100 Year Inheritance Episodes 29-30 Recap

Twenty-Nine.

Joo Ri drops to her knees before Chae Won and apologizes, saying she was so bad. Se Yoon’s outside the office listening. Joo Ri lists her reasons: she hated Chae Won being by Sunbae’s side. She lost her senses with jealousy. But she’s now realized that she's made a mistake she can’t take back. And Se Yoon looks like he could vomit and stops listening. Joo Ri says that she hates seeing herself this way. And because it was such a big mistake, she couldn’t ask for forgiveness. All that guilt and shame is what lead you to gloat then, when you thought you’d won, then? And she calls Chae Won Unni. Her insincere apology over, she flees the office. Chae Won just laughs in disbelief. Se Yoon’s waiting outside and actually wants to talk to her – probably feeling guilty like it’s his fault – but she declares that she’s too embarrassed and runs off.

Se Yoon goes back into the office and apologizes to Chae Won for being too careless. And being short-sighted. Even though he *knew* the family and who she was, he made a stupid mistake. He apologizes for her heart ache. She just tells him that she’s glad he knows the truth now. He asks her why she didn't tell him that she was being framed. Why did she do nothing, like a fool? Not the best thing to do right now. You were the fool, dude. She says that she didn’t feel like giving explanations. And you should have trusted her, dude! She asks him for one favor. He says anything. She says that she hopes something like this never happens again. Since their paths have crossed in such ways, she doesn’t want to create a situation where things could be misunderstood. And he’s getting engaged. Plus, he might have a problem because of rumors. He doesn’t get her point. She says that the more their paths cross, the more things can be misunderstood, so they should be careful. She’ll be careful not to harm him… He says her name but she cuts him off by saying thank you, since her name was cleared. And then she goes. Good girl! Se Yoon knows she’s just told him to stay away from her and he’s not happy.

EMIL’s at work and Joo Ri rushes in bawling. Joo Ri declares that everything’s been revealed and Se Yoon will probably break up with her! So then EMIL and Joo Ri go to visit Mom and Dad in the hospital. Mom notices Joo Ri’s puffy face. EMIL tells Joo Ri to confess and apologize. Why do I detect spin coming? Joo Ri declares she was wrong and she doesn’t know why she did it. Mom is understandably confused. EMIL acts indignant, like this is totally out of character for Joo Ri! And she made her dead father look bad! And here’s the spin… EMIL says that Joo Ri constantly has to worry about Chae Won and *that’s* why she made her mistake. Even though a completely honest and upright person would never have thought of, let alone considered, doing what Joo Ri did.

Chae Won's working, checking in with the cafeteria customers. Hong Joo arrives. She walks up to Chae Won but Chae Won doesn’t recognize her. And don’t you think if she was cheating with Chul Kyu that she’d know what his new wife looks like? Hong Joo asks if it’s okay for her to sit and wait for the person she’s meeting. Chae Won says of course. Hong Joo goes and sits and then Chae Won realizes who Hong Joo is. Run, now, drama is coming. Run fast. She looks at Hong Joo and Hong Joo’s just staring at her. Hong Joo calls Chul Kyu at work and tells him to come to lunch. She’s at Joo Ri’s work. She mentions that she’s at the cafeteria and Chul Kyu gets the drift. Hong Joo engages Chae Won in conversation – because Chae Won hasn’t RUN. Chae Won tries not to engage. And actually *does* walk away. Chul Kyu arrives. Here comes the drama. Nice little scene, even though Chae Won was just watching.

Outside Se Yoon gets to witness their fight over Chae Won. And after telling Hong Joo that she drives him crazy, Chul Kyu drives off, leaving Hong Joo there. Se Yoon goes to see if Chae Won is okay, but doesn’t actually go in, remembering her last words to him.

Oeharabeoji gets off the bus and has a dizzy spell. Choon Hee sees him, but he just says it was some motion sickness. Oeharabeoji suggests they go get a drink someplace. That orange juice looks good. Oeharabeoji says he’s proud of her because she chose to come live with them. He tells her he’s grateful for her being so considerate, when they’re not even related. He tells her that he thinks of her as his dead daughter come back to life. Then he asks Choon Hee to participate in the contest. Then we don’t hear what he says, but Choon Hee is shocked and then starts to cry. So Oeharabeoji is dying, then.

The kids reacting to Choon Hee joining the contest, yelling about how she’s two-faced. Oeharabeoji announces that he asked her to join. The siblings are pissed because it could mean they win the money. Oehalmeoni doesn’t take sides. AILs yell at Choon Hee. EAIL threatens Choon Hee and Choon Hee tells her to go ahead! The AILs leave and Appa comes and asks Choon Hee *why* she’s doing this? Greedy for the money? She’s annoyed and says it’s not that.

Auntie takes a look at Opera Man’s laundry and decides to take him shopping since his clothes are all holey. Underwear shopping. Grocery shopping. A worker thinks they’re married. Awkward faces.

Mom goes to see Se Yoon at work. She says she’s talked to Joo Ri, who was very sorry. Dad has decided to have *Chae Won* resign. Because that makes sense. Punish the completely innocent person. Se Yoon doesn’t see why it’s not Joo Ri, since she started it. Mom says that it’s Chae Won that started it: because Joo Ri was suspicious of their relationship, she had a momentary lapse in judgment. Se Yoon can’t believe what she’s saying and neither can I. He asks Mom why she’s always on Joo Ri’s side. Mom says she understands Joo Ri. And Chae Won made him waver. Se Yoon says that Chae Won isn’t that kind of woman. Mom thinks he’s very familiar. He says he doesn’t know everything, but he knows enough. Chae Won will let others take from her, like a dummy, and she’s not the one to take and cause others harm. Mom asks him if he talked like this in front of Joo Ri and she sees why Joo Ri was so insecure! Se Yoon is baffled and Mom says that he’s *always* been on Chae Won’s side! I wish he would just tell Mom about how EMIL threw Chae Won in a mental institution, framed him as her lover when she had amnesia and is EMIL! Good night. Speak up, man! Se Yoon sighs, frustrated. Mom tells him that they’ve scheduled his engagement for the 2nd week of next month. And Se Yoon doesn’t say NO.

Chul Kyu comes home drunk. EMIL tries to smooth things over with Hong Joo. Hong Joo mentions visiting Chae Won’s work. EMIL asks why she went there and Hong Joo says that she did it *because it was fun.* EMIL just tells her not to worry and keep it their little secret. Hong Joo understands.

Noodle factory. The AILs are formally protesting. Oehalmeoni is stressing. Oeharabeoji announces that he’ll withdraw his proposal and just donate the land to society. Now the winner will just get the noodle factory.

Joo Ri is waiting for Se Yoon outside his house. He tells her it’s late and they should talk tomorrow. She blurts out that she was wrong. He looks at her and asks where the truth begins and the lies end. She may have persuaded his parents, but he’s not going to be that easy. He tells her that he guesses he didn’t know her very well. The person he knew before, because of their friendship, she couldn’t even confess once. She was a delicate person who suffered for three years. But the person he’s come to know – they should just stop now. She pleads that even though she did all that, her love is sincere! And she’s crying now. That's not manipulative at all. She cries that she was desperate! Can’t he see it that way? He says that he’s not done thinking yet. Once he is, they’ll talk again. Then he goes in the house. And Joo Ri cries. Inside Se Yoon sighs.

At the noodle factory, Chae Won is looking at the stars and thinking about Se Yoon asking why she didn’t say anything. She thinks that if it wasn’t him, she could have given excuses and explanations. But because it was the person who she thought would think the best of her… She wonders why she ever thought he would be different.

Joo Ri’s getting a dress fitting. EMIL’s grumbling about the situation. Joo Ri asks if Se Yoon’s gotten fitted for his tux. Se Yoon’s trying to get his parents to stop rushing things and give him time to think. Mom says he agreed! And he says that because he’s so confused, he *shouldn’t* be getting engaged. But the invitations have all been sent! He asks her why she’s doing whatever she wants! Why is she rushing? Mom says that she was worried that things would turn out the same as three years ago. She scared of that. Even though she asks him, in the name of his father, he repeats that he’s definitely asked her that they hold off on the engagement.

Chae Won’s working. Joo Ri stops by, bringing an engagement invitation. So Chae Won can definitely get over Se Yoon, of course. She leaves and Chae Won checks out the invite, just to confirm that Se Yoon’s really still engaged. Se Yoon is troubled and then they run into each other. He asks her why she looks so down and then realizes she has the invitation, which she tries to hide. She congratulates him but says that she has plans so she’ll have to miss it. She politely bows. He asks her if her congratulations are sincere from the heart. Dude, you’re asking her to declare herself when you’re the one who screwed up? She replies that it naturally should be congratulated, since it’s a happy occasion. He asks if that’s really true. And they’re interrupted by Asst Yoon arriving to announce that the French guy loved Chae Won’s noodles. On that note, Asst Yoon suggests they go out after work. Se Yoon is all for that idea but Chae Won refuses, since it’s a marketing team thing. And the knife digs in Se Yoon’s heart as Asst Yoon says that she’s the whole reason for the dinner anyway!

Noodle making. Oeharabeoji compliments Choon Hee on her quick study. He asks her what the noodles mean to her. She says they’re like magpies. They chirp joyfully when visitors arrive. Oeharabeoji likes that idea. Oeharabeoji asks YUncle what noodles mean to him and he replies 10 million won. Before he realizes what he’s said. Oeharabeoji leaves. The siblings grouse and leave. Appa still wants to know what Choon Hee’s doing. She doesn’t answer his question.

Chae Won’s gotten dragged to the dinner by the clueless Asst Yoon. She *doesn’t* want to be there. Se Yoon’s miserable. Joo Ri’s upset. Chae Won begs to be let out of the dinner. Asst Yoon apologies and says he feels bad about the misunderstanding he had. So of course Chae Won has to go. Another female team member begs. Se Yoon encourages her to go. Don’t do it! Joo Ri announces that she has to go ring shopping. So they ask if Se Yoon has to miss things and he says no. Idiot. You’re making things more uncomfortable and that was your out from torturing Chae Won more. They leave and Joo Ri seethes. She can always show up halfway through or say that EMIL had to reschedule.

Restaurant. Se Yoon congratulates the marketing team. But Se Yoon doesn’t actually drink the Soju. He says he’s not feeling well. So why are you out eating then? Asst Yoon gives Chae Won a drink as a symbol of his formal apology, which he makes. Younger guy wants to give her a drink next. She tells them she has a low tolerance for alcohol, but they pressure her. So she takes the Soju and pours it out into a glass when no one’s looking.

Later, the group is pretty drunk, except for Chae Won and Se Yoon. And there’s a lot of Soju in that glass. Se Yoon asks for a glass of water but then grabs her ‘water’ glass and chugs it, even as she tries to warn him, but he just chugs it any way. Which is one of the reasons I really like this guy, because he’s good at being polite and watches out for other people. He gives plausible excuses for things so that no one will feel awkward. He’s kind. Then Chae Won remembers how he doesn’t seem to notice the taste of things. So maybe he wasn’t being kind and did actually think it was water.

The drunk marketing team get in a taxi. Se Yoon offers to give Chae Won a ride. He says he didn’t have a single drink. She tells him that the glass he drank earlier was Soju. He has to fess up that he’s lost his sense of taste. When Eun Seol died, he lost it. Eun Seol was studying to be a chef. Mom was so against their getting married that Eun Seol made a special birthday cake for her and that’s when Eun Seol died in a head-on collision. He says that because of his survivor’s guilt, he’s been tormented. She mentions the urn visit. He tells her that only Hyung knows about the taste-loss, not even his family. She says she’ll keep his secret. He tells her that he never thought he’d be able to talk like this with anyone. She tells him she’s sorry for his painful memories and he smiles and says that he feels better now that he’s talked about it. Lighter. Since he confided in her, he feels even better. Chae Won points out that Eun Seol wouldn’t want him to be suffering like this. He should be strong because he can find them both again (love and a sense of taste). He wonders if he really can go back to his old self.

Next day, he’s fishing and thinking about hyung telling him about how he and Chae Won were good together. Mom calls and he ignores the call. Mom leaves a message because she’s freaking. The engagement party is *in three hours*! I guess more time has passed than just a day or two, if it’s engagement day. Joo Ri’s pacing. Flashback to coffee with Se Yoon, who announces that he’s been tormenting himself for a long time. They should stop there. She asks what he means. He replies that when he decided to get engaged, he thought that he just had to try hard enough, but some things don’t work no matter how hard you try. He doesn’t want to get engaged and says if they don’t stop there, he’ll end up hurting her more. She refuses to break off the engagement. And it takes two to get engaged. She tries calling him but he ignores the call. EMIL can’t believe how he’s going to get them humiliated.

Chae Won’s thinking about the engagement sadly. Se Yoon’s driving. He thinks that if he wavers now, he’ll just end up hurting everyone. He arrives at the hotel.

Thirty.

Engagement party. Dad’s clueless that Se Yoon doesn’t want the engagement. Joo Ri’s pacing. EMIL comes in and says that he’s not coming. Chul Kyu comes to check things out. Se Yoon arrives with *five* minutes to spare. Joo Ri is overjoyed that he made it. Se Yoon is not smiling. Mom comes out. EMIL yells at him like a harpy, but Mom doesn’t think anything of it. He apologizes. They want to rush and get started Se Yoon announces that he came because he’s not going to go through with the engagement.

Se Yoon goes into the hall, with Mom trying to get him to stop and talk, but he’s a man with a mission. He goes to the mike and apologizes to everyone gathered. He announces that he cannot get engaged. He showed up out of respect for them. He apologizes to his father. Joo Ri sinks to the floor. Dad yells at Se Yoon and, of course, has another heart attack. Se Yoon lets Chul Kyu punch him. Mom asks how Chul Kyu dares punch her son! EMIL curses at Mom and at Se Yoon. Mom tells Chul Kyu to stop before she calls the police. He pauses to apologize and punches Se Yoon *again* so that he crashes into the refreshment table and the ice sculpture smashes. Mom’s freaking that Se Yoon is okay.

Chae Won’s working. And she’s sad because Se Yoon is engaged now. She throws the invitation away. Choon Hee brings Oeharabeoji something to drink and tells him to go have some fun with his friends. He says he has the most fun making noodles. Choon Hee nicely gives Oeharabeoji a massage and the AILs mutter about how much of a flirt she is. Uncles yelling at Appa about the contest. YUncle tells Appa that he has to stop being whipped. Like the two of them. Auntie’s doing Opera Man’s laundry. They have a moment.

Se Yoon’s now getting bawled out by Dad. So I guess no heart attack. Dad can’t believe that Se Yoon wouldn’t say anything and just do this. Mom pipes up that Se Yoon did say he wanted to cancel, but she just went ahead. Dad wants to know why Se Yoon didn’t want to get engaged. Se Yoon says that he wants to start over again. Parents are touched. He tells them that after losing Eun Seol, he thought he’d never love again, so in despair he agreed to the engagement. But he came to his senses and realized that he can start over. And settling for life with Joo Ri doesn't have to be his fate.

Joo Ri sits in the empty engagement hall. She trashes the cake and starts moaning. EMIL comes to take her home. EMIL says that there are other men! Screams from Joo Ri. Joo Ri blames it all on Chae Won. If it wasn’t for her, then Se Yoon wouldn’t have seen how horrible her family is. If Chae Won hadn’t gone to work at the company, things wouldn’t have turned out so disastrously! It’s all her fault! EMIL declares that Chae Won was born to ruin their family! Not your own horrible actions, just this woman who *made* you do them. Joo Ri declares that there *has* to be something between them. EMIL calls Chae Won scheming! Joo Ri vows not to leave her alone. EMIL tells Chul Kyu and Hong Joo to go home because they have somewhere to be.

Choon Hee is doing all the dishes. Chae Won offers to help. They call each other mother and daughter. Joo Ri and EMIL arrive. EMIL starts yelling for Chae Won. Chae Won hurries outside. Why are they there? EMIL declares that she ruined Joo Ri’s engagement and made them to be fools in front of everyone. EMIL starts cursing her out. Joo Ri stops EMIL and asks Chae Won if she’s planning on running off with Se Yoon. Chae Won says she had nothing to do with Se Yoon breaking off his engagement. But even if she was, she’s under no obligation to tell Joo Ri.

Joo Ri goes to smack Chae Won but it's Choon Hee Oma to the rescue. CHOma grabs Joo Ri’s wrist and declares that the girl dares to hit Chae Won! EMIL gets involved. Chae Won tells EMIL to let go of Oma’s hand! EMIL spits that Chae Won’s mother is DEAD. CHOma declares that this is why EMIL thinks she can act that way, because Chae Won hasn’t had a mother to stand up for her?! CHOma declares that EMIL’s met her worst match now. EMIL made up false charges against her husband and was so vicious. EMIL declares that Se Yoon’s family would never put up with Chae Won, being so lowly. CHOma declares that Chae Won is so much better than Joo Ri! EMIL’s offended but CHOma says that Joo Ri’s the loser because she can’t capture Se Yoon’s heart and is now taking out on someone else. Chae Won shoves them away and tells them to leave. EMIL can’t believe how strong Chae Won is. EMIL and Joo Ri leave, with CHOma throwing salt after them. Which is all kinds of awesome. Chae Won asks if CHOma is okay. CHOma asks what the ruckus was all about? A broken engagement?

Chul Kyu is still trying to reach EMIL and Joo Ri. Mrs. Park tells him that today’s Hong Joo’s birthday. Chul Kyu suggests they go out for her birthday. Hong Joo’s carrying that dog again but she agrees to go out. EMIL and Joo Ri arrive home. Chul Kyu gives Joo Ri a hard time. Joo Ri screams at him and storms off. EMIL tells him that she thinks that Chae Won stole Se Yoon. Chul Kyu gets jealous and runs out, leaving Hong Joo without a word of explanation. Chae Won’s thinking of the fight with Joo Ri. Chul Kyu arrives and Chae Won doesn’t ignore his text but goes outside to talk to him. Instead of calling the police like she threatened. He asks if she’s the reason Se Yoon broke the engagement. She says no. Chul Kyu declares that he’ll go crazy if she’s lying about it. He’d rather die than see her with Se Yoon. Not obsessive at all.

Stupid Joo Ri moping. Mom calls her to apologize for pushing the engagement. Mom tells her that she’s always thought of just Joo Ri as Se Yoon’s wife, so she should wait a little until they try to get Se Yoon’s heart back. EMIL grabs the phone and is obnoxious. Mom is apologetic. EMIL accuses Se Yoon of being interested in Chae Won. Mom is horrified that Se Yoon might like Chae Won. She almost goes to pester him but stops herself.

CHOma is being motherly to a sad Chae Won. Chae Won explains the situation and how EMIL framed them as lovers. And how he found her the nutritionist job. Oma thinks that Se Yoon has feeling for her. Appa comes home. They decide not to tell Appa about today’s drama. Chae Won wonders if it *was* because of her but declares that impossible. Appa is drunk. She tells him he stinks. He sticks his man foot down and acts stupid. He demands some honey water. And the siblings watch the whole thing with glee.

Partners Auntie and Opera Man are eating together. They fight over who eats first. So they eat at the same time and have a ‘Lady and the Tramp’ moment. And then they argue over whether he can hold her up with one hand. And he can’t so they fall to the floor and their lips brush!

Se Yoon’s at home, deep in thought. He calls someone and says they need to talk. He’s called Joo Ri. At the café, he asks if she’s okay and then apologizes. She asks him if there’s no way to forgive her? He says it’s not that. EMIL? Her family? Not that? Then what? He doesn’t have feelings for her. Knife to the heart! And I don’t feel bad for her at all even as she silently cries. He tells her that no matter how hard he tried, he didn’t develop any feelings for her. He wasn’t curious about her. He didn’t even wonder what she was doing. She’s still his cute junior and a good co-worker, but any other feelings is too much for him. If he’d realized sooner, today wouldn’t have happened. He apologizes again. She asks him one final question, asking that he promise to be honest: the heart he can’t give her a piece of, has he given it to Chae Won? He’s silent for a moment and then tells her that he’s going to find the answer to that question. And I like that answer.

Joo Ri returns home, utterly downcast. EMIL follows Joo Ri to her room, where Joo Ri weeps and declares that it’s really the end. Chul Kyu returns, not drunk, and *then* remembers he was supposed to take Hong Joo out. Since there’s still 20 minutes left, he takes her out and buys her a birthday cake from a convenience store. She calls it gross and reluctantly blows out the candles. She wants to leave, but he declares she needs a present on her birthday. He blows up a balloon and twists it into a bouquet. As much as she protests that she hates it, she really likes it. As they walk home, she thanks him and tells him he's the first man who’s ever celebrated her birthday. She bugs him about where he went again but he doesn’t answer.

Se Yoon’s sitting up, thinking about Chae Won, how she encouraged him when he confided in her by the river. Chae Won can’t sleep either.

Next morning, Appa is doing Oma’s chores because she’s not feeling well. Siblings are upset that he caved. Oma rises and the two are cutesy again.

Company. Chae Won catches the elevator that Se Yoon and Asst Yoon are on. She’s uncomfortable. Asst Yoon reports that Joo Ri wants to take a week off. Asst Yoon asks Se Yoon if he’s okay. He says yes. At home, Joo Ri’s thinking about that conversion with Se Yoon and throws a fit about how he’s going to slowly take time to find out what feelings he holds for Chae Won in his heart. Chae Won screams about how she can be inferior and that she WON’T finish with him. What is it with these siblings and their obsessive behavior? EMIL goes downstairs and Hong Joo offers to bring her some orange juice. EMIL notices that she’s in a good mood. Hong Joo offers EMIL some comforting words. And Hong Joo goes upstairs and smiles over the gift Chul Kyu gave her.

Se Yoon stops by Chae Won’s office, but she’s not there. Cook2 tells him that she’s probably down in the kitchen. He leaves and the cooks gossip about the broken engagement. Se Yoon arrives in time to save a box from falling on her. Awkwardness. Se Yoon’s stomach growls and they laugh. He announces that he hasn’t eaten since Saturday because he’s felt bad about asking Mom for meals. He asks Chae Won to make him something. And as the food’s put in front of him, I realize that when he ate that really spicy stuff and declared it suiting his tastes perfectly, it’s not because he was liking her, it was because he couldn’t taste how spicy it was. She starts to warn him it might be too salty, but then stops because she forgot. He tells her that if she’s really sorry she’ll get him some more rice. Then he asks her if she’s heard. She sits back down. He muses that the rumors must have spread at work by now. Joo Ri arrives to see them together. Why she’s down in the cafeteria, I don’t know. Chae Won mentions EMIL and Joo Ri coming by. She asks why he broke off the engagement. He doesn’t answer. Joo Ri can’t believe how quickly Se Yoon’s going to her.

Se Yoon and Chae Won leave work together and she tries to say goodbye. He asks her where she’s going. She tells him she’s going home. He says she can’t because he’s not done with her yet. She wants to talk later, since it’s late. She tries to go, but he stops her by grabbing her arm. He tells her he has to say this today. He says that he thought about this moment all weekend… how he might bring it up. He wants them to go somewhere quiet so they can talk and then he takes her by the hand and leads her to his car. Stalker Joo Ri is watching and declares she won’t leave Chae Won alone. Se Yoon gets a call and has to run back inside to get something. Joo Ri arrives at the car and demands she get out. Chae Won refuses so Joo Ri climbs in the car and declares that if she can’t have him, then she won’t let her have him! Joo Ri drives off with Chae Won. Because it’s normal to just leave the car keys in the ignition. Se Yoon runs after them as the episode ends. Are we going to see another suicidal sibling? It's two-for-two on the kidnapping front.
