Mask Episode 18 Recap

Episode begins in the grove with the memorial trees. Min Woo is helping Ji Hyuk to plant Mom’s tree. He asks Papa – calling him Father-in-Law – is he likes the tree. Papa doesn’t say anything, just cries. Ji Hyuk declares that the tree’s sturdy so even if a typhoon comes, it won't budge. And Ji Hyuk and Min Woo are calling each other ‘Brother-in-law.’ Ji Sook asks if Mom’s tree will grow and bud flowers and bear fruit.

Ji Sook goes over and touches Mom’s tree. She thinks about when they planted their and Ji Eun’s tree. When a person dies, where do they go? When a person dies, they go to the heart of the person that they love. Holding Mom’s ring to her heart, she tells Mom to be born as her daughter in the next life and cause her a lot of heartache. She leaves the ring by the tree.

Ji Sook and Min Woo are in Mom’s room looking over Mom’s things. Memories looking at the apron she made Mom. She looks at Min Woo and says that she thinks she understands now. All this time, she thought she came this far because of her family… if she had a lot of money, her family would be happy. But it's not like that. It was because of her… her greed. Min Woo tell her that she did her best and it isn't her fault. And Mom’s death is more the fault of Mi Yeon. Ji Sook weeps and smells Mom’s apron. Min Woo kneels beside her and holds her as she cries.

Mi Yeon is sitting at Casa Choi’s bar, drinking. I wonder if she knows she killed someone else. Seok Hoon takes the bottle away from her. She asks if he was distressed. He’s not sure what she means. She says that she’s asking if he felt distressed when he did bad things. He asks what that means. She says that she feels so distressed right now, like she’s going crazy. She pours herself another drink and chugs it. He asks what bad things she did. And I can’t tell what his face means… what this moment means… Mi Yeon says that she just wanted to interfere with the surgery. She didn't know it would go this far. So she does know that she killed Mom. She tells herself that that’s right. It was an accident. Even if she didn't do it, ‘she’ would have died anyway. Seok Hoon asks who Mi Yeon is talking about. Instead of answering the question, with a distraught voice, Mi Yeon says that it’s all Loan Shark’s fault. If Loan Shark didn't say those things…. Yes it was like that.

Seok Hoon goes and visits Loan Shark – with a load of cash. Loan Shark is only too happy to talk since he’s just been paid. Madam wanted to interfere with the liver transplant. That's why he told Mi Yeon that Ji Hyuk has a bad peanut allergy. Seok Hoon realizes what’s happened. And he actually looks like he feels a little bad about it. About what it’s done to Mi Yeon. Loan Shark says that all he did is tell Mi Yeon that.

Seok Hoon asks why Mom died. Loan Shark laughs and taps the stack of bills. He says that Seok Hoon was just supposed to ask one thing. Isn’t Seok Hoon asking too many questions? Seok Hoon nods at Minion, who pulls out more money from his duffle. Loan Shark laughs and says that Mom’s disease just got so bad that she died naturally. No one killed her. Seok Hoon nods – and there’s a slight twitch of his eyebrow.

Ji Sook is asleep. Min Woo is watching over her. She’s hugging Mom’s apron. Up in his secret room, he looks at Oma’s necklace. He picks up the picture of him and Oma and tells Oma that he’s sorry. More than her, there is a person that he loves more. Aw. He smiles slightly.

[Episode 18 – Trap]

Morning breakfast. Everyone is more sedate than usual. And Seok Hoon is back in the house. Stepmom tells him that he’s so shameless. If she was him, even if she came back home, she wouldn't be able to eat with the family. Dad says nothing, but watches for Seok Hoon’s reaction. Min Woo puts down his chopsticks. Stepmom looks at Seok Hoon says that she’s not sure if he’ll have indigestion. Seok Hoon puts down his spoon. Stepmom asks if this seems strange, her asking, since it seems that he has been eating so well all along. Seok Hoon replies that he can leave right now, if she wants. Dad clears his throat and tells Seok Hoon to stay where he is. Stepmom smiles, annoyed.

Stepmom looks at Ji Sook and asks if someone died! Why is she eating so half-heartedly? Mi Yeon tells Stepmom to stop bothering Ji Sook. Why is Stepmom commenting on the way Ji Sook eats? Stepmom asks if Mi Yeon is still drunk from yesterday? Mi Yeon barely replies that it’s because Stepmom’s acting like that while they’re all eating. Stepmom puts down her utensils.

Ji Sook puts down her utensils and stands. She declares that she has something to say. Stepmom asks why she’s trying to scare them again. Ji Sook says that all this time, she has fooled Dad and Stepmom. Stepmom asks why she keeps repeating things they already know. She already told them about the affair. Ji Sook replies that what she said then wasn't all of it… There is something more important. To tell the truth, Seo Eun Ha–-

Seok Hoon cuts her off and says to tell them in 10 minutes. He looks at Dad and apologizes, saying that he has something very important to tell Ji Sook. He asks Ji Sook to please wait 10 minutes. Min Woo tells him to say it there. Or he’ll go with them. Seok Hoon replies that if Min Woo is there, he won't be able to talk. It'll only take 10 minutes. He repeats that he said 10 minutes. Dad tells Ji Sook to go ahead.

Once they’re alone, she tells him to talk. She’s leaving in 10 minutes. He tells her not to go back to being Byeon Ji Sook. If she does, it puts him in a complicated situation. And why is that going to sway her? She smiles slightly at that. She says that she will go back. She has nothing more to lose. He asks why she thinks she has nothing to lose? Is she saying that she doesn't care about what happens to Papa and Ji Hyuk? She asks if he's threatening her again. He replies that he’s just explaining what will happen if she reveals everything.

Seok Hoon asks her why she thinks Mom died. Did she already forget the fact that Ji Hyuk almost died? Stunned she starts to ask if he’s saying he killed her mother. He replies that if she goes back to being Byeon Ji Sook, Papa and Ji Hyuk will die. That’s just wrong. But in a weird way, selfless, since he’s covering for Mi Yeon. So continue living as Seo Eun Ha, Ms. Byeon Ji Sook.

Seok Hoon re-enters the dining room, without Ji Sook. Dad asks why Seok Hoon came back alone. Min Woo, concern evident in his voice, asks what happened. Seok Hoon replies that it seems like Sister-in-law has something to check urgently. Dad asks what and Seok Hoon won’t say. It’s a bit difficult for him to tell them about it. He’ll let Eun Ha tell them when she comes back. Stepmom demands to know what he means by that. Dad clears his voice and waves at Stepmom to stop. She asks why she should. Quietly, Mi Yeon tells Seok Hoon that his skills are good. She should learn, too. Min Woo gets up and leaves the room.

Ji Sook is driving. Min Woo has called her. She apologizes and tells him that they should talk later. She goes to the hospital and talks with Mom’s doctor about what happened to Mom. Is it normal that Mom suddenly fell into a coma? Doctor says that it was a bit sudden, but there are cases like that. Ji Sook asks why Ji Hyuk couldn't get the surgery on that day? Was there any other reason other than having the allergy? He knows about his peanut allergy more than anyone else. There is no way that he would have eaten it. Doctor isn’t sure. Right now except for the allergy, there isn't any other cause. Ji Sook sighs.

Angel-in-us Coffee is closed. Ji Hyuk is feeling guilty. Mom’s death is because of him. They could have gotten the surgery if he had been fine. Then Mom could have survived. Ji Sook tells him not to say that. It isn't because of him. It’s because of her; she did wrong. Ji Hyuk asks what Ji Sook did wrong. She asks if anything happened before the surgery? Like a strange person following him? He says that the day before the surgery, that woman, Choi Mi Yeon, came.  The day before? That’s a weird allergy if it took that long for him to have a reaction. Writers! There’s no way that it would have stayed in his system that long before he had a reaction to it.

Ji Sook wants to know why Mi Yeon came. Ji Hyuk doesn’t know. Mi Yeon came and said weird things.
Ji Sook will just leave after making a ruckus in the house? What does Mi Yeon expect Ji Sook to do? What is it that Mi Yeon wants? Mi Yeon says that Ji Sook should take the responsibility. If not, compensate.
Worried, Ji Sook tells Ji Hyuk not to tell Papa about it. She’ll look into it. If there was something wrong, she will reveal everything.

Back at Casa Choi, Min Woo demands to know was Seok Hoon did to Ji Sook.  What did she have to go and check? Seok Hoon tells him to ask Ji Sook about what she heard. He snarkily adds that there shouldn't be any secrets within a married couple. And he definitely practices what he’s preaching. Min Woo says that he has the evidence that proves that Seok Hoon tried to kill him. Min Woo says that if he turnsit over to the police, Seok Hoon will go to jail. Seok Hoon basically dares Min Woo to do it. Seok Hoon says that the end result won’t just be Ji Sook going to jail with him. There will be bigger things happening to Byeon Ji Sook. Why doesn’t Min Woo go and talk to an attorney to find out what the legal standing for all this is? He’d definitely know that Seok Hoon is talking out of his backside and is bluffing. Min Woo asks if Seok Hoon really thinks he’ll be fooled by those words? I kinda do, since you haven’t turned over the evidence yet. Seok Hoon replies that if Min Woo knows why Ji Sook is like that now, he wouldn't be saying this. Seok Hoon tells Min Woo to turn over the evidence and then they can see what happens after that. Am I missing something?

Min Woo leaves Seok Hoon. He asks Yun Soo where Mi Yeon is and finds out that she’s out by the pool talking with Ji Sook. He frowns.

Ji Sook – wearing really high heels – ask Mi Yeon why she met with Ji Hyuk the day before Mom’s surgery. Mi Yeon evasively asks if it isn’t her right to meet anyone she wants to meet. Ji Sook asks what on earth Mi Yeon did to Ji Hyuk and Mom. Mi Yeon asks what Ji Sook is saying – but her lack of facial or vocal reaction is an admission of guilt. An innocent person would have frowned and their inflection would have changed, but Mi Yeon is almost robotic, at the least, emotionless. Her face pleading, Ji Sook says that Mi Yeon didn't do it, right? Now Mi Yeon’s guilt is starting to show, because there’s some fear in her eyes. Mi Yeon replies that she already said that she doesn't know what Ji Sook is saying. Ji Sook replies that if, by chance, if... if it is her who did it, she won't be able to forgive her even if she is Min Woo's sister. She won’t. Mi Yeon haughtily asks who Ji Sook is that Ji Sook can't forgive her? She practically yells, “How dare you?”

Ji Sook grabs Mi Yeon’s arm and pleads with Mi Yeon to tell her honestly. Mi Yeon slaps Ji Sook’s arm free, but the violence of it throws Ji Sook off balance. She stumbles toward the water. Min Woo arrives to see Mi Yeon catch a hold of Ji Sook’s arm and keep her from falling in. Mi Yeon has a flashback to when she killed Eun Ha – and ironically, she’s wearing the same color dress. She pulls Ji Sook away from the edge of the pool, terror on her face.

Witnessing the almost fall into the pool brings on a flashback for Min Woo. He remembers chugging the wine. Eun Ha walking away, stumbling, himself falling to the ground because of the drug in the wine. The sheer weight of the memory makes him almost collapse. He stays on his feet by leaning on his hands on his legs. Ji Sook sees he’s in distress and runs over to him. As she reaches him, he sags to the ground and when she asks if he’s okay, he’s unresponsive. He remembers seeing Mi Yeon let Ji Sook fall into the pool and then walk away.

Min Woo is now lying on his bed, unconscious, muttering, “No,” and twitching. He wakes up and Ji Sook is beside him. So is Mi Yeon. Once he realizes where he is, he sits up quickly. Concern on her face, Mi Yeon says that Min Woo lost consciousness suddenly. Is he all right? What kind of nightmare did he have? Quietly, he tells her to get out. She asks, “What?” As pleasant as he can be at this moment, he repeats that he said to get out. Please. She should hurry.

Ji Sook tells Mi Yeon to please let Min Woo rest right now. Mi Yeon reluctantly goes. Once she’s gone, he asks Ji Sook how long he was unconscious. She replies that it’s been about 30 minutes. She encourages him to take a long rest first. She didn't call the doctor in fear of Dad finding out about this, but they should go see a doctor later. He assures her that he’s okay.

Ji Sook asks if Min Woo has turned over the evidence on Seok Hoon to the police. Are they investigating now? Instead of telling her that he hasn’t, he asks what Seok Hoon said to her earlier. With what did Seok Hoon threaten her? At least she tells him… Ji Sook says that if she goes back to being Byeon Ji Sook, Seok Hoon said that he won't leave her family alone. Min Woo processes this. She starts to mention the video again and Min Woo tells her that ‘they’ said it's not concrete evidence. Dang! He just lied. To protect her, but it’s still a lie. Min Woo-shi! Well, I guess it’s not totally a lie, since Seok Hoon is the one who said it and he is a prosecutor… He adds that even if Seok Hoon goes to jail, he will get out soon. So they should wait until the opportunity to use it comes.

With Minion driving, Seok Hoon is riding in the car with Papa. He’s being very pleasant. He acts like he’s there to help with Ji Sook’s name being restored and that he’s sympathetic to their plight. Papa, clueless of who Seok Hoon is, is grateful for how Ji Sook’s brother-in-law is helping them. And this is why you need to communicate, people! Papa asks if everyone in Min Woo’s family knows now. Seok Hoon says that Dad and Stepmom don’t; he stopped Ji Sook from telling them, today actually. If Dad knows about it, he still won't be able to handle it.

Papa asks where Seok Hoon is taking him. Seok Hoon is vague. And I am nervous. But not totally, because Seok Hoon isn’t stupid enough to do something to him. Just threaten to do something to him, because the threat will keep Ji Sook in line, but hurting Papa won’t. At the Coffee Shop, Ji Hyuk doesn’t know where Papa has gone. He tries calling Papa, but Papa’s left his phone. Next to it is Seok Hoon’s business card. He calls Ji Sook, who is immediately concerned. Because she’s not thinking logically.

Seok Hoon has taken Papa to a suit shop. He tells Papa that he wants to have a suit made for him. Which he’s probably going to tell Ji Sook are Papa’s funeral clothes. Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha. Ji Sook calls Seok Hoon and he lets Ji Sook talk to Papa. When he hands Papa the phone, he does a respectful bow. When she asks, Papa says that Seok Hoon has been very kind to him. He’s so relieved that someone as nice as Seok Hoon is there for Ji Sook. He heard Seok Hoon helped her out a lot when she was having difficult times. Oh, if Papa only knew. He seems to be a good person. So even after she returns home, she should keep in touch with Seok Hoon often. She says that she will.

Papa hands the phone back to Seok Hoon. He tells Ji Sook that no matter what might happen to Papa, he will pay attention to Papa to the end. So she shouldn’t worry. Of course, you’re going to obliquely threaten Papa in front of him. He adds, like it’s an afterthought, that he will give attention to Ji Hyuk, too. So don't feel too bad. He tells her that he will see her at home and starts to hang up. She makes him hold on and asks if he knew about what his wife did. Min Woo looks at her, wondering what she’s talking about – and probably wondering if Ji Sook is talking about Mi Yeon killing Eun Ha.

Because Seok Hoon is smart, he hedges his bets. Seok Hoon asks if Ji Sook is talking about Mi Yeon interfering with Mom’s liver transplant surgery. She is. Seok Hoon replies that Mi Yeon is a nice person. So she does what he tells her to do. So is he now taking the fall for Mi Yeon with Ji Sook? Altruistically? Does that make sense? Seok Hoon says that without Mi Yeon's help, he wouldn’t have been able to return home. So is he implying that it was willful complicity or simply deceived action that caused Mi Yeon to interfere with the surgery? He’s definitely implying that he’s responsible. Which I think is a miscalculation on his part, given how much she’ll do anything for her family. He asks if he didn’t warn her. If she defies him, even he doesn't know what he would do. He hangs up.

Ji Sook is so shocked that when Min Woo asks what she meants by ‘what Noona did’ that she doesn’t answer. She drops her phone because of the shock. She walks downstairs in a daze. Min Woo follows her and asks if she’s okay. She weakly says that she is and asks to be left alone for a while, saying she needs some time to think. He lets her go, but is clearly distressed. Particularly since he hates not knowing what makes her upset (because he can’t fix it not knowing). He looks don, a little frustrated, and when he looks up, he sees Mi Yeon.

Min Woo and Mi Yeon head to her bedroom. She sits on the couch with her arms and legs crossed. Min Woo stands and looks around the room. He asks her how old he was when he came to this house. It’s a rhetorical question. He asks what he was like back then? A country bumpkin, wasn't he? She replies that he was totally a country bumpkin back then. He cried every day because he missed his mom. Are we going to get an answer about that one? About who killed Oma? He cried when he saw water because he was scared. He says that that’s why she was nice to him. She defended him every time Dad scolded him. She even sang for him. She scoffs at that.

He goes and sits beside her and asks why she did it. She asks what he means. Again those pronouns are freaking her out and she’s trying to stay calm. He asks why she let him know that his wife was Byeon Ji Sook? She replies that she said she couldn't help herself. He asks about Seo Eun Ha; how did Seo Eun Ha die? Mi Yeon asks how she would know about that. They look at each other. His face says that he’s disappointed and her face says that she doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Min Woo says that the memory of how Seo Eun Ha died has emerged. It can’t be true, right? She stops looking at him. The noona that he has that kind of relationship with isn't a person who could have done that. She says that he knows that it was just an accident back then. He asks if that’s true. She says that it is. He asks what she did to Ji Sook, then. He heard Ji Sook’s phone conversation earlier. Ji Sook asked if Mi Yeon’s husband knows about what she did. Didn’t Noona promise him she’d have her husband turn himself in? He keeps asking himself if Mi Yeon even really wants to do that. I think she did at the time. She starts to say something, but he cuts her off, saying that if Seok Hoon continues to torment and threaten Byeon Ji Sook, he won't continue to hold it in either.

Ji Sook goes and visit’s Eun Ha’s urn. She says that if her plan is successful, then Eun Ha will return to her rightful place as Eun Ha. She apologizes and says that Eun Ha said she wanted to stop Min Seok Hoon from becoming a murderer, but he has to be the murderer so Ji Sook can stop him. Ji Sook says that she has been feeling guilty.

Ji Sook returns to Casa Choi and meets with Seok Hoon in the wine cellar. He remarks that it's been awhile since they met in a place like this. Like this is some casual, friendly get-together. I shake my head. Sometimes I really can’t understand him. Ji Sook declares that this will be the last time meeting him there. He declares that she seems to be very determined. She replies that she can't return to being Byeon Ji Sook because of him and she can't live as Seo Eun Ha either because of his wife. He asks what she’s getting at. She tells him to kill her as Seo Eun Ha. Seok Hoon is shocked by this request.

Ji Sook tells him that, just like he faked Byeon Ji Sook's death, kill Seo Eun Ha in a fake death. He asks if she’s wanting him to get her a new identity. She says that she’s asking for a new life to live. She says that Mom’s death made her realize that there’s no way that she can win in this fight with him. She’s lost. He’s won. She tells him that she’ll leave her stocks to him in her will. She asks that he please make it so that she can leave quietly. What about Min Woo? Won’t he ask that question, since it’s obvious that she loves the guy? That's the best choice for all of them.

Seok Hoon replies that he’s surprised. He didn't think she’d give up this easily. She replies that at any rate, this fight is meaningless now, right? He nods and says, “Fine.” He tells her to leave, if that’s the best choice for all of them. At least we know what she meant by making him a murderer, now.

Nivea body spray – again with the product placement – Yun Soo sprays some on her arm and happily smells it. Chang Soo sneaks up behind her and puts his hands over her eyes, a big smile on his face. How did they not hook up sooner? She asks who it is and he sing-songs asking who it could be. Cutsey talking between them. They actually get in a fight over who is cutest – arguing that the other is cuter. He sighs and says that they should have a competition to see who is more cute. And who will be judging this competition? More cutesy behavior. Min Woo walks by and – sounding exhausted – tells them not to act like this so early in the morning. It's exhausting. Hehehe.

After Min Woo walks by, the pair try to act like they have no idea what he’s talking about. A maid comes and gets them, saying that Madam is calling. Madam being Ji Sook. She’s gathered the household staff to present them with gifts. She says that the staff is working so hard in the heat. It's not much, but she prepared these for them to cheer them up. Chang Soo sighs and says that, as expected, Ji Sook is someone who should be respected. He gives her two thumbs up. Yun Soo gushes that her gift is something she wanted but couldn't buy. Chul cries a little. Min Woo walks by and stops to observe.

Yun Soo asks why Ji Sook did this for them. Chang Soo says that it’s almost as if she’s going somewhere. Ji Sook chuckles (nervously) and asks where she would go. She tells them to please keep up the good work in the future. She leaves the staff to their gifts. She stops by Min Woo and he asks if she has other reasons for giving the gifts. She asks what he means and says that she feels like she didn't take care of the persons who are close to her while giving so much to others. He smiles and asks where his present is then. This makes her smile. Isn't she taking care of people she’s close with? Isn’t he the closest person to her? She smiles and says that she will prepare his present. She leaves and he watches her go, an uneasy look on his face. He mutters to himself that he just threw it out there.

Ji Sook meets with Manager. He protests that after all her hard work, that she’s leaving the store. And so suddenly… It’s like she’s getting her affairs in order before committing suicide. He’s not happy. She stops by EHDad’s office and hands over the charity foundation to him. He asks if something is happening. Because he’s paying attention. EHDad asks if she’s getting a divorce. She apologizes and says that she doesn't think she can get a divorce. Which I think EHDad would be happy with that answer.

Ji Sook says that she came because she just wants to say something. It is something a daughter wants to say to her father. Since she was little, she thought of him a lot as a daughter and always respected him. Even though she’s upset that he can't take care of her because he’s busy, she understands. This daughter loves her father, sincerely. She adds that he’s a good father. It is just that his daughter doesn't know that. She gets up and bows to him before she leaves.

Ji Sook is in the kitchen, chopping up some vegetables. The staff is fretting because it’s something they should be doing. She assures them that it will be okay. She is going to cook for her husband. Aw, Min Woo’s present. It isn't like elders are there. They should go inside and rest. The staff leaves. Min Woo arrives and asks why she’s suddenly decided to cook. She smiles widely and declares that it’s her present. Didn't he ask for a present earlier? She’s going to make a delicious soy bean stew so they should eat together.

Min Woo tries the finished soup. He sighs and asks when she’s going to tell him. She acts like she’s not sure what he means. He says that she’s acting as if she’s not going to see him again. The slight change in her expression says that he’s right. He asks if it’s because of Seok Hoon? Or... is it because of what Mi Yeon did? Ji Sook smiles sadly and says that she just thought about how she is going to live in the future. She also thought about which one is more important: a long fight where she can't see the light at the end or the delicious meal we are eating. Which one does Min Woo think is more important? She smiles widely and says that they should eat, deliciously. He lets it go, because that’s what she wants.

Mi Yeon is reading an article over Seok Hoon’s shoulder. Because he and Ji Sook had an affair, Ji Sook and Min Woo are getting a divorce... She and Seok Hoon will get a divorce as well? Indignantly, Mi Yeon asks who wrote such a nonsense article?! Sedately, Seok Hoon says that it isn't like the content is wrong. He says that Stepmom came by his office earlier and told him to get a divorce. Concerned – even though she should be kicking him to the curb, for how he’s continuing to ruin her life – she asks what Seok Hoon said in response. Seok Hoon says that although Stepmom’s will is important, he told Stepmom that what Mi Yeon want is more important.

Family meeting. Dad has seen the article and is annoyed over the humiliation. Stepmom says that it’s everywhere. Mi Yeon declares that they need to put out another article. Stepmom asks what kind of article. Mi Yeon says one that says that their family is happy. There won't ever be a divorce. That kind of content. Stepmom says that the possibility of divorce still exists. Ji Sook speaks up and says that she agrees with Mi Yeon. If negative topics arise, it will affect the election.

Dad orders them to go on a trip and show reporters their happy life. Min Woo says that the idea makes no sense. Dad asks what Seok Hoon thinks. Seok Hoon’s answer is to ask if he hasn’t always followed Dad’s instructions. Mi Yeon tells Min Woo that it will be fine as long as he changes his mind. They can take this time to get closer to one another.

Back in their room, Min Woo asks what on earth is going on? Going on a trip together with the person who tried to kill him? Ji Sook tells him that they can't keep on avoiding him. She adds that before she goes back to being Byeon Ji Sook, there are some things she has to do. He wants to know what kind of things, but she answers that she will tell him when this thing ends. And I throw my hands up in the air in frustration. You’re strongest when you’re working *together,* not leaving each other in the dark. She asks Min Woo to wait until then, as a favor to her. Min Woo tells her to not think about other things and to think about herself. She replies that it is for her. She wants to put an end to it since things started because of her.

Ji Sook and Seok Hoon meet in the wine cellar again. I thought the last time was the last time… He presents her with a new passport and says that her new name is Kim Yoo Jin. At the place they are going, there will be a fire when she is alone. She’ll be able to escape and they will find a body that he’s prepared to be Seo Eun Ha. She can have a new start as Kim Yoo Jin. She takes the passport and hands over the will which names him the beneficiary of her stocks. She tells him to use the money to make the kind of heaven he dreamed of.

As he looks at the will, he asks if she’s ready to live as Kim Yoo Jin. She says that she’s not sure. In any case, she should try living somehow. The only thing she is sure of is that he will never be able to become a part of her new life. He says that it’s a shame. If she’d just followed his plans, they both could be smiling. She replies that the result would have been the same, even if she had followed his plans. If they are together, they can never smile. Seok Hoon says “What a regret,” and wishes her good luck in her third life. Kim Yoo Jin.

Minion meets with Seok Hoon and asks if he should prepare a corpse. Seok Hoon tells him not to. He doesn't need a corpse. He’ll need narcotics instead. Both of them are planning on double-crossing the plan… He says that when there is a fire at the villa, Byeon Ji Sook will be so drugged that she won’t be ab;e to escape. He looks at Ji Sook’s picture and says that since Ji Sook lived with the name “Seo Eun Ha,” she has to die with the name “Seo Eun Ha.”

Ji Sook writes Min Woo a letter:

Min Woo-shi, while thinking that I died, you must have been very shocked, very hurt and crying a lot, right? How can she even think of a plan like this? It is going to kill him. Min Woo, the truth is that I didn't die. I will live with the new name "Kim Yoo Jin" and come back to you again. If my plans go as planned, when Min Seok Hoon lights a fire at the villa, the police and investigators will arrive. Min Seok Hoon will become a murderer of Seo Eun Ha. I will take the responsibility of all my actions when I go back. I am sorry for not being able to tell you in advance. I love you, Min Woo.

She sticks the note in an envelope and puts it in his desk. Which, of course, he won’t see before all this happens, of course.

Min Woo watches as Ji Sook finished transplanting their flower into a larger pot. He tells her that she really looks like someone who is leaving. She replies that she should leave at some point. She touches the stem of the second flower and asks if the flower isn’t so proud. If there is a single ray of light, it grows anywhere. Min Woo agrees; it’s spirited like Byeon Ji Sook.

She asks him to do her just one favor? When he asks what, she asks him to close her eyes. He wants to know why. She doesn’t explain, just says that it’s a favor. He closes his eyes. She reaches up and tenderly touches his face, trancing his nose, lips and chin with her finger tips. She sadly smiles. He opens his eyes and asks what she’s doing now? She replies that if she remembers like this, they can see each other even when they don't see each other. Not sounding like she’s leaving at all. He tells her not to talk nonsense. There’s no way that they won't see each other.

The four arrive at the villa. Seok Hoon drives a black car and Min Woo’s is silver. The reporters haven’t arrived yet. Min Woo asks if there aren’t any custodians there? Seok Hoon answers that he said that they would come soon. There’s an edge to his voice. I would be a little uncomfortable right now, if I knew that Seok Hoon was gunning for me. Seok Hoon tells them to go look around, since he probably won’t have a reason to come back there. Ji Sook tells Seok Hoon to do the same. Mi Yeon suggests that they go inside and have some wine. They have to pretend to look happy when the reporters come. Isn't it hard to do when they’re sober?

They go inside. Mi Yeon calls Ji Sook “Byeon Ji Sook,” and asks if she can call her that since everyone there knows the truth, anyway. Ji Sook agrees to it, saying there isn’t anything else to hide. Mi Yeon says that it must have been hard on her living while hiding so many secrets. How did she sleep, being worried that she might get caught? Min Woo censures her with a “Noona.” Mi Yeon replies that she’s saying it because she’s concerned.

Ji Sook puts down her wine glass and says that Mi Yeon’s right. It was so difficult and she was so distressed that many times she wanted to just tell everything. Doesn’t Mi Yeon feel like that? Mi Yeon isn’t sure what Ji Sook means. What Mi Yeon and Seok Hoon did will be known to everyone in the world at some point. Until then, being worried that they might get caught... isn't it tiring? Dang, Ji Sook called her out. Mi Yeon gives Ji Sook a “Ya!”

Min Woo interrupts and says that since they’re there, why don’t they be frank? While they are by themselves, they should ask frankly what they want to ask. Is Seok Hoon up for it? Flying testosterone. Seok Hoon is. Min Woo asks why Seok Hoon tried to kill him. Seok Hoon should answer honestly because it is a truth that everyone there knows. Seok Hoon lies that he didn’t and asks who Min Woo heard that from. Min Woo replies that Seok Hoon will keep lying till the end. Seok Hoon repeats that he said he’s not lying.

Seok Hoon looks at Mi Yeon and asks if she thinks that he’s lying. Mi Yeon tells Min Woo that Seok Hoon never did that. It was a misunderstanding. Seok Hoon isn't that kind of person. Min Woo – starting to protest – says that he has evidence. He has a video. Mi Yeon declares that Min Woo got it wrong. There was no such thing.

Min Woo asks to talk to Mi Yeon alone. When they’re alone, she says that Seok Hoon didn't do anything wrong. Everything was a misunderstanding. She tells him to believe her. Compassion in his voice – Min Woo asks how she ended up like this. Did Seok Hoon brainwash her? He starts to scold her. Why did she become like that kind of person? He tells her that he remember clearly about that day. When Seo Eun Ha fell into the water, she just watched. She denies that it was like that. He asks why she did it. She held on to Seo Eun Ha's hand. But why did she let go? She says his name. He says that he remembers every single moment, even when she let go of Eun Ha’s hand and turned her back. Even though he don't want to believe it, she–

She commands him to stop and yells that she said it wasn't me. She starts to plead as she says that it wasn’t her. She said it wasn't her. She starts to leave, but he grabs her arm. She smacks his hand away and leaves the room. He follows her and they exit the house. Ji Sook starts to follow them, but Seok Hoon stops her, saying that they have things to talk about.

Outside, Minion is preparing for the fire.

Mi Yeon runs away from Min Woo. As he’s looking for her, Minion comes up behind him and hits him over the head with a club, knocking him out.

Inside, Ji Sook looks at her watch: 18:45. She remembers that Maid said that the police and reporters will arrive at 19:00. Seok Hoon says that at 19:00, a corpse to replace Seo Eun Ha will arrive. Is she ready? Ji Sook quietly asks if Seok Hoon is ready. He nods. She says that by tomorrow, they will be living a new life. And then the drugs begin to hit. Flashback to Minion lacing her wineglass. As she falls asleep, Seok Hoon says that he’s sorry that she has to go through this.

Minion has put Min Woo in a row boat and put it out on the lake. Wow. That was smart, because Min Woo is terrified of water and won’t be able to get back and save her in time. I hope Mi Yeon saves her. Her chance for redemption.

Seok Hoon looks at Ji Sook for a little. He sighs and gets up. He picks her up and carries her to the bedroom. He lays her on the bed and sits next to her. He reaches out and almost touches her face. Since he’s saying goodbye to Eun Ha, after all. He says that once she sleeps there, she will return to the day Seo Eun Ha died. She and Eun Ha will go back to the way it was.

Seok Hoon watches as Minion pours gasoline everywhere. Seok Hoon takes a lighter and tosses it into the gasoline. The living room catches on fire. Aren’t they going to find the lighter afterward? He and Minion leave. The fire spreads everywhere, including into the bedroom where Ji Sook is unconscious.

Min Woo wakes up. He;s in the middle of the lake. He realizes that the house is on fire.

The flames get higher and higher in Ji Sook’s room. A lightbulb shatters and wakes her. She jumps off the bed and scurries toward the door – which is engulfed in flames. She intercepted the letter that Ji Sook left for Min Woo and rips it up, instead of letting Seok Hoon become exposed as a murderer. She calls and tells someone to block the police and reporters from coming. Instead of, oh, I don’t know, stopping him from *murdering* Ji Sook. Then he wouldn’t be a murderer at all. Well, yes, he would be, but she doesn’t know that he killed Scumbag.

Min Woo tries to start the engine to the boat but it won’t start.

Ji Sook tries to use the comforter to clear the flames from her door. She reaches for the handle and burns herself. When she uses the comforter to try and open the door, it’s locked. She starts pounding on the door. Instead of using the window to exit the room. At worst, she’d break a leg.

Min Woo struggles as he looks at the water.

The smoke inhalation causes Ji Sook to collapse.

Min Woo jumps into the water. He sinks for a moment and then starts to fight his way to shore.

Thoughts

Wow, I am surprised by a few things. One, that Seok Hoon would be this brazen about killing her. I mean, it is brazen. Two, that Mi Yeon is so far gone that she would sit by and *let* him kill her, facilitate it even by stopping help from coming. Did she run outside to help Seok Hoon with his plan? I’m still hoping that her conscience gets the better of her and she runs inside and tries to help. I don’t want her to become hard and irredeemable.

I’m not surprised that Min Woo overcame his fear of water to save Ji Sook. His fear of water comes from his trauma over Oma’s death. But we know that he loves Ji Sook more than Oma now, he told Oma so, so him confronting his fear to save her life doesn’t surprise me at all. I think it’s interesting that Seok Hoon thought that being in the boat was enough impediment to stop Min Woo from getting there in time; he obviously is continuing to under-estimate Min Woo. Which, in some ways, is understandable since before Ji Sook came along, Seok Hoon was able to run all over Min Woo. But, then, he’s never loved anyone so much that he would fight for them the way that Min Woo and Ji Sook fight for each other.

One thing that frustrated me a little in this episode is the not talking that Ji Sook and Min Woo did with each other. He doesn’t tell Ji Sook about the real reason he didn’t turn over the video to the police. She doesn’t tell him the plan to kill her. He doesn’t tell her that he remembered that it was Mi Yeon that killed Eun Ha. She doesn’t tell him that Seok Hoon has threatened her family in a very real way (with Papa’s trip to the tailor). If they only talked to each other, they wouldn’t be in the situation they are in, right now.

Ji Sook also isn’t talking to Papa or Ji Hyuk about either Mi Yeon or Seok Hoon, which is only putting them in danger. How does that help things?

Are they just dropping the mystery of who killed Oma? It seems like it’s fallen to the wayside in favor of the final showdown between Ji Sook and Seok Hoon. I really want to know if I’m right about Stepmom and what happened. Why are the writers holding back so much information until the last week? Like why Seok Hoon fixated on destroying Dad and Min Woo. We got a glimpse as to his motive – Dad had something to do with Abeoji ended up mute and paralyzed – but that’s it. It’s annoying.
