Warm and Cozy Episode 8 Recap

The episode starts with Jung Joo rolling off the chairs and Gun Woo catching her. He swallows heavily and thinks that it’s uncomfortable. His phone buzzes. He makes a face and gingerly pulls it from his pocket and puts it on the table. Jung Joo snuggles into him. Gun Woo looks even more uncomfortable. He picks her up and puts her back on the chairs. He covers again with the apron. He goes and grabs the blanket and covers her with it. He looks at the sleeping Jung Joo and swallows. He really doesn’t know what to do with how he’s feeling right now.

Slowly, he grabs his phone. Jung Joo groans, uncomfortable. Immediately concerned, he squats next to her and asks if she's sick. Jung Joo gasps, uncomfortable. Gun Woo is really worried. He gives an eotteokay! He remembers her pills. He gets some water and a couple of the ‘fentanyl’. He helps her sit up and feeds her the pills. She coughs on the water. Gun Woo asks if she’s okay. She opens her eyes and just looks at him.

Gun Woo’s face says that he’s really worried. He asks how she feels. Is she really sick? She smiles slightly and falls back asleep. Gun Woo lays her back down and tells her he’ll bring her some warm water. As he stands up, Jung Joo does a wrist grab and weakly tells him not to go. Her hand slips, but he catches it. He clasps it between his hands and sits down next to her. Again, she weakly asks him not to go. He stays.

The next day, Jung Joo is massaging her head. Presumably from her hangover. Gun Woo puts some hangover porridge in front of her. She asks him what's going on? Why is he there? He sits across from her and tells her they need to get her feeling better first. It's spicy beef soup. She says that before she feels better, he should explain why he’s there and making it for her. Gun Woo says that he got caught by Hyung and was kicked out, so he’ll have to stay there for a little longer. Jung Joo points out that if Noona told him to come, didn't that mean Hyung was okay with it? Matter-of-factly, Gun Woo says, “no.” He avoided Hyung at the resort like a coward but Hyung caught him red-handed. Hyung kicked him out right there and then.

Cut to Hyung indignantly telling Noona that he didn't go looking for Gun Woo to kick him out. He didn't even know that Gun Woo was there but Gun Woo appeared in front of him. Noona wants to know if Hyung is saying that Gun Woo purposely appeared before Hyung to get kicked out? Hyung says that that’s exactly what he’s saying. Gun Woo suddenly ran in there! But, to be honest, he does tend to hallucinate these days... but it definitely was Gun Woo. Noona can’t see why Gun Woo did that.

Poong San announces to Jung Joo that Gun Woo came because of her. He’s smiling widely. Jung Joo is surprised. Poong San declares that he knew that Gun Woo would return out of concern for her. Jung Joo asks why and then answers her own question. Did Poong San call Gun Woo and ask for help for the town office dinner? Poong San says he didn’t. Gun Woo is back not only because of the Warm and Cozy, but also because of her! Which is very true, except more because of her and less because of his restaurant. Poong San tells her that Gun Woo won't ever leave her behind! He smiles happily at her. Such the matchmaker! He needs a girl, too. One of Jung Joo’s friends needs to move to the island.

Jung Joo walks over to the kitchen area and considers what Poong San said. It’s a weird, hopeful expression on her face. Gun Woo calls for her – because he doesn’t realize that she’s right there. He asks if she used up all the broccoli they bought last time? She tells him that there should be some left in the fridge. She starts hunting in the fridge for it. Gun Woo comes up behind her and starts looking over her shoulder. She turns around and he’s two inches from her face. She blinks awkwardly. To escape, she moves over to the other fridge, but Gun Woo follows her. When she turns around, he’s even closer to her face. He could have totally kissed her, right then! I am squirming for her! They find the broccoli and Gun Woo smiles at her. Still three inches from her face.

Gun Woo asks what she’s doing. She needs to move so he can close the door. Because he is totally clueless. She slides under his arm and straightens her shirt. Trying to slow her rapidly beating heart. He tells her that he was worried that the food would spoil while he wasn't around. It's clearly obvious! She asks why she would spoil without him. He says, not her… The broccoli! It's turned yellow! It's overripe! What would've happened if he came back a day later?

Jung Joo huffs and says that he sure is acting like he came back out of consideration for her when he got kicked out! He replies that she sure acts like she's taking him back in out of consideration. She was holding onto him. Jung Joo protests, asks when she did that! Then she remembers the wrist grab and asking him not to go. He asks if she remembers now. She claims that she’s still hung over. She still has a headache.

Gun Woo tells her that he kept his promise. He said that he’d be with her when she’s sick. He adds that he was really worried that she might get sick. She tells him that she just passed out from drinking. He didn't have to worry. She notices the shells from the conches that she caught, nicely displayed with a checked napkin. Gun Woo tells her that she should keep her promise, too! How can she just leave the shells? She asks why would he keep empty shells around? Gun Woo snaps back, asking if he would he throw them out then? They're her first catch! That makes her smile, although she tries to stifle it. He tells her, in a scolding tone, that next time she better make sure to bring the flesh and offer him the whole thing! She has to smile again.

Gun Woo is sitting outside, thinking instead of washing the stuff in the basin. Poong San comes out and asks Gun Woo about it. Gun Woo tells Poong San that he need to have a serious talk with Jung Joo about her illness. Poong San reminds Gun Woo that he said he wouldn't bring it up until Jung Joo does. Because talking about it is going to clear up the misunderstanding and Poong San doesn’t want that. Gun Woo declares that he needs to know the state of her condition since she's okay not doing anything about it.

Poong San squirms and says that Jung Joo doesn't want that. Aren't things the way they are now good enough? Gun Woo says they aren’t, because he's become uncomfortable. There’s that word, again, ‘uncomfortable.’ Funny how he only became uncomfortable when he started liking her… He’s made up his mind. He goes back inside. Poong San squirms. Gun Woo looks pretty serious. Should he tell Gun Woo the truth now?

Yoo Ja and Bok Nyeo are talking to Hae Shil about Hyung. They admitted him to the school, so why didn't he come? Hae Shil says that he’s a big show-off... but she’s worried because he looks rather weak. Bok Nyeo says that she saved his life from the sea. Her ties to him were made by the sea god, so she should take care of him to the end. And I notice that all the ajummas are wearing the pink diving mask. Gack. Although it does look good with the orange wetsuits. Yoo Ja disagrees. Hae Shil should ignore him even if he tries to go meet the sea god again! Hae Shil sighs.

Hyung is walking with his entourage. He suddenly stops when he sees Hae Shil. He asks Secretary Jang if he sees her, too. Jang says that she’s chairwoman of the Sorang Town Lady Diver Association. Hyung squirms. He doesn’t know what he should do. Hae Shil starts to glance in his direction. He spins around so that his back is to her. She recognizes Jang and yells for him. Hyung takes off walking in the other direction. The entourage follows and Hae Shil follows them, calling for Jang.

Hyung asks Jang if he called Hae Shil. He didn’t. Then why has she come? He tells Jang to go talk to her and then keeps on walking. Jang asks if she’s come to see Hyung. She says that she’s looking for someone else. She saw him at the resort... Does someone named Song Jung Geun work there, by any chance? Jang blinks. Mr. Song Jung Geun? Hae Shil says that he's full of lies, making claims like he's friends with the governor... He's Mr. Song in the lodging business. I would love to see Jang’s face right now, but they’re just showing Hae Shil’s. Would Jang be able to look for him?

Back in Hyung’s office, Jang’s told him what she said: She didn't come to see the president... but she came to look for Mr. Song in the lodging business? He’s happy when Jang answers, “yes.” He sighs, satisfied with himself. She missed him so she came all the way there and is waiting for him now... Jang shakes his head. So should he be nice and meet with her? Like he’s going to tell himself no. Where is she now? Jang clears his throat and says that since he thought it would trouble Hyung, he told her that they didn't have anyone like that and sent her away. Shattering glass sound effect. Hyung looks like he wants to beat Jang bloody, what with how he’s baring his teeth at him right now.

Hyung takes off running after her. He almost gets snagged by a few people but shakes free. As he makes it outside, she drives by on her ATV. He pulls out his phone and calls her, running after her as he does. She stops and when she sees it’s him, she answers. Sounds of Hyung panting. She asks herself if he’s lost his mind. Hyung catches up to her and collapses onto her ATV, leaning on her to keep himself upright. Lots of Hyung panting. They’re so cute.

Hyung has finally caught his breath. She asks why he didn't come and learn how to dive? He replies that he’s told her many times. He would go there to see her, not to learn how to dive. But she said that she didn't want to see him. That's why he didn't go. Then he commands her to be honest. Did she want to see him or not? Should he leave or not? Begrudgingly, she tells him not to miss class and come.

Hyung smiles widely. So she wanted to see him! How much must she have missed him that she'd come all this way to see him. Way to ruin it, dude. She says that she came to meet with the president, so she only did it because she was already there. Hyung knows that’s not true… since *he’s* the president. Hyung asks if she met with him. She says that she did. He asks what the president is like, then. She says that he's a bit chubby and round. He looked like a generous man.

Hyung tells her that she’s lying! She didn't get to see him! He’s practically gloating to catch her in a lie. She tells him that she’s busy, so she should get going. Hyung’s wrist grab makes her sit again. He asks if he should help arrange a meeting with the president? He can have her see the president right away. She tells him to stop lying. He claims to know the governor and now the president of the resort. Stop with the nonsense and come learn how to dive! Hyung clears his throat – a little surprised that she would be that blunt. He says that since she came to see him, he won't miss a class either.

He puts her helmet on her head as he says that the road’s probably bumpy because of the ramp construction, so he’ll make sure to cover it with asphalt by her next visit. He finishes with the helmet with a smack and a “Good!” (in English). She leaves. He smiles to himself.

Noona is hanging with Dead Face Harpy again. Does this woman have no sense? She says that Hyung must be dating someone lately. Dead Face Harpy says that there aren’t any signs of that. Noona says that since there aren't any rumors at the office, then it’s not someone from work. Dead Face Harpy does not look happy that her Oppa net is going to get rejected again. Noona wonders if Hyung met her when he came to Jeju. There definitely is someone. Noona says that she’ll tell Dead Face Harpy when she finds out who it is. Dead Face Harpy tries to smile like she’s happy.

Noona looks at her magazine and asks about how Dead Face Harpy feels about Gun Woo. She doesn’t feel anything, right? Dead Face Harpy smiles and says that they’re just friends. He’s like family. Noona says that, to be honest, it looks like she’s stringing him along. Dead Face Harpy sighs. Here comes another lecture. Noona tells her not to go overboard. She’s probably confident that Gun Woo only has eyes for her, but Gun Woo can betray her and turn his back on her in an instant just like his father. Dead Face Harpy asks if Gun Woo's father did that? To their late mother? Noona realizes that she blabbed again. She says that that’s a secret. And I have this vision of Dead Face Harpy throwing that in Gun Woo’s face when he’s finally in love with Jung Joo and trying to give her the brush off. Just another way to manipulate him.

Jong Bae has stopped by Town Hall because he heard that the team dinner was going to be at the Warm and Cozy and not at his Sorang Seafood Restaurant. Mayor says that the female employees never attend and it might be because the team dinner's always held at a raw fish place. So they’re just giving it a shot at a pretty restaurant this time. Jong Bae declares that it’s a bit disappointing, but Mayor’s working hard on getting married, so he should be understanding to that idea. Friendly ‘you dog’ arm punch.

Mayor blinks several times and tries to be convincing as he says that it's not like that. They’re not eating there so that he can impress someone. He tries to say that it’s about fostering exchange between the townspeople and out-of-towners. Jong Bae tells Mayor that he gets it. The best kind of exchange is to get paired up. Good job! Mayor does a head scratch and his assistant (MA) has been listening.

Later, Jong Bae tells MA that the townspeople have agreed on the marriage between the town mayor and the Seoul lady at Warm and Cozy. Wow, where does the couple fit into this? And what about Gun Woo? MA says that the town office employees share in that opinion. So they plot on how to make it happen, starting with the team dinner.

Jong Bae moves on to get Gun Woo’s buy in. Which, come on, even if he didn’t like Jung Joo, he still wouldn’t want to do it because it’s the Mayor. Gun Woo definitely doesn’t like the idea of cooperating with whatever they’re all cooking up. Gun Woo explains that Jung Joo has no interest in the mayor. A surprise or whatever it is, that's all useless. Jong Bae thinks it’s a good idea. Instead of playing Yut, they’re going to do arm wrestling. All the employees have agreed to lose to Mayor. Gun Woo imagines the scene with Mayor acting particularly dashing – I’m surprised they didn’t have his smile glint, with a ‘ding’ noise – and Jung Joo eventually being won over by Mayor’s masterful display of strength. Mayor’s posing is hysterical. It reminds me of ‘Hans and Franz,’ a musclemen skit on 'SNL,' where they posed ridiculously and made fun of men for being girlymans.

Gun Woo asks if Jong Bae honestly thinks that Jung Joo will fall for Mayor just because he wins a few arm wrestling matches? But that’s not all of their plan. They’ve prepared a necklace for the winner. ‘My Girl’ plays as Jung Joo prepares to receive the necklace. If they can get that necklace on Jung Joo’s neck, it will be a success! Is the necklace endowed with a spell that will make her the Mayor’s undying love? Are women really that shallow that they are won over by jewelry?

Okay, had to stop for a moment because I am cracking up at this part. Mayor and Jung Joo go palm-to-palm and lean forward so their heads touch. Then they turn and smile towards the camera, as if gloating. And then there’s the leg lift by both of them.

Gun Woo is really frowning. Jong Bae says that Gun Woo comes in after that. All the other employees will leave – like they’re tired or done for the day – and Gun Woo will push Mayor and Jung Joo into a darkened area and set the mood. Has no one in town been paying attention to his relationship with Jung Joo OR the Mayor? There is no way that Gun Woo would ever do this, even if he didn’t like her. This is helping to set up the Mayor. But I will say this, the fact that Jong Bae is involving him in the scheme means that, just like Mayor said, Gun Woo is becoming part of the community rather than a goof-off visitor from Seoul.

Gun Woo’s tone says that he thinks this is completely ridiculous. And it is. Jung Joo is not that shallow. How would he set a romantic mood? Play the piano for them or something? Jong Bae says that he just has to keep other people away, so they can do whatever they like. I am just shaking my head. Gun Woo declares that they'll do absolutely nothing! He’s sure she'll never accept a necklace given to her by the mayor!

Switch to Jung Joo wearing a huge visor, asking why she wouldn’t accept it when it’s free? Of course, she would. She’s brought one for Poong San, too. Poong San doesn’t want to because it looks like they were just giving it away. Gun Woo enters and notices the visors. Jung Joo is smiling happily at her new ‘treasure.’ She tells him that the new fruit store in the market was giving these visors out for free. Aren't they nice? She tells him that he can have the other one. Gun Woo takes it, but his face says that he doesn’t want to touch it. He asks her if she accepts and likes anything that's free? Of course, she does! It's free, after all. He still probably doesn't know her all that well, but she’ll never say no to free stuff. Gun Woo shifts uncomfortably.

Night of the Town Office dinner. Everyone is enjoying their food and having a good time. When Jung Joo brings the food, MA pulls out the seat next to Mayor and tells her to sit with them and eat. Jung Joo tries to refuse, but the MAII (the other assistant) insists. Jung Joo reluctantly sits. Pleasant conversation. MAII tells Mayor to pour Jung Joo some makgeolli. Jung Joo tries to refuse, but the crowd claps and chants, “Drink up! Drink up! Drink up!” Jung Joo reluctantly agrees.

Mayor sucks the rest of the makgeolli out of his bowl, shakes it out and wipes off the rim before giving it to her. Why did he just do that instead of giving her a clean one? MA tells Mayor to give the toast. Mayor’s toast: “For the success of our town office and the Warm and Cozy!” Everyone drinks (with Mayor drinking directly from the bottle).

Gun Woo is in the kitchen, glaring. Poong San comes and mentions how the town office employees are arm wrestling. It's fun. Gun Woo asks what Jung Joo’s doing? Answer: She’s sitting next to Mayor and cheering. Gun Woo frowns more.

The scene is playing out pretty much the way Gun Woo imagined it. Mayor just flexed his arm muscle and pointed at it proudly for Jung Joo’s benefit. I shake my head. It’s the final round. MAII reveals the necklace. MA asks Mayor who he’ll give the necklace to. Mayor says that he’ll give it to the one who cheered him on so that he can win! Very obviously, all the women (except Jung Joo) go to cheer MA. MAII pretends to be surprised that the only woman cheering for Mayor is the owner of the Warm and Cozy. Jung Joo feels a little awkward.

Mayor asks her if he should give her the necklace. Jung Joo protests that she’s not even a town office employee. Mayor declares that if she cheers for him and he wins, he’ll give her the necklace. Wows and clapping from the audience. Jung Joo says that if the other employees are okay with it... then she gives Mayor a big smile and tells him ‘Fighting!’

Gun Woo arrives, adding to the ‘Fighting!’ He declares that it’s very exciting right now. Jung Joo tells him about the necklace. He acts like he’s just hearing about this… and then says that, of course, Mayor will win. That's how the game is set up anyway. Everyone looks at Gun Woo. He’s actually brave to be doing it this way, where he can earn the wrath of everyone. But then, it’s *his* Jung Joo at stake. MA asks what Gun Woo means.

Gun Woo declares that you can tell right away that this employee doesn't possess a desire to defeat the mayor. Mayor looks at MA with a face that asks what Gun Woo’s talking about. Gun Woo says that MA is left-handed. Why didn't he mention his handicap before he started the match? Probably because he has no desire to win against the mayor. Crowd knows that they’ve been busted.

Mayor wants to use their left hands instead. Gun Woo asks why MA would put his strength into his left hand if he has no desire to win. Jung Joo pinches Gun Woo and tells him to stop. He asks her why he has to. He doesn’t work at the town office, so he can say what he wants. Gun Woo gets his indignant voice going. The match is unfair! The public office should be transparent about their ways! Heh.

Mayor slaps the table and stands, declaring that he's got it. Even if he wins, it'll be a dishonest win. But they should finish what they started... Whoa! Mayor looks at Gun Woo with challenge in his eyes and asks if Gun Woo wants to go against him instead? Jung Joo is surprised and looks at Gun Woo. Gun Woo looks at Mayor, not expecting that. Mayor says that since Gun Woo doesn't work at the town office… try and defeat him if Gun Woo can. There’s definite cocky mocking and challenge in his voice.

Gun Woo isn’t quite sure how to respond to this. His face is cracking me up. That and how he just shifted his stance. He asks Jung Joo if she wants the necklace. Does she want him to get it for her? He'll win the match and give that to her. Jung Joo doesn’t know what to say. Adjusting his shirt sleeve, Gun Woo says they’ll go for a round. Jung Joo’s face shows surprise, since this side of Gun Woo’s never come out before. He’s making me love him again! Intense glaring between Gun Woo and Mayor, with Jung Joo in the middle. I love it!

They dramatically prepare their hands for the arm wrestling. Mayor, face steel with determination, says they should end it in one round. Gun Woo replies that that sounds good. Poong San tells Jung Joo, with a smile, that whoever wins, the necklace is hers. She must be happy, right? Jung Joo smiles, uncomfortable. Right before they start, all of the town office cheers for Mayor and lone Poong San calls out, “Fighting, Gun Woo!”

Gun Woo gets off to a good start, but Mayor fights back. Jung Joo looks at the crowd – as the theme from ‘Chariots of Fire’ plays – and wonders about this strange sight. Two men are fighting over her. Part of her wants to hide under a rock... but it does feel really nice.

Slip into Jung Joo’s thoughts: she’s dressed as a princess – with blonde hair – with Poong San dressed as a European court attendant (complete with jaunty tam and light brown hair now). Gun Woo and Mayor are dressed in armor and have epées. Poong San leans in and asks her how she feels about becoming a princess? Demurely, she says that it’s embarrassing... but nice. Poong San asks who she would like to see win. Dramatically, Jung Joo thinks and supposes that if she thinks about regularly visiting the town office, then Mayor should win. But she can't throw aside her loyalty to Gun Woo who's with her at the Warm and Cozy. Poong San tells to follow her heart. Who is her heart cheering for? Her heart? Vigorous sword play between the men. Although they’re pretty much standing in place, waving the swords, and yelling occasionally.

Back to the real world. Her heart… Jung Joo looks and Gun Woo has almost lost. He bounces back, but Mayor makes another surge. And Mayor’s face is bright red. His eyes look like they’re about to pop! He looks in her direction. Mentally, Jung Joo tells Mayor that she’s sorry. She strikes the Red Clay Man pose, which completely shocks the Mayor. Gun Woo notices his lack of focus and slams his arm down on the table. Mayor stares at Jung Joo in disbelief (that she would use his secret). She bows deeply in apology and runs as Poong San and Gun Woo hug in victory.

Gun Woo grabs the necklace box and declares that it’s his! He looks so proud of himself. And I am proud of him, too. The Gun Woo from the first episode would never have done that. He wouldn’t have fought that hard for anything. Town employees can’t understand why Mayor suddenly went weak. Mayor scratches his head with both hands in disbelief.

Gun Woo enters the kitchen with the necklace. Jung Joo is there. He’s still smiling. He takes it out of the box and smiles some more. He walks over to her and tries to be casual. He tells her that he kept another promise to her! He offers the necklace, telling her to take it. She smiles and asks why he jumped in. She could've gotten this necklace for free anyway... Why did he jump in and give it to her? Because he can’t admit his feelings yet: Gun Woo says that he didn't jump in because of her. He jumped in because he doesn't like the mayor. Jung Joo stops smiling.

Gun Woo calls her the lover of free stuff and tells her to take it, since it’s for free. She looks at his hand, definitely not smiling now, and pushes it down and away from her. She tells him to forget it. She won't take it. Gun Woo wants to know, why not? Jung Joo tells him that he worked hard to win this so he should just give it to the girl he likes. She turns around, gets the next course, and leaves the kitchen. Gun Woo chuckles because he can’t believe it.

Phone call. We don’t hear who it is. Gun Woo leaves, but not before Jung Joo sees him do it. She asks Poong San if Gun Woo’s going somewhere. Poong San says that Gun Woo got a call and he’ll be gone for a bit since all the dishes that need to go out have already been served. Jung Joo asks if Poong San knows where Gun Woo is going. Poong San wonders – since its such a late hour – was the call from Dead Face Harpy? Isn't he going out to see her? Jung Joo smiles sadly. Especially since she just told him to give the necklace to the girl he likes. And off he goes to do it. But I don’t think that’s what’s happening.

Hyung is out with Noona and Dead Face Harpy. Ugh! Why is Dead Face Harpy there?! Hyung is in a good mood. Dead Face Harpy explains that preparations for the opening of the new building are going well. Noona asks if she can invite Gun Woo to the opening party? Hyung thinks that’s a good idea. Noona adds that Hyung should restore Gun Woo’s access to everything – his credit card and his rent. Hyung wants to see how Gun Woo is doing first.

Hyung tells Noona to bring her boyfriend, so he can officially meet the guy. Noona asks who Hyung is bringing. Dead Face Harpy looks particularly interested. Noona declares that it doesn't look good to see the president by himself at every event. If he has someone to introduce as his partner, bring her. (And Korean for partner is ‘pa-te-ner.’) Hyung chuckles. Dead Face Harpy suggests, if Hyung doesn’t have anyone, she could do it. Really? Hyung chuckles and says that she doesn’t need to do that.

Dead Face Harpy has crazy eyes going right now. Noona says – almost sounding like she’s scolding – that Gun Woo will be coming, so she should be Gun Woo's partner. Hyung asks if Dead Face Harpy is close with Gun Woo. Protesting face. Dead Face Harpy says that they’re close, but they're just friends. Oppa smile. Noona declares that that's not true for Gun Woo! Hyung didn’t know, did he? Gun Woo likes Dead Face Harpy. Hyung looks at Dead Face Harpy and chuckles again. Dead Face Harpy looks away and sips her drink. Her plan is ruined!

But she’s not ready to give up yet. Dead Face Harpy decides to wait for Hyung outside his villa. He’s surprised to see her. Crazy eyes mixed with Oppa face. Truly a psychotic vision. She declares that she has something to tell him. Hyung invites her inside. He is totally clueless. But Dead Face Harpy is on the hunt!

They sit by the pool. Doggie is there, tied to the pool's ladder. I guess they couldn’t get him to stay that day, because he really looks like he wants to go over and let them pet him. Dead Face Harpy says that she’s worried that he might be uncomfortable around her, if he got the wrong impression about her and Gun Woo. Hyung doesn’t see why that would make him uncomfortable. Dead Face Harpy says that when she said that she wanted to stand beside him as his partner earlier… those weren't just empty words. And if Noona was here, she would probably jump on you and pull at your hair. You are being ridiculous and insulting! And he is old enough to be your father!

Dead Face Harpy says that she’s been admiring him. Is it okay for her to stand beside him? Hyung replies that it doesn't sound like she wants to stand as his partner for just that day. Dead Face Harpy says that she’s called off an engagement, but it wouldn't be his first marriage either. So she thinks she’s qualified to stand beside him. Wow, is she delusional. All business, Hyung says that since she’s bringing it up in such a direct manner, it's better for him to be clear. She’s neither a part of his calculations or his heart. Bam! Wow. That is totally cold! And I am so happy! Go, Hyung!Hyung says that he intends to forget this conversation, too. So she can leave now. Dismissed! And dissed! Hyung is awesome! Hyung gets up and leaves. Dead Face Harpy is not happy. But I am.

Jung Joo is cleaning the kitchen up and comes across the empty necklace case. She looks at it, horrified. She was so hoping he would give it to her after she said that he should give it to the girl he likes. But where did he go, if he wasn’t going to see Hyung, Noona or Dead Face Harpy? Mayor walks up and notices that she’s annoyed over the empty box. He says that they’re leaving and asks for the bill. Jung Joo leaves to get it and Mayor wonders about the empty box.

Goodbyes leaving Mayor and Jung Joo to say good night. So I guess Gun Woo is doing his part, after all, since they're alone. Jung Joo thanks him for coming to the restaurant and apologizes about earlier. Mayor asks about the necklace. He at least wants to see it. Jung Joo has to admit that it’s not there. Mayor snaps that Gun Woo said he would win it and give it to her. Jung Joo replies that he did, but then she told him to give it to the girl he likes. Mayor can’t believe it. He took it and went to go see the girl he likes?

Scolding, Mayor tells Jung Joo that she acted like a fool and lost the necklace. Why be a cheerleader for the guy she likes? She should've been a cheerleader for the guy who likes her! Doh! Jung Joo isn’t sure she heard that right. Mayor asks if she’s really an idiot? She doesn't understand what he said?

Jung Joo looks pained. Then she starts. He knew that she likes Gun Woo? Mayor strikes the pose. Jung Joo nods and says that he’s right. Gun Woo doesn't like her at all. But she likes Gun Woo on her own. But does she deserve to be called an idiot for that? Mayor laughs because he can’t cry. He protests as he asks if it really sounds like he’s bad-mouthing her right now? He pounds his chest and cries (in JD) that it's so frustrating! She must be an idiot! She yells at him that he just cursed at her again!

Jung Joo starts to walk off, but Mayor grabs her arm to stop her. If she doesn't want to be called an idiot, she needs to look into his eyes and listen up. Jung Joo doesn’t want to look at him, as he’s leaning closer, but she has to. Mayor starts to repeat himself… but a car arrives. I was expecting Gun Woo, but it’s not him. It’s Dead Face Harpy. Why am I surprised and not surprised? She just got rejected, so she’s here for her self-esteem boost. I hate her so much.

Poor Mayor. Bad timing yet again. It’s fate telling you that Jung Joo is not for you!

Dead Face Harpy asks if Gun Woo is there. Jung Joo says that she thought he went to see Dead Face Harpy. Dead Face Harpy replies that he didn't which is why she’s there. Gun Woo's not there? Jung Joo says that she thinks he's out. Dead Face Harpy asks if Gun Woo went far. Jung Joo replies that it’s anyone’s guess. She’s not sure. Dead Face Harpy wonders where Gun Woo went. He's not even picking up his phone. He’s not taking her calls. Where *did* he go? Dead Face Harpy tells, rather than asks Jung Joo, that she’ll wait inside.

Jung Joo breaks out into a huge smile. Gun Woo didn't leave to give Dead Face Harpy the necklace! Mayor can’t believe that that makes her happy. How can she turn all smiley right away? His face looks like he’s smelling something unpleasant. Jung Joo tells him to not mind her… Just continue with what he was saying. Mayor tells her to forget it. She’s such an idiot, she wouldn't understand it even if he told her now. Mayor walks off, annoyed. Especially since she completely missed the part where he said that he likes her. Jung Joo frowns… but it’s because she’s wondering where Gun Woo went. Where did he go?

Ah! An answer! Gun Woo arrives at the hotel and greets an older gentleman. A doctor. They know each other well. Gun Woo thanks him for taking time out of his vacation. Affectionately, Doctor says that he should make time when it's for Gun Woo. Aw. I wonder if this guy has known Gun Woo since he was a kid. It sounds like it. Gun Woo’s contacted him about Jung Joo. Ah. Doctor asks if she’s really sick. Gun Woo says that he doesn't know what he should do for her and he’d like to discuss it with him.

Hae Shil is at home. Hyung calls. She answers with “Wei? Why?” He asks where she’s going. She asks if he’s watching her from somewhere? Which he is. He’s totally watching her right now. She looks around to see if she can spot him. He hides behind the wall. Hyung asks if he’s her CCTV. He doesn’t have that much time. She asks why he called, if he doesn't have time. He’s calling with a question. Ajumma, have you gone to a party? Wow. Even when he asks her out on a date, he’s prideful. He tells her that he doesn't think she has... so he was thinking maybe he should take her to one.Hae Shil replies that she goes to parties often. She’s on her way to one now, so she’s busy. And she hangs up. Deserved! Hyung can’t believe she's going to a party.

The party is a meeting of the Diving School. Hyung follows her. Hae Shil looks nice. Hyung mutters, “that’s what she calls a party?” Yoo Ja breaks out into some trot – probably by Na Hoon Ah. The party looks like fun. I wish I was there. Hyung looks like he wishes he was there as he watches her enjoy herself.

Flashback to breakfast with Noona. She tells him to bring his girl to this party. It's a good chance to introduce her to people. She has high hopes for the one he’ll bring.

Jong Bae catches Hyung spying. He’s Mr. Song, right? Mr. Song who's trying to mooch off of Hae Shil?

Over at the party, Bok Nyeo asks Hae Shil about Hyung and says that Hae Shil looks great these days. Bok Nyeo tells her that she deserves it. It's been 30 years since she said good-bye to her husband. It's about time that she forget him. Hae Shil says that she’s already forgotten about him. It's been a long time.

Hyung gets the 411 from Jong Bae: Hae Shil got married at 19 and came to Jeju Island. She lost her husband even before a year was up but she still lived on by herself for 30 years. Jong Bae tells Hyung not to come on to Hae Shil for a joke and ruin her reputation, okay? Hyung looks back at Hae Shil and sighs. Any suitors are neighborhood hooligans and her parties are drinking gatherings with neighbors. Is that the level of things that could happen to her?

Jong Bae doesn’t get why he’s talking about levels? Hyung’s just a mooch! Hyung turns to him and says that Jong Bae is right. He didn't realize her place. His imagination about her seemed to have gone too far off from her place. Jong Bae says that now that he knows his place, he should stop lingering around and leave. Jong Bae walks off. Hyung looks at Hae Shil and tells her to enjoy her party. He can’t invite her to his.

Hyung starts to walk away, when Hae Shil starts to sing. He’s moved by the song, by her.
I don't miss you anymore.
I don't have any desire to see you either.
I'm forgetting that we have loved... quietly.
What I don't understand is I feel that way,
But tears come up when it rains.
Just like the day you left, a very long time ago.

Hyung follows behind her as she walks home. She doesn’t know he’s there. Her eyes are watery.

At home, Hyung sits, thinking of how she reacted when she pulled him out of the sea. His eyes are watery, too.

Mi Ra is talking about her novel with Noona. The wife of the fisherman who died from the accident that day was a lady diver. Would the young lady diver who was 19 at the time still be in Sorang Town? Noona sounds annoyed as she answers that she doesn’t know. She told Mi Ra not to write a novel out of the story with her mom and Gun Woo's father. She said useless stuff after drinking... She’s the crazy one! She’s the crazy one! Mi Ra says that she gets it, but offers Noona another drink. Noona can’t understand why she talks a lot when she drinks. Then she tells Mi Ra to keep pouring.

Gun Woo arrives back at the Warm and Cozy. He thinks about his talk with Doctor. He’d taken a picture of the pill bottle: Fentanyl. Doctor is surprised and says that it’s a very strong pain killer. It won't be easy to treat the illness. Did she give up on treatment? Gun Woo looks particularly sobered by the news. Doctor tells him to convince Jung Joo to come to the hospital in Seoul as soon as he can.

Now in the car, Gun Woo wonders how he should bring it up? He is really having a hard time.

Jung Joo walks up and knocks on his window. Gun Woo gets out of the car. She asks why he didn’t come inside. He was waiting until she finished all the work by herself, right? He starts to say something, but instead says that she knows him too well. She tells him to hurry and come in. They still have a lot of things to finish up.

Inside, they are wiping down dishes. Jung Joo mentions that Dead Face Harpy came by. Gun Woo says that he got a text. She told him to come to an event at Hyung’s resort. Jung Joo tells him he should make up with his brother this time so he can move into the resort. Gun Woo doesn’t like that. He snaps that she’s dying to kick him out! She replies that he can't stay there for her forever. He replies that if she doesn’t kick me out... he could stay there.

Jung Joo is surprised. Since he said he’d lend this place to her until she dies, would he stay there until she dies? Gun Woo says he would. Jung Joo can’t believe he just said that. She tries to contain herself. He asks her if she has anything to tell him, by any chance? Uh-oh. Two different wavelengths… Jung Joo’s face can’t believe that he’s asking right now. Gun Woo adds that if there’s anything she couldn't say, because she didn't want to pressure him, it's okay. She can tell him. Jung Joo sputters as she tells him to forget it. Why would he talk about that in the middle of wiping plates?

Gun Woo asks her if she has any place she wants to go? Is he granting last wishes now? He proposes that they go to Hyung’s party at the resort and then go to any place she wants to go. She should think about where she wants to go! Jung Joo smiles and says that since he’s offering a free party and free sightseeing, she has no reason to say no.

Gun Woo gets a little annoyed. He asks if all of his heart for free? She chuckles and asks if it’s not for free, then how much is it? He shakes his head and sighs. He doesn’t know. He’s confused about how much it is. He grabs one of her conch shells and offers it to her. He tells her that there’s something inside of it. It’s the necklace. Aw.

Gun Woo says that the necklace wasn't free. He put all his effort into it until his arm almost fell off to get it for her. He didn't want the mayor to give it to her. He doesn’t know how much his heart is worth right now, but it’s not for free that he gives out to anyone. Jung Joo is moved. And so am I. Him talking about giving his heart and all. Gun Woo tells her to go up and rest. He’ll finish. Before she goes, she tells him that she cheered for him. She’s so cute. That makes him smile.

Jung Joo flops onto her bed, happy. She looks at the visor. It was given out to anyone for free. She tosses it across the room. She looks at the necklace, smiling widely and tells it that it’s real. Downstairs, Gun Woo thinks about how to talk to her about her cancer.

Jung Joo hangs a sign saying that the Warm and Cozy is closed. She looks really happy. And is wearing the necklace. Mayor rides up. He rings his bike bell to get her attention. He cracks me up when he sulks and gets all officious. When he notes that the Warm and Cozy is closed, she says that she’s going to a party and doing a tour of Jeju Island, too. He notices the necklace. He’s not happy.

Jung Joo asks him if he knows any nice pretty places. Mayor says that he knows many hidden scenic places that no one else knows about. Jung Joo asks if to tell her about those. Mayor says he doesn’t want to. See, cracking up over the sulking. Mayor declares that he’ll only tell the woman he likes about those places and go with her. Jung Joo protests. Mayor says that if she really wants to know, she can like him or marry him. She shouldn't try to get someone else's for free. He rides off. She mutters that he tells her to marry him over anything. I shake my head.

Jung Joo starts to go inside but Mayor has only ridden in a small circle. He tells her to go the place with the windmill. She doesn’t quite get what he said. Mayor rides off, disgusted with himself. He yells back that he’s talking about Windmill Beach.

[Noblesse Resort: New Building Opening Event]. The entertainment for the daytime photo event has cancelled. Assistant is not happy. Dead Face Harpy suggests calling the real lady divers? That’s not going to be insulting at all. Since the resort is sponsoring the lady diver festival, the ajummas wouldn't be able to say no.

Noona asks Hyung is he’s bringing his partner. He says that he is. And he’s wearing a white suit. A knight in shining armor. The hero in the white hat… Jang calls Hyung and tells him that Hae Shil isn’t home – because she’s gone to the resort. Jang will wait there until she comes. Hyung! Communication!

Hae Shil, Yoo Ja and Bok Nyeo go to the resort and are greeted by Assistant and Dead Face Harpy. Hae Shil looks wary.

Poong San and Gun Woo are dressed in suits. Poong San looks really dapper. So does Gun Woo. Gun Woo yells for Jung Joo to hurry. Jung Joo makes her entrance down the stairs. Really cute dress and she’s wearing make up and her hair is down. Gun Woo ‘oohs!’ appropriately. Calling her his Jung Joo, he tells her she’s pretty! Aw! And she’s wearing the necklace.

Jung Joo has to run back upstairs for her purse. Poong San sighs and says that he hopes that Jung Joo doesn't disappear from the Warm and Cozy. Gun Woo’s face turns serious and he sighs. Poong San, of course, notices. Solemnly, Gun Woo says that after the resort party, he and Jung Joo going to Windmill Beach. Poong San is worried. Is he going to talk to her about it there? Gun Woo is planning on it.

Gun Woo goes to get the car. Poong San squirms and says that he should confess everything to Gun Woo at the party. He'll be upset. What should he say?

Doctor Kim – Doctor that Gun Woo met with – is having coffee with Dead Face Harpy. Of course he is. She tells him that he should've called her. He declares that it’s a very short vacation. He mentions that he saw Gun Woo. Dead Face Harpy is intrigued. Doctor says that Gun Woo’s friend is sick. Does Dead Face Harpy know Gun Woo’s friend?

After the meeting, Dead Face Harpy wonders who Doctor could be talking about. Of course, she’s going to find out. She’s probably going to use it in some way. Because she has no soul. *That’s* why she has such a blank expression! She turns around to see Gun Woo entering the resort with Jung Joo. They are smiling and having a good time. And his smile is comfortable, not desperate like it is when he’s with you! Dead Face Harpy can’t believe it! Why did he bring that woman?

Diving Ajummas have set up. Assistant asks them to take pictures with foreign guests and children. Yoo Ja immediately gets offended. What is she doing? Are they some kind of toy? Assistant points out that her president is sponsoring the lady diver festival. Shouldn't they be helping them? Hae Shil asks if he’s sponsoring the festival so he can use them like this?!

Yoo Ja is ready to leave. They try to stop her. So it’s a struggle and Hae Shil gets knocked into the pool. Hyung arrives and he’s busted. She is hot (as in, angry). Someone brings a towel and, without saying anything, Hyung offers it to her. Hae Shil asks if Hyung’s the president there. He admits it. Ajummas are shocked. Hae Shil, her voice thick with indignation, asks if he’s the one who called them there. He says that there was some mistake... He apologizes. She snaps at him, asking if this is how he invites her to a party. It was a great party. I felt that from here. And she’s totally justified. She walks off.

Poong San and Jung Joo are in the hotel lounge. Gun Woo is going to see his sister and brother first. Jung Joo hopes that Hyung forgives Gun Woo. Poong San tells her to enjoy all she can right now. The situation could change a lot by the end of the evening. That’s not cryptic. And Poong San’s face looks like it’s giving him an ulcer, all the stress from this. Jung Joo asks what he means. He says that the gates of the truth are going to open.

Gun Woo appears before Noona. He mentions how she said she was going to look into selling the Warm and Cozy last time. He tells her to stop. He's not selling the restaurant. He’s being so serious and commanding. I like mature Gun Woo. I like fun-loving Gun Woo, too, but this is a nice change. Noona smiles, like he’s being ridiculous, and asks if he’s going to continue to lend it to Jung Joo. He answers that he is. That’s what he wants to do. Noona wants to know for how long. And she’s annoyed. Gun Woo answers, “Even a day longer, if it's possible.” Aw.

Poong San crosses paths with Dead Face Harpy. Oh, no. Run! Just run! He tries to greet quickly and run, but she won’t let him. She asks about Gun Woo having a hard time because of his sick friend. Poong San is shocked that Gun Woo told her about Jung Joo. Dead Face Harpy can’t believe it’s Jung Joo, but covers, like she knew all along. She says that he discussed the illness with a doctor that she also knows. She should be a spy. She’s really good at manipulating people and gathering information. Poong San mutters to himself that Gun Woo has a misunderstanding. Dead Face Harpy wants to know what he means.

Jung Joo is waiting for Gun Woo to come back from visiting his family. She checks to make sure she looks good. Dead Face Harpy arrives. Oh, no. I can already say that I hate her. I don’t even know what Dead Face Harpy is going to do, but I hate her. Dead Face Harpy acts all friendly. Jung Joo is standoffish. Dead Face Harpy sweetly notes that Jung Joo must be happy that Gun Woo brought her here. Jung Joo answers that she is – in a tone that suggests she wants to slap Dead Face Harpy to get her to leave.

Dead Face Harpy sits and says that Gun Woo is nice, so he's good to her when he's with her, right? He gave her the restaurant for free, helps her with work, and brings her here. Not wanting to deal with her, Jung Joo asks her what Harpy wants to say: 'Don't delude yourself just because Gun Woo's nice to you.' Is that what Dead Face Harpy wants to tell her? Smiling, Dead Face Harpy says that she understands well. But she really is deluding herself. Gun Woo thinks she’s really sick. Jung Joo asks what she means. Dead Face Harpy explains that Gun Woo is nice to her because he takes pity on her. He thinks she'll die soon. Jung Joo can’t believe what she’s just heard. Aw, and her heart is breaking all over again. Death to Dead Face Harpy!

Gun Woo is walking through the resort, trying to reach Jung Joo on the phone, since he can’t find her. He is really bothered. Dead Face Harpy finds him. Before she starts talking, he asks her to hold on. I love it. She innocently asks if he’s looking for Jung Joo. He replies that he is. They came together but he can't find her. Dead Face Harpy reports that she left. Gun Woo is confused. She left? He stops trying to call her.

Dead Face Harpy mentions the meeting with Dr. Kim to discuss Jung Joo's illness. Gun Woo wonders how she knew. She’s got her serious face on now. The one where she pretends to be concerned about someone. Dead Face Harpy says she saw Dr. Kim at the resort. He mention that Gun Woo was really worried about his sick friend. Was he *that* worried? Gun Woo answers that of course he was. She's his friend.

Gun Woo tells her not to get too involved with Jung Joo. She asks what she should do. She already got involved and learned about everything. Gun Woo looks down, like she shouldn’t have been nosy. He looks back up when she announces that it's all a lie that Lee Jung Joo is sick. Dead Face Harpy continues: he gave away the restaurant and helps her with work because she's sick, right? He was used. It's a lie! Jung Joo’s not sick at all. Gun Woo is processing what she’s said.

Dead Face Harpy looks sympathetic. He’s shocked, right? She’ll tell him more over tea. She reaches over to take his arm and escort him off to tea, but he pulls his arm out her hand. He isn’t looking at her either. She’s surprised. Gun Woo walks away without saying anything. Dead Face Harpy watches him go and smiles. What is he going to do? What is he thinking? And I hate her so much!!!!

Jung Joo has gone to Windmill Beach by herself. It’s really pretty, of course. She thinks about all the things that Gun Woo’s done for her:
  • Offering her food at the airport, so she has something to eat on her birthday
  • Offering to be her teddy bear and comfort her
  • Helping her make it to the top of Sunrise Peak: Does she really want to see the sunrise?
  • Asking if it’s her last wish (the night they were drunk and he gave her the Warm and Cozy)
  • Hugging her and telling her not to die
  • Making her food, the Warm and Cozy kind, and them eating it together
  • Making her mandarin tea because she might be sick
  • Fixing on the apron
  • Clucking over her at the resort in front of her old co-workers
  • Telling her to tell him if she gets even a little sick
  • Promising to be with her when she’s sick
  • Feeding her medicine when she was sick
  • Telling her that he’ll stay there until she dies
The tears start to come. She doesn’t sob, they just run down her cheeks. Because he did all that because he felt sorry for her, not because he likes her. Break her heart again. And I am feeling it in my gut. I can totally relate to how she’s feeling right now. I would be crushed, especially since it really looked like he was starting to like her.

Gun Woo arrives and gets out of his car. His face is unreadable. She sees him and stands. Dang, but I cannot tell what he’s thinking. Is he angry? Happy? Feeling betrayed? He starts to walk to her and stops about five feet from her. She smiles slightly and says that he came. His face is still unreadable.

She continues: what he wanted to ask her there... Was it about if she was dying? He looks away. I think I would start crying right about here. He thought she was sick enough to die... Her voice is starting to break now. He looks at her again. She asks if he’s been staying with her because he took pity on her? He looks down and swallows.

She tells him that she’s sorry. She’s not dying. How is she not crying right now? I am. Wait, she is. Gun Woo looks back at her. She says that she’s not dying. He became a complete fool. She’s starting to sob as she talks. He said he’s hers until she dies, right? What is he going to do now?

Gun Woo looks at her and then – in slow motion – he walks over to her and embraces her. His voice full of emotion, he says, “I'm still yours. Until you die... I'm yours.”

They stand there, him hugging her. Jung Joo’s face says that she can’t believe it. Gun Woo chuckles in disbelief and then smiles. Jung Joo reaches up and returns his embrace.

Episode Ends with a song that says ‘I love you.’

[Episode 8: Spicy Meat Soup with fernbrake]
  1. Bring pork backbones and knuckle bones to a boil to get rid of impurities.
  2. Discard the boiled water. Add new water and add the white part of scallion, ginger, garlic clove and soju. Boil for about one hour.
  3. Pick meat from boiled backbone and knuckle bones.
  4. Mix the meat with cooked fernbrake in a bowl and add them back in the stock.
  5. Simmer for a while over low heat.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Garnish with sliced scallion, sesame seeds, red pepper flakes and green pepper slices on top.
Spicy meat soup with fernbrake is complete! Have a warm and cozy night!

I’d never heard of fernbrake, so I looked it up and found this recipe for Yukgaejang 육개장 (Spicy beef and vegetable soup).

Thoughts

Oh, my gosh. Wow, that ending! Yoo Yeon Suk and Kang So Ra acted the mess out of it and it was awesome. Just the nuances that were there, said so much. And, wow, Gun Woo has really grown up in the last few days. His reaction to the whole thing… pulling away from Dead Face Harpy and her games, going to Jung Joo instead of stewing or pouting, not blasting her for betraying him, and then the embrace! That’s some healthy emotional behavior!

And what does that all mean?! Was this just a love declaration? Did he get there that fast? Because he only just started confronting his feelings for her at the beginning of the episode. Of course, he's not that self aware that he tells her that he *got* himself kicked out of the resort so he could come back... Instead he only says that he got kicked out again. And even though he still isn't in touch with it, he's already working on his campaign to win her by doing things like pointing out ways that he is worthy. For example: he kept his promise to be there when she's sick. His arm almost fell off with the effort it took to fulfill his promise of winning her the necklace. And he's doing things to prove that he's worthy, like looking out for her, even though he doesn't realize it. Which is one of the reasons why I am enjoying it all.

Another reason why I'm enjoying it all is because the more he feels loved by Jung Joo and the more that he loves her, the more he lets the kind, vulnerable part of himself out. Him seeking out a doctor to help her... him feeling burdened by her illness... him wanting to give her a great day... none of those things are done out of his selfish ambition, but his caring heart. Also, the more he likes Jung Joo, the less a sway anything having to do with Dead Face Harpy has on him. I hope the trend continues.

I wonder what his mother did tell him about his father that made him hide away and change. I just rewatched that scene and after his mother says, "Do you understand? That is the truth about your father," she walks away with a satisfied smile on her face. As Gun Woo reacts to whatever she's told him, the voiceover says, "When you are met with a truth you never thought of, when you want to hide from reality." There has to be something more to it than just that his father was a murderer. Gun Woo laughed with disbelief, shaking his head, and tries not to cry. There has to be more to the story.

I do have to say, if Yoo Yeon Suk keeps going the way he is, he's going to have me totally in love with Gun Woo. There were a couple of times where I was fanning myself -- like the scene by the refrigerator where he's totally clueless that it's a moment. I could completely understand why Jung Joo was squirming. And when he does stuff that breaks Jung Joo's heart, it gets mine, too. Like I've said before, I totally attribute that to Yeon Suk's acting. And Kang So Ra is making me love her, because she's the best friend you want to have. I might fall in love with Gun Woo, but if I was a player in this scenario, I would want him to be with Jung Joo because she makes him happy and because she brings out the best in him.

But what all happened in this episode that I think is a worth discussing?
  1. Gun Woo uncomfortable because of his growing feelings for Jung Joo - I loved every moment of it.
  2. Hyung chasing Hae Shil down on foot. That was just awesome. I love how being in love is making him do some crazy things.
  3. The arm wrestling match. It led to some significant things:
    1. Gun Woo's become part of the town because they're involving him in the plan. He's not that outsider from Seoul, but a member of the community, the family.
    2. Gun Woo's reaction to the plan - he hated it (because he *doesn't* want Jung Joo with Mayor (or anyone else) and he was over-confident in his own understanding of Jung Joo.
    3. Jung Joo, while she might like Mayor, her true loyalties lie with Gun Woo (even to the point of not realizing Mayor confessed).
    4. Gun Woo's reading of the situation. Maybe it's just in his relationships where he's clueless, but in reading people, he's really insightful. Not only did he totally call out the power relationship at play, but he also noticed that MA was left-handed, something even the Mayor missed.
    5. Gun Woo's reaction to winning - he was totally overjoyed that he won, so much so that he hugged Poong San. I can't see the Gun Woo that we first met, who gave up easily, fighting that hard to win.
    6. The Mayor's interest in Jung Joo became really obvious -- from how he flexed his muscles for her, arm wrestled Gun Woo for the necklace, and then even declared himself.
    7. Gun Woo's initial offering of the necklace and getting rejected, which only lends to his worries about her and the Mayor.
    8. Jung Joo told Gun Woo to give the necklace to the girl he liked and he gave it to Jung Joo, adding that his heart isn't free (easy) and his arm nearly fell off earning it for her.
  4. Hyung's dissing and dismissal of Dead Face Harpy. He totally shut her down. There was no hesitation whatsoever and he is quick to see through her. Unlike Noona -- who seems to constantly be doing things that are destructive, like drinking with Mi Ra, even though she knows she already said too much; and listening to Dead Face Harpy, even though she knows the girl is manipulative -- he doesn't buy into Dead Face Harpy's act at all. Just loved that whole thing. Dismissed and dissed.
  5. Gun Woo's serious enough about Jung Joo that he sought out his old doctor and planned on broaching the subject with her - everything that surrounds this makes me love him: his concern, his discretion, his desire to give Jung Joo whatever she wanted to make her happy, his determination to help her.
  6. Hae Shil's backstory - we've heard snippets and whispers, but Jong Bae explained what she meant about meeting her fate at 19: she lost her husband tragically in less than a year. That song she sang was so laden with meaning. Plus, it's tied to Gun Woo's father, which means, Gun Woo and Hyung. And even though everyone keeps calling Gun Woo's father a murderer, Mi Ra described it as an accident.
  7. The fact that everyone tells Dead Face Harpy things that are none of her business: Doctor Kim, Secretary Jang, Noona. Even Poong San. Why, when she asks, do they tell her? Don't they know that loose lips sink ships?
  8. Hyung's secret is out. In a very dramatic way, too. Instead of him being the hero in white, he becomes the villain and Hae Shil is humiliated. Of all the ways to find out, I can't think of one that could be worse. And who is the cause of it? Well, Hyung, but it's Dead Face Harpy. Because it never occurred to her that participating in a photo op might be insulting to these proud lady divers, she suggested it, because she's very selfish and doesn't care about other people's feelings.
  9. Dead Face Harpy finds out the truth - which of course, she immediately tries to use to manipulate Gun Woo. I hate her! But I love that Gun Woo didn't fall for it. I love that he pulls his arm out of her hand, without looking at her and just walked away. I love that her spell is broken.
  10. Jung Joo finds out the truth - that Gun Woo thinks that she's dying and that's why he gave her the Warm and Cozy. Watching her cry was painful. But I loved how she reacted to it, too, because she kept her dignity, even as her heart was breaking.
  11. Gun Woo finds out the truth - and instead of feeling manipulated, used or betrayed, which he easily could have felt, he saw it for what it was, a misunderstanding, and instead was just happy that she was going to live. He also saw her heart - I mean, the part where she was crying wasn't for herself, but it was for him, for the fact that he became a complete fool again because of someone. And the best part was that he hugged her and told her that he was hers forever, until she dies. Man that whole ending was awesome - Jung Joo's surprise that he really cares and Gun Woo's relief.
Man, that's a lot of stuff for one episode. But was it really a love declaration? What's going to happen?!!!

And I can't close out without talking about Hyung. I love him and am so happy that Lee Sung Jae is playing him, because it shows his range as an actor. The three roles that I've seen him in, he's inhabited them in different ways. Also, Hyung is awesome. For one - I love his relationship with Hae Shil and how he isn't too proud to chase her, even if he does constantly talk about how awesome he is and tell her how much she's crazy about him. He still ends up doing some really silly things and it's really amusing watching someone so dignified end up that way. For two - he totally shut Dead Face Harpy down. In a very business-like manner, and, true to his word, he acts like the whole thing never happened. Plus, he has a dog.
