Suspicious Housekeeper Episode 9 Recap

The episode begins in Sang Chul’s hotel room. Song Hwa announces that she’ll take responsibility for him now. Bok Nyeo emerges from the bathroom. Song Hwa can’t believe she’s there and Sang Chul looks guilty. She asks if he’s done… packing up ? Song Hwa can’t believe that Bok Nyeo’s *still* interfering in her love life. And I suspect that she’ll help whoever to get revenge on Bok Nyeo, because she’s just that type of person. Bok Nyeo mentions that Sang Chul’s beloved children are awaiting him. Sang Chul tells her to go home first. There’s a pause and Bok Nyeo replies that she understands. I’m not sure what his face is saying at all.

Sang Chul leaves the hotel with Song Hwa. They end up next to the river where his wife killed herself. I’m just waiting for her to make some slip up so that he knows that it was her that pushed his wife over the edge. Sang Chul announces that he wants to start over again. What? You’re going back to her? Please be dumping her because you love your children more.

Sang Chul asks Song Hwa if she’s ever been to this place. She hasn’t and as she starts to ask why they’re there, he announces that it’s the river where his wife died. She uncomfortably turns to look at the water. Since mostly it's her fault that his wife took her life. Sang Chul muses about the bottom of a river only being visible during a drought, and that he is finally, seeing my bottom. He says that it was all his fault; he was too shallow, so it all became a mess. When he tells her she doesn’t need to be doing this because she feels sorry for him, she denies that and says it’s because finally saw his sincerity, his heart. And I say ‘whatever,’ you’re only doing this because you’re knocked up and your latest meal ticket dumped you.

But Sang Chul tells Song Hwa that this is also from his heart: he wants to start over again, as the children's father. Yes! Dump her! Dump her! Song Hwa can’t believe he didn’t choose her. Even though you totally weren’t wanting his kids.

Back at home, Song Hwa is still stunned. She can’t believed that he turned her down. After she was going to rescue him , he says he wants to be a dad? This is why I hate her. She was going to "rescue" him? She goes and stands in the shower, still fully clothed. Because she has to be extra dramatic. It wouldn’t surprise me if she did something rash, like try to kill herself, just to manipulate him some more. How were you going to save him anyway? And on her counter sits the Father rock. That she couldn't be bothered to return, even though it was in her purse. Because she's *that* type of person.

Sang Chul is finally home. And I’ve done a double fist pump. As he walks in, the kids are there with celebratory balloons and there’s a sign that says, “Welcome, Appa.” And I’m getting a little emotional. So is Sang Chul. Sang Chul asks why the welcoming. Is he some kind of a guest? Each of the kids welcome their Appa home, complete with a big hug from Hye Gyul. Sang Chul is smiling and so are the kids.

The next day breakfast, Sang Chul happily watches his kids eat. Finally Han Gyul tells him it’s been a long while since he had homemade food, so he should eat. It’s really nice to hear her call him Appa. As he’s about to dig in, Bok Nyeo comes and takes his soup. But then she brings back a hot bowl. He tells his kids thank you for accepting him despite all his mistakes and shortcomings. Han Gyul says it’s because they can see his heart for them. She tells her siblings that from now on, they're going to become a tight knit family and Hye Gyul imitates Bok Nyeo.

Even though Bok Nyeo’s just standing there, she’s obviously touched. Her eyes are red, because she’s about to cry. Han Gyul tells her that she has to go somewhere with them. And the look on Bok Nyeo’s face is almost afraid.

Sang Chul is at Grandpa’s house, kneeling before him. Grandpa wants to know if he signed the paper giving up his parental rights. Auntie is there too. Sang Chul is humble and asks Grandpa to watch over him one more time. Grandpa doesn’t want to. Auntie tries to get him to be reasonable. Grandpa says that he’s not sure how Sang Chul changed his kids’ minds, but Sang Chul is kind of punk who'd run away the first chance he got. Sang Chul can’t argue, because that has been him.

Auntie asks her father to go easy on Sang Chul just this once. She doesn’t want to see her family torn apart. Sang Chul starts to verbally beg, when Grandpa tells him to do whatever he wants. Slapping the table, Grandpa says he’ll do the same and storms out of the room.

At the amusement park that Bok Nyeo always goes to, the kids order the family set. They ask Bok Nyeo to tell them what happened with her family. Their dad is home because of her and they want to do something to help her. They don’t believe that she killed her family; she couldn’t do that. Does she think that it's her fault that they died? They beg her to tell them, with Hye Gyul saying that she’ll protect Bok Nyeo. Bok Nyeo looks at Hye Gyul and for a moment there, it looks like she’s going to break, but instead she announces that she has to go and prepare dinner. They start to beg, but Bok Nyeo reminds them that if they keep asking about her past, she will quit. The children are hurt but they don’t say anything else.

As Bok Nyeo walks toward the Eun home, the words of her EMIL (evil mother-in-law) ring in her ears. She looks on the verge of tears as she walks.

Back at the house, Han Gyul enters the living room, where all the rest of the kids are and going to look at Bok Nyeo. But when she turns around to speak, it’s not Bok Nyeo but Auntie in a complete Bok Nyeo outfit, including the same hair. Han Gyul asks Auntie what she’s doing and Auntie announces that she…

Is Park Bok Nyeo. She’s even taken on the speech pattern of Bok Nyeo. It’s creepy! Han Gyul wants Auntie to stop and to go change her clothes, but Auntie asks if that’s an order. As Han Gyul starts to protest, someone enters and Auntie Bok announces that their Aunt Na Young has come. And in walks, or rather falls, Bok Nyeo, acting just like their aunt. And it’s nice to see Choi Ji Woo not playing a robot. Even though she does it well. Bok Young complains about all the places she’s hurt herself that day and Han Gyul is really freaking out, asking Bok Nyeo why she’s doing this. Bok Young asks if Han Gyul has any medicine for the pain. And I’m wondering when this bad dream is going to end.

Auntie Bok reaches into the magic bag and pulls out some pain spray. Bok Young then proceeds to trip and mess up the other kids’ game by falling on the table. None of the other kids seem to realize that the two women have switched places. Bok Young asks Han Gyul to spend the night and as she’s begging, Han Gyul finally wakes up. To find Bok Nyeo standing by her bed, looking at her. Han Gyul asks if she’s the real Bok Nyeo and Bok Nyeo replies that their aunt is coming.

As Han Gyul comes down the stairs, Auntie enters and promptly falls, mirroring events in Han Gyul’s dream. Han Gyul cries that there’s just no way. Auntie announces that she’s run away from home and asks to stay the night, repeating the request when Sang Chul enters. Auntie says it’s because Grandpa won’t hire a housekeeper. He’s being as stubborn as poop. Koreans and their bowel humor. She declared that she’s going on strike! Doo Gyul reminds Auntie that dad lost his job, so she decides to leave, even after Bok Nyeo tells her that she’s included in the dinner that’s now ready. Auntie hurries out.

Bok Nyeo begins to clear away Auntie’s portion but Han Gyul asks her to eat with them instead. Bok Nyeo declares that she will not eat, because she’s not part of their family. Everyone looks at each other sadly as Bok Nyeo walks away from the table with that serving. Doo Gyul leans in and says that he’s been thinking about things and he wonders if Bok Nyeo-nimc ould it be a reincarnation of the Omma. After all, she came exactly after Omma's 49 days. And…

Just then, Omma’s picture falls over for no reason. Is that Omma objecting or confirming that Bok Nyeo’s there at her behest. Everyone thinks it’s weird. Bok Nyeo comes and fixes the picture. Everyone continues to be weirded out.

Later, in the boys’ room, Doo Gyul keeps on with his theory. Could Bok Nyeo be their mom’s ghost? Her food tastes just like Omma's. And Hye Gyul says that Bok Nyeo’s hands are ice cold. Se Gyul mentions that Bok Nyeo never smiles or get angry and they’ve never seen her eat or sleep. Doo Gyul suggests they do a test: maybe something that ghosts can't eat or something they're scared of…

Later, as the other kids watch, Hye Gyul brings Bok Nyeo some sweet red bean buns. Doo Gyul mentions that they’re really delicious. So Bok Nyeo tells him he can have them all. Heh. Later, Bok Nyeo is peeling a lot of onions. The kids’ eyes are watering, but nothing is coming out of Bok Nyeo’s eyes. Se Gyul asks her if she’s not bothered and she says, “Not really.” So Hye Gyul decides to ask her straight out if she’s their mother’s ghost or reincarnation. Her brothers try to stop her, but she asks. Bok Nyeo repeats her stipulation that they not talk to her unless it’s work related.

Later it’s a standoff. A bet of some kind. If the kids win, she will have to tell them everything. Bok Nyeo wants to know what she will win. Because she will win. She’s good at everything. Han Gyul says that they will stop asking her probing questions. First up, Hye Gyul. She’s the queen of kai, bai, bo (rock, paper, scissors) at school. But every single time, Bok Nyeo wins. It's uncanny. So Hye Gyul loses. It’s Se Gyul’s turn – it’s a race to see who can assemble a puzzle more quickly. Se Gyul goes first, with Bok Nyeo watching. She beats his time by almost 2 minutes. Doo Gyul’s contest? Arm wrestling. He loses, of course, rather quickly.

The kids tells Noona that it’s up to her. So the action moves to karaoke. Her score is 98 out of 100. She sings it a monotone, but she scores 100. The kids can’t believe it. And I can’t either. How did that happen? She wasn’t even singing. But because they all lost, they have to stop asking her about her past.

Grandpa has gone to Happy Company to hire a housekeeper. I guess Auntie’s strike worked. He doesn’t look too happy about it. Director Hong asks him if he even has enough money to pay for the agency fee, since he’s old, sick and has no money, the complete trilogy. Grandpa doesn’t care about what she’s talking about; he just needs someone since Auntie went on strike. And he wants someone who’s not weird like Bok Nyeo.

Director Hong tells Grandpa that Bok Nyeo is not strange. Grandpa declares that she’s even stranger than a ghost. Director Hong gets upset. She can’t believe he would say that since Bok Nyeo means so much to her. She raised her with so much care... Grandpa can’t believe it and asks if Bok Nyeo is, possibly, his daughter? And he motions that it’s *their* daughter. What? He got busy with the housekeeper? And then you dumped her? Cad! Director Hong says yes, shocking both Grandpa and me. And then she does her cackle that she does after she’s said something true but is playing it off like it’s not. Grandpa is furious that she pulled his leg like that. But I wonder if it could be true, based on every other time she’s cackled. That would be interesting – Bok Nyeo as the kids’ aunt. Or another of Grandpa’s daughters marrying Sang Chul. Heh. That would be truly ironic.

Sang Chul is at an employment agency. The headhunter tells him that it’s not easy to tell what he was responsible for, since he worked at a large corporation, his positions are ambiguous. The headhunter also tells him that his dismissal will also bring challenges.

At home, the kids are watching Mary Poppins pull a hat stand out of her magic bag, among other things. Hye Gyul declares that it’s just like Bok Nyeo’s bag. Doo Gyul decides they should open Bok Nyeo’s bag and find out. Han Gyul is the only one with reservations about opening Bok Nyeo’s bag.

Sang Chul arrives home. Han Gyul asks how his meeting with the headhunter went. Sang Chul describes it as so-so. Hye Gyul tells them that they want to look in Bok Nyeo’s bag, since it always has what they need. Sang Chul forbids them from doing it. But just a little while later, Doo Gyul’s trying to open it, while everyone else watches. Sang Chul pretends to read the paper. Bok Nyeo busts them – since they’re in the *living room* – and she tells them not to touch her things. Dad tells them to return the bag to its place. Like he had no idea what was happening, or it wasn’t something that occurred to him not to do. The kids are appropriately embarrassed.

Han Gyul is talking to Woo Jae about the family's conundrum. Han Gyul says that even though they’re not related, she always feels like they are. Woo Jae replies that a person doesn’t have to be blood related to become family. Which is totally true. Only limited minds don’t realize this. He says that when people eat together, they are family. Han Gyul mentions that they’ve never eaten with Bok Nyeo-nim. Because she won’t do it. And Woo Jae says that they’re cruel. Han Gyul sighs.

Han Gyul and Woo Jae reach where they were going: the band room, so their group can practice. And apparently Han Gyul is their singer. Soo Hyuk isn’t there and Han Gyul asks if it’s because of her. The guys assure her that Soo Hyuk might have a temper, but he’s not petty. He just didn’t come to school that day. Woo Jae thinks about the scene he overheard, where Soo Hyuk’s slimeball of a dad told Soo Hyuk to sell his body to pay off dad’s debts.

Later Han Gyul slips out and texts Soo Hyuk, asking where he is. He answers that he’s playing hooky; Haeundae (the beach) is a killer. The song playing says that “I am bleeding.” And I wonder if Soo Hyuk really is bleeding somewhere. It makes me sick to my stomach. But I’m happy to see that Soo Hyuk has gotten a job delivering fish. Not that I’m happy he’s going to be dropping out of school, but just that he’s not going to have to prostitute himself. There’s a moment when Soo Hyuk’s on his bike where we hear a voice asking when he’s going to be paying off the rest of his dad’s debt.

Bok Nyeo comes across Soo Hyuk when he’s at the butcher’s. She sees the sign on his bike, so she knows what he’s doing. She enters the butcher shop and asks for some meat. Soo Hyuk pretends not to know her and tries to blend in with the glass display case. Mr. Butcher is very happy to see her, which pisses Mrs. Butcher off. And she still hasn’t figured out what Mr. Butcher meant by him gushing over Bok Nyeo because of her. Mrs. Butcher demands that they serve Soo Hyuk first. And before Soo Hyuk can leave, Woo Jae comes home. Awkwardness between them, even though Woo Jae is nice enough to bow to Bok Nyeo.

Woo Jae follows Soo Hyuk outside. Where is bike is with the delivery number. Bok Nyeo comes outside after them and starts to return home. Woo Jae asks him what he’s doing. Is it because of his dad? I think that's implying that Soo Hyuk knows Woo Jae overheard his conversation with his dad. Soo Hyuk’s not saying anything, just starting up his bike. Woo Jae tells Soo Hyuk that Han Gyul is worried about him. Hearing this, Bok Nyeo stops and turns around, because it involves one of *her* kids. Soo Hyuk just acts like nothing’s wrong, that this is the Haeundae (beach) and drives off. Han Gyul misses him as he drives by.

Han Gyul’s surprised to see Bok Nyeo, but she reports that she came to buy meat. Han Gyul wants to know if Woo Jae heard from Soo Hyuk, since he’s not at home, either. Woo Jae keeps up Soo Hyuk’s ruse.

Bok Nyeo is doing laundry and Han Gyul starts to help her, saying that she used to do it with her Omma. Sang Chul overhears as he’s walking by and smiles that Han Gyul has someone to talk to. He continues walking. Han Gyul starts to get advice about a bandmate that didn't come to school. Bok Nyeo asks which one she’s talking about: Choi Soo Hyuk, the boy she likes, or Shin Woo Jae, the boy who likes her? Heh. I love that she totally sees the situation. She says it’s Soo Hyuk, but her feelings aren’t like that anymore. Does that mean she's starting to like Woo Jae? And he's going to avoid Second Lead Syndrome? Then she stops and says that it felt like she was talking to her Omma. She hurries off.

I guess Sang Chul didn’t move on because as soon as Han Gyul exits, he wanders out onto the patio. And pretends very badly that he’s not there to ask her something. He asks Bok Nyeo what she talked about with Han Gyul. Was it something to do with her boyfriend? Bok Nyeo says they broke up.

Bok Nyeo pulls out a comforter that she’s washed so Sang Chul offers to help her put it up to drip dry. As they’re doing this, Mrs. Nosy sees them and is shocked, especially since Sang Chul is smiling in Bok Nyeo’s direction. Mrs. Nosy hurries in to talk to Mr. Nosy. He’s on the phone with his mistress, being all familiar, until he sees his wife coming and then he acts like it’s all business. Mrs. Nosy announces that it’s like they’re married? Is he thinking of making her a permanent addition to the family? Mr. Nosy is lost but Mrs. Nosy declares that Bok Nyeo looked very chummy with the Gyuls’ father. Mr. Nosy adjusts his glasses and says nothing.

Bok Nyeo and Sang Chul enter after finishing up hanging up the laundry. Han Gyul asks his what he talked with Bok Nyeo about and he says nothing. So she says that she needs to talk to him. It's about Bok Nyeo-nim.

Everyone’s gathered in the kitchen. Bok Nyeo is working on kimchi. Han Gyul shoves Sang Chul, to get him to do whatever they talked about. He inches forward and gets Bok Nyeo’s attention. He thanks her for taking care of the kids. And then he presents the request: the kids want to have a meal with her; would that be okay? Bok Nyeo replies, “I believe I have told you numerous times. I can never have a meal together with everyone.” The kids are very sad. Hye Gyul steps forward and tells Bok Nyeo that it’s an order for her to eat with them. Or else she (Hye Gyul) will never going to eat again. There’s a minute visible reaction from Bok Nyeo.

Bok Nyeo presents her weekly commission check to Director Hong. Before Bok Nyeo leaves, Director Hong says that the kids called her and have invited her to a meal. Director Hong gently encourages her to do it, addressing her as honey. Director Hong adds that she keeps thinking that the members of that family could possibly make her smile again. Living like the dead while she’s alive, when she’s not a phantom or ghost... Is she going to live this way forever? Bok Nyeo’s trying to look stoic, but Director Hong’s words are affecting her.

Director Hong tells Bok Nyeo that this penance is not going to get her anything. Wouldn't it be okay for her to start living like a human being again? Director Hong tells Bok Nyeo that she is going. Bok Nyeo replies that she won't go and leaves the agency. Only to be met by Stalker outside. He tells her that, “That person is coming.” Bok Nyeo doesn’t know what he means. He says that there is just one other person in this world that remembers her sin (besides him). Her EMIL. I knew it! Evil woman! Hasn’t Bok Nyeo been tormented enough? He’s told her that Bok Nyeo was acting as if she could become the family's mom. He says that EMIL shook in rage, like she wanted to break something and looked as if she'd come to turn Bok Nyeo’s world upside down.

Bok Nyeo looks nervous as she says that she has nothing to do with Eun Sang Chul's family. She asks him not to play with EMIL’s heart in that manner. It’s her request. Stalker smiles, with menace, and replies that her mother-in-law and him, they can’t stop chasing her. So, she should stop hiding and turn herself in. For what? And Bok Nyeo looks freaked out. It’s all in the eyes. Han Gyul is walking and Song Hwa is waiting for her. I hate this woman!!!! Who does she think she is? I hate her so much. Han Gyul remembers presenting the suicide note and telling Song Hwa that she killed her mother. And Song Hwa saying that to adults, there are adult decisions. And isn’t the one who would be most hurt, her father? I hate her. I will never stop muttering that. But Han Gyul stupidly decides to sit in the park with Song Hwa, who’s dressed all in black except for white shoes. It’s after Labor Day. Tacky.

Han Gyul says that she thought that Song Hwa had ended it with her father. Song Hwa replies that to be precise, Sang Chul ended it, at the very moment when she realized what a good man he was. So, is Song Hwa saying that she’s not going to end it? Song Hwa says that she realized that in order to not lose Sang Chul, she realized that she had to embrace his kids, too. Song Hwa says that if she were to become their mother, would Han Gyul accept her? And I can’t believe this woman. IHH (I hate her)! Song Hwa says that Han Gyul needs time to think about it. And since she’s not a young child, she’s not going to only think about herself, right? She should think what’s best for her dad and think carefully. What’s best for her dad is not a manipulative witch like you! You will never think of anyone but yourself. Even this is all about you, wrapped up in Sang Chul clothing. IHH!

As Song Hwa gets up to leave, thinking her work there is done, Han Gyul announces that she thinks she know why Song Hwa suddenly changed her mind. Truthfully, being abandoned, really hurts your pride, right? Han Gyul’s asked her Omma, many hundreds of times, should they get lost, for their Appa’s sake? But, she couldn’t find an answer. “So, Ajumma, why don't you ask my mother directly? Get my mother's permission and then come.” Bam! And Song Hwa is pissed that her manipulative ways didn’t work. And she knows that their Omma will never give permission, since she’s the one that drove Omma to kill herself.

Bok Nyeo is surveying the Eun household. Sentimental music plays. She’s stocking everything well. Han Gyul arrives and says it looks like she’s planning on going far away. Bok Nyeo just replies that she’s just doing what she’s supposed to do. And I think Bok Nyeo is planning on getting the heck out of Dodge.

Sang Chul’s eating lunch with Auntie. Auntie wants to know if Bok Nyeo coming to the dinner. He’s not sure. Auntie asks how his job interviews going, since she’s certain someone will hire him soon, even though the construction industry is in a slump. Why does Auntie always say and do the wrong thing? Sang Chul’s phone buzzes. He sees it’s Song Hwa, frowns, and ignores it. Auntie tells him that he should answer it, since it might be from his job interview. Yeah, that’s why he ignored the call. Because he doesn’t know who it is, even though her name popped up. Auntie. Sometimes you are so aggravating. Sang Chul just ignores her and eats his ramen. A text message pops up. Sang Chul reads it – probably to get Auntie off his back. Song Hwa announces that she don't have any regrets since she’s done her best. He should take care. What is she planning now? Trying to kill herself so Sang Chul is guilted into taking her back? Oh, let her succeed in her attempt! Sang Chul continues to frown and doesn’t reply. Auntie asks if she can make the restaurant reservation and Sang Chul agrees.

Song Hwa has arrived at an investment firm. The guy behind the desk is fiddling with a really old record player. Standing up, he asks if she has a boyfriend. She doesn’t look like the type to not have one. Maybe she’s married, but she’s not wearing a ring. She coldly asks him to leave if he’s finished with the repair. He just smiles at her. And I have a feeling that she’s here to see him, even though she doesn’t realize it yet. And why are we still following her story? How is this going to play out with the Euns? It makes me kind of nervous.

He walks over to the desk and leans on it, saying that he seems to have offended her, but she can’t really do anything, since he’s the CEO. His name is on the desk: CEO Jang Do Hyung. Song Hwa says that she was there for a job interview, not for an arranged date. He ‘apologizes’ but she’s just his style. He’s not someone who knows how to hide his feelings. He tells her that she’s passed your first interview. But her second one will be more in-depth. And I’m thinking creeper, but he’s probably heard about how she likes to sleep with her bosses, so she’ll put out.

They’re at a restaurant now. Do Hyung asks her why she continuing to work, since she’s missing out on getting married. She says that she likes working. He tells her that she’s making him look weird, since she’s being so serious. Then he call her a pretty fool. For her to live easily, she needs to empty your brain a bit. She says she’s learned too much to do that, plus all her experience would be wasted. He replies that she *is* completely his style. They both smile.

The Euns arrive at the restaurant. And I have a bad feeling that it’s the same restaurant. Auntie’s still on her way. Han Gyul calls her because it’s a really expensive restaurant. Auntie says that it’s her treat, in honor of their father’s fresh start. Hye Gyul asks if Bok Nyeo will be able to find it and Sang Chul says he’s going to check to see if she’s there.

Do Hyung asks why Song Hwa quit the great JK Construction. She replies that he must not have heard the rumors. And here comes Sang Chul around the corner. He starts when he sees her, especially when it looks like she’s on *a date.* Do Hyung says he hasn’t been in Korea long. Song Hwa starts “to be honest” when Sang Chul comes up to the table. She greets him. She introduces him to Do Hyung as her direct superior when she worked at JK Construction. Do Hyung gets up and introduces himself. They shake hands. Auntie arrives. She asks Sang Chul about their table and goes to find it when Sang Chul points her in its direction. Sang Chul bows and walks away. Do Hyung watches him go, with a strange smile on his face. Somehow I think this will have something to do with Bok Nyeo.

Bok Nyeo is in an elevator, going up. She turns and looks at herself in the mirror. Odd.

Do Hyung is sharing his plans for the company. It seems a shame to invest his money only in other people's work. But then, when Song Hwa starts to ask more, Do Hyung decides that they should stop talking about work. Sang Chul is returning to the table, with Bok Nyeo! I am shocked she came to the restaurant. Do Hyung asks if Song Hwa wants more wine and Bok Nyeo stops. She spins around to look in Song Hwa’s direction. She walks over to the table, looking at Song Hwa. Song Hwa is rude about the staring, but Bok Nyeo turns to look at Do Hyung. He reluctantly looks up at Bok Nyeo. She calls Do Hyung “Seo Ji Hoon.” He looks at her, puzzled. She asks him why he’s still alive? He doesn’t respond. She grabs him by the collar and screams at him, “Why are you alive?!” She shoves him backward and he falls out of his chair, busting a statue in the process. It gets everyone at the Eun table’s attention.

Bok Nyeo is panting, seething. Sang Chul and Song Hwa are staring at her with shock. The restaurant staff rushes over to help Do Hyung up. He angrily looks at his cut hand and asks her if she knows him. She calls him Seo Ji Hoon again and screams again, “Why are you alive?!?!” Song Hwa yells at Bok Nyeo about speaking lies and Sang Chul goes over to help Do Hyung up, explaining that Bok Nyeo must have mistaken him for someone else. He apologizes. And Do Hyung hasn’t denied that he’s Ji Hoon. Do Hyung is glaring at Bok Nyeo and she’s standing there, staring at him horrified. A tear rolls down her cheek.

Sang Chul and Bok Nyeo are exiting the police station. So I guess the jerk called the police. Does he have amnesia? Or was he intentionally lying for some spiteful reason? Sang Chul asks who Bok Nyeo thought the man was. He’s heard that she had a husband and a child. Did Do Hyung resemble your husband? Or, was that Seo Ji Hoon person involved in her husband's death? Bok Nyeo keeps walking without saying anything.

Do Hyung’s driving Song Hwa home. He remarks that Sang Chul’s wife was really violent. No matter how much she mistook him for someone else, he thought he was going to die before having a chance to be married. Song Hwa says that she’s not the wife. She’s the maid. He remarks that she must have been very close to her former boss, since she knows what the maid looks like. She answers that she had an affair with that person and his wife committed suicide when she found out. In the end, they both quit JK.

Do Hyung tells her that she *is* the pretty fool, since it could ruin her chances for the job. She replies that she felt she had to tell him the truth, because she’s sincerely interested in Gatsby Investment (his firm). He asks if they’re still involved and she tells him that in order to return to his children, Sang Chul broke up with her. Do Hyung ponders that statement and there’s a slight almost smirk on his face.

The kids are at home discussing what’s happened. They feel like it’s their fault, because they kept asking about her past. It would be easier if they knew about her past to know how to help her, but she’ll quit if they ask her about it. Hye Gyul has an idea: Yakgwa Cookies. Korean cookie made of wheat flour, honey and sesame oil. Director Hong mentioned that if Bok Nyeo eats Yakgwa cookies, she’ll reveal all her secrets. She’s really good at imitating Director Hong.

Grandpa has arrived at Happy Company. Or rather, burst in. She tells him that they’re finished for the day. He order her, Na Mi, to take a sit. He’s heard about the restaurant from Auntie, and declares that Bok Nyeo will not work for his family. He demands to know what Bok Nyeo’s identity is. Director Hong sighs. And obviously she *hasn’t* heard that Bok Nyeo’s husband is still alive.

Bok Nyeo arrives at work and Hye Gyul runs and greets her with a hug. They ask if she’s okay. Sang Chul suggests they order some food. Hye Gyul pulls Bok Nyeo over to the table and asks her to sit. The cookies are there. Bok Nyeo sits. Everyone else sits, too. Touching music plays. Doo Gyul asks about the man. Se Gyul says it’s the first time he’s seen her get angry like that. Was he a stalker? If he's a bad person, they'll help her.

Sang Chul tells them to stop with their questions. Hye Gyul gives Bok Nyeo the Yagkwa cookie. She takes it, looks at it and after eating a very tiny bite of it, she announces that she will tell them all about her past. AND THE EPISODE ENDS!!!!

Thoughts

Holy crap! I never expected her husband to come back from the dead. Yes, it happens in k-dramas, but I sure didn’t expect it to happen in this one. And does he really have amnesia, or is he faking. I actually think he’s faking, based on his reactions to Bok Nyeo and that ever so slight smirk during his conversation with Song Hwa. And, he’s starting Gatsby Investments. What’s the story with ‘The Great Gatsby’? A guy comes back, under a false identity, extremely rich, for an agenda only he knows. I don’t think the writers are referencing another classic piece of literature without a reason. And I totally believe that he is lying about not knowing about Song Hwa’s reputation or what buttons to push for her to get ‘in bed’ with him. His motive? To destroy Sang Chul and his family because Bok Nyeo’s come to care for them.

Based on the previews, Seo Ji Hoon was evil and he was powerful enough to have faked his death certificate. How evil is the EMIL? So evil! And he’s not wheelchair bound, so EMIL still has to be around. So evil! And they’re still tormenting her all these years later? Sick and twisted. Especially because she’s been punishing herself all these years, living like a dead person. That kind of evil, I don’t understand that. And I really hope that he and his evil mother get what’s coming to them for it.

So what’s with the coat and hat? Are we going to learn that secret, too? And could maybe, her son be alive somewhere, too? Because if they can do that to her, they can kidnap the kid as part of their plan, just so she’s doubly tormented.

I also suspect that 'dead' hubbie might have been abusive. This Do Hyung is giving me that vibe. The way he leaned on the desk over Song Hwa; the way he insults her, wrapped in compliment; the way he seems very nonchalant about crossing that boundary of hitting on an employee. And he says lots of pretty words in just the right places, as someone really good at playing mind games and abusing someone. Plus, when Bok Nyeo heard him and walked over to their table, she didn't immediately say something to him. She gave a long look at Song Hwa, almost like she was concerned for her safety. I'll see if I'm right, but I'm really getting that vibe.

The one good thing that might come out of their insidious plan: Song Hwa will get hers because she really deserves it. I can’t believe she tried to manipulate Han Gyul like that? I don’t usually strongly hate someone like this, but she is so shameless. Wang Ji Hye played another shameless character in ‘Personal Taste’ but I didn’t hate that woman as much as I hate Song Hwa. I think because even though both are selfish, her other character at least owned that she was selfish, rather than pretending that she’s not. She owned being out to please herself and herself alone. Song Hwa constantly lies about what she’s doing, even though she’s doing the exact same thing.

I’m excited that Bok Nyeo’s secret is coming out now. I was expecting it to stay hidden for a few more episodes. I wonder what the story really will be. And I hope in the end, Bok Nyeo will be happy and will go and rub it in that EMIL’s face!

So I’ve been reacting to the developments in Bok Nyeo’s story, but how about Sang Chul being a man and dumping Song Hwa?! I love the progression of his character. And he’s actually acting somewhat happy. They all are. Because of Bok Nyeo. And I think Omma would approve. It’s nice to think of Sang Chul *really* happy. Yes, he was an idiot. And completely selfish. But he’s done many things since then to pay the piper.

And what’s with Han Gyul’s strange dream? I still think that something’s going to happen to Auntie because she’s imitating Bok Nyeo.

How about the possibility that Bok Nyeo is the kids' aunt? She does look a lot like the mom and Director Hong cackled like she always does after she's said the truth, but is playing like it's not. It would explain why the kids feel such a connection with her. And it would shut Mrs. Nosy up, since it makes Bok Nyeo family. I still, do, want Bok Nyeo and Sang Chul to end up together, since I think it would make both of them really happy and make the kids happy, too.

And another significant event: Bok Nyeo *ate* with them. Yes, it was a small nibble, but still. She *ate* with them, meaning that she’s accepted being part of their family. This drama does like the foreshadow stuff.

When I started watching this drama, I didn’t expect to really be this sucked in, but I am. And I love that Lee Sung Jae is playing a character that I can *like.* The fact that Eun Sang Chul is like the polar opposite of Kwan Woong in ‘Gu Family Book’ speaks to what a great actor he is. If I didn’t know, I wouldn’t think it was the same guy. Watching Episode 10 first thing tomorrow! Even though I cringe at what *that* cliff hanger will be!
