She Was Pretty Episode 7 Recap

Silent car ride. Both of them are uncomfortable. Because Sung Joon is starting to like her and thinks that he shouldn’t since she’s not the real Hye Jin. She keeps trying to strike up some sort of conversation and Sung Joon shuts it down. She starts to sing – and has a nice voice – and, sounding a bit irritated, Sung Joon asks if they’re going on an excursion. Hye Jin stops singing and shakes her head ‘no.’ He says that he has a lot on his mind so they should go quietly. She agrees but then her stomach loudly growls. As Sung Joon grimaces, she protests that she’s trying to be quiet but it's doing it on its own!

Hye Jin wonders what Sung Joon’s problem is. Why is he back to Siberia mode (acting cold)? Why did he give me the onion then? More growling and Hye Jin coughs to cover the sound.

Back at The Most, Shin Hyuk holds up a huge fake spider in Joo Young’s face and tries to get her to freak out. Dead-pan, she asks what he wants her to do about it. He is bored because Hye Jin is not there to torment. Off-kilter, he mutters that she should do nothing. Poong Ho walks up and he tries to scare Poong Ho. Poong Ho’s only reaction is to hit Shin Hyuk several times on the head with his scratching stick. As they discuss when Shin Hyuk is going to grow up, he rolls back to his desk and moans that Jackson's reaction is unparalleled. He sighs and says her name again.

Sung Joon and Hye Jin stop at a restaurant. She deeply breathes in the air. He tells her to stop inhaling air that won't fill her up and go eat. Hye Jin starts to order the wild vegetable bibimbap but Sung Joon cuts her off and orders 2 portions of the special beef tenderloin. Hye Jin looks at the price: 60,000 Won. She asks if it’s too expensive. He asks if she’s complaining, since he’s paying for it anyway.

The waitress – who looks and sounds exactly like Ra Ra but with different hair and clothes – say that they have to eat yukhoe (Korean-style raw beef). Why? Because they have their own farm and they will fart out very fresh farts! Hye Jin smiles and, not looking up from his menu, Sung Joon orders the yukhoe, too.

Hye Jin worries about the cost. Still not looking at her, he says that he’s not asking her to pay so they should just eat. He said he’ll pay. He will.

Back at the office, Poong Ho leaves something on Sung Joon’s desk and notices that Sung Joon left his wallet behind. Ooops. Poong Ho decides that the others will pay and then wonders if it wasn’t an accident, but on purpose. He's smart.

Waitress eagerly cooks for them and helps herself to some of the meat. She splatters some of the juice and tells them they need to wear an apron. Sung Joon puts one on, but Hye Jin doesn’t care. She does care if her ID gets splattered, though. Sung Joon asks why she’s wearing it on a business trip. She declares that it’s her #1 treasure. She gets energized from just wearing it. She looks up at Sung Joon in his apron and laughs. He says that he’s curious as to how he should interpret that random laugh. She tells him, trying to keep a straight face, that he looks so sexy. He looks down at the apron and it’s a woman with a bikini on. Very sexy. Heh. He starts to take it off, but Hye Jin reminds him that he’ll spoil his clothes if the oil splatters.

He sits and says that they should eat. Hye Jin can’t help but look at him and smile. He puts his hands across his chest to block the bikini top and tells her to stop scanning him. She can’t help but laugh. Annoyed, he shakes a lettuce wrap at her.

Waitress tallies up the bill: 185,000 RKW. Sung Joon reaches into his jacket for his wallet… and discovers that it’s not there. Waitress starts to get annoyed. Sung Joon looks completely embarrassed. He has to go eat his words and ask Hye Jin for the money. He clears his throat and she enthusiastically thanks him for the meal. She ate very well! Beef was just the best! He has to ask and quietly asks for her to lend him some money. Unfortunately a motorcycle drives by and she doesn’t hear him. Pained, he has to admit that he left his wallet.

Hye Jin tries to pay but is short 40,000 RKW. She tells the waitress that they’ll pay when the other party gets there, but waitress isn’t biting. Hye Jin starts to leave her ID, but Sung Joon stops her and puts him his neck scarf as collateral. Waitress isn’t impressed: Who cares about this piece of cloth? Pay the 40,000 Won! He starts to protest that the scarf is not just a piece of cloth but the After Blue's 2015 Paris Collection– Because Paris sounds like a fly, waitress wants to know why Sung Joon’s spewing nonsense about dung flies?

Sung Joon calls Seol and asks where she is. She’s driving to the wrong place. She acts like she was confused.

Waitress wants to call the police, but Hye Jin pleads with her to wait until her friend sends over the money. She calls Ha Ri, but Ha Ri isn’t answering. Hye Jin tells him to call someone for money but he awkwardly admits that he doesn't have anyone he can call. Not even one? Not even one. How can he not even have one? Awkward shifting of weight by Sung Joon. Who feels like the lonely, fat kid again.

Hye Jin tries calling Shin Hyuk. Joo Young answers instead. Waitress asks if they know Hye Jin and explains that Hye Jin is short money. She wants Joo Young to wire the money. Joo Young thinks it’s a scam and hangs up on Waitress after insulting her. Then Joo Young tells everyone not to answer Hye Jin’s calls because of the phishing scam. Ah Reum doesn’t answer it. Waitress decides that they’ll just have to make up the payment with their bodies. She gives them horrid work clothes to change into. Sung Joon tries to say that he won’t wear them, but she’s adamant. And it’s lovely fuchsia pants that Sung Joon gets to wear.

Waitress tells them to shovel some cow dung. About 40,000 Won worth. They protest and waitress says that she’s going to call the police. Hye Jin orders Sung Joon to do it. He protests that he has a weak stomach! But they get to work. And wear goofy hats, too. As theyshovel, Hye Jin mutters about him ordering the special beef tenderloin and yukhoe when he doesn't even have any money?! Sung Joon says that he can hear everything and she ate way more than he did! Hye Jin answers that if she knew he didn't have money, she would just have eaten a little bit of wild vegetable bibimbap. Sung Joon protests that she’s the one who ordered the sampler naengmyeon (cold noodles). If she hadn’t have ordered it, they would have had 5,000 Won less of shoveling to do. She asks why he’s changing his tune now. He tells her to forget it and just get rid of the cow dung.

They end up bumping into each other and falling into the dung. Sung Joon screams in horror. Cow dung! COW DUNG!! She asks if he’s okay and he moans, asking if he looks like he’s okay. He whines that he can't do this, but then waitress appears and they get to work again. I can’t believe that they really had to shovel cow dung. And in the process of working, Hye Jin’s badge falls off into the cow dung. She doesn’t notice.

Company lunch. Shin Hyuk sighs because he misses Jackson. Flashback of them eating together. He sadly eats and gags. He spits it out into the food, which grosses everyone else out.

Sung Joon and Hye Jin are getting the hang of things. They feed the cows and dump the last of the dung. He almost gives her a high-five. They collapse onto a mat. He wants to make sure that the cleaning of the cow dung stays between them. She asks why it’s a big deal. He replies that it doesn’t seem like something to brag about. Since it bothers him, she agrees not to say anything. They both look up at the sky and don’t notice as the other frames a cloud with their fingers and smiles. The waitress comes and tells them that they finally paid back for their food!

Hye Jin realizes that her employee ID is gone. She starts to panic and Sung Joon tells her to forget it, there's no time. They should quickly wash up and get going. Hye Jin’s not listening but panicking. He tells her that she can get another one. Besides, they’ve already wasted a lot of time. Hye Jin replies that it may be nothing to him, but it’s not to her. She can’t leave it to roll around in cow dung. She hurries off to look in the barn. Sung Joon tells after her that he’s washing up and will leave in 20 minutes. But she’s not paying attention at all. He groans.

Hye Jin frantically hunts around the barn. Sung Joon enters and sees her upset. She eventually goes and cleans up. As she exits, Sung Joon holds out the ID. She asks where he found it. He replies that it was on the floor. Like it’s no big deal and he didn’t just sort through a bunch of manure to find it. She says that she looked here and there, everywhere. He replies that it was rolling around on the ground. She sighs and declares that it’s a relief. She bows a thank you and then kisses her ID, which makes Sung Joon gag. And me, too. It was in cow dung.

They start to leave when Waitress comes up and asks Sung Joon why he ransacked the compost pile. Busted! Hye Jin realizes what he did. She asks but he protests that she’s crazy. He found it on the floor, he said. He walks off, complaining about the dung flies. Hye Jin smiles and hurries after him. Waitress wonders if Sung Joon dropped a piece of gold in there. Well, it was worth as much as gold to Hye Jin.

As they drive, Hye Jin smiles happily. She tells him that it was the first time, getting into such a good company, and having an Employee ID with her picture on it... As she was looking for a job, the people she envied the most were the employees who had that kind of ID. That's why every time she looks at hers, she’s thankful, thrilled and proud every time. "Ah, I really have my place in this company." "I really am an employee here." Like that. Her simple pride makes him smile. She laughs and says that she’s overreacting, isn’t she. He tells her that she is, but it's not like he can't understand at all. Everybody has one or two things that are nothing to others, but have a special meaning for them.

She asks what his is. He says that it’s the thing you broke. The puzzle. She immediately feels awkward. He holds out his hand, expectantly. She asks why but all he does is shake his hand, demanding she hand ‘it’ over. She puts her hands in his. He immediately feels weird and asks what she’s doing. He clarifies that he’s asking her for money. To cover the cost of the broken glass that time. She’s offended and shoves his hand away. He says that she can wire it to him when she gets to Seoul. Didn’t the food she just bought cover it?

He starts to rattle off his account number. She pulls out her phone to write it down and Sung Joon snickers, telling her that she’s the perfect type to get swindled. She doesn't seem like the type that can differentiate jokes from seriousness. Indignant, she protests that she will pay. He says that the frame costs 1,000,000 Won. Immediately she puts her stylus away and says that she will take it as a joke! Heh. He starts to laugh but hides it when she looks in his direction.

Seol and Joon Woo have stopped for food. Seol lies and says that Sung Joon told them to take their time. She says that all the seats are dirty so she has to sit next to him. Next, she pretends that her car breaks down. She pretends to call for a mechanic. When the sun goes down, they make a fire and she snuggles into his arm, saying that the stars are very pretty. And then, they’ll kiss.

Of course, this is all in her head. Because from today on, her boyfriend is the son of Jin Sung Group's president, Kim Joon Woo! In this lifetime, she will be hitting a true jackpot! She giggles to herself about it and he asks why she’s not eating.

Sung Joon and Hye Jin arrive at their destination. Excited, Hye Jin runs for the ocean. She turns around and sees Sung Joon and remembers that they’re not there on an excursion. But he imitates her, calling out that it’s nice. So she goes back to basking in the beach. He suggests that they look around. Hye Jin wants to make a call so they can have some money to eat. But...he will pay her back, right? He grumps about declares that they should write an IOU! She smiles and says that he’s the perfect type to get swindled too. He tells her to go and make a call then.

Hye Jin stops to tie her shoes and Sung Joon answers the phone. It’s Ha Ri. She wants to have dinner. He suggests 8 o'clock in Gangwondo. She remembers his business trip. And I’m wondering how Hye Jin missed him calling the caller Hye Jin-a. She asks if he’s coming back the next day, but then gets a call from Hye Jin so she gets off the phone with Sung Joon. She answers Hye Jin’s call and Hye Jin asks her to wire some money. Ha Ri grumbles but agrees. Hye Jin adds that she won't be home until tomorrow. She got dragged to a business trip in place of someone. Ha Ri tries to casually ask who Hye Jin’s with. She’s not happy with the answer but pretends not to be bothered.

Poong Ho startles a bored Shin Hyuk with the spider. Ah Reum walks up and Shin Hyuk asks if she's going home. She’s surprised since it’s only 4 o’clock. Shin Hyuk groans because he thought it was at least 7 o’clock. He goes out for some air.

As they drive, Joon Woo complains about the route and Seol’s stomach gets sick from the lunch they ate. They come across a toilet and Seol has to run for it. She can’t believe her luck but says that she’ll recover it. She reaches for the toilet paper and there isn’t any. She has to ask Joon Woo to bring her some. Finally she finishes. Joon Woo starts to use it after her but stops because of the smell. She’s mortified and concludes that she can’t recover from it. She starts to run for the car and trips. Joon Woo hurries over and she cries that he’s smelling barnyard manure because of the field nearby! He says that he’s got it. She tells him that he needs to drive, since she sprained her foot, but he replies that he doesn’t have a license.

Shin Hyuk is calling Hye Jin and wondering why she’s not picking up. He calls Joon Woo to find out how it’s going and gets the news that Hye Jin and Sung Joon are by themselves. The conversation ends because Seol has to go back to the toilet. Jackson and Deputy Chief Editor are alone together?  And this business trip is an overnight trip? He glances over to some people by the fountain. The man shyly takes the woman’s hand. Shin Hyuk cringes, tries to stay calm, and then runs.

While on the beach, Hye Jin suggests they use the lighthouse in the shot. It goes well with the 'Traveling Alone' concept. Sung Joon’s already sketching. What he envisions appears on the beach. He says that he’s going to use a monotone color scheme. A loneliness feeling to match the concept of going on a vacation alone. Sung Joon becomes the man that they’re discussing.

Hye Jin says that it would be nice if there's a lamp and a letter on top of this table. Sung Joon asks why the letter and Hye Jin replies that even if you left alone, you would want to share others the feeling when you see something nice. Times like that, you would more likely want to write a letter rather than call. And this makes me think of all the letter he wrote to her when they were younger. She says that this person would've thought of someone he wanted to come with when he saw the ocean. So he makes a bonfire on his own, drinks warm tea, and takes a polaroid picture. She thinks that he would eat well and spend a good time. To the person he wants to be with, he says there's a fun place like here, that he had a good time, that he wants to come together next time. He would want to write that in a letter. \If you are able to interact with someone, like by writing a letter, a solo vacation would feel exciting rather than lonely. She smiles at the thought.

Then she realizes that Sung Joon is staring at her. Because what she said totally resonated! She apologizes for going overboard. Smacking her mouth, she asks what she knows. Sung Joon chuckles. He shakes his head that she’s wrong to think like that. He says that now that he thinks about, he had those times when he would be excited by a letter. Memories of being bullied in America. He says that his family immigrated when he was young, so when he couldn't understand others and didn't have any friends, there was a friend who always sent him letters from Korea. Lots of shots of smiling Sung Joon eagerly getting his letters as his VO says that the letters asks if he’s doing well there, is he adjusting well. To be able to write the letters he was going to send her, he cheered up and endured it then.

Then she stopped sending him the letters anymore, so he did have a hard time for quite a long time. Hye Jin feels bad but tries to act unaffected. Sung Joon says that the photo shoot will be a much warmer concept now. He says that it’s a good idea and holds up his hand. She gives him a high five and giggles. He smiles back but realizes that he’s not supposed to be enjoying her company. He yanks his hand away and says that he should finish his sketch. He turns his back to her.

♫ I will take one more step towards you ♫

She pretends to be unbothered and goes to look for any other decent spots. As she walks down the beach, she greet a woman and a dog. Sung Joon smiles in her direction.

♫ I don't have anything I want to say ♫

She glances over at him and he pretends to not be looking.

♫ There's no reason for love ♫
♫ Even if you ask me again, ♫
♫ the answer is still you ♫

He keeps taking pictures of her enjoying the beach.

♫ Besides saying "I love you", ♫
♫ I don't have anything else I want to say ♫
♫ You still don't know ♫

As the sun sets, she calls Joo Young to announce that she she found a nice place for the final destination. As she finishes the call, Sung Joon calls her Kin Hye Jin-shi and suggests that they finish up there and go. She stops and looks at him. He asks why she’s staring. Does he have something on his face? She says that it’s the first time. He asks what’s the first time. She replies that it’s the first time that he’s called her ‘Kim Hye Jin.’ He always addresses her as "Look here, intern." He protests, asks when did he always call her that? But stops as he remembers all the times that he did.

He clears his throat and asks if it’s not better than when she called him Bullshit Sung Joon? What does she think about that part? She starts to protest that it’s not a nickname that she made up. He tells her that they should just go eat. As they walk along the beach, he asks how she could call him ‘Bullshit Sung Joon.’ She says that he’s misunderstood. She didn't do that.

At dinner, Sung Joon is picking the peas out of his fried rice. She asks what he’s doing and declares that he doesn’t eat peas. Young Sung Joon sits before her, now, picking out the peas. He doesn’t get why people eat peas when they're not tasty and are just crumbly. She giggles at the memory. He asks why she’s laughing. She mumbles that she just thought of someone.

She spies a Rubik's Cube on the table and starts to play with it. She lines up one side and gets super excited at what a genius she is. He rolls his eyes and says that she only matched one side. He demands she hand it over and declares that this is nothing. He'll finish this in 30 seconds. She marvels at how fast he is.

After 30 seconds he puts the Cube down. It’s not finished. He says that it’s not working out well. She tells him that he must not be surprisingly smart. He protests that she’s crazy. He’s good at everything he has to use his brain on. He starts to talk about the game that you match the stick but can’t think of it. Hye Jin knows which one he means and sings some of it’s jingle. They think of the name –Tetris – at the same time. He tells her that the Tetris melody isn't what she sings. He sings his version. They start to argue over who is right.

They move on to girl groups from the 90s and then discuss dramas. At one point he laughs and points out that their tastes are very similar. They’re talking about something else when the hostess tells them that the restaurant is closing. Sung Joon looks at his phone and remarks that time went by really fast. She looks at him and tries not to beam – so she looks a bit awkward. He remarks that they’ve been there for a really long time. She nods. They get up to leave. They walk along the boardwalk and he freaks pulls her out of the way of a bicyclist – when she wasn’t in danger at all. They look at each other and he coughs awkwardly. She asks if he still has a cold, but he says that it was just the wind hitting his neck wrong.

Now it’s awkward walking. He says that now that he thinks about it, he didn't thank her. He then thanks her for that on that day. She doesn’t really say anything. He says that his Oma passed away when he was 12 years old. On a rainy day, when we were in the car together. Flashback to the accident and Sung Joon crying and his VO says that from that day on, he couldn’t really ride cars. He kept thinking that the same accident will occur again. For a while, he was okay, But for some reason he was like that on that day. Hye Jin doesn’t say anything.

Sung Joon wonders why he’s telling her these types of things? Because your heart knows that it’s Hye Jin and she’s someone you can really talk to. He jokes that there must have been whiskey in the chocolate they ate earlier. She doesn’t say anything. A little more awkwardness. Sung Joon points up at the night sky and they both appreciate it. He declares that he wishes he could take just the night back to Seoul. She thinks that she thought that he had become a completely different person now... She thought that her nice fatty friend Sung Joon had disappeared... but...he was still him. If she hadn't been so stupid and hid from him and instead had appeared, they could have laughed comfortably like they did today and she probably could have been next to him when he was having a hard time, right? She starts to think that she could tell him that she’s his friend Hye Jin, that she could tell him everything. Probably, if it's today.

Joon Woo is on the phone with Sung Joon, telling him that they’re not going to make it there tonight. He laughs as he thinks about Seol miserable. He says to himself that she’s kind of cute. Inside the room, Seol is throwing a little fit because it’s ruined. She’s ruined.

Hye Jin and Sung Joon are still walking. Hye Jin clears her throat and says that she’s going to tell him something that he might be very surprised to hear. There's a saying. There are memories which are better in thought. Memories are more beautiful when they've been frozen in time. She thought that too until very recently. But today... she had a thought that it might not all be true. Just remember this conversation when you figure out the truth. Because she just explained why she lied.

She pauses and he asks Kim Hye Jin-shi what she’s trying to say. She starts to confess, but is interrupted by Shin Hyuk, who calls her dongsaeng and says that she promised to buy him whelk! He even plays the recording of her promising. And I want to smack him. She can’t believe that he came all the way to Gangwondo over whelk? We know it’s not really over whelk. He leans in and seriously says, “Here I am.” Then he chuckles. And I do, too. Heh. Then he declares that he’s just joking. He heard that the Joon Woo team couldn't come so he came to take their place so they won’t be short-handed when they scout for locations tomorrow. Broad smile. Goofball.

Clearly irritated, Sung Joon says that he didn't know Shin Hyuk had this much passion for work. At any rate, they should go in. Shin Hyuk protests that he came all the way there. They should have a drink before they go in. Sung Joon replies that he doesn't drink. Remember last time? One drink sent him to the floor? Shin Hyuk chuckles and tells Sung Joon to go on ahead. They’ll (he and Hye Jin) will go in after they get a drink. Hye Jin is surprised but this immediately gets Sung Joon to change his tune. He turns around and says that these days, non-alcoholic beverages are pretty good. Shin Hyuk chuckles. Hye Jin asks Shin Hyuk why he really came? He answers by repeating the question and telling his Dongsaeng to come along. Accentuated with an eyebrow raise. Heh.

Now the trio are sitting at a table that overlooks a pool, Shin Hyuk and Sung Joon across from each other and Hye Jin between them. Where are they? Nice resort. Shin Hyuk crows that it's nice to get out of Seoul for once. He leans forward and says that since he came in such a hurry, he didn't get a chance to pack some underwear. Does Sung Joon have some panty he can lend him? Hye Jin chokes a little on her beer at the question. Shin Hyuk chuckles and pats her arm, like Hye Jin’s being so silly. With a hint of irritation and sarcasm, Sung Joon asks if Shin Hyuk left them with him for storage? What is he? An panty seller? Whenever Shin Hyuk sees him, he cries about panty! Sung Joon finishes saying that he only has for himself to wear.

Shin Hyuk’s not done. Sadly he mutters, asking if he has to wear it after he washes and dries it? But what will he do when he sleeps? He  only wears his underwear.. If he washes the panties, then what happens? Hye Jin spit her beer this time. Shin Hyuk starts cracking up and pats Hye Jin on the shoulder as she scrambles to clean up the mess. Sung Joon snaps at Shin Hyuk to go buy a pair at the convenience store later. Not getting that Shin Hyuk is talking about this to pull both of their chains. Shin Hyuk loudly, proudly, declares that, as expected, Sung Joon is the Deputy Chief Editor! There was that solution!

Hye Jin is now trying to open a bag of Lay’s Potato Chips with her teeth. Shin Hyuk addresses her as Dongsaeng and says that Orabeoni will open it for her. Orabeoni will. He loudly shows her how to open them, mostly for Sung Joon’s sake. Hye Jin and Sung Joon glance at each other and she shakes her head to say she doesn’t know why he’s acting like this. Hand again on Hye Jin’s shoulder, Shin Hyuk explains to Sung Joon that outside of work, we agreed to be Oppa and Dongsaeng. Right, Dongsaeng?

Sung Joon gets it: Oppa and Donsaeng? He laughs loudly, like he has no problem with that. He takes a swig of beer, ignoring Hye Jin when she says that it’s alcoholic. He says that with Kim Hye Jin, her specialty is pretending to be close to this and that person. Hye Jin mutters that that's not really it.. And that’s actually kind of insulting. Completely ignoring Sung Joon’s comment, Shin Hyuk looks over at Hye Jin and spots something on her face. He reaches up and gently brushes it away with a cheek caress. That bothers Sung Joon. Is that Shin Hyuk’s plan or is it because he’s jealous? Does Shin Hyuk even know what he’s doing? Sung Joon takes another swig of beer.

Shin Hyuk says that he prepared a present for her from Seoul. A present. He reaches over and takes her hand and puts something in it. It’s the fake spider. She screams loudly. Shin Hyuk laughs gleefully while he takes the spider out of her hand, continuing to hold it as he says that that's it! A reaction should be like this! Sung Joon definitely notices and it does bother him because he’s not smiling anymore. Hye Jin starts beating on Shin Hyuk’s shoulder as he laughs, because she was so startled.

Shin Hyuk’s laughing (or the hand holding) ticks Sung Joon off so much that he reaches over and slaps Shin Hyuk on the head, knocking off his stocking cap. Immediately Sung Joon claims that it was a mosquito. He pretends to blow it off his hand. Shin Hyuk picks up his cap and says that really, it makes him feel strangely offended. Sung Joon chuckles. He still has his face down at his hand. He mumbles that Shin Hyuk looks so sleazy. Uh-oh. The alcohol is kicking in. Sung Joon mutters ‘so sleazy’ again and passes out.

Shin Hyuk ends up giving Sung Joon another piggyback ride. He doesn’t even tuck Sung Joon in correctly. He pants as he asks what kind of a person gets drunk so normally? How are they supposed to know he was drunk if he doesn't show it? Hye Jin starts to tuck Sung Joon in correctly. Shin Hyuk declares that he’s tired and tells Jackson to get him a glass of water. She tells him to go get it himself. She clucks over Sung Joon as she tucks him in. A little indignant, Shin Hyuk says that he’s telling Hye Jin that her Orabeoni is tired and she can't even get him a glass of water? Is she that petty?

Shin Hyuk pulls Hye Jin by the arm so she’s looking at him and asks if, to her, does he look sleazy? She doesn’t respond. He doesn’t, right? She answers that she’ll get him some water. Shin Hyuk makes a face, irritated. Then he asks Sung Joon, “What about my face?” What's wrong with it? Why? He turns around and jumps when he sees himself in the mirror. He breaks out in a big smile and says that it startled him. He smiles at himself and says that because he’s this handsome, he’s always startled. He gives himself a wink and a flirty ‘hello.’

He spots Sung Joon’s camera and decides to look at the pictures that Sung Joon took earlier. He doesn’t want to do that, because they’re going to be mostly of Hye Jin. There’s a bunch of the seaside, which Shin Hyuk appreciates, but then he looks unsettled by the next couple of pictures (which we don’t see). Switch to Shin Hyuk running, wearing headphones, looking glum/pensive. Back to the pictures. All of Hye Jin. They’re good pictures, too. Shin Hyuk clenches his jaw as he looks at them – because he knows what it means. Back to Shin Hyuk running some more.

Switch to the next morning, Ha Ri leaving her bedroom. Hye Jin emerges from her bedroom and hurries over to give Ha Ri a hug, telling her that she missed her friend. Ha Ri asks my question: But when did Hye Jin get there? Hye Jin came in late last night. Ha Ri asks if anything happened on her business trip? She’s asking for herself, to see if her cover is blown, but she covers like it’s more concern over Hye Jin being uncomfortable around Sung Joon. Hye Jin says that she thought she would be but, maybe because it was outside of work, but she became more comfortable. Hye Jin spots the time and hurries out, but not before she tells Ha Ri that from today, it'll be hard to see her face because this week is their deadline. Don't cry because she’s not around and don't wait up for her. She hurries out and Ha Ri sighs.

As Hye Jin walks down the hall of The Most, Sung Joon comes up behind her and wishes her a friendly good morning, Kim Hye Jin-shi. She’s a little unsettled but recovers. Sung Joon enters and gives everyone a short pep talk, ending with a double-fisted ‘Fighting!’ Hye Jin encores the ‘Fighting!’ and Shin Hyuk makes a face. Because he’s jealous. Poong Ho is stretching and as Sung Joon walks by, he gives Poong Ho a five.

Everyone reacts because Sung Joon is acting weird. What's the matter with him? Did he eat something wrong? Why doesn't he just behave like he usually does? It's scarier like this. Hye Jin smiles to herself, because this is more the Sung Joon she knows. Shin Hyuk is watching her reaction. With concern. Hye Jin sits at her desk and notices the growth underneath her onion. She tells her onion that it’s beard looks cool.

Hard at work at the magazine. Sung Joon gets a call from Ha Ri, who wants to know how his trip was. She couldn't get in touch with him. I don’t like how her voice sounds, timid and afraid. She’s not this type of person. Slightly distracted because he’s working, he says that he was going to call her but he was busy. Even though he did have time to spend several hours hanging out, talking with Hye Jin. Joo Young pops her head in about the photos for the article on movie fashion, so Sung Joon quickly gets off the phone after apologizing about his deadline. Ha Ri wasn’t ready to hang up.

Later, Sung Joon finds food and a coffee on his desk. He turns around and mouths at Hye Jin that he'll eat it well. She smiles and gives a meaningful nod. Shin Hyuk is definitely bothered by this thawing in their relationship. He sighs, like he’s already lost. Everyone is working hard.

Sung Joon enters and asks them to work hard a bit more because the model's schedule changed, so the cover shooting for the 20th anniversary will be moved up to Thursday. He's a top model, so they have match to his schedule. Whines from the group. Sung Joon encourages them to just work a little harder since they came this far and have a nice break afterwards. He heads to his office while the group complains but gets to work. Hye Jin smiles.

Later, she brings Sung Joon his mail. He’s downright friendly as he says “thanks.” She asks if he can make some time after they're finished the cover shooting. Out in the work area, Shin Hyuk notices them talking. Hye Jin says that since she didn't pay him back for the glass frame, she wanted to buy him dinner. She also has something to tell him. He pauses to think for a moment and then agrees. Like he wasn’t going to say yes. She smiles and bows as she leaves. Out in the work area, Shin Hyuk looks like he wants to cry. He smiles sadly to himself. Because it’s all he can do. Man, don’t make me cry, Shin Hyuk!

Later, Hye Jin and Shin Hyuk are at a pojangmacha eating. He casually asks what she talked about with Sung Joon earlier. She says that she asked for time and is planning on telling him everything then. They’re eating udon! So good. Shin Hyuk tries to act unphased. Oh really? He sighs and kind of frowns at her. She asks why he’s looking at her like that. She asks if she reminded him of his little sister again. That wasn’t what he was thinking, but he goes along with it. The more he looks at her, the more similar they are. The way they two eat any type of food well, and the way they look at him. She really is similar to her. He smiles and cheerfully tells his dongsaeng to eat more.

Hye Jin burns her tongue and starts to pant as she fans it. Shin Hyuk chuckles and tells her that her actions right now resembles his dongsaeng the most. Hye Jin is moved to give Shin Hyuk some of her udon. Shin Hyuk goes to pay – he’s paying! – and Hye Jin notices a picture of a dog in his wallet. We see the picture of the dog. It’s a little poodle. And, oh my gosh, his little sister is a dog. I am rolling. No wonder Hye Jin  reminds him of her; they have similar hair and she good-naturedly comes back when he teases her, even as she complains. And when she was panting, he said that she reminded him of his sister the most. Aw, but that makes me even sadder, that he holds such affection for a dog because he didn’t have that with people. (Not that you can’t have that for a dog, but there’s something about the bond with a dog when you’re lonely, it goes deeper than that.) He tells her that the dog’s name is Coco. Then he adds that it’s his dongsaeng. That takes a minute to sink in.

Hye Jin hurries after him – he’s rubbing his belly, happily full – and she clarifies that the whole time his sister was a dog? Woof woof- a dog? Like there’s nothing out of the ordinary, he acts confused that she’s surprised or annoyed. He says that they raised her up like she was a part of the family. Then he acts surprised that she though he meant a person and that it’s her problem that she misunderstood. She misunderstood. Misunderstood.

He starts to walk off, but Hye Jin isn’t going to let this go. She starts to try to beat him, but he holds her back by her head. He protests that he never said that she was a human! Hye Jin asks if he wants to get bit by a person? He yells, “Coco, no biting people! Don't bite!” Which make me roll, because he has to be doing that on purpose now. She yells that she will bite him! He runs. She fumes and then runs after him.

Later, though, they’re walking. She tells him that he always jokes around and messes with her. Now he’s treating her like a dog! Wow. She didn't even know that and gave him her udon. Udon! He fumbles to say something and she asks if he knows how sad he was to know his dongsaeng was dead? She was really going to treat him well, so he can't do this to her. Why did he do that to her? Why? Shin Hyuk is thinking hard, like he’s having a debate in his head on if he should say it or not. Whatever it is. Hye Jin takes this as him ignoring her. That's right, he saw her as a dog so he's ignoring her now.

There’s a pause and Shin Hyuk announces, “Ah. That's why I was like that.” Hye Jin demands to hear the reason! Just why did she do this to him? Why? He looks at her, a puzzled frown on his face, like he’s confused by what he’s just figured out. He looks at her and says, “Jackson... I think I like you.” This was not what she was expecting. He explains. She said she’s going to tell Deputy Chief Editor everything, and for some reason he didn't like that. He’s worried that they might like each other after she tells him everything. He thinks about her for no reason. He was wondering why he was like that. He thinks that he knows now.

Shin Hyuk takes a step forward and she takes a step back to maintain the distance between them. He says, like he’s a little surprised himself, that he likes her, Jackson. In fact a lot! She blinks at him and he just looks at her. Then she yells that she almost believed him again! Like this is all a big joke. He thinks he can lie to her again? He protests that it's not a joke! He’s serious! He seriously likes her. She yells at him for using the word ‘seriously’ and starts to storm off. But not before turning around several times to half complete sentences. He stands there and yells after her that he really likes her! Her acting like that is even lovely! Then he runs after her, calling her Hye Jin-a! Kim Hye Jin!

Sung Joon and Ha Ri are also out on a date, walking. She asks about the business trip. He says that it was weird. Does she know what he did there? Cow poop... She looks a little uncomfortable, so he stops. Never mind. He chuckles. It doesn't sound like something he should say after they just ate. You could say it to Hye Jin, which is what you want to be able to do, Sung Joon. She asks why he's chuckling. Was there something funny? He replies that it’s nothing. Next time.

She presses and he says that on their team, there is an intern with the same name as Hye Jin. She's the same age as they are and she still knows all the game melodies that they did when they were young. She even sang to-to-torodoro and imitated it. He laughs again and says that it was really funny. Ha Ri says that she wants to ask him something. He prepares himself. She asks if he’s hanging out with her because she was his childhood friend. He asks what she’s trying to say. She says that she’s curious to hear it. What his feeling is towards her, why he hangs out with her, she wanted to confirm it. She confirmed her feelings.

Sung Joon blinks at her. He says her name (Hye Jin-a). Hye Jin and Shin Hyuk walk up close by. Hye Jin yells at him that she’s warning him again but he shouldn't be like that. Okay? Shin Hyuk protests that he understands! He’s sorry!

Ha Ri says that her heart… She steps forward and kisses him. Sung Joon stands there with his eyes open.

Shin Hyuk starts to say as an apology, but looks in their direction. It all comes together:
Ha Ri’s comment about being greedy about a shoe she can't fit into.
Hye Jin explaining about Sung Joon thinking that someone else other than her is Kim Hye Jin.
Ha Ri saying that it’s someone she keeps liking more even without her knowing.
Hye Jin describing Ha Ri as her other half.
Ha Ri mournfully saying that it’s someone she shouldn't date.
Shin Hyuk mutters “Oh, man,” to himself.

Hye Jin asks him what kind of apology that is and what he’s looking at. He stops her from looking. She tries again and he spins her around so she can’t see and hugs her from behind.

Thoughts

Wow, parts of this episode were really funny – like the cow dung and discovering that Shin Hyuk’s dongsaeng is a poodle – but parts of this episode were really sad. The path that Ha Ri is on makes me sad. She’s insecure in this love relationship because she knows that it’s based on a lie and now she’s doing things to manipulate and force it, when it shouldn’t be forced. What she’s doing is only going to end up hurting all of them even more, because she’s trying to wear shoes that don’t fit. In the end, she’s going to damage her soul-mate relationship with Hye Jin. Not that I don’t think that it can be repaired, but that hurt is going to cut Hye Jin to the heart like no one else can. The person she’s most vulnerable with (Ha Ri) is the one who is betraying her most. There’s no doubt in my mind that their friendship can recover, but it’s still a wound that Ha Ri shouldn’t be inflicting.

And poor Sung Joon is caught in the middle. He has no idea that he’s been lied to, even though his heart has already figured it out. He’s fighting his growing attraction to Hye Jin, who, if he knew the truth, he would be head over heels for, because she’s the same friend and support that she’s always been. He’s got this loyalty to his first love and Ha Ri is very nice and fun, but something about her’s off and Sung Joon keeps fighting to ignore that because he wants his Hye Jin to be back in his life.

And what’s worse about all of this is that Hye Jin has no clue at what Ha Ri is doing. I think that if Hye Jin did know – and I think Ha Ri knows this, too – that she would have come clean weeks ago, because of how this is messing with Sung Joon’s emotions. She’s already shown that she loves Sung Joon more than herself and is willing to put up with feeling hurt if it’s going to help Sung Joon out. I think that if she knew what Ha Ri was doing, she would have taken Sung Joon’s wrath and confessed. Right now, she thinks that he thinks his first love is off in England, so delaying the truth isn’t that big of a deal. Right now, it’s a small lie with little impact on Sung Joon’s life. But the reality is, it’s become a *big* lie with a *big* impact on Sung Joon’s life. If Hye Jin knew the truth, she would understand that and would have stopped it a while a go.

I love this four, but I really love Shin Hyuk. I love that he sees everything and gets what everything means. And I especially love that when he figures out that he likes Hye Jin, he doesn’t try to be coy or play the situation (manipulate it), he's just honest and declares how he feels. Man, if it had been me, I think I would have been a little puddy. I probably would have run, too, because that’s a big switching of gears, but it wouldn’t take me too long to realize that I want him to like me and that I like him back. But, of course, I’m not Hye Jin.

The realization that his dead dongsaeng was a poodle was really funny, but it also struck me as sad, because that dog was a sister to him. He was serious when he said that. And he carries around the dog’s picture prominently in his wallet. It’s more than an animal to him. It was a friend. That says to me that his life has been a pretty lonely one. I mean, he’s living by himself and his fondest relationship was with a dog, a dog that tragically died really early at age six (poodles, especially miniature ones, live to be 15 years old). That makes me hurt for him, because even as he came to realize that they are starting to like each other, he put that smile on his face. The smile that he puts on all the time, because he doesn’t want to feel hurt.
