Marriage Not Dating Episode 10 Recap

From watching this opening sequence, I think Jang Mi has lost her mind…

Our episode starts mystery music playing. It’s at Mom’s house and it’s raining heavily outside. Everyone is there (but Dad). Jang Mi asks Mom if something – we can’t see it – has special meaning for her. Is it really... important? Mom says that it is. With a hint of exasperation, I might add. I’m getting a little nervous because Jang Mi’s got closet crazy eyes going on. Mom tells Jang Mi that she has to treat it preciously also. Brief stare off and then Jang Mi grabs what looks like a giant egg or vase or something. As the dramatic music plays, Jang Mi lifts it over her head. Halmeoni is shocked. Ki Tae yells Jang Mi’s name. Mom’s mouth is hanging open. Jang Mi smashes. We hear a crunch that sounds like broken glass. Mom can’t believe that Jang Mi did it. Ki Tae is shocked and Jang Mi looks at Mom with satisfied eyes.

[ Episode 10: What You Must Never Let Anyone Find Out Even Until the Last Moment. ]

Oh, good, I thought they were going to leave what happened with this out… Back to Ki Tae kissing Jang Mi by the stuck car. Her eyes close.

Yeo Reum arrives back at the room to wake Hoon Dong up. Hoon Dong mutters something about listening and when Yeo Reum gets more insistent, Hoon Dong plants a huge kiss on him. Hoon Dong releases a grossed-out Yeo Reum and flops back, laughing. Yeo Reum picks Hoon Dong up and dunks him in a water barrel. So Hoon Dong is awake now.

Yeo Reum walks through the woods with Hoon Dong trailing behind him, complaining about having to go find Hyun Hee at the temple. Yeo Reum is not in a good mood. His mood doesn’t get better once he sees Jang Mi and Ki Tae kissing. When they hear Hoon Dong yell at Yeo Reum, Ki Tae and Jang Mi stop kissing and try to look like nothing happened. Yeo Reum tries to pretend he didn’t see anything. Ki Tae is annoyed that Yeo Reum is back so soon.

Yeo Reum asks about the tow truck; it didn't come yet? Jang Mi asks about Hoon Dong who finally appears, complaining. Yeo Reum yells at Hoon Dong again to hurry! Yeo Reum smiles at Jang Mi, his usual smile, but she doesn’t smile back.

At the temple, Hyun Hee is praying, which means going up and down on a mat. Hoon Dong opens the door and pants her name. It takes her a minute to realize it’s him and then she leaves the room, but he follows her. Hoon Dong starts to offer some lame excuse, but Hyun Hee tells him to go. He’s going to grant her wish, but she starts talking. Of course, she does. Can’t manipulate people without the verbal guilt trip.

Hyun Hee says that to her, it’s a present, but that this present might become an irreversible mistake for someone else, because it might become a catastrophe they want to run away from with all of their strength. She says that because of that, let's just keep it quiet. A gift from heaven, to cherish preciously. A tear runs down her cheek. And I actually don’t think she’s trying to manipulate right now. I'm surprised. Hoon Dong is sitting behind her, stunned and now crying. She tells Oppa that she’ll make it so he doesn't receive any harm by it. Hoon Dong wipes his face and wraps his arms around her, hugging her tightly. He cries as he asks why it had to be by a punk like him. Softly, she says “Oppa.” Hoon Dong nods and turns her to face him. He embraces her in big hug. Totally not the response I expected out of Hoon Dong and it makes me like him more.

Hyun Hee smiles – a genuine smile. I’m actually touched by this scene. I didn’t expect that. She tells him that she’s not sure what she’s supposed to do. She was so scared. He tells her that it’s okay and he’ll protect her. And then the scene gets a little weird. Hoon Dong takes off his shirt as sexy music plays. What? He starts to take off Hyun Hee's shirt when, hilariously, the temple monk busts in on them. Heh.

Switch to Hyun Hee and Jang Mi at work. Hyun Hee smiles at the memory – which makes me like her even more – as Jang Mi sighs. Manager yells at both of them for being preoccupied and not focusing on work. They are the face that represent the brand so their personal emotions should never be revealed. Jang Mi starts cleaning and her phone rings. It’s Ki Tae. She doesn’t answer it and tells herself not to think about it. Hyun Hee hears and asks about it, but Jang Mi just says that she’s tired. Jang Mi asks if Hyun Hee having any morning sickness, but she isn’t. She’s quite smiley now.

Hyun Hee tells Jang Mi not to worry, since she’ll be quitting soon. Jang Mi’s surprised, but Hyun Hee says that the wedding plans will be too hectic. Jang Mi’s surprised that they’re moving so fast, but Hyun Hee says that they need to act quickly before she starts showing. Hyun Hee smiles as she says that Oppa going to speak to HDM. Jang Mi’s met HDM, so she’s not smiling.

Hoon Dong is looking through the mail slot, talking to HDM. He’s stuck outside the house in his socks and pyjama bottoms. It’s a tiger on his briefs. Hysterical. Two women walk by and are scandalized by his nakedness. He tries to pretend he’s purposely out there, boxing, as more people walk by. Then he breaks and starts shaking the fence of the house shouting that he’s 33 years old! Then he starts to cry. Because that's what a 33-year-old man does when his mommy has locked him out of the house.

HDM is walking through the mall, on a mission. Uh oh. Hyun Hee greets her, clueless. HDM asks if Hyun Hee is *her*, which Hyun Hee still doesn’t get. Jang Mi arrives and sees and tries to diffuse things, but HDM is obnoxious. How she thinks that this is appropriate, I don't get. Manager arrives and tries to smooth things over, asking if one of her employees made a mistake. HDM replies that a mistake is a wrongdoing done by accident. A wrongdoing done on purpose cannot be called a mistake. Manager is confused. HDM declares that one is a stalker who endangers her son's life and the other brought her son down on purpose.. they were plotting this together! Wow, HDM is crazy.

Manager nicely says that what HDM is upset about is something more personal. HDM cuts her off, asking how she trained them, that all the wenches who work there are after money! She yells at Jang Mi and Hyun Hee that the only the reason they’re working there is because they want to mingle with the upper class, isn't it? Is she wrong? Jang Mi indignantly replies that HDM is completely wrong! Manager bows and starts to apologize. Jang Mi protests that they’ve done nothing wrong. Manager sternly says that they’re disturbing the other guests. A tearful Hyun Hee bows, apologizing, and leaves.

Manager again tries to apologize. Haughty HDM declares that because of Jang Mi, she’s leaving and Manager should train her employees properly! Jang Mi apologizes to Manager, who responds that she told Jang Mi not to get personal affairs involved at work. Jang Mi better make sure this never happens again. Next time, she won’t let Jang Mi off so easily.

Jang Mi finds Hyun Hee crying in the bathroom. Jang Mi can’t believe that not only did HDM make a scene and then they’re expected to apologize for it. Hyun Hee replies that when she’s standing there, she’s just a piece of merchandise and not a human being. Doesn’t Jang Mi ever feel like that? When she stands in the department store for too long, she feels like she’s become a handbag. It’s why she wants to be promoted as soon as possible, so that she’s sold when she’s the newest product, at her highest price, before she’s out of season and transferred to the outlet. Wow, that’s really kind of sad, but explains her scamming for rich Hoon Dong. Jang Mi feels bad but Hyun Hee tells her that it’s okay. It was lighter than she expected. She thought HDM would slap her or something.

HDM puts down the mug she’s drinking out of and declares that she should have slapped Hyun Hee across the face or something. She’s sitting with Mom. Great. Great. Mom tells HDM that she kept it in well. HDM declares that that Jang Mi (rose) or Baek Hap (lily) or whatever her name is, her actions are despicable! This woman is psycho. HDM declares that because stalking Hoon Dong didn't work, Jang Mi immediately went for his friend and she sets her friend up with Hoon Dong! What, is this the animal kingdom? How does that make any logical sense? Oh, wait. She's not supposed to be making sense... because she's psycho! Mom replies that stealing a friend's girl and going for an ex-girlfriend's friend is what their sons were doing. Why is Mom being reasonable? This is weird.

HDM is surprised, too. HDM asks if Mom is going to allow Ki Tae and Baek-, Jang Mi's wedding. Mom leans in and says that HDM needs to proceed with the wedding preparations. HDM is shocked. Mom says that the desires the daughters are hiding, whether the marriage is pure love or something else, are revealed when they’re with their mothers. HDM sees what Mom’s saying.

Hyun Hee is at Bon Café. She can’t believe that HDM agreed to the official meeting of the families. Hoon Dong smiles and tells her that he said she should rely on him. Jang Mi is there and says that it’s a relief! HDM must have had a change of heart when she met Hyun Hee. She congratulates them. Hoon Dong and Hyun Hee are smiling and they actually look good together, and this is the most relaxed I’ve seen Hoon Dong. Hoon Dong wants to know when and Hyun Hee is unsure, since her parents are on a cruise, so they won't be there for a few months.

Hoon Dong asks what Hyun Hee’s parents do and she says that they run a small business, in the fashion industry. Hoon Dong seems really pleased with that answer. Jang Mi is surprised, too. Hyun Hee never mentioned it. Hyun Hee says that she grew up rather independently, so they will probably say she should take care of the marriage on her own since it's her business. Hyun Hee suggests just skipping the family meeting. Hoon Dong can just meet her parents at the wedding. Hoon Dong feels funny about that; he thinks that he should at least greet them. Hyun Hee interrupts and says that their Myungpoomie (Luxury) is hungry. Hoon Dong immediately orders food, which Yeo Reum magically has as the words are coming out of Hoon Dong’s mouth.

Jang Mi asks about the baby’s name: Myungpoomie. They nod. Hoon Dong tells Hyun Hee to eat a lot, everything she wants. Hyun Hee replies that if she gains weight, she won't fit into her wedding dress. Jang Mi smiles and declares that she doesn't seem to have anything to be worried about anymore. Yeo Reum asks if Jang Mi is going already? Jang Mi replies that she can't stand watching them anymore. As she turns to leave, Ki Tae walks in the door. He’s happy to see her.

Jang Mi stumbles back and sits back down at the table like that was her plan all along. Ki Tae takes the seat next to her. Which, of course he would. Jang Mi looks at him awkwardly. Then she stands and declares that she should go now! Hoon Dong grumbles at her for no making up her mind. Yeo Reum tells her to wait a little longer, his work is almost finished. She agrees, saying she’ll be outside, and basically runs out the door. Yeo Reum watches her leave and he’s not happy. Ki Tae isn’t quite happy but then he smiles to himself because she’s avoiding him. It means that he's getting to her. Heh.

Jang Mi is waiting outside. Ki Tae walks up behind her and declares that everyone will notice if she keeps acting like this. She doesn’t know what he means. Quite confidently, Ki Tae asks her why she doesn’t just write it on her forehead, that they kissed. She immediately puts a hand over his mouth to silence him. Then she puts him in a headlock and drags him off.

Back in the restaurant, Hyun Hee Hoon Dong asks if he doesn't think there's something off with Jang Mi and Ki Tae. They say they're not for real, but they always stick close together. Maybe they grew attached to each other? Hoon Dong notes that they frequently go to Ki Tae's house together where Ki Tae lives alone and Ki Tae isn't the type to let people in his house easily. Yeo Reum walks up and, scaring Hoon Dong, asks that they didn’t know that he living with Ki Tae hyung? Hoon Dong is surprised. Yeo Reum adds that they sleep while hugging each other tightly. Yeo Reum smiles broadly and says that he’s leaving.

Hoon Dong looks at Yeo Reum go and concludes that the reason why Ki Tae doesn't want to marry no matter what is that he’s gay. Hyun Hee butts in to say that Jang Mi unni and Yeo Rum are dating. Hoon Dong says that that could be fake as well. He starts scrubbing his shoulder where Yeo Reum touched him. With squeegee sound effects. Heh. Hyun Hee declares that it makes sense. And I am rolling.

Jang Mi drags Ki Tae up to his office and asks why he’s doing this to her? He asks back why she’s doing this to him? She won’t let him speak with his own mouth. She points at it and declares that that mouth is the problem. All cocky, Ki Tae asks her why… Does her heart flutter when she see his lips? Does her heart skip a beat? Is she avoiding him? She protests that it’s nonsense! Then she admits that she was avoiding him. She knows that she won’t be able to play it cool and act like nothing happened. She can’t help to talk to him about it when she sees him.

Jang Mi blurts out, after a pause, does Ki Tae like her? She’s got her eyes closed like she’s afraid of the answer. He already told you he did. Ki Tae starts laughing. She opens her eyes and asks why he laughed. He snaps back asking if she wants him to cry. She starts nervously laughing and puts some space between them. She sits in the patient chair at his desk and says that it’s a relief. She was afraid that he had become serious about her. Ki Tae sits in his chair and it looks like he starts working as she says that she was kind of confused, as to what their relationship is. It definitely was an act, for him to be able to be alone. Plus she has Yeo Reum. She felt sorry but, she thought she had to draw a line.

Ki Tae protests, asking who draws a line for who?! He told her so many times to not cross the line, but she did it so many times! She uncomfortably laughs and says that it doesn't make sense that he like her, right? Ki Tae blinks and rubs his eyebrow nervously.

Jang Mi asks about the kiss. Ki Tae says that he only did it to shut her up, since she was rattling on so much! This offends Jang Mi. Ki Tae asks if she liked it that much. Was she confused whether it was real or not? She yells back that she wasn’t. He is such a bad kisser! This, of course, offends Ki Tae. He’s about to respond when Jang Mi says that that kiss had no meaning, right? Ki Tae naturally declares that of course it doesn't. Jang Mi declares that, of course, since the day had been so confusing… The sudden vacation, and they drank as well, and she hurt her leg, and Hyun Hee went missing too! Ki Tae just nodding as she talks.

Jang Mi continues that they were exhausted, too, because they were looking for Hyun Hee, right? Their logical reasoning just slipped a bit which caused a small accident. That's all, right? Wow. Ki Tae agrees. Yes, of course, it was a very tiny little accident. Jang Mi says that they’re erasing it now, right, like it never happened. Ki Tae says that he had forgotten it already. She’s the one who brought it up again with no reason. She tells him to never let anyone know about it, okay?! He answers back that as long as she watches out, everything will be fine! Angry, Jang Mi gets up to go.

As Jang Mi opens the door, she’s startled by Yeo Reum being there. He walks in, smiling, and bows a greeting at Ki Tae. Ki Tae asks why he’s there. Yeo Reum replies that he’s there to get Jang Mi. She asks how he knew she was there. He leans in and says that he knows everything. Ki Tae’s momentarily nervous until Yeo Reum adds that whatever Jang Mi does, wherever she is. Not at all stalkerish. Yeo Reum puts his arm around Jang Mi and walks her out.

As they leave, Ki Tae’s focusing on his just finished conversation. He can’t believe Jang Mi said he was a bad kisser. Then he practices puckering. Heh.

Mom is meeting with Oma for coffee. Oma says that last time, she was rude. What?! I sigh with frustration. Mom replies that it’s all in how the person takes it. Mom starts to mention how Oma would want to call off the wedding and Oma back pedals. Mom brings up how Ki Tae is is still close to Se Ah, of course Oma would be angry. Oma says that she believe that Son-in-law Gong will make their Jang Mi happy. Mom nicely hopes so, but after failing on the first try, hopefully he'll do better on the second. He used to do his very best. But she’s not very confident now.

Oma is listening to Mom talk and thinking, “What's this? How did this get flipped around?” Oma declares that she was thinking wrong. Oma declares that she shouldn't have just put all this on Mom. Something called marriage... One side shouldn't just take care all of it. Oops! I guess that goes with your theory on how the mothers will show what their daughters’ hearts are… Mom smiles and says that that makes her sound assertive. Oma replies that from now on, she and Appa will do their proper job as parents. So could Mom please treat their Jang Mi properly.

Mom sweetly replies that she was actually being considerate of Oma’s circumstances, but Oma must have mistook it and felt bad. Oma forces the smiles to stay on her face. She says that first, she and Appa will plan the date. Mom’s surprised. And the control freak is just bubbling below the surface. Oma says that she’s heard that the wife's side takes care of that. Mom must have not heard it. Mom sweetly replies that as far as she knows, the husband's side takes care of it. And Oma caves. I was so hopeful for her.  Mom sweetly asks Oma to please take care of them, officially now. Oma sighs and thinks, “What's this? Why do I feel like I'm being pushed back, with Mom having the upper hand?” She forces another smile at Mom. I like Oma with a backbone. I can’t wait to see her unleash on Mom and put her in her place!

Jang Mi and Yeo Reum are silently walking. Jang Mi almost gets hit by a bicycle, but Yeo Reum pulls her out of the way… and into his arms. Looking at each other, with Yeo Reum definitely wanting to kiss her. She tries to pull out of it, but he doesn’t let her go.

♬ The way you talk always mysteriously stays near my ears, ♬

She asks why and he says that it’s because he wants to kiss her.

♬ The way you talk always mysteriously stays near my ears, ♬

She awkwardly asks him, “Now, here?” He replies asking her why, can’t he?

♬ My face grows red (and my heart gets excited), ♬

Jang Mi can’t really think of a response for that, so Yeo Reum leans in to kiss her. The phone rings. She shoves him off, protesting about, why of all times would a call come in now?!

♬ I faintly hear a well-known song, ♬

She makes a big production over why someone’s calling.

♬ At some point (falling into you), ♬

She looks and it’s Ki Tae.

♬ Walking in that lane, ♬
♬ Walking in that lane ♬

Irritated, Yeo Reum grabs the phone and answers. Ki Tae asks why he’s answering. Yeo Reum responds that Jang Mi is a little flustered right now… And she's all focused on him right now. Face out of Ki Tae ask he orders Yeo Reum to put Jang Mi on the phone. Smiling, Yeo Reum suggests Ki Tae talk to her later. Ki Tae declares that it’s urgent! Yeo Reum answers that Ki Tae can just them tell him, then. Yeo Reum stops smiling as Ki Tae relays that they’re picking a date for the wedding. Jang Mi is shocked.

Gong sound and switch to a bored Ki Tae. Weird guy with middle-parted hair and a mole where his third eye would be is looking back at Ki Tae. Swami asks why Oma had to bring Ki Tae with him, when she could have just had his fortune done. Swami declares that after reading Ki Tae’s fortune, his body’s extremely weak and Swami sees lots of disasters. Ki Tae’s also not a very luck-filled person. A person like this, his relationships with others aren’t easy going. No one would want to befriend him, not even a mouse. Swami adds that it'd be fortunate if only he is lonely, but he has a foul fate to make even those next to him lonely.

Ki Tae winces and makes a face at that one. He looks over at Oma to gauge her reaction. Oma asks Swami about Jang Mi. Jang Mi arrives and yells Oma’s name. Ki Tae waves hello. Swami declares that Jang Mi is filled with money, and in a good position. She is in the core position and is a bag full of luck. Oma makes her sit next to Ki Tae, with Jang Mi protesting. Swami says that Ki Tae here will not only regret losing Jang Mi, but he’ll also hear that he’s a fool. Jang Mi will save Ki Tae even on a brink of death. She probably already did save him from death before. Ki Tae and Jang Mi look at each other. Ki Tae thinks about how she saved him in the bathroom.

Oma asks if the woman will she be ruined if she marries him. Swami declares that Oma doesn't have to worry that much. When it comes to being a match, the most important thing is sexual affinity. For these two, it's amazing. Surprised looks from everyone. My favorite is Ki Tae, who looks like he swallowed a lemon. The women are embarrassed and Ki Tae nods and says, “Yes, that's right.” He adds that it's fantastic. Amazing affinity, amazing affinity. This earns him an elbow to the ribs.

Swami then says that they’re not going to do this marriage, right? Surprise out of Jang Mi and Ki Tae. Oma says they are. Swami declares that if they’re going to do it, they need to do it properly. If not, then put an end to this! Sitting on the fence, is very bad! We know he’s talking about Ki Tae and Jang Mi, but Oma thinks it’s about her. Oma declares that she’s set on the marriage now. Jang Mi shoves Ki Tae, telling him to do something, but he’s staring at the ceiling. He leans in and repeats how Swami says that it's “amazing.” She shoves him again.

They’re leaving the Swami’s. Jang Mi asks how Oma could be setting the date when she said that she was thinking the marriage over. Jang Mi protests that Mom will think she’s a pushover. Ki Tae takes Oma’s arm and declares that Oma is just letting it go "coolly," and she's very forgiving. Jang Mi keeps protesting, but Ki Tae asks Oma what she’d like to eat. Oma replies that they should have a good time since their "thing" (sexual affinity) was so great! Jang Mi is scandalized. As Oma walks away, Ki Tae yells after her “thank you” and “I love you!” They blow air kisses at each other.

Jang Mi is walking with Ki Tae about 30 feet behind her. She stops and faces him, declaring that she can't lie any longer. He wants to know what the problem is now. She said she can't, but she came this far. She says that she’s the type of person who hates lying, hiding and making secrets. Ki Tae rolls his eyes. She protests that because of him, she can't say what she wants to say, and they keep making stuff up that they can't tell people. And to Yeo Reum... Her voice trails off and Ki Tae’s paying attention now.

Jang Mi says that having secrets from a person you like, she doesn't like the feeling. Ki Tae sighs and clears his throat. She reminds him what the fortune teller said. Swami said if he’s going to end it, then end it. Ki Tae grouses that Swami is a con. Her? Save his life from trouble? Ah yeah, unless she’s the “trouble.”

Just like earlier, a bicyclist rides by. Only this time, it’s Ki Tae who’s going to get hit. Jang Mi pulls him out of the way and they end up in each other’s arms. They look at each other uncomfortably. Are they going to kiss again? Please?

♬ When I see you, my heart pounds and my lips dry up ♬
♬ I couldn’t sleep last night because of the butterflies ♬
♬ Why am I like this? My face is getting hot ♬

Lots of blinking going on as they look at each other.

♬ My head gets dizzy, my body gets electrified ♬
♬ Your face flickers before me today ♬

Jang Mi shoves him off and they try to act like nothing just happened. She says that when she’s near him, these kind of things happen. He tells her okay and asks for some time. He needs to think of a way to do it. Jang Mi clears her throat.

Looking at a menu. Royal Bouche, Apple Potage, Sauteed Black Bass & Pie Mille-Feuille in Truffle Sauce, Truffle Risotto, Abaline & Red Snapper in Truffle Sauce. What’s with all the truffles? Passion fruit, Grilled Beef Fillet with Foie Gras in Truffle Sauce, Cheese Plate, Tomato Gratin & Peace Melba. And the cost? 145,000 won per person. Oma is with Mom looking over a potential menu. How hoity-toity is that? Mom is being obnoxious. There’s no reason for all of that. Oma says that if a family of four pour in while only holding a $50 wedding gift in their hand... Oma pauses and then rephrases: The guests could feel burdened. Mom nods and says that for that reason, she’s thinking of not accepting any monetary wedding gifts. What does Mom think? Wow, Mom, wow.

Oma can’t believe Mom is suggesting that. Especially since she (Oma) has been throwing in money all these years (as wedding gifts for others)... And plus, Jang Mi is her only child. Mom replies that Ki Tae is her only child, too, and she doesn't feel right “selling coupons” at my only child's wedding. (Guests bring a monetary gift and in exchange they get a meal coupon.) Oma can’t believe what Mom just said. She declares that it’s a wonderful Korean tradition. It's a way of “helping” others get through financially tough times! Also... it's a way to appreciate friends and loved ones. Mom sweetly replies that she understands. She just thought that Oma might be opposed to materialistic traditions. Oma is shocked but Mom acts like she has something to say.

Switch to that bill for 12,800,000 won. Oma inwardly groans. Mom says that she was expecting a delivery and it never came, so she made an inquiry, only to find out that it was returned. There was almost a misunderstanding. No misunderstanding. Mom knew exactly what was going on. I really hate smiling Mom. Oma’s not going to be shown up but Mom declares that there's no need. They should keep the wedding gifts simple. Oma catches that Mom just said ‘wedding gifts.’ Oma brings up the subject of the dowry and Mom sweetly replies that Oma should prepare whatever her heart desires and Mom will accept it happily. Mom reminds Oma that, even if Mom wanted to decline, Oma wants to do it properly. Oma replies that she will take care of it and prepare it. Properly.

Oma goes home and starts talking to “Yeobo.” He ignores her. Oma gives a really good ‘Oppa’ whine. Appa says that he’ll talk when it sounds like talking. To marry off their daughter, they have to sell the store? Oma protests, asking what they should do. Her research says they should spend at least one "big" check (100,000,000 won) for that kind of household. Appa doesn’t want to since they already bought 5 of those mud beds for them! Oma argues that in return, they're not asking for anything else. If it were other households, they would have to give them three keys (house, car, office space). Appa agrees to mortgage the house. Oma says that it’s the house AND the store. It ends with Appa chasing Oma for already doing it.

Oma is at home, drinking Soju. Jang Mi asks why the store was turned upside down. Jang Mi can’t believe that Oma put up the house and the store. Oma declares that even if she has to sell her soul, she will make it so Jang Mi doesn't feel ashamed in front of that woman. Jang Mi wonders what Oma’s talking about, so Oma shows her the magazine. Article from back when Ki Tae and Se Ah were engaged and Dad asked Mom to marry him again, slipping a pink diamond on her finger. Se Ah tells Ki Tae that she can't believe that such a ideal marriage exists in real life. Ki Tae hugs her and declares that they should be sure to live like Mom and Dad. Mom says that she’ll give the diamond to her daughter-in-law. Se Ah is grateful.

Jang Mi starts to try to tell Oma, but Oma cuts her off, begging Jang Mi to please go through with this kind of wedding. Don't live like her. Then Oma drops the bomb that, instead of marrying for love, she settled for Appa because she knew he was her last chance. Good going, drunk Oma. Oma begs her to have it all. Enjoy it to the fullest. That's Oma’s wish. Oma declares that no matter what happens, Jang Mi has to receive the pink diamond. And I have a feeling I know what Jang Mi smashed now.

Jang Mi heads from home to Ki Tae’s office, where she throws the open magazine on his desk. He’s horrified to see it. Jang Mi tells him that Oma said to receive this ring. Ki Tae can’t stop staring at the magazine. Is this the day he found out about Dad? Jang Mi sits and asks how far is this fake marriage going to go? She corrects herself and says that even if it was a real marriage, Oma’s doing this for her and she can't stand it any longer. Ki Tae still doesn’t say anything or look at her. He turns away from his desk and gets up, staring at the degrees on his wall.

Jang Mi says that Oma got a loan with the house as collateral, put the store up for sale and went back and re-purchased the mud beds that Jang Mi returned! Because of this ring, her household is about to fall apart! How is she not noticing how Ki Tae’s acting? His face looks like he wants to vomit. She asks what they’re supposed to do. Softly, woodenly, Ki Tae says to ask for the ring. Jang Mi replies that she doesn’t want it. Ki Tae turns around and almost angrily declares that if Mom doesn't give Jang Mi the ring, she'll be going against the marriage. Jang Mi should tell her that. Jang Mi still isn’t noticing that Ki Tae’s off. She asks what she should do if Mom gives it to her. Ki Tae declares that Mom won’t. Ever. Jang Mi nods and tells Ki Tae it’s a good idea and if Mom is against the marriage, they are free.

Mom is ironing when Jang Mi calls and asks for the ring. She leaves the iron on the shirt. Sweetly, Jang Mi says that if she receives Mom’s precious pink diamond, it means that she’s recognized as a daughter-in-law of the Gong family. Ki Tae watches as Jang Mi makes the call and tells Mom that she’ll be more appreciative and thankful. She doesn't need anything else. Only that will do. Mom has scorched the shirt she was ironing. She declares that this isn’t a conversation that should be done over the phone. Jang Mi should come to the house on the weekend.

After Mom hangs up (and sighs because of the scorched shirt), Jang Mi asks if Ki Tae is happy now. She declares that she can slowly see the end. Hooray. Sarcastic wave of her hands. She leaves Ki Tae’s office. He looks down and his face quivers, like he’s trying very hard not to cry.

Drunk Jang Mi is looking at her ring finger and asks what is a diamond ring? She didn't really want to receive it. It's not like she’s really getting married. She sighs and leans into her hand as she asks Hyun Hee why she feels like this? Hyun Hee tells her that she started liking Ki Tae for real. Jang Mi makes her stop. Hyun Hee adds that it could be that she really wants to get married. Jang Mi says, of course, she does, but with someone she really loves. Hyun Hee says that because of Gong Ki Tae's outstanding qualifications, she was bound to be swayed. Jang Mi doesn’t think it’s his qualifications. In her heart, it seems like wind is blowing and it just feels... strangely weird.

Hyun Hee declares that Jang Mi really has fallen for Gong Ki Tae. Jang Mi protests that she hasn’t! It's the end for Ki Tae now, if the last plan works. Hyun Hee asks whether Jang Mi is like this because it's the last time, because she might never see Ki Tae again? And that’s it. Jang Mi protests that it can’t be because she has Yeo Reum. Jang Mi slips about the kiss, which surprises Hyun Hee. And blows the theory that Ki Tae is gay out of the water. Jang Mi tries to convince herself that it was an accident. Parts that should not have touched somehow just briefly brushed against each other. Just an accident. Hyun Hee smiles and says that she thought Hoon Dong Oppa and she messed up in their thoughts on the couple.

Switch to Hoon Dong pouring Ki Tae a drink. Ah, I was wondering when Hoon Dong was going to have the ‘gay’ conversation with Ki Tae. Hoon Dong tells Ki Tae to just admit everything to Hoon Dong since he knows it all. Skeptical, Ki Tae asks what he knows. Hoon Dong replies that Ki Tae fell for someone he wasn’t supposed to fall for. Ki Tae’s face says ‘what?’ Ki Tae clears his throat and asks what Hoon Dong is talking about. Hoon Dong replies that the problem is the ‘who,’ right? Ki Tae thought he wouldn't know when it's happening right in front of his nose. He’s Ki Tae’s best friend! Of course he can tell!

Hoon Dong asks how he can help the two of them. This is actually quite sweet, even if Hoon Dong is an idiot. Ki Tae replies that pretending not to know anything is helping them. Ki Tae doesn't want it exposed. Hoon Dong asks if it’s a one-sided love and Ki Tae nods. Hoon Dong sighs and clucks at Ki Tae about how sad and lonely Ki Tae must have been. Drunk Ki Tae reaches over to touch Hoon Dong’s arm. Hoon Dong jumps off his stool, telling Ki Tae to stop touching him randomly. Ki Tae is confused as to why Hoon Dong is mad. But we know what he’s thinking. I just see this going really badly. Like a scene at Bon Cafe where Hoon Dong loudly declares that Yeo Reum is gay, with lots of people staring.

Ki Tae stumbles into his apartment. Jang Mi is asleep on his couch. He squats to look at her. Slowly, he reaches up to touch her hair. Aw.

♬ For a long time, you only cried. ♬
♬ Today, also, I am longing for you. ♬
♬ During those times, it was hard. ♬
♬ You, while comforting me. ♬
♬ Those words, those words. ♬

His touch wakes her. She asks him “why?” He doesn’t know what she means. She asks why can't it be her? He’s still not understanding. She sits up and says “the ring.” Jang Mi asks why she can't have it? Ki Tae looks at the floor.

Switch to Se Ah. She’s talking to herself, pretending to have a conversation with Ki Tae.

♬ I just want your love ♬

Why was it not her?

♬ Will love come? To get your love... ♬

Se Ah whines that she looks so pitiful. She tries to confidently declares that Ki Tae can't have anyone besides her. She whines again and says that whatever she says, she looks pitiful. She remembers back in the room when she asked if it was Jang Mi and then wails that that was pitiful enough. She sighs and turns around to look at Yeo Reum. He asks what she’s doing in the lobby.

Apartment. Jang Mi mentions again how Oma says she'll spend everything she has and give it all. But she (Jang Mi) can't even receive a small ring from him? He tells her that she’s drunk. She wants an answer. Why can't the amazing ring suit her shabby finger? Is it something that only a person like Kang Se Ah can pull it off?! Ki Tae sighs and says that it isn't like that. There was a reason. Jang Mi wants to know the reason. Ki Tae gets up and walks into the kitchen for some water, which he chugs.

Jang Mi follows Ki Tae that she needs the answer. She says that she thought that perhaps, regardless of how bad she wants to get married, she might discover that there was a key reason why they can't get married. She’s wondering if that's it. Didn't he choose her because he can never get married to her? But, why can't it be her? Because she doesn't have money? Is it because her family is so so? If not, just because she’s... her? Ouch. Ki Tae sighs and after looking at the tear rolling down Jang Mi’s cheek, says that it’s because that ring isn't Mom’s ring.

Flashback. Three years ago. Dad’s in a jewelry store, filling out a card for the ring. Ki Tae and Se Ah unexpectedly arrive to look at rings. Dad is cagey. Se Ah declares that it’s a ring for Mom. Ki Tae doesn’t look so sure. Dad says that he’s going to propose for the second time and quickly leaves. But he drops the card. Ki Tae tries to catch Dad, but he doesn’t, so he picks up the card, addressed to ‘J.’ Mom’s name is Shin Bong Hyang. Not a J in sight.

Family is posing for the portrait. At the reporter’s (and Mom’s) insistence, Se Ah joins the portrait. After it’s taken, Se Ah observes that it will be nice to capture the memory of their second proposal in a photo. Mom smiles and asks through her teeth what Se Ah means. Se Ah realizes that it was supposed to be a surprise. Uncomfortable smiling by practically everyone. Wow, so definitely Aunt and Halmeoni know. Ki Tae asks to talk to Dad. As they leave, Reporter asks what Se Ah’s talking about. She explains and Halmeoni definitely looks uncomfortable. Mom gets up to go check.

Ki Tae hands Dad the card and says that he doesn't think J is Mom. Ki Tae asks how on earth Dad could do that. Mom tells Ki Tae to be quiet, the others will. Ki Tae is stunned that Mom knew, that she lets it go on, that she's saying what she's saying. Mom asks why his face looks like that? He needs to change his facial expression and hide his feelings. Ki Tae can’t believe that right now, Mom is worried that people will hear! Mom asks where the ring is. Dad gives her a ‘Yeobo.’ Mom tells Dad to put it on her. Ki Tae can’t believe his parents. Fake smiles and thank you as Ki Tae looks on in horror.

Back in the present, Jang Mi is crying for Ki Tae. Jang Mi asks how Mom could wear that woman's ring in a magazine where everyone in the world can see. Ki Tae replies it’s because everyone sees it. As Ki Tae talks, he cries. Because they can't let things slip out... things like emotions... things like the truth. Jang Mi walks over to him and takes his hand gently. She says that it's okay if he let it slip out on her, because she’s not real. He just stands there and cries.

Se Ah and Yeo Reum arrive to see them holding hands. Yeo Reum is hurt. Se Ah says, “It was that, was it?” getting their attention. They drop hands. Se Ah walks away. Jang Mi says Yeo Reum’s name but he cuts her off, saying that she shouldn't have let him find out. Oof! He sounds like he’s going to cry. She should have been mindful of his putting in effort to be oblivious and she shouldn't have let him find out. He walks out, too.

♬ For a long time ♬
♬ I just cried ♬
♬ Even today I miss you ♬

Ki Tae drives Jang Mi over to the house. She’s thinking of what happened, what Yeo Reum said. She looks at Ki Tae, who is stoically driving. She thinks to herself that it’s dangerous to keep on going. They should end it. She wonders though why she’s feeling so unsettled. She looks at Ki Tae and thinks of what Hyun Hee said about seeing Ki Tae for the last time.

Ki Tae gets Jang Mi with an umbrella. As she gets out, she tells him that today will be the last time she’ll be coming to his house. He replies that since it'll be the last time, she shouldn't make any mistakes. She should make a huge scene to her heart's content. Heh. She says that she will, for the sake of him and her and Yeo Reum. Ki Tae does not look like he wants to go in, but he says they should.

Inside, Mom is polishing rocks. And not looking at Jang Mi. Jang Mi is building up the nerve. No one is talking. Halmeoni clears her throat and asks Jang Mi about the pink diamond. She says that she definitely wants to receive it. Not looking up from her polishing, Mom declares that even though diamonds mean love to girls, Jang Mi’s request for it is so bold that it threw her off guard. Jang Mi immediately replies that she just needs something to make sure, if she can really go along with this marriage, or if she can get acknowledged by Mom as her daughter in law.

Mom looks up from her rocks and asks why Jang Mi needs that ring to do that. Ki Tae replies that it’s because it is a precious ring that means a lot to Mom. Mom asks what if she can’t give it to Jang Mi. Jang Mi replies that she will assume that Mom rejected her. Halmeoni and Aunt shift uncomfortably. Stare off between Jang Mi and Mom.

Dad at a Bar with Trollop, who looks sadly at the ring – that she’s wearing on her RING finger. Dad silently squeezes her hand. Hate both of them. They make me sick.

Jang Mi smiles and says that as expected, Mom doesn't accept her sincerely. She stops when Mom slides a ring box across the table. Jang Mi and Ki Tae look at each other, surprised. Mom tells Jang Mi to open it. A pink diamond. Halmeoni and Aunt are shocked. They knew who the ring was for. Wow. Mom asks if it’s okay now and starts to get up. Jang Mi tells her to wait a minute. She asks Mom if the ring really has a special meaning to Mom. Slight pause before Mom answers, “of course.” Is it really precious? Yes, so Jang Mi has to treat it preciously as well. Jang Mi pulls it out and puts in on the table.

Ki Tae is confused. Jang Mi picks up the rock and brings it down on the ring. Ki Tae says her name as Aunt and Halmeoni are shocked. Jang Mi pulls back the rock. The ring was glass, a fake. Mom is twitching, being exposed as a liar. Jang Mi declares that now she understands positively, what Mom thinks of her. Since Mom rejects her like this, of course, she should stand up. Then Jang Mi asks Mom to please let go of Ki Tae. Stop trying to force him into a marriage that looks good to other people. Halmeoni looks up sadly at Jang Mi.

Mom looks at Ki Tae and asks if he told Jang Mi. He asks which one? About the ring being someone else's? Or how she’s been fooling other people? Mom looks like she has a tear in her eye. Mom asks what his intention in asking for that ring? To shame her? To see her defeated? She sounds almost angry. Jang Mi replies that they wanted to hear Mom’s true, honest feelings. Wow. Mom asks what Jang Mi just said. Jang Mi replies, with tears but not weeping, that they wanted to hear that her marriage is quite different from the pictures in magazines. Mom *is* crying. She tells Jang Mi to shut her mouth. What does she know?

Jang Mi replies that the truth is Mom was very hurt and life was difficult. Mom’s face quivers slightly. Jang Mi cries for her. She continues: That Mom doesn't want Ki Tae to go through the same marriage as hers and that's why Mom’s obsessing over a perfect marriage for him. How much Mom wishes for his happiness. Jang Mi is trying hard to talk as she says that she knows this, but if Mom wants Ki Tae to be happy, she needs to be happy first. Not trying to trick people's eyes with fake happiness, but real happiness! Dang, but she made me cry. Mom looks down and bites her lip to clean off the tears. Ki Tae is just looking at Mom, stunned.

Halmeoni says Jang Mi’s name. She apologizes and, turning back to Mom, says that the person who made Ki Tae be alone is *Mom.* Mom is looking down at the floor. Ki Tae looks away, because he finally understands. Jang Mi walks out of the room. Mom looks at Ki Tae crying and Ki Tae leaves, too. Mom gets up and leaves, a hand to her mouth. In her bedroom, Mom weeps bitterly. Ki Tae’s voice says that of all people, he didn't want her to find out. Bitter sobs and lurching shoulders. Mom pounds what she's sitting on, hating it all.

Jang Mi is outside crying. Ki Tae finds her. She wipes away her tears and pretends to be okay. She asks how it was, her last acting. Ki Tae doesn’t say anything. She tells him that if he’s grateful, he should say he’s grateful, not just blankly stare at her. Ki Tae’s nostrils flare in that way they do when you don’t want to cry. He thinks: “If I say I am grateful, I am worried that that phrase will be the last.” Jang Mi says that she guesses it is really the last time. She sticks out her hand for him to shake. Ki Tae looks at it awkwardly, not wanting to shake it.

♬ I have nothing more to lose ♬
♬ That's why I cry ♬
♬ You are the single tear in my eye ♬
♬ Love, that one easy word ♬
♬ is like tears to me ♬
♬ and they shed foolishly ♬

He shakes it anyway, his eyes moist. Then he pulls her into a hug and holds her tightly.

♬ (Because it's you) I can breathe ♬
♬ (Because it's you) I can withstand it ♬
♬ The one and only one ♬
♬ For just one day ♬

She pats his back. She tells him that he should start letting his emotions out, even though she won’t be beside him. He thinks to himself that even if it’s like this (the fake marriage), he wants to stay by her side. Jang Mi declares that their roller coaster wedding scam is coming to an end. He grabs her more tightly. Like he's holding on for dear life.

♬ I'm inside your eyes ♬
♬ Who cannot be reached ♬
♬ My heart feels cold at the end of a longing ♬

And Halmeoni asks what Jang Mi just said. Fake marriage?!!

Thoughts

Wow, I love Jang Mi. She saw what everyone else -- including me -- didn't: the motive behind her psycho behavior towards finding him a good bride. She wanted him to be happy and not end up in a marriage like hers. I still don't understand her marriage and frankly, I would want to divorce him and stick it to him. How she was weeping, sobbing at the end of the episode was hard to watch.

I'm grateful that they finally brought that out so that I can like Mom again. I was really hating how she was treating Jang Mi and Oma. I think Jang Mi needs to educate Oma on how Mom operates, because Mom kept punching assertive Oma back in the box. And Mom has no problem with Oma and Appa mortgaging everything because from her viewpoint, she's protecting Ki Tae from a poor match.

I love what's going on with them right now. Neither one is ready to acknowledge their feelings, although Ki Tae is closer than Jang Mi is to really declaring himself. The way that he held onto Jang Mi for dear life at the end, it says that next episode, well maybe not because they just got busted, but soon Ki Tae isn't going to play like he doesn't like Jang Mi anymore. But I love how it’s making them be really goofy.

I wonder if Hyun Hee is going to tell Hoon Dong that Ki Tae and Yeo Reum are NOT lovers. I would be tempted to let Hoon Dong suffer a little more. But I think she will. I'm glad this episode redeemed her, too, for me, because I had full-on hate for her going with no sympathy. I really loved Hoon Dong's reaction when he found out she was pregnant. It was excellent and entirely unexpected from him, the way that he couldn't break up with Jang Mi face-to-face. I don't envy Hyun Hee having to deal with HDM. Not one bit.

I don't know who I like more: Ki Tae or Yeo Reum. The more I see of Yeo Reum -- and I'm not talking physically! (even if he is built) -- the more I really like him, because he might know how to play situations, but it's not to hurt other people. It's to keep himself from getting hurt. What he told Jang Mi, how she should have kept herself from getting caught because it was obvious that he was ignoring it, that was really deep and shows someone in touch with their emotions. But I think I like Ki Tae more. Yeo Reum is sweet and encouraging and knows the right thing to do, secure in himself and his relationships, and is supportive when Jang Mi needs to vent, but he's not challenging enough. What I mean is: Ki Tae is someone that I would have fun playing cards against. There would be times that he would drive me nuts, like when he is not doing what he's supposed to... that's not exactly what I mean... there would be times when we would bump heads, when he wouldn't do what I wanted him to, even if we agreed beforehand about something. I can't see Yeo Reum not doing what his girl friend wants (for the most part). He's too accommodating, that's the word. Plus Ki Tae would tease me, too, which I would hate, but at the same time, would like. For some women, Yeo Reum is perfect, but for me, I like a little fight sometimes.

I wonder what Se Ah's thinking now, because she finally knows what it was that soured their relationship. I wonder if she thinks that she can fix things now, because she knows the reason and can deal with it. But I know that she's not going to be able to fix it, because Ki Tae's moved on and because she's too much like Mom. Part of the appeal for Ki Tae was that she was so much like Mom and was someone that his parents approved of. When his world was shattered, especially since Mom *knew* and put on such an act in front of everyone, it just shattered that being appealing ever. All this time, Ki Tae has been angry at Mom for letting herself be treated like that and for trying to put him with someone like her. He doesn't want that for her or for himself.

Which brings us back to Jang Mi. I just love her so much. I love it when she's not letting everyone else's happiness come before hers. And right now, she's not quite where she needs to be. She's worried about Yeo Reum's heart, instead of worrying about what her heart wants. Jang Mi is the perfect person to heal this family, because she will call them on their crap, but not in a harsh way, but she'll say the things that need to be said, even if she's crying for you while she says them. That Jang Mi cried for Mom is so moving. It shows what a great person she is. Thank you, Han Groo for your performance. You are wonderful in making Jang Mi wonderful.

I can't believe that Aunt and Halmeoni have just ignored what Dad has been doing. Plus they treat Mom badly. But it probably goes back to losing respect for Mom and not understanding why Mom acts the way she does. I wonder if their behavior is going to change towards Mom after this. Still really hate Dad.

An, oh, crappers! Halmeoni knows the marriage was a fake. Everything is about to hit the fan!

Oh! Wanted to add one other thing. I really love the music they're including in the show, whether it's the sound effects or the songs. Really love the music.
