Mask Episode 9 Recap

Episode begins right where it left off: Ji Sook struggling not to get her prints taken. Min Woo enters and walks over to her. She says his name. He looks at Cop and says that she’s his wife. He will take her. Cop lets her go. This could be some random dude. But I guess they verified *his* id.

As they leave the station, he holds out the car key and tells her to go alone, if going together is a problem. Could he *be* more awesome? She takes the key. He says that in return, she needs to tell him what is going on, when the time that she can say it comes. She nods and leaves. She should take him with her!!!

Ji Hyuk outside the hotel room. He sneaks in and turns on the light. Ji Sook drives and begs him not to do it, even as her low-gas light comes on. Ji Hyuk sees a ‘sleeping’ Scumbag and pulls out his syringe. Ji Sook has to pull over because she’s run out of gas. She gets out of the car and starts to run. Ji Hyuk slowly creeps toward Scumbag. As he does he sees pictures of Scumbag with his parents. Even in the pictures, he looks like a douche.

Ji Sook arrives at the apartment building and ducks out of sight of Loan Shark and Goon. Loan Shark is telling caller that they can't do it there! They'll take him up into the mountains first.

Ji Hyuk hesitates and thinks about how his debt will be paid off all in one blow. He looks at the pictures again. He leaves without doing anything.

Loan Shark is saying that they’ll bury ‘him’ there. Most likely the ‘him’ they’re talking about is Ji Hyuk. Loan Shark tells his Caller to just get the balance ready, yeah? They hang up and Goon asks Loan Shark why he’s telling them to kill Ji Hyuk all of sudden? Loan Shark doesn’t care as long as he gets paid.

Ji Hyuk leaves the apartment and Loan Shark calls him over. Ji Hyuk asks why Loan Shark is there. Loan Shark says they wanted to make sure he finished the job well? Did he? Ji Hyuk declares that he can't do it. He won't do it, this kind of job. Loan Shark tells Ji Hyuk to get in the car and is able to persuade him. They walk off together. Ji Sook knows they’re going to kill her brother.

Loan Shark tells Ji Hyuk to get in the car. Ji Sook shows herself and yells at Ji Hyuk to run! Loan Shark’s jaw drops because she is alive. Goon is also shocked. Ji Hyuk shoves Loan Shark into Goon and Ji Sook and Ji Hyuk run off together (holding hands).

When they get far enough away, Ji Sook yells at him, asking what he’s doing. He still hasn’t come to his senses? He answers back by asking what she’s doing?! They look at each other. She asks if he’s eaten. She touches his face, tears in her eyes, and says that it’s been rough for him, hasn't it? His voice full of emotion, he says that he thought she died. He starts to cry. She hugs him and starts to cry, too, even as she apologizes. Noona is sorry. He can barely say that Mom is very sick. Ji Sook looks at him shocked.

Min Woo – now in casual clothes rather than his suit – is sitting at the bar with Mi Yeon. She asks what he wants to ask her. He says that it’s not merely curiosity but something he wants to confirm.
She wants to break up his marriage, doesn't she? He calls her Noona. So we have two Noona-Dongsaeng conversations going on right now. And he hardly ever calls her ‘Noona.’ She was against it even before the marriage began. Because she thought he’d benefit by marrying Seo Eun Ha and inherit the company. Mi Yeon chuckles softly and says that it’s not like that. She doesn't have an interest in the company. And this time, I think she’s actually telling the truth.

He asks why she gave him the fountain pen, then? A pause. He says that the fountain pen was a gift to Seok Hoon from Eun Ha. Was she hoping that Eun Ha and he would get into an argument over a misunderstanding she created? Is he really wondering this? She looks at him and asks if he trusts his wife. He says that he does. She asks why. He says that he can tell by her eyes.

Mi Yeon laughs out loud at that. Which I think irritates Min Woo a little. She says that she has no interest in his marriage. She doesn’t care whether it breaks up or not. But if his wife affects her marriage, she won't sit still. He now knows it as well. The relationship between Seok Hoon and Eun Ha is not just as in-laws. And he’s still going to trust Eun Ha foolishly?

Min Woo smiles and says that there is a phenomenon called Nunbucheo. If you stare quietly into your opponent's eyes, you'll see your own face in them. That is what they call Nunbucheo.

I had never heard of this before, although I have heard of this concept before, so did some internet research. The closest I could get was Ko Hyeong Ryeol’s work, ‘Frost Flowers and Snow Buddhas’ (Seong-ekkot nunbucheo). A blurb about the work says that “Ko Hyeong-Ryeol’s poetry erases the borderline between the sacred and the profane, Buddhist enlightenment and the mortal human body. Ko has intimations of his ‘life before birth’ while meditating on his wife’s sleeping body; he discovers his poetic mission in the cricket’s song.”

Other interesting articles to note:
‘Analysis of Shoveling Snow with Buddha.’ It’s a 7-stanza poem where the narrator shoves snow with Buddha, which illustrates how being happy in the now brings one closer to enlightenment.
Seeing the World Through Buddha’s Eyes. A discussion of the Buddhist perspective.

Mi Yeon asks, “So?” Min Woo replies that No matter how close you are, if the other person avoids making eye contact with you, you can not see your reflection. He looks at her and asks his Noona if she’s ever seen Nunbucheo in her husband's eyes? She looks at him and starts to say ‘of course,’ but can’t finish it when she looks in his eyes.

There’s a pause and a small smile from Min Woo. He’s Nunbucheo in Seo Eun Ha's eyes. He nods at the truth of it. So, he believes her.

Ji Sook has gone and gotten a wad of cash out of an ATM. She hands it to Ji Hyuk and tells him to go hide somewhere. Noona will take care of everything. He looks at her, sadly. She says that it worked out better this way. All this time she’s been trying to find a way to send money home. She tells him not to worry. She’ll get the money, somehow. Ticked, hurt, Ji Hyuk tosses the money in the air. He tells her that she’s gone mad. She’s crazy. He orders her to quit immediately and go home. Doesn't she know the hard time Mom and Dad were having because they thought she was dead? Ji Sook’s chin quivers.

Ji Sook shakes her head. She can't stop there. It turned out like that. She goes over and starts picking up the money. She stops and asks what Ji Hyuk’s doing. This is all money! Money! Sadly, she asks why he thinks she’s gone this far? Why? And the vein in her forehead is popping out.

Seok Hoon is sitting on the couch in their suite, watching that laptop. Mi Yeon exits the bedroom and asks if he isn’t going to go to sleep. He says that he’s about to. She says his name. She think about what Min Woo said. Before she can see herself, Seok Hoon looks down. He says that he loves her, too. He gets into bed and she’s crushed.

[Episode 9 – Nunbucheo]

Ji Sook has gone to Eun Ha’s apartment. She looks at the smiling portrait of Eun Ha, the yearbook which says that you can never be happy wearing a mask. She imagines Eun Ha standing there looking at her and thinks of Eun Ha saying that you can't survive if you don't wear a mask. Ah, but she didn’t survive, did she?

Ji Sook returns home. Min Woo is waiting up for her. Without looking up from where he’s sitting on the couch, she asks if she’s taken care of her business well? She barely nods. He looks up and sees there are scratches on her arm. He’s immediately concerned. He walks over to her. She doesn’t look at him. She says that she’s going to wash up, but then stumbles. He catches her and asks if she’s alright. She doesn’t answer and tries to walk away. He reminds her that she said she wanted their relationship to be one of helping each other rather than using each other. And living like that would be less difficult. She barely looks at him as she says that he cannot help her. They cannot help each other. He lets her walk away. The look on his face says that he’s hurting for her.

Ji Sook meets with Seok Hoon in the wine cellar. She asks if he knew about Mom’s illness. He says he told her Mom was in critical condition. She asks about Ji Hyuk and he knows exactly where Ji Hyuk is hiding. He says he heard that someone tried to kill Ji Hyuk. On *his* orders. Seok Hoon sighs and says that Ji Hyuk’s her beloved dongsaeng. She can't let him continue to live in hiding. He wonders how he might be able to help her. He tells her that if she’s fallen into quicksand, she shouldn’t struggle but instead reach out her hand, asking for help. But not to Min Woo; him.

Ji Sook says that if anything happens to Ji Hyuk, she won't sit still. Never! He replies that it’s for her to choose, whether something will happen to her dongsaeng or not. She asks what he wants. He replies, “Brother-in-law!” Min Woo is not qualified for that position. She knows it, too. When she drags Min Woo down herself, then her brother will be safe. She asks if he thinks she’s capable of that. He says that she’ll do it… Within three days. Yikes! That’s a timeline. You need to talk to Min Woo.

Coldly, Ji Sook asks what she’ll gain from this. He asks if there’s something she wants. She replies, eyes glassy, that he should make it so she can live as Seo Eun Ha. Not as Byeon Ji Sook, but live as Seo Eun Ha. That almost sounds like she’s asking for them to have the type of relationship he had with Eun Ha. She’s not, but I bet Seok Hoon’s gonna think of it that way. She tells him to unfreeze the account in Seo Eun Ha's name that he froze. They made a deal, didn't they? Seok Hoon leans in and tells ‘Seo Eun Ha’ not to wear a mask haphazardly in front of him. She’ll get caught very quickly.

Manager is showing Min Woo some new ‘Botox Pants.’ He’s lost in thought, staring out the window at Ji Sook. Manager tries to get his attention. Finally, he drops his voice and says, “Hey, look here!” Min Woo immediately asks “Why?” Manager laughs and says that Min Woo *has* been listening! He continues his presentation. Min Woo sighs and goes back to looking at Ji Sook. Who could easily see that he’s doing it, if she just looked in his direction.

Ji Sook is sitting at her desk, thinking about her wine cellar conversation with Seok Hoon. Drag him down; then her brother will be safe. She looks up. Min Woo is staring at her and immediately moves his eyes away and then turns his head, like he *wasn’t* just looking at her. Heh. Ji Sook looks down at her desk.

Worker2 comes up and tells Ji Sook shouldn’t even dream about it. Ji Sook asks what she means. Worker2 tells her to stop coveting the Director! Doesn't she know he's married! Mi Yeon snickers slightly. Ji Sook says that she knows. Worker2 asks why she keeps flirting with him then. Ji Sook protests that it’s not like that. Worker2 says that Ji Sook shouldn’t deny it. She catches on to things very quickly. Except the fact that Ji Sook *is* his wife. Don’t they have pictures of them together somewhere?

Worker3 walks up and tells Ji Sook not to play with fire. What if the wife finds out later? He heard that she is something. Mi Yeon leans forward and says that the madam is something. Especially in bewitching people. Ji Sook looks up at her. Mi Yeon says that she heard that in the past, the wife had complicated relationships with men. It seems she still hasn't settled things even after her marriage. Wow, Ji Sook was sticking up for her earlier. Mi Yeon is wrong. Isn't adultery illegal for a married woman? Oh, wait, it's not illegal anymore. Ji Sook looks hurt.

Min Woo walks out of his office and asks Eun Ha to please come on out for a minute. She asks, “Why?” He says that they have an urgent matter to take care of so she should hurry. He walks out and she follows him. Worker2 says that she told them that the pair have something going on.

Min Woo takes her to a restaurant and they order food. She asks if this is the urgent think he wanted to talk about? Looking at his food, he says that it seems like she has something big going on, but she won't tell him about it. He says that he tries not to worry about her, but he ends up worrying anyway. So, they should eat first. Things are complicated. She asks if he brought her there because he saw her enjoying it before? He looks at her and tells her that she always think that she's the center of attention. They came there because he wanted to eat this. It's tasty. Heh.

She sighs and says that they should eat first. She’ll worry and solve the problem with a full stomach. He tells her to be careful. It's hot. He looks at her and gives her a small smile.

They head out to a serene garden. He says that he comes there to clear his head. Walking while listening to the birds and the wind, he feels better and it clears his head, too. They could be holding hands right now. He says that walking there, he sometimes thinks about those leaves sparkling with sunlight. Are they colored green or white? Is he a happy person born into as a chaebol’s son? Or, an unhappy person who is fighting with his own family to be the heir?

She asks him kind of person he thinks he is. He replies that he’s not sure. Maybe, a person who wants to live a normal life with the one he loves? That sort of person. Isn’t that just what she was saying she wanted the night before while they were driving? I think it was. He asks her what kind of person she is? She reaches up to take a leaf off his lapel, but it blows away. They both watch it fly away. Min Woo looks down, because she’s left her hand sitting on his chest by his heart. She says that she will tell him someday. And if he still feels the same way as now after listening to her story, then perhaps they could live happily and normally like that?

Loan Shark has shown up in the parking lot. He marvels that Ji Sook is driving this expensive car. Min Woo and Ji Sook walk up. Loan Shark asks if he’s the owner of the car. Min Woo looks at him, on guard, and says that it is. Loan Shark says that he slightly scratched the car, trying to park here. Loan Shark wants to setting things. How much does he need to pay Min Woo? This car seems very expensive. Min Woo tells him that it’s fine; he can leave.

Loan Shark responds that he likes precise calculations! Pay up the money he owes and collect the money that is due to him. Not so veiled barb sent Ji Sook’s way. Min Woo repeats that he said that it’s all right! Loan Shark gives his card and says to call him with the repair estimate. Loan Shark turns his attention to Ji Sook and acts like he’s trying to place her. It makes her jump, which Min Woo notices. Have they perhaps met at the department store? Ji Sook is not making eye contact, which Min Woo notices, too.

Loan Shark says that he almost has it. And then he remembers – it’s not her. that woman, is dead. Right? He has the wrong woman in mind. He tells Min Woo to please call him. Hurry. He holds out his card and Ji Sook takes it, but not because she wants to. They leave.

Min Woo watches them leave and chuckles. That guy’s not playing with a full deck, is he? No, he’s not. He asks for the card so he can throw it away. She says that she’ll throw it away. She hurries off for the bathroom. Min Woo is puzzled.

Once inside the bathroom, she calls the number on the card. Loan Shark answers the phone, standing right behind her. He’s his usual stupid self. She asks what he wants. He says that they’ve known each other so long and she still doesn't know what he wants? Money solves everything. She says that she’ll pay her debt within a month. That’s not good enough for him. She asks how much he wants. He asks how much she can give him. He demands 300,000,000 KRW in cash by midnight tonight! Or her brother’s dead. Ji Sook’s going to do it, since he’s guaranteeing Ji Hyuk’s safety. Loan Shark is giddy thinking about all the money she’s going to pay him in the future.

Min Woo is waiting by the car, wondering what is taking Ji Sook so long. She drives by in a taxi. She heads to the bank to withdraw the money, but the account is still frozen. She almost calls Seok Hoon. Instead, she takes some of her purses to a store to sell them. They’re worth about 50,000,000 KRW. Seok Hoon is at work. One of the secretaries says that he must be expecting someone. He doesn't have anything scheduled for the afternoon. He says that an appointment was made, but he’s not sure if it was a lie or the truth. There's a person who needs help, but won't ask for his help. It will get worse as time goes by. There’s a knock on the door. Someone enters.

Ji Sook has gone to Min Woo about the money. She mentions the stock she was supposed to get when they got married. He responds by saying that of course she can't tell him what is going on, right? She sadly nods. He announces that he will do it. He’ll give it to her in cash right away. She looks at him, surprised. He asks if she needs anything else. She says that she’ll pay him back somehow. He tells her that she doesn't have to pay it back. As she's said, it was one of the terms of their marriage. Min Woo stands. Ji Sook says that in regards to the help he gave her, trusting her and waiting for her, she will pay him back later for sure.

Ji Hyuk creeps toward his house. Dad is arguing with Mom not to work. He looks at the money Ji Sook gave him. He heads inside. Dad starts yelling at him for staying out all night. Mom wants to get him something to eat. He tosses the money on the table and tells Mom to get the treatments. He has enough money. She says his name and he tells her not to be stubborn and make things more difficult for Dad and him. Receive some treatments and get healthy to help them!

Min Woo is out getting the money and he’s 5,000,000 KRW short. He wonders if he should sell his watch. Chang Soo looks at him with surprise. When Min Woo asks, Chang Soo says that he thought Min Woo was loaded, with more money that he could imagine. But now his image is... so human, really. It occurs to Min Woo and he asks if Chang Soo has any money. Chang Soo says he doesn’t. Min Woo knows that he just got paid last week. Chang Soo chuckles and says that it went into his annuity. Min Woo puts a hand on Chang Soo’s shoulder and orders him to cancel it. Min Woo will pay him back with interest and the penalty. When Chang Soo hesitates, Min Woo puts his hand on the back of Chang Soo’s neck and says that he’ll cancel it, right? Chang Soo sadly nods.

Ji Sook waits in a coffee shop. Worker2 comes in and sees her. What is she doing there? Ji Sook says that she has an appointment. Worker2 wants to know what appointment would be during work time. Could it be...with the Director?

Min Woo and Chang Soo enter. Worker2 and Ji Sook see them. He’s surprised to see Worker2 and tries to think of a reason he might be there. But before he can come up with anything. 4 men flank him. One announces that he’s Prosecutor Yang Hyuk Joon of Special Division in Seoul District Prosecutors' Office. He’s there to investigate Kim Jeong Tae's (Scumbag) death. They want him to come with them, please. Prosecutor asks what Min Woo is holding. Can he take a look for a moment? Min Woo pulls the briefcase away from his hand and asks that Prosecutor not touch it. He tries to leave, but they stop him and Prosecutor grabs the bag. He opens it and demands to know whose money it is. Ji Sook hurries over and grabs Prosecutor’s arm. She says that’s money he was going to loan to her. She'll prove it. But Min Woo leaves with them.

At the station, Prosecutor asks why Min Woo was carrying 300,000,000 KRW in cash? Is that the money Scumbag gave him for lobbying? Min Woo is unresponsive. Did Min Woo know that Scumbag committed suicide? Cancelling the construction contract by SJ Group, may be the contributing factor for his suicide. Any thoughts on this? Prosecutor demands answers. Where is Min Woo’s attorney. And why does Min Woo look like he’s about to pass out right now.

Prosecutor slaps the table several times to get Min Woo’s attention. He asks if Min Woo received the 300,000,000 KRW from Scumbag. Min Woo looks at him and asks how Prosecutor knew he was going to be there. Who told him? Prosecutor says that Min Woo should only answer the questions he asks. Seok Hoon enters and tells Min Woo not to say anything. He presents his card and says that he’s attorney Min Seok Hoon. Does Prosecutor have a warrant to arrest Min Woo? Prosecutor says that this is a voluntary visit as a witness. Seok Hoon asks if Prosecutor told Min Woo that he could have refused Prosecutor’s request? Prosecutor looks down because he didn’t. Seok Hoon asks if Prosecutor doesn’t know that forced visit is illegal? Seok Hoon tells Prosecutor that next time he needs to send the subpoena officially and tells Min Woo that they should go.

Ji Sook and Chang Soo are anxiously waiting in the lobby. She hurries up to Min Woo and asks if he’s okay. Min Woo tells Chang Soo to get the car started. Ji Sook says his name again. Min Woo sighs and tells her they should talk later. He walks away. Ji Sook is hurt. Seok Hoon says that he thinks Min Woo is still in shock. He asks why Ji Sook didn't tell him earlier. He would have taken care of it. Why can’t you use your powers for good, Seok Hoon?

Seok Hoon holds out the duffel with the cash. She begrudgingly takes it He tells her that he’ll give her a ride. It's dangerous for a woman to go around carrying such a big amount of money. Not if people don’t know she has it. But you’ve just announced it to everyone. She has to take the ride. Min Woo, why did you leave her? What are thinking?

In the car, Ji Sook asks if Seok Hoon was the one who killed Scumbag. Seok Hoon says that he understood that it was a suicide by a drug overdose. Or, her dongsaeng may have killed him and made it look like it was suicide. She asks what he means. He pulls the car over. He holds up a syringe with Ji Hyuk’s fingerprints on it. The evidence of Ji Hyuk visiting Scumbag’s officetel will be everywhere. It’s a critical piece of evidence. What should he do with it? Hand it to the police or throw it away? Her choice.

Seok Hoon asks how she felt when she heard the news of Scumbag’s death. Grief because of a past friend's death? Or relief that her secret won't be discovered anymore? He tells her not to look at me with those eyes. It makes me look like a bad guy. Ji Sook tries to breathe, knowing how far Seok Hoon is willing to go to destroy people.

Dad is now yelling at Min Woo for being questioned by a prosecutor. Seok Hoon says that there was a misunderstanding. Min Woo was accused of receiving bribes from GueMi Yeonong Construc– Dad waves Seok Hoon to stop talking. Dad demands that Min Woo tell him. Min Woo just sits there. Dad says what the money was about. And what's with the death of vice president of GueMi Yeonong Construction? Min Woo looks down. Ji Sook speaks up and says that the money was for her.

Stepmom’s shocked that Ji Sook needed cash. Mi Yeon asks where she was planning on spending it. Min Woo says that he wasn’t lending the money to Eun Ha. He was lending it to someone who needed it. The money is withdrawn from his private account. And about that person's death... Min Woo looks for the words about that. Seok Hoon supplies them: That case is still being investigated. It might not be suicide. Nice little veiled threat at Ji Sook.

Dad asks Min Woo if it’s true that there are no problems. Right? No response from Min Woo. Dad hisses at him and tells, “Is there a problem?” It makes Yun Soo jump. Min Woo looks down. Dad jumps up out of his chair. He calls Min Woo a fool and walks out.

Seok Hoon and Jung Hoon asks if this what Seok Hoon meant by dragging down Min Woo. He says that this is just the beginning. He said that he would drag down Min Woo with her hands. He tells her that her assignment is simple. Place this book in the room that only Min Woo can get into. She asks what it is and he answers that it’s a very special book that can save her brother. He’ll give her until midnight tomorrow night. He says that it’s hard to see her struggling with the thought. Dongsaeng or Min Woo. The choice is her to make.

Ji Sook sits in their room trying to decide what to do. Dongsaeng or Min Woo. She looks at their wedding portrait. She goes and looks out the window. Min Woo is standing by the pool, lost in through. She comes out to him and asks if he’s all right. He asks if that person could have died because of him. She says that it isn’t. That person died because of her. It's not because of him. He asks what she means. She knows about this, too? She looks down.

Min Woo asks if she’s okay. The dead Kim Jeong Tae was an acquaintance of her, right? A small pained look spreads across her face. Min Woo looks out at the water and says that the more secrets you keep, the more you'll be tormented. Should he tell her one of his secrets? He says that he doesn’t remember what she said to him then, that day she fell in the pool and had to be taken to the hospital. But, he does remember trying to kill her. He sighs and says that he planned to tell her before they got married, but he has to tell her now. She remembers seeing the dead Eun Ha.

Pained, he tells her to go away. He wants to be alone. She doesn’t move. He asks if she’s going to keep watching him like that? Making him feel even more pitiful? She starts to walk away. Min Woo remembers back when he was young – probably shortly after Oma’s death – Dad asks Min Woo is he’s a weak person or a strong person? They’re out beside the pool. Min Woo is wailing. Dad yells at him, asking why a boy would be scared of that? It's water! Just water! Because he just watched his mother die in water? Maybe? I really hate Dad.

Dad signals and 2 of the staff help Dad shake off Min Woo’s hands which are wrapped around Dad’s leg. Dad tells Min Woo that he’s a fool and walks off. Stepmom is there and says nothing. Min Woo wails. Adult Min Woo thinks “ I am not weak!” Back to the present, he repeats that.
I am not weak! I am not weak! He walks into the pool. And proceeds to flounder. Ji Sook sees him floating in the water and jumps in after him.

The EMTs are called.

Min Woo remembers being happy, running around Oma with a pinwheel. She’s wearing the ruby heart necklace. Which I think is going to be significant later. He thinks of being out at the market with Ji Sook and her smiling up at him.

♫ I didn't know. ♫
♫ You would be the someone ♫

Young Min Woo lies down and puts his head in Oma’s lap.

♫ to fill my soul like this and abandon me. ♫

Adult Min Woo dances with Ji Sook.

♫ Now I've come back a long way. Finding the person ♫

Young Min Woo with Oma.

Min Woo and Ji Sook stuck in the car, naked.

♫ The person who is standing in front of me, you ♫

Young Min Woo out walking with Oma.

♫ I don't think there will be another like you.♫

Min Woo kissing Ji Sook.

♫ I think for me it's the last time it will happen ♫

Looking at flowers with Oma.

♫ With as much of both pain and tears to change to love ♫

Oma smells the flowers and smiles.

♫ Until the day I stop breathing♫

Ji Sook sits by Min Woo’s hospital bed, waiting for him to wake up.

♫ Until the day all the world's light disappears ♫

He opens his eyes and sees her. She smiles widely.

♫ I think I will have my last love with you.♫

That song made me a little emotional.

Min Woo smiles slightly. He reaches for Ji Sook’s face and instead of caressing her cheek, he pulls on it. She tells him that if he’s wondering if he’s dreaming or if this is real, real is right. He’s still pinching her cheek. That has got to be uncomfortable.

He looks around the room and then back at Ji Sook. He realizes that he’s pinching her cheek. His eyes open wide and he lets go, sitting up. She asks him if he has any idea how much he scared her? Her voice is scolding. He looks out into the room. Everything is nice and specifically placed. Including his clothing and toiletries. She says that she organized things a bit. She thought he might get dizzy when he opened his eyes. She brought a change of clothes for him, too.

He looks at his clothes and asks who changed him into this hospital gown? She thinks back to telling the nurses that she’d do it. Well, he has seen you naked. Fair’s fair. She says that it was the nurses. He nods. She stands and brings over the tray. Everything is arranged to suit his OCD. She says that she brought some porridge. He should hurry and get his strength back and go home. If it is difficult to eat because it is too hot. Or, if he has no strength to feed himself, she has a slight willingness to help. He starts to chuckle.

She smacks him hard on the arm. He looks at her, shocked. She tells him never to do that again! What would she do if she didn't have hi.. She stops before she finished the sentence. Awkward moment and she tells him to hurry and eat up, so he can eat an apple, too. They say that fruit is the restorative food. He waves the arm she slapped around and mutters that she just hit him and now is telling him to eat... He weakly opens the porridge and holds up the spoon. He says that if he has no strength to feed himself or it's difficult to eat because it's too hot, then how will she help him? He's just in that condition now.

She tells him to give her the spoon. She scoops out a biteful and blows on it twice to cool it. He tells her that she just spit on it. She says she didn’t. He answers that he saw it for sure. She says that she really didn't! He says that she just spit on it again. She tells him not to eat it then. Seok Hoon arrives to see Min Woo ask her if she is admitting that she spit on it? She asks if he’s ever thought that this spit might increase his immunity? Hey, when you kiss her and she kisses back, you’re going to be swapping spit. Let her boost your immunity! He says that he hasn’t. Not at all.

Seok Hoon knocks and enters, carrying the duffel. Min Woo asks why Seok Hoon is there. Seok Hoon smiles and asks what he means. He came to visit. He was worried about Min Woo. He announces that Ji Sook should go home. He’ll take care of Min Woo. She says that she needs to peel the apples. He stops her and says that he’ll peel the apples. She needs to go to work, too. It won’t look good if she's absent, too. Her identity might get caught. Double meaning there.

Min Woo wants Ji Sook to stay but she says that Seok Hoon is right. She’ll go to work. She has something to take care of as well. Seok Hoon says that he’ll see her later. He remembers… he’s been meaning to give this to Eun Ha since yesterday, but he forgot about it. It’s concert tickets and pamphlets. He heard her nanny is sick. She should go spend some time with her. Another veiled threat. Outside the hospital room, Ji Sook looks inside the envelope. Also included is a 100,000,000 KRW cashier’s check.

Min Woo is not eating – I guess his strength is back – and asks what Seok Hoon’s real reason for visiting. Seok Hoon is peeling an apple. Seok Hoon says that he already said; he was worried about Min Woo. Seok Hoon says that the family thinks he slipped and fell into the pool yesterday. Seok Hoon says that he knows it's not true. The incident when Min Woo’s wife fell into the pool before, honestly, he thinks it was Min Woo who did it. Min Woo nods slightly. That's why he’s worried. Eun Ha, Mi Yeon, the whole family could be in danger. Seok Hoon says that truthfully, he’s hoping Min Woo would admit himself to a hospital and focus on getting treated. Min Woo can’t help but smile. Seok Hoon wants him to admit himself to a psychiatric hospital? Seok Hoon says, yes, before he hurts his loved ones.

Worker2 is at work, relating what happened at the coffee shop. Cash was pouring out of the Director's bag. Where do they think that money came from? Manager asks if it’s the bribe money from the GueMi Yeonong Construction? Worker2 remembers that Min Woo was nitpicking on GeuMi Yeonong Construction. Mi Yeon is starting to look annoyed. Ji Sook looks upset, too. Worker3 tells Worker2 that she’s pretty sharp. Mi Yeon smacks her desk and says that Worker2 is sharp, her ass! Why would a person who has so much money like the Director take a bribe?

Manager laughs and says that she just doesn’t understand the psyche of those types of people. Mi Yeon rolls her eyes. The rich want to get richer. You can say it is like inertia rule. Worker 2 and 3 nod in agreement. Manager says that he feels pity for the one who committed suicide. To make such an irrevocable choice!... Ji Sook loudly stands and declares that the Director is not that kind of person. They don't know anything. She walks off. Worker2 shakes her head and tsks. She'll get her feelings hurt if she keeps liking the Director. They are so going to die when they find out she’s Min Woo’s wife. With all the stuff they’ve been saying.

Ji Sook looks at the cashier’s check and the tickets for the symphony. She thinks back to talking with Seok Hoon. Why does she think Min Woo jumped into the water? The place he needs to be is the hospital, not the company. She’s doing what’s best for Min Woo now. Ji Sook rips up the concert tickets.

She gives the check to Ji Hyuk, who gives it to Mom. Mom can’t bear to spend it, not knowing where it came from. Dad asks her to do it. Now is not the time to argue about the source of money. Mom can’t believe that Dad’s agreeing with Ji Hyuk. Mom says that Ji Hyuk took out a private loan, didn't he? He protests that it's not like that! Mom wants to know where the money’s coming from. Did he steal it?! Ji Hyuk jumps up and declares that he said it's not! Mom and Dad are shocked.

Ji Hyuk sits back down and asks if Mom will get the treatments if he says where the money came from. She nods she will. He says that the truth is Noona gave it to him. What is he thinking?

Ji Sook goes into the safe in Min Woo’s office. Their wedding picture is there. Also the key for his room. She almost gets caught by Worker2. Seok Hoon goes in to check on Min Woo, who has covered his head with a blanket. And is probably NOT still in his hotel room.

Ji Sook climbs up the spiral staircase with the book and the key. She thinks of how Seok Hoon said that Min Woo should be in the hospital. Why does she think he jumped into the water? Why does she think Seo Eun Ha died? If Ji Sook leaves him like this, he will kill someone else and ultimately kill himself as well. She knows, for a fact, that he has problems. As a wife, if she really cares for her husband, she’ll do it. Wow, he’s really playing that card.

Ji Sook opens the door with the key.

Seok Hoon decides to check Min Woo – and it’s pillows.

Ji Sook enters the room. A work bench with several partially-made violins. Tools. A collection of pictures of Min Woo with Oma. Murder board. Ji Sook looks in the book and finds paperwork for several construction agreements and a cashier's check for 2,000,000,000 KRW. Dang, that’s a lot of money. The contracts are between Min Woo and Scumbag. Ji Sook can’t believe what she’s just found.

Min Woo arrives. She hears him arrive, stuffs the incriminating evidence in her pocket and hurries out of the room. But not before he sees that she was in there. He asks what she just did there? She doesn’t say anything. He tells her to answer him. What did she just do there?!

Thoughts

Ji Hyuk doesn’t kill Scumbag but he ends up dead anyway. Seok Hoon is really scary in the depths of how low he’ll sink to get what he wants. And it looks like Min Woo tried to kill himself.

In this episode, Ji Hyuk finally knows that his Noona is alive. At least now she can get them the money she’s been collecting for them. I wonder what he’s going to tell Mom and Dad as far as how the money came from Noona.

And Loan Shark. I really wish he would disappear already.

How much longer is Ji Sook NOT going to tell Min Woo what’s going on? Over and over in this episode, he’s shown himself to be trustworthy and willing to sacrifice for her. He even helped her go do what she needed to do, even though she wouldn’t tell him what it was. And got money for some reason that she won’t explain either.

Min Woo’s dream, where it was inter-spliced with thoughts of Oma and thoughts of Ji Sook, combined with the song really got to me.

I think that Min Woo is starting to figure out that Seok Hoon is more dangerous than he originally took Seok Hoon to be. Their conversation about Min Woo being committed says that. I wonder, since Seok Hoon has installed a camera in Min Woo’s room, if he also didn’t install speakers, so Min Woo can hear whispers that he’s crazy.

Why has Seok Hoon halted his campaign to make Min Woo look unstable?

Why doesn’t Mi Yeon take a gander at her husband’s laptop to see what he looks at so often?

I think Ji Sook is finally getting the backbone she needs – because she’s realizing that Min Woo is in her corner and will back her no matter what. And she’s good at playing Seok Hoon, too.

I wonder how she’s going to get Min Woo out of this one, and if she’s finally going to explain. One can only hope, right?
