Warm and Cozy Episode 16 Recap

Why couldn’t we get to this point about 2 episodes ago? So we could have more Gun Woo and Jung Joo together action?

Our last episode begins with Gun Woo and Jung Joo sitting at a table. With orange juice, of course. Gun Woo looks like he’s scowling. She asks him – gleeful almost – if he missed her that much. How much did he cry every day because he missed her so much? She is enjoying tormenting him too much. Hee. Gun Woo looks at her and says, “Who said I cried?” He’s got to keep his pride, after all. The crying part’s unmanly. She asks him if he doesn’t remember this part. Imitating him, she says, 'Jung Joo, I miss you so much.' Gun Woo shifts in his chair – because he knows he would have done that and that means she knows now, too. She smiles and says that he cried as he said that. He looks at her, hating how she’s enjoying tormenting him. Maybe you won’t do it to her the next time you’re tempted.

Jung Joo smiles and playfully pokes him in the arm as she says that she did him a favor by catching him. He gives her an ‘aigoo’ and then asks if she knows why he couldn’t leave. She didn't just like him. He heard that she completely fell for him from the moment she saw him. He did not just do that. So wrong. He couldn’t possibly ignore that. Jung Joo doesn’t get what he’s referring to (him being her first love). She says – in that smug way that both of them get when they think that they have the upper hand – that if the terminal illness incident didn't happen, she wouldn't have liked him that much. And I actually think it’s true – because he used her several times when they first met and killed off the dreamlike prince.

Gun Woo tells her that that’s such a lie. What about 'the dreamlike prince riding on a dark horse'? Jung Joo horrified that she’s busted. Did he... meet with Min Ah? At least I won’t call her Friend anymore. I could not remember the woman’s name. Gun Woo says that that’s right! Han Byeol's mom told him everything! Jung Joo starts to chew on her thumb and Gun Woo lists it: First love, idealistic, prince! She thought he was such an amazing man, so he couldn't just leave her be.

Now sounding a little smug too – Gun Woo says that he thought hard about whether or not to show up on a horse. She corrects his impression. The image of her dreamlike first love prince was completely shattered ever since she met him again on Jeju Island. He leans in a little and says that she planned all this from the beginning, didn't she? What? That's why she told him: 'You better become a son of a bitch. I'll come to you.' Oh, that’s what he’s talking about. Heh.

Jung Joo smiles and, as she pats him on the arm, tells him to be thankful that she took him in. I love it when they’re both being smug. Heh. Gun Woo huffs and says that if her ideal type was a son of a bitch, he should've stuck with that concept. He straightens his jacket – like he’s patting himself on the back – and says that he’s been leading such an upstanding life these days. Jung Joo scoffs. Upstanding life? him? He answers by asking how she thinks he’s led his life this past year? I think you’ve been drifting and in the past, that meant doing nothing and getting into trouble with betting on horse races so that Hyung had to cut you off.

Dead Face Harpy tells Noona that if Gun Woo keeps this up, he’ll be able to inherit his uncle's business. So he hasn’t been being a slacker. Side note: groan. I was hoping that we’d seen the last of Dead Face Harpy in the last episode. Noona smiles, pleased, as she says that she did hear about that from Uncle. She had no idea that Gun Woo would do such a good job. Noona asks if that’s why Dead Face Harpy stayed by Gun Woo's side. No, it’s because she’s selfish and he’s comfortable. Dead Face Harpy says that she had big expectations thinking that Gun Woo would become someone that she wanted. But he never gave her any room. Aw, go Gun Woo!

Noona smiles and says that she understands. Noona changes the subject to Dead Face Harpy’s marriage. A repeat of what we heard last time: Dead Face Harpy says that he’s Gun Woo’s friend and the heir to Youngseok Group.

Switch to Sohn Joon Hee, Gun Woo's friend. He’s meeting Jung Joo. He seems very happy to meet Jung Joo – like maybe Gun Woo’s talked about her with him. Gun Woo looks really pleased at what an awesome girlfriend he has – and she is awesome. Gun Woo says that they should sit. Dead Face Harpy is there, too. Groan.

Dead Face Harpy immediately announces that Joon Hee is heir to Youngseok Group. Does she do that whenever they meet new people? What does Joon Hee see in her? Joon Hee tells Jung Joo that, whenever she has time, she has to come visit Manjae Island with Gun Woo. Dead Face Harpy chimes in that Joon Hee has a really big villa there. She’s looking like she’s really proud of her fiancé, which is good. Although it seems to be about his money and not about him. Joon Hee says that he’d like to treat Jung Joo to Chef Cha's cooking. It's amazing. Jung Joo says that they’ll definitely go when they get a chance.

Gun Woo says that he heard they found a wedding venue. Joon Hee says that he likes the green barley field, but it'll be hard for his Ji Won to wait until the green barley season next year. Of course it would be. Can’t let him lose his love goggles. She smiles at him and looks down – and this looks like some genuine modesty. Never thought I’d see that. She’s good. Joon Hee says that they’ve decided on the sunflower field. Gun Woo asks Ji Won is she’s really going to be okay with holding a wedding in a field? And having her honeymoon on Manjae Island? She should tell him no if she doesn't like it. She’s still smiling, but her face says that he should stop talking. But because Gun Woo did it right now, I’m think that he’s actually helping Ji Won not be Dead Face Harpy by getting her to be honest instead playing Joon Hee like an Oppa. Or maybe he just likes torturing her. Heh.

Joon Hee looks at Ji Won with puppy dog eyes and asks if she doesn't want an outdoor wedding? Does she not like Manjae Island because she has to take a long boat ride? Wow, he’s really milking the puppy dog. Then Ji Won breaks out into full-on Oppa girl. Overdoing it, Ji Won says that’s not at all how she feels! She loves it! She can change everything about herself for Joon Hee! Gun Woo can’t believe that and laughs with disbelief. Jung Joo’s a little speechless, too.

The girls run into each other at the bathroom sinks. Jung Joo decides to says something. Jung Joo says that she didn't think Ji Won was the type who likes having a wedding on a field. Ji Won says that she’ll do anything for him. He's the heir to Youngseok Group. She says that she doesn't regret following behind Gun Woo. Thanks to him, she met Joon Hee. Jung Joo’s surprised. Ji Won followed Gun Woo? But she’s not asking because she feels threatened. She asks if Ji Won knows how Gun Woo has been doing?

Ji Won is surprised that Jung Joo doesn’t know. He's been working at his uncle's company. It’s a food distribution business. Uncle has a base in Hong Kong and is growing his business in China. I wonder if that’s why Gun Woo decided to change his flight plans, because he talked to his uncle. Jung Joo asks if Gun Woo is involved in some kind of business. Ji Won says that Uncle doesn't have children so he wants to leave the business to Gun Woo. Jung Joo looks a little worried now. But I don’t think it’s the prospect of becoming a chaebol heir’s wife. It’s more that they’re not going to go back to life at the Warm and Cozy.

Ji Won throws her paper towel away and asks if it’s becoming more real to Jung Joo now. She might have taken him lightly since he went to harvest conches. But Gun Woo is – Dead Face Harpy pretends to think – way out of her league. Jung Joo asks, like she doesn’t want the answer, “A dreamlike prince?” Ji Won thinks that’s the perfect phrase. A dreamlike prince. Dead Face Harpy just doesn’t quit. Dead Face Harpy saunters out of the bathroom and Jung Joo sags, deflated, to lean on the sink counter.

Jong Bae is on the phone. Hae Shil enters – without knocking – to hear him tell Caller to please tell President Jin that his son left. Jong Bae says that he hoped that he'd restore his honor to his son. But he doesn't think it's necessarily a good thing. Hae Shil stopped moving at the mention of President Jin. Jong Bae asks that Caller please tell President Jin that he will also keep his mouth shut. Hearing the name again, Hae Shil goes over to him, obviously not happy.

Jong Bae hangs up and jumps when he sees her. She asks if the President Jin he was speaking of... was it Jin Tae Yong?

Switch to Hae Shil by their pool (‘their’ since she’s married to Hyung now). She’s trying to deal with the news.

Flashback to the conversation we were just watching. Who's... whose son? Jong Bae stutters a lot as he says that President Jin's son is – he can hardly get the name out – Baek Gun Woo. Hae Shil is understandably shaken. So that's why he's been avoiding me. Both brothers knew about it...but they hid the truth from her. Jong Bae protests that they kept it a secret because she might have a hard time if she found out. Obviously hurt, Hae Shil asks why *Jong Bae* kept quiet. Jong Bae protests, more loudly, that it was crazy nonsense! She didn't need to hear that!

Hae Shil snaps at him, asking if she should go ask Baek Gun Woo right now? Jong Bae doesn’t want her to do that because Hyung doesn't know anything. Jong Bae only told Baek Gun Woo that his father might not be the murderer. Hae Shil asks who killed her late husband. Jong Bae realizes he said too much, but he has to answer. The woman President Jin used to love. He stutters as he says Baek Se Young.

Hae Shil in the present. Two great portraits from their wedding. She picks up Mom’s picture. I can only imagine what she’s thinking. I’d want to smash it into a 1,000 pieces and never have it in my room again. Mom looks so smug and full of herself in it. Hae Shil spots one of Hyung’s hidden presents. She looks at both things.

Hyung appears and asks if Hae Shil found one. He’s smiling as he comes toward her. She found the one he hid behind his mother's picture. It was easy to find, wasn't it? She looks at the picture as Hyung tells her to consider it as a gift from his late mother. That made me a little sick to my stomach.

Hae Shil asks if Hyung really didn’t know? Hyung asks about what. Hae Shil replies that he must not have. Realizing her mood, Hyung gets worried. Stepping forward to put his hand on her arm, he asks what’s wrong. Hae Shil steps back so he doesn’t touch her. Her face tells him not to try it again. He asks if he did something wrong? She says that he didn't do anything wrong... but she really hates him. Hyung asks if Hae Shil found out that Gun Woo has returned; is that why she’s upset? Because he lied to her?

Knowing that it’s so much more than that, Hae Shil says, “Fine. Why did you lie to me?” Hyung apologizes and says that he didn't know that she’d be so upset, so he didn't tell her that Gun Woo was back. Tears in her throat now, Hae Shil says that Gun Woo has such a hard time facing her, she has no choice. She walks out of the room. Hyung wonders how he's going to fix this.

The great thing about that scene was how Hyung was so humble when he was caught. He cared more about Hae Shil’s feelings than his own pride. That’s pretty awesome.

Gun Woo and Jung Joo are walking, holding hands – sqwee! – at the resort. Dead Face Harpy and Joon Hee aren’t there, so they must be done with their meeting. Jung Joo asks about Joon Hee. Is he one of those so-called second generation rich guys? Gun Woo says that he is, but he’s not second generation, he’s third. She says that now that she thinks about it, he's friends with people like him and the younger brother of the resort owner here. Dead Face Harpy had her reasons for having her eye on him.

He knows something’s not right. Gun Woo stops walking and asks if Jung Joo talked with Dead Face Harpy about something. She says that she heard he worked at his uncle's company. Gun Woo smiles, shaking his head, and says that he can guess what Ji Won said to her. Did she say that he had management training? Jung Joo’s face says that it’s worse than she thought. Heh. Management training? Then is he becoming someone like Joon Hee? Gun Woo asks if she’s jealous of Ji Won? Should he become someone like Joon Hee? He sighs and magnanimously says that if that's what Lee Jung Joo wants, he’ll do it then.

Jung Joo totally doesn’t get that Gun Woo isn’t interested in working at his Uncle’s company. Jung Joo tells him not to tell her to make such a burdensome decision. Gun Woo asks if she doesn't want it. He shouldn't do it? Then... – pretends to think for a second – he won't. Jung Joo is tortured because she doesn’t want him to have to give that up. She mutters that it’s not… she can't say… She starts to rub her neck because of the tension. Gun Woo isn’t tense at all.

Gun Woo gets a call from Hyung. Hyung wants to see him. Jung Joo pleasantly tells him to go. He says that he’ll be right back. She grabs his arm and tells him to take his time with Hyung. She met with Hae Shil – she corrects herself – his sister-in-law. Hae Shil wanted her to tell him that she wants to talk through things with him. Gun Woo reveals nothing as he asks, “She did?” Jung Joo asks if that’s the reason he left without saying anything? He looks like he wants to say something, but doesn’t.

Jung Joo smiles at him softly and says that in case he’s hurting because of that, she’ll stay by his side. That makes Gun Woo smile. She smiles back. Because she’s awesome and he’s glad she’s his. She tells him to go to Hyung. She’ll get home on her own. He goes. Aw, you should have given her a kiss on the cheek before you did.

Gun Woo is sitting with Hyung. Hyung says that Hae Shil saw that he came without calling ahead, so Hyung can't just tell her that he left without a word. I sigh. Hyung is still trying to keep the secret instead of telling her like he decided to the day before. He says that they should just say hello like they did at the wedding. Gun Woo agrees.

Hyung apologizes and says that he can't lie to Hae Shil or keep his expressions in check with her. Gun Woo says that's why they can only hide the truth if they run into each other as little as possible. Hyung says that they shouldn’t run into each other. He’ll go to Japan, so Gun Woo can stay there if he wants to. Gun Woo’s face says that he’s bothered by that, like the secret of Dad keeps making Hyung’s life difficult.

Hyung says – and I find it interesting that both of them are sitting with their fingers interlaced – that he heard from Secretary Jang that Lee Jung Joo is very special to him. Shaking his finger at Gun Woo, Hyung orders him not to leave her behind. Hyung will leave this time.

Gun Woo sits at the entrance to the hotel. He looks burdened and like he’s been there a long time. Hae Shil walks up – and her shoes are really loud on the stones – and Gun Woo gets up to greet her. He is a lot taller than her! He bows respectfully. She looks at him. And her face is full of many things. His expression is apologetic, but it’s not meant to be. She sees it, too. Hesitantly, he says that he’s been waiting... to say hello. Hae Shil doesn’t say anything, just looks at him.

Gun Woo can’t look her in the eye any longer. He smiles, uncomfortable, and looks away. Returning to look at her, he pleasantly tells her to please go inside. He’s going to stay here for a few days. Hae Shil looks like she wants to cry – but not for herself. He bows again and Hae Shil looks down. He walks away.

Jong Bae is meeting with Dad. So Gun Woo asking to see him, doesn’t get him to come, but knowing that Hae Shil knows now does. That’s a little messed up, Dad. He says that it must've been a big shock to Hae Shil. She asked for time to think without saying anything else. Dad asks if it looked like she believed him. Jong Bae says that it did. He adds that he didn't know things would turn out this way. Dad says that he wants to meet with her, so Jong Bae should ask her. Which right there tells me he’s a good man. A selfish person would just appear in front of her without asking her permission.

Jung Joo has set up a table in their room. It’s got a vase with a pink rose in it – just like the one he got her, aw – wine and some glasses, and a candle that she’s lit. Even though she has no idea when he’s going to arrive, she’s lit the candle. She sprays some perfume in the air and dabs some on herself. She sighs happily and thinks that Gun Woo will like this, won't he? Then she worries if it’s all too obvious. She shakes her head and says that bidding each other good night and being coy is being obvious.

Switch to Jung Joo in a face mask – candle’s still burning – and telling herself that she’s a woman in a relationship. She should put one on every night and take care of her skin. Even though he fell in love with you when you *weren’t* doing that…

She only sits there a minute before she wonders when Gun Woo’s coming. Is his conversation with Hyung running late?

Much later – Jung Joo’s mask is coming off on its own and she’s falling asleep sitting up. Jung Joo jerks awake and looks at the time: it's half past midnight. She tells herself that she’s not sleepy. She calls him. Switch to Gun Woo in his hotel room. He sounds like he’s in a good mood as he answers. So why didn’t he go over there? I thought that was the plan. Sounding half asleep, she asks when he’s coming. He asks if she was waiting up for him? What do you think? You’re supposed to come back to the Warm and Cozy now.

Jung Joo nods her answer. Which Gun Woo must have seen through the phone. He asks if she didn’t mean 'See you tomorrow' when she said she was going home earlier. Jung Joo immediately pretends like that’s *exactly* what she meant. Now really awkward, she says that, of course! She wouldn't have asked him to come there at such a late hour. Of course she meant, 'See you tomorrow.' She tells him ‘good night’ and hurries off the phone.

Gun Woo looks at his hand phone and gives it a ‘ya!’ He can’t believe that she just hung up. She’s so confusing! Back at the Warm and Cozy, Jung Joo is mortified. She came across too eager. Gun Woo calls back. Reluctantly she answers it and cheerily says, “Yes.” Gun Woo tells her that they should forget the last call. Should he head over there now? Boy, he sounds a little eager. Hee. Still embarrassed, Jung Joo tells him to forget it. Why would he come there? Did he think she was waiting for him? Gun Woo is confused. Wasn’t she waiting for him? She says she wasn’t. Really? She practically yells that she wasn’t! He says that he thought maybe she lit a candle and was waiting up for him. Does he know his girl, or what?

Jung Joo sputters, “What candle?” Like she didn’t light one. She leans over and blows it out. To negate it’s existence. Gun Woo says he thought that she might have put on makeup and perfume. He wondered if the seductress vampire might have awoken. She protests that it’s not true! He’s totally mistaken. She waves at the air to get rid of the perfume.

Gun Woo says that he’s really disappointed. When she said that she was going home earlier, he really held himself back and stayed away. He thought she was calling because she couldn't fight the urge. Jung Joo replies, “What do you mean? I'm very good at resisting the urge.” Which means that she just admitted that she *had* it. Oops. Heh. She realizes what she did and gets really awkward. She says that she was about to go to sleep because she’s really tired. Yes. Good night. She hangs up again, mortified.

Gun Woo gives his phone another ‘ya!’ He sighs. When she hangs up does she really think he’s going to get a good night's sleep? Who does she take him for? He taps his phone – like he’s rapping her forehead.

Jung Joo is groaning with mortification. If she’s possessed by a lecherous devil, she shouldn't make it so obvious at least. She leans over on the bed and beats her pillow.

Gun Woo arrives. What is with flipping up his collars? They did it on his jacket how and it looks like they’re wings. Just stop, please! Jung Joo’s asleep. He chuckles. He goes and sits on her bed. He sees the wine, grapes, cheese and tells himself that he’s too late. He should've come right over. In her sleep, Jung Joo says his name and hugs her pillow. He smiles, lightly pats her pillow and tells her to sleep tight. He has no choice but to leave again. Or, you could go sleep in your bed. That’s a thought. And would be most appropriate for tormenting her in the morning. He tells her not to hold back in the future either. He smiles again and covers her with her blanket. He goes.

Next day, Jung Joo is furiously wiping a dish. She should say that she never expected him to come over. Like he’d believe that. She’ll say it's not true! Gun Woo arrives – and the door doesn’t jingle. Did they get rid of it? He spots her furiously scrubbing that plate and laughs. He starts to go surprise her, but Poong San spots him. He hasn’t left? What happened? Reluctantly, Gun Woo acts like he wants to have conversation. And I laugh. He says that it's because of Jung Joo. He couldn't leave because he didn't think he’d be able to go on without her. Aw. Jung Joo’s encouraged, too.

Poong San can’t believe it. All his matchmaking finally worked. Then they’re... Smiling, Gun Woo says that they’re going out. Spread the word around town. He gives Poong San another smile and the boy can hardly stop smiling at his hyung.

Gun Woo goes over to Jung Joo. She pretends to be indifferent. He sits next to her – instead of across from her – and smiles fondly. Cutesy, he asks if she slept well. Of course. She notes that he’s there early. He says it’s because he missed her. She likes that, but act like she doesn’t. She changes the subject and says that, in case he got the wrong idea, she really wasn't waiting up for him last night.

Gun Woo acts like he believes her. Really? So he didn't have to expect anything? Jung Joo says, “Of course!” It's only been a day since they started going out. Even though they have been pining for each other for a whole year. She’s not the kind of girl to come up with plan to do something with him the minute she says that she likes him. Oops. Confessed again. She knows that she totally doesn’t sound convincing. He leans in closer and says that it’s okay. She doesn’t have to resist the urge. He’s so wrong. She practically yells that she said, she’s not! He’s a little taken aback.

Jung Joo clears her throat and says that she’s not... burning with that kind of desire! He tells “okay.” And looks disappointed. She says that going forward, they should build upon their precious relationship. Gun Woo tells her, “Okay, Lee Jung Joo, who can hold back, You're amazing!” Jung Joo’s smile wavers a little, because she knows that he isn’t buying it.

Gun Woo adds that, just in case she can't hold back, she should go ahead and tell him. He’ll cooperate with her any time. I had to belly laugh on that one. He is so wrong. She smiles and says that he should. Then she says that she left something in the storage room. She’ll be right back. Stiffly, because she’s mortified, she walks away. Gun Woo mutters that she should just acknowledge that she's a vampire.

Noona is waiting to run into Mayor at the Town Office. He spots her and asks what she’s doing there. She says that it’s to return his jacket. He tells her that she could've just left it there with someone. He says “thank you” and starts to walk off. She gets up to intercept him. MA and MAII notice. They *notice.* Noona says that Mayor must want something in return. She says that they should go out. She’ll buy him lunch. Dang! Noona just asked him out. She’s forward. I like her.

Clueless, and a little annoyed, he says that he didn't do anything to receive anything in return. He tries to walk away again, but she puts up her hand to stop him. It connects with his chest and shoves him backward a little. Mayor’s surprised! And I am rolling. Noona loudly says that he gave her a hug! And he took off his clothes for her. Doh!

Mayor looks around. This has gotten everyone’s attention. She’s talking about him talking off his clothes for her. That’s a bit intimate. MA and MAII are looking at each other meaningfully. Mayor scratches his head. He doesn’t want people to jump to the wrong idea. He tells her that she shouldn't do this here. They should go outside. And he drags her away. People get out of their seats to watch them leave. Heh.

Now at Caffé Puscucci, Mayor asks why she described it in such a sensual way? He’s irritated. Heh. Noona repeats herself and asks what's wrong with it? That's what happened. He shakes his finger at her and says that he’s being considerate of her. If she gets involved she’ll be the target of nondiscriminatory events by the office and the town residents. Noona says that she doesn't know about what he’s talking about, but based on the high quality intel she heard, the town mayor can get her into the lady diver's school. He should get her in.

Mayor leans forward and asks if she’s lobbying right now? Like he can’t believe it and doesn’t believe she’s doing it. Noona leans forward and pleasantly says that she’s threatening him. She saw something. Like he doesn’t want to know the answer, he asks if she, by any chance, knows about the Red Clay Man. She says that she doesn't know about that but she does know of a man hiding in a store room and crying at a wedding. Doh! She says that she’d never seen a man who hid and cried. So she took a picture. Mayor looks worried.

She says that just like he covered her torn skirt, she will also cover for the time that he was crying. Will he get her into the lady diver's school? Mayor is ticked. He responds that she knows how it feels to be in pain and she came to sprinkle salt all over his wound? (In JD) he says that she’s such a mean woman. He gets up to leave. She protests that she said that she took a picture! Her face says that she doesn’t know why he’s reacting that way. Like these are the typical games that she’s played with the men she’s dated and she’s shocked that it isn’t working. Mayor coldly says that she doesn’t need to cover for him. Do whatever she wants! Mayor goes.

Noona mutters to herself that this isn’t right and runs after him. Oh, those games. Running out of the café, she cries that it’s a lie! It's a lie! She didn't take a picture! She’s so focused on catching him on his bike that she loses her footing and stumbles to the ground. Mayor looks back and sees her whimpering because she broke a heel. She really ripped it. He asks himself if she’s an idiot. I seem to remember him muttering about someone else being an idiot not too long ago…

He stops and offers her a hand up. She takes it and limps. She’s scraped her knee too. Mayor frowns… and gives her a ride on his bike. She’s loving every minute of it, especially the part where she gets to snuggle into his chest so she doesn’t fall off.

At the Warm and Cozy, Jung Joo comes inside with some squash. Gun Woo is sitting at a table in the dining room, with a napkin on his head like a bandana, whistling and peeling potatoes. She watches him with a smile, but it goes away as she remembers what Dead Face Harpy said about him being a dreamlike prince. She sighs. She wonders if it’s okay for her to make him work? She starts to chew on her thumb.

Gun Woo spots her and calls her name. Trying to act normal, she answers, “Yes?” A big grin on his face he says that he’ll go out today and catch a whole bunch of conches for her! She says, “okay,” but her face isn’t convincing. Poong San tells her that Gun Woo seems to really want to get on her good side. He's working as hard as a cow. I’m wondering if they mean ‘ox,’ but because it’s what they called him before, I’m leaving it. Jung Joo asks if Poong San knows anything about Gun Woo's uncle's business? Jung Joo is shocked when Poong San says that Gun Woo is the only heir. Jung Joo says that if that's the case, Gun Woo is a real prince. Is he peeling potatoes because of her? Yes. And loving every minute of it. She sighs.

Her imagination gets going. Dressed like they’re from the 30’s, Poong San asks how she feels about getting the prince? Gun Woo is indifferently sipping his coffee, looking stiff and regal. I’m laughing. That tie around his neck is killing me. Jung Joo looks beautiful, of course. Jung Joo says that she feel shameless, but it does feel nice.

Poong San looks like he should be delivering newspapers, wearing that cap. He asks what she thinks was the secret? And we have only 30 minutes left to resolve that one! Jung Joo sighs and says that, honestly, she wasn't able to do much for him. If she only knew. She says that she feels like she got him for free, so she’s just grateful.

Indifferent Gun Woo picks up a potato and looks at it. Poong San asks her if she’ll continue making Gun Woo harvest conches and herbs? Gun Woo slowly sniffs the potato. He is cracking me up. Jung Joo says that as long as Gun Woo wants to do it, she can't stop him. Gun Woo slowly starts peeling a potato *with a table knife.* Poong San asks how Jung Joo feels when she sees Gun Woo peeling potatoes? Jung Joo says that she feels… she feels… And it looks like she’s getting a little hot. She sighs.

Back in the real world, Gun Woo gets her attention. She’s sitting at the counter, leaning her forehead against her hand. He asks what she’s doing? She slaps her hands together so they ask for forgiveness. She apologizes and says that even if he acts cold to her from now on, she’ll forgive him. He asks why he would act cold to her? She says that a prince of a wealthy family should be rude and cold, which makes him cool. He laughs, because she’s being ridiculous.

Jung Joo says that he gave up being the heir of his family and he’s peeling potatoes and catching conches... She feels bad seeing him do that. He asks why he would give that up because of her? Not a ‘she’s not worth that’ why but ‘that’s not even an issue’ why. The following conversation:

Weren't you giving up management training because of me?
Why would I give that up because of you?
You're really going back then?
I’m contemplating what I should do.

Gun Woo doesn’t sound like it’s really much of a struggle. He says that he has to go back for now. He can't just say 'I quit' and quit. He’s not some son of a bitch. Jung Joo looks sad.

Gun Woo cocks his head and asks if she’s okay with a temporary long-distance relationship? Jung Joo’s face says that she’s surprised that he’s said ‘temporary,’ that he’s choosing to stay with her. Gun Woo pats her arm and says that his Jung Joo is very patient, right? Gun Woo affectionately raps her forehead and walks away. Watching him go, Jung Joo shakes her head and says that she has no patience at all. She whimpers and leans over.

Jung Joo’s meeting with the ajummas. Will she get married to Maendorong and move in together now? Jung Joo waves her hands ‘no’ and says that Gun Woo has things to do outside of Jeju Island for now. Both ladies tell her that it's enough that she let him leave the island once. But not twice! Men don’t return twice! They say that she’s a real lady diver of Jeju Island once she sends a man away to the inland. She laughs nervously and envisions herself dressed like she’s from in the forties, calling out for him.

Jung Joo sits in her Shack – which actually looks like it’s taking shape. She says that the whole world should be colored in pink but why is it a gloomy gray? She drops her head. Gun Woo enters and asks what she’s doing. She’s surprised he found her. He says that the owner of the construction company said she was there. What is she doing? She says that they’re going to start building a cafe. She saved enough money and the construction planning is almost complete.

Gun Woo points out the open roof. Jung Joo says that roof construction will cost the most. He asks what she would have done if the roof hadn’t have blown away that day. Would she have gone ahead with her plan and opened up a cafe there? Probably. But she wouldn't have had a chance to be with him at the Warm and Cozy either. He mentions how she was originally planning on building a house there, right? He sounds like he’s planning something. She says that she was. He says that it would make a better house than a cafe. This used to be Young Deok's grandma's house anyway.

Jung Joo remembers the grandma ghost! Gun Woo says that this is the house where she beat up her player of a husband who left and they lived happily ever after. Yes, a house will be better than a cafe. Don't start the construction on this place on her own. It’s his. Indignant, she asks why it’s his business?! He says that she gave him the Shack as collateral (for the Warm and Cozy)! She can't fix it the way she wants without his permission!

Jung Joo protests that she already has construction plans in place! He responds that life doesn't turn out the way you plan it. If she thinks about the night when they were locked up in there, who would've known that they’d start over like this? She admits that she really thought things were over between them.

A puckish look on his face, Gun Woo wonders what would've happened if the wall didn't have that crack and had had to spend the night together. Even then, since she’s very patient, she would have protected him, right? She guesses so. Gun Woo says, “Look at you. I give a chance to jump me, and you still keep me safe.” Heh. Jung Joo looks at him, surprised. He says that it’s fine. Out of spite, he’ll wait and see how long she can be patient. She knows that he has to leave in a few days, right? Gun Woo leans closer and tells her not to waste precious time by being coy. He gives her a little glare and leaves the Shack. I think he wants them to live there. They can’t live in the Warm and Cozy forever, especially not if they have children. And she’s not going to want to climb those steps with swollen ankles when she’s pregnant. Jung Joo whines after him that he should give a long time for that chance. There's an opportune time when it comes to an attack! Vampire carp would know. Heh.

Dead Face Harpy has dropped by the Warm and Cozy and ordered some tea. Oh, joy. She tells Jung Joo that she wants the same preparations for her wedding that Hyung had. She’s being so pleasant right now. Even though it’s incredibly rude what she’s requesting. Jung Joo replies that Gun Woo made preparations for the wedding then, but he won't be around this time. Will that be all right? Dead Face Harpy says that, truthfully, she’s not okay, but her Joon Hee wants the restaurant to cater the reception. Jung Joo, with pleasant sarcasm, tells Dead Face Harpy that she’s very thankful! Dead Face Harpy smiles widely. Jung Joo stops smiling and adds that it’s only to Joon Hee. Dead Face Harpy’s put in her place and her expression shows it.

Dead Face Harpy changes the subject. Is Jung Joo just going to let Gun Woo go? What's with her confidence? She’s talking like they’re friends now. Dead Face Harpy is weird. She’s told Jung Joo countless times but there's no sense of urgency with Jung Joo. This actually sounds like Ji Won’s trying to be helpful. I think she actually likes Jung Joo since Jung Joo put her in her place. Jung Joo replies that she’s overwhelmed with a sense of urgency, so Ji Won shouldn’t add to it. Ji Won sarcastically says that she guesses that Jung Joo doesn’t get it at all. She can't even imagine how many girls had their eyes on Gun Woo this past year. Ji Won saunters out.

Poong San’s been listening. Jung Joo mutters that she should pour salt in Ji Won’s wedding cake! He tells her that he doesn’t think Ji Won said anything wrong. She whines at Poong San and asks why he’s making her nervous. He replies that *he’s* nervous. Gun Woo and Jung Joo are going out now, but from what he can see, there is nothing different from when they were business partners. There's no sense of tension. Jung Joo sighs.

Jung Joo dresses nicely, including their necklace. She tells herself, as she looks in the mirror, that she’s a bit tense today. She gives herself props with a finger gun. She practices what she’s going to say:

Gun Woo, we've never been on a date so far. Does this make any sense?

She doesn’t like that one.

Gun Woo, should we go on a date?

Another version: Should we go on a date?

Another version: Should we go on a date?

She walks down the stairs, nervous. Gun Woo is sitting, looking at something on his tablet. She silently gives herself a two-fisted ‘fighting’ and comes down the stairs.

She walks over and asks what he’s doing. Engrossed, he says that he’s looking up something. She says that she heard there's a fun movie out. Should they go see a movie? Still engrossed, he replies that he doesn't want to see a movie today. Jung Joo suggests that they go check out a great sweet red bean porridge place opened by the coastal road.

In Korea, red beans are believed to get rid of sickness and repel the evil spirits/demons. For a discussion of the anthropological origins, click here.

Gun Woo hears sweet red bean porridge and asks if she wants him to make her some? Is she hungry? He starts to get up but she stops him. Taking his hand, she says they should go out to eat. They should go for a drive and take a walk on the beach at night. Gun Woo says that he doesn’t really want to go outside.

Frustrated, Jung Joo sits on the table and says that what she means is this: after they told each other how they feel toward each other, they became boyfriend and girlfriend, but they haven't even been on a proper date. She feels like they maybe just look at each other every day without any sense of tension. Gun Woo practically rolls his eyes as he says that he’s never looked at her without being tense. Sadly, she replies, “Really? I guess you're comfortable with the way things are now.”

She gets up to go, but he stops her with a wrist grab. He clarifies: He’s been uncomfortable the entire time. He’s been nervously waiting for her here, wondering when she’d come downstairs and feeling very uncomfortable. She smiles. So... he waited for her? She’s satisfied.

Jung Joo asks what they should do first – her voice obviously excited. Should they go for a walk? She’ll pack up and come right back. She tries to go do that, but that wrist grab is in place. He pulls her back so that she’s sitting on his lap. She looks at him shocked and he quickly kisses her. She looks at him, not sure what she should do. He says that he doesn't want to go for a walk. He doesn't want sweet red bean porridge and he doesn't want to go see a movie either. She admits that she doesn’t want to either.

She tells him that she likes him most. He smiles. Then she tells him she loves him. He stops smiling and looks at her for a moment – like he can’t believe that she’s finally his and then he kisses her, with some real passion. And she kisses back. They stop and look at each other. They kiss some more, with Jung Joo wrapping her arms around his neck to pull him close.

Captioning tells us: [These two obviously... didn't venture out that night...]

Hyung and Hae Shil are sitting at their spot by the sea. Smiling, he says that it’s been a long time since they came there for a walk. She tells him that she really wanted to come there today; it is the place that holds the most memories with him. Why do I not think that everything is okay with her? He starts talking about the scavenger hunt. There’s still one left. Why can't she find it? Her eyes glassy, she says that sometimes the closest one is the hardest one to spot. I definitely don’t think she’s talking about the scavenger hunt now. Hyung says that the closest one is the easiest one to spot. How can she not see it?

He adds that she doesn't look well. Is she sick? Hae Shil says that whenever she goes diving, when she’s about to come out of water, sometimes she sees something at the bottom. If she dived down there to see what it is, she could die from shortness of breath. But she dives down to check, even thought she knows that. Even though it could be nothing. Hyung says that if you don't check, you'll think about it the entire time, even after you come out of the water. That's why she still dives down there, knowing that she could die. It's foolish, but that's how people are. Hae Shil looks at him and says that she’s a foolish person. He totally has no idea what’s going on. He disagrees. She’s wise. She’s the best lady diver on Jeju Island. He has faith in her that she’ll safely come out of the water. He hugs her and as she leans against his chest, her face says that there definitely is something going on.

That evening, Hae Shil meets with GWD. Upon seeing her, he bows respectfully. She tells him that she doesn't want this to take long. Just tell her if what she heard from Jong Bae is true. Stoically, Dad asks if she’s curious whether he threw his life away for the woman he loved? Gun Woo comes across them and can hear them.

Dad continues: is she wondering if he took the fault for the woman he loved and spent 15 years in prison? If he didn't appear before the woman and her son so that he wouldn't interrupt their lives? He chuckles, like it’s stupid, and says, “What to do?” It's a beautiful love story, but if he hears those words to be his own story, there is nothing more absurd or unjustified. That’s not a no. It’s a statement on how he doesn’t want to admit that he was a fool.

Dad asks if he looks to her like he’d be capable of such an amazing love? Does she think such an amazing love exists in this world? And I don’t think he thinks it’s amazing. I just think that he’s being sarcastic to try and keep Hae Shil hating him and not Se Young. Gun Woo’s face looks sad, pained. Because he can tell that Dad is lying. As someone who’s done it, he knows Dad is lying.

Dad says that he already paid for his crimes and Baek Se Young is dead. If Hae Shil wants to try and beautify something on a grand scale when it's already over, it's not bad for him. But what's her reason for doing that? Will she stop her love? Dang! Dad! He’s doing this so she won’t hate Se Young’s son. Hae Shil replies that if it's true, she can't make it work with Hyung. Dad won’t meet her eyes as he says that if she truly wants to do that, he can't stop her. His stoic tone slips as he says, “How frustrating.”

Dad looks at her again and says that that’s all he has to tell her. Wake up to reality. No such love exists in this world. Paying for that house more than the market price was to pay for his crime. So please accept it. That's the way she’ll make him feel a bit at peace. Gun Woo’s face says that he knows that his father is lying about it all. Dad says that he hopes they don't have any occasion to see each other again. He bows and walks away. Gun Woo sags onto the van he was hiding behind, struck by everything he’s heard. That all his life, he’s thought his father didn’t care… that at 19, his mother made him think Dad was evil and he’d hated an innocent man for it. More than that, someone who still looked out for her when she hated him.

Jong Bae stops Dad before he gets into his car. He tells Dad that Gun Woo heard everything he said. Dad doesn’t regret it? Is that really the truth? Was Jong Bae not listening? To where Hae Shil said that she won’t be able to be happy with Hyung – her current husband – if it’s true? Dad looks away and says that he’s never regretted anything over that incident. That's the truth he possesses. And that’s deep and that’s love. And it’s really sad. Dad says that he hopes that he doesn't have any occasion to see Jong Bae again, either.

Hae Shil sits in a chair on the deck, dazed, drained. She finally rises and notices the last box. She opens it to find a bottle, filled with different kinds of sand and rocks. There’s a note. She unrolls and opens it.

Finally, you found the gem I prepared with my greatest effort. The name of this gem is Jeju Island. He went to different places in Jeju you love and collected them bit by bit. Soil from Halla Mountain, black sand from Soesokkak Estuary, sand from Sorang Beach where you used to go diving every day is in there too. I have a lot of money, so gems bought with money doesn't seem that valuable. So I went to every nook and cranny of Jeju Island. What do you think? Do you like it?

Hae Shil starts to cry as she cradles it to her heart. And she makes me cry. Man!

Mrs. Kim Hae Shil, the perfect gem of my life. I love you.

When she meets with Hyung later, she doesn’t look sad. She says that she found every piece of jewelry he hid away. He tells her that she found them sooner than he thought. Hae Shil says that since she found all of them, she’ll give him a prize. She’ll listen to his story as she promised before they got married. She said she’d listen to anything he told her. So tell her, she’ll listen to him.

Gun Woo is sitting, burdened on the steps in the dining room of the Warm and Cozy. Jung Joo wordlessly comes and sits beside him. He looks at her and then looks down. Jung Joo says that he doesn't need to say anything. She just feels like she should be with him right now. He looks at her and puts his arm around her. As her head rests on his chest, he says that it does give him comfort. She takes his other hand in hers and holds it and they sit there, not saying anything.

Hyung is with Gun Woo. He says that Hae Shil has agreed to leave Jeju and stay in Japan. Gun Woo says that that’s good. I don’t necessarily think so. Hyung says that they’ll stop by and eat at the restaurant before they leave. Gun Woo nods an okay. After a pause, Gun Woo asks Hyung if he thought he could throw away the rest of his life for his wife? Hyung asks what Gun Woo is saying out of nowhere? Gun Woo says that he just wonders if such a nonsensical love could exist in this world. Hyung says that he wonders, too. Gun Woo says that he doesn’t know if he could do it, but somehow he feels like it could exist.

Dad is outside the Warm and Cozy. Jung Joo arrives and gives him a bow. I don’t think she knows who he is. Dad bows back. He decides to leave. Jung Joo invites him in for lunch. The lunch menu today is to die for. Dad decides to do it. He can’t help himself.

Now inside, Jung Joo tells Dad that they’re on a break, so there's no one else there. They only have the Warm Course for lunch. Dad says he’s fine with that. Dad takes a seat. Jung Joo brings the food. It looks so good. Dad starts to eat.

Jung Joo almost walks away, but he seems sad so she doesn’t. She comes back and says that it’s ‘maendorong ttottot’ isn’t it? When he looks at her, she explains that it’s a Jeju phrase that means 'warm and cozy.' Dad’s face starts to change as she talks. It's also the name of the restaurant. It's the phrase the chef's father taught his mother. Isn't it such a pretty phrase? Dad has to look away, but he answers that it is.

Jung Joo says that their chef made all of the dishes. Their chef has a warm heart and is a nice person, so his dishes are warm and delicious, too. So, please enjoy. She walks away and Dad has a hard time eating. Why am I bawling right now?

After the meal, Jung Joo walks Dad outside. He looks more at peace now. He thanks her and tells her that it was very delicious. She tells him to please come back again. He smiles and nods. Gun Woo arrives to see him leaving and starts to cry. He watches his father drive away.

Jung Joo sees him and happily greets him. He wipes his eyes. Didn't he go out with Poong San? Trying to sound like everything’s normal, he brightly says that he just came back. They should go in. Jung Joo notices that he’s off but doesn’t say anything.

Jung Joo is at the Shack meeting with the contractor. She looks over the list and says that it’s different from what she ordered. It isn't for a store. It's for a residential house. Contractor says that she’s right. The groom-to-be put in a new order to build a house. I knew that’s what he was thinking! Jung Joo is surprised: Gun Woo did? Notice the part where she skipped over Contractor calling Gun Woo ‘the groom-to-be.’

Flashback to Gun Woo meeting with Contractor. He wants big floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea. And they'll use this side for a bedroom. He points to another wall and starts naming off one, two bedrooms. He corrects himself. They should have at least three kids, right? Hee! His grin. He’s killing me.

Back in the present, Jung Joo asks if Gun Woo did that? Contractor says that it looks like she and Maendorong are finally getting married. I love that all the townspeople call him ‘Maendorong’ since it really does fit him: warm and cozy. Contractor adds that Jung Joo must be happy. She smiles because she is.

That night, Gun Woo says that he has to go tomorrow. He should explain the situation to his uncle and wrap up his affairs. Jung Joo’s sad. She sighs and says that it's really the beginning of a long distance relationship. He asks if she’s prepared for it? She says yes and asks how frequently he can come? Once a month? He doesn’t answer. Once every two months? No answer. Not even once every three months? After a pause, he says that he’ll be back in a week. Heh.

He says that Hyung and his wife are leaving to Japan next month. With that, things have changed a bit. He can stay in Jeju. Jung Joo smiles widely. He says that he thought about how he’d like to live and he wants to do things that make him happy there with her. Aw. Jung Joo says that she likes that, too.

Gun Woo smile fades and he takes her hand. Saying her name, he says that he wants to tell her a story. It’s about his father. He looks a little sad, which is understandable. It’s a sad story. On their 19th birthday, the day she came to see him... he should start with what happened that day. It's a long story. So, please listen. Putting her other hand over his, she says that she will.

Flashback over their relationship.

I am your twin.
Running into each other at the airport.
Her losing everything.
Gun Woo as her teddy bear.
Sunrise at Halla Mountain.
Confessing to him when she thinks he’s asleep.
Gun Woo’s stomach ache.
Catching her falling off the chairs. It feels uncomfortable.
Telling her that he’s very hot right now.
Him telling her that he loves her.
By the lighthouse, telling her that he’s hers forever.

Scenes of Jeju. Two aprons hanging on the line outside the Warm and Cozy.

The Warm and Cozy. Joon Hee and Ji Won are there to test the meal for their wedding. Sea urchin noodle soup. It’s obvious that Ji Won doesn’t like it as she asks if this is the dish for their wedding reception. Joon Hee’s face says he likes it. Gun Woo answers that Ji Won wanted to hang three iron pots. Even if she calls Chef Cha from Manjae Island, it'll be hard to get a better dish. And the lady divers from the association will catch the sea urchin.

Ji Won uncomfortably laughs and asks Joon Hee what he thinks. Oppa voice as she asks if it isn't too humble for the wedding of the heir to Youngseok Group? Shouldn't they serve some lobsters or caviar? Joon Hee says that he likes that it's humble. She’s losing her Oppa smile. Puppy dog-eyes as he asks, “Why? You don't like it?” Struggling, Ji Won smiles and says that she’s trying to like it.

Joon Hee takes her hand and says that once they get married, they should go to Oksunbong Peak. Definitely losing the Oppa smile. They should grow sorghum in the backyard, raise chickens and a goat... And I am rolling. So are Jung Joo and Gun Woo, but they’re hiding it better. They should cook three meals a day themselves and live a humble life together.

Dead Face Harpy rips her hand out of his and screams, “Forget it! I can't! I won't!” She tells him to cook three meals a day all by himself! Joon Hee asks her what's wrong all of a sudden? He’s the heir of Youngseok Group! Like he knows that that’s what she likes about him. She laughs sarcastically and tells him to have a nice wedding by himself, in a sunflower field or a buckwheat field! She storms out of the restaurant. Joon Hee quickly says that he’s leaving first and runs after her. Gun Woo laughs.

Hyung and Hae Shil are about to leave. He takes her in his arms and thanks her for leaving Jeju Island for him. She replies that staying together is the most important thing. He asks if she thinks that love that throws everything else away exists. She replies that that’s what he’s done for her. He smiles and thanks her for thinking so highly of him. She adds that no matter how much of an amazing love exists in the world, it can't defeat her ordinary, but precious love right now.

At Diving School, Noona catches Mayor as he’s leaving. She plops herself on his bike, saying she’s so tired. He looks at her like she has two heads and asks what she’s doing. She smiles and asks him to please give her a ride. She’s tired from diving. He tells her that she drove her car here. Drive back home. He is so clueless. I’m cracking up. Noona whines and says that she’s going to her brother's restaurant. Please give her a ride. Happily patting his back, she says they should go. Mayor sighs. You know he’s going to do it.

Gun Woo is back in the kitchen, cooking. Or rather, he’s sharing it with Poong San. The sight of it makes me happy. The restaurant is hopping. Mi Ra and Dong Soo are there. Jung Joo says she looks forward to Mi Ra’s new work. As Jung Joo walks away, Dong Soo asks Mi Ra what her blog post is about today? She smiles and says that it’s a story about how the mayor and Noona are dating. Dong Soo says that they’re not dating. It looks like Noona keeps trying by herself. They laugh. Mi Ra adds that Noona promised to buy a thousand copies of her book, if Mi Ra says it's dating. Immediately Dong Soo agrees that they should make it dating. Heh.

Nervous, Poong San makes a phone call. He calls Yoo Ra and asks if she’s free this weekend? Fist pump says she is. He says that he’ll come to her house to pick her up. He hangs up. Jung Joo asks if he finally has a date with Yoo Ra. He does. Hee.

Ajummas and Jong Bae are planning. Maendorong will give them the wedding noodle soup soon, right? Bok Nyeo says that it's a fate created by the sea god! Jong Bae declares that Gun Woo and Jung Joo will cooperate with increasing Sorang Town's population soon in the future. Heh. What a way to say that they’re going to have kids. Heh. The table declares ‘Of course!’ and they roll with pleasure. Maendorong is officially from Sorang Town now. Squish!

Jung Joo serves Hyung and Hae Shil. Jung Joo says that she caught the sea urchin herself. Hae Shil says that Jung Joo must be pretty good at diving now. Hyung chimes in that if he didn't quit, he’d have caught it for her. Hae Shil tells him that he wasn’t good at it. Hyung laughs.

MA and MAII are eating. MA asks who the woman that came to see our mayor? MAII says that whoever it is, they should set up a romantic surprise and make sure it's a success this time. Jang leans in and whispers for them to please spread the word that it's Cha Hee Ra (Noona). Heh. He’s almost gleeful.

Noona arrives, beaming, dragging Mayor in with her. Grabbing his arm and smiling widely, she loudly bids everyone hello. Mayor, of course, weirds out because the town in there and they’re going to think the pair are dating. He tries to run, but Noona won’t let him. She sees Hyung and Hae Shil and says that they should go say hello. I am rolling again! Mayor grabs off his hat and glares as he asks if Noona dragged him there on purpose. She tells him that she’s met his father, brother, sister and even his niece. He can't back out now. Mayor looks horrified. Not again! Even though you ended up falling in love with the girl that everyone thought you were dating.

Noona drags him over to Hyung’s table. Mayor bows to everyone and looks like a deer caught in headlights. Head scratching.

Jung Joo smiles and takes it all in. She looks content, at home. That makes me a little misty. She turns to Gun Woo and asks if he’s having fun. He says that he is. He’s happy. She says that that’s enough. Finishing touch on his dish. Which looks really good. Is that udon?

Jung Joo and Gun Woo are sitting in one of the benches outside the Warm and Cozy. They’re holding hands and he has his arm around her. He tells her that Joon Hee will forget the sunflower field. They're getting married at a wedding hall in Cheongdam-dong. They laugh and Jung Joo says that Mok Ji Won is very consistent. They laugh again.

Casually, Gun Woo asks what they should do? Jung Joo asks what he means. The wedding ceremony. How does she want to go about it? I guess they had the proposal *off screen.* Because I don’t remember him asking. She thinks and says that she supposes that she’ll have him be the groom? He agrees that she has no choice on that. He already gave her everything a long time ago. He’s hers until death. She can't return it. She smiles at him.

Jung Joo leans into his shoulder and says that now she can feel his temperature and feels at peace. When she thought she was boiling all on her own, she was nervous. She only wondered about the difference in temperature between them. He says that he told her that he was hot too! She just didn't open the lid and check it for herself. She looks at him and says that they shouldn’t boil or cool off on their own. They should match temperatures and be warm and cozy for the rest of their lives. He snuggles with her again and agrees, yes, in a very happy, warm way.

Gun Woo kisses her forehead and tells her that he loves her. She whispers back she does too. Smiles and happy sighs.

As the credits start rolling, Gun Woo asks where they should hold the wedding ceremony? She asks where he wants to have it. He suggests the Warm and Cozy. She likes it. When Hyungnim got married here last time, she was so envious of him. He sucks some air through his teeth and says that they should make it more special. They should do it under the sea with her in a wetsuit. Then he’ll put a pearl ring in a conch shell. Pretending to be upset, she asks how he can tell her that now? It's a special surprise! He pretends to be worried.

Calling her, ‘Sweetie’ he asks if they should spend a warm and cozy night tonight? She says that she’s been waiting for it. Really? Then... should they go to bed?

To the camera, they say, “Have a warm and cozy night!” and make a heart with their arms.

Thoughts

Aw. Aw!

Good job, Hong Sisters! I am very happy with that ending! I got almost everything I asked for. Let’s review:
  1. Gun Woo and Jung Joo happy together. Check.
  2. Kissing! Check, check! Hee.
  3. Gun Woo back in the Warm and Cozy’s kitchen. Check! And both he and Poong San are the Warm and Cozy’s chefs. It was so heart-warming to see Gun Woo happy, making people food.
  4. Hae Shil embracing Gun Woo. I didn’t get this one, but at least it’s resolved. Hae Shil’s resolved to ignore it and love her husband.
  5. Dad revealing that it *was* their nasty mother, then him and Gun Woo reconciling. He did in a roundabout way, still lying, but it was obvious that he was lying so that Hae Shil wouldn’t lose the happiness that she’d found. Gun Woo knows the truth and knows his father loves him. And he told Jung Joo the truth finally. He finally told her what he can’t tell anyone.
  6. The truth about Dad coming out, so that the people of Jeju don’t think him evil anymore. Didn’t get this one, but the people that really matter know now. Except for Hyung. He has no idea what happened between Hae Shil and Dad.
  7. Hyung and Hae Shil reconciling, with her forgiving him for lying about it. This happened and even more, because she chose to accept the lie as the truth so that they could be together.
  8. Hae Shil and Hyung goofiness (specifically Hyung). Not really any, but that’s okay. Their scenes were sweet just the same.
  9. Mayor and Noona romance! I love that Noona is chasing him. Because he’s too uptight to go after it. Once he gets over it, he’ll embrace it, but he was this awkward when he first started liking Jung Joo, too. I love that Noona’s told him that it’s too late, he’s done, so stop fighting it. After all, she’s already met all his family – the implication that his family thinks he’s dating now, too. Come to think about it, his family would probably drag him to the altar in spite of himself, since he’d be single, yet again.
  10. Poong San and Yoo Ra romance. Yay! Poong San got his date J

There were several times I cried this episode, most of them for good/happy reasons:
  1. Hae Shil’s meeting with Dad, because I hurt for him and appreciated what he was willing to do to make Mom’s mistake right.
  2. Jung Joo telling Dad the name of the restaurant, so he knows that Mom didn’t totally hate him and that Gun Woo doesn’t hate him either.
  3. Gun Woo crying as he watched his father drive away. That one was just sad.
  4. Hae Shil weeping as she cradled Hyung’s gift. That one just got me. That was so awesome.
  5. Gun Woo happy. That one was the best one, because he deserved that.

Jung Joo happy didn’t make me cry until the end, when she was looking at the family she’d finally gotten, but I think it’s because I knew that she was going to be happy. She was going to end up with Gun Woo, happy. She already felt loved by people, so her finally getting Gun Woo wasn’t as emotional for me. She could have found a nice life with the Mayor, but for Gun Woo, she was it. There wasn’t going to be anyone else. She was the first person he felt totally secure with and loved by and he needed to end up loved and accepted.

Good show! Great job, Yoo Yeon Suk and Kang So Ra! They really created nuanced people, which made them so rich. Yoo Yeon Suk knocked it out of the park with this last episode. So good.

Dramabeans gave a little tidbit – that the guy who played Joon Hee is Yoo Yeon Suk’s good friend in real life. The scenes with him were meta-filled. The group Joon Hee’s heir to is a shout-out to PD Na Young Seok. Heh. Another shout out to when they’re talking about Chef Cha, because Manjaedo is where Cha Seung Won’s variety show, Three Meals a Day, was filmed. Chef Cha indeed!

More meta jokes as Joon Hee suggests they live in Oksunbong, where Cha Seung Won’s rival on the variety show, Lee Seo Jin, has his farm. He even says that they should live simply and make Three Meals a Day.

I’ll finish my thoughts with my comment that I posted on Episode 16 of Dramabeans’ recap:

I read people talking about the poor writing. I don't think so. Maybe I'm easy to please, but I was invested all the way. I think the dialogue was spot-on in expressing (or not expressing, since a lot of things were said by what wasn’t) things. It was also because of the actors, but the writing gave them space to do it. Yes, it was frustrating, but I loved watching these two people struggle to get to the point of being able to openly love one another. It may have been different than other Hong dramas, but different isn't bad.

I think the Hong Sisters did a great job in telling the story of what kind of legacy Daisy and Gatsby would have left behind. Their translation of those characters into Korean people was spot-on. I still hated her for her selfishness and felt sorry for him that he wasted his love on someone who didn't deserve it.

I think a lot of people overlooked just how hard Gun Woo's life really was and how much his behavior was a defense against that. In the US, being illegitimate isn't a big deal. It's common to see single mothers. People might say that it's a shame that a kid doesn't have a daddy but the kid isn't stigmatized for it and people don't talk about it ALL the time. So wrapping your head around it being very big deal takes a little effort. In the US, being adopted isn't really blinked at. It doesn't make your potential in-laws reject you because they don't know your breeding. In Korea, it's a big deal. No one knew *who* Gun Woo's father was. That's bad.

Plus, Gun Woo wasn't even welcomed into his own family. The Baeks didn't want him around. His mother's own brother didn't want anything to do with him. If Gun Woo went to visit his siblings, who at least loved him like a brother, the Chas and Songs made it obvious that they hated him being around. So Gun Woo had no one.

Jung Joo had to deal with this stigma, too, but at least she grew up loved by her dad. Since he was dead and her aunt wasn't really in her life, she was essentially alone, too.

As someone who grew up feeling unwanted by my parents, family and peers, I get why he was like he was and why he was so insecure. That's what really moved me about Sorang Town. These people became the family that the two were desperately yearning for. It was never said, but it was obvious to me. Over the course of the series, how the town embraced both of them really was great to see and moved me. I loved how, in the end, it was planning their wedding with as much zeal as it did for the mayor.

I'm very happy (and grateful) that the series wrapped up the way it did. The truth came out and was mostly resolved. Hyung and Hae Shil were going to get past what happened with her first husband. The mayor was going to end up with a girl who was crazy about him. Poong San got a girl. Gun Woo and Jung Joo were happily together, embraced by a surrogate family, the family that they always wanted. I feel very Maendorong Ttottot.
