Marriage Not Dating Episode 5 Recap

Finally, I’ve recapped up to what I’ve watched. I’ve been dying to see what will happen after the big blow out at Ki Tae’s and how he’s going to make it up to Jang Mi after being such a turd.

The episode starts with Jang Mi and Ki Tae standing in the street. He calls her name and she turns around to look at him, soaked. She tells not to come near her. He looks like he feels bad about something. Of course, we don’t know exactly what, but it’s probably not the incident at Harabeoji’s memorial service. He asks if she’s okay. She blinks and it’s obvious that she’s not. She shakes her head and tells him not to come near her. He says her name again. Tears are forming in her eyes as she says that it’s all because of him. That definitely makes him feel bad. He softly says that he’s really sorry. He steps forward again and she takes a step back, repeating that she told him to leave. He asks her why she’s like this. She’s crying as she tells him to go. She begs him to go.

[ Episode 5: Words that I Can Only Say to You ]

[ One Day Before the Typhoon Invasion ]

Jang Mi and Yeo Reum are still asleep at Bon Café. Hoon Dong is unlocking the doors, the noise from which wakes Yeo Reum. I can tell it’s Hoon Dong because of his shoes. He looks over at the sleeping Jang Mi and smiles. Another lock disengages and Yeo Reum realizes that someone is coming in. He tries to wake Jang Mi, but she’s out. Yeo Reum hides as Hoon Dong comes down the stairs.

Jang Mi groans and Hoon Dong hears. He discovers her sleeping. Of course, he’s going to think that she’s there because of him, because that’s how his brain works. When he realizes that the person under the blanket is Jang Mi he leans in closer, at which point Jang Mi wakes up and starts thrashing about violently because she wasn’t expecting to see Hoon Dong. He starts yelling because he’s yelling. Hoon Dong asks her why she’s there. She wonders why she’s there, too, until she sees the hiding Yeo Reum, who motions for her to keep quiet. Hoon Dong doesn’t notice.

Hoon Dong slides into the seat next to her and takes her hand. He tells her that he was so worried. She wants to know why – since he’s the jerk who dumped her and who she’s told many times she doesn’t want to have anything to do with. He says gently that it’s because he knows what Ki Tae's mom is like. He pats her hand and says that she should just tell him everything. After all, she waited all night to see him, right?

Jang Mi tells Hoon Dong to let go of her hand, which he does, only to pull her into a huge hug. As Hoon Dong strokes her hair, saying that everything is okay, because she’s come back to him, Jang Mi gestures frantically at Yeo Reum to help her. Yeo Reum, however, creeps off since he can get away. She looks pleading at Yeo Reum, but he leaves. Hoon Dong says that he will protect her, as she chokes on his shoulder.

HDM and Mom arrive. They see the embrace, although only Jang Mi sees them arriving. Frantically, she shoves Hoon Dong off of her, causing him to flop to the floor and bang his elbow. HDM immediately calls Jang Mi the crazy stalker. Jang Mi is mortified. Mom clarifies that the girl who stalked Hoon Dong is... HDM finishes the sentence: This brat, er, this girl. HDM starts yelling at Jang Mi, asking what she’s trying to do to Hoon Dong now.

Hoon Dong goes to stand by Jang Mi and declares that it's nothing like that. It's a misunderstanding. HDM asks how it can be a misunderstanding. Jang Mi is the stalker for sure. It was just a few days ago that she made the police come out after she caused a ruckus while holding a beer bottle. Mom asks if it was an incident that happened pretty recently? HDM declares that it's only been 2-3 weeks since the stalker case at the courthouse. Mom smiles slightly; she understands.

Hoon Dong declares that he was the one who did wrong that time. He shouldn't have treated Jang Mi like that back then. HDM pulls out her phone and declares that she I shouldn't just be standing there. She needs to call the police. Hoon Dong grabs HDM’s phone and declares that he loves Jang Mi. Jang Mi looks at him like he’s crazy. Mom can’t believe it. HDM can’t believe it either, but for not the same reason.

HDM protests, asking how Hoon Dong could forget what Jang Mi did to him! Hoon Dong replies that no, he couldn’t forget. The feelings that Jang Mi gave to him, and the scar that he gave to her, he won't forget it until he dies. So, it's even harder. HDM is practically speechless. She asks Jang Mi what she’s done to Hoon Dong. Jang Mi isn’t paying attention to HDM. She’s just looking at Mom, who is looking at Jang Mi with an expression that says, “how dare you lie?”

Hoon Dong wiggles his body like a three-year-old throwing a fit and declares that HDM is only making things more difficult. HDM yells back that he’s embarrassing her! A smiling Mom turns to HDM and declares that she shouldn’t say that. Love is nothing to be embarrassed about. The most embarrassing thing is lying. Isn't that right, Joo Jang Mi? Jang Mi meekly apologizes.

Ki Tae chimes in from the doorway and asks what she did that was wrong? He walks into the restaurant and bow deeply to HDM. He apologizes to her. He says that the person who made things harder for Hoon Dong is him. His heart was stolen by Jang Mi. Mom tells Ki Tae to stop playing around. Ki Tae declares that he’s being serious. He says that he’s sorry, but he’s getting married to Jang Mi. Surprised looks from Jang Mi, Hoon Dong and Yeo Reum. Mom chuckles because he’s still at it. But Ki Tae’s just looking, apologetically, sincerely at Jang Mi.

HDM wants to know what Ki Tae is saying. Is that true? Jang Mi declares that she can tell them the truth. Mom says she wants to go. She feels embarrassed. Ki Tae starts to point out how Mom said that love isn't something to be embarrassed of, but Mom doesn’t react and keeps going up the steps. Ki Tae heads after Mom and Jang Mi, after apologizing again, hurries after Ki Tae. HDM wants to know what is going on. Hoon Dong declares that it's how she saw it. Her son is about to have his woman stolen by his friend.

Ki Tae, Jang Mi and Mom go to Ki Tae’s office. Which is smart since it’s right upstairs. Mom dismisses Jang Mi with a "you, over there." Ki Tae wants to know how Mom can talk to Jang Mi like that. Like she's a peon. Mom declares that they have no reason to see Jang Mi anymore; the play is over. Ki Tae acts like he has no idea what Mom is talking about. Mom sums it up: “Let's escape the pressure to get married by putting this ridiculous woman in front.” That's what he was trying to do. Ki Tae says that Mom misunderstood. Mom replies that she was mistaken at first. She thought that Jang Mi was a girl Ki Tae was dating, so Mom even invited Jang Mi to the house. She wanted to find out about Jang Mi… Jang Mi was Hoon Dong's stalker.

Jang Mi meekly apologizes. Ki Tae says that it’s a scar for Jang Mi so Mom shouldn’t bother it and make Jang Mi hurt even more. Ki Tae repeats what he’s said: If it isn't Joo Jang Mi, he won't get married. Jang Mi looks at Ki Tae, shocked. Mom can’t believe it either. It’s his friend's girl... no, his friend's stalker. Ki Tae wants to marry her? Jang Mi’s had about enough of Mom caller her a stalker. She starts to speak up and Ki Tae adds an “I know.” He says that he’s even surprised at himself. He supposes that this is what's called love.

Jang Mi looks at Ki Tae like he’s crazy and asks if he’s kidding. Ki Tae’s having a stare down with Mom. Mom tells him to stop kidding around! During Harabeoji’s memorial, Jang Mi made the whole house a mess. Is this what the Gong's third generation only son should be doing? Jang Mi chimes in that that’s what she’s saying! Ki Tae replies, still not taking his eyes off Mom, that the Gong's third generation only son should be a bachelor forever, then. Mom blinks at him, not responding. Ki Tae declares that if she’s are against their marriage, then he’s going to live alone for his entire life. Jang Mi says Ki Tae’s name, telling him to be reasonable.

Mom asks Ki Tae if he’s really going to keep doing this. Jang Mi tries to say something but both Mom and Ki Tae tells her to stay out of it. Ki Tae looks back at Mom and tells her to admit it. It's not that Mom doesn't believe him, Mom just hates Jang Mi. Mom declares that if she gets substantial evidence that it’s a lie, Ki Tae has to marry a girl that Mom chooses. Ki Tae gives an eyebrow raise that he understands. Mom pushes in between them and leaves the office, with Jang Mi giving her customary deep bow.

As soon as Mom is gone, Ki Tae grabs his heart, breathing a big sigh of relief. Jang Mi immediately starts slapping him, hard, demanding to know what he’s doing. Why is he still forcing something when they’ve already been caught?! He motions at her to keep her voice down and tells her that if he gets caught doing this, he has to marry a girl Mom chooses. Jang Mi whines that they already decided to finish this last night. How far is he planning on going? Ki Tae replies that he won’t stop until he gets the right to live by himself for the rest of his life.

Jang Mi asks what he’s saying. Ki Tae strolls over to his desk and says that last night, he declared it in front of his entire family, that if they oppose Jang Mi, he’s going to live alone for his entire life. Ki Tae turns and intently looks at Jang Mi as he declares that her role is more important than anything else. Create more and more drama. Jang Mi sighs as she asks why he’s doing this to her. Ki Tae doesn’t answer that question but asks her why she got caught today. Why was she at Bon Café? She’s not specific. Ki Tae notices that Jang Mi’s in the same clothes as yesterday.

Hoon Dong is still talking with HDM. He protests that Jang Mi asked for his help, so HDM should let him help! And more of the five-year-old tantrum whining and wiggling. Hoon Dong tells HDM that she’s different from Ki Tae’s Mom. HDM always listens to what he has to say. HDM agrees with that (that she’s always listened). She says that she’s never nagged him about how he plays around, because a man needs to do that in order to know woman and to find the right match. And I roll my eyes. I hate that double standard. It’s just plain ridiculous. But Hoon Dong played around too much. HDM asks Hoon Dong why he doesn’t like normal women. Because he’s bored?

Hoon Dong protests that Jang Mi is a good girl. He asks HDM if she’s going to be happy when Ki Tae steals his girl. HDM looks like she’s just fine with that. Hoon Dong scoffs and says that whenever Ki Tae's mother buys a handbag, HDM has to go and buy the same one right away! HDM protests that spurious accusation! HDM declares that she is not amused and stomps out of Bon Café. Hoon Dong throws a major snit fit that would make any spoiled five-year-old proud.

Jang Mi and Ki Tae are riding in his car. He can’t believe that she was with Yeo Reum. All night. And because Ki Tae’s not jealous at all… He asks her if she, by any chance, did it? She’s shocked at the question. He repeats it: Did she do it or not? She sputters that she drank alcohol and then passed out right away! He clarifies that he’s asking if she told Yeo Reum about their relationship. Sure that was your question… Jang Mi says that she probably didn't. She may have though...

Ki Tae pulls over. It’s a cell phone store. He gets her a smart phone. She looks at it and wonders why she would accept it. Ki Tae tells her that from now on, whenever and wherever she goes, she has to tell him. Now, that’s not controlling. It has a 24-hour tracking device. It’ll be useful, so she can use it for whatever she wants. Jang Mi sighs and says that she doesn’t even know what he’s saying or why he has to do this. He can’t believe she doesn’t get it. Their relationship can never be found out! They can't go back now. Jang Mi tells him that that’s *his* situation.

Jang Mi tries to leave the store but Ki Tae does a wrist grab and slaps the phone into her hand. He tells her that he’ll give her everything she needs. He asks her what else she needs. Money? How much should he give her? Jang Mi thinks for a moment and then takes both his hands in hers. She wants him to sincerely tell her that he’s sorry that her phone broke because of him." He’s ‘confused.’ She says that if you're sorry, you're supposed to say that you're sorry. He shouldn’t try to smooth things over with money. And this makes that apology at the beginning of the episode have a whole different meaning behind it. She sticks the phone back into his hand and starts to leave. Ki Tae calls after Jang Mi, asking if she’s going to be fine not calling Yeo Reum? A girl and a guy were together all night, but one side can't be reached. Will she be okay with that? She takes the phone.

On her break from work, Jang Mi looks at a text from Yeo Reum. He apologizes for earlier. It was uncomfortable because of him, right? And it’s killing me because the graphic of Yeo Reum is bobbing his head back and forth as she types her reply, like he’s waiting for it. Heh. Jang Mi asks if he’s okay. He didn’t get caught by Hoon Dong, did he? Yeo Reum replies that thanks to her, he wasn’t caught, and because he’s so thankful, he wants to buy her something delicious. When’s a good time? She starts to reply that she’ll come after she gets off from work.

Suddenly, the Yeo Reum graphic is shoved out of the way by a Ki Tae graphic. Ki Tae’s text demands that they meet after work. She makes a face and texts Ki Tae that she’s making plans right now. Ki Tae immediately knows who the plans are with, and texts back that she shouldn’t meet with Yeo Reum for a while. She replies that she doesn’t want to (obey him). He can’t believe she’s really not going to cooperate? She replies that she’s not. Ki Tae verbally sighs and says that he has something to threaten her with. She wonders what that is. Way to have a healthy relationship… You don’t do what I want, I’ll blackmail you. I guess he did learn it from his Mom.

Ki Tae is at work. Oma is his patient. The nurse tells her that her procedure will start in 30 minutes. Nurse is slathering some cream on her face. Mom asks whether the cream will help with the pain. Ki Tae smoothly tells her that it won't hurt at all, so not to worry. She’ll end up pretty like a celebrity. Oma giggles and says that the young kids these days keep talking about fillers so she was curious about what that was. Thank to her son-in-law Gong she gets to get one finally. She hopes that she’s not being too much of a burden. Ki Tae smarms that how could it be a burden between family? It’s really nothing. Calling her “Mother-in-law” for emphasis.

Later, Oma is looking at herself in the mirror. The phone rings. It’s Appa. He asks what she’s doing. She says that she’s getting the life that got wrinkled because she met the wrong husband smoothed out by her son-in-law. She wants to know what he wants. He responds that she talks such pretty words. This is why he doesn't want to talk to her. He demands that she hurry up and get to the Chicken Shack. It's busy. Oma tells him that whenever he opens his mouth, he nags. She doesn't want to talk to him anymore. She hangs up on him and goes back to admiring herself in the mirror.

Jang Mi is at a café, frustrated over Oma. Ki Tae sits with 2 ice cream cones. She declares that she’s not eating it. He tells her that she can just hold it. She moans but takes the cone. Ki Tae leans in to take a selfie. She wants to know what he’s doing. He tells her to just stay still. He snaps a few. She’s not smiling, but looking at him. He smacks her in the face with his ice cream and then takes a picture, wearing a smile as she’s mad. She asks him *what* he’s doing. He says he’s getting proof that they’re lovers. He posts the pick to his SNS feed. She’s annoyed but then she really shoves her cone in his face. This makes her and me laugh. Ki Tae takes advantage of the moment to get one where they’re both laughing.

Next is drinking orange juice out of the same glass with two different straws. It’s hysterical to see how annoyed she looks and how down to business he is when the camera isn’t watching. He buys her a rose. They smile. He posts. While his back is turned, she takes a sniff of the rose with a smile. He turns around in time to see it. Movie theater. Sharing a soda. Hooray! They didn’t use a flash. Nice phone commercial, btw, showing just how cool Ki Tae's phone is. They end up enjoying the movie and laughing together.

Move to a bar with tall, fruity drinks. Cheers! They pose with the drinks. Ki Tae laughs when he looks at the picture but Jang Mi doesn’t like it. She looks weird. She wants him to retake it. He says it turned out well. She doesn’t agree. He’s smiling as he tells her that she normally looks like that. She protests that she does not usually look like that. She’s not that bad. He says that she is and tells her to come to his office sometime. She tells him to take it again. He rolls his eyes, but he takes another one, which she likes. They laugh over their pictures. Hmmm... How compatible they are...

Yeo Reum is at work, cleaning, checking out the SNS feed. He’s not wearing his normal smile. He remembers how Jang Mi declares that she found herself being sincere. He wonders what in the world that girl is thinking?

Ki Tae is dropping Jang Mi off at home when she gets a text from Yeo Reum. He says that he’ll be waiting for her at the same spot as yesterday. Ki Tae tries to read it, but Jang Mi hides it and then he pretends he wasn’t really interested in what it said. She tells him that he can leave now. He replies that he will after he sees her go in. She tells him that he can stop acting like her lover. There's no one around. He gets out of the car and opens her door for her. She climbs out and they look at each other. Ki Tae tells her to go inside. She waves and tells him to go.

As she starts for her door, Jang Mi turns around and comes back to where Ki Tae is still standing. She tells him thanks for the flower. She turns to go inside and that look that Ki Tae gets on his face when he looks at her happens, when he’s struck by the goodness of her heart. He smiles slightly. He calls after her that it’s late. She shouldn’t go anywhere and just go to sleep.

Jang Mi puts the rose in a vase. She sits and looks at it and smiles. Then she remembers what Yeo Reum texted her. She hurries to change her clothes. She also pulls out a face mask. Yeo Reum doesn’t recognize her at first when she arrives at the restaurant. But as soon as she starts walking so goofily, it’s really obvious who it is. He’s laughing. He asks her if she’s a robber. She smiles and says that if someone saw, things might turn into a big mess again. Does he want to go to another place other than Bon Café? He says that he was in the middle of doing something. He needs to clean up after himself. Jang Mi has no problem with that.

Ki Tae is at home in bed. He’s looking at the pictures from earlier today. He laughs at the ice cream one and then remembers he’s not supposed to be laughing. He clears his throat. Then he checks the tracking app he’s installed on Jang Mi’s phone. She’s at Bon Café (even though the official title of the place is Bon Weekend, I’m calling it Bon Café). Ki Tae’s not happy. He sits up in bed, furious. He huffs and mutters under his breath about this girl.

Yeo Reum is in the middle of cooking. Jang Mi declares that it smells wonderful! Yeo Reum tells her that it's not for eating. He’s going to throw it away. She can’t believe that. He’s wiping up the counter top. Without looking up, she tells her that she can’t be hungry, anyways, because of all the delicious things she ate with Ki Tae hyung. Not jealous at all. Uncomfortably, she asks if he saw the pictures. He replies, not looking at her, that he was looking at his cell phone, waiting for someone's phone call, to the point where his eyes were about to fall out, and then he ended up seeing it. She apologizes. She’s about to explain when the phone rings.

It’s Ki Tae. He demands to know where she is. She says she’s at home. Ki Tae says that he already knows that she’s with Yeo Reum. Her face says that she’s shocked he knows. He tells her to get out of there right now. She tells him that this is an invasion of privacy. Ki Tae tells her not to trust Han Yeo Reum! It's dangerous– She hangs up on him. Which does not make Ki Tae happy.

Jang Mi looks at Yeo Reum and smiles awkwardly. Not that he didn’t just hear your entire conversation. He asks if she bought a new cell phone. She starts to explain about Ki Tae buying it when Yeo Reum declares that the pair must be in a relationship for Ki Tae to buy her an expensive phone. Are they meeting because of money? She asks him what he takes her for. She doesn’t appreciate any of this stuff.

Jang Mi mutters that the cell phone that she used for over 6 years dropped into the dishwater. Yeo Reum can’t believe she used the same phone for 6 years! Jang Mi replies that she can't throw things away easily. She sighs over the feeling she got from her phone when she opened and closed it. She liked the feeling of pressing down on the buttons with her fingers.

Yeo Reum asks her why she likes Ki Tae hyung then. She said it wasn't money. Is there something else besides money? She can hear Ki Tae tell her not to trust Han Yeo Reum, that bastard. Instead of answering she asks why he keeps asking questions? Especially about her and Ki Tae's relationship! Why is he so interested? Yeo Reum answers that he just wanted to know. Can he not do that? She responds by asking what kind of person he is. Shouldn't she know more about him, too? Smiling widely, Yeo Reum says that being mysterious is my concept.

Yeo Reum grabs the food and goes to throw it out. Jang Mi protests. He says that he just made it for fun, since it was going to expire. She demands he give her the pot. She samples it and tells him that the taste is killer. He tells her that she’s going to get sick. She ignores him and eats some more of it. And I’m amazed that she’s not burning herself right now since that pot was just sitting on the stove and she’s holding it by the base with her bare hands. He smiles in appreciation of her and then stops smiling as he watches her smiling. But watching her enjoy it, it makes him smile again. And that expression reminds of the kind that guys get when they’re falling in love. The girl doesn’t even notice when he’s in awe of her. It’s that kind of look.

Jang Mi tells Yeo Reum that she thinks she kind of knows now. Like her, he can't abandon things easily, right? And he feels bad for doing it. He asks her what she’s saying, but again his face says that she’s seen through his façade and found the real him. He tells her that the food was made to be thrown away. She looks at him and says that isn't it because he thinks he'll be abandoned, so he’s abandoning it first? No smile from Yeo Reum as he asks what she’s talking about. Jang Mi says that for her, she hates being abandoned and feels scared, too. She says that they both can't abandon things easily so she thought maybe it's for the same reason. His voice low, he says, “What do you know?”

Jang Mi says that it just seems that way, after she gets a taste of it. Yeo Reum leans in close and tells her to let him have a taste, too. He goes in for a kiss and then another.

Ki Tae is furious. He’s left his house in his pyjamas. He rants, “Just wait until I catch them!” She has been there for a while. He stops and looks down at his feet. He’s wearing two different shoes, both for the right foot. He sighs and asks what he's doing. Catching a wife who's cheating? He laughs at himself. It starts to rain.

[ 20 Hours Before the Typhoon Invasion ]

Jang Mi and Yeo Reum are still kissing. He takes the pot out of her hands and puts in on another counter, so that they can wrap their arms around each other as they kiss.

The next day, Aunt and Halmeoni are doing yoga. Dad returns home. Halmeoni comments on how Dad couldn't even come home overnight, since he was working so hard on his research. How hard it must have been on him. Yeah, whatever. We both know where he was, especially since his back isn’t sore. Mom is ironing. He drops off his laundry that he was carrying in a department store sack and says that he has to go out right after. She knows. He asks Mom if there’s going to be a problem. How did Jang Mi find out, anyway? Mom puts his change of clothes in the sack. Are they actually separated? Is he living with Mistress?

Dad declares that he was super careful. Dad wonders if Ki Tae told Jang Mi. Mom doesn’t respond. Dad says that he’s worried about the house. He doesn’t think Jang Mi’s a bad person, but they should be wary because she’s not prudent or careful. She's like a bomb that could go off at any time. Still no response from Mom. Not that he deserves a response.

Jang Mi is at work. She’s banging her head against the wall as she tells herself that she’s crazy. Hyun Hee asks what's the matter. Jang Mi looks at Hyun Hee, a little crazy-eyed, and declares that she supposes that she’s crazy. Then she laughs like a crazy person. Hyun Hee asks if she’s okay. Now serious, Jang Mi declares that she’s okay. Then she breaks into a happy dance as she declares that she’s not okay. What to do? Hyun Hee smiles and says that something good must have happened to her. Jang Mi nods vigorously.

Hyun Hee is shocked. She kissed Yeo Reum? What about Ki Tae? Jang Mi’s stomach churns. Hyun Hee says that she thought Jang Mi was going to get married, but now she doesn’t even want to think about it? What about Hoon Dong Oppa? More stomach churning. Jang Mi moans that her stomach is a little... It’s that food she chowed down on that Yeo Reum was going to throw out. Hyun Hee looks at Jang Mi and asks if Jang Mi feels bad even when she mentions Hoon Dong Oppa's name? Jang Mi looks positively nauseous. She rushes off for the bathroom. Hyun Hee sighs and wonders what will happen to their Hoon Dong Oppa? And she smiles wickedly as she thinks about it.

On her way to the bathroom, Jang Mi runs into Mom, who wants to talk. Jang Mi tries to hurry off to the bathroom. Mom steps into her path. She declares that will only be for a short moment. Another stomach gurgle. They are now sitting, side by side. Jang Mi is trying not to squirm with her discomfort. Mom declares that Jang Mi must be uncomfortable with this situation as well. Mom wants to know what Jang Mi is taking on the main actress for this unbelievable show? Even if Ki Tae has obvious plans. Did Ki Tae pay her?

Jang Mi doesn’t really answer, simply asks, “Huh?” Mom asks if she asked something too definite. Jang Mi chuckles and mutters that if she knew this was going to happen, she would have taken a lot of money. Ki Tae, that bastard... She corrects herself and apologizes. She says that getting involved with Ki Tae is very tiring physically and emotionally. Mom pulls out a recorder and tells Jang Mi that it’s okay. Jang Mi just needs to tell her the amount and Mom will give her more, regardless of how much it was that she received. Jang Mi looks at the recorder. I’m wearing the same face, like I can’t believe Mom is going there. Mom says Jang Mi should just tell her that Jang Mi’s relationship with Ki Tae was all a lie. She just needs to say that.

Jang Mi laughs with disbelief, at the irony. She declares that when they first met, she was sort of jealous. Here was such an elegant mother and calm father, so different from her parents. She thought that the nice, peaceful families she saw in dramas actually existed. But the more she got to know of them, she learned that the dramas are the crazy ones. Mom can’t believe Jang Mi’s brashness. Jang Mi declares that they are mother and son. It's something they can solve by having a conversation. What she’s doing is just not right... Mom tells her to shut up.

Jang Mi apologizes if she hurt Mom’s feelings. It's been a long time since her family has stopped talking to each other. Jang Mi says that she felt bad for Mom. Mom is insulted. How dare she? Mom moves in her seat again and Jang Mi puts up her arms to block Mom’s slap. Mom laughs with disbelief. Then she looks up and sees Mistress walking with shopping bags. She immediately goes and hides out of sight.

Mistress is talking to Dad on the phone, calling him Oppa. She says that she spent a lot of money at the department store today. Is he going to punish her? A pause and then she tells Oppa that it’s his fault that this happened. Jang Mi stops cringing and discovers Mom hiding behind a purse. She looks and sees Mistress, who says that she bought it all for Oppa. She understands what’s going on.

Jang Mi tells Mom that she can come out now. Mom sighs and tries to regain her dignity. Jang Mi asks why Mom hid. Mom says that she was picking up something she dropped. Jang Mi asks – what all of us are thinking – Shouldn't the one who needs to hide be Mistress rather than Mom? Mom didn't see who Jang Mi’s talking about. Mom walks away and Jang Mi sighs, feeling bad for her.

Mom exits the department store and can barely hold it together. She adjusts her shoulders and gathers up her coat and walks on.

[ 11 Hours Before the Typhoon Invasion ]

Mom goes to visit Ki Tae. She looks broken even as she stands there. Ki Tae notices. Mom asks how that child knew about Dad’s affair. Ki Tae tells Mom to sit. Mom says that Dad’s promotion is in front of their noses. If the world finds out about it, everything will be ruined. I really don’t understand her. How she’s convinced herself that this is what a good wife does. Ki Tae sighs. He sits and asks why Mom is talking about Dad's mistress, for once? It was forbidden. A flicker of a reaction out of her. He asks her if the word “forbidden” a bit too much for Mom?

Mom again asks if Ki Tae told Jang Mi. He doesn’t answer. Did he do it to suffocate Mom? He pauses and says that he’s the one who’s trying to breathe. He says that around Jang Mi, without him realizing, everything just comes out. He says that it's refreshing to be able to talk to at least one person. Someone he can talk to comfortably. Mom can’t believe he said “comfortably.” Even if that comfort brings him down to the floor (ruins him)?

Ki Tae asks that at that moment, with those words, is Mom rejecting Jang Mi? So he should live by himself forever? Mom tells him to just wait for a bit. She’s soon bring conclusive evidence that he and Jang Mi’s relationship is fake. She leaves. Ki Tae grabs the cap off his head and throws it onto his desk with frustration.

Bon Café. Yeo Reum is watching the chef cook and getting on Chef’s nerves as he does. Chef asks why Yeo Reum keeps hanging around. Yeo Reum takes that moment to ask if Chef will taste the food he made. Chef chuckles derisively and tells Yeo Reum to go ahead. Yeo Reum grabs his pot and says that he just wants Chef to check it to see if it was okay. Yeo Reum begs/pleads for Hyung to just try it for once. Chef samples the broth with a frown. He asks if Yeo Reum used his kitchen. Yeo Reum says he made it at home. Chef throws down his spoon and tells Yeo Reum to eat it at home. What is this guy’s problem? Yeo Reum asks if it was so-so and Chef sarcastically answers that it was so-so. Then he tells Yeo Reum to go away. Yeo Reum leaves and Chef immediately tastes Yeo Reum’s broth again. And so the guy lied.

HDM is getting her hair done. She thinks about how Hoon Dong talked about Ki Tae stealing his woman. She declares that the more she thinks about it, the madder she gets. Is he calling her a copy cat? Mom has arrived at the same beauty parlor. HDM is overjoyed to see Mom. Mom smiles and declares that HDM is especially friendly today. But it wasn’t Mom that HDM was overjoyed to see. It was Se Ah. Se Ah isn’t sure who HDM is, so she introduces herself. HDM says that she heard a lot about Se Ah from Hoon Dong. Se Ah greets HDM, but adds that she doesn't interact with him much though.

Mom joins the conversation and says that Se Ah probably would have seen Hoon Dong here and there through their Ki Tae. Se Ah smiles. Mom adds that Se Ah broke up with Ki Tae. Se Ah asks if Mom has been well. Mom says she is and that it’s been a long time. Mom’s smiling quite affectionately at Se Ah right now. HDM asks if Se Ah is a regular in the salon. She’s not; her usual hairdresser went on maternity leave. HDM declares that it’s fate and invites Se Ah to her wine club. They’re meeting tonight.

HDM asks Mom if she thought that it would be okay to invite Se Ah. Mom isn’t sure; how much fun would it be for Se Ah to come to an old ladies’ meeting? HDM asks if Se Ah knows why Mom finds the meetings so important. Because the wife of the chancellor of Dad's university is a member. Nothing like networking for your cheating husband. Does she somehow think by being this ‘faithful’ wife that it’s going to win him back? I just don’t understand it. Mom’s smile has become more forced. She clears her throat and tells Se Ah that she doesn't have to come out to the meeting if she doesn't feel like it. They can meet together later just the two of them. Se Ah gratefully smiles.

HDM proposed that they should have today's meeting at Hoon Dong's restaurant. If Hoon Dong is there, then Se Ah would be much more comfortable. Doesn’t Mom think so? Se Ah smiles and declares that with such an invitation, she should attend. HDM is ecstatic and leaves to call Hoon Dong.

Ki Tae is done with work. He’s still in a bad mood. Hoon Dong runs into him on the sidewalk. He tells Ki Tae about the wine club meeting and Se Ah coming. He says that the moms are trying to get Jang Mi off of them. What should they do? Ki Tae points out that it’s not them but him. Hoon Dong makes a face. Ki Tae runs off. Hoon Dong yells after Ki Tae that he tried to play fair so he gave Ki Tae that information.

Back at work, Jang Mi is feeling worse. She begs Manager to let her go to the hospital. Manager asks if Jang Mi forget that taking care of herself is an important part of her job and then lets her go. Jang Mi is staggering and her phone rings. It’s Ki Tae. He asks where she is. She says that she’s the mall. She has to work late. He walks up behind her and flicks her on the head, saying that it’s lies. He grabs her wrist and tells her they need to go. She wants to know to where. He says that it’s urgent. He'll tell her on the way. She tries to protest that she’s also in a hurry.

Yeo Reum is cleaning up and discovers that Chef has eaten all of his creation. Chef’s now having stomach problems. Yeo Reum asks by Chef says he didn’t eat it. He threw it away. Chef pulls out the kimchi that Jang Mi gave Yeo Reum and tells Yeo Reum to pitch it. Yeo Reum says that sometimes there are customers who want kimchi. Chef can’t believe they’d be so brazen to look for kimchi at a European restaurant. He repeats the order for Yeo Reum to throw it out.

Yeo Reum starts to throw the kimchi away, as Chef rushes off to the restroom, and he thinks of how Jang Mi said that he can't throw things away easily. He thinks of when he was a boy. His mother told him that he should eat a lot and then Mom left, leaving Yeo Reum alone. He doesn’t throw out the kimchi.

Ki Tae and Jang Mi are now outside Bon Café. She's protesting that she doesn't want to. He’s begging her to just do him a favor. She protests that she already told him that she won't go to Hoon Dong's restaurant. He doesn’t understand why not. She goes there during the middle of the night. Jang Mi declares that she doesn't want to. Never. Mom is walking up the street toward them. Jang Mi tells him to stop bothering Mom.

Jang Mi asks Ki Tae if he knows what happened today. He doesn’t. She starts to say but Mom orders her to stop. Mom walks up and tells Jang Mi that she knew Jang Mi was light mouthed but Jang Mi is really too light mouthed. Mom looks at Ki Tae and asks why he brought Jang Mi there. Ki Tae responds that it's a place that important people to Mom are meeting. He’s going to introduce Jang Mi to them. She tells him not to do it today. Ki Tae asks if Mom’s rejecting Jang Mi right now. Is this going to be a recurrent question? I think this is the third time he’s asked it today… Mom replies that this is not the place for immature games. Dad’s boss’s wife will be there. If Jang Mi opens her light mouth in there accidentally, then it will be disastrous.

Speak of the devil. Boss’s wife arrives. She says hello to Ki Tae. Ki Tae respectfully bows and starts to introduce Jang Mi but Mom cuts him off, suggesting they go inside. They do, leaving Ki Tae and Jang Mi behind. Ki Tae turns to Jang Mi and declares that this is his chance. Inside there her existence is a like bomb. Mom will think: “If I leave this bomb here, I will be embarrassed. So I prefer Ki Tae to live by himself instead.” Jang Mi sighs. Ki Tae begs her to make Mom say it. Jang Mi starts to argue but her stomach gurgles again. He declares that this is the last time. He begs that it’s just one more time! Jang Mi says that she needs to pay a visit to the restroom. She looks absolutely green. Ki Tae eagerly helps her go in.

[ 2 Hours Before the Typhoon Invasion ]

Once inside, Ki Tae grabs Jang Mi’s arm and drags her over to the table where the wine club is sitting. Mom sees them and sighs. He gets their attention and declares that he wants to introduce his fiancée, Jang Mi. He doesn’t let her go to the bathroom. Oh, the torture! Reactions from everyone (Hoon Dong, Yeo Reum, HDM, Jang Mi) except Mom. Dad’s Boss’s wife (DBW) invites Jang Mi to sit down, but she turns down the offer, saying that she just came to say her greetings and leave. Mom chimes in that it would probably be best. If a stranger comes to their meeting, it may become a bit uncomfortable. And at that moment, Se Ah arrives. She asks if she should go as well. She adds that she was late because she was bringing some wine. Mom happily welcomes Se Ah. DBW recognizes Se Ah as the daughter of the Director of Kang Han Hospital? Of course, she is. So Jang Mi has to sit.

Yeo Reum pours the water and gives Jang Mi a look. She gives him a small smile. HDM comments how Ki Tae is sitting with his ex-girlfriend and current girlfriend on either side. DBW is surprise. Se Ah clarifies that Ki Tae and she were once an item, but now they’re just friends. Then HDM adds that Jang Mi is the girl that Hoon Dong ended things with recently. She adds that who would’ve known that Ki Tae would be using recycled goods. Jang Mi’s stomach gurgles painfully, so she gets up to use the restroom. Hoon Dong gets up and asks Yeo Reum to come back to the kitchen. Mom drinks her water and Ki Tae looks at her just waiting for her to give in. She doesn’t miss the look.

Back in the kitchen, Chef is having stomach issues. Yeo Reum asks why none of the food is ready. Chef starts yelling at Yeo Reum, but the food poisoning makes him rush off to the bathroom again.

Jang Mi is halfway down the stairs to the bathroom when Hoon Dong stops her. He apologizes for HDM being a jerk. She tells him that it’s fine, trying to get rid of him, but he won’t let her go. She shoves him to shake him loose. As she gets to the bathroom, Chef takes it over instead.

Hoon Dong shows up in the kitchen and tells Yeo Reum just to put something easy out. He sees the kimchi and gets an idea. He gets to work cooking: a cuatro cheese kimchi (Korean) pancake. Mom says that the kimchi's smell will probably overpower the wine's scent. One of the other ladies complains it’s because the café targets young people that they must be putting out fusion cuisines. The ladies don’t even want to try it.

Jang Mi gets up to use the restroom again and Yeo Reum is hurt because he thinks that she agreed with them. He goes back to the kitchen and throws the rest of the kimchi away. Mom really should try it. It’s her kimchi, after all.

Jang Mi is outside the bathroom, begging the Chef to come out, but he won’t. Upstairs, the ladies notice that Jang Mi hasn’t come back. DBW decides to try Yeo Reum’s dish. She loves it. She says that on a rainy day, a kimchi (Korean) pancake is the best. The stimulating kimchi hugs the four cheeses softly and it goes well together with the wine. She tells the ladies to try some. They do and love it, too.

Jang Mi leaves the bathroom door but before she can get upstairs, Yeo Reum grabs her wrist and drags her down the stairs. He asks her what she’s doing. Why is she acting shy in front of the ajummas? Jang Mi asks to talk about it later. He asks if she’s avoiding him… In case the ajummas see? She protests that it's not like that. She tries to get past him again but he blocks her and calls her a hypocrite. Last night, she cleaned up his cooking like a dog, but today she’s acting like a bird.

Jang Mi starts to protest that she’s feeling a little sick. He tells her that of course she feels like that. She’s making out with him at night and during the day she becomes Ki Tae’s fiancée. She tells him that there’s something he doesn't know. Yeo Reum asks if it’s money? Jang Mi tells him that Ki Tae and her are just acting. And right then, Se Ah walks up to overhear all of it. Jang Mi says that it’s a long story, but to put it simply, they’re acting like this because Ki Tae doesn't want to get married. Yeo Reum asks her why she’s going along with it. Jang Mi says that that’s a long story, too, but they both started it. She’s responsible for it, too.

Yeo Reum declares that he doesn’t understand. She asks him why he doesn’t. She likes him. Looks like he’s surprised by her declaration. She says that she has a lot of things she wants to tell him. She’ll tell him everything, he just needs to wait a bit. And I am shaking my head. This girl needs to wait until a man declares himself first.

Se Ah returns to the table, a smile on her lips. Ki Tae asks if she saw Jang Mi in the bathroom. Her reply? He’s so cute. Jang Mi limps up to the table and apologizes that she has to leave. Ki Tae asks if she’s leaving already? DBW thinks so, too. They haven’t even had wine together yet. Jang Mi smiles uncomfortably. HDM says that it’s so rude. Is it possibly because Jang Mi has issues with Mom? Jang Mi, pained, with a smile, agrees to have one glass. She sits.

Opening of the wine. Jang Mi’s stomach is getting worse and worse. She’s starting to have a hard time seeing. The sweating starts. HDM urges Jang Mi to have some of Yeo Reum’s scrumptious food. Jang Mi smiles and stuffs it in her mouth. Mom is horrified, but tries to hide it. DBW asks Mom whether she likes the food. Mom tries to cover her opinion up by complimenting DBW by trying to adopt DBW’s open mindedness. Lots of gurgling from Jang Mi’s stomach. And I’m really afraid that she’s about to spew. HDM chimes in that Mom has a very open mind. Mom’s someone who accepts someone with a criminal record as a potential daughter in law. Hoon Dong is mortified.

HDM tries to act like it just slipped out without her knowing. Ki Tae looks over at Jang Mi, who is really struggling. DBW asks what HDM is talking about. Jang Mi can’t take it anymore. She jumps to her feet, slapping the table as she does. She declares that she does have a criminal record! She’s a stalker with a criminal record who got fined 50,000 won. She’s finished introducing herself, and she’s finished eating and she’s done drinking, so please excuse her! She grabs her purse and runs out of the café.

As Jang Mi makes it to the street, the [ Typhoon Invasion! ] alarm goes off. She’s begging herself to hold it, but then it happens. She loses it in her pants. That’s when Ki Tae shows up and we’re back at the beginning of the episode. So *that’s* why she doesn’t want him to come near her. I feel so bad for her! So bad. She tries to hide her rear. He steps forward and she tells him not to come any closer. He asks if she’s okay and steps forward again. She’s terrified that he’s going to discover what happened, and tells him not to come closer. He swallows (sadly) and says her name.

Jang Mi tells Ki Tae that’s it’s all because of him. He replies, “Yeah. I’m sorry.” He tries to step closer and she yells at him to leave. She’s telling him to leave! He asks her what’s wrong – because it’s obvious that something’s wrong. The voice goes up a pitch ask she begs him to leave. The wind blows and he gets a whiff of what’s coming out of her pants. It’s potent. He takes a step backward, notices how she’s mortified, covering her bottom with her purse and starts to ask. She screams at him to not say anything!!!

Mom comes outside with a coat and puts it over Jang Mi’s shoulders. The length of it covers her bum. Mom tells Ki Tae not to follow them. Ki Tae can’t move. Se Ah comes out and asks him if this is what he wanted. He turns around and looks at Se Ah. She tells him that he’s so childish.

Up in Ki Tae’s office, Jang Mi has been able to change her pants. She comes out where Mom is waiting with the coat. Jang Mi thanks Mom and apologized. Mom replies that they can look at it like they’ve exchanged secrets with each other, so Jang Mi better not go around spreading useless rumors. Jang Mi replies that it’s like a poop that Mom made in her pants, right? Jang Mi says that events that exploded against her will. It’s scary and embarrassing and it hurts so much that you can’t look or say anything, right?

Mom, voice a little emotional, asks if Jang Mi is only happy when she says everything on her mind? Jang Mi assures Mom that she won't tell anyone. Mom leaves Ki Tae’s office.

Ki Tae arrives and asks what Jang Mi and Mom talked about. Jang Mi replies that they need to stop now. She told Yeo Reum that she likes him.

Outside the restaurant, DBW is leaving. Mom asks if she’s leaving so soon. DBW smiles at Mom and says that she saw another side of Mom today. Mom declares that she’s really embarrassed and sorry. DBW declares that she was relieved because of it. Mom looked like the type of person who wouldn’t use the toilets in the café. DBW declares that those types of people scare her because it always feels like they’re hiding something. DBW is so happy that Mom didn’t choose a robotic woman just like Mom to be her daughter-in-law. But instead, Jang Mi is so down-to-earth. Mom uneasily replies, “Yes.”

DBW declares that whatever situation or story there was (with Jang Mi), it seems like Mom knows how to understand and forgive people. DBW declares that she’s seen Mom in a different light. And she likes what she sees. DBW happily shakes Mom’s hand goodbye. Her girlfriends are also smiling pleasantly at Mom.

Hoon Dong has gone to a bar and is trying to eat food off the table without picking it up with his fingers or a utensil. Guess who shows up? Hyun Hee. Hyun Hee walks up and asks ‘Oppa’ what’s wrong with him. Is he okay? A drunk Hoon Dong apologizes for calling Hyun Hee out of the blue, but he feels like he can talk to her about everything.

Jang Mi is walking with Ki Tae behind her. His face says that he does not want their ‘engagement’ to be off. Jang Mi declares that she thinks she can tell Yeo Reum everything. Ki Tae replies that that meant she had to tell him everything, including their relationship! Jang Mi replies that they are going to date for real so she can't keep secrets. She can't sacrifice her love life because of him any longer. Ki Tae sighs. He asks her if she’s going to tell Yeo Reum about her poop accident. Jang Mi protests that it was only a little bit! Ki Tae asks if he should tell Yeo Reum instead.

Ki Tae starts walking like he’s going to spill the poop. He declares that it’s so dirty! Jang Mi is running after him, begging him to keep quiet. But then… they come across Se Ah and Yeo Reum talking. She’s got another envelope of money for Yeo Reum and she tells Yeo Reum that now she understands what Ki Tae is up to. She tells him that he’s worked hard. He looks at the envelope and smiles. Jang Mi looks crushed and Ki Tae can’t believe that Jang Mi told Yeo Reum!

Thoughts

When I think about this episode, one of the first things that strikes me is Mom's character. I really don't get what she's thinking. I believe that by the end of this, she's actually going to lilke jmi, but it's going to be a rocky road. But until then, I really don't get why she's doing what she does. Dad stays out all night long and she just wordlessly takes his laundry and gives him his freshly ironed clothes. Plus, she's hiding from Mistress who is shameless in this affair that she's having. I do not get Mom's choices. She puts up with his mother and sister, who don't treat her very well at all. Would it really be that terrible to be divorced?

It's interesting that Ki Tae's plan actually backfired. Jang Mi scored points with DBW instead of being the bomb that Mom is supposed to dread.

We got insight into Yeo Reum's character and even though he acts superficial, I think that he is really a deep guy who is afraid to show it. And he truly does like Jang Mi because she is such a kind person and gets the real him. I don't think he kissed her, just to gain her trust as part of an agenda. I think he did it because he likes her. I'm predicting that he's going to end up Bon Cafe's chef, because all the ladies LOVED his cooking, once they tried it.

Do not like HDM. She's the type of woman who really gets on my nerves. Has nothing better to do than be a busy-body, but at the same time, will say backhanded comments and jabs just to cut someone else down. I really hate women like that.

The stuff where Jang Mi and Ki Tae were taking pictures was really cute, especially once they really started having fun. They really looked comfortable together. I don't think Ki Tae's ever had fun like that with a woman before. His date with Se Ah, he didn't look like he was having fun at all. But he had so much fun with Jang Mi that he was looking at the pictures afterward and laughing some more. That is, until, he realized what he was doing. I wonder how many episodes more it's going to take for him to realize that he honestly likes her. And Jang Mi -- she really needs to wait for a man to declare himself first. This is the second time where she's been the one to say it first. And it's so not going to work out when you do it that way. Like Ki Tae said, if the guy likes you, you will know it, so if it's indifferent, it means that he doesn't. Jang Mi needs to wait for someone to pursue her, rather than her being the one to make it happen.

Still don't like Hyun Hee.
