Bong Pal is walking down the street, a frown on his very bruised face. He stops to look at a group of grade schoolers loading into a bus. Seeing a mother with her son makes him think of his own mother.
Bong Pal as a boy, waving to his Oma, who is across the street. Oma’s gesturing at Bong Pal and a ghostly shape appears behind her. It doesn’t just shove her into an on-coming car, it throws her into it. So much for starting this episode with something funny. Bong Pal remembers Oma’s eyes as we hear the heart monitor indicate that she’s dead.
Bong Pal crying at Oma’s funeral. A creepy ghost apparating in front of him and grinning evilly as he slides away in fear. Why didn’t Oma come and see him if he can see ghosts? Poor Bong Pal. At first I thought this ghost was Oma, but it’s not. Just creepy. He hides under a table and cries.
Bong Pal at school. Teacher asks why he doesn't ever play with his friends. He’s always playing by himself in the corner. She coaxes him to come play outside. They play the Korean form of Red Light, Green Light, where he hides his face and says that the moogoonghwa flowers have bloomed! But everything goes bad as he turns around and the ghost from Oma’s funeral appears. I really can’t tell if it’s Oma or not. It just seems strange that she would look so menacing to him, if it was his Oma.
Bong Pal drops to his knees and rubs his hands together, crying that he was wrong! He’s sorry, ajumma! Please forgive him! He’s sorry! Since he’s calling the ghost ‘ajumma,’ I don’t think it’s his mother. Ghost smiles as he cries. His classmates stare at him in shock. From then on, Bong Pal stays inside during recess.
Switch to the present. We see where we left off last time: Hyun Ji is hanging out on a rooftop. She spots Bong Pal. She wonders what he’s been up to all night. Why is he just coming in? Bong Pal is just trudging along. . Hyun Ji gives him a ‘ya!’ and when he looks in his direction, she starts to complain about him making her wait for such a long time. He asks why she’s there and how she found him. She jokes about being a ghost. And makes me chuckle again. He wants to know why she’s there. She says that she just needs to confirm one thing, so if he could just stay still for a minute. She closes her eyes, braces herself and floats toward him.
As she floats closer, Bong Pal’s eyes get big. And that flashback explains why he’s such a loner, why he doesn’t like to be around people. She about hits his lips when the record scratches as he pulls her backward by the hair on the back of her head. He asks what she’s doing. She tries to get that kiss by grabbing his neck and pulling, but Bong Pal resists and pops her on the forehead for good measure. Heh.
Bong Pal asks how she dares get fresh with him! She protests that she needs to check something, okay?! He laughs and tells her to give him a break. And what's with the disrespectful language? She’s obviously way younger than him. She smiles and thanks for thinking she’s young, but she’s been dead for five years, so technically she’s older than he is. He almost takes that back but tells her to forget it. Why is he even bothering to talk to her? He sighs that he’s tired and tells her to go away. He walks away and she stands there and mutters about how annoying he is.
At his door, he realizes that he doesn’t have his keys. He tries the door and it’s locked. The door opens and it’s Hyun Ji, who gestures a ‘ta-da’ at him. He asks her who said she could come in? She asks if he can't just say "thank you"? In good English, he says “Thank you very much,” and tells her to please leave. He walks around her into his apartment and closes the door.
Inside, he sighs at the mess that Myung Chul left. Hyun Ji pops in beside him. She proceeds to pester him and get in his way as he cleans his apartment. She is quite cute. He’s doing a good job of resisting the cuteness. She gives him lots and lots of aegyo, which he rolls his eyes at. As he finishes cleaning, she tells him that he’s actually quite tidier than he looks. He tells her to go, please go.
Hyun Ji whines, telling him to do her this one favor. He should just do it to get rid of her. Of course, she was *his* first kiss, too, so I’m sure the thought of it is quite flustering. It's not hard to do. All he has to do is just close his eyes. Unpersuaded he tells her to forget it. She’s not the first ghost to nag and plead like that.
She suddenly points behind him what a sound of surprise. He turns to look and she swoops in for another kiss… only to be stopped by his hand to her forehead. She sighs, frustrated. He tells her that he doesn't know what she’s up to, but look for someone else. Should he introduce her to someone? She begs and aegyos some more. Bong Pal refuses, firmly. He tells her that she’s pretty shameless for a ghost. She didn't even pay him his 10 million won.
Hyun Ji mutters that she can't believe he’s upset over a measly 10 million won. He can’t believe she called 10 million won ‘measly.’ He starts to hunt for the charm he has that exorcises ghosts. He ‘finds’ it in a drawer and waves it at her. She, of course, scrams. Not that it was a real exorcising talisman. Clever. He tosses it into the trash on his way out.
As he leaves his apartment, Hyun Ji pops in behind him. He sighs with annoyance.
Chun Sang and In Rang are still in their room. I guess they haven’t gotten kicked out yet. In Rang’s going through their footage. He finds the part he filmed in the elevator – complete with their screams. Heh. Bong Pal punches the ghost and Chun Sang declares it! Wow! He was right, wasn't he? That guy just hit a ghost, right? That's a ghost right there!
Chun Sang declares that Bong Pal can really see ghosts. He threw a solid punch right to that ghost's face. Wow, their junior is no joke! In Rang points out that they saw the ghost, too. Chun Sang rolls his eyes and explains that that was a silver code. And Korean for silver code is ‘silver code.’ When a person is in the grips of terror, they can see the ghost. The moment where that ghost and you connect is called the silver code.
Chun Sang says that their junior isn't seeing ghosts with the silver code. He’s staring right at it. That's why he can fight against the ghosts! Chun Sang sighs and says that he really wants to recruit Bong Pal. In Rang is able to find Bong Pal’s dossier in about 3 seconds. Chun Sang smiles.
Bong Pal is eating his lunch by himself in the park. He's looking for someone. He sighs. Close by, the vet arrives with the little dog he rescued and all the girls coo over them. Hyun Ji sighs and says that Vet is so cool. Now that is what a man is supposed to look like. Bong Pal chews and it’s obvious that he’s doing everything not to punch her. He turns to glare at her. She asks him if he’s a squid. He should get a dog, too. He looks sad and pathetic eating alone.
Bong Pal mutters, “Dog my butt.” She glares at him and tells him he’s rude. He smiles and says that it’s just how he is. Bong Pal picks up a rolled eggs and Hyun Ji moans that she loves them. She looks at him, pleading for him to give it to her. He tells her to go and buy some for himself. She keeps him from eating as she reminds him that she’s a ghost. How is she supposed to buy it? She can't! Which I think he knows. Heh.
Ghosts can only eat food that is given to them. Hasn't he done ancestral rites before? He says, “Oh,” like this is news. She tells him that since he now knows, he should give her a piece of that egg and rice ball. He acts like he’s going to give her one, but stuffs it in his mouth instead. He groans over how good it is.
Chun Sang and In Rang find him and tell him it’s sad that he’s eating alone again. They introduce themselves: He’s a junior physical education major and his name is Choi Chun Sang. Chun Sang holds out his hand and Bong Pal doesn’t take it. Chun Sang feels super awkward but continues. And this is... In Rang says that he’s a junior computer science major and my name is Kim In Rang. Bong Pal gives them an “And?” throwing Chun Sang’s rehearsed plan into confusion.
Chun Sang and In Rang laugh in unison. Chun Sang asks if they didn't overcome that terror the other day, calling Bong Pal his brother? Getting dramatic – and I bet Kang Ki Young loves playing this role – they gesture as Chun Sang declares that they saw his courageous battle against that ghost! So... they stick their hands out, like you do when a team is in a huddle. Chun Sang helps Bong Pal put his hand in – which cracks me up – How about they do this together? Let's destroy this darkness together!
Bong Pal answers, “I don't want to.” Chun Sang clenches his jaw in frustration. Bong Pal puts down his plate of food and leaves. What’s with the littering? Hyun Ji glares after him. She’s about to eat the rolled eggs when Chun Sang takes it and eats it. And shares half with In Rang. They mutter that Bong Pal is stubborn… and tough.
Bong Pal heads to class, the Vet’s class. Vet enters, to a chorus of moans from the girls. Vet says that his attendance list has 22 students, but it seems that the waitlisted ones are here, too. He warns them that his class isn’t going to be fun. The smiling girls giggle. He introduces himself, says that due to personal reasons, Professor Lee Ji Sung will no longer teach this class. Therefore, he will be taking over for the rest of the semester. He’s Joo Hye Sung, a veterinary professor at this school. It's nice to meet them all. The girls all clap and cheer. Why am I suspicious of this guy? He seems perfectly normal. But I just am. Something about him strikes me wrong.
The auditing girls tell him he’s cool and ask about his hand. He says that it’s a bit embarrassing. They titter. He says they should start class. The enrolled students might be distracted so he asks the rest of them to leave please. Loud groans. Most of the room – which includes guys – files out. The two girls that thought he was really cool, they stay.
Vet – I’m not going to bother calling him Hye Sung. Vet’s easier to remember. Besides, this guy is fishy – calls roll and Bong Pal has eyes for a pretty girl named Im Seo Yun. Hyun Ji pops in and gives him a hard time for liking the girl. Oh, she's pretty. He likes girls like Im Seo Yun, huh? All slender and willowy. He whispers at her to please go! Does she have nowhere to go? She says she doesn’t. He sighs and groans that she’s seriously driving him crazy!
Bong Pal says it loud enough that it gets other people’s, including Vet’s, attention. Vet asks him if there’s a problem and Bong Pal apologizes. Bong Pal looks in Seo Yun’s direction. She gives him a smile but he’s still embarrassed. He glares at Hyun Ji but can’t do anything.
Chun Sang is looking at their website’s rankings and groans because they’re dropping. He moans over Sadako’s negative posts – that guy gave them a hard time during their live broadcast, too. There’s knock on the door. It’s the housing agency. They try to pretend that they’re not at home, but Guy isn’t fooled. He tells them they need to vacate the room by next week. Guy leaves.
In Rang asks what they’re going to do. Chun Sang says it’s obvious. They have to use any means necessary to recruit Park Bong Pal. In Rang points out how anti-social Bong Pal is. Chun Sang sees this as a bonus: A lone ranger in this lonely world. He's definitely the person we're looking for. They’re going to stick to Bong Pal like glue no matter what and tell him he's our savior. They will wear him down until Bong Pal agrees, Then money and fame will fall from the skies. And girls, lots of girls. They stop giggling when the power gets turns off.
End of Vet’s class. He asks who the TA is and it’s Seo Yun. Vet thinks it’s too much for just one person and asks for another volunteer. And Bong Pal is shamelessly staring at Seo Yun. Hyun Ji raises Bong Pal’s hand for him. Bong Pal can’t get out of it.
After class is over, Seo Yun approaches him and asks if he’s junior in our major, right? Sophmore economics major? He stutters a ‘yes.’ When she notes that they really don’t know each other, Bong Pal awkwardly says that he doesn't really attend the major events. Hyun Ji rolls her eyes and mutters that he’s a liar. Seo Yun introduces herself. Bong Pal gives her a deep bow. She tells him that she looks forward to working with him and leaves. He sighs as she goes. Hyun Ji just has to tell him that this is all because of her. He gives her a glare and leaves. She runs after him.
Vet is sitting, feeding the chick-magnet dog. He tells it that it eats so well. Seo Yun finds him. She has the class file from the previous professor. He says that he’ll return it to the old professor – sure he will – and when she notices the dog, he cutely tells the dog that it’s famous for being evil. Seo Yun laughs. Seo Yun asks if Vet is going to keep him. Vet says he's just keeping him until the previous owner retrieves him. Vet gets a phone call. He’s late for another seminar. He asks if she won’t mind taking care of Dog until he’s done. She, of course, agrees because Dog is cute.
Bong Pal is walking down the street. A guy is talking on his handphone. No, he didn't make it. He says he’s going to head to the hospital. His shoulders feel so stiff. He looks in pain, despite trying to stretch everything. Bong Pal looks over and it’s Kyung Ja. Poor guy. Bong Pal doesn’t do anything.
Hanging onto her beau, Kyung Ja looks up and spots Vet. She’s immediately in love and starts chasing his leaving taxi.
Bong Pal is working out. Hyun Ji arrives. He groans. She asks why he’s working so hard when it’s crazy hot. That ghost yesterday must've really gotten to him. He tells her to shut up and leave! She says that it’s better to work out together. Bong Pal asks who would work out with her. We now see that she’s sitting on Bong Pal’s shoulders as he’s doing his push ups. He tells her to quit playing and get off.
She tells him that he’s pretty weak for a guy. That's why he’s always getting beaten up. Besides, she’s so light. Another groan from Bong Pal. She asks if he’s hungry. She’s hungry. They should go down and order some fried chicken! She starts jumping on his back, chanting ‘chicken!’ This starts a game of chase, with Bong Pal trying to hit her with a pipe as she runs around the rooftop. She’s laughing the whole time.
Nighttime. Groaning cat. Guy is sleeping while his TV hisses with no signal. Drunk guy is sleeping – plenty of empty Soju bottles. There’s scratching on his wardrobe and then it’s door opens. A ghostly hand emerges, clawing its way down the chest. It/she crawls her way over to the drunk guy. Wow, she’s creepy. She whispers something in his ear. It’s annoying enough that man wakes up… to look into her ghostly blue eyes. He screams hideously.
Switch to outside his room, the door shaking from the violence inside.
Next morning, neighborhood ajummas are talking about the guy who died. Myung Chul arrives. They say that the guy died because of the ghost that lives there. It was that girl, Eun Shil, who came from the coffee shop a long time ago. They discovered her dead body in the closet. That wretched husband of hers beat her to death. And ever since, people have been dying there! Even her husband. So why is she still around? Or maybe it’s the husband. That other ghost first looked like a girl, too.
Myung Chul gets pegged with some rice by the Manager when he arrives at the inn. She knows who he is and asks what took him so long! She hurries Myung Chul inside. He comments on the place’s energy. He walks over to the room where it happened and Manager is surprised. They say he’s old news... Myung Chul glares at her. She says that he’s very courageous.
Manager leaves it to him. He dramatically begins. He feels a menacing energy. He feels a woman's energy. There's a story, too. Her name is... Eun Shil? Manager is stunned. And I roll my eyes. Myung Chul you need to stop eating meat and be ashamed at what you’re doing. Myung Chul grunts and then declares that it’s a simple case. He brandishes his sword and whistles.
Suddenly, something pulls him into the room, so strongly that his sword flies out of his hand. Screams from Myung Chul as he tries to get out. He yells for Manager to call a shaman! He gets pulled back inside. Lots of yells.
Vet arrives at Vet hospital. He’s brought Dog. His nurses smile about the dog, but when he’s gone to change for a surgery, they complain about how he’s turning the place into a shelter rather than a vet clinic. And Dog becomes the Doggie in the Window.
In a dark office, Vet changes for his surgery. He takes off his shirt and we see his back. There’s a large scar in between his shoulder blades. Creepy music. A closer look at the scar. Reminds me of an alien or something. Close-up of Vet’s face and he definitely doesn’t look nice now. I knew there was something off about him!
Bong Pal heading to school. Hyun Ji following him and harassing him. Bumping him in class until he gives her a glare. Messing with him as he studies. Her begging for his food. Riding on the bus. She’s pointing out things. He pulls out his headphones so she sulks.
Nighttime. She asks him if he could make kimchi stew instead of bean paste stew? Chopping vegetables, he says that he has a knife in his hand, so be quiet. She aegyos for kimchi stew and rolled eggs, please? He asks if she can’t please go away. Can't she go home and whine there? Why him? She sadly goes and sinks into a kitchen chair. She sighs and says that she told him she has nowhere to go. She doesn't remember her home or her Oma. She doesn’t know why she died, either. Bong Pal shots chopping.
Hyun Ji says that it’s the reason why she’s been stealing food from memorial services for others. He looks at her ask she asks if he knows how sad it is to do so? This one time, she got bitten by a dog at this house. She looks up at him with sad eyes and asks if he doesn’t feel bad for her? He fakes a smile and asks if she’s changed her strategy. He doesn't feel bad for her at all. She gives him a glare.
Myung Chul bangs on the door. He tells her that now she really needs to go. Myung Chul may be a useless monk now, but he used to be really good. Bong Pal’s not sure what Myung Chul might do to her. He goes and opens the door. Hyun Ji pops out.
Bong Pal tells Myung Chul that he thought Myung Chul would be away for a few more days. Myung Chul gives him a present: Johnsonville brats – Yes, Johnsonville, America’s No. 1 sausage!.
http://www.johnsonville.com/lines/brats.html
Bong Pal notices Myung Chul’s face and asks what happened. Myung Chul does say, but adds that he may have to stay with Bong Pal for a few more days. Suddenly Myung Chul freezes. He looks around the kitchen and says that he’s sensing this strange energy here. He wanders around the apartment – and Bong Pal looks nervous. Could he not dislike Hyun Ji as much as he protests that he does? Myung Chul gets distracted by the food. Hyun Ji is, of course, outside looking in at the food.
As they eat, Bong Pal asks about Myung Chul’s beaten up face. Myung Chul wants him to stop exorcising ghosts. Bong Pal asks for a loan, then. About 90 million. There’s a pause as Myung Chul stares at him before Myung Chul says they should just eat.
Later, Bong Pal looks up and Hyun Ji hand motions at him, asking if she can have some of it, too. Bong Pal sighs and gets up from the table. When Myung Chul asks, he says that he’s going to grill some more sausage. Myung Chul says that they already have enough. Bong Pal replies that it’s not for Myung Chul but for a stray cat that’s around. Hyun Ji is so happy about the food she doesn’t even notice she’s just been called a stray cat.
Myung Chul asks what kind of stray cat comes up to the fourth floor? Looking straight at Hyun Ji he says that it’s this wicked cat. She gives him a face. As he starts to prepare it, she whispers that he should make a lot. A lot. Bong Pal actually slightly smiles.
Evening at vet clinic. Nurses are leaving. Vet says that he’ll finish up in there. He’s working on a poster for Dog. Dog is such a cute Pomeranian. Seo Yun happens to walk by and see Dog. She spots Vet and greets him. Small talk between them. Vet requests that she not share where he works. She laughs and agrees.
Bong Pal leaves the food out for Hyun Ji. She sneaks in and tiptoes past Myung Chul. She pops into Bong Pal’s room. He's curled up and pressed against the wall of his room. She wonders why he sleeps like that. She spots pictures on his dresser from when he was a kid and Oma was still alive. They look like a very happy family. Hyun Ji wonders why Bong Pal lives alone, then. She looks at the stuff on his desk. She mutters about him being a cheapskate and this must be why he doesn’t give her a chance. Then she realizes this is her chance, since he’s asleep. I didn’t think about it either, Hyun Ji.
She sneaks over to his bed, prepares herself. That's not lips. That's blood sausage. Blood sausage. She leans over to kiss him when Myung Chul screams himself awake. (He goes back asleep just as quickly.) When she turns back around, Bong Pal is awake. He is not happy. What was that? What did she just do to him? She asks what he means. He lunges at her and the chase is on. She gets a head start since she can run through the door.
During the chase, she walks across Myung Chul’s belly, waking him. She pops away. When Myung Chul asks, Bong Pal says it was the stray cat. Bong Pal goes back to bed. Myung Chul mutters that the cat must have a lot of karma.
Next morning, Myung Chul is giving himself some first aid. He looks at his phone and mutters about someone not checking his messages. Bong Pal emerges from the bathroom. Myung Chul asks about Dad’s letter. Did he read it? Bong Pal says that he threw it away. Myung Chul can’t believe he did that. Isn’t he curious what his dad is up to and where? Bong Pal isn’t.
Myung Chul goes outside to look for the letter. Is it that letter that he said was a talisman? Apartment ajumma comes out and yells at him for trying to steal a box. She accuses him of being a bum and he says that he works and lives in Unit 402. Ajumma says that he’s lying. No one lives in Unit 402. It progresses to her pushing him and his sitting there in pain. They start to argue again.
Bong Pal comes out and see them. He also doesn’t see Hyun Ji. He wonders if she left. He sounds a little disappointed. At school, he runs across Seo Yun. Nice small talk which leads to him being in a good mood when he gets to his microeconomics class. He drops his pen and Hyun Ji picks it up for him. She notes that he's a in a good mood. He mutters that he was, until he saw her. Sure, Bong Pal, sure.
Hyun Ji says that she’s happy to see him. He tells her that it's good that she’s happy. As they carry on their conversation, Chun Sang and In Rang’s heads pop up from behind the desks. Chun Sang tells In Rang that Bong Pal’s started to scare him now. Heh. He's talking to someone, right? In Rang agrees that Bong Pal’s talking to a ghost.
After class, he gets a phone call. It’s a call for a job. He tells her not to follow him. She is gong to anyway. And so are our ghostchasers. Bong Pal yells at Hyun Ji not to follow him! The boys act like they’re minding their own business. They get spotted anyway. Bong Pal tells Hyun Ji he’s begging her not to follow him. She suggests that he does her a favor first. He tells her to forget he said anything. He walks off with her following. Chun Sang and In Rang have goosebumps.
Myung Chul is doing his laundry and muttering about Bong Pal not fixing his washing machine. Myung Chul wonders where his sword went to. Did Bong Pal take it? Then he remembers that he left it at the haunted hotel… Which is exactly where Bong Pal is going. Chun Sang and In Rang takes their sedatives before they follow him.
Ajumma is a little shocked at how young Bong Pal is. Hyun Ji tells him he needs to dress more professionally. He wants to say something, but Ajumma is looking at him. Bong Pal assures Ajumma that he can. She worries that he’s going to run off with the deposit like the monk did the day before. Bong Pal assures her that he’s nothing like those con artists. Heh. He’ll only get paid once the job is done.
Ajumma points out the room and scurries away. Hyun Ji gets distracted by something. Chun Sang and In Rang start a live broadcast as they follow Bong Pal. He goes inside and looks around for the ghost. Hyun Ji finds a spot with black smoke. In the room, the lights flash. It affects the boys’ computer. Hyun Ji picks up a knife with black smoke emanating from it. Rattling from the wardrobe. Bong Pal opens it and nothing’s there. He turns around and a hand grabs him and pulls him inside. The boys jump.
In the closet, Bong Pal winces. A girl’s voice tells him go now. Run away now! Hurry. And this is Eun Shil. She’s not the ghost that’s killing people. I bet she’s being terrorized by the ghost that is. Could it be her dead husband? Flashback of him beating her, punching her, shoving her in the closet. There’s a scream from Hyun Ji. Bong Pal leaves the closet and it is the rat-fink dead husband. He had Hyun Ji by the throat but throws her into a corner when Bong Pal appears. Bong Pal is not happy with Rat Fink hurting Hyun Ji and the fight commences. Eun Shil doesn’t move as she relives her death.
Myung Chul has arrived at the hotel. He thinks its much creepier. When there’s a crash, he decides to come back tomorrow.
Bong Pal and Rat Fink crash through a door. The boys are filming him fighting with a ghost, even though they can’t see it. It’s really obvious when Rat Fink lifts him off the ground by his throat and then throws him into a table. Boys start getting comments about the Oscar-worthy performance. Chun Sang tells them not to say this is a show. They’re actually filming a ghost now. This is a live broadcast, so don't interrupt them. They’re scared to death now.
Rat Fink lifts Bong Pal up so that he’s dangling in the air. Really obvious that something’s doing it, as Bong Pal’s legs are kicking furiously. Chun Sang pulls the door to their closet shut and chugs the Xanex. Hyun Ji enters the room, where Rat Fink is punching Bong Pal repeatedly in the gut. She tells Rat Fink that he’s dead. She kicks Rat Fink away and asks if Bong Pal’s okay. He is. Is she? She is. They smile at each other and go after Rat Fink.
Which is pretty easy for them, because they work as a team. Hyun Ji spots his weak spot, the place he got stabbed. With that knife she found. She tells at Bong Pal to attack Rat Fink’s side. Bong Pal hits it twice and the ghost is gone. They give each other high-fives. They look over and Eun Shil is standing in the doorway. Hyun Ji’s going to attack her, too, but Bong Pal stops her. Eun Shil smiles at them and bows deeply and is finally allowed to move on.
After she’s gone, Bong Pal says that she’d been trapped there because of that jerk earlier. Hyun Ji tells him that he did well. He knocked down an evil ghost and sent her away to a good place. He tries not to smile even when she grins at him. He tells her they should go. And he spots Myung Chul’s sword.
Bong Pal and Hyun Ji head to his rooftop. He asks how she knew the weakness of the ghosts so well. She can see it? She asks if she wants her to tell him how to do it. He does. She smiles and says that she doesn’t want to. Bong Pal sighs. He starts to walk away but then stops and asks her why she keeps following him around. She doesn’t happen to like him, does she? That’s a pretty big smile there, Bong Pal. She quickly says, “No way.”
He clears his throat. A little disappointed? Then she’s trying to drain his energy? More adamant ‘No way.’ Then why does she keep following him around like a dog? She says that she doesn’t have any memories from her past. He remembers her mentioning that. She says she can’t remember why she died, where her home was, who her parents were. But for the first time after five years, she got this glimpse of memories. When they…
Bong Pal is slow and doesn’t get that she’s talking about their kiss. She obliquely explains that ‘it’ helped her to remember something. That's why she’s trying to do it again... Bong Pal is still being clueless. I can’t tell if he is, or just acting like it. She doesn’t want to say it and tells him to forget it. He chuckles, walks forward and kisses her. Spinning camera and song plays. And the episode ends. Of course it does.
Thoughts
Rules Pertaining to Ghosts:- They can only eat what is given to them
- They aren't restricted to the place they died
- What a ghost first looks like, doesn't mean that that's why they realy are
- Malevolent ghosts are vulnerable in the spot which caused their death
- They can interact with the physical world - Hyun Ji picking up the pen and the knife, Rat Fink being able to kill people
- Once someone's unresolved business is complete, they can move on
- Who someone is in life carries forward and is magnified in death
This episode started out with a doozy - watching Bong Pal's mother be murdered. I was expecting something to happen, like the ghost shoving her in front of a car, but it didn't do that. It picked her up and threw her into the car. Which leaves us with unanswered questions, which I'm sure will be answered at some point:
- Who was the ghost that killed her and why? I'm wondering if it's possibly the ghost that started to haunt him, but I'm not sure. Why didn't Bong Pal see his mother's ghost at the funeral? I can't imagine that, with the way she died, that she didn't have some unfinished business that would keep her around.
- Could Bong Pal's mother see ghosts, too? Was this the reason she was targeted?
- Did Bong Pal inherit his gift from his father? If Bong Pal's father also can see ghosts, was his mother killed as retribution for something his father did? And is guilt and fear what brought their relationship to the point that it is at?
- Who was the ghost that first started hounding Bong Pal at the funeral? Why does she want him to be sad and alone? Has he seen her since he's able to get rid of ghosts? I don't think the ghost that started haunting him was his mother, because he called her ajumma, so is she?
I love that they are a great TEAM. And if you think about it, both of them have been wandering pretty aimlessly, without any real place to call home. Yes, Bong Pal has his apartment, but I think he'd refer to it as where he lives, rather than his home. The only person Hyun Ji seems to ever interact with besides Bong Pal is Kyung Ja, and Kyung Ja is obsessed with boys. So, finding someone that she connects with, that's pretty meaningful.
I didn't laugh quite as much as I did in the first episode, but it's still a funny show. Chun Sang and In Rang provided the comedy relief and I am so glad that they are there, because we need some cowardly lions when we're off to see the wizard. I keep asking myself why they have a ghost club when they're terrified of ghosts, and how do they think it will attract girls? How long before they're hanging out with Bong Pal instead of just following him?
I'm wondering what the story is behind Vet/Hye Sung. At least my feeling was right that there was something off about him. I have this feeling that he can see ghosts, too. But I also wonder, what's his deal with the dog? Could it be that he's possessed? Why is he so affectionate towards the dog, to the point of advertising for its owner? What does that huge scar on his back mean? Did he kill the professor whose class he took over? Seo Yun did say that she wasn't able to find the guy and all Vet said was that he left for personal reasons. Why does Vet want to be teaching this class? What is his end game? And why is he so swoony to all the girls?
