Aunt and Mom are sitting on the couch. Aunt has her phone out. She’s trying to prepare her Unni for what she’s about to see. Will she really be okay? Mom is sure that she will be, but Aunt isn’t so sure. Halmeoni asks what’s going on and Aunt shows her the picture, with a conspiratorial grin. Halmeoni starts laughing and clapping and Aunt compliments herself on her camera work. Mom grabs the phone, looks at the picture and cringes. She gets a headache from the picture of Jang Mi and Ki Tae going at it.
Ki Tae is lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He’s thinking about the kiss. So we get to watch it again. Hee! Plus the uncomfortable awkward glancing at each other after the kiss finishes. Ki Tae starts to try to say something when Jang Mi mutters for him to be quiet. Aunt is watching. Then Ki Tae spots Aunt. Ki Tae wipes the kiss off his lips as he quietly tells Jang Mi that he thought she was kicking him away. She replies that it was because he really didn't look okay. Oh, and in light of what I was saying with my comments last episode, that gets me even more, how much she cares.
Back in the present, Ki Tae blinks and then sits up in bed. Split screen with Jang Mi sitting up, equally distressed. They fan themselves because it’s so hot. They both get up out of bed. Ki Tae goes to the refrigerator and chugs some water. Jang Mi grabs and chugs a beer. Yeo Reum is cleaning a sink at work. Se Ah is drowning her sorrows at a bar. She drinks. Back to Ki Tae drinking ‘One Water.’ Jang Mi drinking. Yeo Reum stops scrubbing and sighs. Se Ah drinks. Ki Tae finishes his water. Jang Mi finishes her beer and mutters to herself that she must be crazy.
Drive in movie. Some sort of action movie. Lots of couples making out in their cars. Arg! It’s Dad and Mistress, holding hands as they watch the movie. I want to vomit. Mistress sighs and says that that is love. She says that just because it's a different way doesn't mean it isn't love. Of course she would say that. I *really* don’t like her. Mistress looks at Dad and asks if “that person” is still putting her neck out for Ki Tae’s marriage. Wow, she refers to Mom as that person. She isn’t even under the illusion that Dad is going to leave his wife. She’s fine with just sleeping with him regardless. I am speechless as to what type of trollop she is. Dad sighs and pulls his hand out of Trollop’s. Trollop smiles and says that marriage is just one out of many different ways that someone can express love. Right, Dad? He smiles at Trollop and nods, but as she takes his arm again, happily, he doesn’t look so at ease.
Mom is home working on food in the kitchen. Dad approaches and asks Mom why she doesn’t hire someone, since she’s gotten older. Without looking up, Mom asks if he needs something. So, Dad’s feeling a little guilty. As he should. He comes up with something… a glass of water. She gets the glass and goes back to work. He asks if there’s really hope for Se Ah’s relationship with Ki Tae. Mom points out that Dad liked Jang Mi. Awkwardly, he says ‘no,’ and gulps down some of the water. He replies that his boss is good friends with Se Ah’s dad. Mom says she understand what he’s saying. The villain's role is always her part. He finishes off the water and leaves. Mom picks up the phone and calls Se Ah.
Bon Café. The chef has just gotten in a shipment of truffles. Really expensive, five million won truffles. Yeo Reum is shocked by them and Chef tells him to keep his paws off! Chef puts them away when he thinks Yeo Reum isn’t looking.
Aunt has staked out Bon Café. Jang Mi arrives on her bike. She spots Aunt, who tries to pretend not to be there. Plastering on a smile, Jang Mi mutters that Aunt is driving her crazy! Ki Tae just happens to drive up. Jang Mi acts so excited to see him and like she was expecting his arrival. Aunt is surprised. Jang Mi grabs Ki Tae’s arm as he exits the car and fawns all over him. He is completely awkward and uncomfortable. I wonder what Ki Tae’s thinking about… That kiss perhaps? His burgeoning feelings of love? Heh.
Jang Mi gushes over Ki Tae, asking if he’s eaten breakfast. He snaps at her, asking why this girl is like this. I really like that suit he’s wearing today! She drags him up to Bon Café. Once they’re inside, Ki Tae is really uncomfortable – that anyone he knows might actually see them like that – so he shoves her off, telling her to get away from him. Which is ironic since he normally wants people to see them like that. She ignores him and makes him sit by the windows (where Aunt can see them). Ki Tae clears his throat and looks in her direction. All he can focus on is her lips. He gulps loudly. He so totally likes her! Eee!
Jang Mi says they need to straighten out what happened yesterday. That snaps Ki Tae out of staring at her lips. He awkwardly tries to look relaxed as he crosses his legs. He says that he’ll straighten it out for her. And then he proceeds to look really flustered. Instead of the smooth way he normally talks, it sounds like he’s grasping at things as he says that the reason he chose her was because he thought that they would never have useless things like feelings form for each other. He looks over at her and is distracted by her lips again. He shakes his head slightly and looks away, saying that the reason why they are doing is for one reason… He has to struggle with his brain to remember the reason. So that he could be by himself.
Ki Tae’s still not looking at Jang Mi as he says that he was hoping she wouldn't approach him if he didn’t need her and he also wanted to tell her to refrain from touching him uncomfortably. Jang Mi’s a little insulted at that implication. She says that she didn’t do it for her. It was all because of him, to help him! She slaps his hand as she says it. She declares that what happened just a moment ago was because Aunt was watching outside. Ki Tae mutters, “oh,” and grabs the water in front of him to chug it. Unfortunately, it’s pretty much empty.
Jang Mi sighs and mutters that she’s going crazy. Because of this type of guy, her precious lips... She stops and touches her lips like the memory is painful. Ki Tae’s face is killing me. Like a little boy looking at her, asking if it was really that terrible. She whimpers that it happened in front of Yeo Reum, too. Yeo Reum walks up to the table and answers that he knows. It was a bit too much. He tells Ki Tae that Jang Mi kisses anyone anywhere. Jang Mi can’t believe that he thinks that, but Ki Tae protests that this is what he’s saying! And I shake my head at him. Smooth Ki Tae comes out and says that it was way too unnecessary. She was probably just carried away by her feelings and– Cat snarl as Jang Mi yells ‘hey!’ at him.
Jang Mi starts to try to explain to Yeo Reum but he says that he knows. He understands what type of person Jang Mi is. Like a fool she likes anyone, gets carried away, and can't even throw them away. She's someone that ends up kissing a man who doesn't mean anything to her and isn't fun, like a moron. Ki Tae didn’t like how Yeo Reum described him, but he stops when Yeo Reum, smiling and looking at Jang Mi, declares that he likes moronic Jang Mi. Jang Mi can’t believe that she hasn’t blown it and Ki Tae doesn’t like how she’s looking at Yeo Reum. Yeo Reum goes on like he said nothing special to tell them that today begins a month-long truffle festival at Bon Café, with a special menu prepared with truffles by the chef, so they should try it. Then he walks off, like he's just told them the specials and is letting them decide what they want to order.
Jang Mi asks Ki Tae if that was a confession by Yeo Reum. He answers, “no,” like she’s stupid that she didn’t get that. Jang Mi ignores him and breaks out into a big grin as she declares that it was a confession. Ki Tae asks if a guy would call a girl a moron in a confession. Jang Mi snarls in Ki Tae’s direction for being a party-pooper.
Chirp from Jang Mi’s phone. It’s Yeo Reum. He tells her to come back at night again. She breaks out in a big smile. Ki Tae tries to look at her phone, but she snatches it out of his view. She sweetly bids Ki Tae goodbye. He looks like he’s trying to think of something to make her stay, but can’t. She stops and quickly waves at Yeo Reum before she leaves the café. Ki Tae looks over at Yeo Reum, who has his phone out – so it’s obvious who the text came from, if her grin wasn’t a give away – and Ki Tae glares at this guy.
HDM is driving with Hoon Dong looking at the ingredient costs at the café. It's not even a high dining restaurant but he uses the best quality truffles? Hoon Dong mutters that Chef is a bit greedy when it comes to his cooking. HDM asks if it’s not really because of rat-like bastards lurking in his kitchen.
Jang Mi arriving at night and Yeo Reum letting her in. They’re so cute. In the kitchen, Jang Mi declares that she feels like she’s doing something bad. Yeo Reum replies that he’s not bad, just thrilling. Plus, it feels like they’re having some secret tryst. It’s fun. Jang Mi sighs and says that right now it’s going to be hard to meet up. If his family finds out that it was fake then Ki Tae will have to get married to someone he doesn't even like. Yeo Reum smiles as he says that he doesn't really care though. She asks him if he didn’t have them meet at night because of Ki Tae and he says that he wanted to make something good for her, that’s why he told her to come at night.
Voila. The world's one and only egg custard. Jang Mi likes the look of it, but he tells her to wait. He grabs some truffle shavings. She tries it and says that the smell is weird! But she says that it's good! Yeo Reum passes her the rest of the truffles to smell.
Chef arrives at the café, intent on pilfering some of the truffles for himself. Jang Mi and Yeo Reum hurry to hide, but Jang Mi ends up dropping the truffles and stepping on them, so they end up looking like poop. Chef’s telling his friend that his boss doesn't have time to care about where the truffles go. Chef spots them and screams in horror.
The next day, Chef presents the evidence to Hoon Dong with Yeo Reum there. Hoon Dong sighs and says that he never once thought of him as his employee, but always considered him as one of his people. Someone that he trusts 100%. His person. And Yeo Reum’s response is to step on his trust like dog poop? Hoon Dong throws one of the truffles at Yeo Reum, who apologizes. Chef chimes in with the cost. Hoon Dong has his head in his hands as he says that he kept wondering who it was that entered the kitchen secretly. He supposes that the bastard was Yeo Reum. Chef looks a little bit guilty there, but Hoon Dong isn’t looking at Chef.
Hoon Dong tells Yeo Reum to tell the truth. He’s been pilfering the food ingredients, right? Chef swallows nervously. Yeo Reum denies that one, pilfering ingredients. Chef yells at Yeo Reum; how can he say it’s not him! Chef declares that in order to seduce a girl, he used the kitchen however he wanted! Yeo Reum declares that it's true that he does cook secretly. He’ll honestly admit to what he did. But he only used left over ingredients or the ones that were past their expiration dates. He mutters that he used the truffles because he was curious... Then he adds that besides those he didn't touch anything else!
Hoon Dong sighs and says that it’s sad. He really didn't want to look at this. He holds up a flash drive. CCTV footage. Chef really doesn’t like the sound of that. He looks really nervous now. Hoon Dong tells Yeo Reum that if he did something wrong, he should say it now. He'll forgive Yeo Reum. Yeo Reum declares that he’ll take responsibility for his wrongs. He bows and leaves for the kitchen. Chef is still there as Hoon Dong mutters about kids nowadays and how brazen they are! Chef asks why Hoon Dong doesn’t just fire Yeo Reum. Hoon Dong looks at him and asks why Chef was in the café that late. Oops. Chef blinks and declares that he left something… his cell phone… and then he pretends to have left something on the stove so he can hurry out of there.
Back in the kitchen, Yeo Reum is there waiting, which startles Chef. Yeo Reum asks about Chef’s line about forgetting his cell phone. Chef repeats the lie. Yeo Reum points out that when he came in there, he was talking on the phone. How could he talk on the phone without his cell phone? Chef gets defensive and Yeo Reum smiles. Yeo Reum starts to leave and Chef demands to know where he’s going. Yeo Reum answers that he’s going to get the 5 million won.
Hyun Hee has just told Jang Mi that she’s going to leave. She thought about it a lot but she thinks it's best. Even if Jang Mi and Oppa did break up, she once thought of Oppa as a man she was going to marry. How could Hyun Hee continue to face Jang Mi? I’m starting to feel nauseated. Because she’s so sincere and not manipulative. Yeah, that’s what it is… Jang Mi protests that she’s fine! Hyun Hee says that when she sees Jang Mi, she thinks of Oppa. Jang Mi can’t believe that Hyun Hee was sincere in liking Hoon Dong. Hyun Hee’s response is to apologize. And I roll my eyes. Yes, she was sincerely after his money. Hyun Hee starts to cry and Jang Mi wonders what she can do.
Hoon Dong is watching the CCTV footage and sees that the girl Yeo Reum was cooking for was Jang Mi. He’s not happy. And right then Jang Mi walks up. She’s there to plead Hyun Hee’s case. As she pleads, Hoon Dong is just looking at her with a sarcastic look on his face. Jang Mi asks him to please go meet with her, since Hyun Hee is right outside. Trying not to sound bitter, Hoon Dong asks if Jang Mi is okay with that, with him and Hyun Hee seeing each other. Jang Mi tells him to meet her with a sincere heart and not to hurt Hyun Hee like he did with her.
Hoon Dong asks how Jang Mi could do this to him. Jang Mi tells him he should just accept that they are over. He twists his laptop around to show the CCTV footage. He says that she had to go be lovey-dovey in *his* restaurant behind his back with Yeo Reum. That must have been really fun. He sounds like he thinks it was going on before they broke up. Really? Jang Mi apologizes for how it happened. She notices that Yeo Reum isn’t there and worries that Hoon Dong fired him. Hoon Dong can’t believe she’s doing that! Jang Mi protests that Yeo Reum did nothing wrong! It was because she had a situation...
Hoon Dong marvels at how amazing Jang Mi is. During the day, she talks about marrying a Plastic Surgeon who happens to be his closet friend. At night, she enjoys time with a younger flower boy who happens to be is part-timer. On top of that it happens to be in his restaurant where they hide and secretly… He almost can’t get the last word – date – out. Jang Mi apologizes and says that what he sees isn't everything. She starts to try to explain but Hoon Dong tells her not to, or his heart will just get hurt. He gets up and goes outside. Jang Mi follows him.
Hoon Dong spots Hyun Hee, who looks so meek as she stands there. Hoon Dong walks up to her and apologizes for messing with her when he had someone else in his heart. He declares that he’s trash. And we all know that he’s really directing this at Jang Mi. Jang Mi says his name to try to get him to stop. He doesn’t he declares that having two girls in one heart is a terrible thing to do. And, two-timing. Even if he were to die and come back alive, he can't comfortably two time with someone who is friends with Jang Mi. He apologizes, bows and walks off. Hyun Hee, of course, tells Jang Mi that she hates her (for ruining things)!
Hoon Dong and Ki Tae are out at a bar. Hoon Dong’s just told Ki Tae what he’s discovered and Ki Tae has declares that he doesn't care at all! Hoon Dong can’t believe that. Ki Tae says that there's no point in caring about a guy like Han Yeo Reum. Even if they date, at the most, it'll only last for about two months. So why bother?
Hoon Dong looks at Ki Tae like he’s speaking a foreign language. He shifts on his stool and says that Ki Tae really like Jang Mi, right? Ki Tae chokes on his drink. Because the answer is yes. Hoon Dong declares that it's heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking. Ki Tae continues to act like he could care less. Hoon Dong says that he’s known Ki Tae a long time and the boy is acting that cool and unaffected because he wants to keep Jang Mi next to him. Ki Tae replies that he’s not acting cool. He is cool. Hoon Dong doesn’t believe him. He knows that Ki Tae is internally fussing about Yeo Reum. Ki Tae strongly declares that he really doesn't care!
Hoon Dong replies that Mom really cares. She called him earlier and asked a lot of questions about Yeo Reum so he was going to show Mom what those two were exactly doing on the CCTV footage. Freaked out Ki Tae declares that Hoon Dong can’t! Hoon Dong glares at Ki Tae like he’s crazy, smiles and says that he was going to do it but he didn't. Ki Tae starts massaging Hoon Dong’s shoulders as he begs Hoon Dong to keep his mouth shut around Mom. Hoon Dong takes that to mean that Ki Tae really likes Jang Mi. Instead of answering, Ki Tae drinks several glasses of his wine.
Jang Mi leaves work. Yeo Reum is waiting for her. She’s worried but he assures her that he didn’t get fired. He’s got a bag and a guitar with him. He says that he’s been kicked to the streets instead. He had to use all of his rent and deposit money to pay back the truffles. Jang Mi feels bad. Yeo Reum asks if he can crash at her house.
Ki Tae is now home, playing a video game. He thinks about kissing Jang Mi again and hears Hoon Dong say, “Ah… You like Joo Jang Mi that much?” He shakes his head and tells himself, “No... no… Never.” He tries to get back to his game but he’s thinking of kissing her again. He loses his game and drops the controller to the floor. He looks distraught as Hoon Dong points out how he really likes Jang Mi. Because it’s true now! He puts his face in his hands and flops back on the couch. He doesn’t even react when the keypad for the door goes off.
Jang Mi enters. He just stares at her smiling at him. She says she has a favor and yells for Yeo Reum to come in. Yeo Reum enters, drops his stuff, bows deeply and calls out, “Hello, hyungnim!” That shakes Ki Tae out of his reverie. Jang Mi asks him to let Yeo Reum sleep there. Yeo Reum comes in and is amazed at how nice Ki Tae’s place is. Ki Tae is practically livid at he stares at Jang Mi. Another person in his sanctuary! Where he’s supposed to be alone! Hee. Yeo Reum is nicely smiling.
Next thing we see is the suitcase, the guitar, then Yeo Reum and then Jang Mi getting thrown out into the hall. All he has to do is change the keypad sequence, then she couldn’t come in. But since he really doesn't want that, he hasn't done it. She yells and Ki Tae and tells him to think about everything she’s done for him! He asks her what she’s done. Bothered him? Annoyed him? Or the pissing him off? She replies it’s the helping him with his fake marriage. Jang Mi declares that she wasted her precious lips, too! Mention of her lips gets a weird look out of Ki Tae and we know what he’s thinking.
Ki Tae swallows and clears his throat. He points out that the whole purpose of the fake marriage was so that he can live alone! Ki Tae twitches and goes back inside his apartment. Jang Mi can’t believe what a jerk he’s being. Yeo Reum picks up his stuff tells her that he told her that Ki Tae wouldn’t do it. Even a needle's tip wouldn't go through Ki Tae. Interesting image to say that Ki Tae is cold-blooded.
Ki Tae walks into his apartment, rubbing his chest. Oh, the stress! He’s still mad. The phone rings and it’s Se Ah. He answers the call with a “what?” He is not happy with her at all. She’s driving in her car. She sweetly remarks on how he’s still mad, hunh? Like he wouldn't be. He’s home, right? She’s going to drop by for a bit. He tells her not to come. He wants to be alone. Se Ah replies that it's good that he’s alone. Then she says to Mom that Ki Tae says that he’s alone. Mom is in the car, wearing a small smile. They are so alike. Uck! Ki Tae heard that. Se Ah says that Mom made cucumber kimchi to give to him, but she hesitated bringing it because she was worried that it might bother him if Jang Mi was there. Se Ah tells him that she didn’t want Mom’s care to go to waste, so she brought Mom with her. Of course, that's the reason. Ki Tae glares as he hangs up the phone. Then he remembers that Jang Mi and Yeo Reum are downstairs.
Jang Mi is stewing over where Yeo Reum is going to go. Yeo Reum says that he’ll go to a jjimjilbang. The subs translate it as sauna, but Yeo Reum definitely said jjimjilbang. Jang Mi feels terrible for him. Jang Mi says that she’ll raise the money for him. He tells her not to; if he accepts that money, he’s not cool. She moans that it’s because of her. Yeo Reum replies that it’s because of him that Ki Tae hyung is making it difficult for her. Anyways, Se Ah found out about the secret was because of him, so they can call it even.
Ki Tae appears and asks why they’re still there! Yeo Reum says that they’re just about to leave but Ki Tae grabs his stuff and rushes off around the corner with it. Jang Mi and Yeo Reum run after him, but Ki Tae has dropped it. He tells Jang Mi quickly that Mom is coming! Jang Mi screams for Yeo Reum to go! They barely get Yeo Reum out of sight when Se Ah and Mom arrive. They stand there, arm around each other, smiling. Ki Tae even gives Jang Mi a little head kiss. Jang Mi happy greets Mom, who is not happy to see her. Neither is Se Ah. But I am smiling. They do look really cute together. And I bet that Ki Tae was never this type of affectionate with Se Ah.
Se Ah and Mom get out of the car. Se Ah asks Ki Tae about not being alone. Ki Tae taps Jang Mi’s head with his forehead as he says that he meant that he didn't want to be disturbed. She nudges him, like she’s embarrassed. Mom is staring straight ahead. Se Ah thanks them for coming out together. Ki Tae replies that he came to see them off. Mom says that he’s not supposed to do that to someone who came to see him. Ki Tae responds by telling Mom that he knows exactly what she was planning, but bringing Se Ah over. Se Ah replies that if Mom had intentions, it would be to make sure her son is living well and eating well. She holds out the cucumber kimchi. Ki Tae tells them to take it back. Since it'll just be thrown away without being eaten.
Se Ah says Ki Tae’s name in admonishment. Jang Mi glares at Ki Tae for being rude to Mom and declares that it would be so wasteful, why throw it away? She takes the kimchi from Se Ah. She tells Mom not to worry. She will clean everything off and eat it all. Ki Tae is not looking at his mother at all. Jang Mi tells Mom that if she was going to bring side dishes Mom could have told her. Why did Mom come with Se Ah, anyway? Mom says that she’s been friends with Se Ah for some time. Jang Mi asks if it’s not because Mom hates her? Mom’s against her, right? Se Ah’s a little shocked at how blunt Jang Mi’s being.
Jang Mi sighs and declares that if Mom keeps going against her like this, their Ki Tae may have to live alone forever. Mom laughs, astonished. Ki Tae looks at Jang Mi a little surprised, too. Mom asks if Jang Mi just dared to threaten her. Jang Mi sweetly replies that she’s just worried. The Gong family line might end. Ki Tae’s really surprised that Jang Mi just said that. And I am rolling. Mom replies that Jang Mi shouldn’t worry. She’s not against Jang Mi; it's a misconception. Jang Mi happily laughs and declares that that's a relief!
Jang Mi leans in and puts her hand on Mom’s arm as she declares that she want them to be closer. Mom shoves her hand off. Jang Mi says that she wants them to go shopping, eat good food and leave the manner-less Ki Tae out. The girls should have a date sometime! Ki Tae hisses at her to stop. She nudges him back. Mom tells Se Ah that they should go. A smiling Jang Mi wishes Mother-in-law goodbye. She waves at Mom and Se Ah who is still standing there, telling Se Ah to go ahead and go. Se Ah’s not smiling as she gets into the car.
As they drive off, Jang Mi tells Ki Tae that she’ll make sure he’ll live alone for the rest of his life but he just has to live with Yeo Reum for a few days. Yeo Reum walks up as Jang Mi points out what Mom might think if she saw Yeo Reum and her walking down the street together. Yeo Reum puts his arm around Jang Mi’s shoulder, which Ki Tae notices and doesn’t like. Jang Mi reminds Ki Tae that Mom's been keeping an eye on her and Yeo Reum. How is Ki Tae going to explain that to Mom? Ki Tae sighs.
Back in the apartment. Yeo Reum’s exploring. I’m reminded of Jang Mi’s first time, the way he’s wandering around picking up things and Ki Tae’s freaking out over his stuff getting touched. Ki Tae’s running along behind Yeo Reum telling him that everything is forbidden: touching anything… the bathroom… delivery food… Searching is forbidden. Eating is forbidden! And don't make the house smell. Ki Tae declares that Yeo Reum is allowed in the apartment between 11 PM to 7 AM, 8 hours total. He’s allowed the couch. Jang Mi asks why Ki Tae is being so strict.
Yeo Reum spots the massage chair and settles into it. It’s comfortable so he asks if he can’t just sleep there. Ki Tae tells him to have some sense and yanks him out of the chair. With some difficulty, which cracks me up. Ki Tae blows some air at his bangs. Jang Mi reaches over and pinch-touches Ki Tae’s sleeve with her thumb and index finger. He reacts with a ‘she’s touching me!’ face. He grabs his arm where she touched him, uncomfortable. She softly asks him if he’s okay. He asks her, softly, if she still hasn’t left. She grabs and puts their hands together, telling them to get along nicely. She waves goodbye as they shake their hands free. Ki Tae looks over at Yeo Reum, who smiles a big grin at him. Ki Tae tells him to sleep.
Yeo Reum plops onto the couch with his guitar out. Ki Tae flings his bedroom door open, declaring that the guitar is also forbidden! He cuts off the lights and goes back into his room with a slam. Yeo Reum chuckles and tells him to sleep well, hyung.
Se Ah and Mom are driving. Mom apologizes for what Se Ah just saw. Se Ah says that it’s okay. She’s used to it. When they were in their 20's, whenever Ki Tae dated other girls, she experienced similar situations. Even though they were just friends, girls would be really jealous and wary of her. Because they could tell that you wanted to be more than just friends. Mom understands. Where are all those girls now? Next to Ki Tae, only Se Ah is left. Se Ah replies that it’s because they’re friends.
Mom asks how Se Ah’s father is, since he might still be upset about the breakup. Se Ah assures her that her father still likes Ki Tae. He’s been trying to scout Ki Tae for their hospital. Or that’s what Se Ah says. I wonder. Mom is thankful that her dad doesn’t hold a grudge. Se Ah adds that her Dad wanted to meet Ki Tae again. Se Ah says that she worries that Jang Mi might misunderstand. Ki Tae will probably refuse too, because of Jang Mi. Mom declares that she can help with that problem. So they’re plotting together.
Next morning, Ki Tae has no covers. He wakes up freezing. He reaches over and grabs some. He rolls over and puts his arm around someone. He realizes that it’s a sleeping Yeo Reum. Ki Tae sits bolt upright in bed, asking what’s this! Yeo Reum sits up, eyes closed, and says that it’s him. Ki Tae wants to know why Yeo Reum is sleeping there! Yeo Reum mutters that it was too cold in the morning. Ki Tae screams for Yeo Reum to get out this instant! Yeo Reum smiles and lies back down, muttering, asking why Ki Tae’s getting mad. Ki Tae’s head looks like it’s going to explode. He checks under the covers and Yeo Reum laughs, like he would really not be wearing anything or something.
Ki Tae goes and eats breakfast. Two pieces of white toast with butter. He stifles an angry groan and asks what Yeo Reum’s doing. Pan backward to Yeo Reum sitting across from him, staring at Ki Tae’s toast. Yeo Reum replies that Ki Tae said that eating was prohibited. At least he can feast with his eyes. Ki Tae half-snarls that he told Yeo Reum to get out. Yeo Reum smiles and replies that he thought Ki Tae meant to get out of the bed. Ki Tae asks if Yeo Reum’s doing this on purpose… to make him angry. Yeo Reum asks why he would do that. Ki Tae asks if Yeo Reum really has no other place to go. Doesn’t he have any relatives or friends? Yeo Reum replies that all his friends are girls. He lost contact with his relatives. He never had a dad and his mom ran away. All of which is the truth.
Ki Tae feels really bad for a moment. Then he hisses at Yeo Reum and asks if Yeo Reum thinks he can act pitiful so he can free load. Yeo Reum smiles and laughs saying that Ki Tae didn't fall for it but Jang Mi did. Ki Tae glares at Yeo Reum – for proving what a ladies’ man he is, even though I think Yeo Reum is lying right now about it not being true – puts his coffee mug down with a thud and gets up from the counter. Yeo Reum declares that if Ki Tae isn’t going to eat his egg, he will. He stuffs the egg in his mouth before Ki Tae can say anything. Ki Tae tells him to clean up. Yeo Reum yells after Ki Tae that they should go to work together. He tries to hurry downstairs to catch Ki Tae, but Ki Tae drives off without him.
As Ki Tae drives away, he coughs and mutters that he’s caught a cold because Yeo Reum took the covers. In a consultation, Ki Tae sneezes loudly. He’s coughing more as he decides to go home for the day. He tells his receptionist to cancel his afternoon appointments. Before he goes, he checks about the electrical maintenance happening later that night in the building. Receptionist says that from 8 pm until tomorrow morning, the entrance will be locked and all the phone lines will be out. They’re also going to fixing the electrical generator at the same time. Ki Tae reminds her to take care of the stuff that would need to be refrigerated and then leaves to go home. Receptionist answers the phone and says that he went home for the day.
The woman on the phone was Oma. She makes Appa go to the market for some chicken. Oma makes him some chicken and ginseng stew. When Jang Mi gets home, she’s excited because she loves the stew. But Oma won’t let her have any, because it’s for Ki Tae. Jang Mi protests that she and Ki Tae are on different levels. Oma doesn’t think so. Jang Mi’s surprised that Ki Tae’s sick, but she doesn’t want Oma to take it, so she leaves with it, protesting that it should be hers.
On her way to Ki Tae’s Jang Mi gets a call. It’s Mom, asking for a shopping date. Jang Mi arrives at the store, carrying the pot. But it’s not Mom that’s there, but Aunt. She wants Jang Mi to try on clothes. Jang Mi tries to protest about the soup getting cold but Aunt hisses at her and says that Ki Tae will join them in the evening.
Mom calls Ki Tae and tells him about dinner. Ki Tae doesn’t want to because he’s sick – although he just says that he’s tired. He says that he wants to be alone with Jang Mi. Mom replies that Jang Mi is going to be there too. They’re meeting for Jang Mi. Ki Tae’s a little wary, but Mom says that since Jang Mi seemed upset with her, she was planning on buying them some dinner at a nice restaurant. As Ki Tae hangs up, he wonders what Mom is plotting now.
Ki Tae calls Jang Mi. She begs him to save her, since they’re making her try on a bunch of clothes. She’s worried that Mom really likes me. Ki Tae tells her not to worry, that’s definitely not it. He says that he’s not sure what’s going on, but for now, she should just accept everything that they buy for her. He corrects her, saying to buy everything she wants… the wasteful, mindless bimbo concept. He coughs and she tells him that even when he’s sick he’s still wicked. Aunt pounds on the door, asking what’s taking Jang Mi so long. Ki Tae tells her ‘fighting’ before she hangs up.
Aunt doesn’t like the outfit. Jang Mi tries to like everything that Aunt picks, but Aunt is not satisfied. Lots of climbing up and down stairs, with Jang Mi in different outfits. Aunt settles on something I find really tacky, the worst outfit of the lot. Off to the salon. Multiple beauty concepts with the soup pot being pushed all around the salon. At the end of it all, Aunt and Jang Mi end up back at Ki Tae’s office. Aunt says that Ki Tae and Mom will be picking up Jang Mi there. Aunt even stops Jang Mi from calling Ki Tae to ask where he is. Jang Mi falls asleep. Aunt makes sure Jang Mi is out and then steals Jang Mi’s phone. Aunt heads to the restaurant to meet Mom.
At the restaurant, Mom is shocked that Jang Mi fell asleep. Mom worries about Aunt leaving Jang Mi alone, since Ki Tae might find out. Aunt assures Mom that it will be okay, since she took Jang Mi’s phone. Aunt hands it over to Mom, who sticks it in her purse. Ki Tae, still coughing, arrives at the restaurant, to find Se Ah there, sweetly drinking coffee. He’s not happy to see her and asks why she’s there. Especially since this is supposed to be a meal with Jang Mi and Mom. Se Ah replies that her father will be coming soon and he wants to see Ki Tae. Plus, it seems like Mom wants to see her father. Isn't that convenient.
Ki Tae rolls his eyes and asks Se Ah what she’s trying to do by using their parents. Se Ah says that she also feels uncomfortable involving their parents. How about allowing them to speak to each other, and they slowly leave? He can’t believe her. She adds that if he comes with her, she'll give him a present. She takes out a hotel key and puts it on the table. Ki Tae looks at her. She adds the camera memory card. Se Ah tells him that the parents will be arriving soon. Ki Tae needs to decide quickly if he doesn't want Mom seeing what's on the card. He looks at her, hating her.
Mom arrives and Se Ah quickly hides the key and the card. Mom asks if she’s too late. Se Ah replies that Mom arrived right on time. Mom asks where Se Ah’s father is. Se Ah replies that he’s running a little late because of an urgent surgery. Ki Tae gets it all now. He asks Mom about ordering Aunt to hold on to Jang Mi, didn't she? Mom replies that, just like Jang Mi wanted, she went shopping with the girls and got her hair done. Mom says that Jang Mi’s having a good time, so don't worry too much.
Ki Tae pulls out his phone and calls Jang Mi. Jang Mi’s phone buzzes in Mom’s purse. Noticing, Ki Tae hangs up and calls again. More buzzing. Mom tries to act like nothing’s going on, taking a drink of water. Ki Tae tells Mom that she’s got a phone call. She should answer it. Mom tries to leave, but Ki Tae’s not going to let her get away. Mom tries to asks what Ki Tae’s doing, but he’s not going to play. Why does she have Jang Mi's phone? Mom says that it's a misunderstanding. Ki Tae demands to know where Jang Mi is.
Jang Mi is out. She slowly wakes up at Ki Tae’s office. She looks around for Aunt, but Aunt is gone. She tries calling on her phone, but her phone is gone. It’s 8 pm and the lights go out. Jang Mi can’t see anything. She makes her way to the glass doors, but they won’t open. Jang Mi thinks it’s a joke at first, but when no one answers, she starts to freak out. Jang Mi stumbles back towards the reception desk and accidentally dumps the soup over on herself.
Mom has finally admitted where Jang Mi is. Jang Mi is there at his office alone? He checks his watch. It’s 8:15 pm. He remembers about the power and phones being out and the entrances being locked. He’s not happy, because he knows what being alone in the dark will do to Jang Mi. He can’t believe that Mom would kidnap and imprison her there. Mom tells him not to be so dramatic. She tells him that people are looking. He needs to lower his voice. He yells at her, asking if she even knows embarrassment?!
Se Ah’s surprised at his tone. She tells him not to be angry at Mom. She asked Mom to do it. Se Ah sighs and apologizes *to Mom.* Mom assures Se Ah that it’s okay. It's not her fault. Ki Tae can’t believe them. Se Ah says that she’s really sorry to Jang Mi, too. Mom assures her that it’s okay. Ki Tae yells that he’s not okay! He shocks Mom and Se Ah with the ferocity of it. Ki Tae declares that Jang Mi can't be left alone. Jang Mi can never leave be left alone! He runs out of the restaurant. Se Ah and Mom both are upset by his display, but for different reasons.
Scene from the beginning of the show with Ki Tae desperately driving for his office. He thinks about Jang Mi talking about how she almost died when she was five, what Appa said about it. Jang Mi is at the office, still freaking out, begging someone to help her. She sinks to the floor, terrified.
Ki Tae reaches his office as Yeo Reum is taking out the trash. Yeo Reum tells Ki Tae that Bon Café is closed. Ki Tae checks to see how long the power’s been out. Yeo Reum says about 30 minutes. Ki Tae just runs. Yeo Reum asks what’s wrong. Ki Tae replies that Jang Mi’s locked up in the clinic. Ki Tae gets upstairs, but can’t get the door open. Yeo Reum arrives with a bar and they’re able to pry it open. They frantically start looking for Jang Mi. Ki Tae sees the fallen soup.
Ki Tae ends up in his office, using his phone at a light. He finds Jang Mi hiding under his desk. They look at each other. And then he does what frightened people everywhere do once they find out the person they care about is okay. Ki Tae starts to yell at her, asking if she’s stupid! Why is she there?! Jang Mi meekly replies that Aunt told her to wait there. He yells that if she’s going to be dumb, she should at least have some common sense! What’s with the chicken and ginseng stew?!
Jang Mi starts to cry as she asks him why he’s yelling? Does he know how much she suffered because of him? She starts to sob and Ki Tae can’t stand it. Then Yeo Reum appears and wraps her up in a hug as Ki Tae can do nothing but watch. Jang Mi protests, asking does Ki Tae know how scared she was? Yeo Reum comforts her, telling her that it’s okay. She sobs. And Ki Tae wishes that it was him holding her.
Back at Ki Tae’s apartment, Jang Mi looks at the soup. She’s sad that it’s wasted. She tells Ki Tae that Oma sent it thinking of him. Ki Tae sighs, feeling like a heel. He can’t apologize though. Jang Mi goes to clean up and he looks at her go, feeling bad. Yeo Reum looks at the soup and says that there's a lot left. It should be enough for three people to eat heartily. Ki Tae asks if Yeo Reum’s Jesus? Is he going to create a miracle? Yeo Reum smiles and says he sure can. As soon as Ki Tae allows him to cook. Ki Tae tells him to do whatever he wants.
Yeo Reum gets to work, cooking. Ki Tae pretends to not care and read a book. But it smells really good and Ki Tae can’t help but want some. It looks so good! I want some too. Jang Mi appears and Yeo Reum declares that he made Samgyepasta. Jang Mi can’t believe that he made it with Oma’s Samgyetang (chicken soup)? Ki Tae mutters that pasta is what you make when you can't cook but still want to make yourself look good. Jang Mi eagerly digs in and declares it yummy.
Jang Mi tells Ki Tae that he should try some too. Ki Tae makes himself cough and declares that he doesn’t have an appetite. She shuffles over and holds out a bite. He pretends to be into his book but he eats it and likes it. Yeo Reum isn’t exactly sure how he likes that little exchange. Ki Tae mutters that it’s probably the samgyetang's broth that's good. Yeo Reum chimes in that Ki Tae’s right. It was all thanks to Oma’s cooking. Brownie points, Yeo Reum.
Ki Tae sighs and says that he feels bad towards Oma. He doesn't deserve to receive things like this. Jang Mi tells him that it’s okay. If it weren't for Ki Tae, when would Oma ever get to dream of a doctor son-in-law? They should just say that he let Oma and Appa have a sweet dream, even if it's a very short midsummer night's dream (that last part sounds like Han Yeo Reum). He asks if she called as he brings over the other two bowls of food. Ki Tae gripes more but they ignore him.
Jang Mi proposes they have some wine. Yeo Reum’s all for that. Ki Tae protests that he’s sick! How can they to have a drinking party?! He coughs some more. He yells at them not to touch, but they ignore him. Ki Tae gets to watch Jang Mi and Yeo Reum be all cutesy, which he hates. Yeo Reum feeds Jang Mi pasta. She groans at Ki Tae and makes him eat.
We get a little serenade by Yeo Reum. The man has a really nice tenor. It’s dreamy. Jang Mi smiles at Yeo Reum while Ki Tae watches her. Yeo Reum changes the song to the one that Ki Tae dances to at the male auction. They make fun of his dancing. They beg him to do it and he obliges and the three of them laugh at it all. And Ki Tae’s not alone.
Se Ah is. She’s at a bar, drinking, upset because Ki Tae likes Jang Mi. She can’t help but think of how upset he was over Jang Mi being left alone. Him declaring that she can never be alone! She thinks of three years ago when Ki Tae told her that being alone suits her better. It’s their break up talk three years ago. Ki Tae declares that he likes being alone. Se Ah doesn’t say anything. Ki Tae apologizes and she laughs. She sighs like she’s happy and says that she can breathe now. While preparing for the wedding, her breath felt shorter and shorter each day. She says that this isn't how she usually does things. The truth is that I was miserable. She thanks him for saying it first. He asks if they’re okay and she assures him with a smile that they are. Back in the present, Se Ah sits in the same bar. She asks Ki Tae what she should do. She’s not okay.
Ki Tae coughs and wakes up. He gets up to get some water and finds no one else there. The mess is still there, though. And this is my reaction. Ki Tae whines and says that he is a sick person. He is sick! And they’re making him clean up. He grabs one of the wine glasses and a bowl of pasta to clean but then notices Yeo Reum and Jang Mi asleep on the couch. They heads are propped together. Looking at her sleep, he thinks of several people asking if he's okay. Finally, he says that he is not okay.
Thoughts
What an episode. He finally realized that he likes her!!! I think that from the beginning, he's liked her, but his attraction has grown as he sees her for the genuine person that she is, but also that she can relate to the kind of pain that he's had to deal with in his life. His reactions at this burgeoning realization is really amusing to me. He is so completely overwhelmed by this attraction he’s experiencing.
His reaction to discovering what Mom had done wasn't just an 'angry at meddling Mom' thing. It was a 'freaking out over what's happened to Jang Mi' thing. And I think Se Ah knows that, too, because she went drinking after he tore out of the restaurant to save Jang Mi. Plus, it’s very telling that he’s yelling that Jang Mi can’t be alone but he was fine telling Se Ah that she’s better off alone. That definitely says that Ki Tae’s heart is someplace else.
I do like that even though Se Ah is manipulative and Mom is manipulative, you like them because you kind of get why they’re the way they are. I did call it, as far as where Se Ah is coming from. All of the women are totally making mistakes when it comes to the men in their lives. Jang Mi jumps in too fast. Se Ah settles. Mom puts up with crap she shouldn’t. Hyun Hee just is manipulative... The men aren’t much better. Ki Tae’s afraid of pursuing something real. Hoon Dong just plays with women. Yeo Reum acts like nothing really affects him and Dad is cheating on his wife. Eotteokay!
But back to Ki Tae – his reaction, when he finally found Jang Mi, spoke volumes over his abilities to deal with real love. He didn't quite know what to do, so he yelled at her. He also was really frantic, so it really reminded me of when a child has wandered off and the parents are frantically trying to find it. When they are finally reunited, the parent will often yell at the child, because they're just so overwhelmed by it all.
Yeo Reum's reaction was very different, but I don't think it shows that he cares more. I think it shows that he's different in how he reacted to the situation and that their relationship is in a different place. He's already let Jang Mi in, whereas Ki Tae still hasn't openly done that. Jang Mi knows stuff about Ki Tae, but he's never really confided it and Yeo Reum has confided in her. So, Yeo Reum being able to just hug her, their relationship is there, that he can just give and not have to feel guarded. Ki Tae isn't there yet.
I also think that if Yeo Reum hadn't have been there, eventually Ki Tae would have calmed down enough to try to comfort her, although it wouldn't have been a hug (He's not there yet, to be that vulnerable). His usual comforting is not comforting. But I think that he would have tried, and from the look on his face, I think that he wished he was the one who had hugged her.
Several times, as Ki Tae watched Jang Mi’s relationship with Yeo Reum, there was that yearning on his face, wishing that it was him instead. But I really like how these three are becoming friends. It was really heart-moving, watching them laugh together in Ki Tae’s safe place. Here’s now 2 people that he has let in there, even if it was with a great deal of complaining before hand. But both of them have proven trustworthy. Neither one of them is going to manipulate him or blackmail him, even though they could. And for all his protesting, I really don’t think he wants to be alone, he just is so afraid of being hurt that he thinks he just wants to be alone.
I am loving the fact that Yeo Reum is living with him now, because it’s leading to roommate hijinks. Can’t wait to see what Ki Tae will do, since he’s realized that he’s not okay.
Hi, do you know the song when ki tae and hoon dong at the bar? I think it always appears in bar scene, I heard many times but can't find the title.. Pse help if anyone know..
ReplyDeleteI tried listening to the music playing in the background of the bar, but couldn't make it out, so I don't know the name of it. The music starts playing about halfway through is Hoon Dong's Theme.
