General Behavior of People in a K-Drama

  1. When someone requests a meeting to talk about something serious, you will oblige, meeting at a food establishment, a park or by a body of water. This rule is true even if the person asking hates you or is out to get you.

  2. Even after you know that someone is out to steal/replace your beloved, s/he can be trusted to tell you the truth about things. This applies even if s/he has lied in the past and/or if what is said completely contradicts your beloved's actions and/or character. If you are a relative of the hero/ine, this will also apply to your judgment.
  3. You will always get stuck in an elevator with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Even if there are six different elevators, inevitably you will be stuck in the same one.

  4. At some point there will be a stare off between the passenger of an elevator and someone who’s missed that elevator.
  5. It is okay to shove someone into a car. They will never bang their head.
  6. If someone is walking away, stop and grab their wrist. This will paralyze them momentarily so that you can still talk to them.

  7. If you really, purely love someone, then you will be okay if s/he ends up with someone else as long as s/he is happy. You will not resent the hero or the heroine for your love not working out.
  8. If you borrow or are given someone else’s clothes or shoes, they will fit even if they are much bigger or smaller than you.
  9. A promise is more serious when the pinky swear is used.

  10. It is normal for men to wear foundation, eyeliner and/or lipliner.
  11. There will be a scene where someone is brushing his/her teeth or going to the bathroom.
  12. Everyone you know will have the exact same brand, if not the exact same cell phone that you have.

  13. Your cell phone should have some sort of dangly attachment hanging from them. (BOF was an exception to this rule.)
  14. Voice mail cannot be personalized.
  15. If you don't want to be reached by telephone, you have to take out the battery to do it, rather than turn off the ringer.

  16. If you call someone and get their voice mail, do not leave a message. Hang up and sigh in frustration instead.
  17. To encourage someone, pump a fist and say ‘fighting!’ Typically, though, it will sound like it starts with with an p or wh.
  18. While singing karaoke, you must be overly dramatic or goofy. Men should wear their ties on their heads. And you should use some sort of maracas or tamborine.

  19. Characters will mutter revelatory things and no one else will hear them, even if they are within earshot. Except when characters have confidential or private conversations, then they will occur in places where it is easy to be overheard.
  20. If you want to remain anonymous, wear a cap, (sun)glasses or a mask.

  21. It is possible to have an apartment and support yourself on a temporary worker’s salary.
  22. If you have a roommate, s/he is awesome.

  • When you like someone, it is perfectly acceptable to slowly follow him/her in your car as s/he walks down the street. If you are slowly following someone, most of the time s/he will not notice you.
  • When someone requests that you get into a car for an unknown reason, whether you know them or not you will do it, not worrying that they are going to kidnap or kill you.
  • If you sit under a cherry tree, the cherry blossoms will start to fall, even if it’s not the season for falling cherry blossoms.
