Marriage Not Dating Episode 12 Recap

The episode with Ki Tae chasing after Jang Mi somewhere outside. They’re both dressed up, but I can’t tell why. He calls her name and she stops. He wills her to turn around and she does. He stares at her, not knowing what to say.

♬ Even if it's the first time, Even if I am born again ♬

They awkwardly try to start talking at the same time.

♬ It can't be only that kind of person ♬

Awkward pause and they tell each other to go first. Come on, Ki Tae! Be the man!

♫ To my sad life ♫

Ki Tae winces and tells her to go first.

♫ The person who gave warmth ♫
♫ You are someone I'm grateful for. ♫

They just look at each other.

♫ For that kind of person, I give my heart, ♫
♫ I'm happy no matter how much it hurts ♫

And Ki Tae’s face looked like he was about to propose. For reals.

[ Episode 12: Will sincerity be understood? ]

Back to where the last episode left off. Se Ah declares that she told Mom everything. And I still want to punch her. This is just selfish and evil. And manipulative. When is she going to work out that being like that is not going to get her Ki Tae? She announces that the show has ended. Ki Tae can’t believe she’s telling the truth. Did she really tell Mom everything? Se Ah nods and ‘apologizes.’ She says it was the only way to stop him.

Ki Tae yells her name, pissed, in a tone that says that she’s gone too far. She tells him that they should go back to the very beginning, turn back time. Ki Tae sighs with disbelief and looks away. Se Ah – like she’s being totally rational and this is actually his fault – says that he should have told her three years ago why he wanted to stay alone… Ki Tae’s starting to get tears in his eyes and he’s shaking his head. Because he knows how devastating this is going to be to *everything.* Se Ah says that he should have said the reason why he hates marriage... So it's his fault then... Ki Tae sighs, dropping his head, and shakes it. Like he can’t believe that it’s coming back to haunt him, that night, again.

Se Ah says that she didn't know that he had that kind of pain. He looks at her. And I’m thinking that *that* is the reason why she’s totally wrong for him, that she couldn’t see his pain, even though it was right there. She doesn’t know him at all, not the real him. He looks up and his eyes are glassy. Se Ah says that she thought about it over and over again. What exactly was the reason... She’s starting to almost sound like she’s pleading.

Ki Tae sighs and says that she found marriage to be cumbersome too, saying it was unnecessary. She says back that it was only because it was the best way to protect herself! So it’s his fault that you’re fake? She says that she wanted to stay by his side, even if it was just as friends. He looks at her. And I’m wearing the same expression, one of distaste.

She walks forward and tells him to tell her his story, and she will listen. Why would he do that? Give you more ammunition? You’ve just proved yourself completely untrustworthy. Ki Tae’s not looking at her. He looks like he can’t believe she’s saying this. And neither can I. She says that she will console him. Ki Tae rubs his head, frustrated. Se Ah steps into the heart, with Ki Tae leaning away from her, and says that they should get married. And there are tears in her eyes.

She’s standing there with a smile on her face. A coaxing smile. I am flabbergasted.

Ki Tae looks at her a moment – with disbelief – and then laughs bitterly. He looks away, then down and asks how the likes of them become so ugly like this? He says that it was nice when they had some distance between them. They didn't have to see each other at their worst. Se Ah protests that she threw away her pride and everything else for him. He cuts her off and asks if she really had to go this far. She already has everything. What else does she want?

Se Ah replies that she’s a person, too. She also has a thing called sincerity in her. She looks like she’s about to cry. Ki Tae is not swayed. He indignantly asks whether, because her feelings are sincere, it means that it doesn't matter what she does to other people? She protests, asking how bad it had to be that she had to resort to spilling everything to Mom. She did everything she could! No matter what she does, he only sees Joo Jang Mi! She screams at him, asking what she’s supposed to do then?!

Ki Tae sighs, drained, and tells Se Ah not to ever show up in front of him again. Se Ah can’t believe he just said that. She wants to weep but doesn’t want to cry in front of him. She slowly walks out the rose-aisle.

♬ For a long time ♬
♬ I only have cried ♬
♬ I long for you today as well ♬

Then she starts to run, getting out of the apartment as fast as she can. Ki Tae blinks, looking like he’s going to cry.

♬ Even if I call out so many times that I miss you ♬

Switch to Yeo Reum hugging Jang Mi. She shoves him off of her. She can’t believe he just did that.

♬ Do you think of me too even just once ♬

He looks in Mom’s direction and Jang Mi sees her. Mom’s face is cold. Really cold.

♬ I just want you to love me. Will love come? ♬

Jang Mi is horrified.

♬ Tell me that you love me ♬

She says Mom’s name.

♬ If you and I feel the same ♬

Mom’s jaw hardens. Yeo Reum looks away, knowing what he’s just done. Man, this time through, it looked like he *knew* Mom was coming. Dirty pool.

♬ If you and I feel the same ♬
♬ Even if I long for you, long for you, but I couldn't have you ♬

Mom turns around and walks away. Jang Mi knows she can’t run after her.

♬ Even if I long for you, long for you, but I couldn't have you ♬
♬ Even though I know ♬
♬ I still look for you like a fool ♬

She looks at Yeo Reum and he can’t meet her eyes.

♬ Even if I anxiously call out your name ♬

She can’t believe that he did that on purpose. He doesn’t answer but his face says yes. She shakes her head in disbelief. I would have slapped him.

♬ Can we still meet again just like the old times ♬

She asks why he did that. She yells at him, “Why the hell did you do it?” Still not looking at her, she says it’s because he likes her.

♬ I can live without you, ♬

He looks at her. Finally.

♬ Would that day come, ♬
♬ Tell me that you love me, ♬

She shakes her head, not believing he just said that. She walks away.

♬ If you and I feel the same ♬

He kicks himself for being a jerk, knowing that he’s blown it, that his profession of love means nothing now.

♬ Even if I long for you, long for you ♬
♬ I couldn't have you ♬

Ki Tae is on the phone, calling someone.

♬ Even though I know ♬
♬ I still look for you like a fool ♬

He’s trying to reach Jang Mi. Aw, he still wants to propose. She looks at the phone, swallows and answers it. Ki Tae indignantly asks her why she wasn’t answering her phone! She sadly says she’s sorry. She ruined it all. He doesn’t understand. She says that because of her, Mom knows everything. She’s starting to cry. With desperation at what she might be thinking, he tells her that it's not her fault. He asks to talk in person. Where is she? She tells him ‘later’ and says that she feels so badly about what happened that she can't see his face right now. Ki Tae takes off running.

Jang Mi arrives at the Chicken Shack. Appa asks why Son-in-law Gong didn’t come. She says that she has something to tell Appa about Ki Tae. She asks where Oma is. Oh, no. Appa says that Oma went to Mom’s house. Mom had called, asking to see Oma urgently. Oma brought some wedding gifts with her, too. Jang Mi says, “No…” and Appa doesn’t get what her problem is. He says that even though they refuse to accept the wedding gifts, he and Oma should show them at least the minimum amount of our sincerity. Are they just supposed to wash their mouths of it? A great way of asking if they’re supposed to do nothing. Jang Mi yells, “No!” and takes off running.

Oma has just gotten to the house, lugging the wedding quilt. Aunt and Halmeoni are happy to see her and help with the quilt. Halmeoni says that Oma must have suffered bringing that big thing with her. Oma replies that it’s because she is just so thankful that the in-laws are looking out for Jang Mi. Halmeoni smiles sincerely – because she likes Oma – and asks Oma to sit. Aunt says that Mom just came back, so she's washing up. She invites Oma to please sit for a while.

Ki Tae arrives at the Chicken Shack. Appa wonders why Son-in-law Gong came separately? He asks where Jang Mi is and Appa says that Jang Mi left a little while ago. Ki Tae is understandably uncomfortable, standing there talking to Appa, because he knows that the stuff is about to hit the fan. Appa asks if they had a fight and advises Ki Tae to just take it and let it go. They shouldn’t be fighting anyway. Appa mentions about Oma and the gifts. Ki Tae freak face. He bows and drives off. Appa wonders what’s up with both of those kids.

Mom is sitting on her bed, thinking about Yeo Reum hugging Jang Mi. Aunt asks if Mom has heard anything she just said. In-law has been waiting for Mom downstairs for a while now. Oma is looking at her teacup, impressed with Mom’s shopping skills. Halmeoni smiles. Mom enters. Oma stands and greets her. Mom is cold. She says nothing when Aunt points out the marriage quilt. Finally, Mom coldly says that Oma’s situation has become quite unfortunate. Oma doesn’t know what she’s getting at. Mom says that Oma has dreamed a pointless dream. Oma still doesn’t follow.

Halmeoni starts to ask Mom what she’s doing when Jang Mi arrives. Mom asks Jang Mi how she dares to come there? Oma can’t believe that Mom just said that. Did Jang Mi do something wrong? Halmeoni knows that it’s about to hit the fan. Mom asks Jang Mi if she wants tell her or should Mom. Jang Mi goes to stand by Oma and apologizes. She says that she’ll escort Oma and go.

Oma’s not going to leave that easily, unfortunately. She stops and tells Mom that she doesn't know what Jang Mi did wrong, but this is just too much. Was what Mom so urgently needed to tell her something like this? Jang Mi pleads with Oma to just go. She’ll tell Oma outside. Oma shushes her. Mom coldly declares that she cannot do this marriage. She won't have this marriage. Oma wants to know why. Mom says that it's not her but Jang Mi and Ki Tae. From the start they had no intention of marrying. Halmeoni exhales pained. Mom says that her punk of a son, wanting to avoid the pressure to get married, put on a show to make Mom give up.

Aunt protests that they confirmed that it was true. Halmeoni clears her throat. Mom declares that they were all completely deceived. Oma shakes her head and says that it doesn't make sense. How could it be? Why would Son-in-law Gong do such a thing? Is Mom sure that she’s not mistaken? She asks Jang Mi to tell her whether Mom is mistaken. Jang Mi goes down on her knees, with Halmeoni cringing, and starts to cry. She can barely whisper that she’s sorry. Oma, stunned, asks Jang Mi why.

Halmeoni breathes out and stands. She goes over to stand by a crying Jang Mi. She says that even if Ki Tae and Jang Mi's start may have been acting, she doesn't think that they've come this far out of spite. Mom looks at Halmeoni and asks her if she knew. Halmeoni replies that because she had my own thoughts– Mom cuts her off and says that Halmeoni must have had so much fun. Jang Mi, that child, was playing around, twisting Mom around her finger.

Oma asks what Jang Mi what she’s done. Halmeoni tells Mom that she knows full well, since she’s been watching them all this time, with what kind of heart did Jang Mi treat her? Good point, which Mom doesn’t want to hear. Mom can’t believe that Halmeoni is really telling Mom to accept Jang Mi as her daughter-in-law? A girl that was embraced by another man right in front of her eyes?

Oma has to sit. She asks Jang Mi about her having another man, too. Jang Mi doesn’t answer, just cries. Halmeoni protests that Mom must have seen wrong! Jang Mi can only gasp that she’s sorry. She’s really sorry. Halmeoni protests that that can't be right! Aunt is appalled.

Mom smiles and nastily tells Oma that her daughter really has a talent for expertly bewitching people's hearts. Lots of sighing at that one. Oma grabs Jang Mi’s arm and says they should go. Mom reminds Oma about the wedding blanket. Won’t she take it with her? Oma angrily grabs it, but loses her balance and falls to the floor. When Jang Mi tries to help, she shoves Jang Mi away. Oma starts to drag it away. Jang Mi looks at Aunt and Halmeoni and deeply bows a respectful goodbye. Then she follows Mom out.

Mom will not let Jang Mi carry the blanket. Ki Tae drives up. He gets out of the car, desperate, and calls Oma ‘Mother-in-law.’ She screams at him that he dares to let the words Mother-in-law come out of his mouth!!! She shoves the blanket at him. Oma’s starting to cry as she tells Ki Tae that they shouldn’t see each other ever again. He shouldn’t even linger near her Jang Mi! Oma shoves past him and walks away. Ki Tae tries to beg Oma to listen to what he has to say. Jang Mi tells him that Oma isn’t going to listen to anything right now. He should just go. Then she walks away, too. Ki Tae drops the blanket, defeated.

Halmeoni is scolding Mom for how she treated Oma. What sins does Oma have? Halmeoni says that Mom probably did it to ruin any of Oma’s affection for Jang Mi, too. Probably. Ki Tae arrives and starts to make a b-line for Mom. Halmeoni grabs him and whispers that he should, for now, get down on his knees and beg earnestly. Aunt agrees. He shouldn’t say anything useless to provoke Mom.

Ki Tae walks over to Mom and doesn’t take their advice. Instead he asks Mom what she did to Oma? Did she humiliate Oma greatly? Aunt mutters that Ki Tae is an idiot. Mom asks if he’s going to keep acting until the end? Ki Tae replies that he has become sincere towards Jang Mi. Halmeoni looks up at him, surprised. And happy because she was right. Mom muses that Jang Mi really is something. She fooled even him? He doesn’t get what she’s talking about. He looks at Aunt who says, “A man.” He asks Mom if she saw Jang Mi with Yeo Reum? Ki Tae knows the man’s name. That should be a clue. But Mom is too hurt to be rational right now.

Mom declares that her feeling was right from the start. Ki Tae starts to declares that Yeo Reum was fling. He stops. He’s not going to continue to lie. He asks why Mom’s upset. Why does it matter? In their house, there's someone who has openly two timed his entire life?! Mom gets up and slaps him hard across the face. Ki Tae can’t believe she slapped him. Mom looks like she’s shocked and regrets it, too, but then she hardens her face. Aunt tells Ki Tae that she told him not to provoke Mom. Wow, there is a really big red welt sprouting on Ki Tae’s face. Mom tells Ki Tae to get out. Don't get married. She tells him that he can live alone as he wishes. She doesn't need any of them. She yells for Ki Tae to get out right now and walks away.

Jang Mi is at home, getting read the riot act. Appa shakes his head in disbelief. Oma is now on her bed, listening to Appa ask what this bullshit story is. He yells, upset at all the glasses of makgeolli (rice wine) he poured for Ki Tae?! Ki Tae so brazenly playacted the role of the son-in-law as he drank down all the glasses of makgeolli! And in his house, no less! Even borrowing and wearing his clothes! Even sleeping in his daughter's—! Oma starts to cry. Appa screams that Jang Mi needs to bring Ki Tae there right now!

Ki Tae is downstairs. He calls Jang Mi. She hides that it’s him calling but Appa’s not fooled. Appa grabs the phone and answers. What is Ki Tae?! Who is Ki Tae to play around with his daughter?! Ki Tae apologizes. He says that he’s outside the store right now. He’ll come see Appa at the house. Appa yells back that Ki Tae is going to dare to come to his house?! He tells Ki Tae that he’ll go there so Ki Tae should stay still there without moving a muscle. Appa declares that he is going to half kill Ki Tae tonight!

Appa throws down the phone and grabs a baseball bat. Jang Mi grabs him, begging him to stop. Appa tells her that he’s not going to leave Ki Tae alone tonight! Jang Mi protests that it’s not Ki Tae’s fault! She asked Ki Tae to continue with it. She did. Appa can’t believe it. What did Ki Tae tempt her with that she’d do that because of that kind of punk?! Did he give Jang Mi money or something?! Appa declares that he sees now. Even the plastic surgery he gave Oma was a calculation in that punk's head! Appa rants what a terrible bastard Ki Tae is. Jang Mi doesn't know how highly he thought of Ki Tae!

Appa tries to go again and Jang Mi wraps both her arms around his waist to stop him. She cries out that it was because Appa and Oma liked him so much. She couldn't tell them the truth. Appa shoves her off. He doesn’t want to be swayed. He asks her if she’s a fool?! Did she think that it wouldn't come to destruction like this? Does she not have any thoughts?! Jang Mi replies that even if it was only for a moment, she wanted it to last. Two people who never say one word to each another were so excited that they were talking. They looked in each others’ faces and even laughed. It was the first time they did that. Appa sighs because that cut him. Jang Mi starts to cry. Oma cries too. Appa drops the bat and Jang Mi weeps. Appa pulls Jang Mi into a hug to comfort her.

Ki Tae just stands outside the Chicken Shack and waits. I wonder how long he waited before he went home.

Hyun Hee and Hoon Dong are at the hospital. Hoon Dong covers his face with his hands. He sighs. She asks him if he wants to see the baby. He looks at her but doesn’t say anything. She says okay and tells him to wait there. Hyun Hee walks into the exam room and the door closes, with Hyun Hee sadly looking at him. Hyun Hee leans back into the chair. In the waiting room, Hoon Dong looks at a picture of a fetus. He can’t look at it and covers his face in his hand.

The doctor is performing an ultrasound. It’s the sound of the baby's heartbeat. As she listens to it, Hyun Hee is touched. She asks if that is the sound of their baby's heartbeat? Hoon Dong is squirming in the waiting room. Hyun Hee asks if it could be a little louder. Hoon Dong gets up to leave, but that added volume gets to him. He shuts the door and buts his ear to the door of the exam room door. He’s hearing his baby’s heart. Hyun Hee sadly puts her hand on her belly and says. “You’re really there, huh?” Hoon Dong opens the door to see Hyun Hee cry as she tells Myungpoomie that she’s sorry that she’s a knockoff.

Hoon Dong comes in the room. His eyes are misty and he tells her they should go. Downstairs, he’s dragging her as she protests. He turns around and asks about what she told him back at the temple, about the baby being a gift to her. She said that she'd cherish it by herself so now how could she give up so easily? Hyun Hee says that she’ll be honest. She didn't have a plan to abort the baby at all. She says that she heard that they best way to get through to a scaredy-cat coward loser like him is to let him hear the baby's beating heart. He’s speechless that she lied. She smiles at him because it worked.

Hoon Dong asks if she’s really Hyun Hee. She is honest again and says that she’s sorry, but this is the real her. The girl who used her brain to make up a ridiculous lie in order to hold on to Oppa. It’s for him to decide if he's really okay with that. Hoon Dong still can’t say anything. She adds that she would make the same choice, even if they were to go back to the beginning. If it were that night again, she would have chosen him.

That seems to have got him, because we switch to HDM dragging Hoon Dong out of the house in his undies again. He’s got pictures of the ultrasound that he’s trying to use to sway HDM. HDM declares that she will never acknowledge it without a DNA test. Hoon Dong says that he heard the baby’s heart beat. They communicated heart to heart. He’s sure that it's his baby. HDM tells him to shut up. As she walks back up the steps he shouts up at her that he’s going to get married! His shorts have an eagle on them. I shake my head. Hyun Hee walks up and wordlessly hands Hoon Dong a shirt. He wordlessly puts the clothes on.

Jang Mi exits her bedroom in the morning to find Oma and Appa home. Oma’s cooked breakfast. Oma tells them to sit. She asks Jang Mi and Appa why they look so dumbfounded. Jang Mi and Appa look at her and he wordlessly tells Jang Mi to eat. Jang Mi asks if Oma is okay. Oma tells her that she should ask anything, just eat. Jang Mi apologizes again. Oma tells her that it’s okay, so she should stop it. Just like Jang Mi said, it's their fault. How little she must have seen her parents getting along as she grew up... How much she you have wanted to see that... Oma says to Appa that they didn't raise their daughter well. It’s all their fault. Appa nods his agreement. Oma looks at Appa and says they should break up. Appa stops chewing.

Oma grabs the divorce papers and the stamps. Jang Mi moans about Oma doing this again. Oma stamps the paper. She hands the paper to Appa wordlessly and goes into her room, shutting the door behind her. Jang Mi calls through the door that she did wrong. She’s sorry. Oma shouldn’t be like this. Appa goes back to eating. She tries to get him to come and talk to Oma.

Bon Café. Yeo Reum has just told Hoon Dong that he’s quitting. Hoon Dong wants to know why. Yeo Reum said that it’s so he can make money. He needs to earn a lot of money. Hoon Dong scold Yeo Reum, telling him that he should have just asked for a raise. How much does he want? Yeo Reum says that he’s working near a person that makes him uncomfortable to run into... It's hard. Hoon Dong repeats that, with shocked looks from the other staff, including Chef. Hoon Dong asks if there’s any chance that it’s him. Yeo Reum laughs. And internally shakes him head. Yeo Reum thanks Hoon Dong for the job. He gets up and Hoon Dong follows Yeo Reum, yells at him about whose permission he has to quit. Does Yeo Reum know how nice Hoon Dong treated him? Like a real younger brother?!

Yeo Reum tells Hoon Dong that even if he doesn’t see it now, he’s grateful. Hoon Dong hops up onto the counter – so he can be eye-to-eye with Yeo Reum, who is taking off his apron. Hoon Dong asks Yeo Reum how he can have such a one-sided attitude? He needs to work until Hoon Dong finds someone else. Yeo Reum smiles and lays the apron across Hoon Dong’s lap. Hoon Dong looks at it and sadly looks up at Yeo Reum. Yeo Reum says that he’ll come visit often. Hoon Dong can’t believe that Yeo Reum’s really quitting. Yeo Reum bows respectfully and goes. Hoon Dong yells at him not to go and then starts yelling that Yeo Reum can’t quit because he’s fired!

Hoon Dong stops when HDM walks in. She asks if he really has to get married. Hoon Dong tells her they should go talk at home. He’s the president here and there are people watching. HDM asks him who the president is. It’s not him, because he’s fired! Hoon Dong gets puppy dog eyes.

Jang Mi’s just heard that *she’s* fired. Not surprised. Manager says that she can't do anything about it. Someone who does customer service gets into a hair-grabbing fight with a customer. It’s something they cannot have there. Jang Mi protests that it was just once. Manager’s going to fire her when she’s worked there for more than five years because of one mistake? Manager says that the problem is, that it happened in front of the senior manager of the head office. Jang Mi says she worked really hard. Manager responds that it's not like her work attitude was that much on the faithful side either. She left her post because of personal issues and had guests coming and going. It wasn't only once or twice. Manager says sorry and goes.

Hoon Dong is visiting Hyun Hee at work and entertaining all the ladies. Hyun Hee is happy to see her and Hoon Dong is smiling, too. Jang Mi asks what Hoon Dong is doing there. Hyun Hee declares that she refreshingly resigned today. Hoon Dong Oppa is treating them to her sending-off party. I’m wondering where he’s getting the money since HDM just fired him. Hoon Dong repeats the invitation. She accepts and congratulates them. This turned out well! One of the girls tells Hyun Hee that her groom is cool! Hoon Dong replies that he’s just a cut above normal! Hoon Dong always was a charmer with the ladies. Jang Mi stops smiling and sadly sighs. She walks away, which Hoon Dong notices.

Hoon Dong finds Jang Mi on a bench, looking sad. He sits and says that he knew she'd be there. He thinks she’s upset because Hyun Hee’s getting the marriage that she once dreamed of. She woodenly says that it’s not like that. Hoon Dong says that it’s written all over her face. Dully, she asks him if he didn't hear the story from Ki Tae? Nope. She says they got caught by the elders. Hoon Dong is shocked and worried for them. Jang Mi says that it was completely shattered. She starts to silently cry.

Hoon Dong asks why she’s crying since she has Yeo Reum. Ki Tae is the one who is probably crying right now. She looks at Hoon Dong. Hoon Dong says that Ki Tae really likes her. He told Hoon Dong not to tell her, but what do should Hoon Dong do? He has loose lips. Shocked, she says that it doesn't make sense... How could he treat her like that if he likes her? Hoon Dong declares that Ki Tae is an elementary school kid who bothers the person he likes. It's because he wants to be with her and play with her. She starts to cry as she processes it. And how messed up everything is.

Jang Mi really starts to sob. Hoon Dong asks why she’s crying even more? She slaps him and yells that he shouldn't have told her. If he hadn't, she would have forgotten about Ki Tae more easily! She sobs some more and covers her face with his hands. Hoon Dong realizes that Jang Mi really likes Ki Tae. He asks what the problem is. Exactly. Yes, it’s messed up and you have angry parents right now, but that can be worked through and forgiven. He says that Jang Mi is sincere and Ki Tae is also sincere. She sobs that it’s too late. She showed Mom something Mom shouldn't see. She can't turn it back now. And they haven’t talked, because she doesn’t know that it’s all because of Se Ah.

Jang Mi says that she can't make Ki Tae turn his back on Mom any more. Hoon Dong tries to argue, saying they have feelings! But Jang Mi is resolute. She tells Hoon Dong to never tell Ki Tae about her feelings. She says that before her feelings deepen, she will get rid of them. That’s what’s best for everyone. Hoon Dong sighs and asks why the day is so unsettling? He mentions Yeo Reum quitting. Hoon Dong says that he’s worried about Ki Tae. He’s also worried Yeo Reum. He’s worried about Jang Mi, too. She tells him not to worry about her. He should go see Hyun Hee.

Hoon Dong says that they’re both pitiful. She should have lived more happily. She asks him what nonsense he’s spouting? He shouldn’t try to say that he’s unhappy. Hoon Dong says that HDM wants to cut him off from the family. He hasn’t told Hyun Hee but he got fired from the restaurant. Jang Mi says that she also got fired today from the department store. Hoon Dong starts to whimper that he has a wife and a child that he will have to support. Jang Mi whimpers that at least he has someone by his side. Hoon Dong cries that HDM said she won't come to the wedding. Jang Mi cries that Oma says she's getting divorced.

They cry and Hoon Dong starts slapping Jang Mi on the back. He asks why her life is like this. If she threw him away, she should be living well! It’s her turn to slap him as she yells at him to get your head straight and live properly! He’s a father now. He needs to stop crying! Hoon Dong puts his hands over his ears and sobs. Jang Mi squeaks that his crying is making her keep crying. They hug each other. Hoon Dong yells that he’s the child's father. How can he raise a kid? He wants to spend all his money on himself! Heh. At least he's real with himself. It starts to rain so they go inside.

Ki Tae is calling Jang Mi but the phone just rings. He woodenly puts down the phone. He asks her if she’s really not going to pick up. Jang Mi looks around at her job, for the last time. She thinks that there were many times that she looked and touched. But never once has it been hers. She softly says goodbye to the bags. Hyun Hee tells her to hurry up and come on. She covers the display case. She says that now she needs to find her real place.

Ki Tae walks up to his building and runs into a squatting Jang Mi. He’s surprised, happy, and then uncomfortable. She looks up at him. He scolds that she wasn’t picking up the phone so he thought her push-pull skills (playing hard to get) had improved. Instead she’s waiting in front of his house? He asks why she’s outside instead of inside, when she used to go in and out like it was her own house. She doesn’t say anything. He’s done being annoyed. With a smile on his face, he leans down and offers his hand, saying that they should go inside. Jang Mi stands on her own instead.

She says that they can't do that anymore. There is no reason to do that anymore. Ki Tae’s still holding out his hand. He wiggles it, not knowing what to do with it. He looks away and clears his throat. Jang Mi says that she shouldn't have done it from the beginning. She shouldn't have crossed the line when he said not to. When he wanted to be alone, she should have let him be by himself. But you broke him and he’s not going to be able to be fixed. He needs you around now. She stoically says that if she could return things to the way they were before, she would. She regrets it. She is making me want to cry. He tells her not to regret it. Because he loves her!

Jang Mi says that it gave their parents a big scar. Ki Tae says that from now on, their parents don't matter. I get what he means, but Jang Mi doesn’t. She can’t believe that he said they don't matter. He says her name and swallows. Taking a big breath, he starts to tell her that he likes her. He pauses before he can say it, afraid to say it. She knows what he’s going to say so when he starts again, she tells him that he really is the worst. He looks like she just slapped him. Sternly she asks how could he just think about himself in this situation? Doesn’t he know how hurt Mom is, how big a wound she has? Because of her husband’s infidelity, she's been heartsick her entire life. And in front of Mom, she was in the arms of Yeo Reum. Does he get it now, what they’ve done? Ki Tae gets that she doesn’t know.

Ki Tae asks her to go inside and talk. He reaches up to escort her, but she pushes his arm away. She asks him if staying at home by himself something that he wished for? His wish has come true. He says her name in protest. She says that it’s really over, now. Coming to his house and seeing him, too. He looks at her, wanting her to stop saying this. She turns and walks away. He watches her go, heartbroken.

Jang Mi gets home to the house in shambles, her parents screaming at each other. They’re arguing over who is going to leave. She yells at them, asking what they’re doing! Dad says the house and store are all his. Oma yells that she’ll see Appa in court! She grabs her suitcase and leaves. Appa tells Jang Mi that he’ll be at the store for the time being. So Jang Mi is really alone. She feels just like that little five year-old girl who got left and almost died.

♬ For a long time, ♬
♬ I only cried and even today, ♬
♬ I am afraid, ♬
♬ It was so hard then, ♬
♬ Those words, comforting me while looking at me ♬

She pulls out her phone to start to text Ki Tae and stops.

♬ Those words, ♬
♬ I think about the memories with you for a long time. ♬

She asks herself what she’s doing? She’s not a five-year-old child anymore.

♬ When I opened my eyes, I only saw the back of you, ♬

Ki Tae is sitting home alone, miserable and in the dark.

♬ By chance, is this a dream? ♬
♬ Am I still living in those days ♬
♬ that we see each other ♬

Jang Mi goes and climbs in bed, drained.

♬ I just want you to love me. Will love come? ♬
♬ Tell me that you love me. You also feel the same as me. ♬

She cries herself to sleep.

♬ Even though I hope again and again, I can't have you. ♬
♬ Even though I know, I look for you like a fool. ♬

Morning. Ki Tae’s family is sitting in the living room as Mom peels an apple. Halmeoni says the house seems empty. Aunt agrees. It’s boring. Mom says that it’s quiet. It's good. Dad doesn’t say anything. Halmeoni wonders how Ki Tae is doing. Aunt replies that it’s the same for the past week. Home, then clinic, and home, then clinic. Mom says that everything is back in its proper place. Halmeoni clears her throat. Dad sighs. Aunt wonders if Dad had some subtly developed affection for Jang Mi.

Aunt yells Oppa at Dad to get his attention. She asks what he’s thinking so deeply about. He wonders if, because of the incident at the department store, there were any rumors circulating? Halmeoni makes a disgusted face at Dad. You birthed him. Giving a disgusted grunt, she gets up and leaves. Aunt leaves, too. He asks Mom if he did something wrong. Mom tells him that he should sleep at home from now on. He said that he’s afraid of the rumors. Mom tells him that until it quiets down, he shouldn’t go to that woman's house. Mom gets up and takes the apple with her. Dad can’t believe his life!

Ki Tae arrives home and switches on the light. He looks at his empty apartment. He asks, “You came again?” He turns around with a smile, expecting Jang Mi to walk in. She doesn’t.

Ki Tae is cleaning the fish tank. Jang Mi pops up, saying hi to Nemo.

♬ Stay with me ♬
♬ At the blowing scent that makes me feel good, ♬

Ki Tae yells in protest at the finger prints she’s leaving, smiling as he scrubs them away.

♬ Without knowing (falling into you), ♬

He turns to look at Jang Mi but she’s gone. His disappointed face is making me so sad.

♬ What’s there to think about? ♬

Ki Tae sighs defeated.

♬ Wanna walk together now? (boy) ♬

Ki Tae sits down to eat a pot of ramen.

♬ You know but pretend you don’t, I fall in love ♬
♬ Wanna take the subway or walking in the rain ♬

Jang Mi pops up, sticking a fork in the pot and declaring that she really likes ramen! She takes a bite and declares that it’s delicious. He looks at her and, trying not to smile, he says that he told her not to cross the line, didn't he? She stops chewing, looks at him and chuckles. He goes to poke her on the head, which makes her disappear. His face is killing me.

♬ We are already walking ♬
♬ I didn’t want anything (love lane) ♬

He drops his chopsticks, dejected.

He tries to take a bath.

♬ I’m not even dreaming but why am I so nervous? ♬

She calls his name.

♬ You know but pretend you don’t, I fall in love ♬

He stands and she runs up and hugs him.

♬ Wanna take the subway or walking in the rain ♬
♬ Between the clouds, as if it’s slippery and slowly ♬

He lets himself hug her back.

♬ We are already walking ♬

Slowly he realizes that she’s not really there. This is really depressing me.

♬ Walking in that lane ♬

He sadly looks at himself in the mirror.

Switch to Ki Tae trying to sleep, but can’t. He sits up, breathing heavily. He asks why he’s so uncomfortable in his apartment.

Switch to a jjimjilbang. Ki Tae tries sleeping there. And I am cracking up, because it’s the exact opposite of home, full of people. He can’t get comfortable. Then he runs into Hoon Dong – who has a Princess Leia towel wrapped around his head. They’re surprised to see each other.

They head for the sauna. Hoon Dong asks why Ki Tae’s there. Ki Tae’s not the type of guy who would sleep there. Ki Tae answers by asking if Hoon Dong got kicked out of his house. Swaying Hoon Dong is a little annoying. Hoon Dong tells Ki Tae not to tell Hyun Hee. Ki Tae asks him what he’s going to do now. He says that with the slush money he appropriated without HDM knowing, he’s bought a newlywed house. Just a little embezzling between family. They’ll move right in as soon as they've had the ceremony. Ki Tae tells him that he’s matured a lot.

Hoon Dong sighs and says that he’s still got far to go for him to grow up. What he has right now is a negative balance in his account. He moans. Ki Tae asks if he want to clean the hospital. Hoon Dong glares at Ki Tae, insulted, and tells Ki Tae to make sure to pay lots of congratulatory money at the wedding! He asks if Ki Tae is still coming to the wedding. It takes Ki Tae a second but he realizes… He asks if Jang Mi is also going? Hoon Dong looks at Ki Tae thoughtfully and Ki Tae shifts uncomfortably.

Jang Mi with Hyun Hee, looking at the pictures of the ultrasound. She says that it’s so fascinating. This little jelly-like thing will become a person. Hyun Hee thanks her for coming to the hospital with her. Then she presents the wedding invitation and tells her that she has to come. They’re holding the ceremony by the Han River and they’re going to have a champagne day party. Jang Mi gently asks if HDM is coming to the party. Hyun Hee says that the mother-son relationship doesn't end just because she said so, so Jang Mi shouldn’t worry about her. She tells Jang Mi that she has to come! Jang Mi asks if Ki Tae is coming.

Switch to Jang Mi frantically going through her closets trying to figure out something to wear. Does she want to look good or look like she’s over Ki Tae?

♬ When I see you, my heart pounds and my lips dry up ♬
♬ I couldn’t sleep last night because of the butterflies ♬
♬ Why am I like this? My face is getting hot ♬
♬ My head gets dizzy, my body gets electrified ♬

She realizes what she’s doing and asks herself what the heck she’s doing. Why is she putting in so much effort?

Ki Tae is getting ready. He thinks of that conversation in the sauna and the question whether Jang Mi was coming. Hoon Dong says that of course, she is. Jang Mi’s the reason why Hyun Hee and he met. Ki Tae mutters that it would be a little awkward for him to go, then. Hoon Dong asks him if he still can't forget Jang Mi? That’s why he’s at the jjimjilbang, after all. Ki Tae protests. What is there to forget? He says that he’s just concerned that they’ll get entangled again uselessly. Hoon Dong tells him not to come then. Ki Tae wasn’t expecting that response. He says that he gets it. He’ll show his face for a bit. When Ki Tae’s not looking, Hoon Dong makes a face at Ki Tae, imitating his pathetic-ness and then he chuckles to himself.

Wedding Day. Ki Tae arrives and is scanning the crowd for Jang Mi. He doesn’t see her and worries that she didn’t come. She’s also there. She sighs and says that this won't do. She doesn't have the courage to see Ki Tae. She turns to leave but stops because it's Hyun Hee's wedding. She forces a smile on her face ask she tells herself that she’ll go see Hyun Hee's face and then go. Smile fades as she worries about how she’s surely going to come across Ki Tae. If she sees him, her heart will only hurt. She turns around to go and gets yells at HHM for not making up her mind if she’s coming or going. When Jang Mi tries to go, HHM grabs her arm and says that they should go in together. HHM drags Jang Mi inside.

Ki Tae still hasn’t seen her. He grabs one of the drinks off the table. Se Ah walks up says hello. He looks at her and looks away, not saying anything. He walks away, pissed. Then he sees Jang Mi.

♬ I have nothing to lose anymore, so that's why I cry ♬

Jang Mi sees him. He walks toward her like he can’t believe it, like he’s going to cry.

♬ You are the single tear in my eye ♬
♬ Love, that one easy word, sounds like a teardrop to me ♬
♬ flowing down like a fool ♬

And Se Ah sees it. I blow raspberries at her. Jang Mi chickens out and turns around to walk away. She’s practically hyperventilating.

♬ (Because of you) I could breathe. ♬
♬ Because of you, I could withstand it ♬

Ki Tae tries to work up his nerve.

♬ Only one person ♬

Jang Mi whimpers in her head that Ki Tae is coming this way. He's coming this way! He's coming this way! They are killing me right now!

♬ For one day ♬

Ki Tae has to stop because the bride and groom appear. Garish tux on Hoon Dong and short-skirted wedding dress for Hyun Hee. But it works for them.

♬ I hope you will stay in my miserable life ♬
♬ For one more day ♬
♬ Even if I were to live, ♬
♬ I'm hurt. It's you ♬

The song is just driving in the knife. I’m tortured as the happy couple walks down the aisle to everyone clapping.

♬ For just one more day, please, please ♬
♬ I want to reach you ♬

Jang Mi and Ki Tae don’t move. Chef announces the cutting of the cake.

The next part is the cutting of the cake. Then the exchange the rings, and then the bride and groom kiss. The crowd chants, “Kissu-hey! Kissu-hey!” (Kiss! Kiss!) Hoon Dong is loving it. He gives Hyun Hee a kiss on the forehead, which makes the crowd groan. Hyun Hee grabs his face and plants one on him. Cheering and embarrassment from the crowd.

Chef is the announcer. He starts to say that it’s time for the parents to be greeted, but Hoon Dong signals him to nix it. Chef covers that they’re going to skip it because of time constraints. Jang Mi notices HDM trying to look inconspicuous in the back. She yells at Chef to wait and says that HDM came. Hoon Dong pathetically yells ‘Oma!’ He starts to cry like a four-year-old as he runs down the aisle to her. He throws his arms around her and tearfully thanks her for coming. She hits him and tells him he’s a bad jerk.

Hyun Hee walks up and greets HDM. HDM tells her to live well and starts to 'threaten' Hyun Hee, about nagging her son. HHM walks up and gushes that she’s so glad HDM came. HHM grabs HDM’s hands and pulls her toward the front. The crowd claps as the four walk up to the front together. See, even if it’s bad, it can still be fixed.

Jang Mi is walking after the ceremony. Se Ah approaches her. And I hiss. I want to punch Se Ah. Se Ah asks if Jang Mi will have a drink with her. Don’t do it! Se Ah says – like it’s nothing that happened – for Jang Mi not to hate her too much, because she’s not the one who intruded. Jang Mi did. Se Ah says that she’s known Ki Tae for 20 years. They eaten more meals together and had more conversations. What is she doing? Stop before I punch you!

Se Ah says that Jang Mi has no idea of how many of Ki Tae’s memories she’s a part of, since she doesn’t know Ki Tae's past. Jang Mi is just looking at Se Ah. Se Ah declares that through all of it, she has been too considerate of him. Really? Wow. Wow. Wow. When he said, “Let's get married,” she said, “Okay.” When he said, “Let's cancel the marriage,” she said, “Okay.” She wants him, but because she knows that he's not a person that can be trapped even if she wants to, so she wanted to have a baby like him. And that’s not trapping him? I mean, she tried to blackmail him into it and it would link them FOR LIFE. I am staring at my computer screen, flabbergast at Se Ah’s brain.

Se Ah sadly smiles and says that she was trying to be considerate of him in her own way. Ki Tae’s watching the conversation. I’m not sure what he’s thinking or if he can hear any of it. Se Ah says that for as long as she’s lived, she’s never had to beg someone for their heart, not once. She says that the one person's heart that she really wanted, she couldn’t get. She says that Jang Mi said that sincerity will always make its way through, right? So why can’t her sincere heart be understood?

Jang Mi says, “I know, huh?” Who thinks to spread such absurd rumors? What kind of crap is it, that sincerity will make its way through? It hurts because our sincerity it’s not understood. Right? Ki Tae’s still watching, even though Jang Mi doesn’t know he’s there. And man, does she sound broken right now. Not the normal optimistic Jang Mi. You did this, Se Ah, you did! Jang Mi says that if you really get picky, there's no one in this world who isn't sincere. Wanting to be happy and to receive love... Everyone wants that sincerely. Maybe that's why it's harder, right? Se Ah nods and smiles sadly. Jang Mi looks down and walks away. And I actually thought I saw some regret on Se Ah’s face. Not that she could have just explained what she did and apologized for it, but didn’t!

Ki Tae watches Jang Mi walk away, concerned. This is the last time he might see her. Now we’re back at the opening with Ki Tae running after her. She doesn’t realize he’s behind her. He says her name and she stops, nervous. And I am so nervous! They have tortured me all episode!

She turns and looks at him. And his face is killing me. So is hers. Jang Mi thinks that she doesn't know how many times she imagined this situation in her mind. Ki Tae thinks that he’s thought about what to tell her first a million times... Jang Mi wonders if she should tell him that she missed him? Ki Tae wonders if he does, will she then believe him? Or will she just laugh at it? Ki Tae looks a little sick at that thought. She wonders if she should ask him to be friends again. Ki Tae wonders if he can do it. Jang Mi thinks that she can't do that, right?

They both start to speak again. Then tell each other to go first. Awkwardness. My stomach is starting to hurt, this is so stressful! Ki Tae smiles at it. He tells Jang Mi to go first. Chicken! You need to go first! Jang Mi thinks, with desperation and longing, “I missed you. I wanted to see you. I missed you.” She sighs and… Ki Tae’s eyebrow raises with anticipation.

Jang Mi spits out that Ki Tae should be nice to Kang Se Ah. Ki Tae wasn’t expecting that. It confuses him. Jang Mi’s brow furrows as she’s kicking herself for what she just did. He asks why she said Se Ah. Jang Mi says that Se Ah still likes him a lot. Immediately Ki Tae responds, “Not me.” He doesn’t. Jang Mi says that Se Ah is having a hard time because of him.

Ki Tae sighs, not believing that Jang Mi is sticking up for Se Ah after what she did. He asks, with some frustration in his voice, what he can do for Se Ah? If he can't give her his heart, it is only right for him to cleanly cut ties with her. Yup. Glad you learned that lesson. Pointlessly trying to lessen the guilt by being good to her will only bring her even more pain! Jang Mi replies that even if it's in the past, it is not right to ignore someone's feelings for him. I want to throw something at the screen. He looks at her again with a ‘what?’ look on his face.

Jang Mi asks if Ki Tae can say that those feelings aren't, even a little bit, his responsibility? Ki Tae fires back, asking if that means that Jang Mi has to take responsibility for Han Yeo Reum? Jang Mi’s voice is hard as she says that she’s in the middle of taking responsibility for the mess that she’s made. Ki Tae can’t believe that she just said that, that she’s rejecting him, telling him to go to Se Ah. He yells at her, asking if Jang Mi really hopes that he does that?! He stops a moment, looking at her. He says that he’s asking if she really him to go to Se Ah?

There’s a long pause where they look at each other. Finally Jang Mi answers, “Yeah.” Ki Tae’s face twitches like she’s slapped him. He nods and says that he got it. Jang Mi’s eyes have tears in them. Ki Tae looks and there’s Se Ah. He walks away Jang Mi towards Se Ah.

♬ You are just crying for a long time. ♬

He does a wrist grab on Se Ah and they walk past Jang Mi. No!!!

♬ You also miss him today. ♬

Jang Mi hurts as they walk away.

♬ You had a hard time all this time. Comforting me while looking at me ♬
♬ Those words. Those words. ♬

She starts to cry.

♬ I think about the memories with you for a long time. ♬
♬ If I open my eyes ♬

Se Ah asks Ki Tae where they’re going. He doesn’t answer.

♬ I just see your back. ♬

She yells her question again.

♬ By chance, is this a dream? ♬

He finally stops.

♬ Am I still living in those days that we see each other ♬

Ki Tae lets go of Se Ah’s wrist. He doesn’t turn around to look at her, even when she says his name.

♬ I just want you to love me. ♬
♬ Tell me that you love me. ♬

Se Ah has tears in her eyes as she says that even looking at his back…

♬ You also feel the same as me. ♬

She can tell how he truly feels, she knows his sincerity.

♬ Even though I hope again and again, I can't have you. ♬

She tells him to go.

♬ Even though I know about it, ♬
♬ I look for you again ♬

Ki Tae just stands there, trying not to cry.

♬ like a fool. ♬

Se Ah walks away and starts to cry.

♬ Even if I am always laughing, you won't know ♬

Ki Tae turns around to look in Jang Mi’s direction.

♬ how much my tired heart is crying. ♬

He starts to run. Finally! Ah!

♬ If I tell you I miss you a tens of thousand times, ♬
♬ Will you think about me for once? ♬

Se Ah stops, covering her mouth so her sobs won’t make a sound.

♬ I just want you to love me. ♬

Jang Mi is looking at the Han River.

♬ Will love come? Tell me that you love me. ♬

She looks down at her phone, the one Ki Tae gave her. What seems like forever ago.

♬ Tell me you also feel the same as me. Even if I hope again and again, ♬

She thinks of when he gave her the phone. Then of how Ki Tae says that cleanly cutting ties with the other person is being considerate of them! Out loud, she says that what he said is right. Thanks to him, she thinks she can be alone. And if this was the end of the episode and series, it would be the most depressing thing ever.

♬ If I call your name, ♬
♬ Can I meet someone like you again? ♬

She says, “Bye, Gong Ki Tae.”

He’s running hard, looking at the tracker app on his phone.

♬ I can't live without you. ♬

He tries calling her.

♬ Will you come? Tell me that you love me. ♬

Jang Mi goes to throw the phone into the river as it rings.

♬ Tell me you also feel the same as me. ♬
♬ Even if I hope again and again, ♬

As she’s releasing the phone, she realizes he’s calling.

♬ I can't have you. Even though I know about it, ♬

He’s running. And it’s in slow motion.

♬ I look for you again ♬

Jang Mi flinches as the phone splashes in the river.

♬ like a fool. ♬

Jang Mi looks, stunned, at where her phone landed in the river. Ki Tae is running, gasping, trying to find her. Jang Mi quietly says that she can't let go of Gong Ki Tae. If they don’t find each other, I am going to cry! Louder she says that she wants to hold on to Ki Tae. She gasps and starts running.

Ki Tae’s still running. Dang, it’s two songs in a row. Jang Mi is running. In heels, no less.

♬ I who am inside your heart, I who can't be reached, ♬
♬ My chilled heart that hangs on to you, ♬
♬ As it flows slowly, As it changes often ♬
♬ You flow and I am hurt, ♬

They are killing me!

♬ (Because it's you) I could breathe ♬
♬ (Because it's you) I can withstand it ♬

They’re going to find each other on the heartfelt chorus, aren’t they, the part that rips at my chest when he sings it, when it’s a sad moment.

♬ Only one person. ♬
♬ For one day ♬

I HATE THEM! The episode ends.

♬ I hope you will stay in my miserable life ♬
♬ remaining like a dream, ♬
♬ For one day, even if I were to live ♬
♬ I'm hurt, It's you. ♬

Thoughts

I am so mad. And I feel sick to my stomach. I can’t believe the writers left such a cliff hanger!!! Wow, was this a gut-wrenching episode! So many people hurt by what they’ve done. Them seeing the hurt that they’ve caused. Ak! I can’t stand it.

The one thing that baffles me is Se Ah. Her brain is truly warped. How could she ever think that he would be okay with what she did or excuse it? He was right when he pointed out that she did it without regard for anyone else’s heart. Even with his limited understanding of Mom, he knew it was going to hurt her. Not that he was very apologetic when he saw Mom later, but he knew. He was more concerned with how it was going to hurt Jang Mi, Oma and Appa, though.

I think, in some ways, because Halmeoni found out and it wasn’t that bad, they thought that it wouldn’t be as bad as it was.

Mom’s gone back to her cold, hard self and Oma and Appa are getting a divorce.

They better find each other immediately in the next episode and kiss, gosh darn it, or I am going to throw something at my computer.
