Hyde, Jekyll and I Episode 2 Recap

The episode opens with Ha Na and Robin (since that’s who’s inhabiting the body right now) splashing into the water. Tender music plays as Robin cradles Ha Na. She opens her eyes briefly to look at his face before losing consciousness again.

HydeJekyll_003   HydeJekyll_004   HydeJekyll_005

Ha Na asks if it was Seo Jin who saved her. We switch to the hospital room where Seo Jin is looking absolutely like a man trying not to look terrified. He swallows heavily as she speaks. He doesn’t like what he’s hearing. He rescued her? He jumped into the water? As Ha Na specifically asks if Seo Jin saved her. Young Chan coils back in shock, his hand covering his mouth. It means that Robin is back. Although I don’t see what’s so bad about Robin. He rescues people, helps them. Seo Jin blinks heavily, his eyes glossy. And this moment makes me feel a little bad for him.

HydeJekyll_006

Finally Seo Jin speaks to repeat Ha Na’s question: Did he rescue her? She asks him if she’s wrong in thinking that it’s him, since he fell in the water, too. Ha Na says that it’s all a little hazy. Apparently they were in the water. What she does remember is that someone was holding onto her in the water... Seo Jin tells her to wait and be quiet. He grabs his head, like he’s trying to keep his head from exploding. He tells Young Chan to send her out. No one moves. From this position, Seo Jin yells at Ha Na to go out! Can't she hear?!

Ha Na blinks, a little confused. Why is he getting mad at her? She asked if Seo Jin rescued her. Seo Jin looks at her and declares that he never rescued her. He’s not someone who goes around rescuing women, so get out. This is very true, since it was Robin who did it, but it probably would have been smarter to say that it was him so that she wouldn’t be suspicious. Young Chan tries to herd her toward the door, but she stops and asks about the pendant around Seo Jin’s neck. Is it his? So she recognizes the pendant? When Seo Jin isn’t sure what she’s talking about, she decides that it can’t be him and leaves.

HydeJekyll_008   HydeJekyll_009   HydeJekyll_011

As Ha Na leaves, Seo Jin looks around for his glasses. The right lens is busted. Seo Jin blinks, trying not to give into his fear. He looks at his reflection and wonders why Robin has appeared again.

Outside, Ha Na is glaring at his door, ticked that he’s acting so cold to avoid her bringing up the contract. She calls him a jerk. Then she remembers 15 years ago…

Flashback. Ha Na is hanging desperately from a bridge. She almost falls when a boy catches her hand. He’s wearing the pendant. She slips from his hand and falls into the water. He quickly jumps in after her. He shakes her awake and she sees the pendant. As they swim for the surface, we hear her tell him thank you. He tells her not to thank him. It's in his nature. So does this mean, from the beginning, Robin was aware of being an alter? If he’s aware enough to know that it’s his nature/personality to be like that?

HydeJekyll_012   HydeJekyll_013

Present. Ha Na shakes her head, concluding that it couldn’t possibly be Seo Jin. It's probably a coincidence.

Airport. Older man – Seo Jin’s father – is being filled on what’s happened by Suk Won. And what is going on with this guy’s eyebrows? Crazy brows! He’s not happy. He refers to Robin as ‘that bastard.’ A woman is with him and she looks horrified. Has to be Seo Jin’s mother. Suk Won says that he didn’t see it with his own eyes. He explains that Seo Jin had gone up to meet Dr. Kang and then fell down into the lake with a woman a bit later. Dad wants to know if Seo Jin remembers falling. Suk Won doesn’t think so. Mom is completely horrified. And speechless. Dad’s reaction? Swear under his breath.

HydeJekyll_019   HydeJekyll_020   HydeJekyll_021

Back to Seo Jin, sitting in that fetal position, worried that Robin has appeared again and saved someone again. Well, if that’s his purpose, then you know how you can get rid of him, Seo Jin? Start rescuing people yourself instead of running away. Reluctantly Young Chan says that he thinks it is. Who, aside from Robin, would jump into the water to save someone on a cold day like this? Seo Jin doesn’t understand why, after nothing happening for five years, why it’s happening again?! Especially given his earlier conversation where he’s compared his life to being a zombie. After all his hard work, it happened again.

Seo Jin suddenly remembers what he was doing when this happened. He orders Young Chan to call Dr. Kang quickly. She said she found a treatment, so he’s thinking that this will fix the problem. Young Chan reluctantly tells Seo Jin that Dr. Kang has gone missing.

We switch to the police station, Police Officer Na is giving a briefing on the missing persons case of Doctor Kang Hee Ae. And either the writers aren’t familiar with how people talk when they give presentations, or they do things differently in Korea. Instead of saying, “Next,” for the next slide, Na says, “Cue.” Cue. Disappearance of Doctor Kang Hee Ae - Photo of Scene. Shattered table glass. Blood stain on the carpet. One of the detectives wonders if it’s the Dr. Kang that they know, the professor of psychiatry at Hangyeol University who does hypnosis investigation for the National Forensic Service. Same detective asks why it’s already a missing persons case, since it hasn't even been twelve hours since the incident. Na plays a 119 call where Dr. Kang begs for someone to save her. Detective Na’s eyebrows are killing me. Like he’s trying to channel James Bond.

HydeJekyll_024

Detective asks if the patrol division went right away. Na reports that they went within ten minutes, but there was no one there. Another detective asks about someone falling into the water. Cue. It’s not like he’s in an auditorium where he couldn’t work the clicker himself… Instead, he ‘cues’ someone else. Shot of the rooftop right above the office. So why did MIB drag Ha Na up a flight of stairs to choke her and dump her, when he could have killed her in the office? Less dramatic, I guess. Na reports that someone fell from the roof; witnessed by people in the hospital. Not Dr. Kang, but a female by the name of Jang Ha Na. The other was Goo Seo Jin, the son of Wonder Group's CEO's .

Seo Jin. He realizes that the MIB must have been the one who took her. He asks what they police have found.

Briefing. I’m getting flashbacks to ‘You’re All Surrounded’ and I’m really hoping that the police procedural parts will be at a minimum. As much as I loved it, that’s not why I’m watching *this* show. They ask about why Ha Na and Seo Jin were at the hospital. Na doesn’t know, since Seo Jin and Ha Na were still unconscious when he visited. He reports that Dr. Kang was Goo Seo Jin's primary physician. Detective asks if there’s evidence of resistance from Dr. Kang? None. Although, I would think that the shattered glass was signs of a struggle. Come on, guys! No evidence of her being dragged out and no CCTV footage – the cameras were all shut off on the tenth floor where the office is, the elevator and the underground parking garage. There aren't any CCTVs up on the rooftop. Our crack team of detectives conclude that they must have been shut off on purpose.

I guess Detective is the boss, because he starts divvying out the jobs. Detective tells Detective Jang to go to the hospital and check the CCTVs according to the floor and timeline. He’s supposed to wait until tomorrow, though, because Detective makes sure to say that Jang should go to the hospital instead of coming into work the next day. Detective Kang is to check if anyone around Dr. Kang had a grudge against her. And Detective Na is supposed to interview the witnesses. The other two detectives aren’t given anything to do. Briefing concluded. And Detective isn’t Team Leader Seo Pan Suk.

Na calls Ha Na’s hand phone but gets Jin Joo instead. She takes the message that he’s coming the next day to do a witness interview. Ha Na asks about that unconscious person, what happened to her. Jin Joo snaps that she didn’t ask. She wants to know what Seo Jin said about the whole thing. Ha Na says that as far as she can tell, the only thing that jerk knows how to say is, “Leave.”

HydeJekyll_025

Seo Jin and Dad. Dad orders Seo Jin to leave until they find Dr. Kang. So much for warm fuzzies from Dad. And what is he wearing? It’s like a bad Nazi pilot outfit but worse. Wow. It’s so ugly. Mom is not there.

Arms crossed and sitting in her bed now, Ha Na indignantly says that Seo Jin hasn't received a proper education on how to speak and it seems like his facial muscles are paralyzed. Into a frown, of course. Jin Joo chuckles. Ha Na says that even a serious person smiles and show kindness on his face *sometimes.* Sometimes, even with a mischievous look or a look of distaste. Jin Joo chuckles again. But Executive Managing Director Goo is a complete sociopath who doesn’t have an inkling about human emotions. ‘Reach the sales goal of 5 trillion. Increase the net profit.’ That's what fills up his head. He doesn't even know that his business is to sell dreams.

HydeJekyll_028   HydeJekyll_029   HydeJekyll_030

Jin Joo concludes from all this that Seo Jin wasn’t the prince on the bridge who rescued her when she was young. Ha Na gives Jin Joo an ‘oh, please’ wave and purses her lips to poo-poo the idea. Jin Joo is finding Ha Na’s discomfort amusing. She went there because she thought it was him. Ha Na replies that Seo Jin says he’s not the type of person to go around rescuing women. She declares that his acting skills reached another level – referring to when he acted traumatized over the gorilla incident –to stop her from bringing up the contract.

SS Dad is frowning. And about a foot shorter than Seo Jin. Seo Jin declares that he’s not leaving. Dad declares that it’s only a month until the inauguration. Seo Jin snaps back that that’s why he *can’t* leave. SS Dad declares that Seo Jin can't be inaugurated in this condition. It’s not like Robin is vindictive or destructive… SS Dad wants Seo Jin to cancel the paid-in capital increase, too. Seo Jin declares that there's nothing wrong with him. And he calls his father, ‘Father,’ instead of ‘Dad.’ SS Father yells at Seo Jin, calling him a brat who said he can’t remember anything! Seo Jin looks less confident as he declares that he just fainted, it was just a fluke accident. SS Father makes a face.

HydeJekyll_031   HydeJekyll_034

Seo Jin declares that he’s different from five years ago, not the same person. SS Father knows how Seo Jin has lived for five years. He’s done his best. He’s raised the profit for Wonder Tower by 30%. He’s never missed an appointment for hypnotherapy and has done everything Dr. Kang told him to do. He’s lived shutting his eyes, ears and feelings off from the world and never once was I transformed into Robin. SS Father declares that if Seo Jin hadn't have done that, then he wouldn't be standing in front of me right now. What does that mean? That he’d be Robin or that he’d be unacceptable as a son if he hadn’t?

Seo Jin replies that he’s tried his hardest, in order to be able to stand in front of SS Father. He’s doing it now and will do so in the future. SS Father sighs and declares that he feels uneasy about Seo Jin. Seo Jin responds that SS Father’s uncertainty is what puts him in danger, makes him dangerous. SS Father chuckles, asking if Seo Jin’s threatening him. Seo Jin responds that it’s a warning. SS Father just needs to leave him alone. SS Father doesn’t like that answer. He declares that that bastard, Robin, is going to appear again. He accentuates it with finger pointing. SS Father leaves and Seo Jin tries hard to remain cold and composed.

Young Chan has been listening through the door. He bows to SS Father and goes back in to Seo Jin. SS Father tells Suk Won to watch Seo Jin well. If something happens, he knows what to do, right? Suk Won does. That’s great. Suk Won is working for Dad and spying on Seo Jin. Based on something earlier, it seems like Seo Jin knows that this is the arrangement, too. SS Father walks away and Suk Won looks uncomfortable.

HydeJekyll_036   HydeJekyll_037   HydeJekyll_039

Young Chan tells Seo Jin that he did well in front of the Chairman. He starts to tell Seo Jin ‘Fighting’ but Seo Jin cuts him off, declaring that attempting consolation is forbidden. Young Chan makes a face at his fist and leaves to obey Seo Jin’s order to bring the car.

Seo Jin arrives home and enters his atrium. Meaningful music plays. And I’m wondering if something’s going to happen. Is someone going to attack him? And why is it so foggy in there? Seo Jin stops and presses a hidden button to open a secret room. Two huge televisions and a huge monitor. Seo Jin pulls up footage of Robin rescuing a child from falling off a merry go round (2010/09/28). Day earlier (9/27), rescuing a woman about to fall down an escalator. 9/26, rescuing people trapped in an elevator. Seo Jin sighs, annoyed.

HydeJekyll_040   HydeJekyll_043   HydeJekyll_044

Seo Jin slides across his desk to the keyboard. He goes to a website (http:dimax.kr/xe_detail/sbc/hydejekyll/Blog/) that kicks out a ‘404 Forbidden Error.’ He clicks on the ‘F’ and it goes to a log in screen. (Username: ‘guseojin1’) That web address does lead somewhere, asking for log in credentials… Of course, the username doesn't work with the password he types. A screen giving Seo Jin the option to Send or Receive a message pops up. Seo Jin clicks, ‘Send.’ He looks into the camera. He tells it that
If you're watching this recording, it means that you've already returned. But, Robin, listen well. You remember, don't you? Our last incident, #19. The 19th protocol. There's no reason for you to exist now. I've changed. Now, I don't want you here. So if you're going to appear, go ahead. I'm going to make you disappear forever.
End of message. And if you really meant it, he would already be gone.

HydeJekyll_046   HydeJekyll_047

Seo Jin is meditating in that foggy atrium where birds are chirping. A man’s voice declares that when sadness overwhelms you and shakes up your mind and takes away precious things, speak to your heart. This too shall pass. Seo Jin repeats that this too shall pass. He fights breaking into tears. Wouldn’t psychotherapy be more useful in dealing with this, than meditation?

Fade to Ha Na, who is looking out the window, thinking.

Seo Jin continues to try to meditate and not cry.

HydeJekyll_049   HydeJekyll_048

Next day, a subdued Seo Jin walks by Wonder Land’s merry go round. Little girl has a balloon. I thought those were forbidden in Wonder Land now. Young Chan is filling Seo Jin in on what the police said. He’s concerned about Dr. Kang being missing. Young Chan tries to be Pollyana, declaring that, sometimes, clues pop up from the least expected places. Seo Jin is a Scrooge and declares that there's no place to find clues. The CCTV was off and there's no witness! He stops as he notices some of the circus performers, packing up their things. Cursing under his breath, he tells Young Chan to call the police and tell them that there is a witness, Ha Na.

Ha Na stands, fist clenched with determination. She declares that they need to fight again. Eun Chang is there. He thinks she’s being ridiculous, since they’ve already packed away everything. Ha Na is sure that Seo Jin will come again. Jin Joo arrives to declare that Seo Jin has been discharged. Ha Na isn’t pleased or surprised. He's going to clean everything while they're gone, huh? The ‘haves’ have speed, but the ‘have-nots’ have tenacity.

HydeJekyll_053   HydeJekyll_054

Detective Na arrives. He introduces himself: Na Moo Jin from the Gangnam Police District. He’s there for her witness statement. Ha Na replies that she’s heard, but she’s busy with life and death matters right now, so she’ll get back to him. He’s not deterred. He holds up a picture asks if she knows Dr. Kang. Ha Na says that she’s been worried about Dr. Kang, since she collapsed yesterday. Na tells her that Dr. Kang has disappeared.

HydeJekyll_056   HydeJekyll_059   HydeJekyll_058

Ha Na and Na head back to the crime scene. She’s describing what she saw. Na gets a phone call. He’s surprised by what he hears. After getting off the phone, he asks Ha Na what her relationship was to Dr. Kang. Ha Na replies that she already said that she didn't know her. Na tells her not to lie. Ha Na wants to know what he means. Na steps into Ha Na’s personal space and declares that she said that she’s never been there before. Dr. Kang’s call came in at 4:53 pm. The CCTV on the 10th floor had been turned off 30 minutes earlier. There's no way for anyone to know who entered and exited out of Kang's office. But there is footage from the ground floor of who entered and exited during that time and she’s not in it. How did she get in here!?

HydeJekyll_061   HydeJekyll_062   HydeJekyll_063

Seo Jin appears (surprise!) and declares that Ha Na arrived by a rope. Even though my subtitle translates it 'tightrope.' Not a tightrope. Not at all. Na looks at Seo Jin like he’s crazy. Seo Jin gives Na a look like he’s stupid. Doesn't Na know what a rope is? I have to laugh at that one. Na can’t believe what he’s hearing. He asks Ha Na what that means. Looking straight at Seo Jin, Ha Na declares that it must have been pretty bad for her to do that. Because of him, Executive Managing Director. Na’s still trying to wrap his head around how the rope figure in, but Seo Jin and Ha Na have started their own conversation. It would help Na if he knew that Ha Na was a circus performer.

HydeJekyll_065   HydeJekyll_066   HydeJekyll_067

Seo Jin asks why it was because of him. Ha Na replies that he ran away when she was trying to talk to him and blocked her from coming in the building. Na’s still trying to get his statement. Seo Jin replies that most people would quietly wait rather than slide a rope to come in. Ha Na ‘apologizes’ for the rope. She declares that they can just talk now. Seo Jin interrupts her and basically implies that she’s stupid for not grasping the situation. They’re here to give their statements about a missing person’s case. She needs to focus. His condescension is not lost on Ha Na. Way to be persausive, Seo Jin.

Na is still trying to grab control of the conversation back, but Seo Jin turns around, rips the crime tape off the door and enters Dr. Kang’s office. Ha Na breathes to control her temper and reminds herself that Dr. Kang’s safety is the most important. She heads into the office. Na yells after both of them. But it’s clear that he has no authority over events.

Ha Na illustrates how she climbed into the office through the window. Dr. Kang was lying on the floor. And then she felt someone walk up behind her. Na tries to get more specifics, but Ha Na can’t remember what he looked like. Frustrated Seo Jin and Detective Na.

HydeJekyll_081

Off to the doctor, who declares that Ha Na has temporary memory loss. Seo Jin rolls his eyes and declares that it’s such a cliché. An amnesic. Score one for the writers. Thank you, because it *is* such a k-drama cliche! Although in this situation, trauma can cause temporary memory loss as the mind represses it to deal with the trauma. I mean, the guy tried to strangle her. That’s pretty traumatic. Ha Na asks if she’ll ever be able to remember. Seo Jin interrupts to declare that it’s PTSD (defined for the audience, of course). Doctor ‘agrees’ and says that the memories should come back, but it varies from person to person. In rare cases, they never remember. Seo Jin sighs, frustrated.

As they leave the doctor’s office, Seo Jin asks Ha Na if it’s true that she really doesn't remember? Why is it, out of everything, she can't remember the most important thing, the culprit's face? Detective Na interjects that Ha Na said that he was wearing a mask. Seo Jin points out that it means that she saw MIB up close. Can she really not remember? She’s not just saying that to screw him? She asks why it would screw him. He replies that it’s because it’s something important to him. Ha Na retorts that this is great, then, since she unintentionally screwed him. She doesn’t smile, though. I would have smiled smugly.

Seo Jin tells Na to arrange hypnotherapy for Ha Na. Na replies that there is someone who is a student of Dr. Kang's who does hypnosis. That sounds good to Seo Jin. Ha Na tells them to hold on. Why does she have to do that? Seo Jin replies that it’s because a person is missing and she’s a witness. And we need to finally see Sung Joon! I almost forgot that he was in this, because we haven’t seen him yet. At least, if he’s acting as her doctor, he won’t be a love interest. She asks him if it’s important thing to him. Yeah. And he needs her? Yeah. Really needs her? Yeah. Then, she won't do it. She can't. Seo Jin can’t believe she’s refusing. Why can’t she do it? Ha Na replies that it’s because of how Seo Jin’s asking. In cases like this, people normally request courteously a favor, saying, “Please help me with this. Please cooperate.” Or, they say, “If you help, I will return your kindness.” Ha Na says that there’s even a way for him to repay her, but he must not be so smart. She turns and walks away. Seo Jin winces and groans inwardly.

HydeJekyll_088   HydeJekyll_089

Conference room. Seo Jin shoves a tablet in Ha Na’s direction and orders her to sign it. She responds by telling him to apologize first. Apologize for unilaterally canceling the contract. He’s so convincing as he mumbles that he apologizes. And this is why I like her: because she has spunk and doesn’t put up with being treated like trash. She asks him if he’s kidding? Not a soulless apology like that. Seo Jin sighs and accentuates every syllable of I. Am. Sorry. Is she satisfied? He tells her to sign it again. She responds by reading the contract.

HydeJekyll_093

Ha Na writes on the tablet and slides it across the table to Seo Jin. It’s not her signature. She’s crossed out the 2-year renewal and written 10 years instead. Seo Jin thinks she’s crazy. He erases the 10 and writes in 3. She’s not budging. He writes 4 years. She responds with 10 years. And she’s got you, dude. She adds that he can go sh*t himself if he’s too scared to do it. Seo Jin knows he’s beaten. He pleasantly says that they should do ten years. Ha Na starts to explain that she’s planning on changing the acts. Seo Jin interrupts her with a “Let's do that.”

Ha Na calls him on his rudeness: Look here, Managing Director. Is only your work important to you, and other people's work as is poop? He sighs and controls himself, so that he’s pleasant. He points out that the details should be presented to the entire management team. Explaining it right now is a bit too much. It’s not necessary to go into all the details right now. Ha Na nods in concession.

HydeJekyll_097   HydeJekyll_098

Seo Jin says they should head on over to the hypnotherapist. Ha Na stands and considers his face. He asks her if there is anything left that she needs covered. She tells him that it *was* him, the person who saved her yesterday. He starts to deny it but stops when she steps closer to him. He actually looks a little uncomfortable. She tells him ‘thank you,’ adding that that’s how you apologize, putting your soul into it. She starts to go but stops and asks him if the pendant has always belonged to him. He asks why she wants to know. She doesn’t explain, just responds that it must be a coincidence. Then she leaves.

Seo Jin quickly follows her into the elevator. He wants to know what she’s talking about. What does she mean a coincidence? *What* is a coincidence? She shakes her head and says that it’s nothing. She was just going to confirm something. Seo Jin wants to know what. She tells him to forget it. Seo Jin shoots back, asking why she keeps asking questions. Whether the necklace is his or not, if he saved her or not. She asks again if he saved her. What if he did? But he said he didn't. What if he did?! Boy, she really gets under his skin…

HydeJekyll_103   HydeJekyll_106   HydeJekyll_107

Seo Jin grabs Ha Na by the arms and shoves her against the elevator wall. What’s with getting violent? I understand he’s frustrated and upset, but still… Ha Na looks, understandably, startled. He asks, “What are you? From the time you first appeared... What are you?! She asks him, “What about me?” There’s a chirping and Seo Jin starts to gasp. He lets her go and is able to recover.

Riding in Seo Jin’s car, she notices all the religious items: prayer beads and Bible. A cross on the mantle. She tells Seo Jin that he must have deep faith, in many religions, even hypnosis. Ha Na declares that she doesn’t believe in hypnosis. She’s only do it because Dr. Kang’s life is on the life, but it might not go well, so Seo Jin shouldn’t expect too much. Straightfaced, Seo Jin asks Ha Na is she believes in cars? Planes? Ships? Hand phones? Declares that hypnosis is not a religion. He looks out the windows as he says that the problem is not whether you believe in it or not. And we know that he’s thinking about all his hypnosis and how it hasn’t gotten rid of Robin.

HydeJekyll_111   HydeJekyll_112   HydeJekyll_113

Ha Na asks if Seo Jin knows much about hypnosis. She says that she’s learned how to do it too. This gets the attention of everyone in the car. Seo Jin just looks at her. She takes off her necklace and tells him starts dangling it in Seo Jin’s face. She declares that from now on, he will be hypnotized. She pulls a coin out from behind his ear and tells him that on the count of three, he’ll be able to bend it. Seo Jin rolls his eyes as he takes the coin and asks what she’s trying to accomplish with her trick coin. Ha Na declares that this is a Las Vegas-style hypnosis. ‘Mental Magic.’ Young Chan chuckles to himself. Seo Jin rolls his eyes again and says that that is not hypnosis. Hypnosis is science.

HydeJekyll_114   HydeJekyll_115   HydeJekyll_116

It’s Ha Na’s turn to roll her eyes and replies, "Science, my ass." It’s always about past-life experiences and all that. Seo Jin replies that that type of thing is from a trance, a hallucination from altered consciousness. Hypnosis, on the other hand, is neither hallucinating nor falling asleep. It's between being asleep and being awake. Because electromyography shows naturally functioning brainwaves. Ha Na wants to know how he knows all that stuff. Dr. Kang taught him. Seo Jin tells Ha Na to listen well. Hypnosis is neither illusion nor experiencing past lives. Even moreso, it is not a joke. She tells him to stop being so serious. She’s already feeling nervous enough as it is.

They arrive. The hypnotist’s office number is 1310. Ha Na gets out of the car and looks up at the skyscrapers. Seo Jin rolls down his window and gets her attention. He tells her not to forget the culprit's composite sketch when she comes out. Then he rolls up the window (without saying goodbye) and drives off. Ha Na makes a face at him and mutters to herself not having a composite sketch unless he left it with her. She goes inside.

HydeJekyll_122   HydeJekyll_123   HydeJekyll_124

Ha Na enters the elevator Finally! Sung Joon! Yoon Tae Joo (Sung Joon) just happens to be on the elevator. And he’s doing something completely normal: looking at his phone. She reaches over to press the floor, but 13 is already lit. I’m surprised that there’s a 13th floor, but then, again, 13 isn’t unlucky in Korea. The number 4 is unlucky instead (because it closely resembles the word ‘death’). Ha Na waits for the elevator doors to close. And doesn’t observe proper elevator etiquette by moving to the left side of the elevator.

Tae Joo looks at his phone the entire ride – although it’s quick. At the 13th floor, he exits the elevator first and turns around and tells Ha Na that she should get off the elevator. She’s surprised, but he introduces himself and identifies her. She’s surprised again and asks how he knew it was her.

HydeJekyll_125   HydeJekyll_127   HydeJekyll_130

Tae Joo’s office. Ha Na stares at a really weird picture. Tae Joo brings a tray with tea. She guesses that he identified her by her fingernails. What an off thing to identify someone by. Holding out her hands, Ha Na reasons that her unmanicured fingers indicate that she does physical labor. She crosses her legs as if to display them and decides that he must have felt certain when he saw her legs. She mentions a quote by Kim Yoon Suk in ‘Thieves:’ “You tightrope walk, don't you?” Did he hear from Detective Na that she walks a tightrope? Tae Joo smiles and says that he got a message from Detective Na. It’s the message he was reading on his phone when Ha Na entered the elevator, which told him that Ms. Jang Ha Na has arrived.

Ha Na asks why Tae Joo didn’t acknowledge her right away. Fiddling with the tea, Tae Joo mentions how she was surprised by his sudden request from earlier. Even though she was surprised, she probably also felt reassured, since it would show that “he does have an eye for people.” ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ starts playing again (it was playing as they reached the 13th floor). Tae Joo says that from now on, this song will be her signal to become hypnotized and it will be the signal for her to wake up. Oh, I have a bad feeling about this. MIB could discover the signal and put Ha Na in danger.

HydeJekyll_133   HydeJekyll_134   HydeJekyll_135

Tae Joo explains that trust is the key in hypnosis, so the moment she felt trust in him, they began awakening the hypnotic sensitivity with this song. And why would he pick *this* song. I mean, I like the song and this version is nice, but why this song? Tae Joo switches off the music and tries to reassure her. He says that this is no other way than this to find Dr. Kang right now.

Ha Na replies that she wants to help but she’s not sure if it will work. She admits that it feels fake and she’s skeptical that she’ll be hypnotized simply by hearing a song. He asks her to trust his skills and sense of desperation. She agrees to try and comments that the person who sent her there did seem desperate too.

Seo Jin is looking at Tae Joo’s resume while riding in the car. Sung Joon is just photogenic. And the man can model, too. But I’m digressing. Seo Jin comments that Tae Joo is young. He asks Young Chan if Tae Joo is any good. Young Chan answers that Tae Joo is quite famous in academia. Of course he is, because he can’t just be average. He has to be extraordinary. He’s a Johns Hopkins graduate and a doctor of psychology. Plus, he’s Dr. Kang’s most prized former pupil. Seo Jin wonders if Tae Joo would know about the treatment that Dr. Kang called him about. Young Chan answers that he tried to fish around for that information, but it seems like he doesn't know anything about it. Seo Jin sighs at this answer. He notices the magic coin in the seat beside him. He picks it up and then gets a phone call.

HydeJekyll_139   HydeJekyll_140   HydeJekyll_141

It’s Father. Not wearing his SS jacket today. His eyebrows are still crazy. He’s waiting for Seo Jin in Seo Jin’s office. He’s brought with him a plane ticket. Father commands Seo Jin to stay away for a while. Seo Jin starts to argue but Father declares that, as he said, nothing has happened for the past five years. But he’s appeared again and they’re clueless as to who he’s meeting and what he’s doing. And once he shows up, he *keeps* appearing once he emerges. Father tells him to leave, while he can still leave with his own feet.

HydeJekyll_142   HydeJekyll_144   HydeJekyll_146

Seo Jin says that he can find Dr. Kang. Er, the police will find her, with your help… He tells Father that there’s a witness. Father starts to argue but Seo Jin cuts him off, tell Father that he went to see Dr. Kang because she’d found a method to treat him. She said that this time it wasn't dangerous, that she had found a perfect treatment. She said that he would be free. Seo Jin looks a little emotional – in the eyes. The rest of him is super controlled. Seo Jin declares that he will find Dr. Kang. If he finds her and the treatment does not work, then he won’t come back. Father sighs, having to agree to this logic.

Back in Tae Joo’s office, he and Ha Na are doing Cat’s Cradle with string. I loved doing that stuff when I was a kid. He asks Ha Na some very innocuous questions, one right after another. He asks her the date: January 22. And yesterday? January 21st. January 21st, yesterday, where was Ha Na? Ha Na falters as she answers that she was in Dr. Kang's research office. Tae Joo flips on the music and quickly says, “January 21st, 4:40 pm, it's the scene where you are going into the office. 1, 2, 3. Bring it to mind.” He snaps his fingers and Ha Na sinks into a hypnotic trance.

Flashback to Dr. Kang’s office. Tae Joo asks Ha Na how Dr. Kang is. She replies that Dr. Kang is unconscious and there’s blood on her head. She mentions that there’s someone behind her. Ha Na’s fists clench. Tae Joo instructs Ha Na to slowly turn around. We get to see that the man in the mask is wearing glasses. Ha Na screams and grabs at her throat, reliving the memory of him strangling her. Ha Na tells Tae Joo that MIB covered her mouth and was strangling her. She remembers reaching behind her, grabbing some scissors and stabbing him with them. That’s how she was able to get away.

HydeJekyll_161   HydeJekyll_162   HydeJekyll_163

Now he’s chasing her. Missing the elevator. Remembering MIB grabbing her after she fell onto the floor. Reliving being strangled on the roof. Ha Na speaks as though she can’t breathe. It’s interesting that he doesn’t tell her that the memory can’t hurt her, to observe it like it’s happening to someone else. That's what they usually do on television. Ha Na gasps that she feels like she could die. This snaps Tae Joo out of his quest for her memories so he can find his mentor. He tells Ha Na that she’s okay and now the song will play and on the count of three you will wake up. Ha Na starts to remember grabbing the mask off MIB as he strangled her but before she can see his face, Tae Joo says, “1, 2, 3. Open your eyes.” She wakes from her trance. And it’s interesting that he didn’t tell her that when she wakes up, she’ll remember everything.

HydeJekyll_164   HydeJekyll_166   HydeJekyll_167

Now awake, Ha Na gasps for breath and says that she remembered. Tae Joo tells her that she did great. MIB was wearing a mask, a hat and eye glasses. Ha Na gasps that she saw MIB’s face. Tae Joo’s shocked. And his reaction dispels any thoughts I had about MIB being Tae Joo. He’s too surprised and eager to know, not wary like he’s covering his tracks. Ha Na gasps that she ripped MIB’s mask off. But, of course, she can’t remember what he looked like.

Young Chan delivers the news (including that she doesn't exactly remember the face yet). Seo Jin is ecstatic – in his restrained way. Seo Jin revels in the knowledge that she’ll be able to give a clear description of the kidnapper, but then realizes that MIB knows that Ha Na saw his face, which means that Ha Na is in danger. He asks where Ha Na is.

Ha Na is riding in the car with Detective Na, silently crying. Flashback to her session with Tae Joo. Gently he tells her that because she was scared, it was instinct for her to erase the moment she almost died. She has to get rid of fear first. When that happens, she will remember.

MIB’s face is hidden. He has a flyer for tonight's Venetian Room Event. He flicks a lighter open and shut. Ha Na and Na arrive. MIB hides behind a pillar and watches Ha Na enter Wonder Land. He burns the flyer and heads in after Ha Na. Inside the park, Ha Na sees a man in a cap with glasses, looking down. She’s wary until she sees his face. It’s not him. She starts to walk again. MIB follows her. Ha Na feels like he’s behind her – although she doesn’t look – so she walks faster. MIB almost catches her, but then Seo Jin and Young Chan arrive.

HydeJekyll_181   HydeJekyll_182

Ha Na’s not paying attention, so she walks right into Seo Jin. She yelps, startled. He asks her what’s wrong. They look in the direction that Ha Na came from and Seo Jin repeats his question: “What is it?” Ha Na replies that she felt like someone was following her. Immediately Seo Jin grabs her arm and pulls her protectively behind him. Quite a difference from the gorilla incident. But, then, Seo Jin needs something from Ha Na and her getting hurt won’t make that happen. He orders Young Chan to call the security team and tell them to check if there are any suspicious people around. Young Chan heads off.

Seo Jin tells Ha Na to come with him. She wants to know where, since she has to prepare for tonight’s even. Wrist grab. She asks where they’re going and Seo Jin replies “Weren’t you going to the circus?” He’s funny.

Outside of the circus tent, there are six guard posted. Hee Bong wants to know what’s going on, since the contract was renewed. Jin Joo and Eun Chang are also not happy.

HydeJekyll_185   HydeJekyll_184   HydeJekyll_186

Inside, Seo Jin is explaining that she’s going to be under guard 24 hours a day. He calls it a “witness protection program.” In English, no less. Protecting the witness. She tells him that he’s over-reacting. Seo Jin asks if wasn’t her who overreacted a while ago? She said that she felt someone following her. She nods, acceding his point. He asks where she lives. Gyeonggi-do. Seo Jin disagrees. It's too far.

HydeJekyll_188   HydeJekyll_190   HydeJekyll_191

Cut to Seo Jin to a fancy hotel suite, with remote electrical curtains. He opens them to show the park. Ha Na likes the view. Also, remote lights. She asks what he wants her to do. He tells her to choose: you there or take the security team to her house. She thinks it’s too fancy. Seo Jin holds up the key card and says that no one would be able to come up there without it since it's a penthouse. A penthouse. A huge luxurious penthouse. He tosses the card on the table.

Ha Na’s face says she has a question. When Seo Jin asks, she mentioned the night event in the Venetian room. Immediately, Seo Jin utters his favorite word: Prohibited. What about the performance training? Of course, prohibited. Ha Na declares that if performances are not allowed then she can't do that. Seo Jin looks at her like she’s dull. She can't do it? Seo Jin steps closer to her and ominously declares that Dr. Kang might be missing now, but they may find Dr. Kang dead and at that point, she becomes the witness to murder. Does she understand that completely? Ha Na nods that she does.

HydeJekyll_198   HydeJekyll_196   HydeJekyll_199

Seo Jin tells her that the sooner she remembers, the better, if she knows what’s good for her. Not menacing at all. Seo Jin turns to leave, but Ha Na reminds him that he was there, too, and he abandoned her on her own and ran away. The one who made her the sole witness is Seo Jin. He stops doesn’t turn around to look at her as she speaks. She goes on that he made her go into the horror of her memory out of his own need and not once did he ask if she was very shocked or even offered one word of comfort. He turns around and dispassionately replies that this is why he’s saying that he will be protecting her now.

Ha Na declares that, if Seo Jin does it like this, whether it’s for protection or confinement, she won't be able to stay there. How can a person not know how to understand or be considerate to another? Seo Jin responds, asking why he should have to provide consideration or understanding. Did she forget that he’s her employer? If she wants to stay in Wonder Land, then she should do as her employer tells her to. If she won’t, then she can leave. His jaw is jutting out a little. He’s annoyed that someone’s challenging him.

HydeJekyll_203   HydeJekyll_204   HydeJekyll_205

Seo Jin turns to leave, thinking that he has had the last word. But no. Ha Na asks him if Wonder Land has belonged to him since birth. He rolls his eyes because this woman just won’t let him have the last word. It is now and it will be in the future. He turns and looks at her to make her point. She asks him, “Wonder Land, do you even like it?” Wonder Land has never been hers, nor will it ever be her, but she likes it. Does he want to know why? Because in this place are her memories and the entirety of her childhood. It's the stage that her father made and a place to perform. Leaving just because she’s told to? Is it that easy for him? Can he throw away all those memories and leave?

HydeJekyll_209   HydeJekyll_215   HydeJekyll_216

A memory of being in a haunted house and someone kidnapping him, covering his mouth and him being terrified. Without showing his pain, Seo Jin declares that yeah, he could throw them away. Whether it is a memory or childhood in Wonder Land, he has none of these. Does he like it? What is there to like? Is that a person? A woman? It's just a belonging. That's all it is. That's why, if it's so precious for her, she better stick to it before he gets rid of it. And he gets the last word and leaves. Ha Na looks like she wants to cry. She has had a hard day.

HydeJekyll_221   HydeJekyll_222   HydeJekyll_223

She’s not going to let him have the last word. She runs and catches the elevator. Seo Jin doesn’t say anything. Once the doors close, she tells him that what he said is right. She doesn't know how it happened, but he’s never saved her. Whether it was yesterday or before that. It was not a bastard like him. The person who saved her, he was a savior of people. The doors open and she leaves. Seo Jin is a little freaked. That person? Could it be, Robin? He quickly hurries after her.

HydeJekyll_226   HydeJekyll_228   HydeJekyll_230

Wrist grab. Seo Jin demands for her to explain. What does she mean, that person? Who is that person? Ha Na’s had enough of him. Ha Na asks why she would have to tell him that. He screams at her that he asked who it is! Like his requests *must* be fulfilled. He asks if the man, did he… look like him? Ha Na stifles a bitter smile as she replies that he didn’t look like Seo Jin. Not at all. She wrenches her wrist free from his grasp and walks off.

Seo Jin remembers about her asking about the necklace. The incident with the gorilla, which drove up his MSP. The moment in the elevator, which drove up his MSP. He tells himself that it can’t be because of her. Seo Jin runs after her. Even though she’s wearing a red checked jacket, he misses her. He remembers that there’s an event tonight and heads in that direction. Ominous, momentous music plays. The red balloons from his dream appear. He sees Ha Na and goes after her. She’s checking the event. The floating balloon and the shaking disco ball.

HydeJekyll_235   HydeJekyll_236   HydeJekyll_237

Seo Jin calls out Ha Na’s name to warn her, but as he tries to go rescue her, his MSP spikes and he can’t move (or breathe). Here comes Robin. MIB is in the rafters. The disco ball falls with Ha Na just watching it falling toward her. Robin rescues her again.

HydeJekyll_242   HydeJekyll_247   HydeJekyll_245

She opens her eyes and sees the necklace. Then she looks up into Robin’s smiling face (no glasses). He tells her that she’s really surprised, right? She says that she is and asks how he did that? Robin helps her sit up. He asks if she’s okay. She should see if she’s bleeding or hurt anywhere.

Robin inspects Ha Na for bleeding as she looks at him. He declares that it’s a relief. It looks like she’s not hurt. Even still, she should make sure she goes to the hospital. She might have pain later. Suk Won arrives and sees them. Immediately he realizes that it’s Robin. He uses his walkie to tell everyone to arm up and move to Venetian Room. Emergency. He pulls out his taser. Another guard pulls out a billie club.

HydeJekyll_252   HydeJekyll_253   HydeJekyll_257

Robin offers Ha Na a hand up and then sees Suk Won approaching. He apologizes to Ha Na, saying that it will become more bothersome if he’s there. Even still, she must go to the hospital. She must. Then he smiles and backs away. Ha Na looks in Suk Won’s direction and sees the taser. She looks back at Robin. She stands up and asks what’s wrong. Robin runs. Suk Won and the other guard chase him. And quickly lose him. Ha Na runs after them and sees Robin easily do a series of flips. It looks like Robin does parkour.

HydeJekyll_271   HydeJekyll_272   HydeJekyll_274

As Robin does his flips, he smiles, enjoying it. Ha Na is shocked. She asks herself if Seo Jin was a gymnast? She runs after Robin. The guards regroup. Ha Na follows where she thinks Robin went. Slowly, she opens the door of the roof of the building he escaped into. Robin is standing there, arms outstretched, drinking in the night arm. He says to himself, “I've come out again.” Episode closes with statement: “If there's someone else in me, I hope he's a better person than I am.”

Thoughts

I'm not quite sure where to begin. This episode did a good job of making me like Seo Jin, Ha Na, and Robin. And *finally,* Sung Joon! There wasn't enough of him at all. Which makes me wonder why he's playing second fiddle. But I then think that he's trying to really get a lot of experience, working with respected and successful actors. Which is smart and is going to contribute to his longevity. So I won't complain because I really love him.

It's an interesting set up: Robin the rescuer. Did he take him name from 'Winnie the Pooh' or 'Batman'? And the whole reason he exists is because of Ha Na. I still wonder why Seo Jin hates him so much. I can understand that it's that loss of control, but what's so terrible about Robin? He *rescues* people.

And what about crazy-eyebrows Dad? What is his deal? I mean, even though we've just met the parents, I don't like either of them. Dad seems more interested in protecting his company than caring about his son and Mom, she doesn't seem like she has a nurturing bone in her body. No wonder Seo Jin ended up with a multiple personality? But how did Ha Na end up hanging off a bridge? And why has Seo Jin held onto that necklace all this time, if it only comes out when Robin is around?

So who is MIB? Why did he attack Dr. Kang? I'm wondering if he's a patient, or the multiple of a mild-mannered patient that no one would suspect having a multiple, his violent personality ticked off that she discussed him in a book that she published. Or maybe the violent alter never emerged until the mild-man read her book. I guess we'll see.

It's interesting that subconsciously, Seo Jin is already protecting Ha Na, pulling her behind him when he's worried that MIB is after her. Of course, he'd say that it was because he needs her to find Dr. Kang, but it's still pretty telling.

Hyun Bin did a great job of making him sympathetic. Those glossy eyes! And how about that secret room? Does Young Chan know about it? Since the button's hidden and it seems like it's Seo Jin's lair? Or rather, the lair where they leave messages for each other...

Robin seems very sweet. The way he was so concerned over Ha Na being okay. He also seems to really enjoy life. Both are those qualities that Seo Jin seems like he could use. I wonder why Dr. Kang isn't trying to integrate Robin back into Seo Jin instead of just trying to eliminate him? Or maybe she is, but Seo Jin is determined to destroy Robin. Although, why *is* he so determined to destroy Robin?

Clever way for the writers to employ 2 k-drama clichés: amnesia and cohabitation. Oh, and the damsel in distress. Wonder what other twist to tropes that they’ll come up with… I guess it’s on to the next episode to find out.

  1. Wow...what a detailed recap! Did you get far with this drama? As much as I adore HyunBin I soldiered on but eventually gave up after episode 11 :(
