Marriage Not Dating Episode 16 Recap

I am so sad that it’s the end. I love this show and these characters. Groan!

It’s a stormy sky over an outdoor wedding. Jang Mi and Ki Tae stand looking at each other. And immediately, I suspect it’s another fake out. She’s in a beautiful wedding gown and he’s in a tux.

Sad song sings:

♫ We have to break up like this ♫

Jang Mi declares that they should drop it. Ki Tae’s surprised she’s saying that and she says that she really means it.

♫ We can't even speak to each other ♫

He asks if she has no regrets. Nope. He sighs and says that he’ll really drop it. She says to drop it.

♫ But I want to leave our memories here ♫

He nods and tells her, “okay.”

♫ The scent of one another ♫

He turns and walks away. The sounds of his footsteps.

♫ It makes my heart hurt ♫
♫ Goodbye now ♫

Has to be a total fake out. This is supposed to end happily.

[ Final Episode: Nevertheless Getting Married ]

Run. It’s busy. People are devouring the kimchi pancakes. They rejoice over Mom being the kimchi supplier. Ki Tae arrives, wearing a very serious face. He’s still wearing the suit that he wore to see Oma, so he’s probably just come from there. Jang Mi sees him, beaming. She hurries over to him, bursting with excitement over them ordering the kimchi pancakes. He just sadly looks at her.

Jang Mi tells him to stop staring at her like that. He starts, saying that she shouldn’t be too shocked. She nods okay. We don’t hear anything that Ki Tae says, just see him say it and see Jang Mi’s reaction. Jang Mi’s voiceover says that life is full of unexpected surprises. A tear falls from Jang Mi, then another. Voice over says that the worst comes to you with the best.

Jang Mi goes home and ask Oma why she didn’t say anything. Oma shoots back, asking why Jang Mi didn’t say anything. Jang Mi looks at Ki Tae, waiting in the living room, and says that she was going to tell Oma after they were sure about each other. Oma doesn’t like that answer. She says that they’re together 24/7 without being sure?! Is this another joke? Jang Mi tells Oma not to change the subject. Oma sighs and says that it’s nothing big. Just a simple operation happening day after tomorrow.

Jang Mi asks if Appa knows. Oma orders her not to tell Appa. Jang Mi protests that Appa should know. He'll drop the divorce. Oma says that’s why she didn’t tell him. He'll act like he's sympathetic or responsible and she doesn’t want to get involved with him again. Jang Mi starts to argue with Oma about this.

Out in the living room, Ki Tae notices the postcard that Oma has stuffed in a book. He reads it and then stuffs it in his jacket as Oma tells Jang Mi to get out. Oma yells at Ki Tae for telling on her. Oma tells Ki Tae not to worry about her. One prank is enough. Actually even if it's not a prank, she won't accept him. She’s dead against their marriage. Oma shoves them out of the house.

Immediately Jang Mi tries to Appa but his phone is off. Ki Tae says that they’ll go get him. Jang Mi replies that they don't know where Appa is. But Ki Tae does know because of the letter he pilfered. Jang Mi says that it’s embarrassing. Ki Tae asks why it’s embarrassing. Jang Mi mentions the first letter: Fool, idiot, dog poop… Appa wrote that crap. Ki Tae says that Appa didn’t. He declares that it’s the most romantic love letter he’s ever seen. Jang Mi wants to see now, but Ki Tae stuffs it back in his breast pocket.

They’re driving and not saying anything. Ki Tae turns on the radio. Silently Jang Mi turns it off. He rolls down Jang Mi’s window and breathes in the fresh air. Why doesn’t he roll down his own window? Jang Mi rolls it back up. He asks about stopping to get a bite to eat. She doesn’t want to. He suggests coffee. No. Potty break? She protests that it’s a picnic. Ki Tae pulls over at the rest area anyway. Big spread of food. Jang Mi says that she’s not hungry. Ki Tae tries to convince her to eat. She asks how he can at a time like this. He says that he needs to eat up to energize himself. That way he can accept her with a smile when she takes it out on him. I laugh because he knows her so well. He happily chews.

Jang Mi mumbles that he should hurry up and eat so they can leave. He tells her to help out, so Jang Mi takes a piece of sushi. She asks why Ki Tae went to see Oma. He says that he was jealous of her getting Mom's attention. We know that it’s because he finally made peace with his own mother. He says that he wanted attention too. She thanks him because now Oma won’t be going to get the surgery alone. He tells her to eat. She needs the energy to find Appa and take care of Oma.

Driving again. Ki Tae turns the radio on. She doesn’t do anything.

♫ For a long time I only cried. ♫

He rolls down the windows and she feels the wind on her face.

♫ I'm still longing for you.♫

He reaches over and takes her hand.

♫ It was so hard back then ♫
♫ Comforting me while looking at me. ♫

She looks at him. He smiles at her and she holds the hand with her other one.

♫ That feeling that feeling. ♫
♫ For a long time I was lost. ♫

Jang Mi and Ki Tae are wandering around a lake, looking for Appa.

♫ You opened my eyes but I only saw your back. ♫
♫ Is this maybe a dream? ♫
♫ Is the me who only sees you still living? ♫
♫ I just want you to love me. ♫
♫ Just love me. ♫
♫ Tell me that you love me. ♫
♫ If you are like me ♫
♫ Praying, praying, praying again ♫

Jang Mi stops and Ki Tae just waits.

♫ Though I can't have you ♫
♫ And even though I know this ♫
♫ I'm still searching for you like a fool. ♫

He sneaks up behind her and pokes her to startle her. He laughs. He notices that Jang Mi looks pale. She says that it’s indigestion and then goes to throw up. He apologizes for making her eat. They go sit on a bench by the lake. He asks if she wants to go to the hospital or the pharmacy? She doesn’t say anything. He is being so sweet. I want one! He asks if he can get her some water. He asks if they should get married. She snaps at him to stop and then realizes what he said. He smiles at her, puts his arm around her and says they should get married.

Jang Mi blinks at him and shoves his arm off. She tells Ki Tae that he shouldn’t just say that, trying to cheer her up. He sighs and starts to loosen his collar button. He asks if she thinks that he’d put his life on the line just to cheer Jang Mi up? She wonders if it’s because of Oma. She says they shouldn’t do it for that. They need to be sure first. He says that he’s sure now. They look at each other. She tells him to stop, this isn't the time to discuss that. He asks why not now. She says that they’re talking about a wedding here. She doesn’t know about him, but it's an important moment for her. A once in a lifetime memory.

Ki Tae just sits there and waits. Jang Mi shakes her head and says for him to take it back. Now's not the time. He asks what’s wrong with right then? Great view, great weather. They’re alone there. Jang Mi protest that Oma is having surgery. They don't know where Dad is or if he'll even come with them... if Oma will accept Appa. Why would she want to think about her wedding now? Ki Tae says that they'll make up. He asks if she wants to make a bet? If Oma and Appa make up, they're getting married.

Jang Mi says that she won't be able to get married on top of her parents splitting up. Ki Tae says that she never knows. If the worst marriage, as far as she knows, works out, then they should trust in marriage too. Right? She asks what’s made him so confident. She asks if it’s the postcards. He shakes his head that it isn’t. Jang Mi doesn’t believe him and pulls the postcards out to read them Ki Tae grabs it out of her hands and won’t give it back. As they’re struggling over it, they drop it. A man walking by says he knows whose letter it is. Guy says that Appa’s gone back to Seoul for the last time to close his restaurant. They quickly run back to the car.

Appa is sitting in the restaurant, drinking. Jang Mi takes the liquor out of his hand. Appa is drunk. It takes a second for him to realize that Ki Tae is Ki Tae. He, of course, is angry. Ki Tae apologizes and says that he’s seeing Jang Mi. Appa asks what kind of crap they're saying! Are they really getting married or something? Jang Mi protests that it’s not the issue now. Appa yells that they’re not answering so it must be another joke. Appa declares that he needed someone to take it out on! He's glad Ki Tae’s there because he’s going to kill Ki Tae today.

Appa grabs Ki Tae by the jacket and shoves him into a wall. Ki Tae protests that he needs to tell Appa something. Appa screams at Ki Tae, asking why Ki Tae keeps hanging around if he's not going to marry Jang Mi! Jang Mi protests that she’s the one that’s not sure yet! Appa yells at Ki Tae that he should be giving Jang Mi confidence! What did he do to make Jang Mi feel so unsure? He calls Ki Tae a jerk.

Jang Mi yells at Appa, asking what Appa’s problem is. Did he give Oma assurances? She didn't even tell Appa she had cancer! Ki Tae looks over at Appa. Appa asks Jang Mi to repeat what she just said. Jang Mi is crying now. She repeats that Oma is ill. She has breast cancer. Appa has to sit. Jang Mi tells Appa to go home and go to the hospital with Oma the next day. Appa declares that he won’t. She didn’t even tell him. She must hate him so much. She can't rely on him at all. He won't be of any help. That witch will get mad and her blood pressure will rise. She needs rest before the surgery. Ki Tae tries to protest but Appa says that he’s nothing to that woman. It's totally over. Jang Mi walks out of Chicken Shack. Ki Tae slowly leaves.

Outside, Ki Tae hugs Jang Mi. He tells Jang Mi to go to Oma and he will stay with Appa. She asks what they’re going to do. She said they can't get married. Ki Tae tells her to just wait. The bet's not over. Jang Mi says that it is, so he should let Jang Mi see the letter. He refuses, saying that he will let her see it when the bet is over. He gives her another big hug.

Oma is packing her bag. Jang Mi arrives and Oma pretends to be asleep, but she answers when Jang Mi says her name. Jang Mi climbs onto the bed and tells Oma that she’ll be Oma’s husband, her life partner. She'll stay with Oma forever. Oma says that it sounds terrible. Jang Mi replies that Oma is dead set against Ki Tae so she’ll just have to mooch off Oma. Oma calls Jang Mi a witch (joking, of course). Jang Mi starts to snuggle with Oma. Jang Mi apologizes for making Oma lonely.

Downstairs, Ki Tae is serving Appa drinks. He’s got the apology bow going. Appa tells him to leave, again. He calls Ki Tae a jerk. If he was coming anyway it could have been sooner. Aw, Appa is so cool. He still like Ki Tae, even though Ki Tae was an idiot. Ki Tae apologizes. Appa sighs and says that Ki Tae doesn’t need to say it. He wanted to be careful. He wanted to make it work this time. Ki Tae thanks Appa for understanding. Appa replies that guys get each other without words. Ki Tae says that it’s annoying. With girls, you need to tell them. Appa calls them fools. He says that actions are harder than words. Ki Tae says that he’s grateful in a way. Actions are hard, but words are easy. He just has to say a few words. Then it's all good with them. Isn’t Appa grateful for that? Appa laughs and stops smiling. He asks if Ki Tae is telling him that he’s playing Jang Mi with his words? Ki Tae’s mouth drops open and he immediately tries to back pedal. No, not at all.

Mom is sitting in the living room. Halmeoni comes out to check on her. Mom asks if Halmeoni’s insomnia is acting up again. Halmeoni declares that she has to get something off her chest to be able to sleep. Mom isn’t sure what Halmeoni is talking about. Halmeoni asks if Mom remembers when she left home with Ki Tae? Mom asks why Halmeoni’s bringing it up. Halmeoni asks if Mom doesn't want to think about it. She tells Mom that Ki Tae said that those times were the happiest moments of his life.

Flashback to Ki Tae stuffing his face as Mom smiles and watches. Mom declares that tt was the laziest days of her life. She didn't cook or clean. She didn't do anything for him. They play together. Halmeoni says that that's why he was so happy. She didn't do anything but stayed with him.

Back in the present, Halmeoni says that she thinks she should let Mom go now. Halmeoni says that Mom can go. If she wants to go, she can. Mom starts to cry, asking what Halmeoni is talking about. Halmeoni says for her to just be Ki Tae’s Mom. Forget about being a perfect daughter-in-law, wife and mom. Just be with Ki Tae as his mom. Crying harder, Mom asks what Halmeoni will do. Aunt emerges, crying too, and says that Halmeoni has her. She’ll be a good daughter. She’ll take care of her mom. They outright start to weep and hold each other. I cry, too. Halmeoni says that Mom suffered so much. She truly appreciates it. The three of them hold each other and cry.

Hospital. Doctor is meeting with Ki Tae and Jang Mi about Oma’s tumor. He doesn’t think it has spread to other areas. They breathe a sigh of relief. The doctor says that a mastectomy is necessary. Ki Tae tells Jang Mi not to worry. He’s made an appointment for a good doctor. He’s such a dork! Se Ah arrives. She asks if Jang Mi is Oma’s guardian. She’s the one doing the reconstruction surgery. Jang Mi is surprised. Se Ah says that they’ll do both surgeries simultaneously. Most patients are shocked about their breast being gone. But Oma should be ok if they do it all at once. Jang Mi cries as she says thank you.

Oma is waiting for her surgery. Everyone else waiting has people with them. Appa appears. She lays down with her back to him and texts him to leave. He clucks at her that he can't read her text anyway. He was so angry he smashed his cell phone. He tells her to look at him. He wants to talk face to face. She’s being stubborn, even after he taps her and asks. Appa sighs and pulls out a pass book. He says that he’s sure that she'll like this more than he will. He puts it in front of her and tells her to open it.

Oma looks in the pass book. The account has 52,800,560 won in it. Oma looks at Appa. He says that she’s looking at him now? She sits up, looking at him and asks what it is. He says that he thought she’d be happy if he made money. He tells her to stay strong during her surgery. She wants to know where he got the money. He says that he sold the restaurant. He got rid of the place she hates so much. Oma says that she’s glad she got sick, since Appa never let her go when she was healthy. He left as soon as she got sick. But he didn’t even know she was sick. He tells her not to talk like that. She’s the one who wanted a divorce. She protests that he did too, but couldn't because of the money.

Appa yells at Oma that he didn't want a divorce! Why can't she frigging understand? Is she stupid? People are looking at them now, but they don’t notice. Appa asks if he has to say it in words? Oma’s voice breaks as she asks how she was supposed to know when he didn’t tell her. He yells that she’s no better! She didn’t tell him that she was sick! She protests that he never even asked. He answers that he was always with her! Was it that hard to open her mouth once to tell him? She says that she is sick. So are all these people, so he should stop yelling! Appa sighs.

The woman in the next bed waves her hand and tells them not to worry about them. Another woman chimes in that she agrees. It's more exciting than a drama. Appa sighs and says that he’ll give Oma the money. She just has to let him stay with him. Oh! That’s so sweet. Oma holds out the passbook and tells him to take it back. She doesn’t like being even more pitiful. The women tell Oma that she should just take the money and tell Appa to go. One of the guys in the ward can’t believe them. How come these women are so disloyal? Another guy agrees. Appa’s a great husband. He wants to care for her. His wife says that if her husband came with money, she’d get right up as if she were never sick.

The ward laughs. Appa says that everyone's telling Oma to take it. She finally relents, to applause. Ki Tae and Jang Mi are outside. Jang Mi cries. They walk down the hall and Jang Mi says that the way they made up was totally "Oma and Appa." He holds her hand and they walk outside. She tells him to let her see the postcards. They say “How are you?” “You doing ok?” She’s shocked. There’s nothing special there. Ki Tae replies that nothing special is really special. Is spending special occasions together like his parents special? Spending everyday life together is so special.

He turns the discussion to the bet. Since he won. Shall he start proposing now? He starts and she yells, “Not again!” He asks about the again. She whines that she looks terrible. Can't he do it at a nice place all dressed up? He sighs and asks if she has to look proper when mentioning marriage? Can't they make it casual like the postcards? She’s still not swayed. He asks what her problem is now. She walks over to sit on a bench. He sits next to her, annoyed.

Jang Mi says that she’s afraid he’s doing this because Oma’s ill. It's tough right now so he’s taking care of her and she really appreciates it. But she doesn’t know if he’s sincere about their marriage or if it's a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing. Ki Tae groans about that dang "assurance." She wants to wait until this commotion is over. Ki Tae protests that it will never end. How does she know what twist awaits them? Though they love each other to death right now, as time passes one of them could be unfaithful. Or they could live as a mute zombie couple. This is not romantic! Although I get what he’s saying. Stop being afraid of the future.

Ki Tae asks her if she still believes in eternal love. She frowns and says that she knows how cruel reality is. Then she clucks at him for being so unromantic for a guy whose proposing. Ki Tae explains that he’s saying that you can't and shouldn't be sure about marriage. But he wants to marry her anyway. Jang Mi looks at him. He says that there's no such thing as eternal love. Nevertheless, he wants to love her forever. Aw! Squee! Jang Mi is starting to cry. She tries to act indifferent as she says, “okay.” She says that you can't trust any man, but she wants to trust him. They start to smile and giggle. Then they hug each other.

She asks him if this is really it. He doesn’t have anything for her? At least a flower or something. Uh-oh noise. Ki Tae says that he gave it to her. The postcards. Proposal gift. She shoves him off her and yells at him that that’s really it?! No ring for her? He rubs his side where she shoves him. He awkwardly shrugs and rubs his nose. She stands up and says that she didn't hear it. He needs to take it back. Ki Tae jumps up, protesting. Jang Mi declares that if he’s going to ask, do it properly. Make it awesome. Ki Tae protests that she was going on and on about true love. He tells her that she’s so vain. She points out how he said they don't have to be sure. He said life is full of twists. Then they stop fighting and start playfully poking each other.

Jang Mi’s voiceover declares that they didn't expect the worst twist of all at their wedding.

Jang Mi whines at a smiling Ki Tae to give her a ring! They start walking.

Jang Mi’s voice over says that they might have become comfortable about life's twists by overcoming this one twist.

Mom brings Halmeoni and Aunt some tea. Her manner seems different, somehow. She says that she thought about what Halmeoni told her. Halmeoni says that she’s go along with whatever decision Mom made. Aunt nods her agreement. And then Dad arrives. He’s over the moon because he’s just been chosen president. No one cheers for him. They are all frowning and won’t look at him. He asks why they aren’t congratulating him. Mom says that he’ll have to congratulate her. Dad quickly declares that, of course, he owes it all to her. He runs over to sit by her. Taking her hand he says, “Thanks so much.” Mom looks at him and says that she’d like something in return. A divorce.

Dad starts to protest. Halmeoni says for him to let Mom go. They’re done discussing it. Mom pulls back her hand and says that she’ll give him freedom. He has to give her the house. Dad starts to protest but Halmeoni declares that Mom deserves that much. Dad starts to protest about what will happen to Halmeoni. Mom says that she'll take care of Halmeoni. That shocks Halmeoni. Mom looks at Halmeoni and Aunt and says that she wants to live with them as a friend and not as a daughter-in-law. Of course, they have to be okay with her interference in their lives. By their faces, you know they’re going to accept. Dad protests that he doesn’t think that it'll be that simple. The house is expensive. The three women start laughing and hugging each other. Dad is left just standing there.

Ki Tae arrives at Bon Café. He tells Hoon Dong that he’s there. Like he’s been summoned. Hoon Dong drops the paper her was holding up, revealing that he’s wearing a mask underneath. So is chef. Hoon Dong declares that he’s going to make Chef Uhm a pretty boy, too. So they can be as successful as Jang Mi. Chef protests that he taught Yeo Reum how to cook and heads back to the kitchen. Hoon Dong just sits there and pats his mask.

Ki Tae sits and says that Hyun Hee makes good money. Hoon Dong should just close Bon Café. Hoon Dong peels off his mask and says that Hyun Hee won't even show him her bank account. He tells Ki Tae to make sure all their finances are transparent before he gets married, or he’ll regret it. Ki Tae says that he doesn't care about Jang Mi’s. Shouldn't Hoon Dong manage his own accounts? Hoon Dong tells him to wait and see how long he doesn't care.

Hoon Dong asks how Oma is doing. The surgery was a success. Luckily it hadn't spread. She's being discharged tomorrow. Hoon Dong asks if Ki Tae got Oma’s approval yet.

Switch to Oma in the hospital. Appa is cutting up an apple for Oma. She holds out the pass book and tells him to take it back as payment for apple cutting. He protests that he gave it to her. The surgery was a success and she'll live for many years to come. She can't ask Jang Mi for money. Appa says that he has a plan: he’s going to open a delivery pizzeria. Oma grumbles over what a big life upgrade it is for her. She tells Appa that she still hates him but she chose him because she didn't want to burden Jang Mi. Sarcastically, he thanks her. Oma says that they’ll use it for Jang Mi’s wedding. Appa says Oma should use it for herself. Plus she’s dead against their marriage. Oma declares that she just hates how that witch treated her.

Mom asks if Oma means her. She’s got a get well basket with her. Mom smiles at Oma. They go outside. Mom apologizes about last time. Oma says that she wasn't in her right mind then. Oma says that she’s going to be much more careful this time. Mom says that she actually decided to be the opposite. She’s going to keep out of it this time. They went through so much to come this far. She doesn't want to give them trouble. She wants their marriage to be theirs alone.

Oma says that they’re a great family. Won't Mom want to interfere? She'll make Jang Mi cook food for family rituals. Mom says that Oma doesn’t have to worry. She won't make her do that. She’s not a member of the Gong family anymore. Oma is surprised and Mom says that she’s getting a divorce. Oma can’t believe it. Mom and Dad looked so affectionate with each other. Mom just smiles. Mom says that she got the house we're living in. Oma is impressed. She asks what Mom’s secret is for getting something so expensive. Mom laughs and says that she thought Oma would badmouth her. Oma says that she should congratulate Mom; she so envious.

Smiling, Mom looks at Oma and asks if she’ll let let the kids get married? Oma nods and says that;s how she made the deal. They start laughing. Jang Mi’s voiceover says that everything went smoothly. They couldn't see any problems coming.

Run. Very pregnant Hyun Hee. Jang Mi walks in to some guy cooking. Yeo Reum introduces Chef Tony. He's going to take Yeo Reum’s place. Jang Mi drags Yeo Reum outside and demands to know why he’s quitting. He says her launch was a success. He should plan his business. She says that it’s his bar and his dream. He developed the menu's recipes. She asks if it’s because of her. He doesn’t answer, so she takes that as a yes. That's why he decided without talking to her. He laughs and says that the world doesn't revolve around her. Staying in one place doesn't suit him. He got a bit bored.

She starts to protest but he tells her that she shouldn’t be sorry. He’s going to charge her a lot of money in compensation for his recipes. He holds out his hand for a shake and tells her to do it… or he’ll give her a big hug. Jang Mi reluctantly takes his hand and shakes it. Jang Mi’s voiceover declares that she had no idea at this point. She didn't know this farewell would be the prelude of the troubles at their wedding. Now I’m starting to get worried. What are they doing?!

Dad is pouring wine. Mom tells him that his sleeve's button is falling off. He says that she’s gone so… Mom cuts him off right there, saying that he shouldn’t expect sympathy. She saw him pull it off outside the door. Mom drinks her wine. Dad says that he’s really regretting not having spent time with her like this. Mom replies that she doesn’t regret the time she spent with him at all. He’s encouraged by that. Mom says that she’s not saying she was happy. She was unhappy but that was her. She did her bestto take responsibility for her choice and live with it. He calls her ‘Yeobo.’ She tells him that he should feel that fulfillment like her, too. He should take responsibility for his love and maintain it. She gets up to leave. Dad grabs her arm to stop her. He protests that he lost his house and his family. What use is love? Didn’t seem to care about them at all when you were out cheating around… Dad protests that it’s absurd that he’s not invited to the wedding. Mom says that it’s what Ki Tae wanted. She starts to walk off but then stops. She tells Dad to come tomorrow.

Switch to Apartment. Ki Tae and Jang Mi are drinking wine and sharing a bubble bath. She says that it’s tomorrow. Ki Tae declares that he’s proud of her, "Ugly Scene" Jang Mi. She’s come so far. She agrees and with none other than Gong Ki Tae. He smiles and sighs. Flashback of the hotel as she says that his first impression was worse. He looked like a fussy wet rat. Ki Tae asks whether he didn't look sexy wet? Grapefruit juice in the face as Jang Mi admits that he was sexy. So she wanted to see him again wet and sexy. Drunk Jang Mi outside the bathroom, pounding on the door. Ki Tae says that she was just crazy. She protests that he was crying over a small nosebleed. Did he know she was paying attention? The outburst at Harabeoji’s ritual. Ki Tae protests asking who would put up with her? He’s such an understanding guy.

Outside the café after Jang Mi’s diarrhea. She says that he must have wanted her so much. He replies that she was so desperate. That gets a ‘Ya!’ Doesn't he have good memories? Jang Mi in the wedding dress. Ki Tae says that honestly, she was so beautiful that day. Jang Mi admits that she wanted him to tell her that. He asks if that’s when she fell for him? She doesn’t quite answer but asks if it was when he fell for her. Flashback of the hug in the bathroom after he was locked in. He says that it was from some point onward.

Jang Mi smiles and says that even then, she never thought they'd end up together like that. Ki Tae sighs and looks at the bathroom. He suggests that after they come back from their honeymoon, they should remodel the bathroom. She wants to know, since they have lots of memories here. Ki Tae tries to smoothly slide over so that he can sit next to her. He says that it’s a bit small for the two of them. She tells him they shouldn’t waste money. He protests that she makes good money. She replies that she needs big money for my business. When he asks, she tells him that he’s the one who wanted to manage separate bank accounts.

Ki Tae thinks of what Hoon Dong said about making all finances transparent before he gets married. He asks if she wants his accountant to tell her. She turns him down, puts her wine down and leans in close to him, saying that the size of the tub is just fine. She starts getting frisky. Ki Tae giggles. Jang Mi’s voiceover declares that they still trusted each other at this point. But…

Back to the beginning, with Jang Mi says they should drop it.
KT: Really?
JM: Really.
KT: No regrets?
JM: Nope.
KT: I'll really drop it.
JM: Drop it.
KT: Ok.

Ki Tae walks down the aisle, unbuttoning his coat. He tells the servers to take away the umbrellas. Server says that it looks like rain. Ki Tae turns around and tells Jang Mi, “See?” The server says it looks like rain! She hikes up her dress and walks over. She protests that the forecast said it wouldn't. The sun will come out soon. They continue to argue. Manager tells Ki Tae he should agree with the bride, that way he won't regret it later. Away go the umbrellas. Ki Tae sighs, annoyed that he didn’t win.

Yeo Reum arrives and compliments Jang Mi on how pretty she looks. Ki Tae mutters, asking if Yeo Reum couldn’t see him? Yeo Reum answers by pulling Ki Tae into a big hug and saying, “Congratulations.” One of the attendants tells Jang Mi that she can go to the waiting room. So she and Yeo Reum head that way. As they walk off, Ki Tae hears Yeo Reum say that ‘they’re’ going to wire the money. He wants to know what money. He decides to spy on them.

Jang Mi’s sitting with Yeo Reum next to her. They’re taking selfies. Yeo Reum looks at his phone and says that it's less than he thought. Jang Mi tells him that it was a generous sum, since it's him. Yeo Reum tells her that she should give him more for all he’s done for her. Ki Tae doesn’t get to hear the rest of the conversation because Mom arrives – looking very beautiful in her hanbok – and makes him go greet guests. Yeo Reum leaves, with Jang Mi wishing him good luck with the song. Is Yeo Reum going to sing?!

Se Ah enters, smiling. She asks how Oma is. Jang Mi says Oma loves the breast Se Ah made for her and actually, Appa likes it even more. Scandalous! They laugh and Jang Mi tells Se Ah tells her to come to the bar; she’ll treat Se Ah big time. Se Ah says that she can't drink for the time being. Her dream is finally coming true. She’s pregnant. Se Ah smiles and Jang Mi is stunned. Jang Mi congratulates her, but wonders who the father is. Hyun Hee and Hoon Dong arrive and interrupts them. Se Ah leaves and Jang Mi tries to look happy.

Appa and Oma and Ki Tae and Mom are greeting guests, but Ki Tae is distracted. He wonders what money Jang Mi gave Yeo Reum. Inside, Jang Mi is distracted, wondering if Ki Tae gave the baby to her? Jang Mi decides that she has to go see the groom. But Aunt and Halmeoni interrupt her. Ki Tae decides the same thing, but he’s intercepted by HDM and then a huggy Hoon Dong. Then his nurses. Hyun Hee asks if Jang Mi needs anything, as she poses with pictures with Halmeoni and Aunt. She tells Hyun Hee to bring her Ki Tae.

Ki Tae is accosted by his Aunts who yell at him for getting mad without Dad there. But Dad’s there. Mom says that she invited him. She tells Ki Tae that he’s still Ki Tae’s Dad. The Aunt start to yell at Mom about the divorce. Such lovely ladies. The Aunts really start yelling. Hyun Hee approaches and says that Jang Mi is looking for him.

They finally find each other. Jang Mi wants to talk and Ki Tae asks ‘Now?’ And the mothers are lighting the candles, with Hoon Dong as the announcer. Jang Mi says that she knows that it's not the time, but she doesn't feel good about it. He wants to know what. Hoon Dong announces that the groom may enter. No Ki Tae. He repeats himself. Jang Mi slowly asks if Ki Tae gave Se Ah a gift. Ki Tae has no idea what she’s talking about. She says that Se Ah’s pregnant. He asks what she’s thinking now. She asks if it was him. He’s flabbergasted. She asks why he’s not answering. He says that it's not even worth his breath to answer that! What does she take him for? Then he asks about the money. She replies that it was for business. She can’t understand why he thinks that’s weird.

Attendant approaches and asks why they’re there. Everyone’s waiting. Walking, Jang Mi says that Ki Tae said they didn't have to be sure and they could have problems. Did he say that with this in mind? She declares that she can't get married feeling like this! He yells at her, asking what on earth it is that she him tell him? She demands to know. Was it him or not? The attendant basically shoves Jang Mi down the aisle. Jang Mi starts down the aisle with Appa. And they are still fighting.

As Jang Mi walks down the aisle, she notices that Ki Tae is not looking at her. He’s actually looking over at his parents. She wonders where he’s looking, because he should be looking at her. The Aunts are still being snots. Halmeoni tells them to shut up. Mom tells them not to make her daughter-in-law do that, since Dad has a girl. She'll do a good job. Ki Tae can hear the whole thing. Jang Mi looks at him and pleads with him to look at her. He finally does, but he’s not happy. Neither one of them are smiling.

It’s the handoff from Appa and Ki Tae offers Jang Mi his arm. She doesn’t take it. Hoon Dong tells her to take the groom’s arm. After a moment, Jang Mi says that before she does, she wants to ask him something. Ki Tae sighs. She asks him if he’s really not hiding anything from her? Ki Tae sighs, frustrated. Murmurs from the crowd. He says, “No.” He tells her to check for herself. Ki Tae turns around and looks at Se Ah, who is sitting with Richard. Called it! He asks why everyone is looking at them. She replies that it must be because he’s too sexy and then they flirt back and forth in English. He kisses her on the cheek and Hoon Dong grimaces.

Ki Tae looks back at Jang Mi, who’s now really embarrassed. He asks her to tell him. What is he hiding? She says that she paid Yeo Reum because he's quitting the bar. Ki Tae glances over at Yeo Reum who gives him a big smile. Probably laughing at both of them because they haven’t changed at all. Ki Tae clears his throat for being an idiot.

The Aunts stand up and start protesting. The bar owner's daughter owns a bar too? This marriage is so messed up! Oma asks what’s wrong with owning a bar?! And it only goes from there… Hyun Hee defends the bar, saying that she and Jang Mi sell really good food and drinks. News for HDM! Hoon Dong defends his wife! Over the microphone. And then the yelling starts across the aisle. Jang Mi and Ki Tae are horrified.

Opera aria starts and then the rain starts to pour. Everyone runs for cover. Jang Mi thinks that indeed life is full of surprises. The worst comes with the best. Everyone runs inside except Ki Tae and Jang Mi, who just watch them go.

♫ I want to cry ♫
♫ I'm so blue ♫
♫ My love is gone ♫
♫ My friend is gone ♫
♫ Everyone's gone you'll know ♫
♫ You'll know ♫

Jang Mi thinks that we can get through life, because sometimes the best comes with the worst. She looks at Ki Tae and starts laughing. After a moment he has to laugh, too. She declares that the wedding is so them. He agrees. After a moment, Ki Tae pulls out the rings. He gives her hers. They are getting totally drenched. Jang Mi gives him his. They smile at each other. Jang Mi thinks that marriage will concern both their families not just them. They’ll experience discomfort due to other family issues.

It ends with them kissing as Jang Mi thinks that nevertheless, she thinks marriage is totally worth it, if she and Ki Tae can spend even a moment together.

Thoughts

What a good ending! I didn’t want it to end. I like how it shows that they’re still going to fight and make up, but that they’re committed to each other. And, yes, family is still going to provide drama, but that’s life.

This was a great drama! You saw the characters grow and change and not just the hero, but the heroine, too. Plus, the side characters were interesting. I like that they made the villains – Mom and Se Ah – sympathetic and decent people. We just saw them at their worst. They had regret for their actions and came around to being friends. And Dad got his. Definitely glad for that one. I’m thankful, too, that Yeo Reum was a stand-up guy who didn’t try an 11th-hour try to win Jang Mi back. In a lot of ways, for all its craziness, this felt real, because he wasn’t noble, he just gave up because he knew she didn’t like him like that. I love also that Halmeoni and Aunt were totally on Mom’s side. Love that. So good!

As far as Han Groo and Yun Woo Jin, I love them. They did a fantastic job with this drama. I hope they get paired up again. I definitely am going to watch other things they are in, because I think they’ve made my favorites list. I just appreciate how much they committed to their roles and lived it. They made these two unlikeable people – a stalker and a cad – completely accessible and likeable. From the beginning, Yun Woo Jin played Ki Tae as a jerk who wasn’t really a jerk, someone who did the right thing and wanted to not be so cold. And Han Groo made clingy, in-denial Jang Mi so lovable. She could have been annoying, but Han Groo made Jang Mi’s compassion for others show up in little things. It was great to see how their rebukes of each other were taken to heart, even if they didn’t act like it at the time, and that by finding each other, they weren’t alone anymore and were able to help heal each other’s hurts.

One of the other things that I love about this show is the music and the sound effects. They enhance the scenes that they are used in. Not every drama has this. Almost paaaaraaadise! But for this show, the music really emphasized the emotion for the scenes for me, in a good way. It's actually the best use of soundtrack that I can think of from recent memory.

Just a good drama.
