Mask Episode 12 Recap

Mask_E12_001

Episode starts with a flashback, of Eun Ha and Seok Hoon. Why?! I don’t want to see this! I want to see now, with Ji Sook and Min Woo. Groan. It’s probably important. They’re sitting on a bed with Eun Ha’s birthday cake: July 2, 2014. She’s 26. She asks him if it’s that hard? She looks at him and says that it's not even that hard. Seok Hoon squirms. She’s trying to make him sing ‘Happy Birthday.’She smiles at him, encouraging him. He can’t get the words out and declares that he can't do it. She sighs, disappointed, and blows out her candle.

He smiles at her and claps. She rolls her eyes at him. He presents her with a big basket full of flowers and wishes her happy birthday. She says that he didn't just get flowers for her birthday, did he? She finds The Necklace in the bouquet. She chuckles and acts like she’s not pleased. Who said she likes receiving this kind of gift? He smiles at her and says that she will like it. Because it's from him. He comes over to her and has her stand so he can put it on her neck.

She tells him that she will answer him in one year... whether she will follow his plan or not. Until then, they should just think about good things. He tells her that they can do it. It’s the only way that they can live together. She smiles. He puts the necklace on her and it fades a little, but it’s wide when she faces him again.

In the present, Seok Hoon looks at his phone: it’s Eun Ha’s birthday (July 2nd). He’s meeting with Ji Sook. She reminds them about their agreement. She gave him the video showing him killing a person and he leaves Min Woo alo– Seok Hoon cuts her off to tell her that he never wants to hear her say those things. He will fulfill the agreement. And it seems like he doesn’t want to hear her refer to Min Woo with affection. His voice is soft and ominous. Ji Sook ignores it. She asks if he handled the video that Mi Yeon took. He holds up the smashed watch.

Flashback to Mi Yeon trying to decide what to do with the video. She gets an alert on her phone, saying that she’s a week late with her period. She's happy. She hurries in to tell him the news. She gives him the positive pregnancy test and tells him that she will believe his lies, for the sake of their baby. She hands over the smashed watch.

In the present, Seok Hoon says that this is evidence that there is a God and he’s helping them with the things that they are doing. She tells him that he’s crazy. He replies that if there are lots of crazy people, a crazy person can appear normal. They’re normal. Seo Eun Ha. He starts to walk away but stops. He tells her – and his voice sounds sad – “Congratulations.” When she asks for what, he says that it’s her birthday.

[Episode 12 – Unhappy happiness]

Breakfast. Mi Yeon is telling them about her weird dream with a cat that turns into a tiger. Stepmom is overjoyed. Mi Yeon had a pregnancy conception dream about a tiger! And didn't she say she also had a dream about a dragon?! Min Woo and Ji Sook smile and wish her congratulations. Dad grunts. He declares that they should have a congratulatory party today. Mi Yeon sighs and says that suddenly the taste of meat makes me throw up. Stepmom is giddy again at Mi Yeon’s pregnancy.

Yun Soo arrives with a present, for Eun Ha’s birthday. Dad grunts happily and orders Yun Soo to prepare for a congratulatory dinner tonight. Stepmom asks who the present is from. Yun Soo says that Eun Ha sent it to herself. Ji Sook’s surprised. Yun Soo says that the business said that she sent it to herself a year ago.

Back in the bedroom, Ji Sook opens the present. It’s a red dress and a white dress. There’s also a note. It says “Whether I accept... or refuse... after a year, I hope I will be living a life without regret.” There’s a locket and a key in the envelope as well.

Mask_E12_015   Mask_E12_016   Mask_E12_017

Min Woo is getting dressed. He remembers the night before, smashing the pills and upending the table. His eyes are a little watery. He walks into the sitting area, where Ji Sook is. She asks if he’s okay and he says that he will be. He tells her that it’s her birthday. She needs to be pretty for her birthday. She smiles and asks if she should. She tells him to pick which of the dresses she should wear. He replies that it’s pretty. She asks which dress and he says her. Wear any dress. Both are pretty. He leaves the room.

Creeper Seok Hoon is watching. Flashback. Eun Ha says that she doesn’t know which dress she will wear in a year. Seok Hoon has to promise, though. He will abide by her decision unconditionally. If she wears the white dress and shows up in front of him on her birthday, it means that she will go along with his plan. If she wears the red dress, it means she will not. Uh-oh. He’s going to read into whatever Ji Sook chooses. Don’t wear either of them.

Mask_E12_022   Mask_E12_024   Mask_E12_025

Mi Yeon is telling Chul to make her congratulatory cake five tiers. He's not going to make her cake smaller than her sister-in-law's, right? Chul says that he won’t. Yun Soo suggests the cakes be the same size. Mi Yeon smiles at her and asks what she thinks. Yun Soo thinks Eun Ha would like that! Mi Yeon yells “Ya!” at her. Stepmom tells Mi Yeon to chill; it’s not good for the baby. Only think good thoughts. Mi Yeon smiles and says to make mine big. Make Eun Ha’s a single layer. As Mi Yeon walks away, Yun Soo mutters, irritated.

Seok Hoon takes Mi Yeon and Stepmom shopping. First stop: rosa.K. According to the website: "Specializing in luxury bags made with leather materials and matching accessaries, rosa.K's items are known for their high quality and unique designs. All products are hand-sewn, providing one-of-a-kind collections to rosa.K clientele." In other words, mucho dinero.

Mask_E12_026   Mask_E12_027   Mask_E12_028

Seok Hoon gives his perfunctory: Looks sharp. You look great. It suits you. He looks extremely bored, like he hates how shallow they are for getting such a kick out of shopping. At some point, Mi Yeon looks at him and says that something feels empty. There's no meaning if they just shop like this. They have to treasure and keep these moments forever. Big goofy smile. Mi Yeon touches her stomach and says, right, baby? Seok Hoon blinks at her. His face looks like he’s going ‘does not compute.’ Mi Yeon makes him pose for some selfies. And Seok Hoon’s face looks like it still doesn’t compute. He finally gets a phone call and has to leave. Mi Yeon isn’t even upset (even though Stepmom is). She lets him go with a big smile.

Mask_E12_033   Mask_E12_034   Mask_E12_035

Meanwhile, Ji Sook’s friends are getting screamed at by Manager and are ordered to clean out some old files. They come across Ji Sook’s resume and are sad. In cleaning out things, Mal Ja collides with Stepmom and Mi Yeon ends up spotting Ji Sook’s resume.

Min Woo is driving, thinking of Doc Kim and how he made sure that he was taking those hallucinogens. He gets a call from Chang Soo telling him that Doc Kim’s been arrested. Min Woo’s not happy, because he was on his way to confront the good doctor. He turns around and heads to the jail. Once Doc Kim is in front of him, he asks when Doc Kim started feeding him the fake medicine? Why did he do it? Doc Kim says that he just did what he was supposed to do. Because he was on Seok Hoon’s payroll.

Mask_E12_036   Mask_E12_038

Min Woo asks what he’s saying. Doc Kim says that he really wanted to cure Min Woo, so he used a different method. Min Woo asks if Doc Kim really expects him to believe that now? Does Doc Kim have any idea what he went through because of it? Doc Kim says that he’s saying that it’s not because of him. It’s not his fault! Doc Kim tells Min Woo that he must continue with treatment. If not from him, then get treated by another doctor. This guy, with how he keeps saying Min Woo’s name, is killing me. Like he’s a benevolent Dad or something.

Min Woo slams his fist on the glass between them. Doc Kim leans backward, shocked by the  intensity. Min Woo tells him to just stop it. Stop. He gives Doc Kim one last look and leaves.

Seok Hoon is there. He sees Min Woo leave and goes to see the good Doc himself. He tells Doc Kim to just hang on for a little bit longer, he’ll come to get him out soon. And, boy, with lighting, he reminds me of a turtle.

Black-Turtle   SeokHoonTurtle   Crushs-Coaster-02

Seok Hoon asks if Doc Kim can wait for him quietly. Doc Kim sighs and nods. Seok Hoon reminds him that they are on the same side with the same goal. And why is he trusting him. Seok Hoon is completely expressionless and unremorseful. A giant turtle, I’m tellin’ ya.

News reports that a university hospital professor is arrested for conducting an illegal clinical trial for depression medication. Picture of Doc Kim and a bottle of pills that looks exactly like that Min Woo has been taking. Reporters says that Professor Kim of Neuropsychiatry was testing the drug he developed for depression, and conducted a clinical trial on general patients without their consent. Without their consent. Dad is NOT happy.

Ji Sook visits a country house, using a key that she got from Eun Ha’s house. Painting supplies. A smiling portrait of Seok Hoon hangs on the wall. If this doesn’t clue you to Eun Ha’s former lover being Seok Hoon, then nothing will. Ji Sook takes the portrait off the wall – it’s as if she can’t having it staring down at her and smiling like that. Behind the portrait is a briefcase. Inside are photos of Eun Ha and Seok Hoon together, obviously a couple, as well as Eun Ha’s diary.

Mask_E12_039   Mask_E12_041   Mask_E12_042

Ji Sook opens the diary. The front page has a photo of a smiling Seok Hoon – a smile that is genuine, relaxed and actually happy. The next page has the word “Snap Dragon” written on them along with a bunch of Korean writing. Next page is Seok Hoon’s graduation ceremony. Next page is the photo they took a year ago. Below it is written: "Love paralyzes reason." "Love paralyzes the soul." That’s kind of creepy. Makes me wonder what Eun Ha is thinking about her relationship with Seok Hoon. Next page asks, “Am I really making the right choice?” Next page asks, “Can I really kill Choi Min Woo?” What! *Kill* him?

Flashback. Eun Ha stands beside the decision dresses. Seok Hoon says that if all the plans fail, ultimately they have to kill Choi Min Woo. What is he thinking? Why has he focused on Min Woo? This totally makes no sense. Eun Ha looks at him and he tells her that they can do it. But what about the guilt afterward? Well, we already know that Seok Hoon doesn’t have guilt over killing someone (Scumbag aka Jeong Tae). So he’s not like Raskolnikov, because Raskolnikov’s guilt eventually got to him. I guess he’s a “remarkable man” after all. Ji Sook realizes just how serious this all is.

Mask_E12_043   Mask_E12_046   Mask_E12_047

She immediately heads back to the head office and straight into Min Woo’s office, ignoring Manager’s greeting. Min Woo is hanging up his suit jacket. She hurries over to him, reaches up and – instead of doing a back hug like I was expecting – lightly places her hands on his back and leans her head against his back. He doesn’t turns around, but he’s puzzles at what she’s doing. She doesn’t answer. He says her name (Seo Eun Ha-shi), in a tone that asks what’s wrong, and she quietly says that she’ll stay next to him. She’ll always be next him. He doesn’t say anything – but the flare of his nostrils and the rapid blinking say that it affected him (in a positive way, of course). And I would classify that as a non-declaration declaration of love.

Stepmom and Mi Yeon are with Manager, Mal Ja and Myung Hwa. Stepmom is shocked by the resemblance. Mi Yeon wonders if they could be twins and then she says that she doesn’t want to think about it. She just wants to think about her baby now. Oh, I really hope that she doesn’t lose this baby. With how absolutely happy she is right now, that could send her off the deep end. Stepmom hits her and asks if Mi Yeon realizes how much this information is worth. She demands that they produce Ji Sook. Myung Hwa tells them that Ji Sook died.

Mask_E12_048   Mask_E12_050   Mask_E12_051

Ji Sook and Min Woo are out for lunch. He asks why she acted that way earlier. She asks what he means. Suddenly she... he illustrates with his hands. And I laugh. She squirms slightly and says that they can do that since they are a married couple. Instead of telling him that Eun Ha and Seok Hoon were planning on killing him and Seok Hoon probably *still* is planning on killing him. Min Woo puts his hands down.

Food comes. Aw, he took her to her favorite restaurant. She tells him to eat up! This food is the best when your stomach feels empty. He agrees and says they should eat first. As he starts to eat, she asks if he wants to hear a tip, a trick she uses when she’s going through a hard time. She leans forward and says that he should empty his mind and then hum to himself. If you keep having bad thoughts, they will get worse and worse. That's why you don't think about anything else and just hum to yourself. Then you feel better. She smiles. He tells her that he’s not exactly in the mood where he wants to be humming. She looks down, disappointed.

Mask_E12_052   Mask_E12_054   Mask_E12_055

He adds that he’ll try since it’s her birthday. Nice smile from Ji Sook as a reward. And since it is her birthday, is there anything she wants for your birthday? She says that there is. When he asks what it is, she says to see you smile. She laughs and has a big smile on her face. He grins in spite of himself as he goes back to eating. Because that was too sweet. All she needs is to see him happy. Aw.

Mi Yeon goes to Ji Sook’s family’s house and runs into Ji Hyuk. She also sees a picture of Ji Sook with the family. She starts to put the pieces together – that Ji Hyuk must be the brother and not a former lover – and says that she has the feeling that his noona is still very much alive. Even though Ji Hyuk tells her several times that Ji Sook is dead and to get lost, Mi Yeon’s not convinced.

Loan Shark. So tired of this character and his bad, bad hair. He gets arrested as a suspect for burglary. At the police station, Loan Shark protests that he wouldn’t steal a lady's under garments in the middle of the night. But they have evidence: fingerprints on a pack of cigarette found at the scene. It’s revealed that Seok Hoon is behind the arrest. Seok Hoon tells his man to keep Loan Shark locked up until Loan Shark regrets it.

Mask_E12_056   Mask_E12_057   Mask_E12_058

Chang Soo and Min Woo are in his office, trying to brainstorm present ideas for Eun Ha. Chang Soo does a web search and suggests a flower bouquet made out of money; that would sure make Chang Soo happy. Min Woo looks at him and asks if he really thinks Eun Ha would like it?! Chang Soo stops smiling and shakes his head ‘no.’ Another suggestion: put balloons in the car trunk. And then Min Woo jumps out of the trunk. Surprise! Min Woo groans loudly and grabs his forehead in frustration.

Mask_E12_059   Mask_E12_061   Mask_E12_062

Chang Soo puts down his phone and says that if Min Woo put his heart into the gift, regardless of what it is, she will like it, because it’s coming from him. He looks up at him through his hands and likes that idea. She would, right? Chang Soo tells him “Of course!” It’s something he’s good at: Staring at her intensely and then bam! Giving her a gift. His imitation of Min Woo’s staring is hysterical. Bam! Min Woo is nodding and liking this idea.

Mask_E12_063   Mask_E12_064   Mask_E12_065

Chang Soo suggests that Min Woo practice. When Min Woo hesitates, Chang Soo asks if it’s too hard to practice for a birthday that comes once a year? He proceeds to act like a girl. It’s quite funny. Especially when he pushes imaginary hair behind his ear. Min Woo looks at him and asks what he’s doing. Chang Soo tells him to just think of me as Madam and gather his emotions. You can hear Min Woo reach up and mentally touch the bridge of his nose in an attempt not to yell. Min Woo wordlessly waves at Chang Soo to leave. Then he rubs his temple because his brain hurts.

Mask_E12_067   Mask_E12_068   Mask_E12_070

Ji Sook and Ji Hyuk meet. He’s told her about Mi Yeon’s visit. It seems awkward rather than relaxed. They discuss Mom’s upcoming hospital with Korea’s best hepatologist. People wait a year to get a consultation with him. She also gives him a cashier’s check and says that they don’t need to worry about money anymore. He asks if she was the one who made Loan Shark kneel to them. She says that she was. She says that someone once said that if you don't have money, you will kneel, and if you have money, you will make others kneel. That's how the world works. We indirectly heard this quote in the first episode when Min Woo quotes Dad back to him. So this must be something that Dad says often enough that she’s heard it. She tells Ji Hyuk that they won't have to kneel down anymore. The conversation finally relaxes when Ji Sook shows Ji Hyuk the shirt she’s bought him. He grumbles about her taste and she just tells him to wear it.

Mom goes to her appointment. Doctor says that symptoms of her disease don’t show up until the liver is 80% destroyed. Oh, Mom’s probably going to die. That sucks. This is a k-drama after all. Doctor prescribes some treatment and tells her to prepare for a liver transplant. Oh, so maybe not. They need to find a match from a family member.

Loan Shark is released from jail. Minion approaches and says that it’s a pity he had to endure such a shameful experience. Minion hopes these things don't happen again in the future. Loan Shark meets with Seok Hoon. Loan Shark is stupidly overconfident. Minion is humiliated by having to run and add some syrup to Loan Shark’s iced coffee. Minion is not happy at all. And is definitely counting the minutes until Seok Hoon gives him the word that he can kill Loan Shark. I think Minion is actually going to enjoy that job.

Loan Shark thinks that he will be getting some money soon. A lot of it. Seok Hoon says that if you give food to a dog, it thinks you are a god. If you give food to a cat, it thinks it is a god. To Seok Hoon’s regret, Loan Shark is not a dog. Who knew Seok Hoon could be finny.

Mask_E12_071   Mask_E12_072   Mask_E12_074

Loan Shark thinks that he has nothing to be afraid of, since he has evidence that Byeon Ji Sook is pretending to be Seo Eun Ha and Seok Hoon killed Kim Jeong Tae because he found out about it. Seok Hoon asks what he wants and Loan Shark says that he wants exactly half of the money Seok Hoon’s going to get. Seok Hoon can't have it all by himself anyway, because it is too much. And this is how greed kills you. Seok Hoon says that Loan Sharkdreams big, doesn't he? Loan Shark replies that bigger is better. Seok Hoon asks what will happen if he says no. Loan Shark says that they’ll go to hell together. Or they could go to heaven together, too. I wonder how much longer this guy is going to be alive. Seok Hoon reacts with a small smile.

Celebration party. White girls alert! Mi Yeon’s cake is 5 tiers and gives congratulations for her pregnancy Eun Ha’s is only 1 tier, as ordered, but it’s just as tall as the 5 tiers together, and wishes Eun Ha a happy birthday.

Mask_E12_078   Mask_E12_080   Mask_E12_082

Min Woo is meeting with Dad and Stepmom. She says that she heard about what happened. How could he feed Min Woo medicine that was experimental? Even though I really think she knew about it all along. Dad says that it’s been rough emotionally for him, hasn't it? Dad will make sure that Doc Kim will get the maximum punishment allowable by law. So, Min Woo won't feel wronged. And he will soon find another doctor for him, the best doctor in Korea. Min Woo looks at him, surprised. Dad tells Min Woo not to worry about anything and focus on his treatments only. Min Woo says that he understands. And I think he’s a little hurt that Dad still thinks he needs them. I don’t blame him. It’s because of Doc Kim that Min Woo is so messed up.

Min Woo notices Chul pouring some wine and has a flash of memory from beside the pool. He swigs the wine and falls to the ground, drugged. He sees Eun Ha stumble as she walks toward *Mi Yeon.* Wow – how are they going to explain that one? Even though it is the only logical choice. He shakes his head, surprised. As he walks through the party, he thinks about what Ji Sook said about emptying his mind and humming. It helps. Or more specifically, thinking of her laughing as she tells him that just seeing him smile is gift enough.

Mask_E12_083   Mask_E12_084

Seok Hoon is meeting with Maid. She apologizes and says that she can't do it anymore. He asks if the money isn’t enough. He’ll pay her three times more than what she is getting now. Maid looks burdened. Seok Hoon says that it's not even a difficult task, is it? Just put a drug in Min Woo's wine when everybody is gathered. Maid nods.

Stepmom asks if Mi Yeon has discovered anything about Ji Sook. Mi Yeon lies and says that it was nothing. She was just a person who looked similar to Seo Eun Ha. They weren’t twins either. She tells Stepmom that she’s still researching so Stepmom should wait and not make things complicated. Stepmom reluctantly agrees. What is Mi Yeon up to? And wouldn’t think make her hate Ji Sook less because she’s not a threat to Mi Yeon’s marriage and never had an affair with Seok Hoon? Shouldn’t this make her like Min Woo’s wife more?

Mi Yeon wonders if there will be something entertaining at tonight’s party. What *does* she have planned? Stepmom is intrigued. Mi Yeon says that, of course, they should have something entertaining.

Seok Hoon goes into a locked drawer of his desk and pulls out The Necklace. He thinks of taking it off of Eun Ha’s body and saying goodbye. Mi Yeon walks in. He quickly puts the necklace away. After glancing at him through the mirror, Mi Yeon turns to him and says, “Saranghae (I love you).” He looks at her and doesn’t say it back. She asks him what he thinks. Puzzled by the question – as am I – he asks what about. She frowns and says that she wants to name the baby Sarang Hae, Min Sarang Hae. Wow, that is super cheesy. This poor kid. He awkwardly chuckles.

Mask_E12_087   Mask_E12_088   Mask_E12_089

Mi Yeon thinks that the idea if just lovely. It would've been better if Seok Hoon’s last name was Wang (which means king). Wang Sarang Hae, right?! He ‘smiles’ and says that it’s nice. She tells the baby that they’ll call it ‘Sarang Hae’ and tells Seok Hoon to say it once, too. Wow, that’s a way to get your husband to say it, at least for 9 months. She says he should hurry. He obliges and she tells him, “Me, too!” He asks if she doesn’t have an OB/GYN appointment. She says that she’s planning on it. She just wants to enjoy this moment just a little more.

She looks at him and says that she’s so happy right now. He’s happy too, right? He partially smiles and says that, of course, he is. Mi Yeon smiles and says that when their Love You is born, she will be a clever mother to the baby and a nice wife to him. She will support whatever he is doing as well. What does he think about becoming President? She grumbles about how arrogant Eun Ha’s going to get if her father becomes President. She tells him that she’ll make Seok Hoon President somehow.

Mi Yeon declares that she feels like she can do anything. Oh, with the sad/touching music they are playing and how happy Mi Yeon is right now… she is going to lose this baby. Mi Yeon declares that their Love You is giving her the strength. Isn't that right, Love You? She smiles at Seok Hoon and he ‘smiles’ back.

They go out to the party. Seok Hoon’s eyebrows twitch as he spots Eun Ha’s parents and some white girls at the party. Mi Yeon says that she heard that Eun Ha’s parents and her friends were in Korea, so she invited them. Didn't she do well? He acts like totally thinks it’s a great idea. She did well. But his face says otherwise when she’s not looking. Seok Hoon goes and greets the parents. EHMom wonders when Eun Ha will appear.

Ji Sook is inside with a stylist, who asks what type of concept she wants for the evening. Eun Ha says that she wants to shine like a jewel. Eeee! And she’s picked the red ‘No Way will I Go Along with Killing Min Woo’ dress. Thank you fate!

Mask_E12_093   Mask_E12_095   Mask_E12_097

Min Woo is sitting, waiting outside. He looks up and his jaw drops. Ji Sook emerges, looking lovely. She walks over and greets her parents and all of Eun Ha’s friends, like she’s known them forever. She must have been studying. Yup, they show her studying Eun Ha’s photo album. How did all these friends just happen to be in Korea? She walks over to Min Woo, who gets up and takes her hand. They walk together and he grunts and complains about his eyes. Concerned, she asks what’s wrong. He tells her that she’s so bright it’s hurting his eyes. Eee! Why is he so sweet? She smiles widely.

Mask_E12_099   Mask_E12_100   Mask_E12_101

Yun Soo lights the candles, 27 for her birthday – which now that they’re on the cake, makes Eun Ha’s cake *taller* than Mi Yeon’s. She mentions the singing… and no one jumps in, so she announces that they’ll skip that part. Ji Sook leans forward to blow out the candles and Min Woo bust out with ‘Happy Birthday to You.’ I am rolling. He is obviously uncomfortable, but gets louder as he sings. Yun Soo belts out the third “Happy birthday” – and sounds really, really good – with Min Woo singing the Seo Eun Ha-shi. And the crowd sings the last verse. Awesome. Everyone claps and Ji Sook blows out the candle.

Mask_E12_104   Mask_E12_107   Mask_E12_108

Seok Hoon is obviously affected – since he couldn’t do that for the *real* Eun Ha, even when she asked him to and they were alone. Mi Yeon notices his mood. She taps him on the shoulder and asks if he’ll sing for her birthday, too, right? He looks at her, shocked. She tells him that he better sing.

Dad starts laughing, obviously pleased. Stepmom is dutifully smiling. He declares that you see all sorts of things in life. What did his daughter-in-law do for Min Woo to sing? EHMom says that since their son-in-law sang, doesn't Eun Ha have to do something, too? EHDad suggests that Eun Ha play piano. Piano? Does Ji Sook know piano? EHDad says that she’s played piano well since she was a child. Mi Yeon declares that they must listen to it then and asks Eun Ha to show them her skills.

Mask_E12_113   Mask_E12_114

Min Woo asks if Eun Ha knows how to play. Ji Sook’s face doesn’t look so confident. She doesn’t answer. Mi Yeon tells her to hurry and show them. She is just wrong. The staff leads the way in clapping encouragement.

Mask_E12_115   Mask_E12_118   Mask_E12_119

Ji Sook heads over to the piano. Maid drugs some wine. Ji Sook sits and starts to play… well. And it’s not an easy song either. Both Mi Yeon and Seok Hoon are surprised.Chang Soo is practically crying as he tells Min Woo that Madam is so beautiful. Min Woo’s face says that he agrees. With a small smile on his face, he tell Chang Soo to stop looking at her. He’s wearing her out. Chang Soo obliges, but can’t help but smile at his boss being in love and happy.

Mask_E12_120   Mask_E12_121   Mask_E12_122

Ji Sook thinks about being in the department store, playing piano for Mal Ja and Myung Hwa. Mal Ja asks why she practices piano every night. Will she get anything out of it? She answers: A man? She says that after she gets married and have a baby, she want to show my husband that she is not just a woman who cooks and cleans. She also knows how to enjoy music. She is so smart. Her friends are impressed.

Ji Sook finishes and stands. Everyone claps and cheers. Eun Ha’s parents are proud. Mi Yeon is starting to sulk.Dad declares that their daughter-in-law is something! He laughs again. Stepmom downplays it by saying that she's pretty good.

Min Woo comes over to the piano and offers his hand, which she takes. Ah, the skinship. He says that he was surprised by her. She plays piano very well. He looks really proud. Eee. She smiles as she asks how he can be surprised by just this? She have more things to show him. The smile almost comes out.

Mask_E12_123   Mask_E12_124   Mask_E12_125

As Seok Hoon watches Ji Sook, he can’t help but think of Eun Ha. Ji Sook ends up sitting next to him. Maid comes up and pours the glass of wine for Min Woo. Ji Sook drinks it instead. She ‘accidentally’ drops her purse and asks Seok Hoon to pick it up. As he grabs the purse, she leans over and tells him that things won't go as he planned. This is Seo Eun Ha's response. He remembers what Eun Ha told him a year ago. If she wears white, she’s going along with the plan. If she wears red, it means she will not.

Mask_E12_126   Mask_E12_127   Mask_E12_130

They both straighten up and he puts the clutch back on the table. She tells him “thank you.” He looks over at Maid. Flashback shows her dumping out the drugged wine. Ji Sook walks up behind her and tells Maid that she did well. Maid is surprised. Ji Sook asks that Maid please not do any more bad things to Min Woo. Maid says that she’s not doing this because Eun Ha paid off her private loan. She just wants to live honorably. Ji Sook says that she knows how Maid feels. Again his plans don’t go the way he thought.

Mask_E12_132   Mask_E12_133   Mask_E12_134

Min Woo and Ji Sook enter their bedroom. He says that he didn't know she could play the piano. She smiles and says that she didn't know he played the violin. Min Woo asks if they should do a duet for their wedding anniversary? Eee. Sorry them happy, makes me happy. She likes that idea. She starts to walk toward the closet, but he takes her by the shoulders – more skinship! – and leads her over to sit in front of his present that is sitting on the coffee table. He tells her to open it, even though he’s not sure if it’s to her liking. She’s surprised. And where’s the smile you’re supposed to give her?

She smiles and it’s a flower. He sits and tells her that it won't die too fast. He picked out a tough little guy. He says that they should raise this thing together. She smiles. He says that he didn't know what to get her. She's not disappointed, is she? He looks a little nervous. She asks him how she didn’t know how beautiful a flower is? Aw. He says that it’s because living is so busy and hard. As she reaches out to touch the flower he says that she couldn't see the flower that was right in front of her eyes. Literally speaking about the symbolic flower of his love. He asks if she likes the present. She says the best present to her is... Min Woo. He blinks. She smiles and says that she gets more sentimental at night time and hurries into the bathroom to wash up.

Min Woo is a little in shock. Th-the best present is.. h-h-him? After a few more blinks, he jumps up walks over to the bathroom door. Putting his hands on his hips, asks what she is sorry for? She doesn't have to be sorry, Seo Eun Ha! The shower starts. He steps away from the door and reaches into his back pocket. He pulls out a ring box. He whispers that he also has a ring. Small smile.

Seok Hoon enters his bedroom. Mi Yeon is in bed. He asks if she sleeping already? No answer. He looks at all the bags of purchases that she has yet to put away. Baby clothes are included. He picks a onesie up, looks at it and thinks about how happy she said she was. He glances over and catches sight of himself in the mirror. Freaked out look. He drops the onesie back in the bag. He reaches in jacket pocket and looks at Eun Ha’s necklace. He looks over at sleeping Mi Yeon and leaves. But she’s not sleeping.

Seok Hoon goes for a drive.

Min Woo hides the ring box under one of the pillows in the couch. Why not her pillow on the bed? He leans on the pillow and wiggles on it. Just to make sure that she’ll notice it when she sits. He wonders why she’s not done yet. And she emerges. Like he’s annoyed, he tells her that this won’t do. She asks what won’t. He tells her that he can't sleep on the sofa anymore because his back hurts. She asks if she should sleep on the sofa, then? He tells her to give it a try and see how painful her back feels. He said try laying on it! Dork!

Ji Sook sits down on it and pats the cushions. He tells her to move a little more actively! When she wiggles, she notices the box. She opens it. Wow, that’s a ring. She looks at him and he acts like he has no idea what it is. He sits next to her. As she takes it out he says, “Wow! Is that the famous tear-drop diamond that the French Royals used?” She’s touched and stares at it. He grabs her hand, takes the ring. He tells her not to drop it in the water again so carelessly. It’s their wedding ring. He slides it back on her finger. As the music swells and I notice *all* the diamonds. She looks at it on her finger and smiles. She looks over at him, and he’s smiling, but when he sees her looking, he pretends that he was just stretching his neck.

Seok Hoon arrives at the funeral center where ‘Byeon Ji Sook’ is. He puts the necklace on the ledge by her ashes and starts to cry. He says her name: Eun Ha-ya. Mi Yeon steps from around the corner and sees this. Her suspicion was correct. She is floored and can barely walk away. It was her that gave Maid the pills and had Maid drug the wine.

Flashback to that day by the pool. Min Woo wants to finish their talk. Eun Ha says that the wine’s not done yet. He chugs the rest with one gulp. Eun Ha says that she looks forward to their marriage. She’ll see him at the wedding. She turns around and looks at Min Woo briefly. This all we’ve seen before. But we haven’t seen: As she turns back around, she starts to stagger. Min Woo notices. She drops her purse and jacket but keeps walking. He starts walking toward her and the drug hits him. He collapses.

Eun Ha sags against the pool’s ladder. Mi Yeon walks toward her. Eun Ha staggers toward her. She puts her hand on Mi Yeon’s shoulders. As she collapses, Mi Yeon just lets her fall. Eun Ha struggles not to sink, but Mi Yeon just watches. Mi Yeon turns and walks away as Eun Ha tries not to drown. She realizes that there will be CCTV footage. Eun Ha almost drowns. The CCTV footage is gone. She tries not to react to that.

Seok Hoon continues to cry.

Ji Sook smiles at Min Woo as she looks at their wedding ring and he lets himself smile.

Thoughts

Wow, so this episode gave us Eun Ha’s back story – at least her relationship with Seok Hoon. She was in love with him. And he was in love with her, even though he purposely married someone else. Eun Ha knew their relationship wasn’t healthy, but couldn’t help herself. Seok Hoon’s plan included KILLING MIN WOO. How messed up is that? Eun Ha was debating whether to do it, and since she agreed to marry Min Woo, it looks like she was leaning toward going along. And Mi Yeon killed her.

As I said before, Mi Yeon really was the only real logical choice. Dad had no motive. Min Woo didn’t do it and Seok Hoon wouldn’t do it. Stepmom didn’t know about the affair, so she’d want the marriage for Dad’s (and her own) sake. That only left Mi Yeon. I appreciate that Mi Yeon is horrified. This episode (and the last couple really) showed that she’s not a bad person, she’s just in a destructive relationship, which is leading her to do bad things. I have a feeling that she’s going to lose the baby that’s making her genuinely happy, and those 2 things (dead baby and dead Eun Ha) are going to drive her over the edge a little.

I am loving how Ji Sook is getting more and more fierce and I am loving how cute the pair are together. His reaction to her announcement that her best birthday present was him was priceless and so awesome. She’s definitely contradicting what she said when she said that she couldn’t love him and actively acting out that contradiction and his surprised reactions when she does: ‘what are you doing?’ to the back ‘hug’ and the blinking. It makes me so very happy. I want a Min Woo, because he is a genuinely nice guy. He’s not the typical arrogant chaebol. He doesn’t suffer fools, and expects people to know their place, but he’s also really nice to pretty much everyone, in his own reserved way. And the more that Ji Sook is with him, the braver he feels about showing that kindness to others, because she shows him that being kind doesn’t make you weak, it just makes you kind.

And, in fact, Ji Sook’s kindness is actually making her the strongest one in the Choi household. She’s got the loyalty of the servants and has shutdown Seok Hoon’s schemes by winning over Maid. If it comes right down to it, Yun Soo, Chul, Chang Soo, Maid… they will all have her back because she is kind.

Min Woo and Chang Soo were down right adorable this week, especially Chang Soo as a teenage girl. (Because I don’t see too many women acting like that, but maybe that’s because I’m no longer 20). I loved Min Woo’s struggle to pick out the perfect gift for his girl. And boy, did he succeed! A plant that they could raise *together* and a replacement wedding ring. Plus, the best present: himself. I still and squee-ing over his blinking as what she said computes. He is so cute. And so is she!
I wonder

I’m wondering how Mi Yeon is going to use this knowledge that ‘Eun Ha’ is really Ji Sook. Also, how much she’s going to torment her husband with it. The watch was just an example of how she likes digging at him and this is so much more extreme. And since she knows, how long before Min Woo knows? I don’t think for a second that he’s going to turn on Ji Sook, since he loves her and she has proven over and over that she’s on his side. I actually think that it will put the pieces into place for him as to what Seok Hoon is holding over his wife, since he knows it’s something and it’s not an affair.

I also wonder why Doc Kim is being loyal to Seok Hoon and what Seok Hoon meant about them sharing a common purpose.

And, how long is Loan Shark for this world? Not that I hate to see him go, nor will I miss him when he’s gone. I find his whole subplot annoying.

I just hope next episode gives up more Ji Sook-Min Woo romance J Because that’s the best part.
