Sweet Stranger and Me Episode 10 Recap

Episode starts with the confrontation with Weasel. For those of you who missed it, I’m calling Uncle Weasel now, because of what he’s doing right now. Weasel tells Na Ri that Abeoji died last year. Na Ri’s shocked face. Nan Gil asking what Weasel is talking about. Indignant, Weasel say that he’s telling Na Ri what Nan Gil hiding from her! Na Ri looks at Nan Gil, asking for an explanation. Nan Gil looks pale. Trying to hold it together, he says that Weasel told him that Weasel saw Abeoji last spring. Weasel’s indignant face says ‘uh-oh.’ He forgot about that. How could Weasel see someone who died a long time ago then? Weasel protests – but it’s so obvious that he’s been caught in a lie – who is Nan Gil saying saw whom?! Nan Gil looks at Weasel, pleading for Weasel to stop.

Nan Gil is actually really patient with this guy, given everything. He’s trying to get Weasel to stop lying, not for himself, but for Na Ri. He knows Weasel is being twisted by Director. Given what I know about Nan Gil, he’s begging Weasel to stop for Weasel’s sake, too.

Na Ri says that she remember Weasel saying it, too. Weasel is really surprised. Na Ri says that Weasel told Oma and her that he saw Abeoji. He said he thought Abeoji was still gambling. Bad lying from Weasel. No, that time... he could have mistaken him... He remembers what Wan Shik said about the death certificate and says that he confirmed it! How this man can lie with such bluster. Just like Yeo Joo, he’s so used to twisting people’s emotions to get him what he wants. Nan Gil gets more worried when Weasel says this. Na Ri wants to know would show Weasel Abeoji’s death certificate? Especially since he’s not related to Abeoji.

Nan Gil tells Weasel to come talk with him. Na Ri tells Nan Gil no. This is about Abeoji. Uncle and she are going to talk about it. Weasel tells her that there's no need for her to go through heartache because of a father that she hasn’t seen in over 20 years. Na Ri declares that she’s not hurting. But how could Weasel suddenly show up and say, "Abeoji died"?

Weasel ‘apologizes.’ He tells her to pretend like he didn’t say it. She demands to know how she’s supposed to pretend she didn't hear it?! She knows Weasel, his character, his propensity to gambling just like Abeoji. How he was always asking Oma for money. Nan Gil looks at Na Ri, hurting for her that Dada is doing this to her. Weasel protests: Why is Na Ri yelling at him?! Because you’re a Weasel! He protests that he lived with Na Ri for 20 years! Is he worse than Abeoji who died after abandoning his wife and daughter? Wow, he really screamed right there. Emotional manipulators on full! And Yeo Joo – the compulsive manipulator – is listening to everything.

Na Ri brings some water for Weasel as he clears his throat. It appears that he hurt his throat, screaming at her. Nan Gil looks at Na Ri. She looks him – it seems like her face is also saying that if Nan Gil had just talked to her about this, they wouldn’t have to be sitting through this. Cocky, he holds out his piece of paper. Nan Gil’s got it, right? It's over for Nan Gil if this goes to court. Weasel tells Na Ri not to worry about a thing. Na Ri asks what the paper is. Weasel asks what else she thinks it could be. He’s suing Nan Gil. She looks at Nan Gil and ask if he got the summons. Nan Gil looks down. He knows he should have said something. It’s not a guilty look though, like he was hiding it, more like he’s sorry that he didn’t say something to Na Ri first.

Weasel continues to be cocky. Nan Gil knows the date, right? Don't even think about running away! Weasel thinks he’s got Na Ri now. Calmly, Nan Gil says that he has no intentions of running away. Weasel is shocked that Nan Gil isn’t crumbling. He checks Na Ri’s face – because he knows that this response is going to work in Nan Gil’s favor. Not that Nan Gil is doing it to be manipulative – unlike some people – Nan Gil’s just being Nan Gil. He won’t ever tell her a lie.

Nan Gil tells Weasel not to get used by Dada Finance. Omeoni’s land...No, it's Na Ri's land right now. Which is what all this is about. And Uncle knows that it’s what Dada is after, Director all but said so. Weasel asks what the big deal is about the land. The living have to survive! This is where Nan Gil loses patience – although we still don’t know why the land is so important – and steps into Weasel’s face. How can he say that?! And Nan Gil has got his enforcer face and voice on. Na Ri shifts – as if asking that Nan Gil not lose it.

Weasel asks if Nan Gil is threatening him right now? And he’s very familiar with the enforcer face and voice. He’s dealt with enforcers enough. Nan Gil’s got no fear at all! Nan Gil’s calm again. Because he’s not going back to being that guy. Weasel tells Na Ri to listen to him. She can't ever be with this guy. If you stay next to dirt, you become dirty. Nan Gil is looking at Na Ri and she is looking at him, rather than Weasel. His face says he’s sorry and her face says she wished he had trusted her enough to tell him himself.

Weasel begs her not to meet up with or talk to this guy anymore! Her value will drop! Weasel says that he’s doing this to save her. She knows that Nan Gil’s doing all this for her, to save her. She’s known that for a while. It’s less in Weasel’s character. Na Ri breaks her gaze when Weasel says that. After all, he is her uncle. He is supposed to look out for her. Nan Gil continues to look at her. Weasel tells her to make sure she takes his side in the courtroom.

Na Ri looks at Weasel. He says that there are a lot of things to prepare for the trial. Just trust him. Na Ri looks back at Nan Gil – because Nan Gil has told her to trust him and she’s been doing that. Weasel declares that he needs to go get ready for the trial. That late at night, he’s going to be meeting his lawyer. Right. He runs out of the house. I didn’t say scurry this time. He’s running.

Na Ri hurries after Weasel. Nan Gil just stands there. He looks like he thinks he’s blown it. He sighs and drops his head. Because he’s doing what he always does, accepting that he can never have Na Ri and deciding to not even fight for her.

Outside, Na Ri stops Weasel. He tells her that his lawyer will call her and asks that she read this document. If Weasel is so strapped for cash, how does he have the money for a lawyer? Weasel tell her that she must be on his side, okay? He shoves the paper in Na Ri’s hand, waves his hands – like he knows he’s just done a bad, bad thing but he doesn’t want to clean up his mess – and scurries away. Na Ri looks down at the paper. It says “Incident Report.” She looks at where Weasel ran, sighing, and turns around. Nan Gil has come out of the house. He’s waiting for her to tell him that it’s over. Sometimes I want to shake him. They look at each other and don’t say anything.

Weasel scurries off to where Wan Shik is waiting. Wan Shik has a smile on his face. You’re going to regret this later, dude. You know you will. You’re ticked at Nan Gil right now, but he’s your brother. He opens up the door for Weasel and checks to make sure no one’s looking. In the car, Weasel sighs. Wan Shik puts a ‘friendly’ hand on Weasel’s leg, calls him ‘Uncle’ – to rub the betrayal in – and tells him that he followed orders well. Weasel says he did.

Wan Shik asks if Weasel forgot anything. He didn't leave anything out, right? Weasel answer an indignant affirmative. Wan Shik smiles at Weasel’s lack of character. Weasel actually looks like he hates himself a little. I’m surprised. They drive away.

Nan Gil approaches Na Ri. His face is calm, just waiting for it. Calmly – in the voice she’s been using with him, the one where she’s also saying that she loves him, accepts him and trusts him – she asks if there’s something that he's still hiding from her. He doesn’t say anything. Just waiting. Na Ri says that he’s not answering. Gently, Nan Gil says that Dada Finance is using Weasel to try to take him to court for a marriage annulment. From that time on, Weasel’s been insisting that Abeoji died.

Na Ri says that Weasel said he saw the death certificate. Nan Gil answers that Dada Finance can make things like that easily. He says that he’s going to confirm it personally. He’s going to do the TV show and look into it. Na Ri tells him ‘no.’ Weasel definitely said that he saw Abeoji last year. I love that she’s telling him not to even investigate because she knows Weasel’s lying and Dada is behind it. And most of all, she knows that Nan Gil hasn’t been lying to her. She tells him not to worry too much about what Weasel said. Again, she’s reassuring him. It’s so sweet.

Nan Gil says that most of what her family says is right. Not saying what he’s thinking: that he’s a bad guy and Na Ri shouldn’t want to be anywhere near him. Nan Gil says – starting to walk away – that he– Na Ri cuts him off and finishes his sentence: have to go knead dough, huh? He drops his head and walks off. Na Ri sighs.

Duk Bong enters Duk Shim’s room without knocking. She’s sitting on her bed, using her phone. She doesn’t yell at him. He wait for her to flip out, says ‘oh!’ because he’s surprised. He goes back out and shuts the door. He opens it again, not walking in, waiting for her yell. No yell. He enters, asking why she’s just doing that? It's no fun. Heh. I love that he’s grown to appreciate her yelling and it’s unnerving him a bit that she’s staying calm. Duk Shim doesn’t look up as she says that she’s decided to ignore him. Stretching her words out for emphasis, she says: Completely and totally ignore him.

Duk Bong’s smiling at her. He asks if she’s good at fighting. This gets her to look at him: What is he talking about? Duk Bong asks how she ended up ripping Yeo Joo's clothes. Heh – he’s proud that his sister’s a thug. Hehe. She indignantly sits up and asks if she said she hit Yeo Joo first. I guess no more ignoring your Oppa, huhn. Duk Shim sighs at the injustice. That woman was a 100% first-rate bully in high school. Grabbing you in the front, pushing you against the wall and locking your arms. She's definitely first-rate.

Duk Bong wonders how Duk Shim knows that Yeo Joo is first-rate. Duk Shim puts her headphones on to ignore him. He moans in disappointment and takes them off her head. He says that something happened to her at school, didn't it? Aw, that’s what he got out of it, that Duk Shim’s been bullied. I love him so much.

Duk Shim looks at him and asks if he really like Hong Na Ri instead of that woman? He gives her a ‘ho-ho.’ Sucking in air like he does when he’s calling people out after sizing them up, he declares that Duk Shim is becoming an expert at beating around the bush. Duk Shim answers that Yeo Joo looks like his "first love" – air quotes around first love, I love it, her sarcasm – who stabbed him in the back. Duk Shim declares that he can’t ever be with that woman (Yeo Joo)! She doesn’t like anyone that her brother is interested in, heh.

She realizes that it sounded like she cared. It did. She says that she’s not being considerate of him. She sighs and says that even though Na Ri’s a little annoying, she’s on Na Ri's side. She tells him that she wishes him luck. He’s just looking at her. After a beat, he tells her to pack her things. She puts her headphones back on. He sighs and says that he’s seeing Duk Shim in all different ways. He leaves. They both knew that threat wasn’t legitimate. Heh.

Inside the house now, Na Ri sits, looking at the Incident Report. Nan Gil is, out in his chef clothes, sighing loudly and kneading the dough. She comes out and asks him why he didn't tell her about the marriage annulment lawsuit. It’s not a ‘I’m hurt, how could you!’ but a ‘why didn’t you say something?! Aren’t we past this, you keeping secrets?’ Nan Gil says that he was trying to figure out how to tell her.

Na Ri asks why he has to think about it? He replies that it’s because he has to win in court. Because Hong Na Ri, Omeoni’s daughter, is the most important thing if he’s going to win. It was hard for him to ask her to be his witness. She tells him – a little scolding but not much – that he should have told her. She has no intentions of becoming his witness. He stops kneading but doesn’t look at her. And he’s taking that in a way that’s totally different than what she meant.

Na Ri goes on: It seems like he’s forgotten, but they’re dating right now. He made her come back and confessed to her. Nan Gil’s face says that he regrets his weakness, in letting himself do that. Na Ri says that Weasel is suing him for a marriage annulment, so he should take advantage of this opportunity while he has it! And she’s scolding him for not taking care of himself.

Nan Gil turns to her and says that she asked him what this place means to him, didn't she? He’ll tell her again. It means more to him than Hong Na Ri. So he can't give it up. Even though that sounds like he’s saying that it means more to him than she does, I don’t think he’s saying that. He’s saying that there’s other reasons why this place is important, besides Na Ri. Na Ri sighs and asks if he’s saying that he’ll live here forever as stepfather and daughter. I don’t think he’s saying *that.* Not forever, just for now. His face looks like he’s asking her to understand him.

Na Ri looks away and says that she doesn't want to. She's not going to do it. Aw, she wants to get this relationship on the road. She was never like that with Dong Jin. He as much said that in their last conversation. It was Na Ri who didn’t take those opportunities to get married. Na Ri declares that people can break up. Their love can cool down, too. But she can't be in this kind of relationship anymore. Aw, she’s telling him that she’s willing to risk the risk.

Na Ri says that she’s never going to be his witness. He says her name and she tells him not to. Don't call her name. Don't do anything! Aw, Na Ri’s upset because he’s doing this for her, but it’s keeping her from having him. Here’s a virtual hug, Na Ri. She declares that she doesn't even know what they're fighting about or why. She shakes her head and says that she can't understand it or make sense of it. I totally get what she’s saying. Why are they arguing about this when they both want to be together and this can make that happen?

She tells him that they should stop. She doesn't want to yell at him anymore, and she doesn't want to put him through heartache either. Aw, she knows him so well. She knew he was hurting, out kneading his dough. That’s what he does, to stuff his feelings away, kneads the dough. She says that they should both think about this a little more. She leaves and Nan Gil sigh, extremely frustrated. Because he wants what she wants but it can’t happen to keep her and the land safe.

Next morning, Yong Kyu is setting up the outside dumpling stand. A chorus of girls’ voices – I’m not calling them women, because I think they are acting like girls – wishes him good morning. The TV trio are back, with coffee. It looks like one for each flower boy. They smile at him sweetly. He happily welcomes them and calls for Nan Gil.

Nan Gil comes out, carrying their placard sign. He tells Nan Gil to hurry up and come with him. He basically pulls Nan Gil off the deck so they can go talk to the girls. TV Girl 1 (TVG1) – she still hasn’t introduced herself. How is that professional? It’s why they are girls. –  says that they do not leave any room for slack in how they operate. They do not hesitate. TVG2 – the one with the glasses that TVG1 called a dog – says that they move straight ahead until they reach their goal. And they’re carrying ‘coffeesmith’ coffee. This is not the first time I have seen this logo.

So it seems like coffeesmith is good at procuring product placement.

TVG1 nudges TVG3. Smiling, TVG3 asks if she became a writer to do this? She declares that she did! This is her happiness! TVG1 forces a laugh and tells TVG3 that she’ll have to fire her. For over-doing it. TVG1 gives Yong Kyu her coffee. He happily takes it. Nan Gil is looking at the ground, waiting for their spiel to be over. Cupping his hand to his mouth, he says, like Nan Gil’s not going to hear it, that he’s cheering for them. They cheer.

TVG1 nudges TVG3 again. She offers him her coffee. He looks at her like she’s offering him something disgusting. TVG1 says that it’s coffee they personally went and picked out for him to drink, Boss. He hands the coffee to Yong Kyu and uncomfortably rubs his waist where his apron is. Yong Kyu notes that they picked it out themselves. They loudly laugh and TVG1 says that it would be great if all managers across the land, were all like our manager! They laugh again and Yong Kyu laughs too. Why is he so star-struck?

Na Ri comes out of the house, carrying her shovel. She sees them and sighs, annoyed. Nan Gil sees her walking around the back of the house. His face looks like a sad puppy. In the back, Na Ri starts digging where there are a bunch of weeds.

Duk Bong is looking in some books. I wish I spoke Korean so I knew what it said. I used Google Translate and the big one with the legible title says “Land Compensation.” Soon Rye enters. He was looking for her? Without looking up, he says that he wonder why our grandfather gave this land to Shin Jung Im (Oma) at fifteen years old. He tells Soon Rye to please find out about the murky background to this family story.

Soon Rye asks where she's supposed to find information about something that happened in 1975? Who said anything about 1975? Duk Bong smiles at her and marvels. Wow, she knows everything. She even knew it was in 1975. Soon Rye says that she remembers anything that she reads once. Sure. If that information’s hard to find, why did you know it was 1975. Duk Bong says that Soon Rye knows a lot about it because it happened when Oma was 15, and because she was Soon Rye’s close Unni. Isn't that right? What? Ah, we’re getting to the meat of Soon Rye’s beef with Oma.

Soon Rye freezes. Duk Bong stands and grabs his coat. As he’s wearing a heavy wool sweater, he still needs the coat, which he will, of course, not button. He tells her to please search through her memory, if she can't find the information. He taps his right temple for emphasis on the memory part. He walks away and Soon Rye’s face looks like she smelled something sour. In fact, she growls/groans in frustration.

Duk Bong walks down the steps and Yeo Joo greets him with her aegyo. She aegyos at him. He’s surprised. Why is she there this early? I hate her aegyo voice so much. Yeo Joo says that they weren’t selling admission tickets yet, so she told them she was coming in to see him. He tells her to enjoy the show. He starts to walk away – and I love him! – and she calls his name. He stops, wondering what she wants. Super aegyo as she asks if he would like to make a deal with her. He looks at her, wondering what she means.

TVG1 is in the kitchen, telling Joon to do his work gently. Joon’s face is cracking me up! Nan Gil walks up and says “Excuse me.” TVG1 turns around and gives him a big smile. He asks how she’s going to film. I first read it as him asking if she’s ever going to get to it, which would have been funny. TVG1 takes a beat – like she’s trying to figure out what to say, like this is her first time doing this ever – and tells Nan Gil to just work as he normally does. Their camera will come around and shoot around the store. If he gives them just a few of his trade secrets, the guests will come, eat, and upload their opinions. The end.

TVG1 says that total broadcast time is 15 minutes. Don't think about it too hard. Han Yi leans over and tells her that Nan Gil’s not going to do it anyway. Joon tells him to just make the dumplings. He is annoyed. Heh. TVG1 declares that they’re cold dumpling men! They look at her. Cool men who make dumplings! She giggles into her hands. No one else laughs. She nudges Joon and he asks himself why him. TVG1 looks at Nan Gil and he’s not laughing. She says that he must not like jokes.

Nan Gil says that he has one condition. TVG1 is eager to comply. Can they include a story about them trying to find the original owner of Hong Dumplings? Oh, he is smart. Get them to do some of his work for him. Joon looks at Nan Gil, surprised. TVG1 says that it's awesome if there's a story! She asks if this means that the original owner of Hong Dumplings disappear? How should they tell the story? Nan Gil says that she should get in touch with him after she’s gotten a date for filming. Joon says, “Hyung!” Like he’s begging Nan Gil not to put him through that. Nan Gil gives him a look.

She looks at Joon, pleased with herself – like her effort had anything to do with Nan Gil agreeing. She exits the kitchen and tells TVG2 & 3 – who were sitting at the table visiting with Yong Kyu – to contact the office and ask them to have everyone working on the octopus segment to gather there. TVG2 us super excited. Are they her interns or something? She keeps acting like she’s imparting all this wisdom. Yong Kyu can’t believe that Nan Gil agreed.

TVG1 gets on the phone and tells her boss that they’re going with Hong Dumplings today. The other girls are also calling people. TVG2 is saying that they can't have their idols eating wriggly small octopuses on TV. It looks really bad, doesn't it? Idols? Are we in for some cameos? Yong Kyu is stunned. They’re doing it immediately today. Of course. TVG1 tells Yong Kyu that bosses like Nan Gil usually change their minds really easily. So she has to act fast before Nan Gil changes his.

Yong Kyu goes over to Nan Gil and asks if he knew that they were going to be filming today. No answer. Yong Kyu repeats: did Nan Gil know?! Nan Gil walks off without saying anything. Yong Kyu sighs and mutters that Nan Gil is stubborn.

Nan Gil changes his clothes and heads outside. Na Ri is still digging. Someone needs to show her how to use a shovel. She’s using her arms to dig in, rather than her feet. No wonder she hasn’t gotten anywhere. Nan Gil asks what she’s doing. She tells him not to worry about it. He should laugh and chat with the writers so the whole neighborhood can know about it. She’s jealous again. Heh. He asks why she’s digging up dirt? She answers that she told him that she was studying how to farm.

Nan Gil asks if she’s really studying? What is she trying to do by digging up cold dirt? Na Ri stops and looks at him. She declares that you are supposed to turnover frozen soil often and spread fertilizer too. She's going to make it a golden soil. Nan Gil says that it’s his house and his land. Is she really going to do what she wants without talking to him first? Digging, Na Ri asks if Nan Gil discussing things with her now? He’s the one who always hides things and makes decisions on his own. He asks what she just said. She stops and looks him. It seems that he didn't hear her. He’s got some bad hearing.

Na Ri says that she thought about it all night, and she’s on Weasel’s side. The marriage is void! So he can't ever win. It's enough for the words "a love that can't be fulfilled" to be lyrics of the song that Oma sang! That song that is his ringtone for her. Nan Gil looks at her for a moment, not saying anything. He sigh and pulls the shovel out of her hands. He looks at her new blisters and massages her hand. He tells her that you do this on sunny days, when the dirt is thawed out and resting. If she shovels like that right now, the ground hurts too.

He tells her to make sure to wear padded gloves next time. She yanks away her hand and says that a weakling like him should wear gloves. Um, it’s really easy to get blisters using lawn tools without gloves. I speak from experience. Nothing weak about it. She picks the shovel back up and starts digging again. Completely ignoring what he said about it being bad for the soil to do it right now. Nan Gil sighs and looks away, frustrated.

Super aegyo Yeo Joo tells Duk Bong to make a deal with her. Why is he standing there talking to her? Duk Bong asks what there would be for them to make a deal about? She smiles and declares that she’ll push him together with Sunbae Na Ri. He looks away and chuckles. So that’s what her game is. He is so good at sizing people up. Like it’s a secret, she said that she heard that Go Nan Gil is her stepfather. Duk Bong asks “So?” She is totally clueless that he’s sized her up.

Yeo Joo declares that it means that those two will never work out. Duk Bong looks like he’s considering it. She says that Na Ri’s uncle came to the house last night and threw a huge fuss. He nods like he’s considering it. Yeo Joo says that this is his chance. She'll help him. He replies that Miss Yeo Joo and he aren't the type of characters to help someone out. Yeo Joo smiles and says that she’s proposing a win-win situation.

She gets her minx on and says that she’s saying it as his friend who runs into him here and there. I thought he told you that Na Ri was enough friend for him. No matter how much money she earns, she can't make her family's situation better. So she has to marry well. Duk Bong’s not looking at her. He tells her that she’s overly honest. He looks down and studies his nails. Heh. He so has her number. I really hope they writers don’t have him falling for her. I could take it if she falls first and stops being manipulative, maybe not with his family, but with him, but not if he finds her charming and that’s what makes her finally stop, because of his love – gag me.

Yeo Joo says that she’ll push Sunbae Na Ri toward him, and he pushes his friends toward her. Duk Bong looks over at her. They can talk to each other about their worries too. Doesn't that sound good? Duk Bong asks if it’s usually this difficult to ask someone to set up blind dates for her? Heh. He’s totally not falling for it. Maybe his ‘first love’ made him immune to Yeo Joo’s manipulation. That or his family. Yeo Joo smiles and says that it's like that with friends. Not my friends.

Nan Gil has gotten Na Ri some gloves – and himself a colorful scarf. He puts the gloves on her. Because she’s too stubborn to do it herself. He wraps the scarf around her neck. Her face says that she feels bad for being a jerk. He tells her that he decided to do the TV Show. They want to start today. Na Ri replies that everyone in the village (Seulgi-ri) will have something to laugh about. He’ll be able to see them often through the program. Why is she being jealous? She knows he’s not interested in those girls.

Nan Gil protests that he’s doing it to find Abeoji! Na Ri asks why he’s trying to act as her stepfather when he’s looking for her real father? If he goes to court, then she’s on Uncle's side. He’ll never win. He grimaces at her stubbornness. Not that I can necessarily blame her. Then they will be strangers, and they can date, get married, and have kids. Right? Nan Gil looks at her, shocked that she said they were getting married.

So is Yong Kyu. He lets out a little yelp in surprise. He always shows up at the most awkward times. They looks over at him. Na Ri looks at Nan Gil and he rolls his eyes. Yong Kyu tells Na Ri that there's no reason for her to be embarrassed, Daughter. Oh, he means, Sister-in-law. Nan Gil gives him a look, like he can’t believe Yong Kyu just said that. Na Ri is embarrassed. Yong Kyu giggles and tells her that the shovel suits her.

Yong Kyu starts to walk away. Like he’s going to go gossip about it with the boys. Like they’re going to want to listen. He stops and turns around. Boss. The writers said that he should come in. Celebrities are coming. It's making his heart go crazy. He’s getting itchy all over, right down to his feet. Nan Gil sighs and leaves with Yong Kyu. Na Ri mutters that Nan Gil’s really excited. She starts digging again.

Nan Gil stops and sighs. He turns around and goes over to Na Ri. He pushes the shovel away and takes her hand. There's somewhere she needs to go with him. He pulls her along like it’s a wrist grab. She protests, telling him to let go or at least walk a little more slowly. He stops and looks at her. She asks why they’re there. Nan Gil says that he has something to tell her. She asks if he still has something left to say to her. He replies that it’s an old and painful story. Omeoni asked him to bury it as a secret.

Flashback. Nan Gil’s looking at Dada Finance’s demand letters. Oma asks if it’s really bad. Nan Gil doesn’t answer but his face says that it is. And she knows that he knows, since it’s Director’s company and she knows their history. Oma declares that that can't happen. Not to this land. Never. Her voice is emotional. Nan Gil asks that Oma tell him what happened. Oma says that her parents ran an orphanage. A small orphanage near the lake. One night, a fire broke out at the orphanage. Except for her parents, Jung Ram (Weasel), and her, who lived in this house, and Soon Rye who fell asleep while hanging out in her room, everyone died. Oma sighs and puts her face in her hands. This has got to be the reason for Soon Rye’s dislike of Oma.

Oma says that her parents didn't take responsibility for anything, even though they claimed that they were all one family. They abandoned Soon Rye, who was left all alone, and only took Oma and Jung Ram with them to the US. Wow, that had to hurt. But why would she blame Oma for that? Oma was a kid. They said that everyone in the world wouldn't know and would forget it all. Oma protests, her voice breaking that she couldn't forget, and neither could Soon Rye.

Oma shakes her head and says that she has to pay for her parents' sins. She starts to gather up the papers and declares that she has to protect this land. They go out to the land. Oma tells Nan Gil that if you think of death lightly, your life will fall apart. When this forest becomes fully grown she will donate it. Ah, why Nan Gil’s dead set on those trees growing tall. Oma says that she hopes that the numerous people who walk down this road would remember the children, who became stars in the sky too quickly. Aw, that’s a beautiful analogy that got translated out of my Americanized subtitles. Thank you, Viki. Nan Gil smiles and tells Oma that he’ll protect the land. He’ll protect it until that happens. Oma smiles at her good son. They look at the land.

Na Ri comments that this is why Oma came there every day. Why wouldn’t Oma tell Na Ri about it? I don’t understand that logic. Na Ri says that Oma and Soon Rye both must have had a hard time. She understands everything now. She says that she’s a little angry. Oma only told her that she grew up at an orphanage. She had family on my mother's side. Nan Gil says that Omeoni was making atonement to the children who died in her parents' place.

Na Ri replies that Oma still should have told her. she should have known. Exactly right. Placatingly, he says that Oma only told him when she had no other choice because of the land. Nan Gil says that Oma asked him to be sure to keep it a secret. Na Ri says that he should have kept it a secret, then. Why is he telling her? He replies that she knows why he’s telling her.

After a pause, Na Ri sums up: So he’s saying he’s going to protect this place the rest of his life because of Oma? She tells him that it’s just like him. She gets why Oma trusted him so much. She starts walking again. Nan Gil sighs and follows her.

Yeo Joo is riding in Duk Bong’s car. Why is he going along with this? Duk Bong-a! What are you thinking? Are you going along to see how far Yeo Joo will take it? Yeo Joo tells him that first, Sunbae Na Ri has to see them together. Yeah, that’s sure to make Na Ri jealous. Because she doesn’t like Duk Bong that way. Sure to get jealous. Duk Bong chuckles (at how lame she is). He says that he thought that it would be some fresh, new method, but he guesses that it's not. Going along to be amused?

Yeo Joo declares that it’s a test. It's a test to figure out how much interest Sunbae Na Ri has in him. They arrive to see the film crew milling about Hong Dumplings. Inside, it is hectic. TVG1 enters and asks where Nan Gil went? Yong Kyu doesn’t know. Where did the cold dumpling-making men go? Why is everyone disappearing? Should she make the dumplings?! She tells TVG2 (Writer Kim) and TVG3 (Writer Lee) to hurry up and find them before the director comes. TVG1 walks away.

TVG2 whines at Yong Kyu and tells him that he should find everyone for them. Yong Kyu, of course, immediately tries to do it. Spotting Nan Gil outside, he hurries over and tells Nan Gil that he has to come immediately! He pulls Nan Gil away. Na Ri’s left out front with Duk Bong and Yeo Joo.

Yeo Joo, with her aegyo voice on, asks where sunbae is coming back from? Na Ri bows at Duk Bong, looking at little sad, and goes into the house. Not answering Yeo Joo. Guess she’s not jealous. Of Yeo Joo and Duk Bong at least. Yeo Joo tells Duk Bong that their faces say that they’re over.

Na Ri is working on her dirt. She pulls some film over it. Not sure what that’s for. Yeo Joo gives Duk Bong a silent ‘Fighting!’ and encourages him to go over to Na Ri. She leaves. Duk Bong looks at Yeo Joo and then over at Na Ri. He walks over and announces that he’s going to go to Seoul. When is she going? No answer. She keeps digging. Duk Bong picks up a second shovel and starts helping her. He works his way closer to where Na Ri is digging.

♬ Blue, blue parakeets flying in the sky ♬

She notices him and looks up.

♬ pound pound ♬

Duk Bong thinks of Yeo Joo’s advice: Gaze, distance, and contact. No, he is not! Come on Duk Bong! I slap my face into my hand and shake my head. Yeo Joo’s voice says that you have to be discreet with touchy women like Sunbae Na Ri.

Flashback to Robot Museum. Yeo Joo tells him to first, start by looking her in the eyes. Wow, he must be really desperate if he’s taking advice from Yeo Joo. The distance that will make her feel secure is three steps away. She steps closer and says that when he goes one step closer, it'll make her nervous. Nan Gil made her nervous at least 3 steps away, just looking at her. She steps really close to Duk Bong and says that when he goes another step closer, then it feels like he’s touching her with his eyes. Duk Bong is watching Yeo Joo as she talks. I am so disappointed that he’s listening to her.

Yeo Joo grabs his arm and tells him to grab her naturally. Anywhere. Is she doing this to covertly hit on Duk Bong? He looks at her hand on his arm. She smiles up and him and is taken aback by his intense gaze.

♬ lost, lost chopstick sleeping in the drawer ♬

Yeo Joo is now in Na Ri’s room, thinking about this conversation. She shakes her head and fans herself. Because she found him really hot. Heh. She tells herself that there's no way that he'll become hers. Get a grip. She starts patting on her powder and tells herself not to give up. She sighs a little sad. The only way you’d get him is by being like Na Ri – honest and not manipulative.

Duk Bong steps closer to Na Ri, all the while holding an intense gaze. Unfortunately, it’s making his eyes look a bit buggy, so it’s hysterical. She looks at him. He steps closer and Na Ri takes a small step back. He remembers the direction to touch her naturally. He reaches out, saying that she has something in her hair, but she bats his hand away. Only Nan Gil’s allowed to do that. Duk Bong is a little shocked. They say nothing. He steps backward and puts his hands behind his back. Like they’re the offenders.

Na Ri says that Weasel has said that he's going to file a lawsuit for a marriage annulment. This is news to Duk Bong – but I think he’s glad that she’s breaking the silence and the awkwardness. He gives an ‘ah’ and says that Weasel has a right to sue Nan Gil. She asks what’s up with his reaction. Duk Bong was the one always saying they should sue him. He shrugs and grins sheepishly. At least he knows what they were ‘fighting’ about.

Duk Bong asks what Hong Dumplings Boss had to say. She asks why he’s asking when he knows Nan Gil’s personality. Nan Gil said that he'd win in court. He smiles a little. Because she’s absolutely right. He asks why she quit her job? Is she going to live there farming forever? Na Ri is ignoring the question. What should she do?

Na Ri sighs and says that she never guessed that she’d be talking about it with him. She tells him not to worry too much about it. He tells her that taking her anger out on the ground doesn't help her at all. He’ll tell her what she should do, so come with him to Seoul right now.

And for some reason, Na Ri agrees. Yeo Joo is waiting for them out front. Na Ri looks glum. Duk Bong opens the front passenger-side door. Na Ri tells Yeo Joo to sit in front. Yeo Joo acts like she’s surprised that Na Ri’s coming. Duk Bong is definitely surprised that Na Ri’s refusing to sit in front with him. Na Ri replies that she’s going to ride in the back, so Yeo Joo should get in the front. Aw, she’s not going to do anything that Nan Gil might read as her not being interested. She tells Duk Bong to hold on a minute. She heads for the restaurant. Duk Bong sighs and looks over at Yeo Joo. Yeo Joo shrugs.

Nan Gil is sitting with the girls. TVG1 asks if he has any showy techniques? He answers that he doesn’t. Heh. She’s fine with that. She reaches over and grabs Nan Gil’s sleeve, like she’s going to give him some pointers on being showing. He grabs his sleeve and pulls, like he doesn’t want her touching him. Nothing to make Na Ri jealous, of course. Heh. TVG1 tells the girls to focus on his muscles popping out while he kneads. TVG2 loves the idea and TVG3 gets a little embarrassed.

Na Ri walks in on their planning. Nan Gil looks over at her – looking a little like he’s begging her not to be mad. She’s pouting again. She gives a slight head motion for him to come talk to her. He nods that he understands. He tells the girls that he’s going to go change clothes. TVG1 wants him to change into summer clothes. Something that emphasizes his muscles. The girls titter.

In Nan Gil’s office/room, Na Ri hands him Oma’s phone. He asks why she’s giving it back to him. She replies that she feels like he won't send her text messages or call her anymore. He looks at the phone sadly. She says that if she has something to tell him, she’ll call him through Oma’s phone. Wow, she’s actually being a little mean right now. He’s going to take this as her shutting him down.

Na Ri announces that she’s going to Seoul. She tells him that he must have a lot of worries. She apologizes for being so hard on him. They both need some time to think. She gives him a smile and tells him to do well on the show. She walks out and Na Ri just stands there.

Yeo Joo and Duk Bong are standing there, waiting for Na Ri. They’re not looking at each other, purposely. Her because she's discovered that she’s honestly found him attractive and him because he doesn’t want to encourage any interest on her part. He looks over at her and says that he has something to ask her. What happened between her and Na Ri? She thinks a moment and smiles a small smile – almost like she’s proud of herself. No aegyo as she says that she stole Na Ri's boyfriend that Na Ri'd dated for nine years. Duk Bong asks why Yeo Joo did that. She asks herself why.

Flashback. Na Ri is working with the other hoobaes. One of them makes a comment that there couldn't be a tackier birthday party than Yeo Joo's. Hoobae2 tells Na Ri that it’s a good thing she didn't go. She's not Do Yeo Joo but a Heo (Pretend) Yeo Joo. Na Ri says that people pretend because they want to be seen well and liked by others, so please understand. Yeo Joo is starving for affection. Since they partied with her, quit gossiping and go back to work. Yeo Joo had heard everything and is ticked.

In the present, Yeo Joo says that Sunbae thought she was taking her side, but Sunbae actually made her feel worse than the women who were talking about her. From then on, she acknowledged Sunbae Na Ri, was conscious of her, competed with her, and was jealous of her. She chuckles and says that her emotions were kind of complicated. Duk Bong asks if she’s saying that's the reason she stole her Sunbae’s boyfriend of nine years.

Yeo Joo admits that she was curious about what kind of man Sunbae Na Ri's boyfriend was that she would date him for nine years. As that went on, well... She’s the only bad wench. She laughs and says that she’s actually wondering if it's really okay for her to go this far. Duk Bong marvels: Wow. It's usually hard for a person to see someone after something like that. Isn't it hard for Na Ri to see her again?

Yeo Joo replies that Sunbae Na Ri definitely isn't normal. As Na Ri walks toward them, Duk Bong says that nothing about Na Ri is normal. Nothing. And Yeo Joo looks a little sad that there’s no way that Duk Bong’s ever going to say that about her. Na Ri walks over to the car and Duk Bong opens the front passenger door again. She looks at him. He jerks his head, telling her to get in. She walks over and gets in the back. Duk Bong makes a face, annoyed,  as he shuts the door. Yeo Joo makes a face because he didn’t hold the door open for her. Heh.

The boys – and Nan Gil – hard at work making dumplings. Henry’s song starts playing. We haven’t heard that one in a long time.

♬ What up girl ♬

MC tells camera that this is how it looks when Hong dumplings are being made. They bring in their special guests of the day. They say that they love dumplings so much that they eat them every day. Be Big Bang! MC says that it’s the beautiful girl group, Gu9udan (Gugudan)! Three of the 9-girl group come out, clapping.

Gu9udan is an actual group.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gugudan
And it appears that they’ve done several variety shows like ‘Running Man’ and ‘What Shall We Eat Today?’
https://alwaysdreaminghigh.com/2016/06/14/gugudan-member-profiles/
https://www.nowkpop.com/2016/06/17/gu9udan-profile/
I can’t tell which girls are cameo-ing.

♬ Have you lived without knowing the smell ♬

They cutely greet the viewers in unison. With hand motions and everything. MC says that he heard their group was almost called ‘Nine Dumplings.’ I think it might be Nayoung, Mimi and Hana. Hard to tell. One of the girls says that their motto is 'Live fully like the inside of a dumpling'. So weird. Their whole team loves dumplings. Who doesn’t love mandoo? Cute banter as the boys and Nan Gil work. The boys are starting to get distracted.

MC asks Mimi – I got one of them right! – what they have planned for the show. This is definitely better than the girls having to eat octopus. They plan on expressing what Hong Dumplings tastes like in a lively way! Cutesy hand motions as they call for mandoo. They are really cute. I’ll have to check out their group. Yong Kyu brings out the dumplings and looks right into the camera. Director calls ‘cut’ and yells at Yong Kyu for looking into the camera.

Na Ri looks quite pitiful as she rides in the car. Yeo Joo notices Duk Bong watching Na Ri through the rearview mirror. I was thinking he could do that when she said she was going to be sitting in back. Duk Bong suggests they go to one of those rest stops that Na Ri likes. That he hates. Yeo Joo cheerfully asks if they should eat some udon. Yes, please! Udon is awesome. Na Ri says that Duk Bong doesn't like rest stops.

Yeo Joo looks over at Duk Bong and ‘quietly’ asks why he’s suggesting they go if he doesn't like them? Dur. She finally gets it. She leans in and tells him that Sunbae Na Ri doesn't like men who are too clean-cut. Good thinking. Na Ri looks over at her, able to hear the whole thing. Heh. Yeo Joo tells him to try liking rest stops. Is she purposefully trying to sabotage things? Na Ri rolls her eyes.

Na Ri asks Yeo Joo if she knows what seat she’s sitting in. It's the seat where you monitor the driver so that he doesn't fall asleep. Yeo Joo leans over and tells Duk Bong to says that he’s not one who would fall sleep in Hong Na Ri's presence.' She tells him to do it quickly. Na Ri sighs, too drained to deal with them. She tells them that she’s going to keep quiet, so they can just talk. Heh.

Time to sample the dumplings. The girls start eating. And eating. And not saying anything but eating. MC prods them for comments. They say: The insides are really packed full. The dumpling wrap is for sure made with love and good will. It's rather a pity to eat them by ourselves. Is it possible to get some to go too? MC suggests that Nayoung show how these dumplings taste by her facial expressions. Yes, I called another one! She gives some aegyo at how good they are.

TVG1 directs them to have Nayoung read the special story about Hong Dumplings. Nayoung reads:
It has been upwards of twenty years since Hong Dumplings opened its doors in Seulgi-ri, as long as I have been alive. We are looking for Hong Sung Kyu, the owner of Hong Dumplings, who completely disappeared one day.

Over at Dada Finance, Lawyer is telling Weasel that if Na Ri and he have proof, then Weasel win at the trial. Weasel tries to say that his niece has a formidable personality. Director glares over at him. Weasel gives a scared look and shuts up. He says that he understands.

Wan Shik enters and says that Go Nan Gil's lawyer is the third son of Green Land's head chairman. His name is Kwon Duk Bong. He's not currently working as a lawyer, so it took a while to find him. Director considers this new wrinkle. So does Wan Shik, seeing Director’s reaction.

Phone call. Na Ri hurries over to the phone. Probably hoping that it’s Nan Gil. It’s Weasel. She sighs sadly. Weasel asks if Na Ri’s going to be his witness. She is, right? He's just making sure one last time. She asks where he is. He asks her where she thinks he is. All but admitting it! He asks her please to let him come home when the trial is over, too. Na Ri doesn’t respond but Weasel acts like she’s agreed. He tells her that everything will be solved then. Na Ri still doesn’t say anything.

Duk Bong has gone over to see Nan Gil. They meet outside by Duk Bong’s car. Duk Bong says that he found out that Nan Gil got a date for the trial. Is Nan Gil not going to ask him for help? He asks why he would hire a lawyer who's more interested in the land? It's a losing proposition from the start. A point. Duk Bong asks if Nan Gil really thinks that. He tells Hong Dumplings Boss that he only focuses on his own feelings and view his (Duk Bong’s) feelings for Na Ri too lightly. Nan Gil looks away.

Duk Bong tells Nan Gil to be nervous. This is his first time being so cautious around a woman and approaching her slowly because he’s scared something might go wrong. Nan Gil replies that he doesn’t look for the weakness in someone's heart carelessly, meaning that he doesn’t underestimate Duk Bong’s feelings. He’s going to go back inside. Duk Bong says that they should win in court first. Win in court, and then just stay as stepfather and daughter. He says that he’s going to Seoul tomorrow to ask Na Ri to be their witness. Nan Gil goes inside.

Nan Gil slumps into a chair in the dining room. Joon and Han Yi approach him. Joon says that he looked into the hospital that Nan Gil talked about. They do have Hong Sung Kyu's death certificate. Han Yi looks like he’s watching for Yong Kyu. Nan Gil sighs. Han Yi tells Joon to forget it and not to say anymore. Nan Gil says that he’ll have to ask them in person.

Yong Kyu comes bounding in wearing a Université de Nohant sweatshirt. The A in Nohant is covered. I thought it might be a college, considering the hoodie, but it’s a clothing designer in Korea:
https://www.facebook.com/nohantkorea/
He’s bouncing from the cool day they just had. They aren’t going home? He notices their somber faces. Something is definitely wrong. Are they lonely? Do they feel a void? He sings: Fill it like a dumpling. And giggles. Nan Gil just looks at him. He stops, bows his apology and leaves. He should stay and spy on them. Nan Gil loudly sighs.

Coffeesmith café in Seoul. Nice little add there for iced americano. Duk Bong has met Na Ri there. He asks if she’s still not done thinking about whether she’ll date him or not? Na Ri replies that she never said that she would think about it. He replies that her memory is good, and she’s got a strong will. But he’s thought about it, and feels like she may have some sort of misunderstanding about him. She asks what she’s misunderstanding.

Duk Bong says that he was trying to seem confident, but he could have just seemed like a jerk. She chuckles. He was trying to speak truthfully, but it may have sounded sarcastic to her. He lives his life working hard in my his way, but it could look like he was just playing around because he has good parents. He looks at her and says that he asked her out because he really likes her, but he must have looked like an insincere guy who just threw the words out there. Na Ri clears her throat and says that she didn't misunderstand him. He says that it’s a relief. So she should think about dating him again one more time. Na Ri looks away to avoid his eye contact.

Duk Bong declares that the topic is done. He came as Go Nan Gil's legal representative today. Go Nan Gil said that he also wanted her to be his witness. She asks if Nan Gil really asked. A little hopeful. Duk Bong admits that Nan Gil didn't say that, but from what he can see, Nan Gil wanted to. Na Ri sags. Duk Bong declares that the side that she wants to win could win. Because her testimony is the most important one, all she has to do is choose the side that she’ll stand on.

Na Ri sighs – because she doesn’t want to choose between what she wants and what Nan Gil has said he wants – and asks what will happen if she doesn't stand on either side? Duk Bong replies that it's highly possible that Client Go Nan Gil will win. He'll protect the land, but the two of them will be left in a father-daughter relationship. Na Ri sighs.

Nan Gil is with Joon and Han Yi. In another coat. This is like his 6th one. It’s the first time we’ve seen the boys in street clothes, those cuties! Flashback to Nan Gil and Wan Shik in the car. Wan Shik says that they can't give the death certificate to anyone but family. Handing Nan Gil a picture, he says that this woman took out Hong Sung Kyu's death certificate. Han Yi been looking at the phone on his map and says that it’s up ahead.

They enter a seamstress shop. She stops smiling when she sees who it is. she asks if they’re there to buy clothes. Nan Gil asks if there’s someone named Kim Jung Sook there. She admits that it’s her.
He asks about Abeoji. She clears her throat, uncomfortably and says her canned script: He passed away a long time ago. Why is Nan Gil looking for him? Joon asks when Abeoji died. Jung Sook wonders if it’s been about five years. He died right after remarrying. Nan Gil sighs. The boys look at Nan Gil, because that’s not the answer they wanted.

Han Yi asks for a picture of Hong Sung Kyu. Smart boy. Jung Sook sputters, who has a dead person's picture these days? I do. Nan Gil gives a small bow and leaves. The boys bow and follow. She watches them go. Outside, Nan Gil stops, discouraged. He thinks of things that Na Ri had said. He looks like he wants to cry. Joon comes up and tells Nan Gil that the accident isn't his fault. Nan Gil sighs sadly and starts walking again. Joon sighs and follows. He looks like he wants to cry. Han Yi follows, too.

That night at the house, Nan Gil sits in his room, alone, crying. He’s thinking about the accident.

♬ Right now, ♬

He tries to wipe away his tears, but they keep coming. He covers his eyes with his hand. And I totally can relate to that.

♬ I'm having one of those times ♬

Na Ri calls. Nan Gil can’t bring himself to answer.

♬ Because I miss you ♬
♬ I feel like I'll go crazy♬

He answers. She says that it’s her. He tries to wipe away his tears so she doesn’t know he’s crying. Na Ri says that it’s nice to be able to call that phone.

♬ and I want to run to you like crazy ♬

He grunts an ‘Yeah.’

♬ I can't forget ♬

She says that tomorrow might be her last flight. She promised to take her last plane ride with Oma.

♬ I can't forget your warmth ♬

She asks Nan Gil to do it in Oma’s place. He grunts an ‘okay.’ She smiles and says that her last flight will be his first flight. She tells him that she already made a reservation so that he can't refuse. Nan Gil’s face says this is killing him. Na Ri proposes they get as far away from here as they can before the trial. Nan Gil doesn’t say anything, because then she’ll know he’s crying.

♬ Sometimes, when you ♬

His silence is unsettling.

♬ are having a hard time, are exhausted, or need a place to lean on ♬

Finally he gets out, “Okay.”

♬ Use me ♬

He masks it well enough that she doesn’t hear it in his voice. Na Ri smiles because he’s agreed to do it.

♬ If you call me, then wherever it is ♬

She thanks him and Nan Gil grabs his eye to keep the tears in.

♬ Even to the ends of the earth, I will surely ♬
♬ This is our foolish love ♬
♬ But our love still lives on ♬

He stops himself. Because there’s no point. I’ve been there, too. He gets up and goes over to his safe. He pulls out a thumb drive and looks at it. It looks like it’s the only thing in the safe. Meaningful, tense violins play. Nan Gil’s face is now a mask. That does not bode well.

Airport. Nan Gil in *another* jacket. Nan Gil looks anxious as he walks through the airport. He’s blowing breaths to stay calm. He pulls out his medicine and starts to take one, but thinks of what Na Ri said: Her last flight and his first flight. He breathes and puts the medicine back. He shoves it back in his backpack.

Duk Shim is not happy to hear that Nan Gil has decided to travel somewhere. Yong Kyu doesn’t know where. Boss awkwardly said he’s going on a two day, one night trip, and then left. Duk Shim wants to know who he went with. Yong Kyu sucks air at her and tells part-timer Duk Shim, not to look into it too deeply. Yong Kyu says that he’s happy about it. Boss has never taken a day off. So in the name of showing their affection for him in a cool way, they should think that he can go on a trip like this at least once. They should work hard with all our might even though the boss isn't here! Duk Shim starts to cry. You have got to get over your crush, girl. Especially because I think Yong Kyu would like you if you ever game him half the attention you give Nan Gil.

Nan Gil has boarded the plane. He finds his seat – it’s in an exit row. He sits and puts his bag beside him and fastens his seatbelt. You’re going to have to stow that in an overhead compartment. And that girl behind you is not going to be able to sit there with her backpack sitting out like that at her feet, either. As he does, a stewardess bows to him and greets him. It’s Na Ri.

‘Slowly, Little by Little’ starts to play.
♬ Slowly, little by little, love you ♬

She acts like he’s any passenger and tells him that the passengers who are seated by the emergency exit must agree to assist the stewardesses…

♬ I’ll take a step to you, love you ♬

…in their efforts to facilitate speedy exit of the passengers from the plane in the event of an emergency. He nods enthusiastically, big grin on his face.

♬ Closer ♬
♬ Never thought about it before ♬

As per the staff instructions, please refrain from opening the exit door, or placing objects that could obstruct the path to the exit. Another enthusiastic nod. She thanks him for his cooperation and gives him a deep bow. Nan Gil bows back.

♬ You and I, the two of us ♬
♬ Forever, the two of us ♬

She gives him an extra smile as she walks away and he just sits there and grins – his big old goofy grin that I love.

♬ I want to live here, it's just a small wish ♬

That’s all we get to see of their flight. I feel a little jipped. They could have had just a little more.

♬  You don't know, do you? You still don't know, do you? ♬

Nan Gil waits for Na Ri outside the airport.

♬ You can't say such fearless imaginary words ♬
♬ Once my heart. My heart ♬

She arrives and asks how his first flight was. He admits that it was a bit scary and asks how she does it everyday. She tells him that the Legendary Go Nan Gil shouldn't be scared of airplanes.

♬ You will know when you look.. ♬

They start walking and Na Ri declares that they should do everything for themselves for the next twenty eight hours. Smiles.

They spotlight a really cool looking cable-stayed bridge. I think it’ s Incheon Bridge.
http://www.incheonbridge.com/?mtype=ENG
Wikipedia reports that it’s the 9th longest cable-stayed bridge in the world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incheondaegyo
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_longest_cable-stayed_bridge_spans#Completed_cable-stayed_bridges
It connects Incheon with Yeongjong Island. If it is Incheon Bridge, that was a very short plane ride.

They enjoy the view as they cross the bridge.

♬ You're the only one for me ♬
♬ Cooly, more cooly. Much more cooly ♬

It looks like Duk Bong is working. He’s wearing a sweater and a coat inside at his desk. I’m telling you, people in Korea run colder than people in the States. They’re dressed like that and I’m wearing a shirt with no sweater and no jacket. He gets a phone call. It’s Yeo Joo. Of course it is. He considers whether he should answer, sighs and takes the call. He doesn’t say anything, though. Yeo Joo says that she’s about to go on a blind date. She’s not sure if she should let him know this or not. Why are you telling him about your blind date?

Duk Bong snaps at her to keep it short. He’s busy. She actually looks conflicted. She tells him that Na Ri is on her last flight. He drops his head and doesn’t say anything. When she asks if he’s there, he replies that he’s listening. She adds that Na Ri went with Nan Gil on the flight. How does she know that?! Seriously. He doesn’t even stay on the phone long enough to hear her add that it’s for probably for one night and two days. He throws the phone down on his desk and just sits there. Yeo Joo sighs and says that that man probably looks like his whole world is falling apart right now. She’s actually caring about how someone else feels? First she looks conflicted at telling him bad news, that might actually make him more available, and then she worries how he’s taking the news.

Nan Gil and Na Ri are walking by the beach. So pretty. Na Ri remarks that it doesn't look like either  of them have been doing well. Of course, regular people who are living normally wouldn't have a reason to be awaiting a trial. Nan Gil sighs. He says that he couldn't say this earlier, but thank you for getting him on the first flight of his life. She smiles.

They look at the water. She tells him not to think about anything. If he misses out on this beauty because his head is too tangled, it'll leave a scar. She starts walking and he hurries to walk beside her. He says that Eskimos have a lot of words in their language for snow. He has a lot of words that mean Hong Na Ri to me. He always looked at her. He thought about her every day. He kills me the sweet things he says.

Na Ri tells him to tell her the words that mean Hong Na Ri. He answers:
•    The woman who walks on like nothing happened even after being shot by a pellet gun, Hong Na Ri.
•    One who walks and reads at the same time, Hong Na Ri.
•    One who runs after the sounds of the bells of a tofu merchant, Hong Na Ri.
•    One who sprinkles the seeds of dandelion, Hong Na Ri
•    And flies around with butterflies, Hong Na Ri.
She’s surprised he saw her dancing with butterflies, too. He adds that he saw her talking to trees, too. She replies that all kids do that. He replies that it was when she was a college student. She drank during the day time.

Na Ri asks if he stole looks at her while she was in college. Nan Gil says that she cursed at the trees. He imitates her drunken rant: "Move! Why are you always here?!" She shoves him and says that she never said that. He shoves her hand away. She tries again and is deflected. He picks her up, giggling, and threatens to dump her into the water.

♬ Slightly longer hair, ♬
♬ looks like you've lost weight. ♬
♬ My concern for you sounds like a nagging to you ♬

Very cute scene of them playing by the water.

♬ I tease you saying you're not my type ♬
♬ But you're the only one I see ♬

Slow-mo of their big smiles and laughing as Nan Gil thinks:
•    One who falls down looking up at the clouds, Hong Na Ri.
•    One who lost her family home, Hong Na Ri.
•    Hong Na Ri who shovels the frozen ground.

♬ Don't be more beautiful... ♬

They walk, holding hands. He thinks: The most beautiful person in the world, Hong Na Ri.

♬ I only see you, I want to hug you ♬

This is such a cute scene, I am smiling, too. Which means that something bad is going to happen. Any time this show gives us one of these awesome moments, it follows it up with something gut-wrenching.

♬ Will you find out how I feel one day? ♬
♬ Fool, don't you know? ♬

Yeo Joo is on her date. She modestly pushes her hair behind an ear and looks at her date. Boy, does he look uncomfortable. She turns on the aegyo voice and says that she hasn’t done a lot of blind dating, so she’s a little awkward. Date replies that she doesn't look like she does blind dates often. He stops himself for being too honest. He asks what the deal is. There's something going on with this, isn't there?

Date asks what Yeo Joo’s relationship with Duk Bong is. She replies that Duk Bong is her closest sunbae's boyfriend. Pointing his finger for emphasis, Date says that he knew it. This is a scheme. A sham. Yeo Joo looks a little uncomfortable. Date declares that Duk Bong doesn't date. In her normal voice, Yeo Joo asks why Duk Bong doesn’t date. Date takes that as an admission. Look at that. There is something. Yeo Joo doesn't know anything about Duk Bong! Yeo Joo fights to keep her pleasant face on.

Date declares that, on top of that, Yeo Joo’s body, voice, and her looks match perfectly. He hits himself in the head and mutters that the truth came popping out again. He’s gone crazy. Yeo Joo keeps that smile on her face but there’s a hardness that betrays her irritation ask she repeats her question: Why doesn't Duk Bong date?

Date declares that now that he looks at Yeo Joo, she does look like her. It's giving him goose bumps! Yeo Joo’s face says that she can’t believe this guy won’t answer. She repeats her question yet again:
Who? Who does she look like? Duk Shim already told you: Duk Bong’s first love who stabbed him in the back. Watch Yeo Joo be her unknown twin, with Yeo Joo being adopted or something.

Na Ri and Nan Gil are at an outdoor café. He brings her a wrap for her legs. They sit. She says that she remembers cursing at trees. She’s going to have to kill him, he knows her too well. Nan Gil smiles and says that they say that people who love someone else without any hope know that person the best. He loved her without any hope for a long time, so he does know her pretty well. Ah, that unrequited love.

Na Ri asks why he loved her like that – instead of acting on it.  He replies that it’s because he’s too dirty. Because his heart will hurt less like that. How he can describe himself like that and still smile, that hurts. Nan Gil tells her that he doesn’t wish for anything from her. He doesn't want anything either. He likes things how they are now. Always so willing to just give up in her case.

Na Ri replies that she doesn't feel like that. She's going to be Uncle's witness. I thought this was a trip where they were supposed to be getting away from the trial. Na Ri says that she wants to have a normal man-woman relationship where they date, fall in love, and plan their wedding. Again with the marriage talk. He isn’t as freaked this second time. Na Ri says that today's trip is their beginning. Leaning to put her head on his shoulder, she says that they can do everything today. Everything? Nan Gil’s face says that he’s worried.

Dada Finance. Police arrive. They’ve got their blue boxes for evidence. Oooo. Is this because of that drive that Nan Gil was looking at? Lawyer is waiting for them and declares himself. Detective says that, based on the evidence of illegal loans, they have a search warrant. He holds it up and tells his men to get started. They head in and take every scrap of paper out of Director’s office. Not that he would keep it there, the incriminating stuff.

CCTV of their search. Lawyer enters. Director and Wan Shik are watching the CCTV. Lawyer reports that the prosecution office came with evidence of illegal loans from two years ago. Director asks how Lawyer is going to take care of it? He replies that they can stop it at level 8 or 9. Not sure what that means. My other subs translate this as “I can end it with a fine.” Tried to research this on the internet and didn’t find an answer.

Wan Shik says that Nan Gil's done this to protest the lawsuit. Why would you say that? Director replies that Nan Gil probably thought that his dad has gotten old because he left Nan Gil alone and didn't do anything. Director doesn’t know why Nan Gil thinks that he’ll become more lenient as he gets older. Wan Shik hides it but I think he looks uncomfortable.

Robot Museum. Duk Shim scurries into Duk Bong’s room. He’s reading in bed and is very surprised. She scurries up to stand by his bed. She blurts out that they said that Nan Gil and Na Ri went on a trip together! And I see a slight continuity error in how he’s holding the book, but I’m just going to ignore it. Duk Bong marvels: Wow, this is a really annoying situation. It's because people are like this that you have to pull out all the stops. He tells her that he’ll knock on her door from now on, so she needs to knock before she comes in from now on, too. Got it?

Duk Shim pouts at him. He asks if she’s not going to answer him?! She has to say ‘yes.’ He puts down his book and looks at her. This is her first time coming in his room. She must really like the Hong Dumplings Boss. She even came to her Oppa because she’s hurt. She comments on how he’s being all unaffected. He doesn't really like Hong Na Ri, does he? He gives her a small smile and tells her that she'll find this out when she becomes an adult, but there are times when you realize that things are at an end. You leave then. You don't call something a trip, then...

Duk Bong stops. His indifferent mask slips a little. He picks up his book and asks himself what he’s saying to a little kid. He looks over at her and tells her to get out. He doesn’t move. He notices she’s still not there and tells her to get out. She gives him a look and leaves.

Nan Gil and Na Ri are chilling on the floor of their room. Nice deck and pool. She asks if they’re just going to hold hands and sleep? Nan Gil asks why they would hold hands. There are two bedrooms. She answers by flopping down on the floor beside him. He tells her that if you lays down right after you eats, you’ll turn into a cow. She finishes the sentence with his: you'll turn into a cow. Another thing Oma must have always said. Nan Gil chuckles.

Na Ri says that Oma raised two cow-like kids. Nan Gil replies that she raised more than two. Everyone at the orphanage thought of her as their mother. Na Ri sits up and sighs. She wants to see mom's flowery smile. Nan Gil looks at her and tells her not to avoid the subject. They should talk. Na Ri says that she said everything she had to say earlier. Nan Gil says that he has something to say. He’s serious. She gives him a shrug to go ahead.

Nan Gil says that if they go to court, she’s going to end up hearing everything about him. She asks if she shouldn’t go, then? He tells her to make sure she comes. Hear it all. So you can know what he means by dirty. So he won’t hope anymore or expect anything. He looks down. There’s a pause. He really didn’t want to say this. He’s been to prison before. Na Ri isn’t horrified. Her face more asks for him to tell her. He glances over at her and then looks down again.

Flashback. There’s been a lot of flashbacks today which have revealed a lot of meat. Oma visits Nan Gil in prison. It’s obvious that it’s hard for her to see him in there. She tries not to cry. She smiles and tells him that he looks good. He smiles and says that he feels at ease because he can go back home when he get out of there. Oma tells he definitely needs to come. He’s learning about dumplings, right? He gives a little smile and says that, honestly, he’s better at making dumplings than Oma is. Oma laughs, doubting that. He laughs with a big smile on his face.

Their visiting time is up. Oma gets up to leave and *Wan Shik* is waiting for her at the door. That is not by orders from Director. Director would never be that thoughtful or kind. She turns around to look and give her last goodbye. He gives her a smile, so she won’t feel bad. Again, they’re making me want to cry. Nan Gil says that he was happy because of Omeoni, but she cried a lot because of him. Oma gives him a smile back but it’s obvious she’s holding back her tears. Nan Gil says that he feels like everything started because of him. That's why he wanted to protect Omeoni’s land, no matter what.

Back in the present, Na Ri nods. She says she understands how he feels. He doesn't have to tell her any more. Nan Gil sighs and says that he’s sorry for telling her to come back to the house that day. She looks at him, but he’s not looking at her. He’s sorry for confessing that he loves her. He’s sorry for telling her to wait for him. Na Ri tells him to stop it. Don't say any more. She gets up and leaves the room. Nan Gil looks up to where she exited.

Na Ri goes out to look at the sea. He comes and finds her. Not turning to look at him, she says that they walked together and looked at the sea together, but their feelings were really different. Nan Gil doesn’t say anything. She asks him what he wants her to do. He replies, after a beat, that no matter what, he believes that Hong Na Ri will make a wise choice. Na Ri asks him if he knows why she wanted to find Abeoji. Nan Gil thinks of the seamstress telling him that Abeoji died. He died right after remarrying. If he remarried, wouldn’t that mean that Oma wouldn’t be responsible for his debts, his new wife would be?

Na Ri says that it’s because Abeoji would definitely prove that she and Nan Gil have no familial relationship. Na Ri says that she forgot about Abeoji for a long time. Does it make sense that she needs Abeoji because of the person that she loves? She turns to look at him and says that this is her state right now. She can't be wise. Nan Gil says that he’ll make the decision. That land is Omeoni’s land, so it's her land now. They shouldn’t let anyone take it away.

♬ At some point, unbelievably, ♬

She starts to walk away. He calls her name. She stops but doesn’t turn around.

♬ With tears streaming down my face ♬
♬ I run to you ♬

He says, “I love you.” Like it’s futile, pointless, like he’s lost. Her eyes begin to tear up. And so do mine.

♬ As the first snow falls, ♬

She turns around and looks at him.

♬ you come to me again ♬
♬ Just like you always have ♬

He adds that even if he can't say this for the rest of his life... he sighs, gives her a small smile and says “I love you.”

♬ Will I be able to forget you as time goes on? ♬

They look at each other.

♬ Like the seasons ♬
♬ that pass me by? ♬

Court. Weasel sits with Lawyer2 and Nan Gil sits with Duk Bong. Wan Shik, Bruiser and several of the junior bruisers are in the audience. Weasel is not in a suit, but Nan Gil is. Lawyer tells the judge that if the defendant Go Nan Gil and Shin Jung Im are not husband and wife, then the person that may be the biggest victim of this fraud, and that can not acknowledge this marriage, is here in court. Nan Gil looks uncomfortable. Duk Bong does not. Lawyer is standing up and says that they request Shin Jung Im's biological daughter, Hong Na Ri, to stand as witness.

Na Ri enters the courtroom. And her shoes are really loud. She doesn’t look at Weasel or Nan Gil as she sits. She looks over at Nan Gil. Their eyes meet for a moment and then he looks away. Lawyer asks her is she’d ever heard about the defendant, Go Nan Gil, from her mother? Na Ri answers, “no.” Did her mother ever tell her about the transfer of the dumpling restaurant and the land? Another no. Lawyer asks if she ever heard about the debt of her father, Hong Sung Kyu? Another no. Her voice sounds rather chipper. What is she planning? Does she think that this marriage is invalid?

Na Ri looks over at Nan Gil. His eyes are red as he looks at her. She remembers what he told her: that even if he can't say these words for the rest of his life, he loves her. She thinks that if it's going to be a love where they can't say the words ‘I love you,’ then they should stop here.

Lawyer repeats the question. Does she think that this marriage is invalid? And of course the episode ends before we see her answer. Arg! And there’s no preview for next week. Arg!

Thoughts

I’ve getting really sick of this show giving us such awesome moments between them and then gut wrenching ones! And watching Nan Gil cry. That was torture! I have no idea what Na Ri is going to answer. I have no idea what she means when she says that they should stop there. If she answers that she does think it’s invalid, it destroys everything that Nan Gil’s worked for. It would pave the way for them to be able to be together, but it would ultimately crush Nan Gil. So it’s a choice between getting a chance at her happiness, or letting Nan Gil have a chance at his. And as I think about it, I think she’s going to say that she thinks the marriage is valid. Nan Gil’s altruism has been so evident. He never asks her for anything, except this one thing. And I can’t see Na Ri being selfish and not supporting him the way he has always supported her. He has always put her needs before his own desires and I can’t see her doing that to him.

This episode flushed out why protecting the land is so important to him. Not only is it for Na Ri, but it is for Oma, too. He wants to finish what was Oma’s greatest burden: paying penance for her parents’ sins. And he can’t dishonor Oma by giving that up for selfish reasons. As much as it crushes him, and it is crushing him to be so close to everything he ever wanted and having to give it up, he’s going to do it because it’s the right thing to do.

I honestly don’t think that Nan Gil gave the Prosecutor’s Office all of the evidence he has, because what he gave them is two years old. The stick he gave Director had recent stuff on it. It was like a shot across Director’s bow to say that he will fight if he has to. And everything he’s done up to now says that he won’t quit, even if it kills him. Wan Shik knows that’s true.

And that Wan Shik is quite the enigma. He brought Oma to visit Nan Gil. Again, that is something a brother would do. Maybe we’ll get a flashback showing them as kids, forging this brotherly bond. We still don’t know *what* exactly Nan Gil did that makes Wan Shik want to wet himself, but it’s serious. And he wasn’t talking about Wan Shik’s side business, either. I really hope that Wan Shik makes it out of this alive, because I think Director is going to figure out that Wan Shik’s loyalties really lie with Nan Gil, despite of his actions to the opposite.

I have to say that I love Duk Bong but I’m a little disappointed that he listened the Yeo Joo at all. Well, Na Ri did too, but he doesn’t act like he hates that he did it. Maybe he is and we just don’t see it, because he is one of those people that you can’t read most of the time. I really wonder about what he thinks when he looks at Yeo Joo. If she looks so much like his first love, why is it so easy to ignore her? and be unmoved by her? Or is his indifference the same mask that he wears with Duk Shim?

And even though I have dreaded the thought of Yeo Joo ending up with Duk Bong, if it means that she stops with the aegyo manipulations and just gets real, I don’t have a problem with it. He’s already shown that he totally sees through her games, so he wouldn’t be susceptible to them if they were in a relationship, so he wouldn’t end up doing stupid stuff like Dong Jin did. But I will vomit if she stays the same obnoxious person. She’s already shown that she’s actually considering his feelings, which she hasn’t shown that she does for anyone but herself. And because she thinks he’s ungettable, she’s not playing her usual games with him, so she’s going to be as much herself as she’ll be with anyone. And she doesn’t worry about him finding out about her family drama, because he already knows. So all those annoying things that she does to manipulate people, she’s not going to do with him because they won’t work. Which means that I will actually be able to like her.

I do love how he has no patience for any of her games – what? I’m busy working – maybe his first love played them all, so he’s immune from recovering from that. Does he think she looks like his first love, too? And are they going to throw in a long-lost twin? I can’t see them doing that. It’s not that melo.

Writers, I will be okay with it if Duk Bong doesn’t become an idiot and Yeo Joo stops being a manipulative minx. I mean, I like the idea of her being able to give it to his family – she I think she actually beats any of them at the manipulations – especially his stepmother and his father. And his older brothers. I like the idea of her totally sticking up for Duk Bong because she isn’t going to be manipulated either. But I only like it if she becomes a decent person first.

I had a fleeting wonder about Duk Shim and Duk Bong’s relationship if they weren’t really related. But I quickly dismissed that, because they really do treat each other like siblings and them evolving into something else is too ‘Flowers in the Attic’ type of yucky for me. I’m predicting that she turns out not really to be related to him, but he still treats her like his sister anyway. They both like squabbling – he was funny when he came in and had a problem with her *not* screaming at him. Heh.

I have to say, this episode continues my love for Na Ri. She didn’t doubt Nan Gil for a second, when Weasel threw some really fast balls at her. She does things to reassure him because she knows that he’s willing, despite what he wants, to let her go, if it means that she’ll be happy and safe. She keeps those goggles on, even when she’s ticked that he’s not taking the easy way so they can get on with planning their wedding!!! She won’t play the games – and Nan Gil won’t either, which is why I love them both.

And she totally didn’t recoil in horror when Nan Gil admitted about being in prison. It was obviously hard for him to tell her, but she didn’t react at all or treat him any differently. She constantly shows him that his past is not who he is and he doesn’t have to be ashamed of it. I think if she hears about the guy who fell off the roof being her father, it might shake her momentarily, but her love and faith in Nan Gil will come through it. His pathetic pleading with Wan Shik to help him not go back to what he was shows just how much he hates that part of his life, that part of himself, and how he’s never going to give himself an excuse to be like that. It shows what a good guy he is and how much he’s fighting against ever being like that again.

Nan Gil’s crying in the dark was so gut wrenching. His utter despair. I have been there. Props to Kim Young Kwang for knocking that scene out of the park! It was so visceral. And real. And gut wrenching. He was so hoping to find out the truth from the Seamstress and she told him the lie. Instead of pressuring her to reveal the truth, he just gave up.

Na Ri needs to go to the woman and have Seamstress give her father a message. If it was me, I would tell Seamstress that I didn’t believe her and she can give Abeoji a message. Just pretend if you’re saying he’s dead and go and tell his grave. Tell Abeoji that I was never angry with him or hated him for running away, like Oma did. I understood why he did it. But he needs to fix this because it’s destroying the man I love’s life and my life. He needs to fix it because if he doesn’t… I will hate him for the rest of his life. That would be my basic message.

Abeoji has to reveal himself and fix this, he just has to. Why is Nan Gil the only unselfish man in Na Ri’s life? (Well, there’s Duk Bong, but he’s too emotionally guarded for Na Ri to ever consider him. So he’s not really in her life except on the periphery.) Her Abeoji, Weasel. Both selfish. Both only care about themselves. They need a miracle: Abeoji putting Na Ri’s needs above his own.

Oh, I didn’t say anything about the reveal about why Soon Rye hates Oma so much – they were sisters as children and after the fire, Soon Rye was abandoned. She’s old enough to separate the kid her from the adult her, because that wasn’t Oma’s fault at all, but she isn’t. I don’t see that one getting resolved at all, but that’s okay. She’s not particularly obnoxious to Na Ri, so I’ll give her her bitterness. It does speak to her affinity for Nan Gil, too – she was an orphan just like he was. I had a momentary thought that her abandonment was why Nan Gil as an orphan, but 1975 was 41 years ago and he’s only 27. So, no. But I think this reveal is the key to why Duk Bong’s Harabeoji gave Oma the land when she was 15. In 1975. He gave her the land, the good land, because he wanted to make up for the fire, too, and knew that Oma would make good on her word, even if her parents didn’t. OR Harabeoji and/or his company is at fault for the fire and Oma blackmailed him to get the land so she could do the right thing. I can actually see Oma doing that, because it’s the right thing to do, even if it might not look right – like stealing Na Ri’s marriage poem. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

I can’t believe Weasel, but when I think I about it, I don’t know why he surprises me. I also am dreading what Director’s going to do in retaliation for this shot across his bow. He’s not a nice man and said he’d retaliate. That’s going to be scary.

About Joon and Han Yi. I really think there’s more to their story. Could Joon be a former inmate that Nan Gil met in prison? (I say Joon because Han Yi just looks a little too innocent, like Joon’s his hyung and that’s why he backs him up.) They *know* what Nan Gil went through, is going through and Joon made a point to tell Nan Gil that the accident wasn’t his fault. If they were in prison together, I can see Nan Gil protecting Joon from getting the mess kicked out of him – because Nan Gil doesn’t like the little guy being picked on – and Joon giving him his loyalty and protecting him when he has his episodes. That’s a totally plausible reason for why they’re both so loyal to him, because he saved Joon’s life in prison and gave Joon a job after he got out.
