Suspicious Housekeeper Episode 6 Recap

The episode starts with the graffiti proclaiming, “I want to protect my family!” and Sang Chul getting down on his knees to beg Mrs. Nosy not to press charges for it. Doo Gyul (and the rest of his family) can’t believe he’s humiliating himself in that way.

Bok Nyeo exits the room and comes back with the broom. She looks almost angry, if she wore an expression. She walks over to Mrs. Nosy and gestures with the broom and Mrs. Nosy shrinks backward. She wants to know what Bok Nyeo’s going to do this time. Bok Nyeo replies, “Dirty…” and then adds that it’s dirty where she’s standing, because Mrs. Nosy stepped in dog poop. Bok Nyeo comes after her with the mop, cleaning up the poop (which is very fitting that she’s chasing Mrs. Nosy). Mrs. Nosy runs screaming from the house because she stepped in poop.

The Eun family (which includes Bok Nyeo) goes outside and looks at the graffiti. They wonder how they’re going to get it off the wall and Sang Chul thinks to ask Bok Nyeo if she has something to take care of it. Of course she does in her magic bag. Everyone gets to work at cleaning the graffiti, with Doo Gyul the least enthusiastic. Eventually he says that their mother said he was the most reliable. He wonder’s why she would say that since he’s always causing trouble. He starts to cry and Hye Gyul says she’ll protect him. Se Gyul and Sang Chul’s face say the same thing. Go, Dad. Doo Gyul’s stomach growls. so Sang Chul encourages them all to hurry and finish so they can eat. Aw, the Eun family working together. And Sang Chul feels like a good dad, which is good.

It’s a spread at the dinner table, but Hye Gyul is worried about wetting the bed, because she ate so late. Sang Chul tells her not to worry; Doo Gyul wet the bed until he was 10 (and Doo Gyul chokes on his food). He tells Sang Chul, “Stop talking nonsense, Dad.” And then feels weird. But Hye Gyul lessens the moment by imitating Bok Nyeo.

Sang Chul asks about Se Gyul about giving up international school and promises to help him in the future, but Se Gyul isn’t worried. He’s fine going to school where he is. And then Se Gyul and Bok Nyeo share a look and it looks like Bok Nyeo’s fighting back a smile.

Finally Han Gyul gets home and demands to know what’s going on and who let their Dad in. Like it’s not his house. And insecure Sang Chul is back. Sang Chul starts to sputter when Doo Gyul sticks up for him, saying *he’s* the reason Dad’s there. But she just tells him to be quiet and then starts yelling at their dad. Flash back to Han Gyul finding the rings and being pissed. And Sang Chul runs away again, even though Han Gyul’s the only one who wants him to go.

But before he goes, he pulls the Dad rock out of his pocket and tells Hye Gyul that Bok Nyeo found it. Hye Gyul’s excited and holds out her box. But Sang Chul doesn’t want to let the rock go and asks her if he can keep it for a while. See, your dad does love you! None of the kids miss the significance, but Sang Chul leaves anyway. The only one who is happy to see him go is Han Gyul.

Bok Nyeo follows Sang Chul outside. He sadly looks at the rock and asks Bok Nyeo if it can be put back in the box again. He asks her what she would do, since he can’t come home and he can’t not come home. He says that someone told him that, unlike a mother’s love, a father’s love is learned, and he worries that it’s too late for him to learn it now. She replies that she doesn’t deserve to talk about someone else’s life. Which is an odd thing to say. Sang Chul looks at the rock and remarks that it’s strange how heavy such a small thing is. He tells her that she’s the only one he can trust and depend on.

Inside, the kids have told Han Gyul what Sang Chul did, but she refuses to relent with the ban on Appa and threatens to kills whoever contacts him without her permission. Doo Gyul protests that without Appa, he would have been taken by the police. Han Gyul snaps that he should have let them take him. Because that would positively impact his future. You need to give up your pride, girl. I think it’s coming this episode, though. Han Gyul stomps off and all the other kids think she’s being unreasonable.

In the boys’ room, Bok Nyeo brings Doo Gyul his basketball uniform, all cleaned. He doesn’t understand why she took it out of the trash. He thought he was good at basketball, but then he got kicked off the team, which makes him pretty pathetic. He starts to be respectful, but then remembers he’s supposed to call her ajumma. He asks whether Noona and Se Gyul are right about him not being good any anything. He agrees and he feels hurt. But then she adds that no one is good at everything or not good at anything, so there must be something he’s good at.

Director Hong is stroking the pin and thinking of Grandpa. Bok Nyeo interrupts her thoughts with this week’s commission. Director Hong looks at it and tells Bok Nyeo it’s short. When Bok Nyeo looks at her, almost with a glare, she loudly laughs. Then she asks about Doo Gyul, whether he bothered her and then laments about knowing the grandfather. Then she asks Bok Nyeo is Grandpa’s wife is still alive, but laughs loudly with her dismissive laugh, since Bok Nyeo never talks about any of her families. Director Hong adds that if Bok Nyeo’s son were still alive, he’d be about Doo Gyul’s age. This immediately makes Bok Nyeo withdraw into herself, with Director Hong apologizing profusely for mentioning it. Bok Nyeo goes and I think her eyes are almost misty.

Bok Nyeo’s at the park, where she normally goes and sits with the two meals that she never eats. This time, there’s a happy family that includes a boy who would be her son’s age, happily playing with his younger sister. Bok Nyeo begins to cry and turns in her tray. The stalker is there, taking pictures of her.

There’s a shot of the stalker looking at his wall full of Bok Nyeo pictures, all with the Eun family.

The boys’ room. On the wall now is a sign: “There isn’t a person who is good at everything and there isn’t a person that is good at nothing.” I don’t know why, but that sign makes me really happy.

At the table, Doo Gyul makes an announcement: he’s going to invest in studying. When Se Gyul asks him if he’s really going to study, Doo Gyul smiles and looks at Bok Nyeo, because she believe in him. She doesn’t react, except a little. Later, Se Gyul is quizzing Doo Gyul and the boy is having a hard time. Se Gyul wants to throw in the towel and when Doo Gyul protests, Se Gyul tells him to ask Bok Nyeo for help.

Bok Nyeo is working on hanging a picture outside Han Gyul’s room. The picture is of Sang Chul teaching Han Gyul to ride a bike. Han Gyul comes back and asks Bok Nyeo if she could turn back time, so that she could have some nice memories instead of just painful ones. She’s still upset about the rings and is going to pay him back! Han Gyul wants to know what will drive the biggest nail in her father’s heart. Bok Nyeo tells her there is a way: if she ruins herself. Bok Nyeo finishes with the nail and hangs the picture.

Later, Han Gyul tells Bok Nyeo that she’s going over to her boyfriend’s to sleep with him. She’d been putting it off, but this is how she’s going to ruin herself. She says she won’t be home that night. Bok Nyeo says bye and goes back to washing dishes.

Sang Chul’s at his hotel, rethinking his last conversation with Han Gyul. He calls home and asks Bok Nyeo to speak to Han Gyul, since the girl isn’t answering his calls. Bok Nyeo reports Han Gyul’s plan to sleep with her boyfriend.

Soo Hyuk and Woo Jae are hanging it. It looks like they’re trying to figure out a song for Rock Band. It’s Welcome to the Jungle, by Guns ‘N’ Roses. Long live the 80s! Soo Hyuk gets a text, with Han Gyul asking to come over (to do it). Soo Hyuk’s excited his hard work has paid off and tells Woo Jae to get lost, since a girl is coming over. He won’t say who, even when Woo Jae asks. He runs to take a shower and Woo Jae looks at his phone. He’s not happy.

Han Gyul texts Sang Chul to get him to stop trying to call her. He texts her back, asking her not to ruin herself because of him, because it’s a foolish thing to do. She just turns off her phone. She runs into Woo Jae as he’s leaving Soo Hyuk’s apartment. He starts laying into her, because she’s not like this, but she says that she needs to ruin herself. He grabs her arm to stop her from going and tells her to get a grip, but she won’t be lectured and just gets on the elevator. He’s obviously hurt (because he likes her and she’s about to do it with another boy who doesn’t even really like her).

Han Gyul and Soo Hyuk sit on the couch, sharing headphones. He plays ‘Que Sera, Sera’ which is a totally bizarre song for a boy to have on his mp3 player. The lyrics obviously affect Han Gyul and she starts to cry. Soo Hyuk says that the future isn’t certain. Ah, that’s why he has it on his player, to help him get laid. Slimeball! Outside, Woo Jae is tempted to throw a rock at Soo Hyuk’s window, but he thinks twice.

Han Gyul takes off the headphones and Soo Hyuk starts to move in for a kiss. Her phone is ringing. Home. Han Gyul answers and Bok Nyeo reports that Hye Gyul wants Han Gyul to braid her hair. Bok Nyeo reports that she understands. They hang up. Soo Hyuk’s about to kiss Han Gyul again and it’s the phone. Se Gyul is asking for permission to borrow her badminton racket. Soo Hyuk takes the phone from Han Gyul and turns it off. They exchange a look.

The next day at school, a rumor is spreading all over the place that Choi Soo Hyuk slept with Eun Han Gyul. Her deskmate and friend gets the texts spreading the rumor. She asks Han Gyul if it’s true. Han Gyul grabs the girl’s phone and sees the texts. She’s obviously upset. Well, you wanted to ruin yourself. Han Gyul’s walking down the hall and everyone is talking about her. She comes across Woo Jae. He asks her if she’s happy, now that she’s ruined herself. She asks him if he’s even a man. Uh-oh, she’s blaming him for the texts. She asks him how he could do it. He doesn’t know what she means? Is she blaming him for the texts?! She says that he’s the only one who saw her.

Woo Jae asks Han Gyul if she really slept with the bastard. She picks up the pail or water he was carrying and throws it at him, screaming that she did, that it’s not a big deal and she’s happy that everyone knows. Soo Hyuk comes outside and sees the interchange. Woo Jae can’t believe she actually slept with him so he stands there, stunned, and just drips. Han Gyul’s friend comes up and drags her away, before she makes an even bigger spectacle of herself. And I feel really bad for Woo Jae. She’s just ripped out his heart. Bigtime. It’s lying right there, on the ground, slowly dying. Soo Hyuk laughs at the ridiculousness of the scene.

Later, a bunch of girls approach Han Gyul. One of them asks her who she is to be flirting with their Oppa. Han Gyul replies that they are dating. One of the huskier girls steps into Han Gyul’s space and tells her she better live her Oppa alone. When Han Gyul doesn’t look like she’s backing down, another girl threatens to scratch up Han Gyul’s face. Han Gyul asks them if their Oppa even knows their name. The second girl starts pulling Han Gyul’s hair and when Han Gyul knocks herself free the girl smacks her own friend in the face. Girl2 is about to really hit Han Gyul when Woo Jae catches the girl’s arm and insults her. The girl tells him to get lost, but he hefts the bat he’s carrying and tells them if they don’t get out of there, he’ll make sure that they all fly over the fence. They run off.

Woo Jae is rather pleased with himself as he turns to Han Gyul and tells her that he grew up in a violent household so he’s good at mimicking violence. She smiles and he says it’s good to see her laugh. She asks him if he spread the rumor and he answers by asking her if she thought he was that kind of person. Now, this is a good man, Han Gyul. You just broke his heart but he’s still coming to your rescue.

Mrs. Nosy is telling the neighborhood wives that Sang Chul is hooking up with Bok Nyeo. Mrs. Nosy says that Bok Nyeo does whatever she’s asks, so naturally, they all think of dirty stuff. Then Mrs. Nosy starts talking about the butcher, Mr. Shin, and how he’s giving free meat to Bok Nyeo. The biddies are just eating this gossip up. And then they all jump when Mrs. Shin is standing there glaring at them. One of the biddies says, “Woo Jae’s mom!” and I realize that she’s *Woo Jae’s* mother.

Mrs. Nosy sputters that she was just talking to the other ladies about how Bok Nyeo should get out of town. Mrs. Shin asks if the rumor is true. Mrs. Nosy’s excited to hear what rumor she’s talking about. Mrs. Shin loudly says, “Poop!” Mrs. Nosy doesn’t want her to say anything else but Mrs. Shin continues, saying that Mrs. Nosy smeared poop all over their house. The other wives are horrified that Mrs. Nosy would pay back the graffiti by smearing poop. Mrs. Nosy can only sputter and demand to know if Bok Nyeo’s the one who told her that.

Butcher Shop. Mr. Shin is pacing, looking at the time. Woo Jae enters. Woo Jae asks if he’s waiting for someone, since there’s a rumor going around that he’s cheating with Bok Nyeo. What a thing to ask your dad. Mr. Shin mutters that Bok Nyeo’s like the moon in the sky, something he can only look at, but if he could have an affair with her, it would be his honor. He calls himself a teaser horse and when Woo Jae looks it up, he feels bad for his dad.

Mr. Shin notices Woo Jae’s good mood and asks if he got a girlfriend. Woo Jae replies that their household matters (referring to the violence, heh) helped him out today. Mr. Shin asks if the girl likes meat and Mrs. Shin is there for that and tells her husband that she was just at a meeting to banish Bok Nyeo from the neighborhood. And, of course, she voted for it!

Grandpa’s just found out that Sang Chul’s not having an affair but he’s instead been staying in a hotel and he’s been demoted to work at the construction site. Grandpa’s informant doesn’t know exactly what, since the CEO has ordered everyone to keep it secret. Grandpa suspects embezzling.

Back at school, Han Gyul’s talking with her friend. They’re trying to figure out who did it, since it wasn’t Woo Jae. Who else could have done it, since Woo Jae was the only one who saw her at Soo Hyuk’s house. They wonder if it could be one of his fangirls. But overlook the fact that it was probably Soo Hyuk that did it, since I suspect Han Gyul *didn’t* sleep with him, again. Han Gyul gets a call.

Han Gyul’s been summoned to Grandpa’s house. Auntie can’t believe that Han Gyul’s planning on telling Grandpa everything. Auntie tries to distract Grandpa from his mission, but he tells her to shut up and go to her room. Auntie leaves and Grandpa and Han Gyul sit at the table. Grandpa lays into her about the length of her skirt, is she trying to stand out now that she’s motherless? Really? She’s in her *school uniform.* Then he yells at her about not telling him about Sang Chul moving out. She calls herself the eldest daughter? She should have come to him immediately. Even though you haven’t wanted anything to do with your grandchildren up to this point and made her feel like you absolutely hate her.

Grandpa asks her what Sang Chul did to be demoted. Han Gyul surprisingly doesn’t answer any of his questions. He tells her it’s obvious that they’re related, since she’s acting like such a slut. Han Gyul doesn’t hold back in her response: What did Grandpa ever do for them? It’s not like he ever cared before. Grandpa is speechless. Auntie comes out and tries to smooth things over but Han Gyul tells him that her mother said he was like this, that Grandpa likes to give those around him a hard time. Grandma’s death was even his fault. Grandpa slaps her and tells her that if her mother hadn’t have gotten pregnant with her, then they wouldn’t have gotten married and her mother wouldn’t have died. Han Gyul gets up and leaves. Auntie tries to tell her that Grandpa didn’t mean it, but Han Gyul says it’s all true. She sadly wanders down the street.

Over at Soo Hyuk’s, his friend is talking about how he can’t understand why Woo Jae would take credit for a rumor that he (the friend) started after Soo Hyuk shared the news and told him to spread the rumor. The friend wants to know if Soo Hyuk’s going to keep dating Han Gyul and he replies that he’ll see what happens. Like he’s waiting to see if the rumor finally makes her give it up. Slimeball. He gets a text from Han Gyul asking to see him. He tells her he’s busy. She replies that she knows he’s mad – since she didn’t sleep with him – but she really needs him right now. The friend tells Soo Hyuk that he’s the man, since he’s able to manipulate girls like this.

Soo Hyuk meets up Han Gyul. She’s happy. He’s putting up with her. But he’s sympathetic, as usual, when she tells him about her Grandpa. He remarks that things would have been less unfair if they’d actually done it. She smiles at him and we get the flashback to him shutting off her phone. He tells her she doesn’t need to answer all of Bok Nyeo’s calls since, Bok Nyeo isn’t her mother. Han Gyul replies that that’s exactly why she has to answer. She asks him if he really likes her. He calls the question ridiculous but when she wants an answer, he can’t say it. She calls him on only wanting to sleep with her.

Back in the present Han Gyul tells Soo Hyuk that the moment he hesitated, he reminded her of her father, so immediately he blurts out that he really likes her. He ends up telling her why his house is always empty: his parents are divorced and since his mother is working all the time, he’s always alone. When he listens to music, eats, goes to the doctor. He asks her about running away. She likes the idea of running away for a day. He knows someone who has a place they can stay and she’s up for running away for good. As long as she’s with someone she loves, she’s happy. And she asks him to agree to not change until they die. He agrees but his eyes say he’s freaking out. Woo Jae wouldn’t be freaking out.

Dong Shik is visiting his friend and former boss, seeing how Sang Chul is doing. Dong Shik’s there to tell him that the healing stone project was cancelled, probably because he didn’t want Sang Chul to get the credit for the idea when it’s a hit.

Back at the office, Song Hwa and Manager Choi are working. He asks her if it was like this when she was working with Sang Chul. When she asks what he means, he says he’s just making conversation, since it’s just the two of them.

Dong Shik and Sang Chul are now at one of the outside cafés. Dong Shik calls Manager Choi, Manager Snake. Heh. He says that Choi is chasing Song Hwa, even if he’s acting all cool about it. As they’re talking, Song Hwa and Manager Choi enter the café. Awkward staring. Dong Shik says they came there because Sang Chul wanted the eel (the food Song Hwa just said she wanted). Even more awkward: now they’re all sitting together. Really?

Sang Chul wants to know why the healing stone project was changed and it was Song Hwa’s idea. She says that the cost and the shame made them change it. Witch. Manager Choi suggests Dong Shik and he leave. Both Song Hwa and Sang Chul want them to stay, but Manager Choi says they’re going so they can resolve their left-over business. And then he reminds Sang Chul that he's not a manger anymore, just to rub salt in the wound. Dong Shik and Manager Choi leave.

Sang Chul mutters that he should have decked Manager Choi but then asks Song Hwa whether she’s doing okay. Because he’s an idiot. She is not worth it. She keeps up the ruse of them being together, saying that the dagger-stares are bearable because Manager Choi is beside her. Sang Chul says that it’s a relief that at least he (Manager Choi) can protect her. That makes Manager Choi a better man than he is, since he can’t even protect his own daughter.

Han Gyul is packing her bags. Bok Nyeo appears with bed sheets. Han Gyul tells her not to bother, since she’s leaving the house. She’s tired of hacing to take care of her father and siblings. Like everyone else, her guilt causes her to ramble. Bok Nyeo bids her farewell and Han Gyul can’t believe that Bok Nyeo’s not keeping her from going. Bok Nyeo replies that she doesn’t have the right to do that. Han Gyul walks away.

At the station, Han Gyul is waiting. Soo Hyuk is standing her up. A guy walks up and asks her about the running away. I think it’s Bok Nyeo’s stalker. He says he’s been watching her a while and the guy isn’t coming. She tells him to get lost or she’ll call the cops. So he leaves, but she knows he’s right. Who is this guy? Because he’s actually pretty pleasant and nice here, not sinister at all.

Later, Han Gyul’s waiting outside Soo Hyuk’s apartment for him. It’s a bit cold. He appears, with his arm around another girl. The girl quickly leaves the awkwardness. Soo Hyuk asks her if she was really going to run away. She asks him why he didn’t come. He actually looks uncomfortable as she tells him that she could bear all the rumors and stuff because she had him. He sighs and tells her that it’s because she’s so annoying. He says that he’s the one that spread the rumor. She can’t believe it. He tells her she’s the one who doesn’t really like him, because she uses him as her sewer, to dump on and whine to all the time. And she’s a tease. When she asks why he told her they’d run away, he said he thought it would get him laid. He calls her corny and leaves her there.

Han Gyul checks into a bathhouse, but has to leave by 10 pm. She hides from the lady who makes all the students leave, but gets busted anyway. Because she doesn’t want to go home, she’s looking at a cheap hotel. A skeevy old guy comes up and thinks she’s a prostitute. She’s looking at him like he has two heads as he offers her money. And Oppa’s fangirls are there to catch the whole thing with their camera phones.

Sang Chul has arrived at home by taxi. He wants to know what Bok Nyeo did when Han Gyul said she was running away. Bok Nyeo replies that it was nothing special. He starts to yell at her for doing nothing. She knew Han Gyul wanted to ruin herself. Isn’t she a woman, too? Doesn’t she have any motherly feelings? Bok Nyeo replies that she threw them away somewhere. And I am really pained for her by that answer. What happened to her? He asks where the other children are; they’re out looking for Han Gyul.

Sang Chul gets a call. It’s Han Gyul’s teacher, reporting the rumor about Han Gyul prostituting herself all over their message boards. Teacher can’t reach her by phone. He asks them to take a seat, mistaking Bok Nyeo as the stepmother. Sang Chul calls Bok Nyeo their housekeeper and Bok Nyeo looks at him. Why? That’s interesting. Sang Chul says that it’s got to be a misunderstanding. The teacher says he hopes so, but there’s the picture. Bok Nyeo chimes in that if it’s true, she’ll get taken away and put in a home. And it will go on her permanent record. Teacher says that they need to find her quickly before things get worse.

Rumor Mill. Han Gyul is at the convenience store, where she just bought minutes on her phone. It blows up with the rumor (including the picture). She sees her siblings walk by, but she doesn’t get their attention. The kids are really worried about her.

Han Gyul is at a bridge, looking at the river where her mother killed herself. She looks at mom’s last text. Hye Gyul walks to the railing and asks, “Mom, is this how you felt?” Dramatic music as she climbs up and stands precariously on the railing. But Auntie is there to pull her back. Auntie says that she’s been watching her for a while.

Auntie and Han Gyul return home. Bok Nyeo is still there, Han Gyul sadly goes up to her room. Auntie asks Bok Nyeo to take care of Han Gyul in her place. Bok Nyeo doesn’t understand what she’s asking. Auntie says that she’d like to stay with her, but whenever she’s around, something always bad happened with the kids. She tells Bok Nyeo that Han Gyul tried to commit suicide in the river where her mother killed herself. This visibly affects Bok Nyeo. The phone rings and it’s Sang Chul. He asks if Han Gyul is home. When he hears yes, he asks Bok Nyeo for a favor.

Han Gyul is in her room. She looks through her album of memories. First as mom’s suicide note. Then at pictures of her and Appa, happy together. Bok Nyeo enters with her laundry. Han Gyul remarks that she feels like she was betrayed by the people she loves (as she looks at a picture of her and Soo Hyuk), just like mom. She says she hates everyone and can’t trust them, but most of all, she hates herself, for ruining herself. She wishes she’d never been born. Then her parents wouldn’t have married and her mom wouldn’t have killed herself.

Han Gyul stands and asks Bok Nyeo to kill her. She can’t find a reason to live, so please, kill her. And the episode ends.

Thoughts

This episode was a Han Gyul-centric episode. Thankfully, she still has her maidenhood intact. I didn’t think she’d actually do it, and boo to Soo Hyuk for being a coward and for just trying to get some booty. I actually do think he likes her, but not enough to be vulnerable and not be a player. Which is good news for my man, Woo Jae. This kid is awesome. He’s standing by his girl, even if everyone else thinks she’s lost her virtue. He’s knows who she is and he’s proven to her who he is. I wonder how many more episodes before the two of them kiss. Squee!

But with all the events, it led father and daughter to get closer to reconciling. The rest of the kids are ready to welcome back dad. She’s the last hold out. And I think once she relents, Sang Chul will finally step into the role that he’s been wanting to play all along, that of Dad. It’s very obvious that he has a confidence problem, and even though he says he doesn’t know what he’s doing, he does, when his confidence doesn’t trip him up. I just can’t wait until he stands up to Grandpa. That will be a great thing to watch.

And what about Grandpa! What a bunch of things to say to your granddaughter. I hope Han Gyul’s words really stick in his craw, because he wasn’t there for them, any of them including his daughter. And I think that’s particularly why he’s being so mean, because he knows that and feels guilty.

Still hate Song Hwa. They better not try to rehab her. Let her get seduced by Manager Choi and it get exposed, so that Sang Chul can get his old job back as someone seduced and betrayed. I won’t feel bad at all if that happened to the woman. She deserves it, no matter how ‘bad’ they make her feel.

I actually want Bok Nyeo to end up as the stepmom. I think that would be awesome. Because she needs this family as much as they need her. She already loves these kids, even if she won’t show it or admit it to herself, especially Doo Gyul, who I suspect really reminds her of her son. What did happen? I want to know? And who is the stalker dude? Is he a stalker? Or what?

One thing that I think the show is handling well is the feelings of guilt and anger by the survivors, the family Sun Young left behind. They’ve turned it on themselves and each other, but haven’t gotten to where they’re admitting that they’re angry at the one who caused all the pain in the first place (Sun Young, aka Omma). And Han Gyul contemplating suicide is very realistic, too. Family members of suicides are more likely to choose that option once they’ve lost someone that way. I have several friends who can attest to the impact that suicide can have on a family.

It’s interesting – to me, at least – how watching this show doesn’t make me anywhere uncomfortable. Watching the movie Remember Me made me extremely uncomfortable. Both families were hurting over the suicide of a loved one, but this family is dealing and healing, where that family was one big, open, festering wound. It hurt to watch them interact. But there’s a sense of hope in me as I watch this family interact, because Bok Nyeo is there and is helping them to deal. The mom is gone, but because Bok Nyeo’s there, her family hasn’t been abandoned, and even though she says she stays out of things, Bok Nyeo still gives her input.

I don’t know how Han Gyul’s going to get out of this horrible rumor and keep her reputation at all. Let alone how she’s not going to end up expelled and with this whole thing ON HER PERMANENT RECORD. In Korea, they actually *have* a permanent record and it means something! Still so many problems to solve.
