Divorce Lawyer in Love Episode 8 Recap

Episode starts with romantic piano music playing as Cheok Hee puts the Red Tie of Courage on Jung Woo. He looks down at her as she works. She sees him. Cheok Hee steps back and announces that it’s all done. Jung Woo takes a deep breath and tells her that she’s right. With the red tie on, his logic has disappeared and only bravery remains. She smiles at that aknowledgement. Jung Woo tells her not to interrupt him and to listen carefully. What he said at the end in the subway station, the one he likes more than Nan Joong Il Gi, what he likes more than egg rolls – he takes a step forward – and the thing that isn't absent from his mind these days… Go Cheok Hee.

She doesn’t get it. He says her name again. Go Cheok Hee. His voice when he says it, makes me want to squee! So impassioned, so excited. I love Jung Woo. He starts to tell her but they’re interrupted by Soo Ah. She notices that he’s not wearing her tie. It stings. She crumples up the business card in her hand. He’s surprised to see her and asks why she’s there. She lies and says that she was there an errand for CEO Bong. Jung Woo fidgets a little as he tries to cover up Soo Ah’s tie with his hand. Soo Ah says that she’s tired and he brought his car right? She proceeds to walk off with him – they sure do get pulled apart from each other a lot on this show – before Cheok Hee can respond to what Jung Woo just said. Send him a text, Cheok Hee. He’s not taken! Send him a text where you say that you like him, too!!! Do it!

♬ That one day ♬

Instead of just watching him go, Cheok Hee calls after them. She asks, “I what?"

♬ The day when you came to me ♬

Jung Woo quickly extricates himself from Soo Ah’s arm to go back to Cheok Hee.

♬ Your warmth ♬

He tells her that they should go eat together tomorrow. Just the two of them.

♬ The day when it penetrated deep into my heart ♬

Cheok Hee starts to smile as she confirms: The two of us? Jung Woo smiles as he nods. Aw, so cute! Cheok Hee nods her agreement.

Soo Ah clenches that business card even more tightly. Although, wouldn’t Cheok Hee find out what happened to Jung Woo as they started dating? Wouldn’t he share that, so if it was her, she would tell him? I don’t think it was her but one of her clients. But still. You tell him now and he’ll be grateful forever. You don’t tell him and he’ll find out anyway.

♬ The naive promises of believing in forever ♬

Jung Woo returns to Soo Ah and without a word, they start for his car. I almost said, ‘Couldn’t you give Cheok Hee a ride?’ but then I remembered that you’re outside her apartment building.

♬ I will erase all of them now ♬
♬ The only thing that doesn't change is change itself ♬

Cheok Hee enters her apartment, asking herself what he meant by ‘the two of us.’ For someone so smart, she is being really THICK.

♬ I will believe in those words ♬

It finally sinks in and Cheok Hee screams with delight. She starts dancing around, giggling like a school girl. And I am really happy for her. Min Kyu, don’t you screw it up!

Riding home, Soo Ah looks at the crumpled Cheok Hee business card. Jung Woo is happily driving, because he has a date with Cheok Hee tomorrow. He glances over at Soo Ah, notices she has something in her hands and asks what it is. She jumps a little and says that it’s nothing at all. She tells him that she’s hot and it’s okay to open the window a little. I guess that means all the way, since Jung Woo rolls the window all the way down. Soo Ah looks over and notes the red tie again. Dramatic music plays as she lets the business card blow away.

Switch to a hospital room with flying papers. Wife screams that she WON'T DO IT!!! (get a divorce)

[Episode Eight: Any Objections?]

Okay, I ended up watching the last 2 minutes of this episode, so the title of this episode made me smile. I’m not sharing why, you’ll find out eventually, but it made me smile.

Next morning, Jung Woo is whistling as he gets ready for work. He decides to wear his brand new red tie. He smiles as he makes sure it goes with his outfit – which, of course, it does. It’s red.

♬ I'm confused. I keep thinking about you ♬

Cheok Hee has gone to a bookstore. I love bookstores.

♬ Even your way of talking and expressions ♬
♬ We are like Tom and Jerry. Anything will make you pouty. ♬
♬ Whenever we meet, we always fight ♬
♬ The sound of my heart beating ♬

She smiles as she finds what she’s looking for: ‘Nan Joong Il Gi.’ Aw, one of Jung Woo’s favorite things. That is too sweet! She hugs the book before going to buy it.

Jung Woo is practically skipping as he walks to work. He calls in his reservation for 7 pm.

♬ Look only at me ♬
♬ I'm excited, darling. I love you. ♬

Cheok Hee is waiting for the bus, reading ‘Nan Joong Il Gi.’ Aw, almost as good, although I’m shaking my head. She wants to quote it like she’s read it a 1,000 times. Dork. “In the art of war, you'll live no matter what if you are willing to die.” That’s pretty deep. Cheok Hee yawns. Then she smiles as she thinks about Jung Woo.

Jung Woo reaches work, all smiles. Jung Sook compliments him on his tie. He chuckles and asks her to recommend a good wine. Something that a women would really enjoy drinking. She likes the idea of him having a date. She recommends: La Chablisienne, Chablis Premier, Gris Percheron. Jung Woo repeats it. Min Kyu enters and says the same three wines, asking Jung Sook to order him a few bottles. He looks at Jung Woo as he adds that it's the wine that his woman likes. I have to chuckle because he doesn’t know about the date. Jung Woo stops smiling. Because he’s scamming on his boss’s ‘woman.’ Jung Sook asks herself why the men are looking for wine all of a sudden.

Cheok Hee enters, still trying to memorize that sentence. She hides the book when she sees Jung Woo, who turns around to smile his greeting. She notices his tie. Not because he’s calling attention to it by adjusting it or anything. She’s happy that he wore it. He leans over to her and lowly asks to make sure that she hasn’t forgotten about dinner right? She hasn’t. Jung Woo smiles. Cheok Hee notices that Min Kyu is in and goes to greet him. Jung Woo wants to watch but Jung Sook distracts him with an actual case. She called after seeing the pregnant smile. Jung Woo looks back over at Cheok Hee a Min Kyu. Jung Sook mutters. I think she’s jealous. Do they have to tint the windows or something? She whispers at Jung Woo that they’re probably going to hear the Wedding March soon. Jung Woo frowns. He doesn’t like that idea.

Inside, Cheok Hee is telling Min Kyu about the latest development with Jung Woo. And I groan. Not the brightest bulb when it comes to her own love life. This isn’t going to make things uncomfortable for Jung Woo at all… She says that Jung Woo did something similar to a confession. Min Kyu is annoyed – of course – but he hides it, instead asking what Jung Woo said like he’s just interested. Cheok Hee says that Jung Woo said he likes her better than Nan Joong Il Gi and more more more than egg rolls. Min Kyu scoffs and says that it’s not a confession because he says he likes her more than a cheap egg roll!

Cheok Hee protests that it *is* real. Jung Woo’s not even dating Soo Ah! Min Kyu clears his throat. Because he’s been lying about that one. Cheok Hee then tells him that they’re going to dinner together that evening. Min Kyu is concerned. Cheok Hee doesn’t notice. She says that if this is the case, then it's really 100% true. Right? Min Kyu doesn’t answer. Cheok Hee feels obligated to tell Jung Woo that they’re fake. Min Kyu cringes again at the use of ‘fake.’ Cheok Hee wants to end it, not only because of that, but also because Min Kyu’s fiancée is coming soon and Cheok Hee doesn’t want her to get the wrong idea, either.

Min Kyu tells her to go ahead and tell him. Just don't be too hasty about it. Don't say it over "liking you better than rolled egg" or this kind of thing. Once his lips say the words, 'I like you,' then she can tell him. Cheok Hee agrees.

Jung Woo with the woman in the hospital. Her husband is asking for a divorce. Ten years ago, while giving birth to their daughter, the bleeding wouldn't stop so she had a hysterectomy, and this is what happened. Wife’s mother mutters that Husband is an inconsiderate bastard. Asking a sick woman for a divorce. Wife says that she doesn’t blame him. She asks her mother what she would do if Husband was her son (rather than her), would she ask Wife to spend the rest of her life nursing him? Mom tells her that she’s too kind for her own good. She tells Jung Woo that even though that rotten bastard didn't come here, even if he was meeting a woman, Wife doesn't say a word. Not one word.

Jung Woo asks Wife (Na Sun Hee) is she wants the divorce. She says that if she was only thinking about her husband then she would, but she doesn’t want to, because of her daughter. Why do parents do that? You’re miserable, so let’s raise our kids in a miserable home! Jung Woo tells Sun Hee that it’s highly likely that Husband will get custody of their daughter. Sun Hee understands; who would give a child to a mother like this? That’s why she wants Jung Woo to stop the divorce from happening. Jung Woo says that he’ll try. He looks at the lawyer for the husband: Bong In Jae. Aw crap. Min Kyu’s dad.

Jung Woo and Mom go by the house. Husband won’t let them in. How do you know if they’re even home, that you’re pounding on the door and yelling to be let in? Husband arrives with his girlfriend. Daughter calls Girlfriend, ‘Mom.’ That sets Mom off. How can he let someone be called ‘Mom’ when her real mother is lying there in that condition! Jung Woo tries to get Mom to calm down, but Mom goes after Girlfriend’s hair. Husband tells Mom that she’s so ignorant! Daughter doesn’t even know her own grandmother. What a jerk. Husband has Girlfriend to take Daughter inside.

When Daughter is gone, Mom sinks to the ground, moaning. AIGOO! How little did he let them see her that she doesn't even recognize her own grandmother's face now! Jung Woo takes that moment to introduce himself. He says that he’s there about the parental custody matter. The child's mother wants to raise the child. Husband wants Jung Woo to think about it rationally. For Daughter, what’s better? A bedridden mother or a healthy one? Bedridden. That girl will hate you when she’s older if you keep going on this path, dude. Jung Woo answers that Sun Hee became like that giving birth to his child. He can’t deprive the child be of her mother like this. Husband answers that it should be settled using the law, don't Jung Woo think so? He goes in the apartment.

Mom yells after him that that boy is rotten, and that woman is even worse! Rather than the robber who steals property, rather than the robber who steals money, the worst thing is the robber who steals people! She begs him to stop it. He says that he will try his best.

Jung Woo arrives at the restaurant where Cheok Hee is cheerfully waiting. She waves when she sees him. But he’s not smiling. Uh oh. He thinks about Cheok Hee dating Min Kyu. He sits and doesn’t say anything.

It’s a quiet dinner. Cheok Hee finally decides to ask. Are they going to finish eating and leave? Jung Woo replies that it looks like it. Didn’t Jung Woo have something to say to her? Isn't it something like that? Jung Woo doesn’t say anything. Like he’s out with a colleague, completely passionless. Cheok Hee sighs and asks why he asked her to have dinner. Jung Woo answers that it was just because. And that’s why you confirmed this morning, because it was a ‘just because’ dinner? Cheok Hee doesn’t believe it. No. When they’re eating together, there must be something special–

Jung Woo interrupts to ask if there has to be a reason to eat. Cheok Hee protests that yesterday, he said he liked her more than Nan Joong Il Gi, more than egg rolls. Like it means nothing, Jung Woo agrees that he likes her more than egg roll. Cheok Hee smiles and says that the way she thought about it, there would be some deeper meaning to it. Jung Woo doesn’t respond to that. He simply says that if she’s finished eating, why don't they leave? He wipes is mouth, gets up and *leaves.* What is he doing?! Cheok Hee is as confused as I am.

Jung Woo and Cheok Hee are waiting to cross the street. Jung Woo is purposely looking the opposite direction of where Cheok Hee is standing. He takes his arm and starts swinging it, smiling and singing his name. She stops when he looks at his arm, bothered. Cheok Hee frowns. Then she decides to persist. Cheok Hee steps in front of him and asks if he really have nothing to say? Jung Woo sighs and avoids looking at her. He takes a step backward. She steps forward, so that she’s the same distance from him again. She announces that she’s leaving then. Jung Woo squirms a little, but says nothing. He sighs and takes a step backward. Cheok Hee steps forward and announces that she’s really going. Jung Woo is really struggling. What is he thinking? He steps back again. This time Cheok Hee feels hurt. She announces that she’s leaving and turns to go.

Jung Woo reacts almost subconsciously and grabs her wrist to stop her. Cheok Hee smiles. She turns around, telling him that he caught it! (Her wrist). Jung Woo is really struggling now. She laughs and says that she knew this would happen. He does have something to say right? Jung Woo squirms, sighs and spits out that the light is red. He hasn’t let go of her wrist though. She looks at it is red. She sighs, sad, disappointed. Finally, Jung Woo lets go of her wrist and tells her that she can leave now. Cheok Hee looks at her wrist sadly and finally goes, disappointed. Jung Woo lets the façade down and looks at his own hand with regret.

Min Kyu is outside the apartment, waiting for Cheok Hee, but he acts like he just happened to be outside for a smoke. Sunbae you don't smoke. I do. From today onwards. Min Kyu asks how dinner was. Almost dreading the answer. Cheok Hee declares that Jung Woo a seriously weird guy. Does he really have no one to eat with? They just ate. Just because. Min Kyu, obviously relieved, tells her that he told her so. He suggests that they go inside. Cheok Hee mentions the smoke and Min Kyu replies that he quit smoking.

Soo Ah is at work. She looks at her motto again and thinks about her blue tie and how quick Jung Woo was to leave her and ask Cheok Hee out to dinner. Hye Rin enters to say good night and Soo Ah asks Hye Rin to throw the motto away. Hye Rin wants to know why and Soo Ah replies that Convictions crumble down easily. Yesterday as she threw a business card away, she threw away her convictions too. From now on, she’s going to try to grab the things that she’s greedy for. Why do people do that? Compromise themselves for some person?

Later, Soo Ah tells Jung Woo that she found Mystery Woman, but she’ll only tell him if he keeps his promise to do anything she would ask of him. Immediately he promises to keep his promise. She tells him to resign from Min Kyu’s office. She says that it’s so she can start her own firm and she wants him to join it. Uncomfortable, Jung Woo agrees. He says that it might be better instead to leave. There's someone at the office that he has to keep his distance from. She can’t believe that he didn’t argue. He adds that he just accepted a case and the opponent is Bong In Jae, so once he finishes this case, he'll try to leave. And Mystery Woman? She's dead. She didn't die because of him. It was a chronic illness, so he shouldn’t feel guilty any longer and should just forget.

Jung Woo is obviously crushed. He can’t believe it and asks about where Mystery Woman is buried. Soo Ah protests that he can't! W-why? Oh! That person's family also doesn't like talking about the subway incident so she couldn't ask anything else. Jung Woo says that she's someone who saved him, so he wants to at least greet her. He pleads with Soo Ah to ask again. She reluctantly agrees. Being evil doesn’t suit you, Soo Ah.

In his room, Jung Woo finds the candy wrapper and sadly looks at it. He closes his eyes as the tears come.

The next morning, Jung Woo starts Operation Ignore Cheok Hee. He starts to give her something but catches himself and gives it to Jung Sook instead. Jung Sook reads the complaint and does not like Husband at all. This- this - this jerk. Leaving his sick wife, he's living with another woman and with his daughter and is asking for a divorce? He's a rotten bastard. Cheok Hee wonders why they didn’t sue the hospital and Kyung declares that it’s a waste of time and money and always a lost cause. Jung Woo tells Jung Sook that he needs a certified copy of the apartment lease and Husband’s cell phone records. Then he asks Jung Sook to help him with the case. Instead of Cheok Hee. Jung Sook is agreeable.

Of course she asks what the deal is. Why isn’t he giving this to her?! Jung Woo tells Cheok Hee that this time, she should stay out of it. Stay out of it?! Jung Woo says that it would be a good idea for her to distance herself. Cheok Hee doesn’t understand why Jung Woo is acting like this. Jung Sook has discovered opposing counsel and asks if Bong In Jae himself is handling this case. Cheok Hee recognizes the name. Which will help her rationalize Jung Woo’s weird behavior: he’s trying to protect her. Got it now, Jung Woo. Not that she’s dating the guy’s son, but that Bong has a personal vendetta against Cheok Hee… Got it. You could at least explain, though.

Min Kyu enters. Jung Sook asks what kind of influential support does Husband have to hire Bong In Jae, personally? Min Kyu looks at Jung Woo and asks if he should take the case. Because the opponent seems easy. He can use it as a warm up. He asks Cheok Hee who should take it: him or Jung Woo. Sophie’s Choice! A pause as Cheok Hee struggles, but she says Min Kyu. He smiles like he just ate a canary. She quickly explains that it’s because Min Kyu knows all of Bong In Jae's methods and weaknesses... There's only one person in South Korea with that knowledge: Bong Min Kyu. If Jung Woo thinks objectively about just the client, it's a case that needs to be won, no matter what.

Jung Woo swallows and asks Cheok Hee if she feels that he would lose? She replies that it's not that he would lose, but that it's a case anybody could lose. Jung Woo is not satisfied with that logic. He replies that the case was not given to the office but to him. If Min Kyu wants to do it, he should go to the client and get the signature in person. Min Kyu sighs and says that he was giving Jung Woo a chance to pull out. Jung Woo asks if taking a winning case but abandoning a losing case, is how Min Kyu defines a lawyer? Min Kyu tells him to go ahead and try it, since he wants to do it so much. No matter who loses, it will be an interesting fight to watch. Without another word, Jung Woo goes back into his office.

Empty office. Soo Ah is with Hye Rin. She’s asking Hye Rin to work with her. Of course, she is. Fortunately, the new lawyer that's coming is someone Hye Rin knows, so she should feel comfortable. Hye Rin is happy when she hears that it’s Jung Woo. Why would Soo Ah ask Hye Rin to work for her? It was my impression that Hye Rin wasn’t that good of a legal assistant. Is it because Soo Ah feels bad for this single mom? Will this lead to a Kyung-Hye Rin reunion? I kind of like the idea of Kyung ending up a dad with Hye Rin rather than pining over a younger Yoo Mi. And that will serve her right for being so arrogant and shallow.

Jung Woo is conferring with Jung Sook and Cheok Hee has Kyung go in and steal a copy of the case. She works on it at home. She knows that Bong has something up his sleeve, but she just can’t figure out what.

Next day, Cheok Hee tells Kyung to tie her to her desk, so that she won’t go to Jung Woo’s trial. Kyung tells her that she’s really mean. They heard that Lawyer Bong In Jae is bringing all of his junior associates along like sausage links. So, they’re all going to support Hyung Jung Woo. Why is she the only one not going? She answers, asking if she has no pride. She was told to stay out of the case, so why would she go watch the trial? So why do you need to be tied up? Kyung sighs and does it.

Jung Woo is not wearing his Red Tie of Courage. He and the gang run into Bong and Soo Ah outside the courthouse. Bong *is* wearing a Red Tie of Courage. Bong cockily smiles and tells Jung Woo that he tries not to go against small firms when he does business, but a lawyer mentor of his asked me to take care of this client, so he couldn't refuse. Jung Woo thanks Bong for the concern and adds that these days, even bread from the neighborhood bakeries tastes better. Bong laughs and goes in. Soo Ah gives Jung Woo a ‘fighting.’

Min Kyu arrives and is surprised that Cheok Hee is not there. Jung Woo has noticed, too, and it bothers him. Back in the office, Cheok Hee is struggling to get loose from where Kyung has tied her up. Finally, she’s able to grab some scissors and get loose.

Back at the trial, it is not going well. Min Kyu smiles when Bong dings Jung Woo. Cheok Hee arrives quietly. Judge asks why Husband has his mistress living with him. Husband says that it’s for the welfare of the child. Jung Woo points out that Husband just admitted to the affair and the rule precludes the adulterer from requesting the divorce. Good rule. He asks for the petition to be dismissed. Bong points out that charging a person with the crime of adultery was abolished not too long ago. This means that the government has recognized a person's individual right to be happy.

Bong says that Sun Hee is unable to lead a normal married life because she is a quadriplegic. Oh, so that’s what it is. It wasn’t quite clear before. There has been no improvement for the past ten years. Therefore, to force Suk Eul Nam to support this marriage is not only unbearable pain, but it is also a violation of his individual right to pursue happiness. Also, in 2009, at trial in Seoul Family Court, the wife in that case slipped into a coma for seven years after delivering their child. The husband filed for divorce claiming their marriage was impossible to continue. The court acknowledged the gravity of the situation and issued a judgment for the Plaintiff. That's all. That’s totally different! This wife is still conscious and able to interact. This butthead just doesn’t want to be bothered. He doesn’t even take the daughter to see her own mother! What real court would think that that precedent goes with this situation? Shows how k-drama writers aren’t really familiar with the legal system. Or maybe the legal system is different in Korea.

Judge asks if Sun Hee’s condition is going to improve. Jung Woo tries to avoid answering, but Judge pegs him to having to admit that there’s no chance of improving. Bong smiles. And so, Jung Woo loses that round. Min Kyu is happy and tells his father that he looks quite handsome today. Jung Woo exits the courthouse and Bong tells Jung Woo that even if it is a neighborhood bakery shop, he figured it would be worth eating at, since his son runs it. Next time he needs to come prepared and show him what he’s really got. Jung Woo cringes and is obviously upset over losing for his client. He looks at everyone’s sorry faces and leaves first.

Jung Woo goes drinking. Kyung has joined him. His phone rings. Soo Ah calls. Thank you, knowing Hangul! He doesn’t answer, but turns his phone over. I wonder if he would have answered it if Cheok Hee had called. Kyung tells him that the case isn’t over yet. Jung Woo asks if it would have been different if Min Kyu had done it. Jung Woo says that the client doesn't care who the lawyer is, all you have to do is win. He was so hung up on his feelings that he didn't think about his client. He swears that if Sun Hee ends up getting a divorce while in the hospital, he won’t be able to face her. Kyung tries encourage him. Jung Woo decides to head back to the office.

Next day, Cheok Hee arrives, complaining about stepping in gum. Jung Sook hushes her, because Jung Woo has been working all night. Jung Woo comes out and asks for a group meeting. Everyone but Cheok Hee heads into the conference room. Although Min Kyu isn’t there and wouldn’t he want to help win this thing? Or maybe not, since it will make Jung Woo look bad. Jung Woo asks if she didn't hear him say that there is a group meeting? She answers that he told her to keep her hands off this case. He apologizes and says that the case needs everyone but he let his feelings get the better of him. As a lawyer, he’s ashamed about how he behaved. From now on, he’s only going to focus on the trial, so she should please help him.

Jung Woo tells Jung Sook to look into Suk Eul Nam's assets. Investigate whether there is any evidence of him stealing Sun Hee’s assets. He plans on showing the Court that he does not have the right to claim that he is simply pursuing his happiness. Kyung heads to the hospital to find a nurse to testify that Seok Eul Nam doesn't come to the hospital. Yoo Mi is to find out about Na Sun Hee's hospital bills. Sun Hee tells Yoo Mi that her husband paid the bills in the beginning, but once he stopped any contact, nothing. Jung Woo sends Cheok Hee to find a doctor willing to make a medical statement. She says that she’ll comb through discussions and news articles as well.

Airport. Min Kyu is waiting for his fiancée. He doesn’t even recognize her. She recognizes him though. He tells her that Milan must have been very good to her, since she recognized him. She answers by saying that she didn’t find him by his face, but by his clothes. He was the best dressed. Wow, such a loving match. Min Kyu takes to pushing her cart. Which has hardly any luggage. She asks why he’s there. What’s so urgent matter? He wants to call off the engagement. She doesn’t want to, because it will only give them a headache. If there's a woman he wants to sleep with, then sleep with her. He replies that she's not that type of a woman.

Fiancée asks if the woman who called her and asked for a favor was Min Kyu’s ‘woman.’ Does she want to marry him? He answers that he’s the one who's interested in her. She has no interest in him. Then why does he want to break up? Min Kyu answers that he knows something now: what it feels like to really care about someone. He would hate to marry her feeling this way. They should break up. POW!

Jung Sook reports that everything she checked, none of Sun Hee’s assets were transferred to Seok Eul Nam. Kyung says that none of the nurses are willing to testify. Yoo Mi says that Seok Eul Nam paid the hospital bills for five years until 2010. Then for the next 5 years, it was Na Sun Hee. Cheok Hee didn’t have any luck either. Jung Woo nods and heads back into his office. The staff worries what’s going to happen at the trial.

Fiancée stops by and sees CEO Aunt. She tells Fiancée to stop and see Bong. Fiancée goes looking for Min Kyu, but only Jung Woo’s there. She leaves a message with him that she’s looking for her fiancée. Cheok Hee is there to over hear. She immediately ducks out of sight, but not before Jung Woo sees her do it. He asks Fiancée to repeat herself. Fiancée leaves her card and goes.

Jung Woo then asks why Cheok Hee is hiding. Did she know that CEO Bong had a woman he was going to marry? Cheok Hee stutters over her answer. He asks if she knew and was still seeing CEO Bong? Does she like CEO Bong that much? Cheok Hee answers that she was going to say something. She also had a reason. Jung Woo answers that reasons are given by mistreated people. People who have affairs give excuses not reasons! Cheok Hee can’t believe he said that. How can her accuse her of that without listening to her side first?

But Jung Woo isn’t going to have any of that. He yells that he held it in! There’s a pause because she’s shocked. He collects himself and says, “Because we can't ruin one person's life in order to save someone else's. In my heart, I swallowed my feelings... pushed them down, saved them, and held them back again and again!! How could you...how could you do this?” He sighs as she says his name. He adds that he was hard trying to keep away from her. It's finally easy now. He’s going to go. He can't stand to see her. He leaves the office and Cheok Hee can’t believe what just happened. There was her love declaration.

After a moment, she snaps out of her shock and runs after him. He’s gone. She tries calling and he takes the battery out of his phone. Because turning off the ringer wouldn’t work.

Cheok Hee returns home, completely frustrated because she keeps getting Jung Woo’s voicemail. Abeoji sees her frustrated and asks why. Abeoji is visiting. Yay. She says that she must be an idiot! She couldn't say a single word to him! Abeoji is clueless: Did she argue with someone? Abeoji notices ‘Nan Joong Il Gi.’ Cheok Hee cries that she wanted to please him so she memorized the whole book. Dang! Why couldn’t she say a single word in front of him! Abeoji asks if she’s seeing a man. What does he do? Cheok Hee answers that he’s a lawyer in her office. It's all a big misunderstanding and she didn't even get a chance to explain. Really! She just wants to die!

Abeoji tells Cheok Hee to just go and tell her man the truth if it bothers her that much. Getting hurt from a misunderstanding is the most worthless pain ever. Cheok Hee agrees. She’s going to do it! No matter what happens today, She’s going to tell him everything face to face. She thought he had a girlfriend, so she lied and pretended to date someone else. Truthfully, the person she likes is him. She rushes off without her purse.

Jung Woo is driving, thinking about how disgusted he is. He misses Cheok Hee at his house. Because he’s gone to her apartment. Abeoji asks why Jung Woo is there so late. Jung Woo almost calls Cheok Hee Office Manager Go but catches himself. And then Abeoji tells Jung Woo that Cheok Hee went to find the lawyer in her office that she likes. Jung Woo is surprised. Abeoji grumbles that she, who had never cried before, cried because of him. She said he has a girlfriend. Jung Woo can’t believe that Cheok Hee told Abeoji all that. He asks how Abeoji could let her go and meet him?!

He pulls out his handphone and tries calling Cheok Hee, but she left hers. Jung Woo tries to leave, but Abeoji stops him and makes him sit. Abeoji tells Jung Woo to just let Cheok Hee go. She seems like she is very fond of him. Jung Woo starts to protest but Abeoji tells Jung Woo that he really appreciates him. Abeoji appreciates that Jung Woo has stayed by her side, even though she has a bad temper, and he’s understood her, as well. Abeoji wonders why Cheok Hee avoided the awkward situation at work by she pretending that she has a boyfriend. Oh, my gosh! I love that this show does not drag out the misunderstandings! That got Jung Woo’s attention. Dad points to Nan Joong Il Gi and says that Cheok Hee said that the guy she likes, likes this book. So, she memorized it.

Hearing ‘Nan Joong Il Gi’ Jung Woo clarifies that Cheok Hee said that the guy she likes, he likes book? Of course! Did she really say he likes this book? Jung Woo can’t believe it. Stunned, he leaves Cheok Hee’s apartment. All the pieces click into place. Cheok Hee thought he had a girlfriend, so she pretended that Min Kyu was her boyfriend. So she really likes him! Off he runs to try and find her. As he drives, he cringes over everything he said. But she’s not at the office.

♬ That one day ♬ ♬ Your warmth ♬ ♬ The day when it penetrated deep into my heart ♬ ♬ The naive promises of believing in forever ♬ ♬ I will erase all of them now ♬

Arg! Cheok Hee is almost to Jung Woo’s house when she runs into Soo Ah. Soo Ah asks why she’s there. Cheok Hee says that she wanted to see Jung Woo. Soo Ah asks why. Cheok Hee answers that it’s a personal matter. Soo Ah doesn't need to know. Yeah. You go, Cheok Hee. Soo Ah says that it seems like she prepared well for the trial tomorrow, because she came down here for her personal matter. Even though she prepares double or triple times, she still will be beat up by Lawyer Bong In Jae. Does she intend to let her lawyer go to trial without preparation? Cheok Hee asks what she’s saying. Soo Ah asks if Cheok Hee knows how Jung Woo feels right now after losing completely his first trial? He feels worse because he thinks she’s shacking up with Min Kyu as an adulteress. Soo Ah tells Cheok Hee that she should wait until after the trial to talk to Jung Woo about her personal matter. Cheok Hee, of all people, should understands about the lawyer's mind.

Jung Woo arrives home and asks Mom if anyone came looking for him. He’s in such a hurry, he forgets to take off his shoes. Mom yells at him about it, but he ignores her, repeating his question. Mom says no one did. Soo Ah arrives but Jung Woo goes running back out.

Cheok Hee is walking home, grumbling about Soo Ah. But, Cheok Hee talks herself out of finding Jung Woo. You only thought about your own feelings, Go Cheok Hee. He said he will not be able to face his client again if he loses the case. What is more important than the trial? Jung Woo doesn’t find her, but tries calling, only to get her voice mail. And doesn’t leave a message, which would have cleared everything up.

The next day, Cheok Hee is at the hospital, begging a nurse to testify. Nurse won’t budge.

Jung Woo has been up all night again, trying to think of something. He checks his phone’s texts:
Where are you, Go Cheok Hee?

I can't contact you.

I am waiting for you to call me.

Please call me.

If you see this text message, please call me.

Mom comes in to check on him. Right then, Jung Woo notices something. Husband stopped renting and began to own the apartment July 1st, 2006. The car was registered in 2006. He paid 50,000,000 won to join a country club (Super Rich Country Gold Club) in 2006. Eureka!

Cheok Hee is begging another nurse, who says that she wants to help, but the hospital administration is pressuring her not to get involved. Sun Hee is worried, but Cheok Hee assures her that our lawyer would never give up so easily. Jung Woo calls. Cheok Hee tells Sun Hee not to tell him she’s there. He asks how she afforded to buy the house in Cheonho-Dong, when she had her surgery in 2006. Wife still thinks that it’s a rental. She knows nothing about the country club membership. Jung Woo tells her that when you total everything purchased in 2006, it’s about 300M won. What a Scumball to go live the high life while your wife is a paraplegic, off the money that you secretly got from her malpractice settlement.

Cheok Hee starts talking on the phone. He’s momentarily shocked, but she’s doesn’t let him get distracted. Jung Woo wonders where Husband got all that money. Cheok Hee remembers about suing the hospital. That’s where the scumbag got the money. They realize it at the same time. Cheok Hee tells Jung Woo that she will go and check with the billing department of the hospital. He should go to the court. He agrees. He adds that she should be careful. Don't run. His tone is so sweet. She tells him to do the same and concentrate. Don't waver and do what you must. Hers is, too. I love this OTP! Jung Woo gets dressed.

Jung Woo heads off the court. But he’s not wearing his Red Tie of Courage. Time is ticking. Bong is requesting that the judge declares the divorce valid. Cheok Hee is running and snags her shoe in a crack in the sidewalk, causing her to fall. Big old scraped knee, but she gets up and keeps going. Judge asks Jung Woo if he has any more evidence to submit. Luckily Cheok Hee arrives. Cheok Hee to the rescue!

Jung Woo confidently stands and declares that there is evidence. The defendant, Na Sun Hee was first admitted to the hospital in 2006, and at that time an agreement was written between the plaintiff, Seok Eul Nam and the hospital. He submits the contract as evidence. Scumbag is nervous and Bong knew nothing about this settlement. Scumbag is sweating now.

Jung Woo reads: “Written Agreement. Party B Na Sun Hye will not bring a medical malpractice action against Party B Chakhan Hospital in exchange for Party A paying ten years' worth of hospital expenses for a total amount of $300 million KRW.” signed by Suk Eul Nam under a power of attorney. The plaintiff , Suk Eul Nam, did not inform the defendant even when he accepted the settlement in her name. Moreover, he acted as if he was paying the hospital bills out of his own pocket and then he stopped paying altogether. The plaintiff, Suk Eul Nam, was unwilling to bear any of the financial burden of care for his disabled wife. It is difficult to see how the plaintiff's right to pursue happiness was violated. If anything, he only gave his wife a greater financial burden to bear. This is blatant proof of abandonment with malicious intent. It is only just that the plaintiff's request for divorce be dismissed.

Judge asks Scumbag about the settlement. Scumbag tries to get out of answering. Is it true that the hospital bills were to be covered by the settlement? Scumbag has to say ‘yes.’ And Scumbag just lost. And I wonder if Sun Hee’s condition might not have shown some improvement if she’d been able to use some of that money for advanced treatments. Plus, the guy was so greedy that he settled for that sum, when he could have gotten a *lot* more money so something like that. Recently, a woman was awarded $35.4M because her doctor failed to put her on a database that flagged patients with certain conditions and would have precluded her having natural labor, which caused the stroke which has left her requiring 24-hour care. I wonder if they could go back and sue the hospital, since Scumbag made the agreement without Sun Hee’s consent and she didn’t benefit from it for almost 10 years. Bong congratulates Jung Woo, saying, “It seems that the neighborhood bread was worth eating today. But don't forget, that in our field, an appeal is the first thing that we file.” Bong gives him a friendly pat and leaves. Cheok Hee gives Soo Ah a friendly smile as Soo Ah leaves.

Outside, Bong tells Soo Ah to file the appeal and to interrogate that bastard more thoroughly and see if he is lying about anything else. Inside, Jung Woo is giving Cheok Hee a hard time for running. She says that she’s fine. He replies that she was so vicious toward me. Three years ago, she ordered him to buy stockings for her. Couldn't she find anyone else to buy them for her? She shrugs and says that she’s not a lawyer anymore, so who cares. He thanks her. She replies that he figured it out.

She starts to go, but Jung Woo stops her, saying that he’s curious about something about her. When she asks what it is, he pulls her into the witness chair, holds up her right hand and makes her swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Do she agree, in the case of perjury, to accept due punishment? She asks him what he’s doing. He doesn’t answer, but asks her if she swears. He leans in and asks if she could like a person she once hated? She asks him what he's saying. He tells her to please answer with a 'yes' or 'no'. Could she like him?

I love this camera angle they have going right now. And they’re only about a foot apart. Cheok Hee answers, “Yes.” Is there a person she likes right now? Yes. Is that person... So Jung Woo? She’s been avoiding looking at him, but now she does. He repeats the question. Is it him? She nods and says, “Yes.” Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Yes. She looks down. Jung Woo leans down and kisses her. It’s super sweet!

♬ The day when you came to me ♬

He finishes his kiss and asks if she has any objections. See, it’s a cool tie-in for the title of the episode. To answer, she stands up and kisses him.

Episode ends. Best way to end the episode!

Thoughts

I really like how this episode ended. I’m loving that misunderstandings aren’t dragged out forever and that it was Abeoji who actually cleared up Jung Woo’s misunderstanding. Another thing that I’m loving is the fact that our OTP don’t just get wounded and go off and sulk. They actually confront the situation.

The blow-up/misunderstanding between Jung Woo and Cheok Hee was a good one because:
  1. Got us to Jung Woo’s confession – although it didn’t quite come across that way
  2. Got to Cheok Hee’s confession – even though it came via Abeoji
  3. Exposed the fake dating, which is going to really be fun to watch how Min Kyu deals with that
  4. Got us to them finally realizing that they liked each other
  5. Showed that even when they’re mad at each other, they still care about how the other person feels and don’t like being mad
  6. Showed how genuinely they care for each other – Jung Woo telling her not to run even before he’s gotten to truly confess – and how well they work together when they realize that each has the other’s backs
  7. Lead into one of the best ‘I love you’ kisses
Good job, writers, for that one!

Okay, I said it before and I’m sticking by it: I do not think that Mystery Woman is Cheok Hee. Yes, Mystery Woman offered a man wanting a divorce Cheok Hee’s card. That doesn’t mean that it’s Cheok Hee. (And my impression was that Cheok Hee mainly worked for the wives, not the husbands.) There’s too many things that say that she isn’t:
  1. Cheok Hee shows no signs of post-traumatic stress over the explosion. She has no problem riding the metro and doesn’t think twice about taking it. Someone who survived an incident like that wouldn’t be so nonchalant.
  2. She had no problem sitting in the metro for a long time helping Jung Woo get over his PTSD. At no point did she put 2 and 2 together that Jung Woo’s problem was from the explosion. Someone who had gone through something like that and saw someone acting like that, would connect those dots. Cheok Hee understood about being overwhelmed because of her mother’s death, but I can’t see a survivor not asking another survivor if they’d gone through it.
  3. Cheok Hee doesn’t eat the peppermint candy that MW eats. She eats a different candy. If you like a brand of candy, you don’t just fall out of like for it. It follows that MW still eats the same type of candy.
  4. Cheok Hee seems unaffected by the new stories about the anniversary of the explosion.
  5. Where would Cheok Hee have come across henna to get stained finger tips? I can’t really see her doing this traditional practice and since she was an attorney at that time, I can’t see her somehow working with Abeoji and randomly getting her fingers stained. The drama has been focusing on the shoes with the red bows, but what about stained the finger tips? And if it was something that Cheok Hee did back then, why wouldn’t she be doing it now?
I’m more inclined to think that MW is Min Kyu’s fiancée – given how they kept her mostly hidden, just like they’re doing with MW. I also just wondered if possibly MW is Mi Ri. That’s a left-field idea, but it would be a plausible explanation for how she sadly reacted to the picture of the little boy. It would also make her ultimately redeemable, which is what I think the writers are going for and it could bring an end to CEO Aunt’s vendetta.

If it does turn out to be Cheok Hee, I am going to be very disappointed. The writers haven’t disappointed me yet, so my fingers are crossed.

I’m wondering how long Soo Ah’s trip on the dark side is going to last. She’s set out on a path that is going to ruin her future. Wang Ji Won is doing a good job of making her entirely likeable instead of evil. She’s playing the inner turmoil well, showing that sometimes good people make bad decisions. And Soo Ah’s decision to hide MW’s identity is really going to backfire in a big way. (1) Because if it is Cheok Hee, Jung Woo’s going to find out anyway, (2) it being Cheok Hee isn’t going to make him love her more, and (3) he is going to feel very betrayed when he finds out how Soo Ah manipulated him and lied. This is something so important to Jung Woo, important to the core of his being, and Soo Ah knows that. That she would betray his trust about it, that’s something that is going to not be pleasant to watch as he realizes it. It could lead to some good Cheok Hee action, though, but I am predicting that we are going to see at least an episode of Jung Woo anger and wrath over Soo Ah’s betrayal.

I think getting away from Bong will actually make her attractive to Min Kyu. I can see this trip on the dark side as something that Min Kyu can rescue her from and bring them together. I think that he sees her as not needing him or anyone, and for someone like Min Kyu, he needs that, because he doesn’t need anything and no one in his life really needs him either, except for Cheok Hee. By her not being perfect or trying to be perfect – which is how I think Min Kyu sees her right now, since she’s dutifully obedient to his dad and at Bong’s beck and call, and she does the right thing – she’s going to be someone that Min Kyu will finally see as someone who might just need him and someone who will accept the him that he hides from everyone.

I do really like the second leads both. Soo Ah is practical and self-aware and isn’t selfish. She’s just heart-broken and making bad decisions. Min Kyu is charming in spite of himself. He really amuses me. He is still pretty much of an enigma for me, though… I wonder what Fiancée is going to do when she discovers Cheok Hee is working at Min Kyu’s office. Is she going to go lay down the hammer? I can’t see CEO Aunt not telling her. And what type of relationship does she have with Mi Ri’s daughter? Does she have one?

How is the Cheok Hee being disbarred going to get settled? Will she decide to remain an office manager?

What’s going to happen with Bong? Is he ultimately going to get humbled and reconciled with Min Kyu? That would be too much of a neat bow for me if the writers do make that happen. It does occur to me that Bong and Min Kyu are very much alike in that they are good at putting on a pleasant façade to hide their true feelings. Bong is all confidence and smiles when talking to Jung Woo, even though he’s ticked and calling his client a “bastard” for not disclosing a big issue. They also know how to flatter and smile when necessary.

I wonder how things are going to play out at the office, now .that Cheok Hee and Jung Woo have acknowledged their feelings. Are they going to keep their relationship a secret (for as much as their giddiness can)? That could actually be quite amusing… hiding the real relationship and still playing at the fake one. Min Kyu is not going to be happy and hopefully Jung Woo can convince Cheok Hee of that so she doesn’t tell her Sunbae everything.
