She Was Pretty Episode 3 Recap

Episode starts with Sung Joon leaving his meeting and seeing Ha Ri in the rearview mirror. He stops in the middle of the road and leaves his car there to run inside. He does the wrist grab and starts to ask what’s going on? Why is she there? His voice trails off as he notices her clothes. She quickly wraps both her arms around him in a hug and acts excited to see him as she quickly takes off her name badge. She throws it over her shoulder – which hits one of the hotel staff on the head.

Ha Ri lets go and asks how they met there? What is he doing there? He says he’s the one who should be asking that. Why is she there when she went to study abroad? Staffer picks up the name tag and seeing her, calls out her name. Sung Joon quickly rushes him outside. Staffer starts to follow. Outside, Sung Joon starts to try to get answers but a doorman comes up and asks him to move his car. It’s causing quite an uproar. He apologizes and tells Ha Ri to wait there while he moves it. Staffer arrives with her name badge and Ha Ri takes that moment to briefly freak out, out of Sung Joon’s ear shot. What is she going to do?

Switch to Ha Ri nervously bouncing her leg as she sits with Sung Joon at a café. She sips her drink. She says that she did go to study abroad. He replies that she did. She even sent him a picture she took in London. She asks why he thinks she’s there. She draws out the last part of the sentence and giggles, smiling broadly, and I wonder what’s in her drink. She giggles nervously and Sung Joon is not smiling. She says that she did go, but she got a call from Korea not too long afterwards. She got a chance to work at this hotel, and she got greedy. So she just returned urgently. She smiles, uncomfortable. Sung Joon’s still upset. Her leg shakes some more.

Finally, Sung Joon stifles a laugh and looks away. Turning back to her, he says that she should have called to say she came back. He almost left even when he saw her earlier, because he thought she was still in London and he was seeing things. Ha Ri holds up her arm and points at it. She just got goosebumps. As a matter of fact, she was going to call him today. She snaps her fingers and asks how they ran into each other there like this, huh?! And she is being so weird right now. He says that it’s good. He was sad when they parted ways like that. Awkward smile from Ha Ri.

As Ha Ri nervously laughs, Sung Joon says that it’s so unexpected. He never imagined she would become a hotelier. She replies that she didn't ever think he would become a Deputy Editor in Chief. This gets a thinking frown out of Sung Joon. How did she know he’s a Deputy Editor in Chief? Oops. She… says that he told her when they met the other day. He bites his lips as he thinks. He told her something like that? She says that he did. He’s willing to accept that he did. He says that, anyway, it's good to see her again, that’s what he’s saying. He mentions the Jin-sung Magazine building and says that since it’s so close to the hotel, they can see each other often. Ha Ri starts to silently cry into her drink.

Phone ringing. Caller is labeled “Landlady.” Joo Young yells for the owner – whoever they are – to answer their phone. Shin Hyuk decides to answer it. From his face, it’s not his phone. It’s Ha Ri calling. She doesn’t notice when he identifies himself but instead starts yelling as she freaks out after running into Sung Joon. She momentarily composes herself and then tells the phone that it’s going to be surprised and flip out when it hears– Thankfully, Shin Hyuk interrupts.

Shin Hyuk says that the one who is supposed to be surprised and flip out is not there at the moment. Heh. He is such a dork. Ha Ri is indeed surprised. She asks who he is. He answers with his name. Then he says that if it's a very interesting story, she could tell him and he could relay the message. Ha Ri looks at the phone, muttering, asking herself what he’s saying. She tells him that she’ll just call Hye Jin back later. She hangs up, leaving Shin Hyuk to look at Hye Jin’s phone. She looks at her own phone and wonders what the heck is going on. Did Hye Jin hand in the resignation letter or not? Ha Ri jumps to her feet, frustrated. She moans. Dang it! She has to hurry up and leave for an emergency meeting.

Later, Ha Ri is in her pajamas, anxiously waiting for Hye Jin to get home. Double bouncing legs. Finally Hye Jin arrives. Hye Jin makes a beeline for the fridge as Ha Ri asks her why she’s so late? And why didn't she answer her phone? Didn't some man tell Hye Jin that she called earlier? As Hye Jin starts to chug a huge bottle of water, Ha Ri says that that's not the important part. Does Hye Jin know what happened to her at the hotel earlier? Ha Ri moans: Ugh, what is this crap!

Hye Jin chugs the water. Ha Ri doesn’t seem to notice. She tells Hye Jin not to be surprised. Earlier at the hotel, she– Hye Jin slams the bottle down on the table and yells, “Bastard!” Ha Ri continues that she met this bastard... She stops because that wasn’t the word she was thinking of. Hye Jin wipes off her mouth and yells that she is never going to quit her job! She stomps off to her room, leaving Ha Ri confused in the kitchen.

Ha Ri follows Hye Jin to her bedroom, where Hye Jin is changing her clothes. Did she not hand in her resignation letter? She said she was going to quit today. Hye Jin loudly asks why she should. Why would she quit? She’s going to change! Just watch. Hye Jin flops down on her bed and crosses her arms defiantly. This is the kind of spunk she needs to show the rest of the world, not just think it in her head. Ha Ri asks when she quit quitting her job. Hye Jin doesn’t say anything.

Ha Ri says that it’s not important since she agrees with Hye Jin not quitting her job. She asks why all of a sudden? And what's with the bastard? Hye Jin yells that it’s Ji Sung Joon, this bastard! Ha Ri is shocked. then that bastard is Ji Sung Joon? Ha Ri has to makes sure she heard that right. She quickly sits on Hye Jin’s bed and asks if she was talking about Ji Sung Joon. She’s shocked. What is this? Even in the morning, Hye Jin was talking about how they have a special connection. Why did he become a bastard all of a sudden?

Hye Jin finally reacts. Does Ha Ri know what he said to her? Well, that bastard said–

Switch to a guy walking a black lab outside. It’s barking a lot.

Switch back to Hye Jin finishing retelling today’s events. –That's what he said! That doglike bastard! And thank you, MBC, for being clever and keeping it clean. Ha Ri can’t believe it. Sung Joon’s a really gentle and warm-hearted style. When he’s not trying to save a floundering magazine. Hye Jin says that she’s concluded is that he's a psychopath. He's always indecisive and has multiple personalities. First Love? Bullshit! Give it to the dogs! Hye Jin gets up and leaves the room. Ha Ri still is trying to process everything: What is going on over here?

In the bathroom, Hye Jin declares that now that she thinks about it, Ha Ri lying about studying abroad was God's plan. Ha Ri is sitting on the toilet listening. Hye Jin says that there's no way Sung Joon will find out, but if she handed in a resignation letter because she was scared and dumb, she would have regretted it so much. Ha Ri chews on her lip because she knows that it’s gotten a lot more complicated. She tries to disagree, Hye Jin continues that Sung Joon’s temper is like devil and the way he talks is insane. Why do you think he got the nickname 'Insane Joon' in the first day?

As Ha Ri says, “No, wait,” Hye Jin notes that there was a reason as to why he was trying to find her. He didn't have a girlfriend at that time. ‘Should I meet one of the prettiest girls from my school and try to pick her up?’ Hye Jin declares that that’s exactly it! Ha Ri replies that she’s heard that a lot somewhere before. From experience? Hye Jin declares that now they’re completely over. She’s not going to think about someone like Sung Joon and just focus on work. So don't ever talk about him in front of her! So unlucky. She stomps out of the bathroom and closes the door.

Ha Ri groans. How did the situation take a turn like that? She wonders if she should tell Hye Jin about running into Ji Sung Joon earlier or not? Well, at least now you can tell him the truth and extricate yourself. But you know that Hye Jin isn’t really sincere right now. Just hurt. So you won’t do that. Hye Jin opens the door. Much calmer, she asks Ha Ri what she was trying to say earlier. Did she say something happened to her at the hotel earlier? Ha Ri said that she’d be surprised. Ha Ri acts like she doesn’t know what Hye Jin is talking about: She did? Oh my, does she have dementia? Why can't she remember? Hye Jin frowns and tells Ha Ri that she drinks way too much these days.

Hye Jin tells Ha Ri to come out of the bathroom. Since she’s feeling down, Hye Jin proposed that they have beer today for the last time. Ha Ri decides not to tell Hye Jin about meeting Sung Joon, since Hye Jin is determined to continue going to work, and she'll just worry if she knows. Ha Ri decides that she’ll just solve this issue cleanly. Tell him that you’re not Hye Jin. That will solve the issue.

6:00 am. Sung Joon returns from his morning run. Sweaty. He gets ready for the day ahead. Goes and gets his Americano Ristretto 3 shot. Well, he orders it and then is too engrossed in his tablet that he doesn’t even notice when the server brings it to him. He thanks her. Server walks away and he goes back to his tablet. He reaches over for his coffee but grabs the flower vase instead. He drinks out of it and doesn’t notice. Although the server did. As he’s leaving the café, he walks into the glass door again. He looks at it and sighs. He steps to the left and presses the button to open it. It opens, but he doesn’t realize it until a woman walks through it and he notices that he’s not standing in front of it. He then leaves. And I laugh really hard.

At the corner, he doesn’t notice when the signal switches to walk, until someone says, “Oh? It's a ‘go.’” This gets his attention and he realizes that people are walking. Memory of him walking with Hye Jin. This is something that she always used to say. He asks why she calls the green light a "go." She says that she calls it that because it is a "go." And red lights? Red light is red light. Sung Joon tells her that it’s weird. She replies that all of her family says that. But since he pointed it out, it is a little weird.

Hye Jin is now crossing the intersection. She tells herself to just think about the monthly pay. Monthly salary. She chants that to herself until someone comes up behind her and pounces on her shoulder with a yell. It’s Shin Hyuk. He either likes her or she’s the new person to annoy. He tells her ‘Good morning!’ (in English) and offers her some of his kimbap. She doesn’t but – after sticking it in his mouth – tells her to just take one bite! He'll finish if she just takes one bite!

At the corner, Sung Joon pulls out his phone and calls Ha Ri. She’s getting ready for work. She reluctantly answers it. He asks where she is right now? She hesitantly replies that she’s at home, why? He says – and he’s so much nicer when he’s talking to her; it must be hard for him to be such a jerk to everyone – that he just wanted to ask if she was getting ready for work. Ha Ri answers that she isn’t. She says why he’s suddenly asking? He says that it’s nothing much… Does she remember a long time ago when she crossed the crosswalk– He realizes how strange it might sound and tells her, “Oh, never mind.” He tells her to get ready for work. It will be better to talk to her later. He’ll call again. He starts to hang up but she stops him and asks when he can get together. She has something to tell him. He slightly smiles at the thought.

At The Most, Seol very cheerfully brings Poong Ho some coffee. Because she’s man-hunting. Her voice is all cutesy. He tells her that he doesn't drink coffee. Can't she see him drinking his medicine? She croons that it’s full of love. Two fisted, cutesy ‘Fighting!’ He yells after her that he said he’s not drinking it! She’s moved onto Joon Woo. And then, Shin Hyuk. He looks at it and tells her that he doesn't have money. If she wants to borrow money, go borrow it from somewhere else. She cutesy squeals and slaps his arms several times as she says that he’s good at joking, Feature Editor. She playfully pokes his arm as she says that he’s a mischievous man. She giggles and scampers away. And why does that ever work? But it does. Gack.

Shin Hyuk looks at the coffee, then at her. What's wrong with her? He takes the lid off the coffee and sniffs it. Did she put something in here? His eyes light up as he gets an idea. He asks Jackson is she wants to have it? He is so wrong. She’s his new play thing. Or else he’s a school boy tormenting the girl he likes by pulling her pigtails. Or both.

Ah Reum groans to Seol that she want coffee, too; she’s so sleepy. Seol tells her to go take a jog. They say that breathing in fresh air is the best way to keep you awake. Ah Reum can’t believe that Seol just said that when she’s Seol’s sunbae.

Sung Joon enters and greets everyone. Half-hearted greeting back. Gossip trio starts an inter-office chat:
Lee Kyung: Here comes Crazy Joon.
Eun Yung: It looks like he will be firing his evil tongue today - _ -
Seon Min: I think he'll live long life full of curses LOL
It’s interrupted with Sung Joon’s text: We're holding a meeting in 10 minutes. Collective groan from the group.

Hye Jin is defiantly marking her calendar. She tells herself that 3 months is quick. Even if she’s hung upside down, the Editing Team will still be running. She declares that she’s not going to be scared like a fool. She was an ace in the Management Services as well. She looks in Sung Joon’s direction and vows that she will show him properly that she is a smart person. She’s so angry, she snaps her pencil in half.

Sandglass. Now in the meeting, Hye Jin is looking much less confident. Ah Reum says that she’s writing about 'grooming men' and cosmeceutical brands. Hye Jin is never heard the word ‘cosmeceutical’ before. As Ah Reum continues, everyone seems to know exactly what she’s talking about. Hye Jin looks at them, panicked, and wonders if it’s a different universe in there. Everyone is talking in alien language, right? She can't understand a single thing.

Sung Joon replies – and he’s sitting today – that it's not a topic that they haven’t done before. So, they should talk about this later after approaching it in new ways, not just listing a whole bunch of products. And he’s not wearing his jacket; it’s on the back of his chair. Much more ‘relaxed.’

Flip of the sandglass. Fashion Team? Joo Young says that she’s thinking of writing about representative trends over each period of times and make a connection with clothing on films. Like, the Garçonne look that represented Europe's fashion during 1920s or the military look in the '40s.

The Garçonne look is another name for the Flapper look of the 1920s, where women bobbed their hair, bound their breasts and wore straight waists, all to emulate a boyish (hence ‘garçon,’ French for boy) look. For more, check out StyleCab.com’s article on the ‘La Gaçonne’ Look, About Education, and Wikipedia’s article on Flappers.

Hye Jin has no idea what Joo Young just said: What -con? Who is that?

And I really like this idea. That would be really interesting.

As the group nods, Joo Young proposes separating them by the different time periods and to make it easy and fun to approach. Sung Joon starts rolling up his sleeves. So maybe he likes the idea? She says that she’s thinking of putting out the scenes from the films with fashion info. Seon Min watches Sung Joon roll up his sleeves, a scared look on her face. Joo Young says that she’s prepared the different era’s fashions in movies into a video clip. She asks Hye Jin to turn on the screen. Internally Hye Jin cringes: Ugh, what is the scree-? Then she realizes that Joo Young said ‘screen.’

Nervously, Hye Jin reaches over to the table where there are *8* remotes. Eight? What do they need *8* for? Instead of picking up the remote for the screen, she picks up the laser pointer, which starts dancing across Sung Joon’s face. Shin Hyuk has to stifle his laughing. And so do I. Hye Jin wonders why it isn’t working?! Joo Young points and she realizes just as Sung Joon looks in her direction. Luckily she didn’t blind him. She apologizes and Sung Joon rolls his eyes.

Hye Jin picks up another remote… but it’s for the really bright lights. Wrong again. Sung Joon covers his eyes and exhales loudly. Joo Young tells her that she means the projector screen remote control. Hye Jin apologizes again. Sung Joon frowns at her and says that he thought he told her that he hates wasting his time on useless things. Seol shakes her head and Shin Hyuk clears his throat.

Switch to the end of the meeting. Hye Jin is furiously typing. Sung Joon tells them to develop the items introduced today and talk about it in the next meeting. He asks who’s taking the minutes. Hye Jin reluctantly says that she is. Again more chuckles from the group. Sung Joon sighs and tells her to bring them to him as soon as they are organized. As he leaves, the group tells him that he’s worked hard.

Filing out, Poong Ho tells Hye Jin that she was funny today. Shin Hyuk hangs back as Hye Jin puts all the remotes away. He walks up behind her and says, in his imitation of Sung Joon, “Look here.” Startled, she spins around, addressing Shin Hyuk as Deputy Editor in Chief! He starts to crack up. And so do I. He cackles that she was tricked. He asks if she has a Deputy-Editor-in-Chief-phobia or something?

In that fakely-indifferent voice she does, Hye Jin protests loudly, asking why she would have those things? He declares with a little protest that it's so weird! She’s usually good at talking and working, but whenever she sees the Deputy Editor in Chief, she’s very nervous and hurry-scurry. And his imitation of her is funny. He conspiratorially asks what’s wrong. He leans in and says that she’s acting like a person who would get in big trouble getting caught. And I roll at his expression, with his eyebrows wiggling slightly as he tries to get her to crack. Even louder, she declares that it’s nonsense! What does he mean get caught! So funny! Ha! She leaves the conference room. His face is puzzled but smiling. She forgot something but comes back in for it, still loudly protesting that he's talking nonsense! Ha! What a nonsense! He's so funny! Wow! That's really nonsense! Really! She leaves again and Shin Hyuk smiles, telling himself that she is definitely not normal. Smile and a laugh from him.

Hye Jin tries to finish her notes, but there’s that terminology problem. She tries to find out what the cosmos- something was but Seol blows her off. She tries asking Poong Ho, but he puts her off. She tries Joo Young, but Joo Young is hurrying, in the middle of something. Joo Young gives Hye Jin some data to translate quickly and hurries off, talking into her phone. She has to take her minutes into Sung Joon like that. He frowns as he pages through them. When he finishes, he tosses them across the desk at her and puts his head in his hands. He massages his forehead with his temples.

After a minute, calling her ‘Management,’ he asks if she was sent from above. She doesn’t know what he means. I wouldn’t. He asks if she came in there with a backer. She answers that she came in formally by taking a test. Fairly through her ability. He asks her why, then, does she work for two jobs? She says that she doesn’t. She works for one job. Man, he needs to cut her some slack. I know he’s about to be really mean and she’s doing quite well under the circumstances. Why don’t you ask Joo Young why they asked for her in the first place instead of being a horse’s patootie?

Sung Joon replies that that's not it either. Why exactly is she there? The sarcasm is coming out now. In this magazine company? On top of that, she’s on the Editing Team but she doesn't know these basic terminologies? Hye Jin replies that she was transferred there from Management Services suddenly, so she hasn’t had time to learn the professional terminologies yet. Sung Joon asks if she’s saying he should let her off at suitable times? That she’s fine with just killing her time here and getting her pay? Wow. He really doesn’t pay attention. She works her butt off. She answers that that's not what she means. She twitches and says that the work there is very different from the work in the Management Services. Everyone is so busy, so there is no one to teach–

Sung Joon interrupts her, declaring that this place is not a place where you learn from someone. You have to do it yourself. He tells her that he doesn't think it’s his business to know where she came from. He only works with pros. Wow, he’s getting more and more insulting. He just accused her of being unprofessional. If she keeps acting like she lacks in academic ability, he’s telling her right now that he can make her go out with his authority. Hye Jin’s eyebrows twitch as it sinks in that her first love is telling her that he would fire her.

Sung Joon loosens his tie and declares that he doesn't care about her computer utilizing skills, so she should just organize the record correctly. He smacks the file and tells her not to just decorate the meeting record. He flings it at her and it lands on the floor. Hye Jin starts to say, “But–” but he interrupts, telling her that it will be good to hold on to her senses, because when he said that he will fire her anytime, he wasn’t saying it because he was bored. Dismissively, he waves at her and tells her that she’s dismissed. He picks up his tablet and starts reading.

She says, “Hey, Deputy Editor in Chief.” But he stops her, asking how many times does he have to tell her that he hates wasting his time in useless things? His voice shakes a little, like his meanness is cracking. Like he hates having to be like this. She blinks a few times and bows respectfully. As she picks up the file, she hears him mutter to himself, asking who suggested to bring that kind of person in here?

Hye Jin steps out of his office and sighs, like she’s accepting that even he is going to treat her this way. And typing that makes me a little misty. It’s horrible. If he only knew. Seol scurries up and tells her to come help them with working on appropriate goods. Hye Jin doesn’t have a clue what Seol is talking about. What she’s talking about is a ton of gift bags with product in them, that they’re planning on sending back to the owners, since they’re done using them. Seol tells her to separate them by brands and then they’re going to put them together by locations.

Hye Jin starts and is clueless. Seol asks if Hye Jin has dyslexia? She answers that she doesn’t. It's her first time seeing these. Seol can’t believe it. It’s her first time?!! Doesn't she buy any cosmetics? Hye Jin says that she does… in the market. Seol is practically speechless. She asks for Hye Jin to pass her a brush. Hye Jin is clueless. Seol asks if she knows what CC cream is. I guess CC cream is what the US calls foundation. What about blush? And primer? Nope. Seol asks if Hye Jin’s father a snake hunter or a ginseng digger? Hye Jin answers that her father runs a printing company. Seol answers that Hye Jin isn’t even from the mountains. How can a girl not even know such basics things about beauty? And Sung Joon walks by just at that moment. Hye Jin sees him and he sighs. Annoyed, he walks off. She groans and asks herself, why, now, of all times!

Later, Hye Jin is passing by and Joo Young (who is working with Sung Joon and Joon Woo) yells at her to bring that BK Corduroy Blouson. Again Hye Jin is clueless. Joo Young tries to help by calling out where on the rack it is, but Hye Jin’s brain isn’t processing. Joo Young walks over and gets it herself, a little irritated. Again, irritated face from Sung Joon. You know, if she wasn’t a good worker, she wouldn’t care what you thought. Idiot.

At her desk, Hye Jin is banging her head on it, moaning that, as expected, she doesn't fit in. Shin Hyuk puts a bag in her path and she smacks it open. He is pleased! She cracked it well! His face is killing me!!! He asks if she’s destroying her brain cells because she has too many? But she doesn't seem to be a genius. Eager again, he offers her a piece. Hye Jin’s mouth opens and closes a few times before she lets out a frustrated sigh and stomps away. Which puzzles Shin Hyuk. Computing… computing… He sucks some air through his teeth and says that it seems like she's really annoyed with someone. He smiles as he wonders who it is. He decides to go figure it out. He likes her because she makes things interesting.

Up at the Management Services office, Hye Jin is furiously mopping. Seul Bi is working on her nail polish. Kwang Hee and Manager are staring at Hye Jin, like she’s possessed. She tells them that if they have any work, they should give it to her. They know how she’s very good with getting job done, right? Flinging the mop to the floor, she suggests that they have an office dinner after the Management Team has finished work? She starts chanting ‘office dinner!’ Manager leans over to Hee and asks what’s wrong with her. He agrees. So excited. Seul Bi mutters that her appetite... is gone.

Switch to Manager dragging her down the hall by her name badge. He tells her to get herself together. Three months are over in no time. Hurry and go in. She begs him not to forget her, all right? He absolutely has to come get her after three months. He has to! The door opens and Manager takes that opportunity to shove her inside. He remarks that when he was young and their cow was brought to the slaughterhouse, it had the exact same expression as hers.

Seol immediately grabs her arm and throws her into the thick of what’s happening. Hye Jin carrying about 20 bags. Hye Jin helping hang up and organize clothes. Hye Jin bringing everyone coffee (unasked but most welcome). At the end of the day, she’s falling asleep on the bus. But when an old woman boards the bus, she quickly gives up her seat.

At home, necklace Oppa is there with flowers. He protests that he said he’s sorry! She’s really not going to see him, just because of that small mistake he made that one time? That gets her to stop. A small mistake one time? She mutters to herself that that’s so pathetic. He still hasn't gotten himself together, has he? She threatens him with her stiletto again, asking if she should make him come to his senses again? She goes inside to him yelling that he’ll do better. He sighs, frustrated.

A girl – who looks like Hye Jin when she was younger, seriously – pokes her head around the corner and says that just by the looks of it, he must have messed up pretty badly. He mutters that she scared him. She calls him ajusshi and says that he’s wronged her Unni, hasn’t he? He quickly figures out that she’s Ha Ri's younger sister. She replies that he can’t tell just by seeing how pretty she is? He sighs – like with disbelief. I’m wondering if he’s actually talking to Hye Jin. She asks if she should give him a tip on how to make Unni feel better. He says that he’d be grateful. Girl suggests that they go to that cafe and talk slowly while having strawberry smoothie and cheese cake.

Hye Jin walks up, frowning, and grabs the girl by the ear. This is *her* sister, Hye Rin. Girl yells. She can’t believe the girl. She also doesn’t let go even though the girl is wiggling. She tells him to hurry up and go. She's a con artist. And I looked at the credits… it is the same girl, playing a young Hye Jin and her sister, Hye Rin. Necklace Oppa looks a little shocked. Hye Jin tells him that she's not Ha Ri's sister, so he should hurry and leave. He stalks off after he hears that it’s not Ha Ri’s sister.

Hye Jin turns her attention to Hye Rin. She tells Hye Rin that she said not to come whenever you want! Finally Hye Rin gets loose. She protests that she didn't come to see Hye Jin. She came to see Ha Ri Unni! Making a noise, Hye Jin wraps Hye Rin on the forehead, which gets another yell of protest. Hye Jin warns Hye Rin that if she dares use those men who follow around Ha Ri, again, she’s going to throw Hye Rin off! How could Hye Rin come to their house like this? Go, quickly! Hye Rin yells back that Hye Jin is so ugly that she feels disgusted! That really ticks Hye Jin off. She roars, “What did you just say?!!” Hye Rin kicks her in the shin, so she doesn’t chase for long. Hye Rin stops momentarily to repeat that Hye Jin’s ugliness disgusts her! You better watch out, because it could hit you at any minute. Hye Jin used to look just like you. Hye Jin yells another threat after the fleeing Hye Rin and limps inside.

Ha Ri come out of the bathroom to find Hye Jin asleep on the floor in the hall. She asks why Hye Jin is lying there? She should go in and sleep. Weakly, Hye Jin asks if Ha Ri knows that BK Corduroy Blouson or thingy, something like that? She does; she bought one last week. That wakes Hye Jin up.

After getting her tutorial, Hye Jin wonders from when did the black corduroy jacket start to be called in these alien words, ‘BK Corduroy Blouson’? Ha Ri is doing her yoga (and she is flexible). Cos-me-ceu-ti-cal? Garçonne look? Hye Jin groans. If the admirable King Sejong the Great knew about this, he'd grip the back of his neck. Why do we use foreign language when we have our beautiful language? It's still the same clothes and cosmetics stuff. Eating a little more, she declares that all of that is just showing off. Showing off. Another bite. She should've known what she's up to before she said that she’ll show him her abilities. Ha Ri is just waiting her out.

Hye Jin starts to moan. She was such an ace back in Management Team. Ha Ri replies that Hye Jin was wrong, so what? Why does she think they are showing off? Those are the technical terms that are used in that industry. So are medical terms or words used in hotel, is that also all showing off in Hye Jin’s eyes? No, it's not. That attitude of saying fashion and beauty isn't important and looking down by saying it's all just a show off. Isn't that Hye Jin? Isn't it natural for a superior to scold employee when they don't even know the common sense?

Hye Jin protests, asking Ha Ri whose side she’s on. She says that she also wants to do well… but it's because she’s seeing and hearing everything for the first time. Ha Ri asks if Hye Jin’s made an effort. She was just going around, only thinking about Ji Sung Joon. After Hye Jin got onto the Editing Team, did she look up their magazines and read them? No answer, but Hye Jin is thinking. Ha Ri says that calling it showing off or whatever… it's not correct. Hye Jin starts to argue (but knows Ha Ri’s right) but stops. She goes to bed first. And Ha Ri is an awesome friend! Ha Richuckles to herself.

In bed, Hye Jin grumbles about that bad woman not being on her side. She knows Ha Ri is right. She gets up and decides to check out Ha Ri’s fashion magazines.

♫ When I open my eyes in the morning, the first thing that comes to my mind is you ♫
♫ I think of you ♫

There’s a note with one. From Ha Ri:
On second thought, everything I said was right, wasn't it? It bothers me if you go around getting scolded by people. Put a mark on the part where you don't know. You know how I used to read fashion magazine instead of textbooks, right? I, paraprofessional, will explain it to you!
Hye Jin chuckles. She gets to work studying.

♫ Kung Kung Kung my beating heart says ♫
♫listen to this sound gently La La La ♫
♫ It's like cool music, it's more beautiful♫
♫One two three four There are too many♫
♫I love you as much as the sky and land La La La♫
♫ I will tell you now. I will protect you ♫
♫The sweet cotton candy is♫

On the bus, she’s studying. The bus lurches and she ends up in a man’s lap. How embarrassing. He doesn’t look like he minded.

♫just like your heart, like a cloud.♫
♫ is like a cloud. Just like your heart, it's like a cloud ♫

Ha Ri giving Hye Jin her tutorial.

♫my beating heart says listen to this sound gently La La La ♫
♫ It's like cool music, it's more beautiful♫

More studying by Hye Jin, who falls asleep on the bus before going back to it.

♫One two three four There are too many♫
♫I love you as much as the sky and land La La La♫

Ha Ri’s quiz. Hye Jin can identify everything: Screw brush. Eyelash curler! Highlighter! Eyebrow tint! Mascara. Lip tint. Blush.

Out at a café, Ha Ri tells Hye Jin to explain the clothes of a woman walking by. Of course, she gets them all right.

Work. Ra Ra comes down the stairs and declares that what Joon Woo is holding is it’s not Most-like . She asks Joon Woo to get her a fringe skirt. Hye Jin quickly does, getting a “Thank you, Lint.” Joo Young is a little surprised. Ra Ra says “'Moda' (Fashion).” Yes it's this feel. Now it's more "Most-like." And it does look cool. As she walks away, she gives Hye Jin a wink. Sung Joon walks by, glances at the outfit, at Hye Jin again and walks away. Hye Jin breaks into a big grin.

Planning conference. Pictures of the beautiful Audrey Hepburn. Joo Young says that they can’t miss out the Hepburn-look during the '40s and '50s. Capri pants, ballet shoes from the film ‘Sabrina,’ and those black see-through and bug eye sunglasses from the film ‘Breakfast at Tiffany's.’ Joo Young says that she’s going to talk about Hepburn’s representing looks, separating by each item. Hye Jin happily thinks that she can hear it! She can here everything! She can hear all the alien language now!

An ‘Ee-hee!’ escapes her lips. Everyone stops and looks at her. Shin Hyuk starts to chuckle. Sung Joon asks if she just said ‘Ee-hee?’ Hye Jin has to start fervently start apologizing. He sighs and shakes his head. Shin Hyuk looks at her and smiles.

Minutes time with Sung Joon. Watching him read, she thinks, “There isn't any flaw you can find today, right? It's perfect, right?” He looks up and she looks expectant. He tells her that she can leave. She tries to proudly walk out, but ends up dumping a bunch of folders on the floor. More sorries. She quickly replaces the folders.

Leaving his office, she moans that it could've been perfect. She returns to her desk and sits down, frustrated. Shin Hyuk rolls over. He leans in quite close and says that he’d like to do it today. She is clueless. He’s surprised that she forgot. She said she’d buy him a hotdog later. He really likes to eat. She replies that she has no intention of spending money though. He says that he has a lot of intention. There is a really good dukbokki place right in front. Does she want to go after they leave work? She tells him, ‘No, thank you.’ He moans and says that it’s fine. He’ll eat by himself. He holds out his hand and tells her to give him the money. And she does for some reason. Three thousand won is enough, right?

Shin Hyuk asks why she’s taking his joke so seriously? He groans that she’s making him feel embarrassed. He shakes her wallet and pulls out a coin. When he flips this coin, if it is heads she pays and if it is tails she doesn't pay. Is she in? She asks why she has to do it like that? He goes ahead, so she calls it and it ends up ‘tails.’ He declares that it’s heads, so she has to spend money in the end either ways. She yells, very loudly, asking how it’s heads? It's tails! This gets the whole office’s attention.

Shin Hyuk waves for them to ignore it. Quieter, he asks what she’s talking about. The number is heads and the general is tails! She answers that General Lee Soon Shin is heads and the number is tails! He asks if she’s sure. Is it confirmed as a law? It isn’t but–- Has she checked with the examiner? It's not that... He tells ‘Jackson’ to look here. A foreigner came to Korea for a trip. What would a foreigner look at to distinguish the coins from each other? The general? Or numbers such as 100 and 500? She has to admit that it’s the numbers. He says that the most important thing that helps someone distinguish the coins are the numbers! That is why the numbers are heads, you got it? She looks away, stunned at his logic. I would just pull out the coins and ask what body part is on them: a head. Heads!

Shin Hyuk leans his cheek into his hand, sighs and shakes his head. He tells Jackson that she needs to work on her common sense. Anyways, she’s paying for the food after they leave work, okay? He adds “How could you live with me?” and rolls back to his desk. What?! He is crazy… I want some crazy. She looks at the coin and says that she’s been thinking it was the other side. At his desk, Shin Hyuk smiles into his hand, amused. He’s starting to *like* her.

Ha Ri is trying to figure out what she’s going to say to Sung Joon. She gets a text from That Woman not to be late. She remembers Dad's birthday.

Hye Jin presents a file to Joo Young. Joo Young says that she emailed Hye Jin the translated file earlier. Did Hye Jin check it? Hye Jin says that while she was researching, she found more resources that are related, so she tried translating them as well. She hoped it would be helpful. Joo Young smiles and says that Hye Jin does have some sense. Hye Jin gets a ‘Thanks’ which makes her smile.

Joo Young gives Hye Jin some books to return to the office library. Wow, it’s awesome. Look at all those books!

Heading to his car, Sung Joon gets a call from Ha Ri, who asks to push their appointment back for about 2 hours. He’s disappointed but acts like he isn’t. He heads back inside.

Hye Jin is taking in all the books. She sees a kid’s book: ‘Shining, Find the Hidden Picture.’ She smiles. It’s a book from Appa’s publishing company. She sighs and says that she used to love this book. She starts to read. Sung Joon has also ended up in the library. Her phone rings and she quickly answers it. Shin Hyuk moans, asking how she can run away like that when she promised to pay for the dukbokki? She knows she won’t get rid of him, so she puts the book back and goes. Sung Joon misses seeing her but spots the book. It makes him smile.

Ha Ri arrives at her father’s house. That Woman has wrapped a tie for her. She also criticizes Ha Ri’s outfit for not matching the atmosphere of the house. At dinner, Ha Ri presents Dad with a different gift: a belt. Dad is happy; That Woman is not. He asks why she bought one. She smiles and says that of course she has to buy a gift; she’s his daughter after all. That Woman shoots daggers at her. Dad chuckles and says that seeing Ha Ri more often would be a present. She doesn't come back home these days.

Dad gets a phone call that he has to take. He leave Ha Ri and That Woman to eat. Great. That Woman says that Ha Ri doesn’t have time to reply to her texts, but Ha Ri has time to buy a gift. Ha Ri replies that her principle is 'do what I must do,' so even though she sometimes gets called rude, she never hears that she has no sense. That Woman says that it seems that Ha Ri is very sociable. Especially to men. That Woman heard that some guys called her out and she went a hotel to have fun. Is she talking about the birthday party? Did you even bother to wish her ‘happy birthday,’ That Woman? That Woman says that based on the way she looks and plays around, is her preference flashy? I think it’s probably translated more trashy or slutty. Wow. Love That Woman. That Woman chuckles and wonders where Ha Ri inherited it from. Stepmom.

Very hurt and obviously so, Ha Ri says that she was having a birthday party, with friends. That Woman says that the place is Dad’s friend's hotel. Fitness center and spa, there are many of her acquaintances. If Ha Ri is going to play around, can she do so within appropriate measures? Ha Ri chuckles bitterly. That Woman adds that at least Ha Ri should stay within the line where That Woman can still manage her facial expressions. Ha Ri replies that if That Woman likes moderate things that much, she should have done it moderately. Then she could *have* some facial expressions. Did she overdo it this time? The injections? Dang! Go, girl!

That Woman sighs loudly. With Ha Ri’s rude manners and that cheap attitude, It seems that not only Ha Ri’s looks, but also her personality, totally resembles her mother's. Wow. I didn’t like her before; I really don’t like That Woman now. And her name is changed the That Witch. Ha Ri stands. Hurt, she asks what That Witch knows about her mom, that gives That Witch the right to speak so carelessly of her? Who is she to badmouth her mom? She yells the last part, which gets a “What are you two doing?” yell from Dad.

Ha Ri protests that this woman was badmouthing her mom. Dad stops her with a slap to the face. She looks at Dad, hurt. That Witch looks shocked, too. He demands that she apologize now for calling That Witch “this woman. When she hesitates, he yells at her to hurry up and do it! Tearfully, her voice shaking, Ha Ri says that she committed a serious offense. If That Witch can generously forgive her, she would be really grateful. And I can completely relate to how Ha Ri feels when a parent picks your step- over you, especially when it’s a bad relationship between the two of you. The betrayal really stings. Ha Ri asks if it’s enough? She says that she will get out now. She leaves.

Outside the house, she makes a call, but the person doesn’t answer. It’s probably Hye Jin that she’s calling, trying not to cry. I feel so bad for her, how miserable and alone she looks.

Hye Jin is buying the dukbokki. Shin Hyuk is offended. If she was going to buy it, why did she run away? She asks what he means. She’s buying it right now. He picks some up and it falls off his stick and spills down his shirt. Complaining grunts from Shin Hyuk as he tries to wipe the sauce off his shirt, so Hye Jin misses Ha Ri’s call. Hye Jin mutters to herself that it's not that easy to look that cheap but wow...

Shin Hyuk stops and puts his arm around Hye Jin. He asks Jackson if he can have a fish cake? He would feel regretful if he doesn't. And he leaves his arm there. He totally likes her. He is like an 8-year-old! Hye Jin looks away and mutters that annoying jerks always asks for more. Pleasantly, though, she tells him to eat to his heart's content. His eyes light up as he says ‘Thank you!’ and quickly grabs a rice cake. And just as quickly burns his tongue as he bites into it. He takes some of the mustard and coats his tongue. The image of him holding his yellow tongue so it sticks out of his mouth is priceless and hysterical.

He chews and looks at her. She’s giving him a strange look. He asks if he has something on his face? She half smiles and shakes her head ‘no.’ She tells him to have a lot. He gives her a happy ‘thank you’ (in English) and eats some more. She asks if he only eats cup noodles, sausages, and kimbap every day? He nods and says that guys who live alone just eat like that. She’s surprised that he lives alone. What about his own home?

At just that moment, he spills some soup down her shirt. He starts patting her dry with paper towels – which is almost a little frisky there – so she misses a text from Ha Ri asking where she is. She needs Hye Jin to keep her company now. Poor Ha Ri.

Sung Joon arrives at the restaurant for his meeting with ‘Hye Jin.’

Ha Ri is at a loud club, drinking.

Sung Joon waits and waits. Eventually he gets a call from Ha Ri.

Shin Hyuk is finally done eating. He tells her that he’s always ready to eat so she can always treat him. She says that she has to take the bus. Shin Hyuk pats his belly, saying that he’s really full. He’ll walk. He lifts his hand in ‘goodbye’ and says “See you tomorrow” (in English). As he walks away, he yawns, scratches his butt and lifts his pants to adjust his pants (or fart). And, again, I am cracking up. She tells herself that Shin Hyuk must be beyond poor to be mooching off of her. I’m suspecting more and more that he’s not. That he’s the Chairman’s son. She mutters that with tuition loans and employment funds, the company doesn't pay people enough to live on. She tells herself that she will think of it as helping a needy neighbor who is in dire straits. He turns around and waves enthusiastically at her. Probably checking to see if she’s watching him walk away.

Now free of Shin Hyuk, she looks at her phone and sees Ha Ri’s message. She immediately calls. At the club, Ha Ri’s no longer really conscious. The bartender answers and gives Ha Ri’s location. She’s getting scouted by a guy – Kim Sung Oh, the Mayor from ‘Warm and Cozy.’ He asks if she watched the news today? There was a report on global warming. Turns out the reason for global warming was her. Wow, that’s bad! And this haircut is killing me. She looks at him and says that he’s saying that she’s very hot. She rolls her eyes. He asks if it was too cheesy? She groans.

Looking at her legs, he asks if she has a boyfriend. She looks like she surely has one. She can probably have one or two more. Want to go out together? She asks him to go away? She’s really annoyed that he’s like a beggar. He laughs and tries to push it. He tells her that it's so obvious that she’s there alone like this because she wants to have a good time. It doesn't suit her to act all haughty. She asks him if his wife knows that he’s like this… a beggar-like jerk.

Sung Joon arrives to see Jerk grab and twist Ha Ri’s wrist as she tries to walk away. He hurries over and grabs Ha Ri’s wrist free from the guy, asking what he’s doing. He and Jerk look at each other. Ha Ri picks up the pineapple drink she had and proceeds to whale on Jerk’s head several times with it. Sung Joon pulls her off him and bartender pulls Jerk away when he tries to beat up Ha Ri.

Jerk is now in the bathroom, looking at the cut over his eye. Sung Joon enters. He puts his sandglass loudly down on the countertop. Jerk looks at him and asks what he is. Sung Joon replies that Jerk doesn’t need to know what he is. Jerk just needs to go and apologize to that woman. He has 3 mintues. Jerk sniffs and asks who Sung Joon is to give him 3 minutes? Is he (Jerk) a microwave? Suing her is not even enough, but apologize to her?

Gossip trio are out together. Eun Yung moans about all those ideas they had being killed. Seon Min disagrees. They need to pay attention to Sung Joon’s forearms in the meetings.

The sandglass is almost empty. Sung Joon tells Jerk that time's running out. He should hurry up. He repeats that Jerk should apologize. Jerk mutters, asking if a dog is barking somewhere. Sung Joon sighs and washes his hands. He looks in mirror and starts to roll up his sleeves as he says that he hates wasting time on useless things. Seon Min’s voiceover tells the others that when Sung Joon thinks ‘this is it’ or when he decides on something, he rolls up his sleeves. It must be his habit. Jerk looks at Sung Joon, wondering what he’s doing.

Hye Jin arrives at the bar.

Sung Joon walks up to Ha Ri and asks if she’s okay. She nods. He starts to take her hand to help her go and she winces with pain. Her hand is cut up from the pineapple. He helps her walk out just as Hye Jin enters. She comes across Jerk, who now has a very bloody nose, and gasps. She asks the bartender about Ha Ri. He says that some guy came to pick her up and they left. She leaves, wondering who the guy is.

Sung Joon has taken Ha Ri to the hospital. She starts to fill out the form and Sung Joon asks if she had a name change. She wrote her name wrong. Instead of confessing right then, she says that her mind isn’t working. Nurse asks if Sung Joon is going to fill out a form too. It’s scratched from where Jerk hit him in the head with a bottle. He says that it’s nothing much. Ha Ri worries that it might scar. He smiles and says that he’s really okay, Kim Hye Jin-shi. She sighs.

They head to the pharmacy and he tells her to not be lax and make sure she takes her medicine. He’ll check on her. She asks why he isn’t asking… about forgetting their date and drinking alone. He says that something bad must have happened. It's probably not something nice, so he didn't want to bring it up again. She starts to tell him why she wanted them to meet, but he drags her over to a restaurant. She sadly stares at the food, because it’s a lot of calories. He tells her that she has to at least have something. She should have haejangguk, since you drank a lot. She doesn’t argue and eats.

Sung Joon takes a bite and says that it doesn't taste the same there either. He mentions that a long time ago, he was a little fat. She laughs at him using ‘a little.’ He was a total pig... She looks up and he’s smiling – fortunately! She changes it to he was a little overweight– She takes another bite. He says that his Oma said that his face became half and made him eat this always. Back then, it was something he hated to eat the most. But since she passed away, he’s been thinking about it. No matter how much he ate it elsewhere, it doesn't taste like Oma’s. Aw, Ha Ri can relate.

He says that this tastes good too. But thinking that Oma, who stood in front of a stove for hours to make this for me, is no longer here, it’s even more regretful. Ha Ri looks a little uncomfortable. He says that since he met Hye Jin again, he gets to talk about all kinds of things. It must be because it's been a long time since he met someone he didn't have to explain himself to. He smiles and tells her to eat. He asks what she wanted to talk to him about. She hesitates.

At work, a co-worker finds the list she was making earlier. It’s the Ladder Game. In reading it, they wonder what it’s about, a little concerned since it’s about her family immigrating abroad.

Sung Joon knocks on the table in front of Ha Ri and asks again what she wanted to say. Or, is it something that’s hard to say? She says that it isn’t. Last time when they met at the hotel, it bothered her that they only saw each other a little. She was thinking about slowly starting to eat with him. He chuckles and asks what she’s talking about. He tells her that she is also very bland. Cutesy (but not in an obnoxious way) she asks if she should put more salt on it, if it’s so bland. He laughs and says that the soup is getting cold, just eat.

Ha Ri thinks that Sung Joon got hurt because of her. Telling him about it today is a bit– She’ll just do it next time.

Hye Jin is pacing outside their house. Her voiceover says that they say you only see as much of the world as you know about it, and it may be the same for humans. Lots of time passes. Finally Ha Ri arrives. When Hye Jin sees the bandage on her hand, she gets really motherly.

In her room, Ha Ri looks at the medicine labeled ‘Kim Hye Jin’ and sighs. She gets a text from Sung Joon, asking if she got in okay? He tells her to be careful with her hand until it’s all healed.

Hye Jin’s VO says that you start seeing him more clearly, as you get to know them. Ha Ri’s head drops as VO says, “Just like Ha Ri, that day.”

Next day, Sung Joon is at the coffee shop waiting on his coffee again. He’s absorbed into his tablet, again. Server brings it again but this time she grabs the vase so he doesn’t drink out of it. He gets up to leave but gets a call. Caller sent an email. When sits down, he accidentally sits on something. He looks around for the owner.

Hye Jin is hard at work. She tells caller – Hye Rin- to go home and don't go and see Ha Ri. Hye Rin isn’t listening. Hye Jin says that she’s coming! Hanging up, she asks who Hye Rin’s taking after to behave like that.

In the coffee shop at girl tells Sung Joon that the notebook he’s holding is hers. It’s Hye Rin. His jaw drops a little. A ticked Hye Jin arrives at the coffee shop. She sees Sung Joon smiling at Hye Rin and gasps. Episode ends.

Thoughts

Several things happened in this episode:
  1. Shin Hyuk harassed Hye Jin. I really think that he was intrigued by Jackson but now he’s starting to like her. That smile after the heads-tails bet said that to me. Plus, after wheedling a date out of her, he stood there with his arm around her for awhile. And I think he walked away so she could check him out. Because he likes her.
  2. Hye Jin started to show that she’s not wasted space or a waste of Sung Joon’s time. Yes, she’s green, but she’s learning fast.
  3. Sung Joon can really be a jerk when he wants to be. Man, some of the times when he talked to her, I was shocked at how cruel he was. It’s like he took all the tormenting and used it as his template on how to be cruel. Super cruel. He’s meaner to her than to anyone else. It’s like the fact that she’s named Kim Hye Jin just makes her all the more irritating, whether he realizes it or not. But Park Seo Joon did a good job of showing how Sung Joon doesn’t enjoy being a jerk (unlike Mean Girls who thoroughly enjoy it). When his voice cracked after being ultra-cruel to Hye Jin, it was like he was uncomfortable wearing the mean suit.
  4. I do wonder about how absorbed he can get in his tablet. Why does he think so hard that he’s oblivious?
  5. Another puzzle piece: “It’s a go!” Probably shouted by Hye Jin, herself.
  6. Another puzzle piece: Hye Rin.
  7. Ha Ri shows how she is an awesome friend. I really hope that these women are in another drama together as best friends, because they do such a great job of it in this one. Ha Ri didn’t just itch Hye Jin’s ears about how mean Sung Joon was – even though he really was – she told Hye Jin what she needed to hear. She called Hye Jin on being a victim instead of working to fix things. And then, when Hye Jin humbled out, she didn’t rub it in but eagerly worked hard to help her friend overcome this shortcoming.
  8. We figure out that That Witch (formerly That Woman) is Ha Ri’s step-mother. That scene with the dad was painful to watch, particularly because That Witch needs to grow up. And Dad not only slapped Ha Ri but made her apologize when That Witch was being totally cruel. Not only did Ha Ri have to lose her mom, but That Witch slams her mom all the time and her Dad sides with (and chooses) That Witch over her every time. That really sucks to go through. It makes you feel really, really lonely.
  9. Ha Ri had the chance to tell Sung Joon but didn’t. She’s chickening out.
  10. Hye Jin has a younger sister, named Hye Rin, who looks exactly like she used to. Hye Rin is a little imp.
  11. Ra Ra’s nephew works at The Most. My money is on Shin Hyuk. That leather jacket he was wearing was *really* expensive because it was good-quality leather.
  12. And even though it seems like Shin Hyuk is starting to like Hye Jin, he had his first interaction with Ha Ri and I really hope that in the end, the two (Ha Ri and Shin Hyuk) end up together. We already know that Sung Joon and Hye Jin are going to end up together at the end of this. But I’d really like for Ha Ri and Shin Hyuk to find that connection, too. Ha Ri deserves a lovable, ultra-rich goofball. And I can see Shin Hyuk being himself and totally, pleasantly, putting That Witch in her place. With a smile on his face, of course.
