Marriage Not Dating Episode 14 Recap

Episode begins with Ki Tae sitting on his couch in a salmon suit. A reporter asks him about the apartment. She heard that it has special meaning for him. He replies that when he was young, he lived there by himself for a few days. They are memories of happiness and warmth, nice and comforting. That’s probably why, after becoming an adult and he’s in the house alone, his heart feels at ease there. That’s such a nice way of expressing that you feel comfortable: my heart feels at ease. Reporter asks if that’s why he still wants to live alone there. Ki Tae smiles slightly, chuckling to himself.

Door bell starts to ring insistently. Reporter and Ki Tae glance in its direction. He tries to talk over the doorbell ringing. He says that recently, some woman has started coming there and, after she flipped this house upside-down, she ruined the innate meaning of the house. He almost looks mad at that.

Pounding on door now and Reporter points in its direction, face asking if Ki Tae wants to get the door. Ki Tae groans inwardly. He says that ever since that woman started coming there, he’s come to be uncomfortable and dislike when he’s in this place alone. Reporter weakly says, “Yes.” Ki Tae’s pace looks like he watch to punch the bell ringer. Then he smiles, almost looking bitter, and says that he’s come to want to be with that person.

And that takes on a whole new meaning, given we ended the last episode with Jang Mi asking for a cool relationship, meaning not serious.

Back to where we left the old episode… with Jang Mi asking for a cool relationship. Like an idiot. Ki Tae is surprised. She says that they should just do the dating, not the marriage. Ki Tae blinks for a few moments and then laughs, dropping the cork screw onto the table. He asks who she is. She shoves his knee and says that she told him not to laugh! She says that she really wants it to be different this time. Ki Tae looks like he’s trying to figure out how to respond as Jang Mi says that up till now, she thought that the desire to be together was all it took and so she just put everything into a relationship. And in the end, she messed everything up, getting a criminal record and being labeled a stalker.

Ki Tae sighs and says that that's because her partner was Lee Hoon Dong. She says that’s right. But this time, it is Gong Ki Tae. Aw. Because he’s special. He swallows because he understands that this is what she means. Double Aw. This time, she really doesn't want to mess things up. She wants them to keep their relationship a secret for a while. Ki Tae looks down. She says that if their parents find out, the house will flip over again. She’s just saying that they shouldn't prematurely let their parents find out and hurt them even more. Ki Tae looks a little bummed, because he knows she’s right.

Jang Mi says they need to first fix what they messed up. Ki Tae looks like he’s pouting. He looks a little disappointed because they’re not going to be doing anything else besides drinking wine tonight. Heh. Jang Mi says that they need to put the hospital back in place, and she needs to find her place, too. Mom just thinks that she was with Ki Tae because she’s after his money. Ki Tae replies that they can resolve the misunderstanding. Jang Mi says they can’t, not if she doesn't change. Ki Tae sighs.

Jang Mi says that she hates hearing people call her Cinderella when they find about the relationship between them. She wants to earn money and be a dutiful daughter to Oma and Appa, so that she can stand proudly by his side. As his wife. Eee! She smiles at him. He smiles slightly at her.

Ki Tae says that she’s… eating kimchi stew by herself. Eating kimchee stew by yourself is an expression that means getting ahead of yourself. Heh. He’s horrible. She doesn’t understand. He asks if someone said that they would marry her? Surprised face from Jang Mi. He makes a disgusted face and starts pouring the wine. She makes an annoyed face in his direction. He tells her that even when he’s not even thinking of that, she’s already so hasty, making these grand plans. She starts to sulk a little. He hands her a glass and tells her just to start drinking wine. They both chug it down.

Jang Mi puts down her glass and declares that she’s said everything she was going to say, so she’ll go home. Ki Tae doesn’t want that. She grabs her purse and tries to leave, but Ki Tae grabs her and pulls her down to sit on the sofa, asking if she’s already leaving? Why is she in such a hurry? It’s almost like he’s asking her to stay and make out. She gives him a forehead poke and asks why *he’s* in such a hurry. He falls backward on the couch, with a stunned look on his face. She declares that she’s leaving and heads for the door. Ki Tae runs after her, grabs her arm and locks his around it and sweetly smiles as he says that he’ll escort her home.

Jang Mi shakes her arm loose, telling him not to be clingy. They’re date coolly! Ki Tae protests that he has to hear that, not from just any person, but from Joo Jang Mi? She gives a face that she can’t believe he said that, with pretend insult. Ki Tae sighs. She grabs his face in her hands. Then she plants a quick kiss on him, which he wasn’t expecting. She smiles and tells him, “bye,” and hurries before he can recover from the shock. He touches his lips and then smiles to himself – like a little kid – that she kissed him!

Ki Tae is in such a good mood the next day that he’s dancing as he walks into work. He joyfully greets his staff, throwing his arms wide in emphasis. His receptionist tells him that Plastiwoman deleted her post about him. She asks how he did it. He says that he had another scene maker that was even better than Plastiwoman. His staff is confused. He waves it off and says that he told them that it was a transient breeze that would coolly pass by. He starts dancing again as he asks what his surgery schedule is for the day. His staff is laughing, not at him, at his good mood. Receptionist says that there’s still no one yet. Ki Tae declares that he’s sure they'll recover soon. So ‘fighting!’

Hyun Hee is at Bon Café. Hoon Dong brings her some orange juice. She tells him to bring her coffee. Frown from Hoon Dong. He strokes his eyebrow and fans himself lightly – cracking me up – as he tries to not be irritated. He says that she just asked for juice. She read in a book that caffeine is bad for her. Hyun Hee replies that in the book she’s currently reading, it says that it's worse to have stress from suppressing a desire to eat something. Hoon Dong is smiling and blinking. He replies that she should study less. A smart woman has no charm. What is this, Pride and Prejudice? HDM has walked up behind him and declares that there is no other blockhead like him!

Hoon Dong and Hyun Hee greet HDM, with Hyun Hee running over to HDM and rubbing her arm affectionately. HDM clucks at Hyun Hee for being there and taking up the best seat in the restaurant. Hyun Hee replies that she’s lonely at home, and there are no customers in the restaurant. HDM declares that that’s what she’s there to say: the restaurant has no customers! HDM clucks that she thought Hoon Dong would grow up after getting married, but he found someone just like him. Hyun Hee smiles. HDM tells them that they’re playing well, but in the future, fend for themselves! She’s stopping their allowance and they need to start playing rent for Bon Café! Hoon Dong whines HDM’s name.

Ki Tae arrives, cheerful, declaring that he’s hungry! Hoon Dong waves at him that now’s not the time. Ki Tae sees HDM and greets her. She tsks at Hoon Dong that it’s well into lunch time, and his only customers are his family and his friend? Is he running a business or running a neighborhood love shack... I am laughing at that one. HDM grunts at him and leaves.

Hyun Hee declares that she will get going as Ki Tae dances over to a table. Have they *not* noticed his peppy mood? Come on! Hyun Hee leaves and Hoon Dong looks in Ki Tae’s direction. He’s still dancing in his seat. And I am cracking up. He looks so goofy, it’s cute. Hoon Dong finally notices and asks why Ki Tae’s like this. Ki Tae plays dumb. Hoon Dong asks if there’s something good. Ki Tae shakes his head and says, “Not really.” Hoon Dong asks if he’s okay? Ki Tae sings that he’s okay. Then Hoon Dong breaks out into a dance, that his wife left!!! Dorks, both of them.

Yeo Reum and Jang Mi arrive at their restaurant. It looks really nice. Interesting that he has a huge, long table in the middle, more like everyone will sit together rather than separately. Jang Mi tells him that she has something to say. She says that she’s seeing Ki Tae. Which should have been obvious by her good mood. Yeo Reum looks at her expectantly. She says that she thought she should tell him. He laughs and asks if he asked her to be his girlfriend. He just asked her to be his business partner. Jang Mi laughs, like she must have been an idiot to worry, and says that Yeo Reum is cool, like always.

Jang Mi adds that she hasn’t told Ki Tae yet that they’re working together. She wonders if Ki Tae will be cool about it, if she tells him. They decided to coolly date. Yeo Reum is surprised. She tells Yeo Reum to teach her how to date coolly. He responds that she should end it. Jang Mi is surprised. He replies that if she likes Ki Tae, how can she be cool about it? Maybe he can act cool.

Yeo Reum sees the look on her face and tells her not to worry. He’s not acting cool now, he really is cool, because it’s ended. Jang Mi says that he really is cool if he can say that without feeling anything. Yeo Reum announces that it’s time for the secret investor to arrive. In walks long legs and I groan loudly. No, No, No! Not Se Ah! It’s Hyun Hee. I really am surprised, in a good way. Yeo Reum slides out a chair for her. She sits and apologizes for not telling Jang Mi. She hid it from Hoon Dong, too.

Jang Mi asks why she’s doing that. Hyun Hee declares that Hoon Dong would get upset if she fills up a different pocket. Jang Mi asks what she means. Hyun Hee declares that her husband's family money is her husband's family's money. It isn't her money. She’ll have to do 30 years of emotional labor for it to become hers. Before that happens she has to take care of herself. That way she’ll be able to confidently give her mother an allowance. Jang Mi nods and says that like usual, Hyun Hee is diligent. Hyun Hee smiles and says that she spent all the money she saved up before her marriage.

Hyun Hee tells Jang Mi that they have to be successful. Jang Mi asks if they might not be able to do it without her? Hyun Hee is surprised but Yeo Reum explains that Jang Mi’s a little hesitant because of her boyfriend. Hyun Hee is excited that Unni has a boyfriend. She asks if it’s, by chance, Ki Tae. Jang Mi nods and says that Hyun Hee is so diligent, too. Hyun Hee is happy about it and asks why they went through all that fuss, if they were going to end up sticking together.

Hyun Hee asks Jang Mi to keep Hyun Hee’s investment a secret from Ki Tae. If he knows, it's only a matter of time before Hoon Dong finds out and it becomes difficult for her. Jang Mi doesn’t see why she can’t tell Ki Tae. Hyun Hee replies that she’s not telling her husband. They are interrupted by the restaurant’s sign arriving. They go outside to look at it. It says Jang Mi’s Fusion Bar Beer and Soju. Jang Mi can’t believe them. Hyun Hee announces that they decided they were going to include Jang Mi from the beginning. Yeo Reum asks if she’s touched. She complains about the name being tacky and old-fashioned. Hyun Hee asks if Jang Mi’s really not going to do it, since her name’s in the sign? Jang Mi sighs.

Ki Tae is visiting the family. Everyone is there except Dad. Of course. Mom slides an envelope across the coffee table and tells him to pass it on to Jang Mi. Ki Tae just looks at it. Mom says that everything on the Internet was deleted. They should do what that child wants – meaning pay her off before it gets put back up again. Ki Tae sighs and says that money wasn’t Jang Mi’s intention. Instead, she helped him. What Mom saw and misunderstood was when Jang Mi was convincing that woman. Aunt likes that explanation. Halmeoni asks if they’re still seeing each other. She’s smiling with anticipation. Ki Tae remembers what Jang Mi said about keeping it a secret and says that they’re not dating. He, alone, likes her and is clinging onto her.

Mom asks if Jang Mi’s still seeing that man (Yeo Reum). Ki Tae replies that Jang Mi was also seeing that guy because of him. How badly did he act for her to need someone to lean on? Mom sighs. Ki Tae looks like he feels really badly about things. And I don’t think he’s acting about that last point, treating Jang Mi badly. Aunt calls Ki Tae pitiful because he’s miserable from guilt after losing his love. Ki Tae adds that the man kept cheerfully putting himself forward, with his smiling eyes, and killer smile. so Jang Mi just accepted it appropriately. Ki Tae declares that those two are definitely not in a serious relationship. I just see this going badly, again. Mom discovering the restaurant secret before Ki Tae. I groan loudly.

Halmeoni chimes in that Jang Mi isn't the type to spit on a smiling face and reject people just like that. Mom kind of rolls her eyes. Ki Tae repeats that he and Jang Mi are not in a relationship, so please rid themselves of any misunderstandings or bad feelings about her. She's a person that helped me that I'm grateful for, and she's really a good woman. Halmeoni smiles happily, satisfied, but Mom still has a sour look on her face.

Dad is in another room, drinking some scotch and on the phone. By the way he’s whispering, he’s got to be talking to Trollop. Dad tries to convince Trollop to be patient. Ki Tae walks past the bar and sees Dad on the phone. Dad guiltily clears is throat and turns to hide his face. Not obvious at all. Ki Tae can’t believe Dad is such a jerk. Dad hangs up with Trollop as Ki Tae starts to walk away. He invites Ki Tae to have a drink.

Ki Tae has a drink with Dad. He says that Mom must be meddling again, even though she said she was going to let him live alone like he wanted. Ki Tae replies that Mom’s being like that her entire life, would she be able to change so easily? Dad declares that he understands Ki Tae. He says he understands how Ki Tae had his heart taken away by a woman like Joo Jang Mi. Ki Tae looks at him, a little surprised. Then Dad keeps talking. Dad declares that Ki Tae must have felt so suffocated. They need space to breathe. Dad declares that it may not have been an advisable method, but he looked for a realistic and reasonable alternative. Wow. He has Se Ah brain.

Dad declares that love and marriage are completely separate issues. Ki Tae looks like he’s starting to feel sick. Dad says that love requires unending change and excitement, but marriage requires stability. Dad doesn’t get that Ki Tae is looking at him, appalled. Ki Tae asks if that what Dad got: stability from Mom? And from change and excitement from that woman? Dad puts his hand on Ki Tae’s shoulder and Ki Tae looks at it with surprise. And like he wants Dad to stop touching him. Dad says that Ki Tae’s age, he used to think of it as absurd, too, but he found out that life itself is absurd. He declares that they may be slightly sad lives, but they aren't bad lives.

Ki Tae asks Dad what he really wants to say? Dad leans in closer and tells Ki Tae to marry a woman like Se Ah and keep Jang Mi as a lover, so that Mom doesn't know. Wow. Dad just told Ki Tae to sell his soul. This whole time, Ki Tae’s been trying to do what’s right by both of them – I mean, since everything was exposed and he found out the truth about what Se Ah feels – and Dad just told him to do something that will destroy both the women. Dad leans back and looks at Ki Tae expectantly. Dad holds up his glass for a toast. Ki Tae just looks at it. Dad shrugs and drinks.

Ki Tae says that at one point in time, he tried to understand Dad. How bad must it have been that he did it. Even though Dad said that he had someone else he loves, why Mom kept holding onto Dad and not letting him go. Ki Tae declares that he understands now. The one who held on and didn't let go was Dad. Dad replies that if he only thought about himself, he would have let Mom go. But there is a responsibility associated with their social class and position. And the heaviness of that kind of burden... Ki Tae looks like he’s a little sick and that he wants to cry. Dad declares that Ki Tae knows what it feels like… that's why he made a fuss about living alone.

Ki Tae nods and says that Dad is right. He’s Dad’s son and is selfish, like Dad. Dad looks away, a little uncomfortable at Ki Tae’s words. Ki Tae looks away too and declares that it's such an embarrassing thing. Today is the first time he’s realized it. Dad starts to try to reason with Ki Tae but Ki Tae keeps going, declaring that Jang Mi is different from Trollop. He looks at Dad and declares that Dad shouldn’t treat them the same way and bring Jang Mi down to Trollop’s level. Ki Tae gets up, bows and walks away. Dad sighs.

Ki Tae walks into his apartment, discouraged, and discovers a huge spread on the living room table. Jang Mi pulls him over to the couch and tells him to taste it all and give his evaluation. They are her "Run for it, Joo Jang Mi" first try appetizers. Ki Tae marvels at how Jang Mi does such preposterous things so well. She feeds him one and… he declares that it's delicious. Jang Mi smiles and declares that she was worried about his reaction. But since it suits the taste of a picky eater like Gong Ki Tae, whose palate is tuned to the skills of Mom, the cooking goddess, it would fit a normal person's taste.

Ki Tae is impressed and asks if she invented all these. She says that the chef did. Digging in, Ki Tae asks who the chef is. Jang Mi frowns because she has to say. She says that it’s Yeo Reum. Chopsticks stop halfway to Ki Tae’s mouth. He puts them down. Yeo Reum? Jang Mi says that she and Yeo Reum ended with certainty, all emotions cool. Ki Tae blinks at her. She shoves his leg as she says that they agreed to coolly date. Ki Tae protests that he didn't know this is what she meant by coolly dating. Jang Mi replies that they know each other’s pasts and instead of ignoring it, they should just acknowledge it. Isn’t that the ultimate cool relationship. Ki Tae’s still blinking with disbelief.

Jang Mi says that she will be okay with Ki Tae and Se Ah being friends. Ki Tae rolls his eyes and huffs at that one. He laughs with disbelief. He just needs to trust her. If she still had any feeling for Yeo Reum, she wouldn't have been able to tell him honestly. Ki Tae replies, asking if he’s just supposed to understand everything if Jang Mi tells him truthfully, then? Jang Mi tells him that she thought it over a lot. Since they became real, she thought about not working with Yeo Reum... But, since her feelings for him have become real, she needs this work even more. She doesn’t like being Cinderella. She wants to be of help to him. Ki Tae sighs.

Jang Mi says that if he’s really that uncomfortable, she will cleanly put it out of her mind. If he tells her not to, she won't do it. He thinks about his recent conversations with his parents – where they think Jang Mi’s just after the money – and tells her to do it. He says that he understands what she’s trying to say. He’ll support it. She happily pats his arm and hugs it as she declares that as usual, Ki Tae is so cool.

Ki Tae pours them drinks and he tells her that she better make sure to be successful. She toasts to their cool dating. Ki Tae’s face is a little disgusted at that one, but then he smiles at what a dork she is. They drink. Kissu-hey! Kissu-hey! She tells them that the grand opening is tomorrow, so he has to buy some flowers and be sure to come by. He mutters that he will. And he is not as happy as she thinks he is.

Ki Tae’s not dancing as he walks into Bon Café and sits at Hoon Dong’s table. Hoon Dong asks, but he doesn’t want to eat anything. Hoon Dong asks what’s changed. Ki Tae was so excited that he was flying around, and now he looks like he’s about to dig his own grave and hide in it enter it. What’s with the abrupt mood swings. Is there a problem with his hospital? Ki Tae shakes his head. Hoon Dong asks if it’s a woman? Ki Tae sighs and says that she isn't cool to anyone else but him. What does Hoon Dong think about that?

Hoon Dong leans in for some dish and asks if the woman is pretty. Ki Tae declares that Hoon Dong will be surprised if he sees her. He’s so wrong. As being mean for getting Hoon Dong’s hopes up. Hoon Dong tells Ki Tae to introduce them. He says that if a woman tries to back out on Ki Tae awkwardly, he needs to let everyone know she’s his first. Why is he asking Hoon Dong for advice? Or is he just going to do the exact opposite? I’m hoping that’s what he’s doing. Because he’s smart and he knows that Hoon Dong’s the idiot that let Jang Mi get away. Ki Tae asks if he should introduce her to Hoon Dong? Hoon Dong is certain because he want to see how beautiful the woman is that has Ki Tae wrapped around her little finger.

Switch to the restaurant, with Hyun Hee and Jang Mi happily greeting customers. They’ve got their department store pose on. It’s Manager and the other girls from the department store. With a smile, Manager declares that they’ve made real trouble this time. Chef arrives. Yeo Reum walks up and warmly greets him with a hug. He seats him across from Manager, saying that there aren’t tables available. Would she mind sitting together? Introductions. And they are so wrong for playing match-maker! Especially because he thinks she’s sure purty!

Ki Tae arrives with a flowered plant. Jang Mi runs out to meet him and Hoon Dong is shocked that the woman is Jang Mi. Ki Tae is smiling broadly. Jang Mi blanches when she sees him. Because of Hyun Hee’s secret. Ki Tae is a dork about them needing introductions. Hoon Dong laughs sarcastically and asks Ki Tae what the deal is. The woman is Jang Mi? She smiles as she tells Ki Tae he was supposed to keep it a secret. Why did he bring Lee Hoon Dong here? He’s wearing that smile he gets when he’s trying to look pleasant and go along with things but he’s really upset.

Hoon Dong immediately asks what Jang Mi’s hiding! He would have been the first to congratulate them if they had told him they were dating. He declares that they should go inside. Jang Mi tells them to wait. She tries to cover, saying that it's already full of customers inside. Ki Tae sees that the restaurant is full. But Yeo Reum emerges. Ki Tae greets him. With a tight-lipped grin that says that he’s not pleased but trying to be. It might be the fact that Yeo Reum’s shirt has no sleeves so that you can easily see his muscles.

Hoon Dong kicks at Yeo Reum and asks how he could betray them and grab hold of Joo Jang Mi?! Yeo Reum dodges the kick. Hyun Hee comes out asking about the wine-makgeolli... Oops. Hoon Dong asks what she’s doing there. Ki Tae realizes that Hyun Hee is one of the friends Jang Mi said she’s opening the business with. Hoon Dong groans and grabs his forehead. As Hyun Hee says, “Oppa,” he sighs and moans, asking where the end is to her plot twists!? He sighs and walks off with Hyun Hee running after him.

Jang Mi mutters at Ki Tae for bringing Hoon Dong and he mutters back that she should have told him. Yeo Reum tells Ki Tae to come on in. Ki Tae shoves the flowers into Yeo Reum’s chest, saying, “Congratulations.” Then he firmly puts his arm around Jang Mi and says they should go inside. Yeo Reum just laughs.

Jang Mi and Yeo Reum working in the kitchen. Ki Tae watching with a frown.

♬ It's I, who can't live without you, not even for a day ♬
♬ Where could you be? Where are you? You are nowhere to be seen. ♬

They laugh together about her cooking. Yeo Reum teases her.

♬ Shall we just eat this? ♬
♬ (Can't see you) ♬
♬ Oh baby ♬

Ki Tae frowns and is clearly jealous.

♬ No matter how much I call you, you don't answer. ♬
♬ Without you, every single day has no meaning for me. ♬

When Jang Mi looks his direction, Ki Tae puts on a bright smile for her and acts happy.

♬ I'm missing you. Before I forget you, please hold my hand. ♬
♬ Your voice spins in my head. ♬
♬ Your face that I can never forget, ♬
♬ Should I understand it, so I can find you again ♬

Jang Mi looks over. Another fake smile. Ki Tae looks at Yeo Reum, who smiles. He doesn’t quite like Yeo Reum smiling like that. He clears his throat and gets up to join them.

♬ Please call out to me, call my name. ♬

Ki Tae walks up and tells Yeo Reum that he doesn’t need to be scared. He calls him ‘man,’ like he’s all cool with it. Perceptive Yeo Reum asks Ki Tae what he means. Ki Tae declares that he doesn’t care at *all* that Yeo Reum’s Jang Mi's business partner, so he doesn't need to be worrying about Ki Tae is thinking, or anything like that, at all. Yeo Reum nods an 'of course.' Ki Tae magnanimously declares that instead, his Jang Mi shouldn't be worked too hard. Capisce? Uncomfortable laughs between Jang Mi and Ki Tae as they pretend that everything is wonderful.

Se Ah arrives for the lame laughing. She congratulations them on the opening. She also has a plant. Jang Mi pretends to be happy to see her, asking how she found out. Ki Tae says that he called Se Ah since her hospital is nearby. He has lots of connections, and will pull in lots of customers for her. And I’m not sure what Yeo Reum’s face means. Se Ah congratulates Jang Mi for their dating. Jang Mi tries to act super cool by telling Se Ah to sit *with* Ki Tae. She’s desperately trying to look like she’s fine and *so* happy to see Se Ah! Ki Tae and Yeo Reum look at her because she is acting weird. And soon it devolves into Jang Mi and Ki Tae competing to see who can look cooler about everything. And I think Yeo Reum knows that they are both full of baloney about this cool dating.

Jang Mi and Ki Tae are driving in his car. Awkwardness. Jang Mi pipes up that Ki Tae was really cool today. He was really manly and awesome in of Yeo Reum. Ki Tae feels uncomfortable but tells Jang Mi that she looked completely confident in front of Se Ah. The cool laughing begins again. Goes back to awkward silence. Jang Mi thinks that they started real dating and tried to care for each other sincerely and become cool, it seems like their conversations become shorter and shorter than when they were fake dating. Neither of them are looking at each other and neither of them are happy.

Jang Mi sighs and suggest they go to Ki Tae’s house. He’s surprised. But happy and speeds up his driving a bit. They get inside and Jang Mi says that she wants to wash up first. Ki Tae eagerly escorts her to the bathroom – that’s not weird at all – and opens the door for her. He waits outside. And does a little fist pump in his head. Jang Mi yells out to him, asking if he has another toothbrush. The speed with which he enters the bathroom to find her a toothbrush made me roll. Ki Tae gets one out of the cabinet.

Eagerly, he asks if she needs anything else and then tells her to use one of those facial buffing scrubbers. She’s likes it and he happily watches her lather up her face. She asks how long he’s going to stand there? She’s about to take a shower. Ki Tae skedaddles from the bathroom.

Jang Mi’s done with her shower. It looks like she has one of Ki Tae’s shirts on now. Hee. She says that she’s refreshed! Ki Tae slides up next to her with his eager smile on. He reaches over to play with her hair. She immediately moves and says that it’s her legs. She climbs into the bed. For someone who looks like she’s avoiding wanting to be intimate with Ki Tae, climbing into his bed isn’t the smartest idea. He climbs onto the bed next to her and asks about her legs hurting. She says that she’s used to standing, but he wants to see. She ‘protests’ but he uncovers her legs and starts to massage them. Which is super sweet!

Jang Mi looks at him. With a face that says appreciation. As Ki Tae massages her leg, her eyes start to droop.

♬ Just imagine ♬
♬ I know you want it ♬
♬ Stay with me ♬
♬ The way you talk always mysteriously stays near my ears ♬
♬ My face grows red (and my heart gets excited) ♬

He looks up her and she’s fallen asleep. Ki Tae notices. He stops massaging.

♬ Inside the square bus ♬
♬ I faintly hear a well-known song ♬

He leans in and says her name. She moves slightly.

♬ At some point (falling into you) ♬

Ki Tae sighs and says that she wanted to date coolly and now she’s cool-cool? (Cool-cool: a Korean idiom for heavy sleep).

♬ Wanna walk together now? (boy) ♬

Ki Tae sighs and says that this woman doesn't seem to know what coolly dating means, yet.

♬ I fall in love ♬
♬ Wanna take the subway ♬
♬ walking in the rain ♬

Ki Tae lies down next to her and pulls her close so he can cuddle her.

♬ Between the clouds, as if it’s slippery and slowly ♬ ♬ We are already walking ♬

Ki Tae smiles and tells Jang Mi that she’s a bad girl. Heh. He doesn’t look upset at all. He says that he’s only forgiving her because she’s pretty. Which makes me laugh because when they first met, he tried to tell her she needed plastic surgery.

♬ Walking in that lane ♬

Jang Mi’s voiceover says that it was the sweetest sleep she'd ever had in her life. In a very happy voice.

Movie theatre. Ki Tae and Jang Mi are watching what looks like a shogun-type movie. Ki Tae’s chomping on the popcorn and Jang Mi is having a hard time staying awake. She falls asleep on his shoulder. Her voiceover says ‘Sleep. Sleep.’ Now they’re out at a café. Jang Mi falls asleep on his shoulder. “Sleep, and sleep again.” They’re driving. She falls asleep. “Sleep again. Then, sleep again.”

They’re out at a park on a bench, happily bouncing their legs up and down (hers are resting on his leg). He asks if the restaurant – they settled on the name “Run for it, Joo Jang Mi” – is running well lately. She says it is. The word has slowly started to spread. She asks if his hospital recovered? He laughs like he’s insulted and says that, of course it has. Who does she think she’s talking to? Would he still be so weakly floundering? He's Gong Ki Tae. He smoothly runs his hand through his hair as he declares that he’s Gong Ki Tae. She falls asleep again. “Sleep, and sleep again.” He stops smiling and slowly starts to stroke her hair.

Switch to the Restaurant. It’s really busy. Jang Mi’s voiceover says that thanks to the sweet sleep, she’s been able to endure all the time she has to be awake. Scenes of the three of them hard at work.

♬ When I see you, my heart pounds and my lips dry up ♬
♬ I couldn’t sleep last night because of the butterflies ♬
♬ Why am I like this? My face is getting hot ♬
♬ My head gets dizzy, my body gets electrified ♬
♬ Your face flickers before me today ♬
♬ I can’t take it anymore ♬
♬ Starting from tomorrow, we will live happily together ♬

It’s an a capella version of the song.

Ki Tae and Hoon Dong are standing outside the restaurant, sadly watching their women work so happily. Ki Tae sadly declares that they have a lot of customers. Hoon Dong grumbles about how much Jang Mi is laughing, with Yeo Reum no less. Ki Tae asks if Hoon Dong’s okay with Hyun Hee waiting tables even when she's pregnant? Hoon Dong mutters that she pinky promised that she was only going to work at the counter. Hoon Dong complains how Jang Mi should be the one carrying the heavy stuff, since she’s so strong.

Ki Tae protests that description, shoving Hoon Dong. Hoon Dong responds by asking him if he’s ever been punched by Jang Mi? He scolds him for saying he’s been punched. Hoon Dong shoots back, asking if Ki Tae’s ever been pounded on the street before!? He went through it! Is that something you even pay attention to? They start shoving each other as they argue about it.

Ki Tae is in his office, bored. So why did you tell Jang Mi that everything was great. He’s spinning around and around in his chair. After checking and finding out they have no patients, he sighs. Someone knocks and he fixes his hair as he tells them to enter. It’s Se Ah. She asks what they should do. Should she get some filler injections? Instead they go and eat.

Se Ah mentions how Jang Mi is doing so amazingly well. He should have strength and hang in there, too. She asks him again about coming to work at her hospital. They now have a 3D printer. Doesn't it tempt him a bit? His face says that he doesn’t want to. She scolds him that he always responds with that scaredy-cat face, whenever she tries to tempt him about this. She’s not trying to tempt him as a woman, so he can stop being nervous. Not that I trust her when she says that. Se Ah declares that as a friend, and as a doctor, she’s scouting him. Hoon Dong, who has been eavesdropping, is surprised.

Ki Tae smiles ironically smiles and says that whatever it's come to, relying on her isn't good form. She tells him that it's definitely not the time for him to be acting so cool. No matter what, he has to get back up. Ki Tae sighs. Hoon Dong hi-tails it over the Run and tells Jang Mi about what he saw. She doesn’t understand, since he has his perfectly good hospital. Hoon Dong busts Ki Tae’s lie. Hoon Dong says that in such a sensitive neighborhood, when it comes to gossip, it takes a little time once something happens. Ki Tae will need something to break through that, too. Jang Mi wonders why Ki Tae didn’t tell her.

Hyun Hee says that since Jang Mi looks like she’s sprouting wings and flying, Ki Tae’s pride was probably hurt. Hoon Dong doesn’t even give Jang Mi time to process that, but asks what she’s going to do. Is she okay with Ki Tae going to Se Ah's hospital? In her denial voice, Jang Mi loudly declares that, of course, she will. It's for Ki Tae's future, so she has to be cool and understand. Palm to my forehead. Yeo Reum is surprised and Hoon Dong is impressed at how cool Jang Mi is being. She answers that she’s not the same as before.

Jang Mi starts to chops some food and says that for Ki Tae to have prepared his plastic surgery practice so well, and to just give it up, is a bit wasteful. Everyone looks at her, Hyun Hee with a little bit of a smile. Jang Mi immediately acts cool and declares that she doesn’t mean Ki Tae but the hospital, the hospital.

Ki Tae is at his desk, fingering things like he’s saying good bye. Phone rings. It’s Jang Mi calling. She tries to bring it up but he says that he’s a bit busy now. Is it urgent? Cool Jang Mi declares he should go back to work. She acts like everything is great. She hangs up and starts to stew. Yeo Reum comes outside and tells her that she can't do it. He tells her that she’s not wearing a cool face but a depressed one. She replies that Ki Tae understood her working with him, so she has to understand, too. She admits she’s a little disappointed he didn't tell her about the trouble at the hospital, but he probably did it, thinking of me. So, she has to understand.

Yeo Reum sighs. He says that when he was going to school, the teacher said, that if you couldn't understand something, just memorize it. Jang Mi looks like she’s just memorizing it. It makes her look stupid. Yes! You tell her. Politeness is not something you want in a relationship. Not this kind of politeness where nothing gets honestly said. He tells her to go see Ki Tae and talk to him, face-to-face. She protests that they have to work. The customers will be crowding in soon. He sighs as she goes back inside.

Aunt spots her and runs home to tell Halmeoni that she found out what Jang Mi is doing. Halmeoni is proud and excited over how well Jang Mi is doing. Aunt says that they guessed wrong, because does Halmeoni know who was next to her? Mom walks up and asks who was next to her. They’re startled.

Mom makes a beeline for the restaurant. Nervous looks from Hyun Hee and Jang Mi. Mom sees Yeo Reum, who recognizes her. Nervous gulp from Jang Mi.

Mom sits and Jang Mi brings her some food. She pours the makgeolli. Mom tries the food and compliments it. Mom apologizes for misunderstanding Jang Mi. Jang Mi replies that it was normal to misunderstand that situation. She says that her meddlesomeness was the true culprit. Mom adds that she can't say thank you for helping, though. Mom casts a meaningful look over at Yeo Reum. If Jang Mi really doesn’t have feelings for Ki Tae, isn't it courtesy to keep a distance? Jang Mi sadly says “Yes.”

A customer yells for more makgeolli, so Jang Mi hurries and tells Mom that she doesn't have any thoughts of blocking Ki Tae's way. Which means that she’s not going to talk to him. Jang Mi declares that she’s busy living my her life. It's the first time life is so exciting and happy. This is all thanks to Ki Tae and Mom. And Mom should know when someone is putting on a fake face. Jang Mi bows respectfully and wishes Mom to enjoy her meal. Mom watches her and pours herself some more makgeoli, saying to herself that only Ki Tae is left looking pitiful.

Jang Mi enters the apartment to Ki Tae hard at work, looking at the 3D printer technique for plastic surgery. She says that she’s back. Does that mean she’s living there now? She asks and he explains how, with the 3D printer, they can print a frontal view of the patient and can do a much more precise surgery than before, and... He stops because he eyes have glazed over. She tries to pretend she was following all of it. She thinks to herself whether it would hurt his pride to ask about the hospital stuff. She suggests drinks and he says that he has to do that right now. She acts like she’s fine with it.

She is very bored as she waits, but tries to make him comfortable. Does some exercise. Plays a game on her phone. Eventually, she asks if he’s going to sleep? She’s sleepy. He says that whenever she sees him, she’s always sleepy. He smiles softly and tells her to go in first and sleep. She does – trying not to look reluctant – but can’t sleep. Because the bed is empty. She gets back up and checks on Ki Tae, who is still working. She decides not to bother him. Instead, she closes the door again and lays back down on the bed. She says softly that actually, today Mom came by the restaurant. She didn't tell Mom she was meeting him. She couldn't say it. Being confident, next to him, is really hard. And I want to shake her because this is what she needs to say to Ki Tae. She puts her head down and falls asleep.

Run. Jang Mi looks over at Ki Tae and Se Ah having a good conversation. She’s jealous. She brings their pancakes. She tries to act like everything is great. She starts to ask what they’re working on when Richard arrives. Se Ah introduces Richard Bernstein, a professor working at her hospital now. He’s helping with the 3D printing technology. They greet each other in English. Then they have their conversation in English. And Se Ah’s English accent is horrible! Ki Tae’s is better, but he’s not fluent. Richard is a native English speaker.

Jang Mi tries to act like it’s no big deal, even though it’s shot her confidence in the foot. In Korean, Richard asks Se Ah what the food is. She laughs. Please say you’re going to fall for him. He is cute. He really likes the Sundae (blood sausage). Ki Tae glances and sees Jang Mi laughing with Yeo Reum. Not so happy. Jang Mi looks and sees Ki Tae laugh with Se Ah. Jang Mi thinks to herself, that they like each other, so why do they slowly have less to talk about?

Ki Tae opens his apartment door, rubbing his eyes, to find Yeo Reum. He’s surprised. Yeo Reum remarks how nothing’s changed. Ki Tae tells him that he doesn't have to give him anything to drink, right? Yeo Reum says that Ki Tae’s unfriendliness is the same too. Ki Tae wants to know why Yeo Reum is there. Yeo Reum pulls out an envelope and says that he’s thankful for the 5,000,000 won. Ki Tae says that Yeo Reum doesn’t have to pay him back and Yeo Reum’s just there to gloat over his restaurant’s success.

Yeo Reum asks if it looks like he’s gloating. Doesn’t Ki Tae see Jang Mi overdoing it, being overly considerate, trying not to let him come to any harm? Ki Tae replies that he’s also trying to be very considerate of her, because Jang Mi said that she didn't want to lean on me, but stand up by herself. It's not that he didn't give her certainty? Ki Tae doesn’t know what he means. Yeo Reum explains: “I can lean on this man.” “Even if I lean a bit, he's not one who will pull out and run, away like other men.” Yeo Reum mutters that as a man, Ki Tae can't even give her that kind of certainty?

Ki Tae shakes his finger at Yeo Reum and asks what Yeo Reum knows about Jang Mi. He knows Jang Mi the best. Yeo Reum says that he knows that Jang Mi wants to be with him and that she's working with Yeo Reum to try to stay next to Ki Tae longer. Yeo Reum asks if, right now, is it true that Ki Tae’s really next to Jang Mi? He’s wondering about Se Ah, too. Ki Tae huffs that Yeo Reum is overstepping his bounds a bit today. Ki Tae asks why he needs to hear this from Yeo Reum? Yeo Reum replies that it’s because he likes him. As a person, not like the feeling between lovers. Ki Tae grumbles that Yeo Reum shouldn’t act cool.

Appa is sitting outside, looking up at the night sky. He looks miserable. He looks at his ring sadly and tries to pull it off. It won’t budge. He sighs. He starts to write.

Oma gets the mail and it’s a letter from Appa. Really cool drawings. Oma likes them. On the back, however… Appa has written "Fool… Idiot… Dog poop." Oma sighs angrily. Jang Mi arrives to see Oma mad. Oma shows Jang Mi the postcards. Jang Mi reminds Oma about how she fell in love with Appa by being his pen pal. She said that by being pen pals, they were fated to be together. Omam mutters that she was fooled by that smooth talk, and completely messed up her entire life. Jang Mi suggests Oma write him back.

Jang Mi asks when Oma and Appa stopped talking to each other. Oma asks why it matters when it started or who started it? She doesn’t remember anything, only that once she closed her mouth she couldn't open it again. Love is like that... The moment you close your mouth, it's the end. That finally knocks some sense into Jang Mi. Oma wants them to go inside but Jang Mi runs off to talk to Ki Tae.

Ki Tae is putting on the salmon suit from the opening. He’s thinking about Yeo Reum said: “I can depend on this man.” It's not because he didn't give her that assurance? Ki Tae’s phone rings and it’s Jang Mi. She asks where he is. He says at home. She says that she’s heading there right now. He immediately tells her not to. Coming there right now is a bit troubling... Jang Mi asks why she can’t. He says that something important happened, so he’ll see her later. She protests that she definitely has to see him, right now!

Jang Mi arrives at the door and starts ringing the bell urgently. Pounding on the door and calling his name. More ringing. She hits the keypad to come in. As she opens the door, Ki Tae rushes out and said that he told her not to come! She asks why not? What is so important that's happening? He says that it’s something he didn't want to show to her. She protests that she told him everything honestly about Yeo Reum, but why isn’t he telling her his story. Ki Tae motions at her to speak more softly, but then stops with a sigh. Jang Mi notices the Reporter’s red shoes. She asks who’s inside. He says that it’s a customer. Jang Mi doesn’t buy it and tells him to stop hiding things from her.

Jang Mi declares that whatever he’s doing, she knows it all. He asks how she knows. She looks at his outfit. He mutters that he really didn't want to go this far. She shoves past him and finds people photographing his house. She asks what’s going on. He replies that she said she already knew. They're conducting an interview. The employees kept saying they should improve their hospital's image. She asks why he hid that. He declares that he was embarrassed! He was embarrassed! He should be recognized for his skills. Making a living by selling the image of a handsome, eligible doctor is all Mom’s way of doing things.

Jang Mi starts to smile as she says that that was it. But he’s a handsome bachelor? He replies that of course, he is. She didn't know? She laughs at him. Reporter scurries over and asks if this is his girlfriend. She looks all excited to meet the girl Ki Tae’s been talking about. Jang Mi starts to deny it. Ki Tae just smiles at her, puts his arm around her, and says that she is. Jang Mi protests that a handsome bachelor doctor having a girlfriend is a minus. What if Mom sees? She sweetly asks Reporter to keep it off the record.

Ki Tae asks where they were in the interview. Reporter repeats that after that girl started coming to this house, he said it was uncomfortable, and he didn't like to be alone in it. Ki Tae is a little embarrassed. Reporter laughs and says that Ki Tae said that he wanted to be together with Jang Mi. Jang Mi smiles, obviously pleased. Ki Tae adds that they should keep it off the record. She slaps him playfully and he smiles at her.

After Reporter leaves, they’re having some wine and cheese. Jang Mi says that now that it's become real, it's harder. When they were being fake, it was comfortable to be by his side. She said whatever she wanted to say, too. Now that they’re real, there are lots of things to hide. Ki Tae smiles and says that she must want to look really good in front of him. He clucks that she’s too late. So they should just do it comfortably. He’s already seen everything he should and shouldn't see.

Jang Mi declares that he’s right. Since they already started over, they should say everything they wanted to say before now. Uh oh, I’m scared by her tone. She asks him why he didn't tell her that working at the hospital was hard? He looks at her and asks if she think she’s the only one who wants to act strong? He’s the same, too. Why did he even endure doing that magazine interview that sells his face? Jang Mi doesn’t say anything.

Ki Tae says that instead of Yeo Reum, he would like it if she depended on him. She stifles a smile and says that she was always depending on him. He didn't know? The whole time, because she slept on his shoulder and dreamed in such sweet sleep, it gave her the strength to run around all day, to flip the Korean pancakes, and be able to serve makgeolli. Didn't he know? He’s happy about that.

He asks her to say more of what she wants to say. She says that she understands his friendship with Se Ah but she doesn’t like him being scouted by Se Ah's hospital. He asks how she knew about that (with a smile). He says that she should have said something sooner. He’s going to keep and protect his hospital. That's why she’s been studying more and publicizing more. All he received from Se Ah was an introduction to Richard.

Ki Tae says that he understands her wanting to work and earn money, but he wishes she wouldn't smile at Yeo Reum, saying how happy she is. She laughs. He says that he wants her to maintain the greatest coldness and prickly attitude. She says that she gets it, with a smile, and they toast.

Jang Mi tells him that she wants to get rid of this cool relationship. Since they both can be as petty as they like, it's nice. Ki Tae remembers one more thing. He says that he likes it when she’s sleeping comfortably by his side, but... he doesn't like just sleeping. He is a dog! Funny. They’re laughing too. Pretty brazen. He’s still trying to play it indifferent as she tries not to laugh. He says that tonight… She pokes his arm lightly. She should stay next to him and don't sleep. She is embarrassed and hits his a few times, hiding her face. He’s laughing. She puts her leg on his.

Switch to them in bed after a night of not sleeping, sleeping. And they are sure naked. Not that you see anything but their feet and part of Ki Tae’s bare chest.

Keypad beeps. Oh no! I am laughing. I silently scream as… Someone walks in to clothes strewn all over the floor. Lots of not-Ki Tae clothes. Oh, there’s some of Ki Tae’s clothes. And a bra! And a bra!

Jang Mi – thankfully wearing clothes – stumbles out of the bedroom, half awake, and heads for the bathroom. Holy crap! This is so bad! I am rolling and petrified all at the same time. She stops when she sees the owner of the slippers: Mom. Mom is standing there gasping with her mouth hanging open. Jang Mi tries to make it look not so bad, but she can’t. Episode ends.

Thoughts

Good episode setting us up for the final week. Yay! that they’re going to be normal with each other and talk about what they really want instead of playing it cool. What I really liked about that situation was how Ki Tae went along with it, for her, because he wanted to support her and make up for all the crappy stuff that he caused to happen to her before. Both of them have really grown through this series and it’s great to see them really happy together.

I really hope this sets things up to finally get Mom to see Jang Mi as a good person. That would be the best outcome because Jang Mi really does care about Mom and Mom second-guessing that isn’t helping anything.

Dad is just a jerk. His little speech to Ki Tae seals that idea and that Mom didn’t make Dad so miserable he found Trollop. He was always okay with being an adulterer. If Mom divorces Dad, where will Halmeoni and Aunt live, with Mom? Or with Trollop? That would be funny.

Wow, what’s going to happen in the last two episodes. I am so sad that it’s ending! Han Groo has become one of my favorite actresses, so I’m going to have to check out some of her other stuff.
