Sweet Stranger and Me Episode 8 Recap

Episode Eight begins with Na Ri’s return to the house. Still in the car, Duk Bong says that he’ll buy those books for her. She says that it has to be those books. He tells her to go get the books and come back out. He’ll wait for her out front. She tells him not to wait. He replies that if he doesn’t wait for her now, he feels like he won't get another chance. And they both know they’re not talking about the books. If she’s uncomfortable with him being in front of the house, then he’ll go to the museum. So she can give him a call when she’s done. Duk Bong insists that he’s not half joking and half serious here. Aw, poor Duk Bong. I think she’s the first girl he’s wanted to date that he ever really liked.

Na Ri says that she’s not just going to get the books either. She knew why she came back, too. Duk Bong says they should negotiate. Aw, his poor face. Not that I want him to get the girl, but I feel bad for him, just the same. He says he won't wait for her and will go straight to Seoul so that she won't feel uneasy. In exchange, she’ll put some time aside for him later. He’s got something to say to her. She agrees – if only to get out of the car.

Duk Bong brings her the suitcase. She says that she’s leaving and practically runs back inside. He tells at her to make sure she gets in touch with him this time! It’s like he’s not even there. He mutters to himself that she should at least answer him.

Na Ri walks towards the books. She sighs and looks at them. Nan Gil arrives. They are going to show it again. Whee! Nan Gil says that he thought she wouldn't come. She says that she’s taking the books. He says that he call her because of the books. He says that he decided that if she came back, he would tell her everything. She turns around and says that he should tell her.

She asked if she's his first love and if he still likes her, right? From the time he was young until now, he has.

♬ You are mine ♬

Na Ri asks why he said that his feelings ended. Because he’s sorry. She asks what he’s sorry for? Slight pause and he says for love her, Hong Na Ri, he’s sorry.

♫ I learned that love could change a person ♫

He crosses to her to kiss her.

♫ Because it’s you. If it’s the two of us. ♫
♫ Wherever we are in the world ♫
♫ With you ♫
♫ Let’s hold onto each other like back then ♫

And it’s just as awesome to watch again.

♫ With me ♫
♫ Let’s love like we did back then ♫
♫ With you ♫
♫ Let’s look at each other like we did back then ♫
♫ With me ♫
♫ Let’s protect each other like back then ♫

They stop kissing and he looks at her. And I want to melt.

♫ You’re my everything ♫

He's still holding her face.

 ♫ I’m your everything ♫
♫ It’s our everything, my love ♫

She smiles softly at him.

♫ You are my everything ♫

Duk Bong is steaming as he’s driving. And I laugh. Poor Duk Bong. He can’t find anything good on the radio. Switches to Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars’s ‘Uptown Funk.’ He almost gets into an accident. Not his fault. He honks furiously at the stupid driver.

♬ This hit, that ice cold. Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold ♬
♬ This one, for them hood girls. Them good girls. Straight masterpieces. ♬
♬ Stylin', wilin’. Livin' it up in the city ♫
♬ Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent. Gotta kiss myself I'm so pretty ♫

He pulls over and asks himself why he’s so pissed off.

♬ I'm too hot (hot damn) ♫
♬ Call the police and the fireman ♫
♬ I'm too hot (hot damn) ♫
♬ Make a dragon wanna retire man ♫

He yells and pounds his steering wheel in frustration. Over and over.

♬ I'm too hot (hot damn) ♫
♬ Say my name you know who I am ♫
♬ I'm too hot (hot damn) ♫

Poor Duk Bong.

Back at the house, Nan Gil is sweeping while Na Ri walks with him. He’s sorry for loving her? Did she just hear a love confession or a prison confession? He answers, “Both.” And I chuckle. He knows how bad it was. She’s got an idea, but not really any clue. She says there’s a movie called "Love Story" that was made way before they were born. I hate that movie. “Love means never having to say that you’re sorry.” What a load of horse manure! Nan Gil says that he knows. She’s surprised but they say at the same time that Oma liked it. They smile. The way he’s fiddling with that broom, it’s like he’s 12 and just kissed his first girl. But she is probably the first girl he’s ever kissed, so I’ll give it to him.

Na Ri says that he’d know the famous catchphrase from that movie, too. He grins at her. "Love means never having to say you're sorry." See, I hate that catchphrase. Even if you love someone, you should still say sorry when you mess up. He smiles and she does, too. She asks if they should, when it snows, have a snow fight like the characters in that movie did? He looks at her. Kiss her again! Na Ri says they can also lie on their backs in the snow and eat it. Grinning sheepishly, he says he’s never done something that childish his entire life. Ah, but you wished you could… She tells him that there are way too many childish things that he hasn’t done his entire life. He’ll have to do them all with her. They smile at each other.

He walks over and is about to kiss her again when Yong Kyu comes out and yells at him about getting back to work. Doh! Yong Kyu immediately starts trying to figure out where he should look – since he busted up Boss’s moment – He runs back inside as soon as he can find the door. Rolling right now. Na Ri and Nan Gil get awkward again, with Nan Gil sweeping vigorously.

Duk Bong has gone to his shrink’s office. He’s still agitated. He asks Shrink if Chairman is also consulting with him. He is. That old man can't do that. He's too ignorant. All that comes out of his mouth are lies. Does he think business is some kind of joke? He makes a ton of money and calls this a hostel operation. Duk Bong says that thinking that he might end up like his old man, it gives him chills. He gets chills, literally. Shrink furiously scribbles on his pad.

Duk Bong leans in and tells Shrink to make sure Shrink tells the Chairman exactly what he just said. Pointed finger for emphasis. ‘He calls this a hostel operation and interfere one more time and I will let him have it.’ Shrink laughs – a little uncomfortable? Like Duk Bong thinks he’s crazy to tell the Chairman that? – and asks if there’s anything else that's causing him stress besides the matter with the Chairman?

Duk Bong thinks. Na Ri not wanting him to wait pops into his head. He hisses with annoyance. He starts to say something, then thinks about Na Ri saying “If I say that I'll think about it, then you'll be waiting for my answer.” He tries to find words. Shrink leans closer.

Duk Bong leans back quickly in his seat and tell Shrink to please do something about Duk Shim. Her emotions are like a giant wave. Her emotions just flare up out of nowhere. It's hard for him to just watch her. Imagine how much harder it is for her. Aw, a good oppa. And he says he doesn’t care… Shrink asks if he feels responsible for her. Duk Bong denies it: No, not at all. If he felt responsible for Duk Shim, wouldn't that mean that there's something wrong with his brain (mental problems)? Because filial concern is a sign of mental illness. What a family.

Clock chimes. I guess their time is up. Duk Bong stands up and goes over to Shrink’s mirror. I wonder if there’s a camera there? I wouldn’t put it past Chairman at all. He fixes his hair. Not that it was a mess at all. Shrink says that the Chairman would prefer Duk Bong to go back to being a lawyer instead of doing business– He’s interrupted by Duk Bong wordlessly shoving all the books on the shelf underneath the mirror onto the floor in one violent push. Shrink sits there with bulging eyes. What kind of shrink are you that a little outburst like that – wordless – causes you to bug out? Duk Bong walks over to Shrink and leans over Shrink’s desk. Chairman wants him to go back and take care of the dirty fight going on at the house? Does Shrink think he’d do that?

Na Ri and Nan Gil wait at a bus stop. She is sitting with her hands in her lap and he is sitting with his hands on his knees. It looks so awkward. Heh. Na Ri tells him not to make that kind of face. It makes him look like he’s regretting it. He replies that it’s because he doesn't believe it. His dream finally happened. Na Ri answers that it may seem unbelievable and he’ll feel like he’s dreaming at first, but once he snaps out of his fantasy, he may look at her with her stress-induced insomnia and gradually-increasing wrinkles and be disappointed. Throw those words back in his face. Heh.

Na Ri sighs and says that she feels depressed now that she’s said it out loud. Nan Gil says that it won't happen for him, but if she happens to go to Seoul and snaps to her senses and wonders what she did back here, then she should tell him. He’s okay with it. Self-sacrificing to the last. Na Ri asks what he’s specifically okay with. Her voice says that she’s totally not going to do that, but she’s going to give him a hard time. He shrugs and says, “Everything.”

Na Ri sets her chin and asks if it’s okay if she suddenly stops getting in touch with him. Nan Gil give an affirmative nod. It's okay if she dates another man? Another nod. It's okay if she suddenly comes to see him? Another nod. Will he come if she tells him to? Nod. He’s going to do everything she tells him to? Nod. Getting a mischevious glint, she asks if he’ll die if she tells him to? No nod this time. He asks if her questions aren’t a bit childish? Na Ri smiles and says that this is what it's usually like when you start dating. Welcome to the world of childishness. Nan Gil looks out into the road and smiles.

Na Ri says that long-distance relationships are like growing crops. He said that crops grow by hearing the sound of farmers’'footsteps. Long-distance relationships are the same. They grow by their interest in each other. Even if it's embarrassing, he needs to send text messages, pictures, and childish heart emoticons. She asks if he agrees. Of course he does. Nan Gil nods. She asks if he’s not going to write it down. He feels in his pockets and declares that he doesn’t have a pen. He’ll memorize it instead. ‘Send text messages, pictures, and childish heart emoticons.’ Na Ri tells him not to respond to childish words with serious ones. Welcome to the world of dating – your girlfriend will say one thing and mean another.

Bus arrives. Na Ri boards. Bus starts to go, but Nan Gil takes off after it, pounding on the bus for the driver to stop. Luckily he does. When driver opens the doors, he apologizes and hurries to the back of the bus to sit by Na Ri.

♫ Slightly longer hair, looks like you've lost weight ♫

Na Ri gives him a hard time for skipping work to ride the bus with her.

♫ Fool, don't you know? ♫

Na Ri says she knows what’s on his mind. They should stay like they are now. They are beyond the age of not knowing what's ahead or behind us. They have a lot to work out. They should continue the way they are. Nan Gil agrees to it. He’ll take care of everything, so they should just stay how they are now. Na Ri says that she's not going to try to find out Oma’s secret. She’ll think of it as there's no reason for her to know. They should move forward just looking ahead. Nan Gil says, “Okay,” with a smile.

Na Ri tells him to get off at the next bus stop. He’ll have to walk a lot.

♬ You were the only one for me from the beginning ♬
♬ Do you know that? I want to hold you ♬
♬ Will you ever find out how I feel? ♬

Nan Gil gets off the bus.

♬ Fool, don't you know? Do you really not know? ♬
♬ Don't you know that everyone knows but you? ♬

Na Ri waves at him, a big smile on her face, as she rides away.

♬ Don't become prettier. I'm getting more uneasy ♬
♬ I'm starting to like you more, I'm starting to love you more ♬
♬ Fool, don't you know? ♬

Once the bus is out of sight, Nan Gil’s shoulders sag. On the bus, Na Ri’s do, too, and she becomes pensive. Aw, it will be okay. Ride the love wave!

Nighttime. Joon and Han Yi’s Fiat is outside of the house. Inside, Nan Gil is dressed in a black suit and black shirt. When he walks into the restaurant – presumably to leave – Joon and Han Yi are there. Nan Gil sighs and asks if the pair are monitoring him. He’ll be going by himself today. Joon looks like he’s not having that. He says that he’s not one to listen to just anyone. Han Yi says that he only listens to Joon. Nan Gil sighs. He’s not going to be able to change their minds.

They’re about to get in the car when Nan Gil changes his mind. Where were they going? And those boys are cool. They’re looking out for him. They have to know about his anxiety disorder. The boys are surprised. Nan Gil goes and sits on the outside swing. His phone buzzes. It’s Wan Shik. He doesn’t answer it. Just sets it in the swing beside him.

Wan Shik looks uncomfortable/nervous as he hangs up the phone and tells Director that Nan Gil is not answering his phone. Uncle is sitting there, too. What, are they holding Uncle hostage? Facing the wall behind his desk, Director says that it seems like Go Nan Gil has a lot of worries. He isn't someone to not keep promises. He isn't someone who avoids phone calls either. Is he afraid of what he will hear? Or...

Director turns around and pointedly says, “Is he uncomfortable with the uncle sitting there?” Uncle stutters that he will try calling – Director picks up a glass ashtray and hurls it at the wall behind Uncle’s head. Uncle hollers with fear. Wan Shik is also freaked out by this display and looks down at the floor. And like the true abuser he is – Director says that he used to do that sort of thing a long time ago. Does Wan Shik have to make him throw an ashtray at this age?! Wan Shik swallows, afraid. As he should be.

Looking at Wan Shik, Director says that if he screws him over one more time – he raises his finger to point at Wan Shik – He’ll be the first one who dies. Why does he stay with this man?! The venom in Director’s voice. You know he means it, too. Wan Shik knows he means it. Wan Shik swallows and tries to remain frozen. Uncle’s eyes are bugging out.

Wan Shik calls Nan Gil again. Nan Gil still doesn’t answer. He thinks of his earlier conversation with Na Ri, those childish things they’re going to do together. He says aloud, that, yes, they should do them all. And, of course, because this ‘rom-com’ borders on the melo, I worry that it won’t actually happen! At least they kissed early. Unless that’s a sign of bad things to come… Arg!

Airport. Na Ri is beaming when she runs into Shi Eun and the other hoobaes. Shi Eun asks what’s up with Na Ri’s face. Na Ri worries that it’s wrinkles but Shi Eun says that it looks like it's had extra doses of collagen! May be she’s put on a tubful of cream every day? Or, is she dating? Na Ri coyly says that it’s from the air. Yeo Joo walks up, gives Na Ri a glare and wordlessly walks by the group. Shi Eun is offended for Na Ri. Na Ri just smiles.

Shi Eun and the hoobaes head onto the flight. Na Ri runs into Yeo Joo again – the girl stepped into her path. Na Ri stands there and waits for Yeo Joo to get finished (like she’s not even listening). Yeo Joo declares that she broke up with Dong Jin. Na Ri says that they’re not in the type of relationship where they report things like that... She’s thinking of Nan Gil telling her that they’re not in the type of relationship to speak to each other rudely like that. Na Ri smiles at the thought of him.

Yeo Joo snarks that Na Ri must be happy. She can't hide her facial expression. Yeo Joo demands to know if Na Ri’s going to date Oppa Dong Jin again. Na Ri lifts her hand and declares that she threw that trash – points at Yeo Joo – into this trash can right here. Heh. I love her style. Yeo Joo smiles bitterly. She gets her aegyo going and tells Na Ri to set her up a date with that little brother friend of hers (Duk Bong). Na Ri asks if Yeo Joo isn’t good at doing that kind of thing yourself. Yeo Joo asks if it’s okay if she dates him? Na Ri repeats that they don't have the kind of relationship where they talk about things like that.

Yeo Joo tries another tact: She heard that Dongsaeng’s dumpling restaurant is pretty popular. Na Ri yells a ‘ya!’ at Na Ri. She snaps at Yeo Joo, asking if Yeo Joo thinks that Na Ri views Yeo Joo as a person just because she’s letting Yeo Joo talk to her? Yeo Joo is smirking. Does Na Ri know that that dumpling restaurant dongsaeng is her weakness? It's way too obvious that Na Ri likes him. Yeo Joo tells her:
Don't ever come onto younger men first.
Don't call them first, hang up on their calls, and act cold toward them.
With younger men, when you act disinterested and arrogant, they take the first move and start liking you.
Why is she going to take advice from minx Yeo Joo? Na Ri gets insecure for a moment. Was she wrong? She thinks back to Nan Gil apologizing for loving her and then kissing her. She smiles widely to herself and asks what’s important about who showed interest first. Yeo Joo is not happy that her plan to make Na Ri insecure didn’t work.

Na Ri’s phone dings with a text. It’s Dong Jin. He wants to meet once before he leaves for Hong Kong. He has something that Mother gave him to return to her. Yeo Joo is staring at Na Ri’s phone. She mutters that the pair of them are disgusting. She stalks away. Na Ri pulls up a picture of Nan Gil and the boys taking a break from making dumplings. Nan Gil looks so cute with that big smile on his face!

Back at Hong Dumplings, Nan Gil is sitting outside – in his chef clothes – looking sadly at his phone. He looks so pathetic. Those insecurities must have set in. Particularly because he’s half expecting her to go back to Seoul and dump him. Or three-fourths expecting. He looks up at the sky and sighs. There’s a text and he hurries to check it. It’s Yong Kyu: Boss, let’s knead some dough. Heh. Nan Gil looks to his left. Yong Kyu is standing there with his arms crossed. Yong Kyu looks away like he didn’t see anything. Nan Gil rolls his eyes, sighs and goes inside, with Yong Kyu asking if he’s developed an obsessive disorder with his phone at such a late age?

Na Ri is at home, snapping pictures of her apartment. She starts to text Nan Gil that this is the ‘Teach About Hong Na Ri in Seoul’ project, but hesitates. She told him to get in touch with her, and he's not? She’s annoyed. Nan Gil is sitting at the table, staring at his phone. It is killing him not to have gotten in touch with her yet. But he’s giving her that out… Shake the boy’s shoulders!

Na Ri calls him. She asks if he’s been doing okay. He grunts a ‘yeah.’ She replies that he said that he’d memorize it, but he must not have. He asks what she means. Sending text messages, pictures, and childish heart emoticons. Why isn’t he doing that? He smiles and says that he thought that they decided to stay like they are now.

Na Ri asks if staying like they are now means not getting in touch with each other. Is he playing hard to get? Nan Gil protests that he’s never done something that childish in his entire– and then realizes that he's been doing it a few times these days. Na Ri says that she decided to meet up with Dong Jin after she goes on this flight. Dong Jin's going to Hong Kong because he's been assigned to work there. He said that he has something to say to her for the last time. Nan Gil tells her that she doesn't have to tell him things like that. She doesn’t want you feeling insecure.

Na Ri remembers: she can do whatever she wants, right? She waits for Nan Gil to say something. He doesn’t. Na Ri starts to tell him that she misses him, but Yeo Joo’s words about not making the first move stop her. And if Nan Gil had ever dated anyone before, they might apply, but he’s already told you he’s in love with you. The boy’s put it all out there. No game-playing on his end. Na Ri asks if Nan Gil is enduring it well. Nan Gil doesn’t say anything. Na Ri remembers Yeo Joo saying that she should hang up on him. So she does. Nan Gil sadly looks at his phone.

Na Ri berates herself for following Yeo Joo’s advice. As she should! Yeo Joo tries to win a man through playing games. That is not what you want! Ah, so childish. Why is she doing something so stupid?! She flops back on her bed. Nan Gil is confused why she hung up, so he calls back. Na Ri mutters that the advice was effective. Even though she’s excited, she answers the phone with an indifferent “What?”

Nan Gil says that she was going to let him know about the Hong Na Ri that lives in Seoul. She tells him he needs to show her the lettuce growing.

♬ Slowly, little by little, I love you ♬

When they get off the phone, Na Ri sends him pictures of where she works: the airport and the plane. He smiles as he looks at them. She probably snapped them just itching to send them to him.

♬ I'll get one step closer, love you ♬
♬ Closer ♬

This is such a good song!

♬ I've never thought about it ♬

She sends him pictures of her apartment. It's a place she lives and works in. A picture of the café: This is her friend's cafe that she goes to often. Nan Gil just smiles as he looks at the pictures.

♬ You and I, just the two of us ♬
♬ The two of us forever ♬
♬ I want to live here with you. It’s just a small wish ♬
♬ You don't know, do you? You still don't know, do you? ♬

Nan Gil does a live movie of her lettuce.

♬ Because that fearless imagination is so ridiculous ♬

He tells her that he’s let them hear his footsteps a lot. She answers that she wants to see her babies that she planted.

As she’s at the airport, Nan Gil sends her pictures of her growing lettuce. Na Ri tells herself that this is not a secret love affair but an all out relationship. She’s smiling widely. Yeo Joo walks up and makes an excuse to grab Na Ri’s phone and walk off with it. She look at Dong Jin’s text suggesting that they meet at Ran Sook's cafe the day Na Ri’s flight is over. Na Ri snatches the phone back and tells Yeo Joo to consider herself lucky she’s in uniform.

Outside Hong Dumplings, protestors call for Nan Gil to stop delaying the resort development. Soon Rye is busy, snapping pictures. Repent! Repent! Repent! They should stop being egotistic! Duk Bong has arrived. He sighs, angry, and calls him father. He tells Chairman that if he’s planning on doing something, he shouldn’t torture the employees. Discuss it with him first, please! It cracks me up that he adds the ‘please’ on at the end. Duk Bong leaves.

Inside, Duk Shim is there for the part-time job that Yong Kyu has advertized. He’s borrowed some of Soon Rye’s clothes and has lost her glasses. She looks very mature and very pretty. Yong Kyu recognizes her: she’s that student who's a regular at their restaurant. Like he doesn’t know who she is. But what's with her clothes? It doesn't suit her at all. Heh – he likes her just the way she is. You need to stop liking Nan Gil and start liking him. He’s only a few years older than you. Annoyed, Duk Shim holds up his ad: “Searching for a part-time older woman to help in the kitchen.”

Yong Kyu asks why Duk Shim took the sign down. Duk Shim declares that competitors should take the lead. I shake my head. She’s trying to squeeze Na Ri out. Yong Kyu yanks the ad out of Duk Shim’s hand. He quotes the ad: “We are looking for an older woman to help in the kitchen.” He definitely wrote that down there very clearly. Duk Shim gestures at her outfit and says that she has that older lady feel when she wears these clothes, doesn’t she? She mutters that he’s not even the boss. Yong Kyu starts screaming for the Boss! And I crack up. Duk Shim preens as she waits for Nan Gil to arrive.

Duk Shim and Nan Gil sit at one of the tables. He’s sitting there just looking at her. He admits that they really get busy when winter vacation comes, so they do need a part-time worker. But, there's a condition of employment. Duk Shim is agreeable and tells him to just say the word. He mentions the protesters, who are the employees from the Robot Museum – so not the townsfolk, but employees of the Robot Museum. Shady. No wonder Duk Bong was annoyed. Duk Shim immediately declares that Nan Gil should report them.

Nan Gil says that she probably already knows this, but he’s not really that close to your Oppa. Duk Shim tells him not to get close with Duk Bong in the future either. Yong Kyu leans in and asks who Duk Shim’s brother is. Heh. Just out of sight. Nan Gil says that her Oppa definitely be against her working part-time here. Duk Shim trips over him saying her name: Duk Shim-shi. She imagines him repeating it several times.

Back to reality: Nan Gil says that she can come once she’s gotten her Oppa’s permission. Yong Kyu asks who Duk Shim’s oppa is. Duk Shim protests that she doesn’t need Oppa’s permission. She's going to be leaving home when she graduates. Yong Kyu doesn’t sound like he likes the idea of her leaving home. Who's her brother? Nan Gil says that she can't work there, then. Duk Shim immediately caves. Nan Gil lets her start training, as long as she gets permission. Yong Kyu protests that he wants to know who her Oppa is!!! Nan Gil and Duk Shim leave the table without a word to him.

Na Ri arrives at Ran Sook’s coffee shop. She asks about Ran Sook, but Ran Sook isn’t in yet. She heads over to talk to Dong Jin. Psycho woman from the plane is sitting with sunglasses on inside – she sure likes to do that – and with a man – boyfriend? Take That’s ‘Back for Good’ is playing:
Got fist of pure emotion
Got a head of shattered dreams
Gotta leave it, gotta leave it all behind now
Whatever I said, whatever I did,
I didn't mean it
I just want you back for good
(Want you back, want you back, want you back for good)
Whenever I'm wrong
Just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood
(Want you back, want you back, want you back for good)
I want you back for good
Dong Jin asks if she wants something to drink. Na Ri doesn’t want anything. Even though he’d been waiting for her, he goes *now* to get a drink so she has to sit there. He brings her something anyway. Way to listen, dude. He asks how many times they missed the chance to get married up until now. Na Ri doesn’t answer. She’s wordlessly annoyed by the question. He lists them: when she graduated and passed the flight attendant exam. When he went to study in America. If not, then when he got promoted. If not then, before Mother passed away. She tells him to stop saying meaningless things.

He says that she’s the one who rejected all of those chances. So, I guess it was okay to cheat, then. He sighs and calls himself cowardly. Yes, he is. He says that it hurts his heart so much that they broke up because of him. Aw, poor baby. So he’s trying to share that burden with her. You see yourself doing it and yet you still do. Na Ri agrees to share the burden, since they’re the only ones who know that those nine years that people talk about actually mean nothing. She tells him that they should stop talking. What is it that he wanted to give back to her?

He grabs a poster canister and says that because he said that he was going to propose to her, Mother purposely came to his company and gave it to him. He puts it on the table. Hearing that it was from Oma, Na Ri quickly opens it. He says Oma did it before she left on her flight and Oma died in the accident.

Flashback, Dong Jin’s work. He hurries over to where Oma is sitting. And looks like a total dork when he’s running. You should have stayed that way, dude. He offers lunch but Oma’s in a hurry. She present him with the canister. She tells him that it’s secret to Na Ri and to make a nice frame for it and hang it up in their newlywed house. Dong Jin likes that idea. He starts to open it and Oma stops him. Don't open it there. Open it at home. It's an original painting that she talked her son into stealing it for her.

Dong Jin wonders what she means by her son and then realizes that she means the one from her volunteer work. So, why, if he knew about Oma’s son, did he immediately assume Nan Gil was a conman?! Annoying. Dong Jin wonders if it’s okay for Oma to do this kind of stuff, having her son take it for her. She agrees. She’s such a bad mom. But, she really wanted to. He’ll know when he sees it.

Na Ri looks at what was in the canister. It’s a drawing she made when she was younger:

Marriage. 5-3 Hong Na Ri Cotton-candy like clouds, I love you

Upset, Na Ri asks why he's just now giving this to her and telling her about it. Exactly. It’s been over a year since Oma’s death. Dong Jin said that he thought they'd really be over if he gave it to her. So he kept pushing it back. Na Ri starts to roll up the paper and declares that it's really over, then. She tells him to leave first. She’s going to visit Ran Sook before she goes.

Dong Jin doesn’t get up. He says that there’s another thing. Na Ri looks at him. He thought that it was more mannerly for him to tell her than for her to hear it from someone else. He’s going to go to Hong Kong with Yeo Joo. He hasn’t told her yet. He’s telling her first. Wow, such good manners! But I can kind of see it, him trying to be the decent guy, but it just comes across as ‘beg me to stay.’ Na Ri’s sigh says she’s thinking the same thing.

Na Ri tells him that it’s great. She was hoping that you two useless people would work out. It’s her revenge. Dong Jin blinks a couple of times and tells her that she’s really harsh. She tells him to leave before she says something even harsher. She’s stopping there because he was at least good to Oma.

And Dong Jin *still* isn’t leaving. Dong Jin asks what she’s going to do about her hometown house? Is Go Nan Gil still claiming it as his house? What business is it of yours, dude?! She tells him not to worry about someone else's house. Dong Jin asks if Go Nan Gil is sick. Na Ri wants to know what he means. He explains that when he met Nan Gil in Seoul because of the matter with Uncle's money, Nan Gil was kind of strange. Na Ri thinks about Nan Gil’s collapse outside of Dada Finance. Na Ri asks what was strange.

Yeo Joo enters the coffee shop. Oh, my gosh, I hate this girl. Psycho from the plane’s male companion almost spits out his coffee when he sees Yeo Joo. Psycho wants to know what is with his facial expression? Why? Does Yeo Joo still make his heart pound? Dong Jin is surprised to see Yeo Joo and asks if Na Ri called her. Why would she be playing matchmaker? This man! Yeo Joo sits and says that she saw his message on Sunbae Na Ri's handphone.

Na Ri’s not even paying attention to Yeo Joo’s arrival. She repeats that she asked him what was strange about Nan Gil! Na Ri’s face looks worried. Yeo Joo reports to Na Ri that this man said that he'd join a marriage matchmaking site. Dong Jin looks at her, surprised at this news. His condition was a woman with a good family. He's just a loser looking for a rich woman. Dong Jin says that he didn't even know about that, so how does Yeo Joo know? Yeo Joo calls him a mama's boy. Na Ri practically yells that she asked where was he hurting!

Psycho has heard Na Ri’s raised voice. She looks at Yeo Joo over the rims of her sunglasses and mutters that Yeo Joo’s still living like that. She stands up. Her beau does, too. Psycho declares that she can't hold back when she sees injustice. Beau tries to distract her with shopping, but she’s on a mission.

Dong Jin says that Nan Gil almost fainted on the road. He was really pale, too. Na Ri asks if Nan Gil went to the hospital. Dong Jin says that Nan Gil took a taxi and left right away. Na Ri jumps to her feet and yells at Dong Jin that he should have told her!!! Dong Jin asks why she’s getting so worked up because of that guy. Psycho places her hands on Na Ri’s shoulders and pushes her back into her seat, declaring that you lose if you get upset. (Beau is cringing as he walks up behind her.)

Psycho, turning to Yeo Joo, declares that Do Yeo Joo is making another person cry again. Is Yeo Joo still living her life with love triangles? Yeo Joo asks who she is. Psycho declares that Yeo Joo suffered humiliation from her coming and going. Yeo Joo doesn't remember? Yeo Joo realizes that it’s her psycho passenger. Na Ri tries calling Nan Gil, with no luck.

Psycho declares that failure is the mother of success, right? Or Yeo Joo’s failed to learn the lesson from her failure. Yeo Joo looks uncomfortably at Dong Jin. Psycho leans over and asks if Na Ri isn’t up to this kind of a situation. Na Ri’s probably not in her right mind right now. She knows that feeling.

Beau tries to get Psycho to leave. Psycho turns on Beau. They couldn't live without each other before, but now they don't even say hello. Yeo Joo gives another uncomfortable look at Dong Jin. I don’t know why they keep trying to make Yeo Joo sympathetic. She’s not. You reap what you sow. Psycho says that she heard Yeo Joo didn't give her Oppa his car back yet. Hurry up and give it back. Beau yells at Psycho to stop it and apologizes to Yeo Joo. Psycho wants to know why he’s sorry. Why is he sorry when he gave everything away?

Na Ri tries calling Ran Sook, who has just entered the shop. Ran Sook is surprised to see Dong Jin. She gets Na Ri’s attention. Seeing Ran Sook, she asks for Ran Sook’s car keys. She takes them out of Ran Sook’s hand and hurries out of the shop.

Beau is yelling at Psycho for her public displays. Dong Jin stood up when Na Ri left and Yeo Joo stood up because he did. Psycho turns to Yeo Joo and says that it’s all her fault. She goes to slap Yeo Joo but Dong Jin stops her arm. Yeo Joo’s surprised by that. Dong Jin tells Psycho that these days, people like to record things like this and post it on the internet. Does Psycho wish to be an amusement? Ran Sook asks Dong Jin if Na Ri is okay to drive. Dong Jin sighs and hurries outside to chase after Na Ri.

With Dong Jin gone, Yeo Joo says through gritted teeth that that punk's (Beau’s) car... He paid only the deposit of that car. She couldn't go with a payment plan over 60 months so she canceled it. Beau smiles awkwardly at Psycho. For people with money, they are so cheap. Eying Psycho she says that they’re also dressed in designer clothing. That time! They were in the plane so she kept her cool despite feeling wronged. Does Psycho really want to go? I'm wearing all knock-offs so it doesn't matter to her if they rip or get broken. Psycho puts back on her sunglasses, take Beau by the arm and leaves, asking him about the 60-month installment plan.

Dong Jin and Ran Sook don’t catch Na Ri. Dong Jin tells Ran Sook that Na Ri is going back to her hometown and then that Na Ri isn’t in good condition. He asks Ran Sook to stop Na Ri from meeting Go Nan Gil. Ran Sook starts to walk away, but Yeo Joo comes outside. She turns around and addresses Dong Jin. She tells him that he might think Na Ri is strong, but she was unbelievably stressed so that she couldn’t see. Does he think that the people who cry out are the only ones who hurt?! That's like telling someone to feel sorry forever! Ran Sook walks off.

Yeo Joo sees Dong Jin starting to feel sorry for himself. She walks over to him and tells him not to feel sorry. Na Ri has another man. No response from Dong Jin. She never had any feelings of holding onto Dong Jin. He looks at her, sighs and starts to walk away. Yeo Joo asks if he was planning on leaving without a word. Why am I recapping this?

Dong Jin still doesn’t tell Yeo Joo that he’s planning on asking her to go with him. He yells at her about showing him her worst side. She points it right back. He says that he’s not much different from the other guys she’s met. He tells her that they should live well separately. Dang! Did he just dump her?! He walks away and Yeo Joo tries not to cry.

Yeo Joo starts walking and doesn’t get very far before she starts crying. She gets a call that her father is in the hospital again. She sinks to the ground and weeps. And I am wondering why they are trying to make Yeo Joo sympathetic at all. Dong Jin drives by – in slow motion - k-drama trope – and doesn’t see her.

At Hong Dumplings, Duk Shim is ‘folding boxes.’ Really she’s trying to ogle Nan Gil. Yong Kyu is sitting across from her, annoyed. His face is killing me. Yong Kyu mutters to himself, wondering how Nan Gil can hire her on the spot. Nan Gil walks by with 2 bags of trash. Duk Shim fangirls to herself. Yong Kyu tosses the box he has in the air in frustration, sighs and sags into his seat.

Na Ri arrives. For some reason she’s exhausted by the drive from Seoul. Which is nothing. I’ve driven 24 hours in one stretch before. Nan Gil sees her, drops the trash and rushes over to the car. He quickly opens the door and asks how she drove there by herself. She declares that there’s something she needs to tell him. She stumbles out of the car, clutching the canister. He keeps her from falling and yells at her from driving in the state she’s in. What would she have done if she got into an accident? What would she do if someone else got hurt with her?!

Na Ri cries back that she’s alive. If someone heard them, they would think they were having a lover quarrel. More quietly she points out that they’re not supposed to get caught, right? He lets go of her arms. She shuts the door and walks to the house. He sighs and follows her, picking up the trash. Duk Shim has come outside and mutters that she doesn't like Na Ri from head to toe. He's her step father. Can't Na Ri figure what that means?

Duk Bong is at his desk, looking through Chairman’s resort plans. He seems to be really pushing for it. He tells Soon Rye that if this gets out, then a couple of people from his family will get arrested. Right? He groans. Should he go back to America? He gets a text from Duk Shim that Na Ri is there. He broaches the subject of Oma with Soon Rye, calling Oma the woman Soon Rye hates. She acted like she didn't know how to deal with money or with land. So when did she manage to buy all the land near the restaurant?

Soon Rye wants to know if he’s asking her to find out. He replies that he’s not asking her to find out. He’s asking her to tell him everything she knows. And isn't it about time to stop keeping secrets, Team Leader Kwon? Soon Rye says that she will find out and walks away. He calls after her asking how long she’s going to keep secrets. No response. He says that there’s no one that listens to him! Duk Shim texts that she’s decided to work part time at the Dumpling Shop! He mutters about it being annoying.

Inside the house, Na Ri is drinking straight from the water pitcher again. At least she doesn’t put her mouth on it. Nan Gil tells her that she should have called... What did she want to say to make  her drive all the way here? She has a flight early in the morning. She replies that he’s exactly right. She doesn't know how she drove there. She must have gone crazy for Go Nan Gil. I’d go crazy for him, too. He tells her that it’s all right since she's fine and without accident, but going crazy over him–

Na Ri says that she heard that he collapsed in front of Dong Jin before. Nan Gil acts like Dong Jin is exaggerating. Like it’s no big deal, nothing to worry about. Na Ri says that Nan Gil’s also collapsed in front of her. Nan Gil says that Na Ri’s over exaggerating! Na Ri says that she risked her life and drove there to hear his answer, so he shouldn’t take her lightly. This is the second time with the same symptoms. Don't beat around the bush and tell her straight up.

Nan Gil steps closer to her and moves her hair aside to look at her forehead. He notes that she’s sweating. She really ran over as if her life depended on it. She pushes his hand away, telling him to not try to avoid– He pulls her into a big hug. She protests but he doesn’t let go. He tells her that she wouldn’t be like Hong Na Ri if his hugging her made her give up. He promises to do well. They should just be like this for a moment. He hugs her and gives her the comforting pats.

Na Ri asks if it’s serious. He lets go and takes her face in his hands. He gently says that it isn’t. He takes her hand and leads her over to the table. They sit. He tells her about baseball player Steve Blass.

Never heard of him:

Wikipedia entry on Steve Blass
Society of American Baseball Research entry on Steve Blass
Mockingbird website: Pitcher Gone to Pasture: The Incurable Mystery of Steve Blass
“I had no control over it, nor did I understand it. I would sit in my backyard 2…3…4 o’clock in the morning thinking, ‘My God, what’s happened to me? What is this? Has someone put a curse on me or something?” – Steve Blass
“Steve Blass tried everything to get out of his abyss. He tried pitching from his knees, he tried pitching from second base, he tried pitching every night in the bullpen, he tried taking a week off, seeing if the rest helped him, watched himself on video and compared it videos when he was pitching well. He went a hypnotist and a psychologist. He learned meditation and practiced it. When a friend suggested looser underwear, he laughed with his teammates…and then he tried it. Some of these cures focused him more on the mechanics, some of them tried to take his mind off his mechanics. None of them worked.” – Ira Glass
Mentalfloss.com: Steve Blass' Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Disease - There was not physical explanation. He just stopped being able to pitch. Players after Blass have been afflicted:

He was quite popular back in the day. Then one day, he couldn't throw a strike. It wasn't like his arm was hurt but unluckily and without reason, he couldn't throw one. So they named it ‘Steve Blass Disease.’ Na Ri asks what he’s saying. Nan Gil says that he thinks his illness is ‘Go Nan Gil Disease.’ He smiles slightly and says that he's not hurt anywhere specifically but multiple symptoms have appeared. She asks if it’s like panic disorder? Nan Gil answers that it’s panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety disorder altogether. It may seem very serious but he’s never experienced a symptom there. Na Ri asks if it only happens in Seoul. Nan Gil answers “Probably. So far.”

She asks what he’s supposed to do then. He says that you just endure until you can breathe again. She asks if he goes to hospital regularly. He nods that he does. Does he take medication? He does. Now, his turn. How far did she think while she was driving there? Terminal disease? Incurable? His voice is teasing. Na Ri says that she didn't think about it since she had to concentrate on driving.

Nan Gil tells her that if she wants to run, it’s ok. Na Ri asks if he thinks she’s that kind of a character. Exactly. He says that he’s regretted asking her to come back for the books. He should have hidden his feelings. Should have held back. He feels like he’s dreaming, he’s so happy. But he regrets as much, too. Na Ri asks why. He says that his disease is him. A product of his dark, lonely and stinky past. He regrets it because he doesn't want to reveal it. Aw, I just want to give him a hug.

Na Ri proposes they not touch each other's past. They should pretend they know nothing even if it's revealed. That’s going to be harder done than said. Na Ri says that she’s not all that proud of her past either. Nan Gil replies that he’s being serious. This is her opportunity to run away from him. Na Ri says that it must've been hard for that baseball player. He couldn't run away since everyone was looking at him in the middle of the field. Compared to do that, Go Nan Gil's situation is alright.

Na Ri tells him that he has a place to hide. He asks where that is. She says it’s her. He calmed down last time because she was with him. She’ll make him all better. He mutters that she likes to show off. She asks him if he’ll marry her. The smile that was on Nan Gil’s face falls away and he stares at her. There’s a pause and Na Ri smiles. She should have taken a photo of his expression. He sighs, annoyed. And I roll my eyes. She was serious and chickened out.

Na Ri grabs the canister and says that it’s a poem she wrote in Grade 5. "Marriage" by Hong Na Ra.

Flashback: Nan Gil sneaks into Na Ri’s classroom. He finds her pictures and takes it. Outside, he gives it to Oma. He tells her not to make it obvious. Walk naturally. Oma tells him that he really did well. Nan Gil asks why Oma had him steal it. Oma replies that Na Ri said she would go to school early to rip it up, because the boys are following her around, asking her to marry them. Nan Gil is offended: How immature. Oma agrees: That's right. It's immature. Our Nan Gil is not like that.

Nan Gil says that Na Ri is being immature. Why would she rip that up because of that? Oma agrees. She declares that she loves this poem so much. She shows it to Nan Gil.

CLOUDS LIKE COTTON CANDY, I LOVE YOU.
WILDFLOWERS BLOOMING SHYLY, I LOVE YOU.
SUN RAYS SHINING ON THE LAKE, I LOVE YOU.
AN STRETCHED OUT STRAIGHT UP TREE, I LOVE YOU.
WILL YOU MARRY ME?

Oma declares that she is going to hide this well and give it to the man Na Ri will marry. He tells Oma to make sure to hide it well and give it to him then. Aw, even back then Oma knew he liked her. Oma laughs and says that she’s got it. She will give it to him then. She gives Nan Gil an affectionate nudge on the cheek and he just beams at that news. Aw, it must have hurt to see the life that swallowed Nan Gil and to know how he didn’t feel worthy of her.

In the present, Nan Gil looks at the poem. Na Ri asks if he’s the child who stole her poem with Oma, right? Nan Gil glances at her and looks guilty. Na Ri declares that she is right. She sighs and says that she should have been a poet. She has no poetic inhibition. Nan Gil smiles at that. Na Ri says that she’s giving it to him as a gift since he stole it. Nan Gil’s expression goes a little funny. And we know why.

Stupid Yeo Joo scene. Marriage broker tells her that Dong Jin’s mother cancelled his registration. Congratulations! Yeo Joo supports her parents. Her dad is a bum. Mom wants her to find a man and leave the country.

Nan Gil and Na Ri leave the house, Nan Gil carrying the canister. He tells her that, no matter how you look at it, she’s fallen for him too hard. She stole a friend's car upon hearing of his collapse. She stops walking down the stairs, taking issue with ‘stole.’ He tells her that she put her life on the line with her driving and couldn't care less about her morning flight. And she says she’s gone crazy over him like it's nothing. What's wrong with her?

Na Ri thinks of Yeo Joo, telling her that she’s going after the younger man with abandon. She looks at Nan Gil and he’s giving her a look. She tells him to listen carefully. Ok, she acknowledges,  she stole her friend's car and put her life on the line driving and forgot all about her work. She’s gone crazy over Go Nan Gil. What should she do then? Nan Gil’s surprised she admitted it. He replies (with a mumble) that he said all that to make her come to her senses. So why is she acknowledging it?

Na Ri declares that she is a woman who acknowledges what needs to be acknowledged. Not what Nan Gil wanted to hear. Nan Gil makes a face and tells her that she needs to eat. Does she want to eat some dumplings? The dough turned out really well today. Na Ri protests that Nan Gil has to give her an answer since she’s acknowledged it. What should she do now? She’s starting to whine.

Nan Gil yells back, “Ok then!” He’s gone a little more crazy than she is. In his whole life, there has been only one woman. He’s never even looked at another woman.

♬ You’ll only get older if you keep getting burned up ♬

Na Ri smiles and says that that's the answer she wanted. Good job. She leans over and puts an arm around Nan Gil’s neck. She tells him that he needs to repeat it often. She switches topics: The dough turned out well, should they have some dumplings. She looks at him. He turns and looks at her. Kissing distance.

♬ People say it doesn’t matter ♬

And he almost kisses her, but she gets shy and pulls away.

♬ Because the world is a liar ♬

Nan Gil now feels awkward, too.

♬ When you believe in me as much as you believe in yourself ♬

They look at each other.

♬ Love will be given and received ♬

She tells him not to be sick. He replies that he doesn’t feel sick. She tells him not to try to endure it either. He gives her a small smile and tells her ‘okay.’

They walk toward Hong Dumplings. She sees the protest sign and asks when that started. Recently. All of a sudden. Na Ri says that they should not go in together. She tells him to go in first. Nan Gil replies that they saw her hugging him in broad day light after a drink. He tells her to just be as she is. With a mischievous grin, she asks if they should go in arm in arm, then. Nan Gil hurries inside with Na Ri smiling after him.

When Nan Gil enters, Duk Shim gives him a deep bow of welcome. He seems to have forgotten she was there, because he goes “Oh. Right.” He quickly heads into the kitchen. Duk Shim smiles to herself because he talked to her. Na Ri enters. Duk Shim is not happy to see her. Na Ri sits and Duk Shim begrudgingly gets her some water.

Na Ri asks to speak to Duk Shim for a moment. Duk Shim agrees. Na Ri asks if Duk Shim borrowed her clothes from Soon Rye. Duk Shim snaps at Na Ri, asking why she’s asking, if she already knows the answer. Duk Shim’s attitude annoys Na Ri and so she asks if Duk Shim’s writing her apology. That gets Duk Shim to quit and change her tune.

Nan Gil comes out with a tray of dumplings. And the danmuji, pickled radishes! I love those so much! Here's info:

MaRecipes.com article on Danmuji (Korean Yellow Pickled Radish)
Maangchi.com's article on Yellow Pickles Radish: Danmuji
And, of course, the tray has kimchi. No Korean meal is complete without the kimchi.

He tells her to eat them slowly. Like Duk Shim isn’t even there. Na Ri smiles and Duk Shim makes a face. Na Ri starts eating. She asks if Duk Bong knows Duk Shim’s working there. She remembers Duk Bong’s request for time. She asks when the museum closes. Duk Shim says it’s open late and adds that Duk Bong will be very glad to see her. She calls back that last part of her sentence so Nan Gil might catch it. Not that it will do much.

Na Ri gets up to leave and Nan Gil comes out and sits her back down, asking where she’s going in the middle of eating. She says that she was going to go to the museum for a little while. Appa voice tells her to sit there and finish everything slowly and then go. It cracks me up how they can act like little kids with each other. Na Ri obeys and Duk Shim chugs Na Ri’s water in frustration.

Na Ri finishes and heads over to the museum. She crosses paths with Soon Rye and gets Soon Rye’s attention. She apologizes for abruptly talking to her last time. Soon Rye sighs an “It's alright.” Na Ri says that she used to think Soon Rye’s clothes were beautiful even when she was little. They still look great. Soon Rye turns around and, her voice hard, asks if Na Ri thinks they’re meant to be beautiful.

Soon Rye turns to walk away again, but Na Ri stops her. Na Ri says that there must be a reason why Soon Rye’s dressed in the same style for all this time. Na Ri asks for the reason. Soon Rye asks why she would tell Na Ri. Na Ri says that Soon Rye’s made her curious since she said that she wasn’t wearing them to look good. Soon Rye gives her a little smile – as if she was thinking ‘just like her mother’ – and asks “If I answer, will Na Ri sell?” Na Ri asks why she should. Almost as an accusation, Soon Rye declares: Like mother, like daughter. She tells Na Ri to leave Go Nan Gil alone so he can live freely! She quickly walks away. Na Ri isn’t sure what to make of that.

Duk Bong finds Na Ri and they head back to his office. Na Ri asks what Soon Rye did before working there. Duk Bong says that he wouldn’t know, unless he looks into her employee records. He offers to, but she tells him not to. He asks why she’s so interested in Team Leader Kwon who hates her mother so much? Na Ri says that Soon Rye wants her to sell her land. Duk Bong chuckles and says that Soon Rye works hard as always. I don’t think that’s the reason, though.

Na Ri asks what Duk Bong wanted to talk to her about. He tells her that Duk Shim plans on trying to become closer to Na Ri so that she can give Duk Bong all the details. Na Ri chuckles at Duk Shim’s gall and Duk Bong declares that it's kind of crass, right? He adds that he’s only conveying what Duk Shim stated. Na Ri says that she’s not someone with a lot to expose. Duk Bong asks if Na Ri will act as a double-agent for him. Pretend to get close to Duk Shim and expose Duk Shim’s secrets to him. What happened in Seoul, why she is so closed off and has no friends.

Na Ri smiles and says that he’s a good oppa. He smiles slightly and then says that Duk Shim’s just annoying. He wants to kick her out. Duk Bong gets a phone call. It’s unsettling. He tells Na Ri that something came up. She understands and leaves. Duk Bong starts trying to call Duk Shim. He goes into her room – without knocking – and is annoyed that she’s not there. He yells at her to answer the phone, please!

Duk Shim is ‘working,’ standing by the glass where Nan Gil is kneading his dough. He’s just working. I think he thinks it’s a little odd, but isn’t going to say anything. Duk Shim is fangirling. Nan Gil gets a text. It’s from Na Ri ordering him to come to the green house! He smiles and obeys.

He walks up to her and asks if she met with her friends? She observes that he told her to do whatever but it looks like he was worried. He can’t help but smile because she’s right. They walk down the road. It’s obvious that they want to hold hands, but they don’t. Nan Gil finally clenches his hand into a fist to stop himself. Heh.

Duk Bong enters Hong Dumplings and Duk Shim tries to run. He does a wrist grab and stops her. He asks why she didn't answer her phone. She yells that she’s in the middle of working! He tells her to come on, they’re going to Seoul. She asks for negotiation. For working here, I will retake the college exam. He tells her to quit talking rubbish and come out! Yong Kyu approaches, sputtering for them to wait. The robot was her oppa? Duk Shim whines that she doesn't want to go to Seoul! As soon as she graduates, she’ll move out! Duk Bong cuts her off, yelling that she has to go to the hospital! So hurry come out. Her mother has been hospitalized.

Driving in the car, Duk Shim bawls loudly. Wordlessly, Duk Bong pulls out some tissues and offers them to her. He’s such a good brother. He tells her to drink some water and calm down. Duk Shim worries about Mom’s concussion. What if Mom doesn't recognize her? What if Mom doesn't ever wake up? Duk Bong sighs.

They enter the hospital, the same hospital where Yeo Joo is. She sees them and wonders who the girl is.

Nan Gil and Na Ri are looking at her lettuce. She declares that their babies are no longer babies. Looks like they have to make some lettuce wraps to eat. And lettuce wraps are so good. Korean barbeque! Nan Gil says that he worked hard to let them hear his footsteps and they're just ending up as lettuce wraps. Na Ri says she’s jealous of them. Everyday, they got to hear his footsteps and see his face.

Na Ri says that there’s a particular scent in the green house, the intense scent of wet plants. When she wants to see Go Nan Gil, she remembers the scent here. Even when she goes to a restaurant and sees lettuce, she thinks of him. When she sees the pickles in seaweed rolls, she thinks of him. At those times, she wants to run to him, but she holds back. Even if she wants to call him, she holds back. Even when she wants to text, she holds back. Even when she wants to see him, she holds back. Nan Gil replies that it wasn't just him holding back. It’s so sweet! I’m glad that she’s so forthright, because without her, he would never say anything at all. So glad that she doesn’t play the games!

Na Ri asks if they should take care of things? He tells her it’s fine. Do as she wants, he’s fine with it. Liar. She tells him to take care of things for her. The family registry. Remove that he’s her parent so they can really start their relationship. He tells her ‘no.’ She smiles and says that she knew he was going to say that.

Nan Gil squirms a little. He says that he needs some time. He asks her to wait for him until he takes care of things. She wants to know how he can not even think about it and just say, "I can't" so quickly? Oh, he’s thought about it. He repeats his request: Wait for him. Na Ri wipes off her hands and declares that she has a long drive. It better to leave before it gets dark. They should go.

♬ You ♬

Nan Gil looks at her, waiting for her answer.

♬ and I ♬

She reminds him: What is it that you need like the steps of a farmer for the plants? He answers: Even if you are busy, you have to texts, send pictures and use heart emojis. He says that he’s going to call, even if he’s busy. So, she should come over anytime she wants to see him. And he will come over if she calls him. She smiles at him and says that she’ll be waiting, starting from now.

♬ It’s our everything, my love ♬

And then Nan Gil looks ahead of them. Wan Shik and a car is standing there. They drop the hands. Director climbs out of the car. Nan Gil becomes visibly nervous. He tells Na Ri to go on ahead first. She asks who Director is. Quietly he says please and asks her to do him this favor. Na Ri going and Nan Gil tries not to hyper-ventilate.

Director watches Na Ri walk by him and then looks at Nan Gil. His face is practically begging Director not to hurt her. Director approaches Nan Gil. Na Ri stops to watch their conversation.

Director stops about 5 feet from Nan Gil. He says that he finally understands why the area around this land has been so noisy lately... it's beautiful. Nan Gil replies that he didn't think Director would come there himself. Director – still looking out at the lake – says that when you get old, even the little things make you nervous. What will he do if what is his is taken away? What does he do about a disobedient child? Then, if he gets sick, he’ll be the only lonely one. Just those words make me loathe him all the more.

There’s a pause. Director looks at Nan Gil and says that they should figure this out quickly. Since he sees that they are going around holding hands, it looks like they like each other. Nan Gil replies that he can take care of the principle and the legal interest. Of course, Director’s trying to collect illegal interest. Director responds that Nan Gil acts like he hasn’t worked on his side. The interest that has piled up over the years cannot even be blocked by the law.

Nan Gil says they should talk at the office. Director says that he’s not sure what card Nan Gil is holding, but he shouldn't be there. Do he know what he did to Hong Na Ri? Nan Gil walks up to him and, breathing deeply – man, this guy is the cause of his episodes, you can just tell by Nan Gil’s body language – asks what Director is saying he did to Hong Na Ri?

Director asks if Nan Gil remembers the Ul Ji Ro print shop incident. Nan Gil’s jaw clenches and he swallows – he does. Director declares that the person who was running away and fell from the second floor… Nan Gil clenches his fist. You can tell that he knows what Director is going to say even before it’s said.

Flashback. Man picks up a board. They’re on the roof. Nan Gil’s head is bloody. Man swings at Nan Gil, yelling at him not to get any closer. A bunch of Director’s men appear on the roof, also holding boards. Man climbs over the ledge and jumps before Nan Gil can stop him. Nan Gil looks at Man lying on the ground, blood all over the ground. Nan Gil starts breathing heavily and sweating.

Back to now. Director asks if Nan Gil knows who that person is? Like he’s enjoying it. He announces that Man was Hong Na Ri's father, Hong Sung Kyu. And did I call it, or what?! Nan Gil looks like he’s going to pass out and wants to die. Director says that Nan Gil can't ever know the whereabouts of Hong Na Ri's father. So does that mean Abeoji isn’t dead? Or is he dead?

Nan Gil looks over at Na Ri. We hear her poem:

Cloud like cotton candy, I love you.

Na Ri wonders what’s going on.

Wildflowers blooming shyly, I love you.

Nan Gil just stares at her.

Sun rays shining on the lake, I love you.

He starts to sway a little.

A tree standing straight up, I love you.

Will you marry me?

A little more swaying and the episode ends.

Thoughts

Oh! I am so mad! Did I call that or what? But here’s what I’m wondering. Did Abeoji really die? Or, because of Nan Gil’s head wound, he only thought Abeoji was hurt worse than he really was? I wouldn’t put it past Director to have Abeoji stashed somewhere. I mean, why, if Abeoji really died, did he only try to collect on the ‘loan’ just then? Did he, perhaps, use this accident to create the loan papers? We know Nan Gil went to jail, but I wouldn’t have been for Abeoji’s murder, because the news that the guy was Abeoji wouldn’t have been news. I mean, you don’t go through a trial without knowing who you’re accused of hurting.

The more I think about it, I don’t think the Director’s telling the truth, because it wouldn’t have been such a big shock to Nan Gil that it was her Abeoji if the guy was who Director is saying he was. He would have known Abeoji’s name. He would have recognized Abeoji from when they were young.

I really hope that Na Ri keeps her head when she discovers this ‘news’ and figures out that it’s crap. She’ll probably ask Duk Bong to help her – poor guy, but I think he likes Nan Gil in spite of himself and his protests. They just need to get drunk together. Heh.

What a bomb shell! And a whole week to see if Nan Gil collapses right there in the road from it. How can Wan Shik just sit by and let Director do this? We need to save both of them!

I have to say that I love Na Ri. I love that she isn’t one to play games. Ever. She calls things like she sees them and she’s not too scared to be honest. And it makes Nan Gil be honest, too. Which he so needs. He needs his Na Ri to run to when he has his episodes. But Director is determined to crush Nan Gil instead. Truly evil.

It’s enough for me to wish Director has a painful heart attack and dies. But I’d rather see him get his comeuppance. The man is truly evil. And I mean that literally. I read this book: 'People of the Lie: The Hope for Healing Human Evil' by M. Scott Peck, MD. In his first book ('The Road Less Traveled'), he defines love as "the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth." In this book he talks about what evil is: evil kills, not just the physical body, but also the spirit - "the use of power to destroy the spiritual growth of others for the purpose of defending and preserving the integrity of [their] own sick selves" - and that definitely applies to the Director's relationship with his 'boys.' And evil always blames someone else: "A predominant characteristic, however, of the behavior of those I call evil is scapegoating. Because in their hearts they consider themselves above reproach, they must lash out at anyone who does reproach them. They sacrifice others to preserve their self-image of perfection." Director - why did you make me throw that ashtray? His systematic effort to destroy Nan Gil's spirit, when he could just let Nan Gil go.

I have to say that I am tired of Yeo Joo’s story. She's not evil. She's just selfish. I could care less that she has terrible parents. I could care less that Dong Jin dumped her. I’d just like for her to disappear so we wouldn’t have to see her anymore. Of course, we won't because she's the second lead. Just make her evil and don't try to redeem her. I really could care that she had a horrible upbringing, which is why she’s trying to score a rich Oppa now. I could care less. Seeing her cry does not make me cry at all. It makes me roll my eyes.

This episode made me like Duk Bong so much more, too. He just needs to find a new girl. NOT YEO JOO. Because he’s a really sweet brother, underneath all his ‘indifference.’

Ah! I’m dreading next episode. Why does this show do this?!!! Have such great romantic moments and then bam! Melo shocker!!!
