You're All Surrounded Episode 13 Recap

The episode starts right where it left off last time: Dae Goo at the house of Yoo Ae Yun, there because the woman assaulted Mom. Moon Bae rolls up and is horrified that Dae Goo is on his doorstep. Dae Goo shows her the video footage of her beating Mom. She’s even still wearing the clothes she had on when she beat Mom. Ae Yun and Son lean in and look at video while Father looks really annoyed. Son sigh and asks in an annoyed voice if Ae Yun caused trouble again. Again? Really? She shoots a look at her son. Moon Bae rolls down his window. Still looking like he’s freaking out.

What’s Ae Yun’s answer to Dae Goo’s question? She looks at Dae Goo and haughtily asks what he’s doing (blocking her path). That's her answer. She isn’t even ashamed. She orders him to move. He could arrest you right now, although how he was planning on transporting her, I don’t know, since he arrived by taxi. Why not take the van? And another reason why I love Dae Goo: Dae Goo doesn’t move but stays right in her path. He asks Ae Yun where the victim is, because she’s missing. Ae Yun’s reaction? Even more annoyed, practically yelling at Dae Goo for bothering her with this. Moon Bae gets out of the car.

Dae Goo, undeterred by someone powerful yelling at him, raises his voice as he says that the victim's whereabouts are unaccounted for! Father decides to step in a diffuse the situation. He asks Dae Goo about being from Gangnam Police Station. Dae Goo immediately diffuses and looks at Father respectfully. Moon Bae decides to assert himself, asking what’s going on. Dae Goo and Moon Bae look at each other as Ae Yun wears a look of ‘you’re in trouble now. He’s going to take care of this!’ Please don’t tell me they are married. He’s way older than she is.

Now we’re inside their home. Moon Bae is looking at the video. Dae Goo is seated to his left and Ae Yun and Father are seated to his right. Should I be calling him Father? Moon Bae could be Ae Yun’s husband instead. Ae Yun’s still wearing an ‘I can’t believe I’m being hassled by this’ look. Nice family portrait on the wall. Based on that, either Father is the brother or I’ve named him correctly and Moon Bae is her father. Grandson sits with Moon Bae while the parents stand behind. Lots of family photos on display. Mother certainly is vain. Two of the son. One of Father and Moon Bae and *three* of her. So it’s Daddy’s Girl syndrome, is it? Explains it all.

Son is watching the video over Moon Bae’s shoulder, reacting to how violent it is. He mutters daebak (awesome). Yes! I was right because Ae Yun just called Moon Bae Appa! Appa is all that Ae Yun can get out before Moon Bae silences her with a hand wave and an angry look. He tells her to just stay silent, which she does but not before she wears the face of a sulking teenager, irritated that she’s getting yelled at for something so stupid. As if! Moon Bae announces that he understands and ‘we’ have to investigate to see what exactly happened. We? And it’s pretty obvious what happened. He tells Dae Goo that for now, he should go back to the station.

Dae Goo pauses for a beat. He’s probably thinking what I am: who are you to dismiss a policeman? There’s nothing to investigate. It’s clearly battery. And my Dae Goo lovefest continues as: Dae Goo looks at Moon Bae, and without any hesitation says that he will leave right away if they answer one question. He again repeats his question, asking where Mom is. Ae Yun’s face huffs and her face says that she can’t believe Dae Goo’s audacity. Moon Bae tells Dae Goo to go back to the station. It’s more of an order, like he can’t believe the kid didn’t cower to his authority.

Dae Goo looks from Ae Yun to Moon Bae and sighs. He knows that he’s not going to get anywhere right now so he says that he will go back and start investigating immediately. Then he tells Ae Yun in a very official voice that he will get back to her officially. He pulls out and leaves his card for her, while the mystery music plays. He has got to be related to them. The music wouldn't be playing if her weren't. He says that Ae Yun clearly used violence and she *will* be punished according to the law. Then he politely bows and leaves the room with Son following behind. Ae Yun still can’t believe that policeman! Father straightens his tie and Moon Bae sighs, annoyed, because he knows that Dae Goo is going to be a problem.

Son is smiling. He compliments Dae Goo, telling him, “Pretty awesome, man.” He gives Dae Goo a thumbs up. Dae Goo doesn’t say anything and leaves. He's got to be thinking something like 'weird rich people.' And soon you will be one of them... Something – probably a vase – shatters and Son mutters that he was startled.

Moon Bae is huffing, really angry. It was probably him who broke the something. Son hides behind the wall so he can eavesdrop. Father is still stoically sitting on the couch but Ae Yun’s wearing a face like, ‘Gahd, I’m going to have to sit through one of his rants. What’s the big deal? It’s not like it costs anyone money.’ She really does remind me of a spoiled teenager, even though she’s *clearly* not. Ae Yun announces that it's not going to cause trouble legally. They already wrote a whole settlement... Wow. She’s not even worried about the criminal charges she’s facing right now.

Moon Bae screams at her, asking her if she’s really saying those words right now?!! Ae Yun rolls her eyes as Moon Bae says that *the video* is going around the internet. And her father is a politician! Mom gets up and screams in frustration and wonders how the W Department Store can do this to her! Wow, she doesn’t even care about her father. All she’s thinking about is herself. And certainly not Mom WHO IS MISSING RIGHT NOW. She orders Father to call President Han immediately. Are they crazy? How can this kind of video be taken from a VIP room and then released to the public?! Father sighs. Moon Bae tells his assistant to get in touch with Lawyer Kim and call in the advisers. They need to start by finding out ways to block the video. And no matter what the circumstances, make sure that *his* name isn't mentioned. Assistant hurries off to work on blocking it as best as they can. Ah, Moon Bae, don’t you know that once it’s on the internet, it’s out there for good?

Father announces that he will leave now. Moon Bae asks him if he’s watching a fire across the river? A really great way of asking if he’s looking at something that has no relation to him. I have to remember that one. Still stoic, Father replies that he thinks that there isn't much that he can do. Moon Bae just squints at him as he leaves. Ae Yun sighs, annoyed. Son says to himself, “That's right. Our family is messed up.” If only you knew.

Here’s my theory now: Father is the son-in-law and Ae Yun is Daddy’s spoiled little rich girl. Their marriage was probably some merger, but Father never loved the brat. Father fell in love with Oma. Oma had a kid, Dae Goo. Father might even have been planning on divorcing Ae Yun, which is why Moon Bae had them eliminated. How dare Father insult his daughter like that! And probably the money mostly is from Father’s side of the family, which is why it's a big deal if Dae Goo exists (and explains why Moon Bae’s set on Dae Goo not existing). And Son *is* younger than Dae Goo. Son seems cool – hopefully he will stay that way when he hears that he’s going to have to share his inheritance.

Dae Goo leaves the house – Pyongchang 11-gil 132 for anyone who’s interested – and looks back at the family in disbelief. Jaw clench. He calls Gook and asks if they found Mom. Nope. Soo Sun is still calling her but Mom isn’t answering. Aw, and she brought such goodies for them, too. Pan Suk’s in the process of watching the video at the moment. He can’t believe it either. Finally Mom answers. Soo Sun begs Mom to say where she is. The concern is evident in her voice. Mom’s not saying anything. Soo Sun sighs and asks if Mom really wants to see her daughter die? So Mom finally answers, telling Soo Sun where she is. We don’t hear it, though. Soo Sun tells Mom to stay there and she will be there in 30 minutes.

Pan Suk tells Soo Sun that they’ll go together. As they dash out, Pan Suk tells Gook and Tae Il to let Eung Do know what happened. Pan Suk and Soo Sun arrive at where Mom said she was. Once inside, Soo Sun tells Pan Suk that she will go in first, which Pan Suk agrees to. Mom lets her in and Mom runs away, hiding her face. Finally Soo Sun gets Mom to look at her. Her face is bruised and cut up in a bunch of places. Soo Sun fights starting to cry right then as Mom asks her why she had to come.

Soo Sun asks Mom to tell her why it happened. Mom doesn’t want to explain but instead says that somehow it happened like this. Stuff like this doesn’t “somehow” just happen. Soo Sun again asks why it happened. Why did that woman hit Mom, and why did Mom only get beaten? Mom’s shocked that Soo Sun knows that Ae Yun beat her. Seeing Soo Sun’s tears, Mom frustratedly slaps herself and tells Soo Sun not to ask. Mom says that she was beaten because it was worth getting beaten over. Soo Sun has my response to that: “Mom, are you an idiot?! Where in the world is there such a thing?” Sorry, but I don’t even think in Korean society that this is appropriate. I get to beat you in exchange for ruining my *bag.*

Soo Sun continues to pester Mom about what she did that’s worth being beaten for? Mom continues to try to get Soo Sun to drop it. Soo Sun asks her again if she’s being like this because she really wants to see Soo Sun die?! I love that. There’s a knock at the door. Pan Suk announces that he’s coming in. Mom hides her face as Pan Suk introduces himself. And I can understand that. She’s meeting Soo Sun’s boss for the first time and she’s a mess. She bows respectfully at Pan Suk, so Pan Suk gets a glimpse of her face. He’s shocked. She hides it again and he asks if she’s all right. Mom tries to pretend that everything’s normal, apologizing for not greeting Pan Suk and asking him to sit down. Pan Suk sits, facing away from Mom.

Pan Suk tells Mom – continuing to call her Mother – that even if she doesn't say anything, this isn't a matter that can just be let go. He tells Mom that it’s difficult for him to even endure. Aw! How much worse must it be for Soo Sun. So, Mom shouldn’t be afraid and tell them what happened. Pan Suk tells Mom that the person who should be afraid isn't Mom, but the person who assaulted her. How could that woman act out such violence on a person without being crazy? Mom starts to sob.

Flashback to that meeting in the VIP room. A lawyer presents Mom with a document and reads what it says. Because Mom's too common and stupid to be able to read it. The assailant Yoo Ae Yun... the victim Jang Hyang Sook... on June 21, 2014, regarding the incident that arose at W Department Store, treatment costs, psychological damages included agree to settle on the sum of 50 million won. The amount previously mentioned is considered paid for by the reimbursement of Yoo Ae Yeon's Mercury bag which retails for 50 million won. Mom’s reading the document. She asks what they mean by this “incident that occurred in the W Department Store?” and what do they mean by medical fees? Ae Yun smiles smugly.

Lawyer opens the red ink and tells Mom that she only need to stamp here. So Mom does, without getting her questions answered. Which is where Mom was stupid. Ae Yun immediately starts beating Mom with the purse. Mom asks Ae Yun what she’s doing and Ae Yun replies that Mom signed the agreement. Then Ae Yun starts beating her again.

There’s two VIP attendants, standing on the side. One looks at the other like she can’t believe this is happening. The other one is staring straight ahead not seeing anything. Lawyer isn’t seeing anything either. But Girl really can’t stomach what’s going on. And she’s recording the whole thing on her phone. And, dang, Ae Yun didn’t just hit her once or twice. She beats her for several minutes and probably at least 50 times.

Mom’s crying as she finishes. Soo Sun is furious, her hands clenched and shaking. And we all know how she feels about injustice. She can’t believe that’s why Mom got beaten up, to pay back 50 million won. Mom replies that she didn't realize the agreement was for that kind of thing, since she said she'd forget the 50 million won. Pan Suk asks if Mom has the agreement she signed. She does. He looks at it. After reading it, Pan Suk says that they should quickly go to the hospital. Where they need to take lots of pictures for the battery charge.

Soo Sun and Pan Suk gently walk Mom into the hospital. Mom’s hiding her face. Soo Sun leaves them for a moment to run to the bathroom around the corner. And as we watch her go, it’s obvious that she’s going there to cry.

Soo Sun sinks down onto a bench and starts to sob. She’s making me cry. The gang arrive and see her sitting alone and sobbing. They all feel bad for her, but leave her alone so she won’t be embarrassed for crying. Dae Goo leaves last, though. And you should have gone and comforted her!

Soo Sun tucks Mom into bed. The boys all try not to cry. Soo Sun tells them they can go. Tae Il and Gook bid her farewell. Dae Goo just looks at Mom.

Outside the hospital, Gook yells with frustration. He’s appalled that someone can do that to another person’s face. Tae Il and Dae Goo don’t feel much better. Tae Il says that he’s heard of the term Prepaid Assault, but this is unheard of! He can’t believe the lady made Mom sign the Agreement first, then beat her up. Dae Goo replies that Ae Yun considered Mom a bug. Even so, this is uncalled for. Gook says that he can never forgive something like this and says that they need to take care of this themselves!

[Episode 13: A line by your side]

Next morning, the boys are getting ready for work. Tae Il is making some pine nut porridge for Mom. Gook goes to get Dae Goo up, but he’s already left.

Soo Sun is gently cleaning Mom’s hand. Mom clucks that her legs aren’t broken; she can just go wash up in the bathroom. Soo Sun replies that Mom should just enjoy it while she can, since it’s not a daily luxury. Mom tries to make Soo Sun feel better by saying that she’s fine. Soo Sun replies that of course she’s fine. She’s Mrs. Jang Hyang Sook. Nice little moment.

Dae Goo enters and Mom immediately hides her face and croons that she’s embarrassed. Soo Sun asks why she feels like that, since Dae Goo’s from their hometown. Mom remembers that Dae Goo’s Ji Yong. Mom explains that Soo Sun told her the whole thing the night before. Dae Goo’s the one who looks embarrassed now. Mom declares that it makes sense, since when she saw him for the first time, it didn't feel like he was someone that she had just met. It felt like he’s family. Aw. Dae Goo doesn’t say anything, but looks a little emotional. So am I; I’m a little misty.

Mom gently tells Ji Yong that, from now on, he’s her son and he should call her “Oma.” Dae Goo looks like he doesn’t know what to say so all he says is “yes.” He looks down, embarrassed. Soo Sun smiles, touched that Mom has adopted Ji Yong, too. And I’m crying now. He’ll be your son-in-law eventually. And Mom switches into Mom mode, saying that since her son came all the way here, he should let her feed him something or at least a drink. Dae Goo calls her Omeoni and tells her later. He pulls out the bouquet he brought and gives them to her. Mom is shocked and gushes over how pretty they are while Dae Goo’s embarrassed at the praise. She thanks Dae Goo, who smiles in return.

Tae Il and Gook arrive and Mom crows that all of her sons are there. What about Nam Sun? Just saying. Ah - they're her city sons... She says to Soo Sun that being sick is quite worth it! Aw! I really like Mom. She’s a sweet lady. I hope they stick it to Ae Yun good!!! Gook announces that Tae Il made her pine nut porridge. Mom’s impressed. Tae Il tries to brush off her praise by saying that he just followed a recipe. We all know he’s a good cook. Soo Sun is proud of her friends. Dae Goo’s got a strange look on his face, like he’s not used to being part of a family. Which makes sense since all he ever had was Oma and her lost her 11 years ago.

Mom coos about her precious porridge. Can she really eat it? She thanks her Sundubu son. Sundubu is a soft tofu stew. She’s calling him that because of his pale complexion. Heh. The cuts on her lips make it challenging but she joyfully eats it.

The boys have taken Soo Sun out to eat. And Dae Goo’s sitting next to her. No awkwardness. They forgot to be awkward because of what happened to Mom. Gook assures Soo Sun that they’re going to get that woman soon. Soo Sun isn’t sure that it’s possible because Mom signed that agreement. Dae Goo responds – in his ‘bird brain’ tone – that the agreement was signed under coercion, so it's unlawful. She doesn’t even notice the tone and thanks them for their concern. Dae Goo looks like it’s Oma that’s been beaten up.

Soo Sun gives Dae Goo some green onions before he can tell her not to. She’s surprised that he doesn't seem to like them, but after a pause, Dae Goo says that he does eat green onions and adds some more to his bowl. Tae Il and Gook are shocked. Although I can’t tell which one is more stunned by that one. Dae Goo starts to eat, although he’s gagging on his spoonful. But it made Soo Sun eat, so that’s what’s important, even if he has to force it down his throat.

Pan Suk and the gang – minus Soo Sun – is looking at the signed agreement. Dae Goo points out that there isn’t any verbiage stating that the victim doesn't want the assailant to be punished by law. Yay. Gook doesn’t see why that would make a difference. Dae Goo declares that usually an agreement includes a clause for excluding any future legal claims or punishment, but this one doesn't. Maybe the store lawyer overlooked that on purpose. Pan Suk tells Dae Goo that it’s a very good point. He adds that the Agreement was coerced under the pressure and the Victim was not notified of what the contents meant, so it’s nullified. But you really should have legal look at it to make that determination. But if some untrained cops can see that, it’s definitely a bad legal document.

Pan Suk tells them that it's going to be an uphill battle since she's going to have top of the line representation. Plus, if they can’t provide solid evidence, it’s going to hard to question Ae Yun at all. Dae Goo snaps at Pan Suk, asking him if he’s saying to drop the whole thing. No, you doofus! He’s just telling you to get ready. Eung Do sighs an ‘Aish.’ Like, will this boy never learn? This makes Dae Goo feel a little ashamed and stop glaring at Pan Suk. Pan Suk just takes a breath and continues like Dae Goo didn’t say anything. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that they find an eye witness who saw the whole situation and can provide a solid witness statement. Oi, that is a challenge, since the girl could lose her job for this.

Eung Do says that he and Tae Il will go get the list of employees who worked at the VIP lounge that day. I wonder how cooperative W is going to be in forking over the list. Gook announces that he’ll work with the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit to trace the initial IP address to see who originally uploaded the video. Pan Suk tells Dae Goo to come with him to go and visit Ae Yun.

Pan Suk rings the doorbell and when the maid answers, he declares that they are detectives from Gangnam Station. He asks if Ae Yun is available but Maid says that she’s not in. He says that they need to talk to her regarding her assault case. Maid doesn’t know when Ae Yun will be back. Sure you don’t. Pan Suk just rolls with it and tells Maid to pass along that the Madam Designer Bag case is currently under investigation as an assault case.

But who should drive up? Ae Yun, all smiles and talking on the phone. She gushes to the person on the other end of the line that it especially went so well today, it felt so right on her hands. Nothing can beat the excitement. So, did you use another bag to beat someone? She totally tries to ignore Pan Suk as he’s introducing himself, but glances at him when he says her name. Then she goes back to her conversation: What did he say? Chairman Han did? Chairman Han was the guy that was supposed to take care of the video. Ae Yun sighs and says that Chairman Han’s probably quite angry by now and the caller should let him be.

Pan Suk tries to get Ae Yun's attention again, but she keeps on ignoring him, laughing at what the caller said. “Now why is President Park meddling in?” Can you drop any more names? She pointedly glances over at Pan Suk as she says that people really don't know their place. She laughs again and just walks into the house, the servant pushing Pan Suk aside so he can bring in Ae Yun’s bags. Pan Suk and Dae Goo are insulted but can’t do anything about it. Pan Suk answers a phone call.

As Ae Yun climbs her stairs, she turns to her secretary and tells him to look into both of them, especially Dae Goo, the young boy who also came yesterday. He strangely gets on her nerves. You have no idea how much he’s going to annoy you.

Pan Suk enters Toad’s office. Toad slowly spins around in his chair, frown on his face. Did Pan Suk know that Madam Designer Bag case is related to Assemblyman Yoo Moon Bae? Pan Suk didn’t but Toad did. Madam Designer Bag is none other than Assemblyman Yoo's daughter! Pan Suk blinks and asks, “So?” Toad clarifies that he doesn’t want Pan Suk to turn it into a case, since it does no good to create a blemish on Moon Bae, who's a former police commissioner. Pan Suk asks if they contacted Toad personally about this. Toad tries to look imperial as he says that they didn’t. Pan Suk continues, saying that if that's the case, please be sure to relay this to them: If they want to take care of it quietly, show up at the station quietly and be questioned quietly. That's the quickest way to close it off quietly. Toad screams in frustration and tells Pan Suk to do as he says for once! Pan Suk doesn’t say anything, but bows and walks out with Toad yelling after that it’s an order!

Toad is now relaying all this to Chief. She’s shocked that Pan Suk didn’t even flinch. And you, for one, should be grateful, since it’s stuff like this that got Gangnam Station in trouble for corruption in the first place. The rich are not exempt from the law. Toad says that since it’s Soo Sun’s mother, Pan Suk’s going to get even more reckless. How come only these kinds of things happen to Team 3? Then he declares that things like this would only happen in a TV drama. A little meta humor, if you will… Not just any drama but a makjang drama! Chief puts her head in her hand like she has a headache. One of them is taken hostage, another is attacked because of an unsolved murder case, and now, the mother gets a hit. At this rate, if a birth secret comes out, this is a perfect makjang drama! Oh, you writers, giving a sneak peek of what’s coming… Chief tells Toad that he can leave now. Chief sighs at this mess that she has to deal with.

Media reports: “Madam Designer Bag video goes viral, angry netizens demand a thorough investigation.” “She turns out to be a corporate executive's wife.” Lawyer1 tells Moon Bae that the story has turned into such a hot topic, it’s going to be hard to suppress the media. For now, they're focusing on preventing the leakage of any information that would link him to Ae Yun. They were able to get the personal info and related search keywords deleted immediately from all portal sites. But the problem is with social networking services (SNS). While the major websites are blocking the video from being posted, but there's no way to stop the individual SNS posts.

Lawyer2 declares that people posting it will start decreasing drastically if Moon Bae sues them for defamation of character, but that could backfire and ruin his public image, so it would be better for him to wait until it quiets down. Sue for defamation of character? Then his name would part of legal record. And how is it defamation? It’s merely commenting on something that is obvious. And defamation is supposed to be intentional slander, where you’re out to hurt someone’s image intentionally and willfully and the intent is only to do that.

Chief enters her office again. The phone rings and it’s Moon Bae. She tries to pacify. Moon Bae declares that “that kid” came to his house yesterday. How could she let Dae Goo come to his house, Chief Kang! Chief apologizes and says that the victim in this case is the mother of one of Dae Goo’s team members. Moon Bae tells Chief that the only reason he left it in Chief’s hands is because she promised him that they would never meet. If Dae Goo keeps catching his attention like this, how is he going to be able to respect what she’s said? Chief says that she understands and that it won't happen again.

Chief hangs up and smacks a chair in frustration, declaring that it’s always Yoo Ae Yun who's causing all the problems. So why not bump her off? That would take care of everything. Chief declares that she barely managed to take care of Cho Hyung Chul's case and now there’s this? So she’s the one that sent the Thug that ran over Boots? That explains why he left when Dae Goo showed up. Probably had instructions not to hurt Dae Goo. Chief sighs, but you can tell she’s thinking.

Pan Suk’s driving in his car. He’s gone to visit Boots. That orange jumpsuit makes Boots look jaundiced. Pan Suk asks how he is and Boots answers that he’s adjusting. Why is Pan Suk there? Pan Suk says that he’s put in some food and allowance money for Boots. Aw. Boots looks a little verklempt. Pan Suk calls Boots “Hyung Chul” and says that no matter how much he thinks about it, it doesn’t feel like the case is over. Boots is definitely hiding something. Boots shifts uncomfortably. The fact that Boots came back to kill Ji Yong after being safely away in China and that someone tried to kill Boots. None of that makes sense. Boots just blinks at him.

Pan Suk wonders why Boots is hiding Detective Seo, particularly because Boots don't know anyone from Masan Police Department. Or does he? That’s a clue right there! Boots sighs. Pan Suk says that his intuition is telling him that the person who ordered Boots to kill Ji Yong after 11 years is not the company president but someone else who's still alive and still wants Ji Yong dead. Boots can’t hide his chuckle at how smart his old friend is. His eyes look a bit misty. But Boots doesn’t say anything.

Pan Suk asks Boots who he’s going so far to hide. Boots answers, saying that he has nothing to say. Pan Suk’s disappointed. Boots says that Kiddo (Dae Goo) also came there yesterday, but he declined the visitation. He’s going to decline Pan Suk’s visitation from now on, so Pan Suk shouldn’t back here. Pan Suk shouldn’t try to know. Which means that there *is* something to know! Pan Suk shouldn't inquire any more and not dig into it, either. That is what's good for everyone, if he doesn't want to put Kiddo in any more danger. He says that this is all he can do, from his heart. They look at each other and Boots gives Pan Suk a sad smile. He tells the guard that he’s finished.

As Boots starts to go, Pan Suk stands and says his name. He says that there is something he couldn't say to before because he was ashamed. His voice full of emotion, Pan Suk says he’s sorry (beanada) and thank you. Boots can hardly hold it together now. Pan Suk tells him that he’ll come back next time with delicious stuff. Boots leaves without a word.

Dae Goo is in the van, staking out Ae Yun’s house. Pan Suk comes back with goodies. He complains of the weather being hot, an inferno! A man after my own heart. And it has to be hot sitting in a car in summer with the windows rolled up. Pan Suk isn’t surprised when Dae Goo reports that she hasn’t come out yet. Pan Suk thinks about what Boots said about Dae Goo. He tells Dae Goo to turn on the air conditioning because Dae Goo looks hot. Dae Goo thinks that’s ridiculous. Who turns on the air conditioner during a stakeout? Dae Goo starts fanning himself as he says he’s fine. Pan Suk mutters, “What do you mean you're fine when you're sweating like that?” I wonder if Dae Goo would have been like that if Eung Do had suggested it. I can see him doing it with the gang, but not with Eung Do. But this is Pan Suk, so he has to be a butthead.

Pan Suk digs in his bag and offers Dae Goo one of his goodies. Dae Goo says that he’s not hungry. Pan Suk sighs because Dae Goo didn't even have breakfast. He puts it down beside Dae Goo. He offers Dae Goo a drink. Dae Goo replies that then he’d have to go to the bathroom. Pan Suk’s lips twitch as he suppresses an “Aish!” He puts the drink next to the food. Hey, Dae Goo, do you really think you’re going to be able to run after her if you have heat stroke?

Woman walks down the street fanning herself. Dae Goo is now eating the food and drinking the drink Pan Suk gave him. Pan Suk is dying. He suggests turning on the air conditioner temporarily for humane reasons. Dae Goo agrees and they try to get as close to the vents as possible. I am rolling. Pan Suk brings up Dae Goo’s visit to Boots, asking why he went. Instead of answering, Dae Goo asks Pan Suk why he went. Pan Suk retorts that he asked first. Dae Goo blinks and says that he doesn’t want to answer. Pan Suk mutters that Dae Goo is such an ass. And I am rolling, even harder. I had to stop the video for a moment to laugh. I wonder if anyone’s bothered to tell Dae Goo that before.

Dae Goo can’t believe Pan Suk called him out, but Pan Suk’s visit to Boots occupies his thoughts more. He asks Pan Suk why he went. Pan Suk’s about to give Dae Goo a talking to when there’s a knock on the window. Ae Yun’s Lawyer; he presents his card. Pan Suk takes a bite of his fish cake.

They go to a café. Lawyer slides over the Agreement that Mom signed. He tells Dae Goo that as he can see, she made a clear agreement and completed all legal procedures. He’s talking to Dae Goo like he’s a little kid. Lawyer says they can sue for defamation of character. Dae Goo is, of course, unfazed. And here’s where his law training comes in. Almost forgot that he studied to be a lawyer before he became a cop. Dae Goo says that Lawyer should know well that this agreement doesn't have any effectiveness as an agreement. Firstly, there is a critical clause missing: that the victim doesn't want the assailant not to be punished by law. Secondly– Lawyer interrupts to say that even if that clause is missing – he points to the monetary part – in regards to the large sum of $50,000, there's enough to imply her agreement. It doesn't matter. Um, anyone who knows legal agreements knows that it *does* matter. Implied is not legally binding. Please say that, Dae Goo. At least that’s how it works in America.

Lawyer says that the prosecution will probably say the same thing. Pan Suk mutters to himself as he takes his straw out of his drink and chugs some of his iced tea. I am so happy that they have iced tea in Korea!!! It’s the only thing besides water that I really drink. Dae Goo looks down at the agreement and continues. Secondly, before the assault, the fact that the Statement was coerced under pressure... Lawyer laughs and asks Dae Goo what he’s saying. This agreement was definitely drawn up after the assault. Oh my gosh! Wow. Now they’re going to argue he said-she said. Wow. They really need that witness testimony now. Lawyer declares that there was no coercion. Pan Suk sighs, frustrated. Lawyer smiles.

Dae Goo asks Lawyer what kind of game he’s trying to play right now. The agreement was drawn up first and the assault occurred afterwards! Lawyer says, No, it didn’t happen that way. Wow, who did they pay off? Lawyer says that they have witnesses. The employees from the VIP room at the department store. Lawyer is quite smug as he repeats his version of the facts. Pan Suk nods and says that if that's the case, he and his team will also procure witnesses and reveal Lawyer’s false claims for certain. Lawyer smiles and shrugs and looks at Pan Suk, telling him to bring it on. Pan Suk smiles and drinks his iced tea again.

Pan Suk and Dae Goo are leaving the café. Pan Suk’s on the phone with Eung Do, telling him that unless they can get witnesses for this incident, they'll have to close the entire case. Dae Goo stops to use their messaging group to tell Gook that they have to quickly find the person who first circulated the video no matter what.

Ae Yun is at the driving range. Lawyer Kim calls. She snaps at him to take care of the person who first circulated the video and hangs up on him. Aigoo, so tiresome. Really.

Gook reports to the group app that the original circulator will soon be found since they’re narrowing down the IDs. Eung Do is giving the cleaning ladies something to drink and asking them for the inside scoop on Ae Yun. Tae Il’s tackling all the girls who are swooning over how cute he is. Does she tend to be friendly? We see them leaving the mall and Eung Do giving Tae Il a favorable punch in the shoulder. Eung Do’s voiceover reports that out of the 3 VIP employees, 2 are keeping their mouths shut. Ms. Kim Jin Kyung, age 29, quit after that afternoon. She might be the one who recorded the video. Smart to quit. Smart. Dae Goo and Gook hurry over to the girl’s apartment.

They almost miss Jin Kyung, who has her head down and covered with a ball cap and has her suitcase with her. But Dae Goo sees through the ball cap of invisibility – since he used to wear one, it makes him immune – and stops her. They go back to her apartment. She says she has nothing to say. She just gets annoyed whenever that Madam comes to the store, so she uploaded it out of anger. It became bigger than she thought it would, so she took down the video. Dae Goo says he’ll only ask one thing. That day, they wrote the agreement first, then she was assaulted, right? Jin Kyung frowns and says she didn’t see. Dae Goo tells her that they have to confirm this part in order to hold Yoo Ae Yun responsible for the crime.

Jin Kyung snaps at Dae Goo, asking him why he’s doing this just to her? There are other people, too! Ah, I’m getting flashbacks to the Ajumma that witnessed the murder. Dae Goo says that Jin Kyung saw how unfairly Oma was treated that day. He called her Oma. Aw! He pulls out his phone and says that this is what she recorded. Thanks to her, everyone got to know about it. Jin Kyung looks scared as she tells Dae Goo to get rid of it. Dae Goo apologizes and says that he wasn't doing it to bother her. Gook laughs and says that they are absolutely not doing that. With one word from her, all people who have been wronged will be revealed.

Jin Kyung stands up and yells at them that she doesn’t want to talk about it! From the beginning, she meant to humiliate that Madam. Do they think she uploaded it out of empathy? How much that ajumma got hit, or whether she drew up the agreement before or after *doesn't matter,* so get out immediately! Dae Goo gets indignant. She has to say a single word. Is it so hard to say? If she didn’t want to be involved, then she shouldn't have uploaded it from the beginning. Doesn’t she care at all about the victim's suffering? Gook plays the Eung Do role and tells Dae Goo to calm down. Jin Kyung replies that she said that it doesn't matter to her, so get out immediately, or she’ll call the police!

Dae Goo and Gook leave the building. Dae Goo is frustrated. Gook asks him why he suddenly got so mad like that. Gook tells him not to worry and they’ll come back tomorrow.

Chief’s at the hospital. Soo Sun comes out to meet her. Chief claims that she doesn’t go in because she doesn't want to make Mom uncomfortable. I think it’s because she doesn’t want any witnesses. After a little small talk, Chief says she’s there for a favor. Soo Sun says to ask away. Chief says that Soo Sun’s not going to understand why she’s asking this and it will be really difficult… but Soo Sun needs to bury Mom’s case. Chief mentions Yoo Moon Bae and how Ae Yun is his daughter. If this truth is found out, Assemblyman Yoo's political career will also be harmed, and the police station will face many difficult issues. Wow, way to majorly guilt her out.

Chief adds that although she can't reveal the reason, if they push this incident, people, especially the people precious to her, might get hurt. Soo Sun asks why they would. Chief smiles almost sadly and says that this is why she said from the beginning that it’ll be a reason she’ll never understand. Chief says to trust her when she says it's the best option to prevent even bigger problems. For everyone's sake.

Soo Sun can’t understand what Chief’s saying. Mom was brutally beaten up, to the extent that Soo Sun wasn't even able to look at her properly. And Chief wants her to just cover it up? Even though she’s Assemblyman Yoo Moon Bae's daughter, she shouldn't assault a person like that. Chief says that she agrees but she’s not asking you to cover this up for that woman but for the sake of our police station's future, for our organization. No, it’s for YOUR sake. Does Soo Sun understand?

Soo Sun goes back inside. She comes upon Dae Goo with Mom. He’s trying to do a magic trick and failing. Aw, Ji Yong. Dae Goo consults his instructions and then asks Mom to blow into it once please. She does and he does. Then he declares that he’ll make her a pretty necklace. He performs the trick and it works. Mom is amazed and Dae Goo laughs. Dae Goo gives her the necklace. Soo Sun can’t help but really smile at how kind Dae Goo is and how happy Mom is.

Later, Soo Sun and Dae Goo walk together outside. She asks why he’s there, since she thought he'd be busy investigating. He replies that he should, but honestly, he messed up. Aw, Dae Goo’s being humble. I love Ji Yong. He tells Soo Sun that he found the originator of the video. While trying to persuade her, he got mad and let his emotions get the better of him. He tells Soo Sun he’s sorry. Soo Sun smiles and says that there’s no need to be sorry since he was earnest about it. Rather, she should be thankful. Tell your pah-te-nuh what Chief said! Tell him!

Soo Sun sighs and says that it’s nice to be breathing fresh air. She wonders if it’s going to rain. Dae Goo can’t tell. Soo Sun asks Dae Goo how he endured it. Even two days are this difficult for her. Dae Goo looks over at her. Soo Sun says that every time she sees Mom's swollen face, her chest burns. But then she remembers what he went through. How could Ji Yong have endured this difficulty? Dae Goo says that he didn't endure it. He just dealt with it. And that part gets me. They look at each other. Dae Goo tells her that something that has to be dealt with will be dealt with, sooner or later. You just deal with it without being a crybaby. Soo Sun tells him that he’s like an oppa when he’s like this. Your oppa.

Awkward moment. Dae Goo holds out an mp3 player and tells her to listen to it. It helped him. She says she’ll listen to it well. Dae Goo tells her that she has to listen to it. For sure. Aw. He made you a mix tape. I wonder what’s on it… She says she will and tells him to get going. Without telling him what Chief said! Annoyed! Dae Goo goes.

Soo Sun starts to go inside but stops and puts on the headphones. The song, soft, gentle, says:

What a good song.

Police Station. Someone searches under ‘Madame Bag.’ It’s Gook and Tae Il. Eung Do marvels at the number of articles and not even a letter of Yoo Moon Bae’s name is here. He’s amazed at how they can do that. Tae Il says that they must be under an embargo. Embargo is defined for the audience. I love that Korean TV does that. Gook mutters to himself that he should be comforting Soo Sun right now. He wonders if she ate. He decides to message her. Using that app again. But I’m wondering if it’s a private message. Gook asks her and tells her she has to eat well when you're working. Then he asks Baekseolgi – now Tae Il’s nickname, meaning white rice cake – which emoticon to use with the message. And some of those emoticons are creepy. Gook sends off the message and immediately sees that it sent the wrong emoticon. Tae Il teases him that Gook’s expression is the same as the emoticon.

Tae Il gets a call. He rolls his eyes, annoyed.

Now Tae Il’s waiting for Sa Kyung by her apartment. Tae Il has beer. She goes and sits by him. He tells her that his father called him trash like his hyung. He tells her that since she’s the only person he’s talked about hyung, he thought of her. Sa Kyung mentions how he told her that stuff because they weren’t going to see each other again. He agrees; he was just a tourist who coincidentally met her while traveling. But still, Tae Il says that he received healing when he talked about hyung. Sa Kyung says that she’s happy to hear that. She asks if he’s okay. He says that he’s not. Wow, he doesn’t tell anyone about this stuff. Let your family (the gang) in!

Tae Il asks Sa Kyung for a hug – for humanity’s sake. She laughs and even though he tries to play it off, she agrees and gives him a mom hug. And Pan Suk catches them. Tae Il looks up at sees Pan Suk, who motions for him to go on with the hug. Because he doesn’t realize it’s Sa Kyung. Then Sa Kyung turns around. Busted. Pan Suk had brought food. He almost drops it in shock, because she’s hooking up with someone else. She runs after him, telling him to wait. He tells her that they should talk later. By his face, he’s wearing the same expression he had on last time when she had one of her boy toys. Poor Pan Suk.

Sa Kyung asks him *when* are they going to talk later. He snaps that he said let's talk later! Aish! Sa Kyung’s not going to let this go. She tells him that when he says 'let's talk later', it eventually means he’s not going to talk at all. He looks at her, hurt, with a face that says, ‘how can you be doing this to me?’ Sa Kyung says that she still hasn’t heard why he signed the divorce papers. Pan Suk huffs because he can’t believe she said that considering what he just witnessed and she looks at him with a pleading look on her face.

High rise. Ae Yun gets off the elevator to go into a fitness club. Dae Goo is there. He tells Ae Yun that he wants her to attend the trial as a witness for Madame Bag. She just scoffs at him and walks by. She’s changed into her workout clothes, and it’s obvious that people know her by how they greet her. Dae Goo’s there in the club. I laugh. Dae Goo tells haughty Ae Yun that if she doesn't have time, she can cooperate with the investigation right there. Would she prefer that? Ae Yun glares at him and Dae Goo isn’t afraid. He asks if she needs need time to think. She screams for the Manager. He hurries over and she yells at him for how he’s doing his job. She walks away and Dae Goo calls after her that he’ll wait. She rolls her eyes and can’t believe his behavior. And I can't believe *her* behavior.

Ae Yun calls her assistant and asks him what he found out about Dae Goo. She orders it brought to her immediately. Now Ae Yun's in a restaurant. Assistant brings it and leaves and we see Dae Goo waiting outside. She thinks to herself that as she keeps seeing him, he looks very familiar. Why is she feeling unpleasant? She opens the package and scans through *Pan Suk’s* biographical data. Then she picks up Dae Goo’s biographical data. The part that gets her attention is where it says Dae Goo’s real name is 'Kim Ji Yong'… 'Masan Nurse Murder Case'… Changed name to ' Eun Dae Goo' after his mother's death. Plot thickening music plays and then the dramatic theme plays as she looks at a picture of Ji Yong. It’s a news article that says, “After his mother, who is a nurse in a high school, passed away suddenly, Kim Ji Yong left his house and is still missing.”

Ae Yun is about to hyperventilate. She picks up the phone and calls Moon Bae. She asks him if he knew? She gasps “That girl's son... is alive.” Holy crap! Moon Bae jumps out of his seat, freaking out that Ae Yun now knows the truth about things. And Dae Goo waits outside the restaurant.

Thoughts

Holy crap! She knew about Ji Yong! After that revelation sinks in… now I’m wondering – based on what Chief muttered about her always causing the problems – wondering if Ae Yun, with her bobbed hair, is the one who killed Oma. It actually gives a really plausible explanation on how it happened. I was wondering what Chief’s motive would be for it, since it seemed a little strange that they would come after Oma after all that time. But I can see this:
Ae Yun found out about Ji Yong and went to confront Oma. She wants Oma to leave the country, because Ji Yong is the heir as the eldest son. Oma refuses. She’s not going to be bullied. She tells Ae Yun to get out. Entitled Ae Yun, who has never had to pay a consequence a day in her life, grabs the vase and smashes it over Oma’s head. Then she freaks because Oma is dying. She runs out, dropping the necklace/pendant – and it’s an expensive necklace at that, and this explains why she could afford it – and notices it missing after she left. That’s why Boots went back for it. And Daddy told her that Ji Yong had been taken care of. Whoa! What a cliff hanger!
And Moon Bae’s freaking because, like Chief said, Ae Yun always screws things up. She’s going to act fishy which will get Dae Goo’s attention.

I love Son and Father’s reactions, though, because they are so unsympathetic towards her behavior. Father’s reaction is interesting, because he has no compassion for his wife. And if I’m right about Dae Goo being his son, I think that that was the final straw for him with her. He sent away the woman he loved to appease her and then Oma ends up dead and *his son* ends up missing and/or dead. (I wonder what Father and Son’s dynamic is like, given how withdrawn Father is from the family.) One thing I am really glad for: than Ae Yun is Moon Bae’s daughter, rather than wife. That would just be too much, that Moon Bae is ordering his own son’s execution. (Not that it’s any less despicable, but there’s a special despicableness to killing your progeny as compared to killing someone you’re not related to, because you’re supposed to look out for family, especially your children.)

I’m really hoping that Son decides to help Dae Goo out and they get closer before Son finds out that Dae Goo is his brother. Plus, I hope that Father gets some backbone once he realizes that Ae Yun had his son, Ji Yong, killed (or tried to). I hope that Father ends up standing up to Moon Bae and giving the guy a heart attack and standing over his body and telling the old man to rot in hell. Wow… I didn’t realize that I was that vengeful about it. But, after all, Toad said that this drama had all the makings of a makjang drama. Heh.

I’m really liking how they are playing Ae Yun as so unlikeable. She really is a spoiled teenager in a forty-something’s body. Completely unlikable. She dares to show no respect for the police (or anyone else for that matter). And it seems like she only humors Daddy because he’ll cut off her expense account if she doesn’t. She just goes along with her life like no one can touch her. Son doesn’t seem to like her much either. (I’ll be glad when we know his name.) It’s really obvious that Ae Yun has been doing stuff like this for years and Daddy has cleaned it up for her.

The thing that kills me is that Chief is talking about how it will make the police look bad – since Moon Bae is the former police commissioner – when in reality, it would go a long was to making the police force look like they’re committed to not being corrupt. Not playing politics and going after someone so connected says that you’re serious about making everyone equal under the eyes of the law. And it shows that they’ll keep on rooting out corruption, no matter how long it takes. But, of course, Chief is twisting things because she doesn’t want her part in it to be exposed. (What is her part in it? And Boots? I know there’s more to the story. Plus, hallelujah, Chief isn’t the one who killed Oma.)

I still believe that Chief’s trying – in her own way – to protect Dae Goo. (Why am I such a sucker for the idea that love can conquer all?) I just hope that Soo Sun *talks* to Dae Goo so that he can go and ream out Chief for even suggesting such a thing.

I can’t believe that they’re going to pay off people and argue that Mom signed the document *after*. The case really will be dead in the water if Jin Kyung doesn’t testify. Soo Sun needs to go talk to her, pull on her heartstrings. Hopefully, that will get Jin Kyung to come around.

Even though the lawyer is arguing that it was signed after and that the understanding of no criminal charges to be pressed was implied in the document, I really hope that they get it in front of a jury, because I can guarantee that no jury’s going to buy that. At least I hope not, considering how smug the lawyer and Ae Yun is. If it was me on the jury, I’d be disinclined to believe their story if I saw Ae Yun being so haughty. Plus the video.

Yay for Pan Suk for being Pan Suk and not caring *who* the criminal is or related to. And loved the bromance moments and Pan Suk telling Dae Goo that he’s an ass. Because Dae Goo is acting like that. I love that Pan Suk’s not afraid to keep it real, even as he gives Dae Goo latitude for everything that happened to him. Also loved Eung Do’s ‘Aish’ when Dae Goo was being a butthead and jumping to conclusions instead of letting Pan Suk finish.

Pan Suk’s conversation with Boots was interesting, too, because I’m still trying to really see where Boots is coming from. I think that Boots warned Pan Suk because Pan Suk cares about Dae Goo and could end up hurt/burned by the whole thing, again, like Boots was back in the day. He doesn’t want his friend – because in spite of trying to be unhuman, he still has a heart in there and cares about Pan Suk – to end up hurt. Plus, I also think that he’s come to like Dae Goo, because of Dae Goo’s guts.

Seeing how much Soo Sun hurts for Mom is heart wrenching, too. That song they played was perfect, for both of them. It speaks so much to Dae Goo’s situation and to hers. And it’s like Dae Goo is singing to her. (It’s not Lee Seung Gi, though. That would have really been meta.) I like how Dae Goo is really pulling her into his heart, which is awesome, since it lets Ji Yong’s vulnerability come out. The pair needs to kiss again soon – and it looks like they might, given the preview (even if it is coerced because they’re undercover).

And speaking of the romance part of the show – how about that bomb shell on Pan Suk’s heart? I totally get how he could interpret what he saw, since he watched her do it more than once before. I just hope they talk it out so this is a minor bump. And so Tae Il isn’t tortured in the squad room because Pan Suk is jealous. Maybe we’re closer to finding out about hyung, too.

How about Mom declaring that she’s Ji Yong’s mom now, too? That just shows how awesome and compassionate she is. (Not that he wasn’t going to become that in the future, when he and Soo Sun get married, but) it’s so sweet that she saw that need and jumped to fill it for him. I loved how Dae Goo got to feel the love some more. The way that he’s really embracing what he’s been longing for – eating vegetables when he hates them to comfort Soo Sun, doing a magic trick for Mom to encourage her – just warms my heart and makes me love him even more.
