Mask Episode 6 Recap

Our episode starts with the magical dance… interrupted by Ji Hyuk. When Ji Sook sees him, she jumps back a little from Min Woo. He says her name again and all she can do is stare. Min Woo asks if Ji Hyuk is someone she knows. Seok Hoon is starting to sweat. Ji Sook has to lie. Poor Ji Hyuk’s face. She’s not very convincing and it’s obvious that it’s killing her to disown her brother. Min Woo nods for the guards to drag Ji Hyuk out of there. And he goes, kicking and screaming, crying “Noona” the whole time.

[Episode 6: Family, the memories that break the heart]

Breakfast the next morning. Mi Yeon brings up the incident the night before and says that Eun Ha doesn’t need to worry. The man that came looking for you while you were waltzing. The subtle glare from Seok Hoon shows his displeasure. Mi Yeon says it's already in the past. And she’s enjoying this way too much. She asks if it’s someone that Eun Ha used to meet. He called her "Noona." How old is he?

Dad looks over at Ji Sook, which gets Stepmom to say Mi Yeon’s name in a tone warning her to drop it. Min Woo, not looking up from his food, says that Eun Ha said it's a person that she doesn't know. Did Mi Yeon not hear? Or is she pretending not to hear? He sticks his steak in his mouth and it’s obvious he’s annoyed. Ji Sook is not eating.

Mi Yeon chuckles and says that if it’s someone she doesn't know then it's a relief. But why did that happen that day? It's so strange. Dad says, with a voice that demands the right answer, that there’s no way his new daughter-in-law could lie... He looks at Ji Sook as he asks “Agreed?” Ji Sook nods slightly.

Seok Hoon suggests that it also could have been a stalker. Wasn't there an incident like that when she went to study abroad that really worried her? I wonder how long it took for him to come up with that idea. You know he’s been trying to figure out how to do damage control since last night. He says that he’ll look into it. Don’t know if Dad quite buys that. Mi Yeon says that if it’s a stalker, when they should catch him and turn him over to the police. What if something big happens to her sister-in-law? Wow, that tone. Like she really cares. She is enjoying this too much. Seok Hoon says that he was thinking of that too. It could be big problem.

After breakfast, Ji Sook sadly walks up toward her room. Seok Hoon comes and asks his ‘sister in law’ for a chat. She tells him that she has to get ready to leave. She tries to walk away but he grabs her arm. Quietly, he asks how she could make her dongsaeng follow her all the way there? Why is she making matters more complicated? Instead of answering that, shesays he called her dongsaeng a stalker earlier.

Mi Yeon walks up into the conversation. Ji Sook asks if Seok Hoon had something to say? She’s got her mask back on. Now smiling – where before his face was threatening – he asks if Eun Ha has seen the stalker anywhere before? Even a little information–

He gets interrupted by Mi Yeon, who says that she’ll find the information. Ji Sook looks at her, alarmed. Mi Yeon adds that when people say the sky is blue, she doesn't believe it until she sees it for herself. She remembers that person, where she’s seen him. Flashback to when she saw Ji Hyuk by the gate. Mi Yeon smiles and assures Eun Ha that whether he’s a stalker or not, she’ll find out and let Eun Ha know. Mean girl smile.

Dad growls at Min Woo that today is his first day at headquarters, so he better make sure that nothing disturbing will happen. Jeez, Dad, he just did well. You can’t even give him that? Min Woo says that there won't be any problems. Dad’s already worrying, he won't add to it. As Min Woo walks away, I’m not sure what Dad’s face means.

Triumphant music as Min Woo enters the headquarters building. He enters the elevator and as it’s about to close, three harried employees grab it so they can get on. Min Woo waves his hand in front of his face a few times to clear the air as they stand in front of him. Heh. And theoffice gossip starts. Worker1 says that he’s heard that the new Chief Director’s personality is no joke. He throws a fit if he sees typos on reports. Worker2 says that she heard that he has a lot of wrinkles because he's always frowning. Behind them, Min Woo listens and sighs. His chin twitches, like he’s biting his tongue. He should add to the gossip.

Worker2 continues that he hasa pot belly and thinning hair, she feels bad for his wife. Min Woo looks at her like he can’t believe she just said that. Worker3 says that he heard the guy sees a psychiatrist. Min Woo’s eyes open wider at that one, a little nervous. Worker3 says that it’s because he has so much money. He must have gone crazy counting money. They laugh. Behind them, Min Woo is trying to keep it together.

They exit the elevator. Worker1 says that he’s been doing some calculations, and for people like the new Chief Director, he can spend tens of millions everyday and still have money left when he dies. The trio sighs. Worker3 wonders why the guy would he work when he has so much money. Worker1 agrees; that's what he’s saying. Worker2 asks if they should ask when the guy gets there? They laugh and notice that Min Woo is behind them.

Worker1 clears his throat and asks Min Woo what brings him there. Without looking at them, he replies that he came to work. He walks away. The trio wonder if it could possibly… Worker1 says that it can’t possibly be, because the new guy is expected in the afternoon. Worker2 worries that they’re going to get fired. She still has one year of her debt left! Worker1 protests that it’s not him!

Later, it’s a staff meeting, where Min Woo is, most definitely, the new Chief Director. And I am laughing, He says that they’ve heard many rumors about him. Some are correct and some are not. But one thing is certain. He came to this position working extremely hard. He looks over at the trio as he adds that coming there was as hard as he expects the road ahead to be hard, so, everyone, please help him. Not as a superior and subordinates but with friendly relations. Their path will be easier if they are together. Everyone claps, with the trio clapping the loudest.

Lackey is there. He gives Worker1 a slap on the arm and tells him to take care of Min Woo. Of course Worker1 will! Lackey leaves and the Trio starts to suck up. They didn’t expect him to be so young and handsome. Min Woo doesn’t smile. Worker1 asks Worker2, Miss Lee, if she cleaned up his office. She hasn’t. Worker1 wants to know why not?! He told her a week ago. Min Woo holds in his frustration and waves them to stop. He heads for his office.

Inside, he grabs some tissues and immediately starts to straighten out everything on his desk. The trio try to watch him. After a moment, he realizes that they might be doing that, so he looks in their direction. They pretend that they’re not. Like nothing’s the matter, he walks over and shuts his blinds so they can’t see in his office. Then as he starts to straighten things again, he stops himself and slaps some of the stuff so that it’s really crooked. He sits in his desk and exhales.

As he sits there with his eyes closed, he smiles as he thinks about dancing with Ji Sook. Then he remembers how Eun Ha told him that she has someone she loves and is planning on continuing to see even after their marriage. Could the guy from the reception be the person Eun Ha was talking about? That makes him stop smiling. He sighs and starts to straighten his desk again.

Stepmom is sharing what she's found on the ‘Nanny.’ They’re planning something. Ji Sook arrives; it’s obvious that she’s been summoned. Stepmom starts by asking about some posters, but it’s really a ruse to give Mi Yeon an opening to be obnoxious about the man from the party. Did she perhaps know that guy at the anniversary ceremony, but can't remember him? Ji Sook says that it’s not possible. Mi Yeon asks how she would whether she does or doesn't?

Mi Yeon holds up the dossier on Mom and asks if Ji Sook wants to see it. Stepmom says Mi Yeon’s name in a tone that asks what she’s doing. Mi Yeon says that it might jog someone of Eun Ha’s memories to see it. Isn’t Eun Ha curious. She holds it out to Ji Sook, who reluctantly agrees, since it could help her get her memories back. As Ji Sook is about to take it, Mi Yeon pulls it out of her reach and says that it wouldn't be any fun if she showed Eun Ha right now. Stepmom stifles a smile. Mi Yeon says that she'll show Eun Ha when her memories return so they can check whether her returned memories are correct or not. She hands it to Stepmom and says that she can hold onto it.

Ji Hyuk arrives at the Gallery. Mi Yeon is telling Ji Sook to start cleaning. Dad said that she has to move around a lot to get her memories back more quickly. Ji Sook is hesitating so Mi Yeon asks – with perfect Mean Girl tone – if she doesn’t want to. Ji Sook tells Mi Yeon to say why she doesn’t like her. Mi Yeon chuckles and asks what she’s saying. Ji Sook replies that she wants to live well with her family. She needs to know the reason to fix it.

Mi Yeon smiles and says that Eun Ha’s mistaking something. They aren't a family. They just live together. They just eat together. The only reason they eat together is because they need each other. There's no way they could be family. It’s not that she doesn't like her. She hates Eun Ha. She despises Eun Ha enough to want to kill her. Hmmm… Eun Ha will know the reason when her memories return. She might already know them now.

Ji Hyuk has entered and sees them. Ji Sook doesn’t see him, but Mi Yeon does. She orders Eun Ha to got clean the bathroom if she wants to keep eating together. Ji Hyuk hears that and walks away. Mi Yeon is done and walks away, too, but not before she shoves Eun Ha as she walks by. Ji Sook sighs and catches sight of Ji Hyuk’s reflection. But she doesn’t catch him.

Mi Yeon does, though. She blocks his way with her car and tells him to get in so they can talk. He asks why he has to talk to her. Mi Yeon smiles and says that she’ll let him meet Seo Eun Ha, so– She motions with her head that he should get in. Ji Hyuk replies that if he wants to meet her, he’ll meet her himself. Mi Yeon asks if he’s not curious about where she lives. He was dragged away when he tried to go to her house last time, right? Again, she mentions for him to get in.

Ji Hyuk agrees to talk, but he’s not getting in Mi Yeon’s car. He points to a coffee shop nearby for them to meet. Inside, Ji Hyuk’s body language is guarded. Mi Yeon asks what his relationship is with Seo Eun Ha. Since Ji Hyuk’s acting like this, it doesn't seem like an ordinary relationship. Ji Hyuk asks what ajumma’s relationship is. I love that he called her ajumma, since she’s not that much older than he is. Heh. I like him. He adds that it doesn't seem like they have a great relationship.

Mi Yeon chuckles and says that he must've been hurt, seeing how she bothered Eun Ha. Yeah, the Mean Girl voice is going to get him to cooperate. Ji Hyuk looks away. Mi Yeon leans forward and says that it doesn't seem like he dated Eun Ha, so did he just follow her around? Or did he get dumped so he wants to get revenge? No response from Ji Hyuk. Mi Yeon continues that seeing Seo Eun Ha get married, it’s driven him crazy and now he wants to see her... That's why he’s looking for her, right?

Ji Hyuk takes a drink and says that ajumma is right. What she said. All of it. Mi Yeon wasn’t expecting him to admit it so quickly. Ji Hyuk says that that's why he must know what Seo Eun Ah is thinking. So pass Seo Eun Ha that message. Until he knows, he'll keep following her. He’s a smart cookie. Very smart. Mi Yeon smiles and mutters that Seo Eun Ha's thoughts are very important, but isn't it more important to make her divorce? Whether he takes revenge or not, to make her return to him? Mi Yeon hands him her card and says that they should call each other. It seems that their goals are the same.

Headquarters. Worker1 is giving a presentation at a staff meeting. Min Woo isn’t really listening. He’s on his hand phone, composing texts that he doesn’t send:

I don't need to know who that man is, nor do I want to. Instead, just make sure this doesn’t happen again...

If I have an unanswered question, I can't focus on other things...

Who is that man? Tell me honestly. If she didn’t know him, why did he call her Noona?

As he thinks about that, some guy calling her Noona, he slams his fist down on the table. The entire meeting jumps in response. Min Woo looks at their shocked faces and then covers for himself, asking Worker1 what his point is. Worker1 sputters that Min Woo should do an interview for a women's magazine with his wife. Not smiling, Min Woo asks if Worker1 is done. When he says that he is, Min Woo doesn’t say anything, just gets up and leaves the meeting. Worker1 worries that this means that Min Woo won’t do it.

Min Woo tells Chang Soo to bring the car but stops when he notices the CCTV. Chang Soo asks if everything is fine. Min Woo replies that it's nothing. They head for the car.

Ji Sook is scrubbing a toilet. One of the other workers asks for Ji Sook to let her do it but Ji Sook tells the girl to go. Min Woo enters and asks what Ji Sook is doing. He’s offended that his wife is scrubbing toilets, and not because of the germs. She momentarily pauses and then goes back to scrubbing. He sighs and tells her to get out of the stall. She continues to scrub. He grabs her and pulls her out of it. She tells him to let her go, not looking at him. Min Woo snatches the toilet brush out of her hands and throws it to the floor. He pulls out his handkerchief and wipes off his hands as he repeats that he told her to come out.

Outside the bathroom, he asks her why on earth she would do that kind of work? A person like her? She asks him what's wrong with that kind of work? He replies that if she does that sort of thing, then people will take him lightly. Yeah, that’s why it bothers you. What if there is report stating that she’s having a rough time at the in-laws? What would people think? Yeah, this is the reason. They might say, ‘If he can't take care of his own wife, how could he take care of hundreds of thousands of employees?’ What will she do then?

Quietly, she apologizes. He asks why she’s sorry. He sighs and tells her not to work at the gallery anymore. He’ll tell Dad. She looks at him and asks why he’s really there? He didn’t come to say all that. He sighs and says that they should first eat. He’s hungry.

At the restaurant, Min Woo says that he doesn't normally like places like this. He’s there to be seen by others. Ji Sook is picking at her food. He asks if it doesn't taste good. She answers that it does. He says that her face says otherwise. She answers that it is tasty, really. And this annoys him. Probably thinks she’s moping over her lover. He asks what the problem is. Still not looking at him, she says that she’s wondering if she deserves to eat food like this.

Min Woo puts down his silverware. Is he afraid he might hurt her with them? He asks if this is because of that guy at the anniversary ceremony? She looks up at him but doesn’t say anything. He asks if the guy is the person she said she loves. No response. He asks if she’s feeling guilty. If not, just say so. She looks at him and tells him that he’s right. That guy is the one. The slight twitch in Min Woo’s face says that this hurts. She adds that that's why she shouldn't see him anymore.

He purses his lips and clenches his jaw. He sighs and tells her to go ahead and see him. That was one of their marriage conditions. Surprised, she asks if it’s really alright if she sees him every once in a while? Her face and voice is hopeful. Min Woo looks down and chuckles a bit bitter. Then he puts his mask back on and asks if that isn't up to her. But, she needs to be sure keep her promise... not to get caught. By her or anyone else. He came to say that. He wipes his face and throws the napkin down on the table ask he says that they should get up if their talk is finished. Wide angle shows that there’s no one else in the restaurant but them. He walks away and Ji Sook’s emotions are mixed.

Aw, poor Min Woo. He is totally jealous.

Mom is out of the hospital and is happy. They’re eating something tasty that Mom’s made. Dad starts to bring up Ji Sook and Mom assures him that she was hallucinating. Ji Hyuk claims that he has a stomachache and leaves the table. Mom glares at Dad for bringing it up.

In the bathroom, Ji Hyuk looks at Mi Yeon’s card.

Ji Sook has gone to Seok Hoon, saying that she wants to tell Ji Hyuk everything. She’ll make sure that he won't say anything to her parents. Things just happened the way they did. It can't be helped. Seok Hoon takes issue with "It can't be helped?" Seok Hoon reaches into his safe and pulls out a envelope. He smacks the contents on the table. Does she know what these are?

Seok Hoon gets up and walks over to her, which makes her nervous. And she should be. Suddenly, he grabs her by the back of the neck and shoves her face towards the stuff on his desk, telling her to look at them with her eyes wide open and see what these are. This is for her execution! One of the things on the desk is the results of the DNA test. Seok Hoon says that her identity would have been already revealed if he hadn’t have switched the results. He tells her that before she reveals all the secrets, he’ll have her killed because it "can't be helped."

He lets her go and tells her to go ahead and see her brother. Meet him and end it. Don't keep on trying to escape. His life depends on her. It's up to her whether he lives or dies. She asks if he’s threatening Ji Hyuk. Seok Hoon says that he won’t be killing Ji Hyuk. She will. It can't be helped. Ji Sook holds back tears.

Later that night, Min Woo is working at his desk. He asks Ji Sook if she’s going to bed already. Seeing her like that drains his energy. She slowly sits up and sadly sits there. That doesn’t make him feel any better. He mentions how her clothes are everywhere. Does she know how he hates chaos? She gets up and starts to put them away, but stops as she looks at her things in the closet. Min Woo looks at her and asks what her problem is now. She doesn't think she deserves to wear those clothes? She says that she doesn't think the clothes suit her. They feel like they aren’t hers.

Annoyed, he walks over to the closet. He declares that she should throw them away and starts hurling them to the floor. Throw all of them away! She wordlessly tries not to cry.

Min Woo goes for a drive, him driving and Chang Soo in the passenger seat. He asks Chang Soo why people get married. It is so horrifying, but people just do it as if it is a natural thing to do. Chang Soo asks if Min Woo doesn’t think that doing it is better than not doing it. It’s lonely to sleep alone every night. Chang Soo smiles a little.

Min Woo replies, asking if Chang Soo knows how annoying it is when someone flips over next to you when you are sleeping. She suffers every night with nightmares and is listless the next day. When she's right beside him, does Chang Soo know how much it drains him? Why isn’t she fighting back with the family members? Why does she just take it? Does she think he’ll will help her? There isn't one thing he likes about her! He punches the ceiling of the car to emphasize that.

Ji Sook is picking up the clothes that Min Woo threw on the floor. Yun Soo and Chul enter and say that they were asked to come reorganize the closet. She tells them that she’ll do it. Yun Soo replies that they need to, otherwise they’ll get scolded. So she lets them. Ji Sook asks where Min Woo is. They don’t know. Ji Sook asks if it wasn’t Min Woo that sent them? They reply that it was Seok Hoon who sent them. Ji Sook realizes that Seok Hoon must have a camera hidden someplace. She starts to look for it.

And Seok Hoon is watching it right now. Mi Yeon asks what he’s looking at and he lies and says that it’s financial data for a take over. Mi Yeon says that it must be important, since he’s working at home. He replies that the more information he has, the more his chance of winning increases. Mi Yeon agrees. We see that she’s looking at pictures of Seok Hoon with Eun Ha, giving her that necklace.

Ji Sook is getting ready. Or rather, staring off into space as she applies her makeup. Min Woo tells her not to go to the gallery but come with him. He has an important matter today and he told father that she’d be helping him for a while. Ji Sook puts the lipstick down – shu uemura lipstick, even though it only says ‘shu ue’ on the tube. Shu uemura make-up, named after its creator and “shaped on the founder’s holistic philosophy that ‘beautiful make-up starts with beautiful skin.’ Steeped in the tradition that quality skincare is essential to creating artistic make-up expression, shu uemura uses only the most innovative skincare formulas and breakthrough technologies to reveal every woman’s inner beauty. She says that she has a prior engagement. She looks like she’s going to her own execution. He asks what it is and gets, “An important one.” He reminds her that there is an interview at 2:00 pm for monthly magazine. She needs to remember that they married after they fell in love and not because of a contract. She says that she understands. He tells her not to be late and put him in an awkward position like the last time. And be sure to wear her wedding ring.

She gets out of her chair and looks around the room. Then she looks at Min Woo and asks how he lived in a place like this all this time. He’s taken a little aback by the question. Because no one’s probably ever acknowledged how hard it is to live there before. She tells him that she won't be late for their important meeting. She makes sure to put on her wedding ring.

Her important meeting is with Ji Hyuk. Which I figured it would be, given how she’s acting. She’s wearing huge sunglasses so he can’t see her eyes. He looks like he wants to explode but is containing himself. Seok Hoon and Minion are nearby, watching. She pulls out an envelope and slides it across the table to Ji Hyuk. Like she’s not Ji Sook, she says that she heard there is a person who looks like her, so she did some research. Ji Hyuk looks at the contents of the envelope: some pictures of Ji Sook and a DNA test. Ji Sook declares that they don't share the same bloodline. She was less educated and poor and just a nobody. Ouch. That’s cold. Even to be saying it about yourself. Ji Hyuk’s hurt by it, too.

Ji Sook declares that she’ll get to the point since she has an afternoon appointment. She pulls out a cash envelope and places it on the table. His family has a debt. Here is 500,000 KRW. He should pay it off with this. It isn't a huge sum of money to her, so he shouldn't worry about it. Ji Hyuk looks like he wants to be sick. Instead, don't look for her or bother her again. She says that she doesn't want to be involved in his affairs. She starts to flee, but he calls her ‘Noona!’ She stops.

He asks if she doesn’t remember him? They mimicked Superman when they were young. They wore capes and jumped off from the roof. She cried so much because he injured his arm. A tear rolls down her cheek – and is mostly hidden by the glasses. She is the one who saved their mother, too. She found their mother on the mountain!

Ji Sook’s starting to get really upset, so she cuts him off. Is 500,000 KRW not enough? She heard there is someone who looks just like her, so she just wanted to help, out of curiosity. And she asked him not to bother her, thinking he might be clingy. That's why she asked him not to meet her again. Ji Hyuk wants to talk to her without the sunglasses. So, he can see her eyes. Then, he’ll believe her. He reaches for the glasses but she smacks his hand away. He’s hurt by that. Without looking up at him, she says that she’s not his Noona. Take it while he can and leave quickly.

Ji Hyuk picks up the envelope. She tells him, “Good thinking!” With intensity, he starts to rip up the envelope. He throws the pieces on the table. He tells her that if it’s from his Noona, he’d take it. But if it's from a stranger, he’ll turn it down, because that would make him a beggar. He stands and promises that he won't find her anymore. The tears start to flow.

Outside, she slowly walks over to Seok Hoon and Minion. He tells her that she doesn't know until she gives it a try. Like that’s supposed to be comforting. He adds that she can do it when she tries it. She gets in the car. Seok Hoon gives Minion a nod before Minion gets in the car. Inside the car, Ji Sook tries not to sob.

Loan Shark. I am so tired of them both. Ji Hyuk bursts in and throws today’s collection on the table. His face is not just a little roughed up. Loan Shark tells him to take it easy. When Loan Shark asks what his secret is, since Loan Shark never thought they would collect this money, Ji Hyuk says that the thought of paying off their debt and quitting the job is enough motivation for him. Loan Shark invites Ji Hyuk to eat some of their chicken, but Ji Hyuk wants his next job. Loan Shark laughs and says that what he just brought was a big job. Ji Hyuk clarifies that he wants a job big enough to be done. When Loan Shark waffles, Ji Hyuk tells him to find one and walks out.

Ji Sook is late for their interview. Chang Soo asks if Min Woo would like him to call her and Min Woo answers that it's only been 5 minutes! Ji Sook arrives, looking somber. She weakly apologizes for being late. Min Woo sighs.

Min Woo is charming and Ji Sook is sedate. There are many rumors about their marriage, but, they pay no attention to them. They just love and cherish one other. Isn't that enough? Ji Sook adds that it is. Interviewer asks how they met. Min Woo says that it was through a mutual friend. Interviewer asks him to elaborate. He hadn’t thought of anything, but Ji Sook comes to the rescue: They met at an art exhibition when she was studying in France. He wanted to purchase her piece, offering a high price, but she told him it wasn’t for sale. Min Woo smiles like this, of course, is what happened. Ji Sook says that they started from there and met in Korea again, which ultimately led to marriage.

Photographer wants some pictures but Ji Sook can’t smile. She actually runs out of the interview. Min Woo chases her and catches her. He asks why she’s doing this? What is the problem? She replies that she doesn't want to lie like this. She can't! She looks at him and says that pretending they are happy and lying to others is difficult for him, too. He’s annoyed. As an answer, he pulls out his hand phone and orders them to cancel the interview and stop the article.

When he hangs up, he tells her they should stop the lies and be honest with each other. Where did she go this morning? What was it so important? She answers that they agreed not to question each other's private life. He chuckles. Yes, they did... But she keeps involving him. She’s his wife. His wife is looking like that after meeting another man, so how could he not worry about her? She tells him not to do this...The reason she married him– He says that he knows better than anyone, so, don't make him worry about her! Whether she lies or pretends! Don't make him worry about her. She doesn’t know how to react to that.

Min Woo looks at his watch. If they leave now, they’ll be back before dusk. She asks ‘where’ and he answers that he said that he has an important matter today. She asks if the interview wasn’t it. He frowns and takes her by the hand.

They drive. He asks if she isn’t curious about where they’re going. She replies that she’ll know when they get there. She apologies for ruining the interview; it wasn't her intention. He tells her that it’s fine if she knows that she messed up. They both start to talk at the same time. He tells her to go first and she tells him that he should. He says that it’s nothing important. He adds that what he said earlier, don't worry about it… the part where he said that he worries about her. So what does that mean? Ji Sook is smiling, so it must mean that he doesn’t mind that he worries. He asks what she was going to say. She says that she ended it with ‘him.’ He won’t bother them anymore. No response from Min Woo.

At Casa Choi, Dad is drinking tea and hearing Chul report that Min Woo had not problems at work today. Every time I see this man, I like Dad less. The employees are positive about him, as well. Dad closes his eyes and ‘The Blue Danube’ record plays. Stepmom comes in and starts to say something but stops. Chul clears his throat – like he’s getting Dad’s attention. Dad opens his eyes and when he notices Stepmom, he jumps to his feet, dropping his tea to the floor. He yells at her for startling him and coming in without a sound. He stomps off. Stepmom looks at the date: June 11, 2015. When Chul says something to be mollifying, she screams at him to turn the record off. Immediately! What’s the big deal about the date?

Mi Yeon is drinking wine with a straw. Stepmom enters and demands a strong drink. Stepmom tells Mi Yeon not to lose the company! She'll go nuts if that happens! Mi Yeon asks what’s the matter. Stepmom asks if she knows what happened today. Mi Yeon answers that it is the memorial day. Ah.

Min Woo has taken Ji Sook to where Oma’s ashes are. The picture there is Oma and Min Woo; he’s holding a violin. He says that he wanted to show his mother to the person he got married to. She looks at the wedding ring on her finger. He says that when he played violin with his small hands, Oma liked it a lot. He says that his memories of her are fading... If he’d known this, he would have taken a lot of pictures of her.

He says that they should go see her biological mother and asks when her memorial day is. She shakes her head and tells him not to worry about it. She tells him that she’ll wait outside. As she leaves, a violin starts to play ‘The Blue Danube.’ She stops and turns around. It’s Min Woo playing for his mother. And making me cry. After watching him for a moment, she shakes her head to get ahold of herself and leaves.

She goes and sits by the river. She looks at her wedding ring. She says that if Mom saw this ring, she'd be busy showing this off to her friends. She sighs and says that he should have given her a plain one, rather than one that was so pretty. She fights with the ring to get it to come off, and when it does, it flies into the river. She climbs in after it. Doesn’t she know how his mother died?

Gun Woo heard her cry, “Omo!” He hurries to the river and finds her standing in it, looking for the ring. Vision of Eun Ha floating in the pool. He asks if she’s okay. She says that she is, and keeps looking. He doesn’t want to look at the water. He tells her to get out now! She doesn’t want to. The ring just dropped. He replies – starting to sounds a little desperate – that he will find a new one for her. Just get out now! She’s shocked by the ferocity of his voice. She asks if he’s saying they should just throw away the diamond ring and go. He replies that he said he’d buy her another one exactly the same. She doesn’t want to give up. He asks himself why that ring is so important.

She finds it. Smiling, she starts to put it back on. As she walks back to the bank, she slips and falls in. She starts to float away, but he’s able to grab her hand and pulls her out of the water. The ring slips off again and down the river. Sad, she asks what she should do. She lost the ring. He yells at her – obviously freaked out – if she’s in her right mind right now?!! She weakly replies that it’s her wedding ring. How can they just leave the wedding ring? He exhales.

As they drive back to the city – and she’s wearing his jacket – Min Woo says that he didn’t realize that the ring was so meaningful to her. She replies that it’s because he gave it to her. Aw. She mentions him playing the violin. He says that he’s okay. He brought home trophies from competitions when he was young. But he doesn’t play anymore? Only days like today, because he doesn't have anyone to listen to it.

The car clanks, sputters and ultimately dies. In the middle of the road. Min Woo checks under the hood and says that someone tampered with his car. Someone did this on purpose. He pulls out his phone. No service. Min Woo is not happy. He gets back in the car and it’s dead.

Mi Yeon and Stepmom are still drinking. She tells Stepmom that no matter what Stepmom says, she has no ill feelings towards Min Woo. They may have different mothers but they are still siblings. Stepmom tells her to stop talking nonsense. Mi Yeon’s okay with Min Woo getting the house and the company?! Mi Yeon gives Stepmom a look and says that even so, she has no ill feelings toward Min Woo.

Min Woo and Ji Sook are walking. Even wearing Min Woo’s suit jacket, she’s cold. Still no phone service. Noticing that she’s still dripping, Min Woo asks if she’s cold and she says that she’s okay. He tells her that her clothes won't dry because of the high humidity. He tells her that they have no idea when they'll see a car pass by, so she should take off those clothes. Shocked, she asks what she’s supposed to wear if she takes of her clothes. He tells her to listen to the end of his sentence. Take off those clothes, wring out the water then put them back on. She asks where she’s supposed to do this. Min Woo looks around and points at some boulders. Ji Sook hesitates. What if someone sees? Then they get to go home. Heh. Dork.

As she goes behind the boulders, Ji Sook tells him turn around and not to look. He asks why he would. Because you like her, that’s why. As she starts to disrobe, he peers behind him to take a peek. She spots him and yells at him not to look. He acts like he was stretching and, like it’s a chore, says that he's looking the other way.

When she emerges, she asks what he’s looking at. He tells her that her belt is backward. She fixes it, but he’s still looking at her. When she questions it, he steps closer, which unnerves her a little. Peering at her, he tells her that her lips are blue. He touches her forehead with his finger and says that she has a fever. He pokes her arm and says that her muscles are rigid as well. This won't do. They should go back to the car. He tells her that she's been in the cold for too long.

Seok Hoon enters the bedroom where Mi Yeon is eating. He asks if she didn’t already eat. She says that even though she eats and eats, she’s still hungry. He asks about the wine. She says that she can't seem to get drunk. He tells her to drink moderately. She needs to think about her health. She asks if something’s the matter?

He turns around and sits by her. He asks what’s wrong. She tells him not to worry about it. She doesn't want to say it. He says her name, asking her to talk. She takes a big gulp of wine and asks if loves her. He replies that he said so. The person that he loves is no one but her. He married her because he loved her. If there was any other reason, he’d leave right now. She tells him that she loves him, too. And she loves Min Woo as well. She hopes that Min Woo and his wife can live happily together. It would be good if they truly loved each other. Seok Hoon straightens his tie – revealing his discomfort over that idea – and says that that’s the way it should be.

Mi Yeon asks if Seok Hoon knew that today is Min Woo mother's Memorial Day? She told Min Woo to take his wife to his mother to show her face. Min Woo and his wife are together now. Seok Hoon asks what her point is. She laughs as she says that she thought that a hot blooded young couple could fall in love if they are stranded on an island. Seok Hoon uncomfortable face. So, she tampered Min Woo's car. Seok Hoon worried face. She says that she made those two stranded on an island.

Seok Hoon looks at his watch. Is this why they are still not home? Mi Yeon points out that he said that he’d would like it if it worked out well between the couple. Seok Hoon says that they could get in an accident. He pulls out his phone, but neither of them have cell service. He grabs his suit jacket to leave. Mi Yeon tells him not to leave. If he loves her, he won’t leave. He tells her that he’s sincere when he says that he loves her. And then he leaves. Mi Yeon holds back the tears.

Now in the car, Min Woo apologizes for bringing them there. She tells him that it’s not his fault. She caused this because of the ring... He looks over at her, where she’s shivering. He says that it’s been hard on her. The feeling of being left alone in a strange place, that fear and loneliness. She knows about those very well. He came alone to his father's place when Oma passed away. Ji Sook’s surprised that Min Woo didn't live with Dad when he was young. Min Woo says that he didn't even know about his father's existence. Perhaps, it would have been better.

Despite living with them for a few decades, he still feels like he did at first. He sighs and asks what he’s rambling about? Ji Sook says that it’s night time. She heard people get sentimental at night time. Aw. He smiles slightly at that. She’s really cold. He looks at her and tells her not to take this the wrong way, but, she should get out of those wet clothes. She answers that she’ll be colder if she takes them off.

Now Min Woo definitely wants her to take them off, if she’s that cold. She could get hypothermia. Weakly, she says that she doesn't want to. She doesn't even have energy to take them off. He tells her that he’ll step out of the car. She tells him not to go. If she's alone, she’ll get scared. She shivers for a little more and then passes out.

Seok Hoon is frantically driving. He comes across the car. Hurrying up to it, he sees Min Woo and Ji Sook in the back seat. They are not wearing their clothes. He smiles and thinks about how he told Ji Sook to make Choi Min Woo hers. Take his body first, then she’ll have his heart, too. As he looks at them, he stops smiling. A little Seo Eun Ha envy, perhaps? Min Woo lifts his head, to see Seok Hoon looking at them.

Thoughts

This was a hard episode for Ji Sook. She spent most of the episode emotionally burdened. First, she had to disown her brother in front of Min Woo. Then she had to disown him to his face. That was so hard for her that she had to hide her face behind sunglasses to not give herself away. She continues the ruse that Ji Hyuk is the lover that Min Woo knows about – put I wonder, has she ever tried to figure out who that lover just might be? Has she ever had an inkling that it *might* be Seok Hoon, from how he acts from time to time?

The one positive that came out of the whole thing is Min Woo feeling jealous. Even though he would deny that. Her hurting already bothers and distracts him. I wonder if Chang Soo has figured out that his boss is in love with the wife. And since Ji Sook told him that she broke it off, I wonder how he feels about that.

Watching Mi Yeon’s scenes with Seok Hoon, I’m struck by how truly screwed up their relationship is. Yes, he’s lying about the affair, but she knows this. And yet, she continues to do manipulative things to try to make him hers, even though she knows she’s going to lose. Does she even really love him? Why doesn’t she bust him with her proof? Why is she focusing her anger on Eun Ha, when the fault lies with Seok Hoon to begin with? And what are she and Stepmom planning, since they have that dossier on Mom? And since Ji Hyuk is in Mi Yeon’s sights now.

One thing that I found interesting is how Mi Yeon, despite Stepmom’s machinations and manipulations that she plays along with, genuinely loves her brother. It doesn’t matter to her that they’re not full-blooded siblings. I wonder what she would think if she found out that Seok Hoon has slowly been drugging Min Woo so that the man acts and thinks that he’s losing his mind. I think if it were me, I could stand up for my brother even when I wouldn’t stand up for myself.

Min Woo brought Ji Sook to meet his mother. It was very sweet, even though he didn’t tell her *where* they were going. What is it with not telling the girl you like that you want her to come with you to the grave? (Gun Woo did the same thing in ‘Maendorong Ttottot.’) Is it because that’s such a vulnerable thing that they don’t want to risk rejection? And yet they still want their girl there for the emotional support. In both cases, they didn’t go to the grave with anyone before she came along.

Because of the visit, we discovered that Min Woo plays the violin. I wonder if this is going to come into play later.

This episode, we also discover that there is something wrong with Dad (hearing-wise) that Dad is not telling anyone about. How is that going to play out?

I enjoyed Min Woo at work. I look forward to how he’s going to torment the Trio in the future, since they like to gossip. I loved how he bided his time so that they really felt crappy. I also like that he’s getting some recognition, the kind that he should be getting at home but goes unspoken. Except by Ji Sook, who went as far as ask him how he’s lived in the house for so long with it being so loveless and manipulative. (She didn’t use those exact words, but that was her question, how he survived all this time.) I think she’s the first person that has acknowledged just how lonely Min Woo’s life really is. I mean, the man didn’t even date for fear of getting close to someone. His fear went so far as to manifest itself into a germ phobia.

I wonder how long it’s going to take Ji Sook to figure out that Min Woo is being drugged. Since she’s been around, he had a lot fewer episodes. And I wonder if Stepmom is in on the stuff that Seok Hoon is doing. I mean, she just happened to appear after Min Woo saw the body (that wasn’t there) in the pool. And she’s always so nice to provide a back-handed compliment.

I wonder what Ji Hyuk is thinking and when he’s going to see Ji Sook again, because I can’t see him just giving up. I am a bit worried about that job he’s looking to get from Loan Shark.

More than once, Ji Sook has shown that she doesn’t think herself above anyone else: by wanting to clean up her own clothes and not letting someone else scrub the toilets. I wonder why Min Woo considers it a bad thing, something that would lose him respect if she were seen doing it. And does he really think it’s a bad thing, because I suspect that he really doesn’t, he just is supposed to think that or get berated and abused by Dad.

The incident by the river made me wonder if Ji Sook knows how Min Woo’s mother died. Because why would she wander out into the river, knowing that, when it’s obviously going to freak Min Woo out? I think, though, that it was significant (for Min Woo definitely) that she was trying to find her wedding ring. Even when he said that he would replace it, she didn’t want to stop because it was her wedding ring. You don’t care about the marriage; you won’t care about a ring. It’s the little things like this which are going to get him to completely trust and fall in love with her.

The episode ended with them naked in a car and Seok Hoon finding them. I wonder what Ji Sook is going to think in the morning. And how is Min Woo going to act, since now he’s seen *her* naked and wasn’t too drunk to remember. And how is Seok Hoon going to explain finding them?
