Warm and Cozy Episode 15 Recap

I can’t believe it’s the last week. I’m going to miss these two.

We return to Jung Joo running through the airport, looking for Gun Woo. The things that were just voiceover are now texts. Which makes me even feel more emotional, because she actually said them to him, not just what she’s thinking.

{Gun Woo... Now that you left, I feel like I'm going crazy.}

As she searches, she thinks about all the things that he said that she believes now:

Holding her hand on his heart and saying that he’s really hot right now.
Telling her not to go anywhere else and asking if she wants to come with him?
Holding her hand when she comforted her and saying that no matter how much he thinks about it, he should hang onto her.

{I didn't believe what you said.}
{To believe those words, I didn't feel confident enough.}
{You were as desperate for me as I was for you, weren’t you?}

She starts to cry again.

{Baek Gun Woo, where are you?}
{Regardless of whatever you think, I'll keep liking you.}

But she doesn’t find him. And a woman in shorts and tennis shoes just walked by. Wasn’t expecting to see that outside of the US. Jung Joo leaves the airport and stops to sit by a fountain. She voiceovers that Gun Woo left like that and the text messages she sent were left unread, even a year later.

Shots of Jeju.

[One Year Later]

Far off shots of a man in the kitchen. They try to fake us out that it’s Gun Woo, but it’s not. It’s Poong San. He’s giving orders to two of the students from the diving school and they’re calling him ‘Chef.’

Jung Joo arrives with a bag of octopus, which Yoo Ja caught. When Poong San asks when Jung Joo’s going to catch them one as a lady diver, she starts to say she’ll go out tomorrow but Yoo Ja cuts her off and tells her to just take care of the baby. Baby? What baby? She is *so* not the mom. And since he’s asking about her being a lady diver, that means that she graduated. Jung Joo replies that she’s never going to get better at diving, if she’s always taking care of the baby. Whose baby?

No! Mayor arrives with a stroller and the baby. He says that he got baby vaccination shots. Jung Joo squats down and calls the kid “my baby.” She asks if Mayor snapped a commemorative picture of when the baby got his shot, but Mayor forgot. He suggests that they take one now. Very cute selfies with the baby. Poong San asks Jung Joo to take the baby to his father – whew! So it’s not Mayor! – before they get busy with lunch. But there’s still the question of whether Jung Joo’s the mother. She can’t be. Because Gun Woo hasn’t come back yet.

Sports car. Jong Bae asks if the driver is on Jeju Island – it’s Gun Woo and he just arrived. Jong Bae says that the problem he gave Gun Woo brought him back after all. Gun Woo says that it did. Problem? Exonerating his Dad? Jong Bae asks if he’s decided and Gun Woo has: he has to see his father.

Gun Woo opens the curtains of a suite in the hotel and tells Jang that he’ll only be there for a week. You need to be getting in your car and driving to the Warm and Cozy! You make me struggle. Gun Woo verifies that Hyung and Hae Shil aren’t in town until next week, right? That’s correct. They're on a business trip in Japan. Aw, I want to see the newlyweds! Gun Woo asks Jang not to tell either of them that he came to Jeju Island. And he’s calling Hae Shil Noona now. Hee.

Jung Joo’s at the hotel with the baby. She waits for the elevator. The baby screams and throws his rattle. She picks him up and tells him they should go see his dad. Right as the elevator doors open with Gun Woo inside. She’s shocked to see him. He’s shocked, but also hurt, because she has a baby now. Which means that she didn’t wait for him. Exiting the elevator, eyeing the stroller, he tells her that it’s been a long time. It has. She asks when he arrived. Today. Boy, this is awkward. Gun Woo can’t stop looking at the baby.

Gun Woo asks about the baby? She says that he’s not feeling well. Might be the shot he got today. Gun Woo answers, “Really?” When that wasn’t what he was asking about. The elevator doors start to close but Gun Woo stops them. He tells her to get in and slides the stroller in after her. He gets her floor (3) and presses the button.

Gun Woo says that the baby is cute. Does he... look like her? Good way to ask the question that’s killing you. Jung Joo replies that he does look like her, doesn't he? Gun Woo’s face freezes as his worst fear is confirmed: it’s her baby. But I’m sure it isn’t. But it serves Gun Woo right for staying away that long. Even though the baby would be a lot smaller if Jung Joo were the mom. He starts to walk away from the elevator and kicks the rattle. He decides to run up the stairs to the 3rd floor. But she’s already gone by the time he gets there.

In the hotel room, Jung Joo is deep in thought. And it’s not Jung Joo’s baby but her ne’er-do-well cousin and her ‘friend.’ Friend thanks Jung Joo for taking care of the baby so they could hang out. Jung Joo answers with a barely audible ‘sure.’ Friend is not paying attention. Friend sighs and says that if only she didn't get pregnant in Brazil... they’d be living there in Jeju with her. And she would have killed both of them by now. Friend sighs and says that she’s just thankful that Jung Min got a job. She adds that today's the last day of their vacation, so can she come over and babysit again? Their Han Byeol loves Auntie Jung Joo! Another barely audible ‘sure.’ This time Friend notices. Friend gives Jung Joo a ‘Ya!’ to get her attention. She asks what’s wrong with Jung Joo. Jung Joo says that she just saw someone. She can't tell if it was real or a dream. She’s a bit out of it.

Gun Woo is sitting, staring at the rattle and chewing on his thumb. He tells himself that if Jung Joo had gotten married or had a baby, Poong San would've posted the news on social media. He checks out Poong San’s feed and there’s nothing like that on there. He scrolls some more and there’s Jung Joo with Han Byeol. Gun Woo sighs and says that they do look alike.

Friend is super excited that Jung Joo ran into Gun Woo – since she knows their history and how he was her white knight. What did they talk about? Jung Joo says that they just said hello and he asked which floor she was headed for. Friend is put out. That's it? He didn't follow her? Jung Joo shakes her head – and we know that he did. Friend lists the events: He came without telling her. He wasn't even excited when he ran into her. No, super shocked because Jung Joo had a baby. Friend concludes that for him, things really are over between the two. Jung Joo sighs and admits that it’s been over a year.

Friend is blunt: she didn't even date him. Jung Joo counters that they did like each other a lot. Friend tells her to look at Han Byeol whenever she feels down and feel better. Because there’s nothing more encouraging when you’d like to be married then to look at a baby that you aren’t going to have. Friend is going to go down to the sauna, but Jung Joo grabs her arm. Jung Joo says that she has to go out and look for him. Good girl!

Jung Joo runs down the hall and Gun Woo calls her name. He’s sitting on the couch by the elevator – waiting for her, of course, because it’s definitely not over for him. His crest-fallen face totally said that. He gets up and walks over to her. She can’t hold back her smile. She asks if he came there to see her. Instead of professing his feelings… Gun Woo holds up the rattle and says that she dropped it on the floor. And if he didn’t want to see you, he would have just sent it over to the Warm and Cozy. But he wanted to see you.

She tells him ‘thanks’ and tries to take the rattle. He pulls it out of her hand. He says that he saw that the baby's name is Han Byeol. Jung Joo wants to know how he knew her Han Byeol's name. Gun Woo says that it was up on Poong San's social media account. So he was looking at Poong San’s social media? Jung Joo has the same thought. She asks about him checking Poong San’s feed. Why was Gun Woo there, then? He tells her to forget about it and asks what Han Byeol's last name is. It's not Hwang Han Byeol, is it? Oh, his jealousi rears its head. Jung Joo asks if that bothered him… Just in case she got married to the mayor? Jung Joo looks a little pleased that he’s jealous.

Instead of confessing then, Gun Woo tells her, “Never mind.” What would he do if he was curious about that? He can’t change it, if the baby’s name is Hwang Han Byeol. He holds out the rattle for her to take. She does and he says “Bye.” She tells him to wait. He’s leaving after giving her this toy? She sounds a bit indignant. And rightfully so. She’s really wanted to see him and he’s ignored her. He asks if they should talk about the old days? He doesn't want to think about it. Because it hurts too much.

Gun Woo starts to go but Jung Joo says that her Han Byeol looks a lot like her, doesn't he? Everyone tells her that he looks exactly like her and that he doesn't take after his dad. Because this question is eating at him – he asks who the dad is. Instead of saying that it’s her cousin, she says that Gun Woo’s seen him, too, a long time ago. And I grunt/growl in Jung Joo’s general direction.

Jung Joo’s plan worked, because Gun Woo goes with her to the hotel restaurant. He looks really uncomfortable. She asks why he didn't call anyone before he came? He answers that it was because he wasn't planning on meeting up with anyone. He’s there for a short time for business. She processes this: if they didn't meet by chance, he would have left without seeing her. There’s a beat and then she says that she’s felt bad towards him this whole time. Gun Woo freezes as Jung Joo talks. She says that she didn't believe what he said back then. She didn't recognize how earnest he was. She says that she was sorry. Gun Woo looks at her.

She asks if he wasn’t hurting a lot on his own, was he? He looks away again. She says that she replied to his text a year ago, but it didn't seem like he checked those. Gun Woo didn’t know that she sent him text messages. He never turned on the hand phone that he owned while he was there, since he left Jeju. She says that it's been a year, so there’s not a chance that they will be sent to him now. Gun Woo looks like he’s kicking himself.

Jung Joo says that even though he said that he didn't want to talk about the past, she’s glad that she was able to apologize to him. He looks at her – a little wistful. She suggests - if it’s okay with him – that he come and have a meal at the restaurant before he leaves? Instead of answering that, he asks if she wasn’t hoping for anything from him? She wasn’t hoping that he’d come to see her? She can hardly get “I did” out. Gun Woo sifts slightly in his seat and there’s a flicker of a smile. Yay!

Gun Woo picks up the rattle and says that she used the story about Han Byeol's dad as bait, didn't she? Did she think that he’d fall for that? After all he’s dealt with Dead Face Harpy. He says that he’s confiscating this bait and leaves before she can respond. That was a good bluff, since you know you did fall for that.

In his room, Gun Woo is hunting frantically through his bag. He finally finds his very dead old phone. Quickly he plugs it in to charge. But the texts aren’t there. Gun Woo makes a face like he’s in pain. He pulls out his current phone and tells the phone company that he wasn't able to receive a very important text message from a year ago because he switched hand phones. Could they restore those, by any chance? Guy says no. Gun Woo protests that they’re very important! It's only been a year. Is it that difficult to get them back?

Jung Joo is with Poong San. She’s looking at the texts she sent Gun Woo. If these messages had been received a year ago, would things have been a little different for them? Poong San asks what kind of messages they were. She says that she did send them, but they were never delivered. They’re a heart... floating in the air? She sighs and puts her head down on the table. Poong San tells her to resend them, now. Jung Joo replies that Gun Woo's leaving again soon.

Poong San sighs and says that Gun Woo is too mean! He really didn't plan on seeing anyone? She says that he saw Poong San’s SNS feed and Han Byeol's picture, too. She admits that she pretended that it was her baby rather than her nephew, but Gun Woo didn't believe her. Poong San is a little ticked at his hyung for being a butthead. Poong San says that can’t believe that Gun Woo didn’t believe her. Should he swing a powerful punch at Gun Woo?

Gun Woo’s phone dings as Poong San’s SNS has an update. It’s a picture of Mayor with Han Byeol. The caption reads: [Hwang loves Han Byeol]. Gun Woo is momentarily shaken, but quickly recovers. Hwang Han Byeol? Does Poong San think he’d believe this? But Gun Woo starts chewing on his thumb just the same.

It bugs him so much that he runs up those stairs again and finds Han Byeol. Panting, he says hello and says that he’s Lee Han Byeol, right? He’s Auntie Lee Jung Joo's nephew. Big old grin from Han Byeol. It’s so cute! Friend is there. She asks if he looked for them everywhere on the third floor to return his toy? A broadly smiling Gun Woo – who is ecstatic that his girl is still his girl – says that babies find these toys precious, don't they? He says that he’s Jung Joo's friend.

Friend puts two and two together and asks if he’s Baek Gun Woo. He smiles and says that he is. She smiles and says, “Right, Jung Joo's first love!” Gun Woo is really surprised at that news. Friend gushes that he went to the international high school, right? He’s Jung Joo's first love! Gun Woo stands up – and looks like you could knock him over with a feather. Friend adds that he’s the perfect prince of Jung Joo’s dreams on a dark horse in Jung Joo's dreary heart! Friend adds that they didn't do much for Jung Joo, but it's all on them – I guess she means her and Jung Min – that Jung Joo got to meet her first love, Gun Woo, again. Gun Woo laughs, a little flustered. He thanks Friend and says that he didn't know about that. Omo from Friend. Jung Joo must not have told him that. She'll be mad if she finds out. Friend makes him promise not to say anything. Of course, Gun Woo won’t. And then he smiles to himself because he’s her first love.

Mayor is looking at that picture posted on Poong San’s feed – with a big grin on his face. Oh, my gosh, please don’t tell me Mayor is still pining for Jung Joo. MAII says that people might see this and think that it's a picture of father and son. Mayor poo-poo’s that idea. They don’t look at all alike. MA says that if things had gone well between Mayor and Jung Joo, they'd have had a baby like him. MAII agrees.

Mayor glares at them and tells them never to joke about that. If they plan another useless romantic surprise, he’ll never be able to go to the Warm and Cozy because it's so uncomfortable. MA says that on the day of Hae Shil’s wedding, after Mayor declared in front of all the town residents that there was nothing going on between him and Jung Joo, they don't plan any surprises anymore. Mayor declares that he has no feelings left for Jung Joo. So, unless they want to bar him from getting married... they shouldn’t ever set him up with Lee Jung Joo. He gets up from the table.

And speaking of Mayor’s wife… Jang is driving Noona. He asks why she came to Jeju Island all of a sudden? She sighs and says that she came there because it was too frustrating for her. Jang can’t tell Hyung. Jang remings her that she’s prohibited from drinking at the resort. Noona mutters that Hae Shil assigned a bodyguard to watch over her. How embarrassing. Jang reminds her that when she broke up with her boyfriend last time, she almost got arrested for assault while intoxicated. Noona rips off her sunglasses and protests that she quit after that! This is really upsetting!

Noona orders him to pull the car over. She’ll get some air. Jang pulls over and she gets out and tells him to go ahead. Once he’s out of sight, she smiles mischievously.

Next we see Noona, she's pigging out on nuts and slurping down herbal drinks. At least I think it’s herbal drinks. They’re in a juice box. Mayor arrives, picking up trash. He yells at her and tells her that she can't drink at a cultural property. Mayor tells her to please come out and pick up everything before she does. Rebelliously, she starts throwing trash on the ground and pops the nut in her mouth. Mayor can’t believe that she just did that.

He yells at her to please come out! She glares at him and makes a face. She throws some more shells on the ground and pops another nut in her mouth. Unfortunately, it goes down the wrong way and Noona starts choking on it. She starts to freak out. Mayor drops his bucket and hurries over to her. She throws her arms around him and grabs him. He starts slapping her back and is able to dislodge the nut. Interesting Heimlich. He asks if she’s okay and she demurring says that she is.

Mayor grabs her container of nuts and sits. He starts eating them as he watches Noona pick up all her trash. She stops in front of him and he tells her that she trespassed onto cultural property, drank alcohol, and littered, so she’s getting punished. She makes a face at him. He tells her to pick up the black bag, too. She responds that she didn’t throw it out. Mayor tells her to pick it up! She does.

He orders her to come sit by him. What bothers her so much that she’d drink in broad daylight? Noona says that she got dumped. She was super nice to him, but he said she wasn't the one. She says that she beat him up so badly that he was in the hospital for eight weeks – dang, Noona! What about his golf career? He got discharged, but she’s still hurting. Now defensive and indignant, she says that her heart was torn apart, so she drank to sterilize her heart. So what?!

Noona gets up to go and Mayor notices a big rip in the seam of her skirt – right on the bum area. Way to keep your eyes where they should be, Mayor. First those bras and now this… He partially hides his eyes with his hand. Not looking in her direction, he orders her to wait. He takes off his jacket and ties it around her waist. She blinks at him. He says that she has a tear in her skirt. Noona is mortified. Mayor says that other people can't see that her heart is torn. But they can see if her butt is torn. He tells her to go. Noona asks what he’s getting at? He says that he’s the town mayor! She should be really scolded, but since her butt is torn and so is her heart, he’s letting her off today. He grabs his bucket (and the nuts) and goes.

Hae Shil has arrived home. Sounding a little worried – Jang asks if she wasn’t supposed to come in a week? Hae Shil says that Noona is here. She came first just in case Noona got in trouble. Then she tells Jang not to tell Noona that she’s already arrived. As Hae Shil walks away, Jang bemoans the fact that everyone in that family keeps telling him to keep their whereabouts a secret. Why? He’s always caught in the middle. It's driving him nuts!

Gun Woo is meeting with Jong Bae. Jong Bae says that his theory is exactly what he told Gun Woo. It's possible that the one who killed Hae Shil's ex-husband wasn't his father. Dubious, Gun Woo asks if Dad told him that he didn't do it, but he took the blame for it? Jong Bae says that President Jin denied it, but Jong Bae thinks that it’s possible for Dad to throw his life away for the woman he loved. That's the kind of man Jin Tae Yong was! Like father, like son. Gun Woo seems to be considering this.

Jong Bae says that he went to Mom’s grave on her death anniversary last week. President Jin sent someone to place roses and rice cakes there. The fact that he’s telling Gun Woo this, means that Gun Woo didn’t go. Wow. His self-imposed exile made him miss his Mom’s death anniversary. Considering he always went the day before because it was important to him to go, that really says a lot. Maybe that’s part of why Gun Woo has agreed to see Dad, too, because he misses having a parent. Jong Bae sent Dad a message that his son wants to see him. So they should hear from him soon. Gun Woo says that he thinks that Jong Bae’s theory is completely wrong, but that one in a million chance bothers him so he came back to Jeju to check. Although, why couldn’t Gun Woo meet Dad in Seoul? Of course, we couldn’t reconcile Gun Woo to everyone if he’s not on Jeju, but still… If answers are all he wants, he could have met up with Dad anywhere.

Jong Bae asks if Gun Woo checked on Miss Lee? Gun Woo replies that he thought he'd go crazy when he saw her holding a baby. He wasn't going to see her this time, and pretend to be cool about it, but he should take that absurd bait and go check on her. He tells Jong Bae to call him when he hears something.

Gun Woo heads to the Warm and Cozy, which is hopping, carrying some bags. Poong San is in the back and tells Hyun Jin to get him salt. Another round of ‘Yes, Chef!’ Gun Woo laughs. He walks further inside, really pleased with how well the restaurant is doing. Jung Joo comes up behind him and greets him like a customer. He turns around and looks at her, with a slight smile on his face. She’s shocked that he’s there. He says that he came there to eat. He comments on how well business is going. She says that it’s not that great today.

Poong San comes out and sees him and calls Gun Woo ‘hyung!’ Gun Woo smiles, calls him Poong Chef and asks if he’s been doing well. Poong San significantly wiggles his chef’s rag and says, “Yes, of course.” Gun Woo laughs. Turning back to Jung Joo, he holds out the bags. Gifts for Han Byeol. Surprised, she thanks him. He sucks some air between his teeth, folds his arms and says that he should also meet Han Byeol's dad. He’s curious as to who he is.

Yoo Ja and Bok Nyeo arrive. Happy greetings between them, with Yoo Ja calling Gun Woo ‘Maendorong.’ Just like the old days, except they like him now. Gun Woo’s got a big smile on his face as he greets them and shakes their hands. MA and MAII are at the Warm and Cozy and spot Gun Woo. They immediately run to tell Mayor. Mayor already knows. He sounds so thrilled, too. They tell Mayor that Gun Woo thinks the baby is Mayor’s ! Mayor scratches his head.

Gun Woo grabs one of the pictures of Han Byeol from the display and looks at it. He looks at Jung Joo, scolding. She says that Han Byeol is her nephew. She just made up the story about Han Byeol's dad. He answers that it was a joke? He was really shocked when he came there. Poong San asks if Gun Woo thought Han Byeol was the mayor's baby? Gun Woo says that he didn’t. The baby doesn’t look like Mayor at all. And given how strong the genes are in that family, it’s a logical assumption.

Gun Woo smiles at Han Byeol and affectionately says that he looks exceptional, cute, and classy. He says that he was really bothered. Doesn't Han Byeol look too much like him? Poong San asks ‘who?’ and, with a glint in his eye, Gun Woo says himself. He is so wrong! Blinking from Poong San. The ajummas and restaurant staff turn to look, shocked. Jung Joo looks at Gun Woo, puzzled. Gun Woo holds up the picture and says that Han Byeol is cute and classy. And the baby is *so* cute! Jung Joo protests, asking how Han Byeol looks like him?

Gun Woo replies that Jung Joo said that Han Byeol’s her baby! So he thought there was a possibility that he could be the dad. Which, actually, if something had happened between them, would have fit the age of the baby better. Jung Joo starts to sputter. Everyone is listening. She asks how it’s possible that Han Byeol’s his? Almost poetic, Gun Woo says, “That night.” That night really bothered him. Poong San’s mouth drops open. Jung Joo’s is already agape. She looks over at the ajummas and the staff – who are shocked – and says that it’s not true! They never spent a night like that. She pinches Gun Woo and says that he must've lost his mind!

She suggests that they go talk for a bit and pulls him out of the room as he loudly protests, asking if he made it up? The night she doesn't remember! That night! She gets him up to the bedroom – and his bed is still there. Worried, she asks when they ever spent a night like that? Gun Woo says that they spent countless nights here... so it's possible to spend one night that she doesn't remember. He notices that his bed is still the same. And the room is still the same.

Gun Woo sits on his bed. She sits next to him and declares that she remembers everything! She remembers all the nights with him! He hisses and twists his finger into her arm, saying that that’s such a lie. That night she doesn't remember because she was drunk – he leans in closer and slowly says – she doesn't know what happened between them.

Her voice sorry, she apologizes for not believing what he said. He replies that those were simply words. But she’s been doing really well! Jung Joo says that what happened that night still upset her. She says that Mayor told her that he came to see her that night. Gun Woo sighs – and his face says that this issue still hurts, that she didn’t believe him. Jung Joo says that if she had remembered that night, she’d have been more excited to see him. Then she would've never sent him away on his own.

Gun Woo looks at her, his eyes vulnerable. Jung Joo asks if they couldn't start to talk through those misunderstandings and come clean? Gun Woo looks down. But his face says that he wants that. Jung Joo doesn’t see it. Jung Joo says that even though Gun Woo said that he didn't want to talk about the past, can he tell her about the night that she doesn't remember? She looks at him, hopeful and pleading. He sighs sadly.

Flashback to them sitting together at the table, his arm around her. He chuckles because she’s passed out. He tucks her hair behind her ear. Later he sits by her bed and says that he’ll give the Warm and Cozy back to her. The pinky swear bonus with a kiss.

Gun Woo is about to say something, when Poong San yells up that there’s a phone call. An issue with a reservation. She wants to call the person back later. Poong San says that he wants her to call him back right away. Gun Woo says that her present is too busy to talk about the past. She should call the man. He’ll leave. He gets up and goes downstairs. Jung Joo sighs.

As Gun Woo exits the Warm and Cozy, Mayor arrives. Gun Woo says that it’s been a long time. Mayor asks if he’s leaving. Gun Woo says he is. He turns to go, but Mayor grabs his hand and won’t let go. Poong San comes out to see them holding hands and Mayor telling Gun Woo that they should go have a drink. Mayor drags him off. Has there ever been a wrist grab-drag between men before?

Mayor’s House. He brings a table with chicken and Soju on it. Looks yummy. Gun Woo wants to know why he has to come to Mayor’s house and drink with him? Deadly serious, Mayor says that since the day Gun Woo left, he hasn’t been able to drink in public. Gun Woo can’t believe that it was because of him. Mayor says that he got over Jung Joo that day, but if he drank somewhere besides his house, people would say that he still had feelings for Lee Jung Joo, so he didn't drink. Gun Woo can’t believe that Mayor resisted the urge to drink to keep Jung Joo from being to be insulted.

Mayor says that since he resisted the urge for a year, he’d like to drink with Gun Woo to make up for it. Can Gun Woo do it? Gun Woo picks up a bottle and, like it’s a piece of cake, asks how much one year is worth. He stops opening the bottle when Mayor says that there should be a box in the fridge. Gun Woo clears his throat and says that he will make some food. Should they start after they eat? Mayor starts taking off his jacket as he says that because it’s bad to drink on an empty stomach, Gun Woo needs to make something good.

Hyung has arrived at the villa, with Jang carrying in a bunch of boxes and bags. Hyung says that he’s going to make it a surprise, so he didn't call his wife. Poor Jang. She doesn't know that he followed her there, does she? Jang says he didn’t tell her because Hyung said not to. At least Jang is smiling right now. Hyung’s going to hide the gifts like a scavenger hunt. Because he doesn’t want it to be too easy or difficult, he makes Jang be his test subject.

Hae Shil arrives home. Hyung sneaks in behind her and switches off the light. He creeps up and pops up next to her, illuminating his face with a flashlight (so it’s completely creepy). Hae Shil screams, grabs her purse, and wails him in the head with it. Heh. She switches on the light and sees that it’s her husband. He’s moaning because she got him really good in the mouth.

Applying medicine on Hyung’s lip she scolds him, Hae Shil says that she told him not to arrange any more surprises, since they're dangerous. Last time, he lit candles and almost burned the curtains down. He tried to put a pearl within a clam shell in the sea and almost didn't make it out. He replies that he said he’d make an effort. Hae Shil sighs and asks what his surprise is. A scavenger hunt! For their first wedding anniversary, he bought a few pieces of jewelry. He tells her that he hid them in the room.

She tells him that by their actual wedding anniversary day, Hyung put one in a very obvious spot. He looks around, not realizing what she’s saying. She found one already? She reaches over and puts her hands on his cheeks, saying that it's right here, her black pearl! They are too cute. Hyung plops his hands over hers and says that she always makes it worthwhile for him to make an effort! He starts to laugh – like a drunk Santa. He’s such a goofball.

Poong San is stewing as he and Jung Joo wipe dishes. The mayor took Gun Woo away, looking very serious. The two never did get along. They were always fighting over her. What if they have a duel? Worry wart! Jung Joo asks why they would do that now. The Mayor got over her and Gun Woo... he's gotten over her. With a tone of voice that says that she’s being really thick, Poong San says that from what he sees, Gun Woo hasn't gotten over her.

Poong San asks for her phone. He changes the back cover, saying that even if it changes, the contents remain the same. You need to listen to this man. He tells her to trust Gun Woo and that the new back for her phone is a gift. He wonders what Gun Woo and Mayor might be doing when they don't get along?

Gun Woo and Mayor are still drinking. That’s eight empty bottles! Gun Woo calls Mayor, ‘Mayor,’ and Mayor slurs at Gun Woo to call him hyung! Drunk Gun Woo agrees and calls him Hwang Hyung! Mayor mutters at Gun Woo, calling him annoying. Adding the adjective ‘old’ to Hwang Hyung, Gun Woo goads Mayor about now being drunk, after resisting for such a long time. Mayor slurs that of course he wouldn't be drunk over this. Swaying, Mayor says that he’s pouring the last sterilizer over his wound. They both drink another shot.

Mayor asks if Gun Woo’s planning on not hanging onto her but instead just leaving again? Is he that great of a guy? Gun Woo – not nearly as drunk as Mayor – says that he’s pretty great, but leaving’s also better for the both of them. Mayor laughs with disbelief and asks if that’s what he’s calculated. Mayor says that Gun Woo has to let go a little. The best way is to beat Gun Woo up. But he’s the town mayor, so he can't do that. Instead, Gun Woo should drink some more. Aw, he’s trying to help them both. Such a good guy.

Gun Woo sighs and says that Mayor looks to be more drunk. He adds the Wookie Hyung! Mayor says that there have been exactly 25 guys who have asked him to set them up with Lee Jung Joo. Five of them were handsome like Gun Woo. Seven of them were tall. And even two were super rich. Gun Woo says that it's hard to possess all of those qualities, like he does. Heh. Mayor says that he’s going to set them up with her one by one from now on. Once Gun Woo leaves, he can get her married within a year!

Gun Woo slams his chopsticks on the table and demands to know why Mayor is doing this? He's not some match-making service! Mayor yells that Gun Woo knows that he doesn't like Gun Woo. He’ll push ahead even if it's just to spite Gun Woo. Mayor pours a glass of Soju and puts it in front of Gun Woo. He’ll take away one guy per drink. Twenty-five guys. Does Gun Woo want to have at it? Gun Woo looks at the glass, then the Mayor and then starts drinking. That’s so sweet. He just needs to do those types of things in front of Jung Joo!

Mayor brings a barely conscious Gun Woo back to the Warm and Cozy and dumps him on a stool by the counter. And sways. Jung Joo asks what happened to Gun Woo. Gun Woo can hold his drink. Mayor says that even if he can, it would be tough. He chuckles. Gun Woo fought off against the odds of twenty-five to one. Wow. That’s determination… and love, man! Jung Joo’s not following.

Mayor says that on the night she was drunk, he lied to her. He’s repaying that debt tonight. Mayor sighs and slaps Gun Woo hard on the back. Gun Woo slightly stirs. Mayor says that he even made Gun Woo take a hangover cure, so he'll open his eyes soon enough. This time...she should say something that's good for her and Baek Gun Woo, who has lost his mind. Mayor leaves.

Jung Joo gently tries to get Gun Woo up. He's out of it.

Mayor goes out to the pier. He has the ring in his pocket. He takes it and throws it into the sea and smiles. Instead of selling it.

Jung Joo sits next to Gun Woo. She starts to stroke his hair but hesitates. Then she does. He stirs and sits up, holding his head. She asks if he’s okay. He squints at her and smiles. It's Jung Joo. He says her name again and says that he misses her. She just looks at him, frozen. Smiling, he says that he thinks about her all the time... What should he do? Jung Joo takes that in and starts to get a little emotional. Gun Woo says that he really wants to go see her. So it’s obvious that he doesn’t think she’s real. Pathetically, with his eyes welling up, he says that he misses her…. Lee Jung Joo.

Trying not to cry, she says that she does too. She’s really missed him, too. He smiles, laughs and says that that’s good. He reaches over and touches her face and tells her he loves her. She reaches up and touches his hand and a tear rolls down her cheek. He passes out again. She sits there, holding his hand, tears flowing.

The next morning, Gun Woo wakes up in his bed at the hotel, hung over. He groans several times. He sits up and opens one of the bottles of water that was sitting on the night stand. He drinks and sighs some more. Rubbing his head, he looks at his phone. Did Jang bring him here? He tries to remember, but sees Jung Joo’s smiling face instead. He wonders if he saw Jung Joo.

Phone rings. Arg! I was so hoping never to see her again. It’s Dead Face Harpy. He almost doesn’t answer it, but answers with a ‘Wei?’ All smiles, Dead Face Harpy says that she just arrived on Jeju Island. Gun Woo asks if she came with Joon. Joon? No, he’s coming a little later. Dead Face Harpy wants Gun Woo to check out a place she found for her upcoming wedding to Joon. Gun Woo doesn’t want to. She’s next to a sunflower field and says that it should look cool. She tells him that Joon is his friend, so Gun Woo should come take a look and persuade him. Gun Woo tells her to take care of her own wedding. He hangs up. Dead Face Harpy says that she can get married anywhere, since Joon is the heir of Youngseok Group. Big old smile on her face.

Gun Woo still is trying to remember what happened the night before. He starts to call Jang, but notices a kid’s bandage on his hand.

Jung Joo is over at Friend’s room. Friend is surprised that she was with Baek Gun Woo at this resort last night? Smiling, Jung Joo says that she brought him there with Jang. Friend asks: He kept sleeping and she kept looking at him? A little embarrassed, Jung Joo says that she was so happy. Friend asks if something good happened to her. She says it did. But he might not remember since he was drunk…. Just like she was then. Jung Joo says that it’s fine. Regardless of what he feels, she’ll keep liking him. Then she gives Friend Gun Woo’s gifts.

Gun Woo has changed his clothes. He calls Jang and asks what happened the night before. Hyung answers instead. Omo! Gun Woo checks to make sure he called the right handphone. Hyung is smiling as he tells Gun Woo that they should meet. He tells Gun Woo to come to his office.

Gun Woo reluctantly sits in Hyung’s office. He says that he was going to keep his visit a secret. Scolding, Hyung says that he knows. If he hadn’t have changed his plans, he could've missed Gun Woo! He was going to bring Gun Woo in and tell him something anyway. Gun Woo asks why Hyung made him come by. He could've called. Hyung fires back that he can't reach Gun Woo on the phone!

Gun Woo sighs and tells Hyung to tell him, since he’s there. Hyung tells him to stay on Jeju, if he wants. Hyung plans to move to Japan with Hae Shil. He’s going to stay there using the excuse of purchasing the resort in Okinawa. Gun Woo asks if Hyung told Hae Shil. Hyung is planning on it and about Gun Woo for their wedding anniversary. Hyung says that he thinks she might understand the situation for his sake. Gun Woo replies that it may not be a situation she could be understanding of.

Hyung asks if there’s something else other than what he knows? Gun Woo replies that it shouldn't get any more complicated than it already is... He says that he shouldn't have come. He should leave soon. Hyung tells Gun Woo to just wait until he talks to Hae Shil this time. Gun Woo says that things are comfortable for him the way they are. Liar. He tells Hyung not to try too hard. Hyung sighs.

As Gun Woo leaves Hyung’s office, Hae Shil gets off the elevator. She catches a glimpse of him. In with Hyung, he asks what she found shopping. She says that she didn't find a gift, but she might have seen something odd. Is Gun Woo here? Hyung lies and says that he isn’t. Hae Shil says that she hopes Hyung wouldn't hide anything from her. Hyung reminds her of what he asked of her before they got married. Once she finds all the gifts, he’ll tell her everything. I was wondering what he was talking about and then I remembered how he asked her to forgive him, just once, when she hates him.

Gun Woo is meeting with Jong Bae. He says that it's probably a useless theory. Since Dad isn’t calling, he probably doesn't have anything to say either. Jong Bae says that Dad will contact him soon. Why hasn’t Dad done it by now? He asks Gun Woo to meet with his father before he goes. Gun Woo replies that it’s better for Hyung and Hae Shil if he remains the only eyesore.

Gun Woo sighs and stands. He announces that he’s leaving today. After you had those 25 glasses, you’re just going to leave? Jong Bae can’t believe Gun Woo’s going to leave Miss Lee behind. Gun Woo says that he feels bad even thinking about leaving with her. She's doing really well. He tells Jong Bae to please take care.

Noona is at Caffé Pascucci with Mi Ra. She asks Mi Ra if it’s hard to get into the lady diver's school. Mi Ra’s surprised. Noona says that she just became interested. Not because of Mayor or anything… Speaking of Mayor… Mayor arrives with his bike. Noona sees him and says that it was worthwhile for them to come there for a coffee. Mi Ra asks what she means. Noona’s eyes are following Mayor. At the counter, he’s clearing his throat and asking for a hangover cure. Noona smiles. Nothing more attractive that someone sick and miserable. Heh. Mi Ra says that Wook is the town mayor. She’s met him too, right? At Hyung’s wedding! Noona thinks, so it was that man then?

Flashback. Noona finishing off another glass of wine. She walks by the storeroom and see Mayor sitting on the floor, stifling his crying. Oh, my gosh! Mayor looks so pathetic. It’s the bitter weeping of a broken heart.

Back in the present, Noona says that Mayor’s heart was also being torn apart then. Mayor gets his drink and loudly clears his throat as he leaves. And I laugh because it’s so *not* romantic and Noona is entranced. Noona asks if the town mayor is the head of the lady diver's school. Mi Ra says that he is. Noona says that she should attend the school.

Jung Joo is at the resort. She sees Hae Shil and greets her as they pass. Hae Shil stops her and asks if Gun Woo is on Jeju. Jung Joo says that he is. Now that she’s confirmed that she *did* see him, Hae Shil wonders why he’s avoiding her? She asks Jung Joo if she knows why Gun Woo feels uncomfortable? Jung Joo says that she didn’t didn't know that things were uncomfortable between them. Hae Shil asks that she tell Gun Woo that she’s sorry if she was really mean to him before. She’d like to get along with him since they’re family. Aw. It’s bothering her that Gun Woo’s absent from Hyung’s life.

Gun Woo’s gone back to the Warm and Cozy. Poong San says that Jung Joo went to the resort to see Han Byeol. Gun Woo responds that he was going to say goodbye before he left. He should just go. Poong San says that she will be there soon. Gun Woo should wait for her. Gun Woo sighs and looks down. He sees some bandages. They’re the same ones. Gun Woo picks up a picture of Han Byeol and tells him that it’s his aunt who put this on for him, then? He looks at the bandage and says that Jung Joo put this on so that he wouldn't be hurt... but what should he do? Not leave. Confess. Stop being a noble idiot!

Jung Joo returns to Gun Woo’s room. But it’s Dead Face Harpy who answers the door. Jung Joo asks why Dead Face Harpy is in Gun Woo's room? Dead Face Harpy doesn’t answer but tells Jung Joo to come in. She sits on a chaise and starts drinking her tea. Jung Joo is looking around the room for Gun Woo. Dead Face Harpy asks what she’s doing and tells her to sit. Jung Joo sits. And because she’s a witch – Dead Face Harpy tells Jung Joo that she and Gun Woo met up in New York and came back to Korea together. Jung Joo didn’t know?

Dead Face Harpy brushes some hair away from her face so that the engagement ring is really obvious. She announces that she’s getting married on Jeju Island. Gun Woo must not have told her. Jung Joo repeats that: Dead Face Harpy’s getting married. Dead Face Harpy says that Jung Joo doesn’t feel like congratulating her, do she? Jung Joo can go.

Jung Joo repeats it: getting married… She nods, knowingly and crosses her legs to prepare to get to the truth. Who is Dead Face Harpy getting married to? Dead Face Harpy stops sipping her tea. Jung Joo says that it’s not Gun Woo, so why would she talk like it is? Dead Face Harpy coughs and looks really guilty. And just a little bit afraid. Jung Joo smiles tightly and says that it's fun for Dead Face Harpy when she jumps to the wrong conclusions, isn't it? She really looks uncomfortable. Get her, Jung Joo!

Jung Joo says that she was waiting to teach Dead Face Harpy a lesson for a long time, but she gave up since she thought they wouldn't see each other again. But fate arranged it for them to run into each other. Squirming by Dead Face Harpy. Jung Joo asks if Dead Face Harpy thought she would be mistaken because Dead Face Harpy was in Gun Woo’s room. Forcefully, Jung Joo declares that Gun Woo likes *her* so much! Dead Face Harpy looks really pathetic at the moment. Hee! Jung Joo says that she and Gun Woo were there together last night. Who does she think she’s fooling! Dead Face Harpy is shocked by the force of Jung Joo’s voice. Jung Joo tells Dead Face Harpy to leave while she’s still being nice. Jung Joo repeats, that she said, ‘leave.’ Isn’t she leaving?

Jung Joo escorts Dead Face Harpy out the door, with Dead Face Harpy still holding her tea cup. Jung Joo motions with her two fingers that she’s watching Dead Face Harpy and goes back inside. Dead Face Harpy whines that Jung Joo must have lost her mind! Then she has to act like there’s nothing odd going on when some people walk by.

Inside, Jung Joo is starting to worry because Gun Woo’s suitcase is gone. Her phone rings. It’s Jong Bae. He tells her that Maendorong is on his way to get on his flight. She didn't know, did she? Jung Joo can’t believe that Gun Woo left.

It's a five o'clock flight. Jung Joo starts to run as we hear Gun Woo’s drunk confession:

I think about you all the time... What should I do? I really want to go see you. I love you.

Jung Joo thinks that she’ll never let him go again. She wills him not to go. She… she loves him too.

Night. Jung Joo returns home. It’s obvious that she wasn’t successful in catching Gun Woo at the airport. She sits on the stool. She looks at the texts. He didn't receive them a year ago... Even if she sends them again, he probably won't receive them. She sighs. And then she notices that he saw them. Gun Woo texts back:

{Are these the texts I didn't receive a year ago?}

Jung Joo starts texting him:

{Where are you now?}
{Did you leave?}
{Did you leave, you jerk?}
{You don't remember what you said last night, do you?}
{I remember everything.}
{Where are you?}
{Where are you!} Her text voice sounds desperate.

Gun Woo walks up and sits down beside her. She’s shocked. He didn't leave? He replies that he didn't leave. He holds up his hand, indicating the bandage, and says that this was her doing, wasn't it? She nods. She stayed by his side last night, didn't she? She nods. And he knew she did, because he did the same thing.

He pats the counter and says that they talked, sitting there last night. Her face says that they did. Gun Woo says that thanks to Mayor, he completely let go of his mind. Because of that, he couldn't leave.

She asks if he remembers what he said? He tells her to forget everything that some drunk guy told her. She sighs and looks down. Because she was holding on to it, for hope. Gun Woo tells her to hear it again while he’s sober. She looks back at him. Just like the night before, he says her name, reaches up and touches her cheek. He says, “I love you.” That makes her smile widely even as a tear rolls down her cheek. Where’s the kiss?

Thoughts

Aw, that was awesome. In every way. From what Gun Woo said to Jung Joo crying with happiness. Just awesome. The only other thing that should have happened is a kiss. But I'm not complaining.

There were so many things that I liked about this episode:
  1. Jung Joo totally gave it to Dead Face Harpy and kicked her out of Gun Woo’s room. She’s finally not going to be tricked anymore.
  2. Dead Face Harpy is afraid of Jung Joo. Since Gun Woo is still friends with Dead Face Harpy, this is really good, because Dead Face Harpy isn’t going to try anything with Jung Joo anymore.
  3. Jang is loyal to Hyung and the family, but he hates how they keep secrets from each other with him caught in the middle. I love how much Jang loves it when Hyung is happy. His little groaning session was awesome, too.
  4. Noona looking at Mayor hacking and hungover and she finds him attractive. That one still cracks me up. And it’s his good guy – after all, she fell in love with him when he was getting on to her about *litter* – that won her heart. I love the fact that it’s Noona, because that means he’s literally going to be Gun Woo’s Hyung.
  5. Noona saw Mayor at his worst – weeping with a broken heart – and it makes her like him all the more.
  6. Gun Woo is going to meet with his Dad. It means that he’s considering the possibility that Dad isn’t total scum and that Mom caused the accident.
  7. Hae Shil is suspicious of what’s going on with Gun Woo.
  8. Hyung asked for a year and is now going to tell Hae Shil the truth. I really hope that she lays into him for not telling her sooner and letting Gun Woo drift to spare her feelings!
  9. Everything that Gun Woo said when he was drunk.
  10. Mayor got Gun Woo drunk so that he would confess everything he said to let Jung Joo know just how *much* he loves her. Not only was that an awesome plan, but it’s something I would expect from Mayor. It’s what someone taking care of one of his constituents would do. Mayor really redeemed himself for lying to Jung Joo about the night she was drunk, by pushing the pair together.
  11. Gun Woo drank 25 glasses of Soju – after all the other stuff – to keep Mayor from setting Jung Joo up with other guys.
  12. Gun Woo didn’t end up dead or in the hospital with alcohol poisoning from drinking so much! Now, that should be something that happens on a k-drama. That’s dramatic and realistic.
  13. Gun Woo found out that he’s Jung Joo’s first love. If he ever lacked confidence before about how she might feel, he doesn’t anymore. And he needed that.
  14. Jung Joo cried when he told her (not drunk) that he loved her. That was so good. So, so good.
  15. The ajummas were super happy to see Gun Woo. Because they grew to like him when he stopped being a slacker.
  16. Gun Woo felt at home when he came back to the Warm and Cozy. Because I’ve said all along that he’s needed to feel part of a family and Sorang Town’s residents have become his family.
  17. It seems like both of Gun Woo’s siblings are going to be part of that family, too. Since I don’t believe that Hae Shil’s going to want to live in Japan forever.
  18. Gun Woo calling Mayor ‘Hwang Hyung.’ I wonder if he’s going to do it when he’s not drunk.
  19. Gun Woo remembered what happened when he was drunk. Or at least figured it out.
  20. ‘Yea, Chep!’ and Poong San loving his authority and being a chef.
  21. Noona’s tantrum – throwing nut shells on the ground – and Mayor taking her to task.
  22. The fact that Mayor was not a wuss when he was making Noona clean up the trash.

Things I am hoping happen in the last episode. Is it really the last episode? Sniff.
  1. Gun Woo and Jung Joo happy together.
  2. Kissing! We got some in previous episodes, but this is them *together* kissing.
  3. Gun Woo back in the Warm and Cozy’s kitchen. I love Poong San, but Gun Woo should be the Warm and Cozy’s chep.
  4. Hae Shil embracing Gun Woo. Just thinking about her embracing him and apologizing for Hyung being stupid and giving him that acceptance makes me cry.
  5. Dad revealing that it *was* their nasty mother, then him and Gun Woo reconciling. Their harpy of a Mom still makes me mad. That she (1) let Dad take the fall for what she did, (2) felt justified in hating him after that, (3) that she lied to everyone, especially Gun Woo, about what kind of man he is, and (4) that she was so nasty about it on Gun Woo’s 19th birthday, she was a nasty miserable woman.
  6. The truth about Dad coming out, so that the people of Jeju don’t think him evil anymore.
  7. Dad and Hae Shil reconciling, with her forgiving him for lying about it.
  8. Hae Shil and Hyung goofiness (specifically Hyung).
  9. Mayor and Noona romance! Give the boy a girl already!
  10. Poong San and Yoo Ra romance. Give the boy a girl already!
