And he must have let him off, because… Dae Goo’s now sitting at his desk in his room, staring at the phone that almost gave him away. He sighs, relieved.
[Episode 3: There are no rookie detectives.]
Conference Room. The four are standing outside waiting. Soo Sun and Gook are actually trying to listen, but Dae Goo looks angry, like always. They (with the exception of Dae Goo) are trying to convince themselves that they didn’t just get themselves fired.
Inside, Cha is beginning his meeting of the detective's unit. He declares what’s happened a huge mess. He mentions how it could have led the station to be filleted by the media again. He declares that spitefully, he wants to discharge them to regional stations. But it would be like pouring cold water on the overhaul effort by the Chief before it starts. Chief frowns at that remark. Cha says that he wants to hear what Pan Suk thinks should be done. Chief agrees that they should hear Pan Suk’s take on things. She says that she’ll respect his decision. No pressure, particularly in light of their conversation the other day.
Pan Suk declares that you'll never be able to fit a square peg into a round hole and the ones who seem hopeless from the get-go should be cutoff immediately. Chief’s smile waivers just a little. Outside, the four are reacting as Pan Suk declares that they don't even know basics like proper victim escort procedures and that they think of the hard life of a detective as playing detective in a survival game. Pan Suk smacks the table and stands, asking “Why the hell do we have to have meetings and headaches over those stupid newbies?”
Outside, the four react to Pan Suk’s words. Pan Suk declares that in only a week they've messed up twice already. Those morons haven't had an actual thought since the day they were born. How did they pass the police exam? Putting aside the progress of the police force, in order to stop the waste of precious citizens' tax money, Pan Suk declares that they need to fire those stupid guppies immediately. Not expecting that one. He sits and Chief’s face is priceless: she wasn’t expecting his words either.
Pan Suk declares that he was against hiring rookies in the detective unit from the start and he hasn’t wavered from that opinion. Chief cringes over that one. They should definitely be transferred to regional stations. He has no problem with them getting worse punishment. The four react, with Gook looking like he’s about to cry and Dae Goo stalking away. Chief says Pan Suk’s name and Pan Suk adds a ‘However...’ Dae Goo stops.
Pan Suk declares, asks, for three months to train them until their umbilical cords fall off. He says that once they learn to walk he'll make his decision. As long as they don't quit, he'll train them. The other detectives cringe and the Chief is smiling. Eung Do scratches his head and can’t hide his big grin. Outside, the three rejoice with high fives, but Dae Goo declines and walks off.
Later, they’re someplace outside and the three can’t restrain their smiles. Pan Suk says that he can tell from their expressions that they were eavesdropping outside the conference room. Soo Sun smiles, bows and thanks him, asking if their his kids now. She is a dork. Pan Suk declares that in the next 3 months he has one thing to teach them: that they will never be detectives. Whoa! Wasn’t expecting that. Pan Suk declares that the reason this legendary Detective Seo – it kills me when he refers to himself in the third person – is giving them, presumptuous moronic green newbies, a chance is to prove that fact. They can never be detectives so they shouldn’t waste his time. He adds that if they can't keep up with him they can quit at any time. He welcomes it. Then he adds that because they’re a *team*, if one of them quits, all of them are out.
Pan Suk asks why they aren’t responding to what he’s said. Dae Goo, without looking at him or anyone, declares that what Pan Suk has just said is wrong. The other three look at him like they can’t believe he just said that. In any government rule book, there is no mass punishment. Pan Suk answers that if it’s wrong, Dae Goo should get out. Dae Goo glares over at him. Pan Suk walks over and yells that Dae Goo better fix that look of his first! Dae Goo drops his gaze.
They drive to a robbery scene. Pan Suk has them leave their cell phones. Then he asks them who wants to solve it first. The three practically shove Dae Goo out of the car and then the four are off and running. Dae Goo stops and thinks of the map on the wall in the precinct. He’s looking for Nonhyeon-dong 1 1753. He figures out that he’s about a block over and starts to run in the building’s direction.
Soo Sun enters a business and asks the old guy at the desk where Nonhyeon-dong 1 1753 is. He thinks she’s there looking for a place to rent and won’t tell her where it is.
Tae Il’s diligently working when a girl in a fancy car stops and asks what he’s looking for. He smiles.
Gook is faring the worst and runs after a pizza delivery guy, trying to get some help.
Pan Suk’s outside the building, waiting, looking irritated. Dae Goo arrives, with Soo Sun right behind him. The other two arrive with their rides. Pan Suk frowns and asks them who told them to come separately. Are their ears plugged? Strength is in teamwork. Pan Suk and Eung Do get back in the van and start to drive off. Eung Do calls out the window for them to follow them. And for some reason Soo Sun takes off her shoes to chase the van.
Later, Pan Suk declares that there are two ways to catch a raccoon. Go into the raccoon's den or play dead and wait until the raccoon comes out. The four load into the van. Pan Suk tells them that if any of them come out before time's up, they’ll have to go on their next mission without a break. Pan Suk tells Eung Do to shut the door. Eung Do leans in and tells them to just endure it so it'll be over in one shot.
Inside the van, Gook moans that he should have never come to the detective's unit just because there were no openings in traffic division; he should have joined the regional station. Tae Il tries to stay positive. He proposes they pretend they're on a long flight to London or Paris. And he’s probably the only one of them who’s ever done that before. Soo Sun reaches over to take a drink. Dae Goo wrenches it out of her hand and, after calling her bird brain, reminds her that they’re stuck in there for the next 12 hours.
Hour Four. Gook is the one who really needs to go to the bathroom. Soo Sun tells him to think about something else. She asks why he became a police officer. He says that he wanted to marry well because a government job is the best. Tae Il nods, agreeing. Soo Sun says she did it because she wanted to uphold the law, protect justice and serve the citizens. Gook grumbles that this only makes him want to pee more. Tae Il shifts, uncomfortable, and declares that he never flies less than business class. Gook and Soo Sun reply that they’ve never been overseas.
Hour Seven. Soo Sun’s doing Zen exercises. Tae Il’s rocking back and forth. Dae Goo crosses his legs and there’s a smell. A really bad smell. The three start holding their noses because it smells like someone took a dump.
Hour Eleven. Soo Sun looks green. Dae Goo is sweating and massaging his legs. Gook also looks green and declares that his insides have exploded. Is he peeing right now? He laughs, delirious. Tae Il declares that the pressure in his bladder has gone past his eyes and is now up to my brain. Dae Goo mutters that this is a violation of human rights and that he’s going to file a complaint at the civic office. Soo Sun tells them to endure it a little longer. They only have an hour left. Just one hour.
Gook cracks and declares that he can't take it. He tries to dive out of the van, both directions. And then he presses on Dae Goo’s bladder, which causes Dae Goo to bolt from the van. And there’s Pan Suk waiting. He harasses them by slapping at them as they all roll out of the van. And he waves the smell away from his face as the four stumble down the street.
Back at the precinct – with empty bladders – Pan Suk tells them that they’re on their own with this mission. The first one to find it is done for the day. He has them look at the CCTV. A guy – who really kind of looks like Dae Goo even though you can't see his face – wearing a black sweat shirt and ball cap, deposits some gum in a wrapper and then throws it on the ground. It gets picked up by a street cleaner. Pan Suk declares that it’s the only DNA trace left by the Mirim apartment robber. Their assignment? Go find it.
And they’re at the garbage dump, wearing pink gloves. Soo Sun is the first to start. Gook sits there and cries. Tae Il whines. Soo Sun declares that it's the worst for her; she has the nose of a dog. Dae Goo gets frustrated and throws off his gloves. He starts to walk off but Soo Sun chases after him. She tells him that if he hadn't jumped out of the car they would have cleared their mission. He replies that she shouldn't worry. Detective Seo won't be able to fire them that easily because the Chief is backing them. Soo Sun isn’t about to throw in the towel.
Dae Goo declares that he despises trash dumps and he doesn’t want to be a sadist's plaything. She glares as she declares that he’s really something else. Does he think they like trash dumps? Gook jumps in and declares that Dae Goo has a point. As long as the Chief has their back Pan Suk can't fire them so easily. He wants to just go home and then claim that they couldn't find it. Tae Il agrees. Life is hard as is. They shouldn't have to fight either. Soo Sun is disgusted. She calls them evil traitors and asks how they can call themselves men. She calls them inconsistent disloyal bastards. She orders them to keep looking for the gum wrapper. Gook glares but he and Tae Il go back to work.
Dae Goo doesn’t care. He’s leaving. Soo Sun picks up a sack of trash and hits him in the back of the head with it. He stops and glares at her. She keeps pelting him with the bag and calling him farter! Gook is amazed that it was *him* who passed the toxic gas. Dae Goo denies it. Gook responds that this is what they mean when they say "The one who farted gets the most angry." She continues to hit him and he swings at the bag, busting it. The piece of gum they’ve been looking for goes flying.
And thus the struggle for the piece of gum begins. There’s kicking, biting and lots of hitting each other with trash. Soo Sun ends up with it and sticks it in her shirt to keep them from grabbing it. They return to the precinct, smelling really ripe. They stand before Pan Suk and Soo Sun holds out the piece of gum. Pan Suk and Eung Do are trying really hard to not throw up. Eung Do sputters ‘good job.’
Eung Do asks if they found it together and everyone – but Dae Goo – replies that they did. Eung Do repeats it, telling Pan Suk that they found it together. Pan Suk tells them to wash up and be ready in thirty minutes; they’re going to finish up the gold digger investigation. The three are super excited and Dae Goo is annoyed over the humiliation.
A classroom. A man declares, with a bunch of pretty women repeating after him, “Take advantage of a man's swagger. Men are our meal tickets. Strategy 1. Smile with your eyes and use charm. Strategy 2. Dependency on men. Order wine by the glass and meals by courses.” Diner Girl and her buddy from the club are there. Team 3 bursts in, with Eung Do ordering the room not to move and stay where they are.” The teacher tells them they have no right to barge into their office. Pan Suk replies that it's not an office. It's a crime scene.
Pan Suk looks over at the open laptop and declares that Teacher has taught them a lot. Teacher hurries over to close the laptop and demands a warrant. Pan Suk laughs and responds that if it's a situation that requires a search warrant we'll issue one. And in this case, the stuff’s out in plain sight. No warrant needed. Crook doesn’t like that answer.
Tae Il hands over a binder: A $10 bottle of wine was sold for $50 a glass. Along with tiny American beef steaks mislabeled as Korean beef. The total bill came to $530. Fraud. Teaching fraud techniques. Eung Do puts the cuffs on Teacher and tells him that he has the right to retain a lawyer. He’ll have the chance to make excuses later. Pan Suk declares that even without a search warrant, according to criminal law article 216 clause 1 number 2, the police are allowed to conduct a search and seizure at a crime scene.
Pan Suk orders the four to lock the doors and gather all notebooks, records and receipts. They shouldn’t leave one shred of paper behind. As Soo Sun goes to gather the questionnaires, she smells mugwort. The girl protests she didn’t! Pan Suk sniffs her hair and then decides to look through her purse. Pan Suk finds a joint in the girl’s box of ciggies. Dae Goo picks up the girl’s phone and sees a picture of her and her boyfriend. He doesn’t say anything.
Pan Suk tells Soo Sun to cuff Pothead Girl. She almost forgets the Miranda rights – yes, they call them Miranda rights – until Gook reminds her. Pan Suk finds some more drugs and asks the girl who her supplier is. Dae Goo looks back at the phone and remembers that the guy on the phone was talking to the guy who got stabbed in the club. Now that’s just messy, stabbing a guy in the club that you sell out of. Dealer deserves to get caught. And Pot Girl is wearing his ring.
They deliver Pot Girl to the narcotics cop from the other precinct. He looks annoyed. Pan Suk encourages the cop - Team Leader Oh – to call it even. Oh doesn’t see why he should, since they don't even know who the supplieris. Dae Goo pipes up that he thinks her boyfriend is the supplier. He holds out the phone and mentions that it’s also the guy who stabbed the guy in the club. Her phone records show she talked to him this morning. Oh snarks that Dae Goo is better than Team Leader Seo and walks off. I guess they’re even, then.
Pan Suk asks Dae Goo how long he knew that fact. Dae Goo doesn’t look at him but answers, “For awhile.” Pan Suk asks why Dae Goo’s just now mentioning it. Dae Goo does that thing he does: First, Pan Suk never asked. Second... he thought Pan Suk wouldn't believe the words of a guppy. Wow, way to throw Pan Suk’s words back in his face. I wonder what their relationship would have been like if Dae Goo wasn’t convinced that Pan Suk was responsible for Oma’s death. Pan Suk clenches his jaw and stares at Dae Goo, looking like he wants to knock his block off. Stare down. The Pan Suk orders them all to get back to the precinct.
Once there, Pan Suk comes across Sa Kyung. He follows her to her office and watches as she tends to some wounds on her back. He almost goes in but stops. She sees him through the mirror and turns around. He tries to pretend that he didn’t see anything. She tells him that he should come in and help her, if he’s going to watch.
Tender guitar music plays. She hands him the bandage. He asks what happened. She responds by saying he’s a detective. He shouldn’t act like he doesn't know. So is it an abusive boyfriend? She heads up the missing person’s unit. What would she be doing that would get her beaten like that? He asks what she got hit with. She doesn’t answer. He puts on the pain patch. Soo Sun is walking by and sees them. Pan Suk’s very gentle as he applies the patch. She shrugs her shirt back on and goes to leave. Pan Suk asks her about having dinner the next day. She turns him down. She doesn't think she can digest the food. Wow. That is really cold. I’m sure she has a reason, though. What did he do?
Soo Sun hides as Sa Kyung leaves the office. But she’s caught by Pan Suk. He asks her if she enjoyed the show. She sputters. He tells her that if she gets caught spying on him one more time, she’s dead.
Middle of the night and Gook has stumbled out of bed. He hears a noise from Dae Goo’s room. Dae Goo is asleep – not under any covers. Something’s being projected on the ceiling. Oma and Ji Yong? Gook starts to be nosey but Dae Goo grabs his hand, as shocked as Gook is by the incident. When he realizes it’s just Gook, he breathes a sigh of relief and then orders Gook to leave it and get out. Gook apologizes and leaves. And it looks to just be the TV. Dae Goo switches channels to Spongebob. He curls into a ball as he falls asleep. And I think this is the only way he can fall asleep, with some sort of noise on.
A banner reads Mirae Study Hall. Congratulations for passing government admin exam! Soo Sun narrates as we see her walk. She says, “During the past three years living here I had just one goal. To be an upstanding member of society.” If you asked her whether that was her dream, she can't say. But that's what she wanted to be… Even though today was tiring it was satisfying. She feels a little bit like an upstanding member of society.
Soo Sun arrives at Lucky Study Hall. There’s a big commotion. The new owner is kicking them all out because the last owner sold this place and ran, taking all their rental money and deposits with him. Soo Sun freaks because she paid for three months in advance. Some people paid for a whole year. The new owner declares that they’re going to demolish this place in a week, so they need to move out by then. Shady! And she won’t even let them in to get their stuff. Super shady. Soo Sun looks like she’s trying hard not to cry.
Next morning, Dae Goo arrives early and is looking through Pan Suk’s desk. Soo Sun’s already there – probably spent the night – and sees him. She doesn’t say anything but Dae Goo realizes she saw him. People start to file in, including Eung Do and Pan Suk, who’s wearing his dress blues. Pan Suk orders them to fall in.
Eung Do hands out some papers and Pan Suk declares that it’s their first case. Dae Goo and Soo Sun get a stalking case. Gook and Tae Il get a cosmetic surgery office medicine robbery. Everyone is fired up… except sour puss Dae Goo. When is he going to loosen up? I understand that he’s been on his own for 10 years and kept everyone at a distance… But man, would I really like to see Dae Goo smile and enjoy himself at least a little. Pan Suk tells them not to worry about whether the case is large or small. They just need to focus and listen. Do a wide and thorough investigation. Pan Suk declares that they are the lead detectives. Wow. Pretty cool. And victorious music plays.
Pan Suk tells them that he is headed out on a three day business trip for work training. Sure he is. If there are any questions or difficulties, they should talk to Eung Do. They’re not rookies anymore. Rookies can make mistakes but not detectives. Why? One mistake can lead to permanent consequences. And he should know… He tells them not to be overly ambitious... or be negligent. Pan Suk stresses, looking mainly at Dae Goo, they should *never* act on their own. Soo Sun looks over at her partner with a meaningful glare. Dae Goo sighs.
Soo Sun and Dae Goo are in the car, with Soo Sun driving. She says that they should do their best on their first case. He replies that she should concentrate on driving. It's hard for a bird brain to do two things at once. She glares over at him and asks if he’s going to keep calling her a bird brain? He replies that most drivers signal at this time and prepare for a lane change, adding ‘brainless’ for good measure. Soo Sun realizes that she needs to get over, but the traffic isn’t letting her in. She is able to find a spot and cheerfully tells the driver who let her in, ‘thank you.’
Phone call. It’s Strike Leader – whoever that is. Before she can really talk to him, Dae Goo takes the phone and turns it off, clucking that using her phone while driving puts lives at risk. She retorts that they’re waiting at a red light and he should give the phone back. She snatches it out of his hand and he glares at her, shocked she took it back. The phone rings again and she answers, apologizing. He fumes.
Soo Sun doesn’t like the news and starts ranting about how temporary residents protected under tenant laws. Dae Goo honks the horn, getting the attention of two policemen. He yells out the window that they should give her a ticket for talking on the phone while driving. She can’t believe him.
And she gets the ticket. She looks from the ticket to him. He acts like nothing’s wrong. It takes everything for her not to punch him. They’re in the stalking victim’s house. She’s brought them some orange juice. This poor girl. The victim was set up on a date with the guy last October. She met him twice but wasn't interested so she cutoff all contact, but he kept calling and texting her. He waits in front of her house. Girl declares that the stalker is acting crazy, saying he loves her and that she belongs to him. And it’s gotten worse since she started dating a new man. The stalker says that he's going to come at night when no one's there and kill her.
Dae Goo asks her if she has any evidence to support what she’s saying. Because the girl doesn’t, they can only classify it as stalking for now. It only carries a small fine. They have to have hard evidence to arrest him for harassment and trespassing. Poor Girl can’t believe that it’s only a misdemeanor. And I can’t either. And neither can Soo Sun. She wonders how harassing someone have the same punishment as peeing in the street? What kind of law is that? She declares that it's a lie that the country's laws protect the citizens. And I think she’s having flashes of her own problems right now. Dae Goo looks at her and then tells Poor Girl to call them when she has evidence. Dae Goo starts to leave but Soo Sun declares that they should work to gather the evidence themselves. Poor Girl is relieved and grateful. Dae Goo wants to talk outside.
Once outside, Dae Goo immediately starts yelling at Soo Sun, pointing his finger. He tells her to think before she speaks. If she lacks the capacity to think, she should keep her mouth shut. He insults her and then tells her not to overdo it. They need to do their jobs by the book. She asks him whether or not this is their job. They’re in charge of it, after all. Dae Goo insults some more, calling her immature and saying that she’s doing it to earn praise. She replies that it's not because she wants praise. She wants to help. She tells him that he’s never been a victim and don't know, since he’s a guy. He doesn’t want to listen and declares that he has no desire to be her backup dancer for her overzealous move. Waving his hand condescendingly, he tells her if she’s dead set on it, she should do it alone.
Dae Goo starts to walk away. She calls him a crappy son of a bitch. And I love how that sounds in Korean, even if I don’t like profanity. She says that she’s going to tell Pan Suk all about how Dae Goo was rifling through Pan Suk’s desk. She acts like she’s debating whether to call, and says that she’ll let it go if her helps her with the investigation. It works. He goes and asks for copies of the CCTV recordings.
While Soo Sun reviews the CCTV footage, Dae Goo checks out the stalker’s SNS page. Although it’s not officially Facebook, it sure looks like it. There’s footage of Stalker. Soo Sun declares that they need hard evidence, a recording, of his threats. Stalker calls while they’re there.
Elsewhere, Gook and Tae Il get to work on their case at New Human Plastic Surgery. What a name for a cosmetic surgery business. Gook goes up to the desk and the girl tells him that the line for facial surgery is over there. Gook takes offense, but Tae Il explains (holding up his badge) that they’re from the Gangnam Police Station. The girl tells them to go to the 12th floor and all the girls mention how good looking Tae Il is. After Tae Il leaves, a guy comes up and asks if Tae Il got his surgery there, since he wants to look like that. Funny.
Gook’s looking at CCTV footage while Tae Il interviews the nurse. The thief stole Propofol, 60 vials in a month. Gook notices that a patient changed their clothes and came back, pretending to be another patient. Nurse laughs and says that they’re different people, but they had the same father (the surgeon).
As they’re leaving, one of the doctors runs up and gives Tae Il a big embrace, exclaiming that he’s back! Tae Il tells the guy that he said not to do this. Guy pats him on the shoulder and declares that he’s still the same. Tae Il shoves it off and tells the guy not to act like he know him. Wow, Tae Il looks mad and he never looks mad. He tells the guy that this is a warning. Then he drags Gook out.
Poor Girl is waiting at a café. Stalker enters, with a smile on his face. She looks terrified. Dae Goo is sitting at the next table and starts the recorder. Soo Sun’s recording video of the meeting. Stalker declares that P.G’s perfume is just perfect. P.G. declares that she’s wearing it for her boyfriend, Yoon Jae, not him. Stalker is confused and asks what’s wrong. She tells him that she’s really starting to like the guy she’s dating. Stalker’s hand twitch. He tells P.G. not to be like that. In her heart, there's only him. She responds that he’s the one who's fooling himself. They never dated. She was never even interested in him.
Under the table, Stalker clenches his hands together. Soo Sun is not happy. She hates this guy. Don’t let your emotions run away from you, woman, and blow this! Stalker asks whether new boyfriend threatened her, that’s why she’s changed. The Yoon Jung he knows is not this cold. She replies that she became more brave because of Yoon Jae. He gave her the courage to stand up to trash like him. That gets Stalker’s attention. She called him trash. P.G. declares that she’s not afraid of him; he’s crazy. Stalker can’t believe she’s saying he’s crazy. She tells him that this is the last time she'll deal with him. His hands under the table are shaking.
Soo Sun texts Dae Goo, telling him to pretend to be P.G.’s boyfriend and provoke the stalker. That’s not entrapment at all. But he goes along with it. He gets up and takes P.G.’s hand, telling her to get up. Then he tells Stalker to stop harassing his Yoon Jung. She doesn't like him. When is Stalker going to accept it? Huh? Stalker looks at them holding hands. P.G. looks totally freaked. Stalker starts to laugh to himself. Dae Goo tells Yoon Jung to go, so they leave. Soo Sun leaves right after, muttering that her friends didn’t show. Stalker doesn’t know what to make of it.
Outside, Soo Sun tells Yoon Jung she did well, but she can’t understand why the Stalker isn’t following them. Yoon Jung wonders if she came on too strong, but Soo Sun is sure that he’s been provoked. She declares that they’ll protect her around the clock starting today. Dae Goo’s annoyed at what she just volunteered him for.
I guess Pan Suk really *was* going off training. Pan Suk’s speaking to a packed auditorium. He relates the instructor a ski instructor told : “You don't need any particular skill. Just trust yourselfand focus on your destination. If you want to go down look down. If you want to stop look up. Our bodies move in the direction we look. Trust that.” That’s deep. Pan Suk tells them that if they look toward their dreams, their bodies will move in the direction of that dream. Applause. It looks like the Police Academy. It opens up for questions. An eager cadet raises his hand and asks what Pan Suk’s first unsolved case was and why it stayed unsolved. Why ask that?
Pan Suk is affected by the question. He somberly replies that his first unsolved case was eleven years ago. It was a murder case of a school nurse in Masan. She was the sole witness in a murder case and after she agreed to testify, she was murdered in her home and her son went missing. Flashbacks of the events. Pan Suk declares that searching the crime scene revealed no evidence and the nurse was threatened before taking the stand. The person who threatened her was their number one suspect but right after that incident, he disappeared. They never got the testimony and it has remained an unsolved case.
After his presentation, Pan Suk sits outside, watching the marching. The Chief approaches. He mentions about the student asking about the case. Chief tells him that it’s about time he forgot. Pan Suk declares that he’s sure he’ll forget about it, soon, since the statute of limitations is almost up.
Soo Sun and Dae Goo are sitting in the car, watching Yoon Jung’s apartment building. Soo Sun marvels at the hard time Yoon Jung must have been having. Dae Goo’s not even listening to her talking. She asks him what he was looking for and when he finally responds, she asks him if this is Achilles heel. He grumbles but she says that she’ll keep her promise as long as he cooperates in the case. She has an idea of what he was doing, anyway. He wants to know what she’s thinking. She doesn’t say and asks if he really thinks she’s a bird brain. He grimaces and asks how long they’re going to have to sit there. She declares until the stalker gives them some hard evidence.
When Dae Goo asks when that’s going to be, Soo Sun says she doesn't know. He declares that he thought so and tells her that he’s been analyzing the stalker's state-of-mind by reviewing his comments on SNS. Soo Sun tells him to go ahead.
Later, Soo Sun has fallen asleep in the car and is snoring. Dae Goo actually lets his wall crack a little and uses his jacket to cover her… by throwing it over her face. Stalker’s feed: “If I can only keep her smile to myself. 31 Da 4854. Don't take a taxi by yourself late at night. You look best in a yellow dress. Did you change your perfume? It's so refreshing. Don't you think I can find you? I wish I didn't have a heart. I have to die if I don't want to feel.
Dae Goo watching CCTV feed of the Stalker pacing outside the apartment. An alarm goes off at midnight. Soo Sun is still asleep. He grabs his jacket and then rolls down her window to get her to wake up. She’s sheepish. Dae Goo grumbles about her sleeping 2 hours. He declares that he’s done researching the stalker's state-of-mind. Dae Goo declares that Stalker never posts anything on his SNS after 1am and of the 5840 comments left on Yoon Jung's SNS, none were posted after 1am. How can anyone think that 5840 comments in 7 months is healthy? Or not stalkerish? Plus, Stalker has no incorrect spelling and uses exact spacing in his replies. OCD a bit? Dae Goo declares that the stalker was captured on CCTV twenty-one times, but never after midnight. And now, it’s after midnight, so it’s unlikely Stalker will appear, so they can go home.
Soo Sun can’t believe he’s leaving. Dae Goo is more insulting about how stupid she is. But she’s just worried. He declares that he’s sure about it, as sure as the earth goes around the sun. Soo Sun decides that if he's that full of confidence, he must be right. She decides to leave, but gets a call from Strike Leader. She’s distracted by her call and doesn’t notice Stalker arriving in his car. Uh-oh! He's off pattern.
Upstairs, Yoon Jung sees Soo Sun’s car, so she breathes a sigh of relief. She tries calling her, but the call cannot be completed. She sends Soo Sun a text telling her that Stalker called, begging to see her one last time since it’s over. Yoon Jung stupidly has agreed to do it. She wants to get the evidence. She asks Soo Sun to follow her and meet her at the 24-hour coffee shop at the intersection. And then she goes down *and gets in Stalker’s car.* I can only shake my hands and ask ‘why?’. Stalker pretends to agree. They drive by Soo Sun, who doesn’t see them at all. Yoon Jung realizes she’s made a mistake.
Dae Goo’s at a convenience store. There’s a cool-sounding song playing on the speakers, too. Wish I knew who it was… Dae Goo stops to straighten out some cartons – he’s not OCD, is he? It makes him decide to check Stalker’s feed. There’s posts that aren’t spelled correctly. Dae Goo realizes that Stalker has had a break. He takes off running for the apartment. But Yoon Jung isn’t there. Soo Sun sees him and follows, asking what’s wrong. He tells Soo Sun to call her. And Soo Sun finally sees the text from Yoon Jung. They take off for the coffee shop, but they’re not there. They never arrived.
Soo Sun is freaking out as Dae Goo drives around looking for them. Team Leader calls but Dae Goo says not to answer. Dae Goo’s really sweating, but he’s going back over Stalker’s posts in his mind. He realizes that they’re at Do San Park. But when they arrive, there’s a crowd. It’s Yoon Jung, stabbed, probably dead. And crappers! That’s the end of the episode.
Thoughts
Wow, what an episode. We get to see a small crack in Dae Goo’s cold exterior, plus even more pointing to the fact that Pan Suk *isn’t* dirty. And the worst part of it? It seems like Dae Goo’s just repeated Pan Suk’s mistake and gotten his victim, that he’s supposed to be protecting, killed. But unlike Pan Suk, it’s his own apathy and pride that allowed it to happen.
Many questions. What’s the deal between Pan Suk and Sa Kyung? And how did she get those horrible bruises on her back? Who’s the guy who embraced Tae Il, only to be threatened by him? What made Soo Sun want to be a good productive member of society? Why doesn’t Pan Suk tell his rookies about his greatest failure? It sure would go a long way in getting Dae Goo to realize that Pan Suk is just as much a victim as he and Oma were with what happened. And when is the bad guy going to show back up? Is poor Yoon Jung really dead? Stalker, you’re going to get yours!
I love that Eung Do is like the Mom, always trying to get Dad, Pan Suk, to play nice with the children. And how rich *is* Tae Il, since he never flies coach and has been on at least 2 trips overseas to Europe? Who is the guy in the picture?
And, as if I didn’t call it, mentally, prior to this, but I didn’t bother to type it… Soo Sun’s going to be rooming with Dae Goo really soon. Ah, cohabitation hijinks which will lead to love… And Dae Goo’s going to find out just how much of an impact he had on her.
This show is so good! And I have to wait to watch the next episode!
