Warm and Cozy Episode 13 Recap

Episode starts right where it left off, with Gun Woo close to crying, saying that he has to leave. Does Jung Joo want to come with him? He walks away.

Over at the table, Jung Joo watches as Mayor happily drinks his makgeolli. She thinks about Gun Woo putting his hand on her forehead, telling her that she’s still boiling. She reaches up and touches her forehead. Mayor asks if she’s not felling well. She tells him that it's not hot. He says that that’s good to hear. Oh, if he only knew. If it's hot, it means she’s sick. She tells Mayor that whenever she’s with him she feels at ease. He smiles and says that that’s good.

The smile on Jung Joo’s face says that it isn’t. She says that whenever she’s with Gun Woo, it hurts. Because… It's hot. Mayor gets what she’s saying. Jung Joo says that she needs to go and check on something. Please be checking on the necklace.

Jung Joo has run back to the Warm and Cozy and goes to the spot in the storeroom. The necklace isn’t there. Gun Woo enters and says that she’s checking as he expected. And he's making it sound like he's just torturing her for sport again. She turns around to face him. He says that she seemed to be holding back for a while. She asks him what he left there. Not looking at her, he says that it was nothing. He pulled a prank on her. He’s killing me. She repeats his words: 'It was a prank?' He looks at her and says that she lost to him again. But his face looks like he’s about to cry. He’s really bad, isn’t he? I totally expected her to buy it, but she sees what I do.

Jung Joo asks him what’s wrong. Did something happen? The concern in her voice is obvious. He sighs and repeats himself. His voice almost cracks as he tells her to get mad at him if she wants to. She says that he doesn't look like he’s enjoying the idea that he pulled a prank. Something happened to him, right? He stops looking at her.

Jung Joo walks over to him. Did something bad happen? Or... is he sick? He tells her to forget it and tries to leave, but she grabs his wrist. She tells him to tell her. She’ll listen to him. Still blinking away those tears, he turns to her and says that it was a prank! She should be getting mad at him, so why is she worried about him? He starts to yell at her. Does she like him that much? Doesn't she have any pride? She answers that he seems off, that's why.

Gun Woo tells her that she should be getting mad at him. Otherwise, regardless of what she thinks... he might insist that they go somewhere together again. And will she fall for it again? Her face says that she’s really worried about how he’s acting. She says that she won’t. Gun Woo has to look away because he’s about to cry. His face is killing me! He says that it’s no fun. He should really stop now. He leaves her in the storeroom and she looks back at the spot where the necklace was.

Outside the storeroom, he pulls the necklace out of his pocket and looks at it sadly.

Back at the party, Mayor is sadly drinking his makgeolli. Poong San arrives. He asks where Jung Joo is. Sadly, Mayor says that Jung Joo went to the restaurant to check something. Poong San asks if came. Mayor replies that they’re probably together. Mayor sighs and says that it’ll be windy. Poong San says that it isn’t, but Mayor’s phone is ringing. It’s someone named Yoo Ra and she’s arrived. Poong San asks and Mayor explains that she’s his cousin's eldest daughter. She's a college student. She's coming here. Is this a love interest for Poong San? Why does that make me a little gleeful? Hee.

Poong San asks if Yoo Ra looks like him, too. Mayor scratches his head. Poong San giggles at the thought of a college student looking like Mayor. He stops smiling when he sees the niece. She looks nothing like Mayor. Yes! A love interest for Poong San! Awesomeness!!! Love the song playing, too. Poong San’s mouth hangs open. Her hair blows in the wind. Because that's what happens when you see the woman you love. Even inside, the wind will blow.

Yoo Ra’s there to meet Jung Joo. Mayor mopes that Jung Joo left. Yoo Ra’s disappointed; she came for nothing. She’s going to leave, but Poong San tells her to wait. A little desperately. He proposes that they take the party to the Warm and Cozy, where Jung Joo is right now.

Poong San must have called ahead because Jung Joo is setting the tables as they arrive. Poong San asks where Gun Woo is. Jung Joo tells him that Gun Woo went out… and to have fun. Poong San asks her to stay and then says that she has to stay so *she’ll* stay too. *She’s* the Mayor’s niece. Mayor won’t stay if Jung Joo isn’t there and Yoo Ra won’t stay if Mayor isn’t there. He puts up his hands and begs. Mayor arrives, looking really down. Poong San mouths to Jung Joo that it will be just this once.

Sitting at the table and everyone drinks from a large glass of beer. Jung Joo is sitting between Mayor and Yoo Ra and Poong San is right next to Yoo Ra. MA says that now that Yoo Ra's there, the entire mood has changed! Poong San can’t stop smiling. He totally likes her. Aw. Poong San strikes up a conversation and uses the Warm and Cozy as the hook. He’ll make her whatever she wants to eat. She smiles at him.

Jung Joo’s mood is subdued. Mayor asks if she checked on what she needed to. She tells him that she did, but there was nothing. She must be a real idiot. That lightens Mayor’s mood. He points at his niece and says that she’s really pretty. She looks exactly like him, doesn't she? Jung Joo says honestly that Yoo Ra is really pretty because she doesn't look like him. He laughs and lightly slaps her arm. That's a flirty girl move, Mayor. He tells Yoo Ra to have a drink with Jung Joo.

Gun Woo returns. From inside his car, he looks at the necklace and sighs. He’s really bad. He worries that Jung Joo is crying again. When he comes inside, he finds the group doing a drinking game. Mayor calls himself her Dark Knight and drinks for her. That sours Gun Woo’s mood considerably. When they see Gun Woo, they invite him to join, but he won’t. He stops, though when MA says that Mayor has to kiss Jung Joo. Instigated by Yoo Ra, group chants for them to kiss. Jung Joo stops them, asking how they can do that. Mayor starts to protest, too, but his niece shoves Jung Joo so that she plants one on his cheek. Gun Woo doesn’t like that at all.

Jung Joo and Mayor look really uncomfortable, but everyone laughs and says that they should do it again. One more time! One more time? Gun Woo goes over and says that if they’re going to do it, they should do it properly! Crowd, following Yoo Ra’s lead, starts chanting ‘properly.’ Jung Joo tells him to stop joking around. Gun Woo replies that it’s not a joke... Scolding, he asks if she doesn’t she know how to do it properly? Like this! He leans over and kisses her on the lips. Shocked look from Jung Joo and very shocked look from Mayor. I think my mouth dropped open, too. Gun Woo tells her that if she’s going to do it, she needs do it properly. Properly! He walks off.

Jung Joo sits there for a moment and storms after him. Gun Woo stops out by the veranda. Jung Joo comes out and asks what he just did. He turns around and asks “Why?” He just said she should do it properly if she was going to do it because she doesn’t like it when things are done halfway or poorly. She replies that he’s so… petty, like a real player! And now the argument because they can't talk about how they really feel. Gun Woo can’t believe she’s calling him that. How many minutes have passed since what happened between them (in the storeroom) and she’s over there playing games? Now it’s Jung Joo’s turn to start to act like she doesn’t care, like something isn’t wrong. Jung Joo asks him if he thought she’d get hurt by him. He’s hoping too much. Gun Woo spits back, “What hope? I'm glad! Lee Jung Joo, you're so upbeat!"

Jung Joo starts to feel bad again, but then it hits her. Is he jealous? Gun Woo looks away – because he is and he can’t let her think that. He jumped in because he was jealous, right? He swallows – the kind of swallow you do when you’re trying not to cry. Man, he’s having a hard night being the noble idiot. Jung Joo says that when she went to go see flowers last time, this is how he was, too. He looks at her, scowling slightly. And his face can’t help but show that she’s right. What he’s doing to her right now is him begging her not to go anywhere else. The hardness out of her voice leaves and as she tells him that if he wants to hang onto her, he needs to tell her properly now.

And even though that’s exactly what he *wants* to do… Gun Woo looks at her and says that he has no intention of hanging onto her. She doesn’t believe him. Jung Joo replies, again with no hardness in her voice, asking him if he's doing this just to confuse her and make her heart waver? His face looks tired, beaten. Gun Woo says that he won’t. He said he'd stop. Looking away again – probably because he can’t say it while looking at her – he says that he’s going to leave Jeju Island and he’s going to quit the Warm and Cozy. He gives her one last look and leaves. Jung Joo is so stunned that she doesn’t say anything.

Ji Won is sitting in her room – not looking like herself, I almost didn’t recognize her – wondering about what she saw earlier. Why was Gun Woo not sitting with his siblings and why did he walk away? Why did he look upset? Should she ask Noona? She almost calls but stops herself.

Mayor goes outside to find Jung Joo sitting, stunned. He feels bad. She looks so miserable. He decides to take action. Upbeat, he approaches her, asking if the Dark Knight should clean up, too. Why is he calling himself Batman? She protests that it’s okay (if he doesn’t). He points at her and says that she’s being bombarded by other thoughts so much that she already forgot that he was her Dark Knight earlier, right? Jung Joo makes a face because she did forget. Mayor says that the Dark Knight didn't get blown away by the wind. So if she asks for help, he'll run over to her anytime.

Jung Joo smiles slightly and sadly says that there will be no more wind anymore. Gun Woo said he won't make her waver anymore. He said he's leaving. He’s leave everything, Jeju Island, the Warm and Cozy... and her. Mayor blinks because he’s surprised. He will? Jung Joo starts to get upset as she wondering why he’s suddenly doing that. She thought he was hanging onto her as he was making her heart waver. She must really have been nobody to him.

Mayor asks how she can be a nobody. She’s the only one he sees. That was really sweet and romantic. Poor Mayor. Find another girl, dude. Noona’s available. You’ll have pretty children, too. Jung Joo bows deeply and apologizes. Jung Joo says that she said she’d try but she’s making things more difficult for him. She starts to say it’s over but Mayor cuts her off, scratching his head and saying that he can't be the Dark Knight washing the dishes. He has to take his niece home now. He walks away before she can say anything else.

Gun Woo is up sitting on his bed, miserable. I want to go hug the poor noble idiot. He keeps thinking about Jung Joo and how she asked him to do what his heart wants him to do: tell her properly now.

Switch to Jong Bae with GWD. He asks GWD how it was to see Gun Woo even from afar? GWD doesn’t look happy, but rather really burdened. And in this light, his hair is blond. Makes me think of Robert Redford’s Gatsby. GWD says that he could tell that Gun Woo truly hated that he existed. Quick flashback of Gun Woo indirectly telling his father never to show up. GWD sighs. Jong Bae tells GWD that he was deeply indebted to GWD when he was young. Even if he can't tell Jong Bae, if there’s something he wants to tell his son, Jong Bae will do his best to help him set up a meeting. GWD tells him that it’s fine. Just help him purchase Hae Shil's house. After that, he will disappear again. Jong Bae asks if he’s really going to do that.

Mi Ra and Dong Soo are with Noona. They say that the man who took the picture is Jin Tae Yong.

Flashback to the past with GWD taking the picture. Oma arrives and GWD wants to get a picture of Oma and Appa together, but Appa groans and says that they see each other all the time. It’s obvious that the four are good friends and enjoy each other’s company. Mi Ra’s voiceover says that the man in the picture is part of a couple Gun Woo’s parents used to hang out with on Jeju Island.

Dong Soo says that GWD lied to Mom that he made a lot of money overseas when he met her again. The truth revealed itself soon enough, and on the day that accident happened, they had a big argument

Flashback to GWD looking miserable as he apologizes. Mom throws a glass at him so that it shatters on the table in front of him. Mom hisses at him that he’s a liar… a con artist. Mom stumbles out and gets into her car. It’s obvious that she’s drunk. How did I know that this was the scenario? Mom was pissed at Dad, she was drunk, he took the fall. Wow, and the twisted Korean logic makes him believe that it’s the sins of his past – lying to her about having money – so he deserves to be miserable for the rest of his life. Oi. GWD comes after her, asking why she won’t hear him out? He shouts at her not to go and then chases after her when she drives away. Dramatic music.

GWD starts to pass out so he doesn’t see Hae Shil’s husband until it’s too late. Although Hae Shil’s husband was STUPID. This was a wide open road and it’s at night, so he should have seen the headlights coming. Why did he walk out into the middle of the road? Dad tries to stop, but he can’t in time. I wasn’t expecting it to really be Dad. My story was better. Especially if this is based on 'The Great Gatsby.' Dad gets out of the car and sees that Hae Shil’s husband is still alive but then drives away after Mom. Okay, I can see why he feels guilty. If he had taken Hae Shil’s stupid husband to the hospital, the guy might have lived.

Dad was arrested two days after the accident and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Mom looks at the newspaper, her face impassive, and reaches for her stomach as Mi Ra says that Mom was already pregnant with Gun Woo by then. Noona looks pained as she processes this news. Dong Soo says that’s all they found out for their novel. Noona continues to process and says that this must have been why Mom must've told Gun Woo in such a harsh way.

Flashback to Mom sitting, coldly talking. She says that she didn't want to give birth to a baby from the likes of him but she had no choice. We don’t see Gun Woo. Even if Dad shows up as his father, Gun Woo should never meet with him. Gun Woo, your father is human trash. A liar, a con artist, and a murderer. That's the truth about your father. Wow, Gun Woo’s Mom was a nasty piece of work. Not only did she say all that stuff, but she went as far as tell him that she didn’t want him to exist, but she had no choice. That would make anyone insecure. Poor Gun Woo.

Noona says that Mom was very cruel to Gun Woo and warned him not to grow curious about his father or meet with him. Mi Ra and Dong Soo look like they feel terrible for Gun Woo. And they should. Noona turns to them and says that she’s warning them, too! They need to get rid of everything they just told her and stop writing the novel. Mi Ra answers that she couldn't write anymore, so she didn't want to proceed anyway. Noona says that they shouldn’t talk about it again. She sighs heavily.

And around the corner, Dead Face Harpy has been eavesdropping on everything. Why is she there? Ugh! Dead Face Harpy can’t believe it. Gun Woo's father was that kind of a man?

He looks like he just wants to die of misery.

Jung Joo comes downstairs. They don’t say anything to each other. She pours herself some hot water for tea. Gun Woo won’t look at her. He can’t look at her. She’s watching him and not paying attention, so she pours the hot water on her hand. Gun Woo immediately reacts, wordlessly dragging her over to the sink and holding her hand under cold running water. He tells her to stay there and he’ll bring some ice.

Gun Woo is holding the ice pack on Jung Joo’s hand – so they’re holding hands as he gives her first aid. He yells at her for pouring hot water over her own hand? It's obvious why she was so distracted! She was looking at him, wasn't she? Man, he can’t help himself to keep the same dance going. I guess Jung Joo getting hurt made him forget his resolve. She tells him to stop it. It’s too cold. She shoves the pack off her hand. Gun Woo hisses at her and says that she should cool it off. She tells him that she’ll do it. Immediately he tells her to just stay put. He’ll cool it off. He has to see if it's okay. What if it leaves a scar? For someone who doesn’t care, he sure is acting like he does.

Quietly, Jung Joo asks when he’s leaving. Gun Woo was lightly rotating the pack, but his hand stops. He asks if he should wait until it's cooled off? He reaches over and feels her forehead as he asks, “My Jung Joo... are you still hot?” What is he doing? He really can’t help himself. Probably because, for all his bluster, he really doesn’t want this to end. She winces as she pulls his hand away from her forehead and tells him to stop kidding around. Is he really leaving?

Gun Woo sighs, says her name and tells her not to go anywhere else... Does she want to come with him? Then he covers by saying… Can she tell if he means this or not? Naturally, Jung Joo gets annoyed. Frustrated, Jung Joo asks why he always says things in a confusing way? He replies that if he says what's on his heart and she doesn't accept him, he'd be really hurt. That sounds like she means something to him. So he doesn't ask dangerous questions. In case she doesn’t accept him... he also pretends like he’s joking. Wow, that was all totally honest. Jung Joo replies, irritated, asking how he can do that.

Gun Woo replies that she won't tell him whether or not she'd come with him. She’s also the same when it comes to only giving safe answers. Which is very true… even though she has reason to be hesitant, what with all his earlier mind games. He looks at Jung Joo’s hand and says that it should be safe now. Saying good night, he puts the ice pack on her head and goes upstairs. Jung Joo grabs the pack off her head and asks what he’s expecting: even when she knows that it's boiling water, she’s supposed to let it pour all over her?

Jung Joo is meeting with Mayor at Diving School. Lady restaurant owner is meeting them and she’s agreed to take Jung Joo’s shabby house as collateral instead of money. Mayor says that Owner must really like her and the lady divers of the school are Owner’s friends and put in a good word for her.

Mayor asks if she wants to plant a clementine tree in her shabby house. What does he mean, a clementine tree? He says that she should stay there for about three years and take her time to fix up the house. By the time the tree has found its roots and the clementines are hanging, she will really have her own restaurant, too. She smiles and says that just thinking about it makes her happy. Mayor tells her that even if she leaves the Warm and Cozy, she won't run into any problems. Jung Joo’s face doesn’t look like she believes that at all.

Jong Bae has gone to yell at Gun Woo about the night before. He heard that Miss Lee kissed the mayor because she likes him. But Gun Woo jumped in and ruined it. Gun Woo replies that he was blinded by jealousy, so it happened. If only he could say that Jung Joo! Jong Bae says that what happens with this love triangle has become the top thing of interest for the town. Gun Woo replies that he’s leaving Jeju Island soon. Jong Bae is shocked. What about the restaurant? What about Miss Lee? Gun Woo tells him that he has a favor to ask about that, so can Jong Bae please cooperate with him. At least he’s the one asking for cooperation this time. Heh.

I guess Jong Bae decided to help. Jong Bae is with Jung Joo and Poong San now. He says that he thinks that Warm and Cozy will get sold. They’re planning on bulldozing it and building a love hotel. Neither Jung Joo or Poong San like that idea. Wow, that is cheesy, Gun Woo. Jong Bae says that the view from there is amazing. Poong San sounds like he’s freaking out as he asks if their Warm and Cozy will completely disappear. Jong Bae says that it’s too bad, but they can't do anything. He tells them to say that they will take over, to save the Warm and Cozy.

Poong San and Jung Joo are considering Jong Bae’s words. Both of them know that they don’t want to lose the restaurant. They decide to talk to Gun Woo. Jung Joo tells him that they’ll pay the rent on time every month and she’ll offer up her shabby house for collateral instead of a deposit. That was her other deal. He's good – he’s getting what he wants, which is being able to give her the place. Plus, she’ll be there where he can find her again, if he comes back. Like he doesn’t care, Gun Woo answers, “Okay, sure.” If the two of them take care of it, he has no reason to sell it right away.

Poong San adds that they will do a good job of running the Warm and Cozy, so Gun Woo should come back anytime he changes his mind. Trying not to reveal how much he really wants that, Gun Woo deadpans that that won't happen. He’s never coming back to Jeju Island. Jung Joo can’t believe he just said that and is crushed.

She goes to see the Mayor and deliver the bad news, while thanking him at the same time. He tries to act like he’s supportive of the idea. She says that the Warm and Cozy has good conditions attached to it and she’s come to like it. If thw place disappears, she feels like she would never see Gun Woo again, so she got scared. Mayor says that he’ll also be honest with her. The reason he was helping her move to another place was because he doesn’t like that she’s staying with Gun Woo. But Gun Woo said he's leaving. Mayor adds that he feels like a coward, but he likes it. In the spot that Gun Woo’s left behind... he’s going to stand there beside her. Ack! Mayor just stop! You’re only torturing yourself (and Jung Joo) now.

When he sees Jung Joo’s sad face – and that she might be getting ready to ‘dump’ him – he revises that to say that instead of by her side he’ll stand behind her. That's a safe enough place for him to avoid being rejected by her. Jung Joo replies that if you stand in a safe place and only give safe answers, you'll only get wounds that won't hurt too much and that will quickly heal. And we know that she’s talking about herself now. Being safe... should be a good thing, right? And neither of them believe it.

Hyung and Hae Shil are at Caffe Pascucci. He plops a sad looking shaved ice bowl in front of her. He doesn’t look very happy as he asks if she knows how many times he switched out that green tea shaved ice until she showed up? He had it waiting for her so that she could have something refreshing as soon as she came. It's already the fourth one! Boy, he looks disgruntled. Heh. Hae Shil asks why she would want something cold when she just came from working in the ocean? And avoids saying sorry. Hyung answers that when he texted her, asking about ordering her a shaved ice, she should've replied that a hot coffee would be nice! Why did she ignore his text? Hae Shil answers that she couldn't take her hand phone into the sea.

Hyung isn’t satisfied. Because he’s not upset over the shaved ice, but that she ignored him. He says that when she texted him, he always sent a reply regardless of what kind of meeting he was in. Starting to smile, she tells him that she will make sure to send him a reply going forward. She thanks him for the ice and takes a bite. She declares that it’s so refreshing. I love her deadpan sarcasm. Hyung doesn’t want to stop sulking yet, but she just ignores him.

Hyung adds that he really wanted to tell her this, because he felt so disappointed. Aren't her text messages too dry? There is no adoration in her texts! He is such an insecure dork. Heh. Hae Shil asks how there can be adoration in texts. Hyung answers that she doesn’t have to add emoticons, but she could at least add a couple of squiggles... 'Tee hee!' She should at least add a smile. Hae Shil is stifling that smile again. She’s got it. She won't forget the squiggles and smiles. Hyung is almost satisfied.

Hyung wants them to go to Seoul this weekend and stop by his house while they’re there. This is the first she’s heard about his house in Seoul. Hyung says that he’s been staying in Jeju for the opening of the new building at the resort. He was planning on going back to Seoul around now. She should come with him. Hae Shil replies that she has no thoughts of living in Seoul. They should meet whenever he comes to Jeju Island. Heh. I love her. Hyung asks if Hae Shil is suggesting that they have a long distance relationship?

Later, Hyung is chilling in his suite, thinking about their conversation. Noona is there. So is the dog. Noona says that the future of his relationship with Hae Shil is obvious. Even Tutu knows that, right? the dog’s name is Tutu! Noona pets Tutu’s face and makes baby noises at her. Hyung asks: the future that even a dog can figure out is that he’d leave for Seoul and she’d remain in Jeju? Noona asks if he’s then planning on living on Jeju Island for the rest of his life for Hae Shil? Or will he bring Hae Shil to Seoul? Hyung frowns and says that he was going to go with the second choice. But he was rejected.

Noona smiles and says that Hae Shil is smart. Honestly, if Hyung takes her to Seoul, Hyung’s almighty Song family would attack her to death and tear her apart! Hyung isn’t even listening now. He says that he liked the second choice, but he has no choice but to go with the first choice. Noona can’t believe that Hyung’s going to stay on Jeju Island for the rest of his life! Hyung looks at her and says, “Jeju Island for life!”

Hyung is at the Warm and Cozy with Jang. Jang confirms one more time: Hyung doesn't want anyone from the Song family there. Hyung wants him to prepare for a wedding with only the neighbors from Jeju. Yup. His family is not going to like that. They’re not going to like that he’s staying on Jeju, either, but he’s going to protect his woman. Aw. Hyung says that he needs to discuss the matter with Gun Woo and find a good date.

Gun Woo tells Hyung to come up with a good date and find a good place somewhere else. He is such a butthead. Hyung doesn’t see what the problem is. He’s skipping the proposal and hastening the wedding. Gun Woo replies that regardless of what kind of a wedding Hyung’s planning, he won't be at the ceremony. That should be a warning sign right there. Alarm! Alarm! Gun Woo stops looking at Hyung as he says that he won't be on Jeju Island. He’s going to quit there and go travel.

Hyung can’t believe what he’s hearing. Gun Woo’s going to quit? Gun Woo says that he got sick of it. He must have been doing this for too long. Hyung answers that Gun Woo promised him, but now Gun Woo’s making him say this again? Pathetic fool. Gun Woo acts like he doesn’t care and that doesn’t hurt. Anyways... Congratulations on Hyung’s wedding in advance. He’ll text Hyung.

Hyung asks if Gun Woo’s making any sense. Gun Woo looks away - waiting for the lecture to be over. Even if he’s going to run off to God knows wherever, Gun Woo should stay for the wedding. And why didn't Gun Woo come to the introduction last time? Gun Woo answers that that ajumma and he don't get along. Hyung says that Hae Shil will be Gun Woo’s sister-in-law. Let's call her here now and exchange greetings. Gun Woo mutters, “What sister-in-law?” If you nitpick about it, Hyung and he aren't even full-fledged brothers. Hyung looks at him and asks, “What?” Another alarm should be going off, since you know Gun Woo doesn’t feel this way. Hyung asks if Gun Woo really plans on not coming to his wedding? Gun Woo answers that there will be no problem even if he doesn’t attend Hyung’s wedding. And the last thing he says, he really means: So good luck on your wedding.

Noona is telling Dead Face Harpy that Gun Woo is planning on quitting the restaurant and leave Jeju Island. Dead Face Harpy asks why. Did something happen? And you know the answer to both of those questions. Tell her! Noona answers that nothing happened. Gun Woo’s old habits have returned. Even though you were *just* having that conversation with Mi Ra about what Gun Woo would do if his father ever came back. Maybe you were drinking then, too, and that’s why you’re not thinking of it. Dead Face Harpy asks if Jung Joo is going with him. Noona says that Jung Joo is taking over the restaurant instead. Then she whines, because she told Gun Woo to make Jung Joo leave, so why is he leaving instead? Um… yeah. Good question. Why would Gun Woo leave all of a sudden, after strongly declaring he wouldn’t… right after he told you that he would leave if his father showed up… I wonder… Dead Face Harpy’s wheels are turning.

Noona asks about the guy that Dead Face Harpy was engaged to. He’s the second son of Taehwa Group, right? Noona says that Dead Face Harpy’s ex-fiancé has come to Jeju Island. She saw him at a golf course. Dead Face Harpy shifts in her seat, uncomfortably.

Dead Face Harpy meets with Fiancé. He wants her to come back to New York and start over. She asks if he ended things with the girl he was seeing. Fiancé laughs and says that he was just seeing her for fun. Do not like him. She deserves him. Persuade her, dude! Fiancé declares that breaking off the engagement over that... was rash of him. Dead Face Harpy answers that she endured and made an effort to go with the engagement. Fiancé corrects her whining, saying that the reason she endured it wasn't just for love alone. Then he smugly points out that she's not going to find another guy with his kind of background, so they should start over. And I almost feel bad for her… but Karma’s a rotten woman and she brought it on herself.

Gun Woo holds two plane tickets for Han Airlines: one for himself and the other for Jung Joo. And they spelled his name ‘Baek Kunwoo’ and her name ‘Lee Jeongju,’ it looks so weird! Dead Face Harpy arrives. Although I don’t think she was there to see him. He’s just unlucky. She announces that they’re plane tickets. Cool looking bar. Gun Woo asks what she’s doing there. She answers that she was meeting someone.

Dead Face Harpy sits and says that she heard he was leaving. Is it true? He looks at her and sighs. She points out that he has two tickets. Is he leaving with Lee Jung Joo? Gun Woo answers that she doesn’t need to be concerned about it. She said she was meeting someone? Go ahead. Ouch! I love it!

Instead, Dead Face Harpy says that she left him behind several times, but he never stopped her. He’s not someone to stop a girl or hang onto her. Gun Woo asks if Dead Face Harpy is complaining that her didn't do that? Dead Face Harpy answers that she not. She's telling him not to change. He never changed for her, so she doesn’t want him to change for another girl. Wow, this girl is really selfish. Don't become desperate and hang onto someone in the future. Gun Woo answers that must mean that he should hang onto her. He feels really desperate right now. He gets up and walks away. Dead Face Harpy huffs.

Dead Face Harpy heads back for her purse. Fiancé asks where she’s going. He tells her to sit. She says that she’s just going to say what she needs to say and leave. She’s going to New York. He thinks he’s got her. She corrects him that she’s not going with him. There is a guy she wants to go with, but he's not asking her. She should be safe and go there before him.

The Warm and Cozy. Mayor is eating. Poong San conspiratorially tells Mayor that there won’t be any problems with his help! Mayor says there’s going to be another gathering there the next month. Poong San adds that Mayor should bring over that niece of his then. Heh. Mayor asks if Poong San means the one who looks just like him? Poong San replies that he means the pretty niece. Inadvertent slam! Mayor should tell her to come so she can have a delicious meal. Mayor glares at Poong San a little and then laughs because Poong San likes her.

Jung Joo arrives to clean up. Mayor wants to help. She doesn’t want him to. They fight over a tray and soup spills on her bandage-covered burn. Gun Woo arrives to see Mayor dabbing the bandage off. Of course, he gets jealous. Buthe isn’t going to say anything. He starts to go upstairs when Jung Joo stops him and says that they should clean this up together. Her voice is cheery and inviting. Gun Woo glares at Mayor and then asks why he would. Almost belligerent, Gun Woo tells Mayor to keep doing what he was doing. Catch conches, forage for herbs... He can be used from now on! Jung Joo can’t believe that he just said ‘used.’

Gun Woo goes upstairs, throws the tickets on his bed with annoyance, and takes off his jacket. Jung Joo comes upstairs and asks why he’s doing this? Gun Woo turns around so the tickets aren’t obvious. He asks what he did. Jung Joo sighs, annoyed, but then spies the pair of tickets. Gun Woo notices and throws his jacket on them. What did he do? She answers that he left without a word, and now he’s so cranky. Gun Woo asks if he was wrong in what he said? Jung Joo wants to know if Gun Woo is saying that she’s using the mayor now? Gun Woo answers that as soon as he said he was leaving, she brought in the mayor and made Mayor do everything he used to do. Sarcastically, he adds that Jung Joo’s pretty incredible.

Instead of explaining that that’s not what just happened… Jung Joo nods and says that, yes, Mayor is so helpful now that he's helping her. He's different from someone like Gun Woo, who is so irresponsible that she has to drag around like a cow. Gun Woo replies that Jung Joo must have worked hard dragging him around like a cow! Please go on back and keep doing what she was doing with the mayor. She responds that that’s fine. If he’s going to leave, he should leave right away. She glares at him and leaves. Gun Woo sits on his bed with a sigh. He picks up the tickets and sighs. He should be begging her to go with him...

Later, Gun Woo comes downstairs, where Jung Joo is wiping off glasses. She glares at him and goes back to wiping. Stiffly, like he’s trying not to call attention to himself, he sits down next to her. He’s going to ask her to go… He wordlessly picks up a bowl and starts wiping. He moos. And I roll. That was hysterical. She looks at him with a glare. He stops. He says that he’s a cow! Jung Joo can’t believe he just did that. He apologizes and says that he must've lost his mind. The words just came out. That's not what he was going to say. And here it comes…

Jung Joo cuts him off and tells him to go to sleep. She has no energy left to waste on him. She has to leave at dawn tomorrow. Gun Woo wants to know where she’s going. She says that she’s going to her old house to plant a clementine tree. It was a stretch to think about leaving Warm and Cozy right away. After she plants a clementine tree, she’ll see it bear fruit in a couple of years, right? By that time, her house will be fixed and it'll also be easier to leave this place. Gun Woo doesn’t like that. He’ll be far away, so he won't be able to see it.

Jung Joo tells Gun Woo that wherever he goes, he needs to send her his address. When the clementines ripen, she’ll make jam and send it to him. Gun Woo sighs. Because it seems like she’s so ready to put him aside. Jung Joo asks what he was going to say. Gun Woo tells her, “Never mind.” He doesn’t like clementine jam, so she doesn’t need to send him any. He gets up to go back upstairs.

Jung Joo stops him and asks why he’s leaving. Gun Woo sighs and turns around to face her. He says that he can never tell her or anyone. Straightening his shoulders and not looking at her – and his eyes look a little glassy – he says that he wasn't going to ask her anything… like ask her if she’d put out a rock for his paper. But never mind. She should plant her clementine tree. By the time she sees her clementines... she’ll become really cool, Lee Jung Joo. He goes upstairs and Jung Joo sighs sadly.

Gun Woo sits on his bed and looks at the tickets. He pulls out the necklace and slides it in Jung Joo’s ticket. He puts it on his beside table and sticks his ticket in his jacket pocket.

Jong Bae meets with GWD, who says that thanks to Jong Bae’s help, his heart feels much lighter. Jong Bae asks if GWD really isn’t going to see his son? Dad answers that Jong Bae should tell Gun Woo that he got a promise that Dad would never show up in front of him.

Mending their diving equipment. Yoo Ja tells Hae Shil that she did well by selling the house. Bok Nyeo tells Hae Shil to forget the past. Hae Shil can prepare for the wedding with that money. Hae Shil asks what wedding... like she doesn’t want a wedding. Right. Yoo Ja says that in a dream the night before, Hae Shil’s dead husband appeared. Is it because she saw someone who looked like President Jin who caused the accident? Hae Shil is understandably shaken. She saw President Jin Tae Yong? Yoo Ja nods that she did. Bok Nyeo snaps at Yoo Ja to stop saying nonsense! She throws something at Yoo Ja as she asks why she would bring up Jin Tae Yong?

Hyung arrives and waves hello. Because he’s a dork. He and Hae Shil go back to his house and sit by the pool. Tutu is with them. Hee. He asks who they were talking about before. Hae Shil’s expression completely changed when she heard his name. Who is Jin Tae Yong? Hae Shil answers that he’s the man who killed her husband. Hyung apologizes. Hae Shil says that she hates to even think about him. Her expression is sour.

Hyung changes the subject. She sold her house. She must've made some money! Hae Shil answers that since she became rich, she’ll treat him today. Hyung tells her no thanks. Then he says that since she doesn’t have a house, they should move in together. Hae Shil answers that she’s not going to Seoul. Hyung replies, asking if he asked her to go to Seoul? He’s going to live on Jeju Island. With her. Many people get a house in Jeju and live there these days. Hae Shil replies that they don't need to live together while they’re dating. Hyung asks when he asked her to date him. He stands up and announces that he found a place for their beginning. Ms Kim Hae Shil, let's get married. Out comes the ring. Not too ostentatious. Good job, Hyung.

Later Noona can’t believe it. Hyung’s getting married? At Gun Woo's restaurant? Is he Won Bin or Lee Hyo Ri? Noona waves at him and says that she doesn't care. He can do whatever he wants. Hyung sighs and says that there are no problems left now... but Gun Woo is the problem. Why is he acting like this all of a sudden? Hyung says that Gun Woo’s supposed to be coming over, so he’ll talk to him them.

Noona says that she’s been thinking. Gun Woo was worried last time that his father might've shown up. Did they meet, by any chance? Wow, I can’t believe that Noona put two and two together. Hyung wonders if that’s it. Noona says that she ended up looking into his father... As she passes Hyung a flash drive, she says that she thinks it'll be good for him to know.

GWD shows up at the Warm and Cozy. He looks very emotional as he looks at it. Like he’s saying goodbye to Gun Woo, the son he’s never met. GWD turns to leave, but stops because Gun Woo comes outside and puts the Open sign out. GWD looks like you could knock him over with a feather. Gun Woo smiles at him and warmly invites GWD to come in. GWD starts blinking rapidly and shakes his head. He turns around – a lump obvious in his throat – and walks back to his car. Gun Woo turns around, but as the car starts, he stops. Quickly he turns around to watch GWD climb in his car and be driven away.

Gun Woo finds Jong Bae and asks if it was his father. It was, right? Jong Bae sadly says that he must have decided to see Gun Woo before he left. GWD told him to tell Gun Woo that he'd never show up again. Gun Woo says that that’s good. Calling Gun Woo ‘Maendorong,’ Jong Bae points out that GWD said he wouldn't show up and he’ll also keep Gun Woo’s secret for him, so stay there if he doesn't want to leave. Gun Woo asks how he can look at Hae Shil when he knows the truth. He got a plane ticket too. He’ll get going. Jong Bae sighs and said that it’s better to have Maendorong leave and bury the truth. If what he remembers is the truth, it would be the worse.

Jong Bae flashes back to the incident, when he was working as GWD’s driver. GWD wrenches the keys to Mom’s car out of her hands, protesting that he said, “no!” How can she drive like this? Since she lost her keys, she stumbles over and gets in Dad’s car, keys left in the ignition. Yes! I knew it! She drives off, with Dad pounding on the car. He quickly hops in her car and drives off.

Now in his restaurant, Jong Bae looks at the picture and says that the car this woman drove caused the accident. Did they switch on the road? Um, NO. Really?

Gun Woo sadly sits in the storeroom, thinking about his dad and what Jong Bae said and how sad Dad looked. Jung Joo says his name, but he doesn’t answer. She puts her hand on his shoulder and asks if something happened. What's wrong? He looks over at her hand and puts his hand in hers, while leaving it on his shoulder. He says that no matter how much he thinks about it... he should hang onto her.

He stands up, still holding her hand in his. He says that he has to go see his brother. When he comes back... he has to tell her something, so she shouldn’t go anywhere and wait for him. She nods. He’ll be back. I’ll wait for you, Gun Woo!

Hyung’s looking at the info on the flashdrive. [Jeju, Hit-And-Run Suspect Jin Tae Yong] Gun Woo's father's name is... Jin Tae Yong? He remembers the name. That’s the man who killed Hae Shil’s husband. Hyung gets a call from Noona that Gun Woo is in her suite.

As she hangs up, she tells Gun Woo to be clear with Hyung as to why he’s doing this. Gun Woo asks what more he can say. He decided to leave. Noona protests that Hyung said he'd never let Gun Woo go unless he has a clear reason. Gun Woo sighs. Someone enters the house. It’s not Hyung but Hae Shil. Gun Woo visibly shrinks to see her. Noona tells Gun Woo that Hyung invited her today, so that he could introduce them. Gun Woo can’t meet Hae Shil’s eyes as he stands and gives her a respectful bow. He's killing me. Hae Shil calls him Maendorong and corrects herself. She says that she’s glad to see him. He can barely utter a ‘yes.’

Hyung enters. And Gun Woo is slumping. It’s killing me how deflated he looks. Hyung looks at Hae Shil and then he and Gun Woo’s eyes meet. They both realize that the other knows. Gun Woo looks down and then snaps at Noona for calling out of nowhere? He has work to do. He has to get back. Bye. He tries to go, but Noona grabs him, asking what’s wrong. Hyung tells Noona to leave him. Everyone looks at Hyung, surprised. His voice gentle, Hyung tells Gun Woo that he can leave if he feels uncomfortable. And that makes me cry. The brothers look at each other and Hyung’s eyes say that he’s sorry.

Hae Shil interjects that she got in the middle of this without asking. If it's uncomfortable, she’ll just leave. Wrist grab by Hyung. He says that he can't let her go. Gun Woo looks at him, sad. Hyugn looks at Gun Woo and says that he’s sorry to just let him leave. Trying to sound bright but really about to cry, Gun Woo replies that everything will be fine once he leaves. He’ll leave. He forces a smile on his face and says that he told Hyung he was going to leave. He gives Hae Shil a small bow and starts to go. He pauses, like he really wants to stay, but he goes. And I am really crying. That was so sad! Because Hyung knows what he’s doing and is just going to let him do it.

Hyung sighs, because he knows what just happened. He lets go of Hae Shil’s wrist and takes her hand as Noona asks why he did that. Outside, Gun Woo plods along. As he nears the edge of the resort, he stops. Glancing behind him, he drops his head, because he’s losing them all. But then he reminds himself that Hyung will be happy and it makes him smile. With determination, he starts walking again.

Jung Joo is sitting at her vanity. Gun Woo definitely had two tickets. She looks at herself in the mirror and asks if one was for her. Her reflection nods. She thinks about him asking if she wants to come with him. Did he mean that? She asks her reflection that if Gun Woo asks her to come with him, without knowing anything, would she go? Happily her reflection nods she will. Jung Joo sighs sadly.

Jung Joo goes downstairs to wait for him. The door jingles but it’s not Gun Woo. It’s Dead Face Harpy. I sigh. Jung Joo tells her that Gun Woo went out. And she’d like it if Dead Face Harpy stopped barging in there after business hours. Dead Face Harpy says that she won't be coming anymore. She’s leaving Jeju Island. With a small smirk, Dead Face Harpy says that Gun Woo is leaving too, isn't he? Jung Joo asks if Gun Woo is going with her. Dead Face Harpy says that she’s decided to go where Gun Woo goes.

A slight pause and then Jung Joo tells Dead Face Harpy that she’s lying. Small eyebrow crease from Dead Face Harpy says that she is. Jung Joo says that based on what Dead Face Harpy’s done so far, it must be a lie. Gun Woo asked her (Jung Joo) to come with him. Smirk as Dead Face Harpy asks if Jung Joo even knows why Gun Woo is leaving. Jung Joo’s face says that she doesn’t. Like a true mean girl, Dead Face Harpy says that it involves his father. Gun Woo didn't mention anything like that to you, did he? Jung Joo doesn't even know why he's leaving. Is she sure that he even asked her to come with him? Gack! I hate her!

Dead Face Harpy declares that regardless of what's happening to Gun Woo, she said that she’d go with him. Which is all true. She’s just leaving out the part where Gun Woo told her to get lost. Jung Joo didn't say that, now did she? She decided to stay here and continue running this place, right? And then pleasantly, with a smirk, Dead Face Harpy tells Jung Joo to be well. She saunters out and Jung Joo reels.

Mayor sees Dead Face Harpy leave. He hurries inside to check on Jung Joo. She’s sadly sitting on the steps of the dining room. Mayor gets sad and almost leaves, but then turns around. He asks why she’s sitting there like that? Jung Joo explains that she thought Gun Woo came back, so she ran downstairs... but she ended up flopping down here. Mayor says that it’s okay that she wasn’t coming down to greet him. He tells her to stay there; he’ll come to her side. He sits next to her and slowly puts his arm around her. He starts patting her arm to comfort her.

And Gun Woo arrives to see it. Of course. Could his evening get any worse? He turns away and tells himself – his voice thick – that it's okay. He was going to leave on his own. Squaring his shoulders again, he walks out of the Warm and Cozy and the episode ends.

Thoughts

We finally got the truth (almost) about the accident which killed Hae Shil’s husband. Mom did it. Drunk and angry, she ran over the man and then drove off. I totally called this! Mom is such a nasty witch. No wonder none of the other families liked her. Not only did Dad go to prison for her, but she let him and then viciously lied to his son about it. (As well as everybody else.) Hopefully, at some point, Jong Bae will clarify things – that Dad isn’t a murderer at all.

Both Dad and Gun Woo are such tragic noble idiots. Like father, like son. They both chose to make themselves miserable for the people they love. And the most gut wrenching scene was the one with Hyung where they said it without saying it. That was so horrible to watch.

Gun Woo’s being an idiot. Jung Joo’s being an idiot, because she’s not believing what her heart keeps telling her, and I wish Dead Face Harpy would get run over by a fishing boat. Getting keel hauled is much more painful that simply getting whacked by a bus. I love that Gun Woo keeps brushing her off, though. But it proves what Jung Joo said: he’s been a good person all along.

A little annoying that the Hong Sisters are making us go through the angst, but hopefully it won’t last too long. After all, there’s only 3 episodes left. Poor Gun Woo. Poor Jung Joo. Poor Mayor. Poor Dad.

Everyone’s suffering seems to eventually lead back to one selfish woman. (And that’s kind of true of ‘The Great Gatsby’, too.) If she hadn’t have been selfish, they would have stayed on Jeju Island and so would Jung Joo’s parents… Jung Joo and Gun Woo would have grown up together and Gun Woo would never have had a stupid dysfunctional relationship with Dead Face Harpy and would have eventually fell in love with Jung Joo. The only one who would have been out of luck in this scenario is Hyung, but fate wanted him with Hae Shil, so she would have lost her husband anyway. And they probably would have met the same way, too.
