Wan Shik tells him to just do well. He’s hanging up. Wan Shik sighs and heads into Director’s office. Bunch of bruisers are there. Wan Shik tells them that Nan Gil is coming. Wow, I did not expect that double-cross. All the bruisers leave except for Bruiser.
Na Ri rides in the taxi. Does she really want to see her father? She arrives at the nursing home. Which looks like a hospital to me. She meets Seamy, who is so excited to see her (and a little emotional). Seamy says that she’s the one who called and tells Na Ri to hear about their relationship from Abeoji personally. Na Ri nods.
Na Ri comes face-to-face with Abeoji. And she's looking at a different picture this time. Oops. Seamy narrates that when Abeoji fell from the rooftop, he hurt his head and his memory isn’t that great. Abeoji walks by Na Ri, not recognizing her. Well, she needed a picture to remember what he looks like – and he looks pretty much the same – it’s only natural that he wouldn’t know what his grown-up daughter looks like. Seamy says that Abeoji hasn’t stepped foot out of the nursing home for five years and just worked as if he was dying. Am I supposed to feel sorry for him? I don’t.
Nan Gil arrives at Dada Finance. He pauses and enters the lounge. With purpose he heads for the room that all the bruisers are in. He thinks about how Na Ri told him that she loves him. He thinks that he never imagined even once, that he’d hear Hong Na Ri tell him she loves him. He tells her thank you. He goes through a door where Bruiser and company are. They immediately attack. Nan Gil is calm and ready.
Nan Gil brawling – and holding his own against them all. He thinks that he never imagined even once that he’d make Hong Na Ri cry. One of the guys smashes a bottle on Nan Gil’s head. He struggles to stay on his feet as blood pours from his head and thinks: “I'm sorry.”
Several buisers enter Director’s office, where Wan Shik, Bruiser and more bruisers are waiting. They report that they blocked everywhere except for the main entrance. Wan Shik tells them that no matter what Nan Gil takes out of there, he dies today. What! I guess he's totally turned to the dark side. And Nan Gil even called to warn him. Do they want to know what the legend of Go Nan Gil is? He smiles slightly and says that it doesn’t exist. He gives Bruiser a slight nod. Bruiser leaves to take care of things.
Men are going about their money laundering with Lawyer at the helm. Door opens and they are surprised. It’s Nan Gil. Lawyer yells at them to get him while he tries to make off with the ledger. Nan Gil takes Lawyer down with one punch. And I roll on the floor with laughter. That was awesome. Nan Gil takes the ledger as Lawyer protests. One of them breaks a chair over Nan Gil’s back, which only seems to make Nan Gil mad. Nan Gil takes the guy down quickly and Lawyer is shocked that Nan Gil could do that. Nan Gil leaves.
Lawyer calls Director to let him know that Nan Gil has the secret ledgers. This sinks in and Director asks where Wan Shik is. Wan Shik is on the phone with one of the men, who reports that Nan Gil burst in and attacked Lawyer. Wan Shik tells him men that Nan Gil isn’t coming there. Everyone head to the club in Cheongdam-dong, quickly! Oh, so it wasn’t a double cross, just good acting. Good boy.
Bruisers rush to the club. Wan Shik’s car arrives with Bruiser driving. Wan Shik sighs and gets in. He thinks back to Director telling him to be Dada Finance’s fall guy. He says to himself: Abeoji? Yeah, right. He tells Bruiser to turn the car around.
Abeoji is eating ramen. Seamy brings Na Ri in to see him. It appears that Abeoji’s eyesight is bad – permanently blurry from the accident. Seamy leaves them to have a good talk, as she tries not to cry. Abeoji looks like a caged rat – which he is, for leaving Oma and Na Ri to clean up his mess. Instead of hugging her or even greeting her – Abeoji asks why Na Ri came all the way there to find him. All she has to do is live her life, thinking he died.
Na Ri answers that Abeoji should have made sure that she couldn’t get in touch with him forever. I would have said something else. She’s being too nice. He chuckles and says that she takes after Oma in making spiteful remarks. Excuse me? She’s being nice to you. He motions for her to come closer, explaining that he can’t see very well. She comes and sits next to him. He gives and aigoo and says that she grew up to be so pretty. He deserves to die. He apologizes, twice.
Abeoji says that taking care of the elderly who are waiting to die… he’s living while reflecting on his life. She should forget about him and live her life. Um… Dada Finance? Did you really think they wouldn’t go after her? Na Ri says that she can’t forgive him for leaving and abandoning her and Oma. But, she thanks him for being alive. Abeoji sniffs.
Nan Gil staggers in the bus/train/subway station, heading to some lockers. He puts the ledger inside, panting, and leaves it there. Is Joon supposed to come find it? Because he doesn’t take the key/lock it. Now out on the street, Nan Gil grabs a pole to stay upright. He has one of his attacks and heavily bleeds as he leans.
Next morning, Na Ri is trying to call him, but only gets voicemail. She’s worried. Yeo Joo has stayed the night and asks if she’s okay. Yeo Joo wants to talk. She took her precious time to come there. She came knowing that she wouldn’t be welcomed. Then why did you come? Your logic… Na Ri tells her to stop talking. She has nothing to say to Yeo Joo right now and she doesn’t want to hear anything either. Yeo Joo sighs, annoyed, and says that they should stop. Why is she annoyed? She’s the one who has been horrible.
Yong Kyu is at the restaurant, whining/moaning because no one is answering their phones. He asks his phone what they want him to do?!! Small fit and then Yong Kyu puts out a sign saying that Hong Dumplings is closed for the day. And since he’s the only one there, he’s the one that does the signs? The crowd protests loudly that they’re closing at the last minute. They demand that he send out the boss. Now, that would not be happening in the US. Like they’re entitled to be served. Yong Kyu goes inside and asks how Boss could stab someone in the back like that. Why doesn’t he go get Na Ri? He declares that he’s going to have to demand recompense for mental damages.
Nan Gil is unconscious in an ambulance. Na Ri’s poem: Clouds like cotton candy. I love you. Wild flowers. I love you. Nan Gil slowly opens his eyes. Shiny sunshine in the lake, I love you. Pretty flower, I love you. Would you like to marry me? He’s having a hard time focusing/staying awake.
Prosecutors have moved against Dada Finance, taking evidence out in their blue boxes. Reporter says that in that Dada Finance was under suspicion of illegal lending services... and upon investigation, it was found to be using fake accounts for money laundering. The call center for Dada Finance worked as the liaison to its illegal gambling network. The police are searching for the whereabouts of Dada Finance's CEO, Kim Wan Shik. Aw, I’m disappointed that Wan Shik signed it.
Director is in a different office talking to Lawyer. He muses that dying must have been easier for that bastard Wan Shik than going to prison in his place. He even worked together with Nan Gil, even though he hated him so much. Brothers. Lawyer says that Wan Shik has been placed on the wanted list and is banned from leaving the country. Nan Gil was injured, so he’s searching for him at hospitals first. Director asks if Lawyer thinks that Nan Gil will just hand over something that he risked his life to get.
Director tells Lawyer to catch Wan Shik. And make him pay! Beat the crap out of him and it’ll make Nan Gil come on his own two feet. Who does he think his father is that he draws his knife on him? Not sure who refers to – Nan Gil or Wan Shik. He’ll be sure to pay him back.
Yong Kyu apologizes to the crowd and asks that they wait a little. He’s working hard to try and serve people at the outdoor stand. Duk Shim arrives. He tells her that Nan Gil, Joon and Han Yi didn’t show up and they’re not answering the phone. He’s steaming the remaining dumplings to give people at least something. Apparently, he’s giving the dumplings (three per person) away for free. Duk Shim starts to help.
After the customers are gone, Yong Kyu groans that he feels like dying. Duk Shim asks if Yong Kyu can’t make the dumplings. He says he can. Duk Shim tells him to make them, then. Na Ri enters and asks about Nan Gil. Yong Kyu asks if they’d been in such a situation if Nan Gil had shown up. He adds about Joon and Han Yi – they always move as a set. Na Ri heads to Nan Gil’s office. She notices Oma’s phone.
Flashback to Nan Gil telling her about ‘killing’ Abeoji. I didn’t notice the tear on his cheek the first time. She tries calling him again and gets no answer.
Robot Museum. Duk Bong is leaving. Yeo Joo appears and says that he must be heading to Seoul, since he’s carrying his car keys. She tells him to let her go with him. With a little aegyo going on. He responds by asking if she doesn’t know that she shouldn’t be approaching him so obviously. She stops her smile. She knows that he doesn’t feel that way, right? She practically yells back that she doesn’t either! She says that she came to see Na Ri and is going back to Seoul after only seeing Sunbae a few minutes.
Duk Bong gets on her for her increasingly informal speech! She makes a face at him. He asks why she came there, then. She smiles and says that it’s to give him an update. Nan Gil disappeared. Hong Dumplings is closed for the day. A bunch of people came because of the TV show but had to leave. Duk Bong asks about Na Ri. Yeo Joo wonders if she should say that it feels like Na Ri predicted that Nan Gil would disappear. Duk Bong wonders about that.
Na Ri sits, sadly waiting. It’s one of the producers, upset because the restaurant is closed. It’s making their show look bad!!! She screams at him to make the dumplings!!! He says that he will. After getting off the phone, he asks Na Ri what she’s going to do. He’s not sure what’s going on, but is Boss this irresponsible? Um, no. Is Boss an onion man? No matter how much he peels, he can never figure out Boss’s past. Na Ri says that Nan Gil will come back. Nan Gil will definitely come back.
Yeo Joo and Duk Bong are driving. She tells Duk Bong that she thought about why she came there when there’s no one who welcomes her. She supposes it’s because she wanted to apologize to Sunbae. But she failed. Or didn’t try. Just seeing Na Ri makes her not want to apologize anymore. Duk Bong tells her to figure out how she feels about Na Ri first: does she like Na Ri, hate her or are jealous of her. Yeo Joo is surprised that it’s possible that she could feel that many conflicting emotions toward a woman, at that.
Yeo Joo sighs and wonders where Nan Gil went. There’s a certain pitiful thing that guys do after they have a fight – cutting off contact. She shakes her head and tsks. Duk Bong responds that Nan Gil will come back right away. If he doesn’t, that means that something is really wrong. Go look for him!
Na Ri worries. She mentally tells Nan Gil to come back. If he just comes back, she’ll do everything he says. And tell him that he didn’t kill Abeoji.
In the hospital, Nan Gil opens his eyes. Aw, Joon and Han Yi are there. Joon and Han Yi are talking to Nan Gil’s doctor. They notice Nan Gil is awake and hurry over to him, to ask if he’s okay. Doctor leaves – instead of checking on the patient who just regained consciousness. Why haven’t they called Na Ri? Nan Gil asks about the ledgers. The Boys report that they moved them. That’s at least good news. Nan Gil asks why they are there. You are in the hospital.
Nan Gil starts to try to sit up and Han Yi protests that the doctors told him not to move. Nan Gil asks about the restaurant. They don’t answer. Nan Gil is ready to go. Han Yi protests with a ‘hyung’ and Nan Gil answers that he gets more sick if he’s away from Hong Dumplings.
Night. Na Ri is lying on the couch. She thinks of their time on vacation. She is also wearing her coat. Not sure why. She sits up and sighs. She checks her phone and there’s no message. When she goes to the restaurant, the Boys are working. Yong Kyu has just says that Boss says their filling is too bland. She yells at Yong Kyu for not telling her that Nan Gil has come back. Yong Kyu protests that Nan Gil purposely told them not to tell her. And plus he was really busy since they have to run the business tomorrow. The writers said that they’d press charges against the restaurant if they didn’t open tomorrow. How can they do that?
Na Ri heads into Nan Gil’s room. He’s sitting there in the dark and tries to hide when she comes in. She asks why it’s so dark and he tells her not to turn on the lights. He tells her to talk to Duk Bong about transferring ownership of the restaurant and the land with Duk Bong. He shoves a piece of paper at her – while still hiding behind the wall – and tells her to look at it, too.
Na Ri says that she’s going to turn on the lights. She cast a spell. She says that it says that if he came back, she’d do everything that he said. So she’s going to turn on the lights. She has something to tell him. Just say it already. He answers that he doesn’t want to. Don’t turn them on.
There's a pause and she says that she met Abeoji. This sinks in as she says that his belief was correct. Abeoji is alive. She’s saying that Abeoji is alive! He scrambles out from behind the wall to stand in front of her. So she gets a look at his beat-up face. He asks if she really met Abeoji. Where? How? He grabs her and asks if she’s sure. She instead asks what’s wrong with him? What did he do? What was he doing from last night until now?! He looks away – he forgot how he looked.
Very concerned, Na Ri asks how he ended up like that. Where was he and what was he doing?!! He tells her that he’s okay. She tells him not to say that he’s okay. She’s not okay. Why is he being like that to her? Is it because of her? Abeoji? Where was he and what was he doing?!! He wraps her in a big hug. She protests and he tells her to stay still. Don’t say anything. He apologizes and promises that he won’t ever do it again. He had something to take care of. He took care of it. It’s all been taken care of. Um, I think that’s a little too soon, since Director hasn’t been arrested yet. They hug for a long while.
Director stands in front of Chairman, his head bowed. Whoa! They were working together. That I did not see coming. Chairman is even more slimy than I thought. Chairman asks if Director isn’t planning on pushing his request back and stepping down secretly, is the Director? Director eyes get shifty and he says that one or two years isn’t really that much time. Why would he avoid that, Chairman? Even though you were totally trying to do that, making Wan Shik the fall guy. Chairman asks about his land. Director replies that because of the card that Nan Gil is holding this time has been handed over to the police, they can’t–
Chairman interrupts, asking since when has Director kept his cards in another man’s grasp. Director said that Nan Gil used to be his child. A father can do whatever he wants with his child. Wow, I didn’t think I could hate Chairman more. I was wrong. Send Nan Gil away, the old-fashioned way. What does that mean? Director replies that he’s getting it all prepared.
Nan Gil and Na Ri are now sitting on Nan Gil’s bed – with the lights on. He reaches up and touches her face – with his bandaged hand. He asks if she’s calmed down. Can he ask her about it now? She nods and looks at him. Did she really meet Abeoji? Where is he? Who told her? She replies that she’s certain it’s Abeoji. She really met him. She’s going to keep his whereabouts to herself for right now. The woman that was staying with Abeoji called her after seeing the TV show. Nan Gil processes this and sighs.
Na Ri adds that sometimes Seamy came to the restaurant at Abeoji’s request. So why didn’t she say anything to Nan Gil if she saw that he was taking care of the restaurant? Na Ri wonders how Seamy knew his contact information. Nan Gil wants to know why she went alone. Na Ri replies because they said to. It’s probably because they’re in hiding. Nan Gil tells to never go someplace alone if someone tells her to, from now on. And make sure she tells him.
Na Ri asks who’s worrying about whom right now. If something happens like this from now on, don’t even think of seeing her again. Sure, sure. But Nan Gil thinks she’s serious. Nan Gil looks sheepish and drops his head. She asks if he went to the hospital. He nods and grunts a yes. She says that she’s stopping there because he’s hurt. She wasn’t her usual self earlier. He should rest. And the words that he’s most scared of: ‘Let’s talk later.’
Nan Gil gives her a small, sad smile and tells her thank you. He starts to tear up as he says that he’s really thankful that Abeoji is alive. And I would have hugged him right then, but Na Ri doesn’t. Na Ri says that she told Abeoji that she was thankful that he was alive. Nan Gil smiles and tries not to cry. She smiles at him and announces that she’s leaving. He says her name and asks if she can’t stay by his side. He flaps over on the bed and weakly says that he’s a patient. She laughs – and so do I.
Abeoji is working. He stops to look at that picture of him and Na Ri, giggling with joy. Seamy smiles at such a warm and loving father-daughter relationship. She asks Abeoji if he pretended that he’s sick. Did Na Ri tell him to come home with her? Abeoji tells Seamy that she’s ridiculous. Why would Na Ri say something like that when they’ve met for the first time in 20 years? He’d be burdening her. Will the owner of the dumpling restaurant even come? He probably would if you answer the note that he left.
Seamy tells Abeoji that the guys from Dada Finance told her that Nan Gil was acting as Na Ri’s stepfather and that all the land is his. Abeoji yells at her to say something that makes sense! She protests that the Dada guys kept saying it every time they came. Abeoji protests that Nan Gil was on their side before. He can tell just from looking at the TV show. Why would he be working at the restaurant if Nan Gil was still working for Dada? Seamy thinks that’s a great reason to kick Nan Gil out, then.
Such a scary guy is with Abeoji’s daughter. The father should go to protect his daughter. She starts to get giddy and says that that would be so nice! Abeoji declares that he’s not going back. Of course he isn’t. Because he’s a selfish man. He… he’s committed a lot of sins. Seamy doesn’t quite buy it. And I really don't buy it.
Nan Gil and Na Ri are still sitting on his bed. I thought he was supposed to be resting. She tells him to lie down. Should she tell him a story so he can fall asleep? He says that that sounds nice. But doesn’t lie down. Na Ri says that a long, long time ago, a man called the Legendary Go Nan Gil lived. Nan Gil protests that that’s not a fairytale story. Na Ri ignores him and says that Nan Gil was a guy who never died even if he fought against a hundred men. Nan Gil sighs and says that he wants to rest. That’s why she’s telling you the story, silly.
Na Ri says that even still, his eye for things was different than others ever since he was little. He recognized a pretty woman named Hong Na Ri in one glance. He leans in and tells her that she’s showing off now. Na Ri – her voice a little scolding – says that even while he was dating Hong Na Ri, he still fought against one hundred guys every chance he got. Nan Gil sighs and says that he’s got it. He was wrong. He won't do it ever again.
She looks at him and tells him to promise, or she’s going to be even more vicious next time. It doesn't hurt? It hurts, doesn't it? Nan Gil replies a ‘no’ and says that he’s scared. He’s scared that she’ll be disappointed after she sees him like this. She replies that she’s scared, too, that he’ll be disappointed after he gets to know her better. I think he knows you pretty well. Nan Gil asks if she thinks there’s still something that he doesn’t know about her. Exactly. She tells him to close his eyes and stop talking back to her. She’s putting him to sleep right now. Nan Gil obeys. He sighs and says that even if she tries to tell him a vicious fairytale, it’s nice to hear Na Ri’s voice. She smiles and leans over to put her head on his shoulder. He leans over so his head rests on hers. They both close their eyes.
Next morning, Na Ri is leaving Nan Gil’s room when she comes across Yong Kyu. She tries to sputter an explanation that it’s not what it looks like, but Yong Kyu beams and skips off singing ‘dumplings!’ She quickly scurries away. He yells into Boss that he cleaned the knives. Joon and Han Yi arrive. He greets them with a ‘ni hao.’
Joon heads in to see Nan Gil, who is putting on his long coat. Joon shuts the door behind him and gives Nan Gil a manila envelope with copies of the ledger. Nan Gil looks at it and heads to see Duk Bong.
Duk Bong’s office. Duk Bong notes that it’s the first time Nan Gil has been there, isn’t it? Duk Bong says that he wouldn’t have come there as a client. Did he come to talk about the land? Nan Gil asks if Duk Bong doesn’t have anything to tell him about the land. Nan Gil says he doesn’t know if Duk Bong isn’t saying because he doesn’t have anything to say, but from now on, they should talk about the land just between the two of them. He passes Duk Bong the envelope, saying that it’s information regarding transactions between Greenland and Dada Finance. Dun, dun, dun! I guess Nan Gil knew about the connection between Director and Chairman already.
Duk Bong looks at the contents, growing more concerned. He sighs, shaking his head. He can’t believe it. He mutters that that Chairman has really caused a huge problem. Duk Bong asks if Nan Gil is warning him that he can’t sell the land to a household that’s done underhanded things like that? Nan Gil replies that it’s not a warning. It’s a threat. Why are you threatening him? Duk Bong replies that he’s not sure where Nan Gil got it, but he’s always lived like this, right? What is Nan Gil going to do if the threat doesn’t work? He’s suddenly curious.
Nan Gil loudly says that this is why Dada Finance is so obsessed over the land, even though he said that he would pay back the debt. Dada refused because of Duk Bong’s father. Doesn’t he know that Na Ri will be damaged by this, as well? Duk Bong nods and tells Nan Gil to talk to him after he gives him the original. He's still Na Ri’s neighborhood friend. Does Nan Gil distrust him that much? Nan Gil replies, telling Duk Bong to solve it with Chairman. And catch him so Chairman can’t run away by sea. Nan Gil leaves and Duk Bong calls Chairman.
He immediately starts: What’s this about Dada Finance. He’s been selling illegal goods, working with loan sharks, and now he's working with gangsters. Bravo to their family. Is there something else that he doesn't know about? Um, yes, Chairman’s order to kill Nan Gil. Chairman tells at him for calling him instead of talking face-to-face! Since they can tap phones and record conversations. Duk Bong sighs and says that he’ll just live alone. He’ll pack Duk Shim’s things and send her back to Seoul. Why punish Duk Shim? So they should not be family anymore. If that happens, what job are you going to have? He hangs up.
Reporter says that the whereabouts of the CEO of Dada Finance, Kim Wan Shik, are unknown. He is currently being investigated by police and suspected to be using borrowed-name bank accounts. The Prosecutor's Office has placed CEO Kim Wan Shik on the Wanted list and placed a travel prohibition on him. Dada Finance has also undergone a search and seizure, and today, the judicial team and related parties have been summoned by the prosecution. The Prosecutor's Office discovered numerous fake accounts and materials relating to illegal gambling sites...
It’s Wan Shik watching the report. He looks nervous. He turns off the TV. Bruiser is with him. Bruiser gets off the phone and reports that Director has the guys out looking for him and is tracking Wan Shik’s handphone. Wan Shik tells Bruiser not to talk on the phone too long. He’ll track burner phones, too. Bruiser asks if Wan Shik will be okay. It’s going to be hard to hold out for much longer.
Bruiser gets a phone call. It’s Go Nan Gil. Wan Shik answers. Nan Gil asks if Wan Shik made a decision. Wan Shik asks what he means. Nan Gil tells him to turn himself in. If Wan Shik drags it out much longer, Director could run away. Wan Shik points out that he helped Nan Gil with the ledgers. Nan Gil replies that he doesn’t think Wan Shik helped him. Wan Shik used him to get away from Director. He’s the one who put his life on the line to find it. He tells Wan Shik to call him when he makes a decision. I’m sure Nan Gil would give Wan Shik a job once Wan Shik gets out of prison. And Wan Shik could find a nice girl… Wan Shik looks like he’s about to cry.
Nan Gil returns to the restaurant.
Duk Shim stomps into Duk Bong’s office, with Soon Rye on her heels. She demands to know why Duk Bong is doing this all of a sudden! She is really upset. Why is he sending her home and telling her to live there as he pleases. Duk Bong asks Soon Rye is she isn’t going to send this girl away quietly. Cold! Duk Shim starts to beg: She’s living quietly. Please, Oppa. Duk Bong sighs and asks who’s her Oppa. They’re only half-siblings. Duk Shim looks like she slapped him.
Soon Rye’s face says that he’s gone too far. She yells at him, asking why he’s doing this?! He replies that, whether it’s Chairman or family or whatever, he’s going to cut them all off. Duk Shim protests that she can’t ever go back to that house! Her older brothers always get mad and fight and break things. She's really scared of being treated roughly by Mom and she hates it! If he’s going to send her there, she’ll just leave. Soon Rye says that she’ll take Duk Shim to her house for now and drags Duk Shim out. Duk Bong feels crappy.
Nan Gil is inspecting the dumpling stuffing that Joon and Han Yi have made. Thumbs up. Nan Gil says that he’s taking the day off and asks for Joon’s keys. They’re surprised. Nan Gil protests that he’s never had an accident! He orders Joon to hand over his keys and once Joon complies, he declares that he’ll use it safely and bring it back to him. He leaves. Yong Kyu acts like he’s the boss now but Joon and Han Yi completely ignore him.
Na Ri is looking at pictures of Paris. He comes in and she asks why he’s so dressed up. He tells her to change her clothes and come out. She asks about his working and he replies that they have somewhere to go. He adds that it’s a request. He says that it is childish, but he’s always doen everything that Na Ri’s asked him to. She said that she cast a spell where she’d do everything that he says. She just looks at him. Short smile, Nan Gil does a 180 and leaves.
Na Ri has changed into a skirt. For their date. Nan Gil hurries to open the car door for her. He chuckles. Na Ri stops and asks if he’s okay to drive. He nods that he is. She gets into the car. He gives her a hard time for putting on her seatbelt. She can't trust him? He was a really good driver back in the day. He can do everything now.
She asks where they’re going. He replies that he went to visit Omeoni early this morning. He told Omeoni that Na Ri met Abeoji and that he has something to tell Omeoni in the future, too. Na Ri’s curious what he’s going to say to Omeoni. Did he say his last goodbye to Oma or something? He asks why he would do that? He told Omeoni that he would come by more often.
Na Ri says that her stepfather is being so brave for the first time in a long time. Nan Gil responds that she found Abeoji so stop calling him stepfather. When she asks why, he gives her his Appa ‘huh-huh!’ She stops and wonders what he’s preparing. I wonder if he’s preparing to dissolve his marriage with Oma so they can date. Na Ri wonders if that’s his plan, too.
Nan Gil looks over at Na Ri, who is looking at the window. He says that at times like these, he gets really curious. What’s she thinking about? Is she in a good mood or a bad mood? He’s curious about all of it. He’s a little giddy. She looks at him and he says that he’s got it. He won’t get hurt. He promises. She doesn’t say anything.
Duk Shim’s room. He tells one of his men to unpack Duk Shim’s things and reorganize them, please. I knew he would cave. He really is her Oppa, after all. They need to find a new shrink. Phone call from Chairman. He doesn’t answer it.
Yeo Joo waits for the bus. She coughs several times and drinks some medicine. She starts to take a taxi when the bus arrives. She starts to hurry for the bus but Duk Bong calls. So instead of getting on the bus and then talking to Duk Bong… she hurries inside to answer the call. I guess it’s too loud out there. Even though she's about to get on the bus, which would be quieter. She coughs again and sniffs as she answers. And sounds sick. No use pretending, since he ‘doesn’t care’ that way. He tells her that she knows he paid for all the damages, right? She smiles and says that she’s thankful to him for it. She coughs. He tells her to pay it back.
Yeo Joo sighs and, still smiling, tells him that he may be from a rich family, but he sure is cheep. She asks for his account number. He asks what her schedule is like. Is he about to ask her out on a date? Sounding tired, she says that she just got back to Seoul, so she’s going to rest for the day. He tells her to come over for a minute. Is she supposed to rest on that 1.5 hour bus ride? Yeo Joo laughs and says that the person he wants to see (Na Ri) should come. Who there accepts her that she would go again? She coughs again.
Duk Bong asks if she caught a cold. She replies that it’s in its beginning stages. Duk Bong sighs and says that he had something to ask her, but she should rest if she’s got a cold. She asks if he’ll call it even for the property damage, if she does what he asks. Finally, a woman who is actually responsive when he says he has something to say to her. He says he’ll call it even if she doesn’t. So just take some medicine and rest. She asks what his request is. We don’t hear the answer.
Nan Gil and Na Ri stop at a rest stop. He gets them some coffee. He says that he used to sleep there, back when he was going around fighting all the time. ‘Rest Area.’ You feel relaxed just saying it out loud. I don’t, although I have taken several naps at them when traveling across country. He tells her to keep doing it. Don’t stop getting to know him for an hour a day. He says that it’s better that they know everything about each other rather than being scared that all of their past will get found out. She doesn’t say anything.
Nan Gil was smiling but her silence has made him nervous. He says that when someone with severe emotional ups and downs gets quiet, he’s losing his courage. She laughs. He takes a swig of coffee and winces because it’s hot. They laugh at him.

When he looks over at him, she – finally – gives him a smile. He says that \because she was always together with a certain someone, she must've skipped your classes to go play. There were a lot of times where he would try to match his time up with her and then not even be able to see her. She scolds him for bringing up their pasts.

He smiles and says that they should go and meet their Abeoji. Their? What is he up to? He starts to walk back to the car. Na Ri sighs. He opens the car door for her. She stops and asks what her stepfather is trying to do by meeting her real father. Is he going to sit down and fight over who has rights to ownership over her? Nan Gil asks if he should. Should he tell Abeoji that Na Ri’s his? Should he say that Abeoji left her 20 years ago, but he’s never left her even once? She can’t help but smile. She mutters that he really got all of his energy back. He smiles widely and closes the door after she gets in the car.
They’re driving. She admits that she really worried about how she should treat Abeoji. Nan Gil says that he heard all of her worries, too. She’s surprised. She looks at him and says that he’s lying. He chuckles and says they should ask Abeoji what he wants and then make a decision.
They arrive at the nursing home and park out front. Not in a parking space. Just out front. They get out of the car and Nan Gil is suddenly nervous. When she asks, he says that it’s nothing. But before they go in, he stops her and asks how he looks. Heh. She replies that he still looks like the Legendary Go Nan Gil. He sighs and sags. She asks why he’s nervous. He’s not a son-in-law going to greet Abeoji or something. Oh, my gosh, Na Ri. Get a clue. He totally plans on asking you to marry him. Na Ri says that a stepfather is still a father. He has all the responsibility, too. He blows air at her, not encouraged. She smiles at him and he groans as she pulls him to go inside.
Nan Gil nervously stands in front of Abeoji. Abeoji and Na Ri are sitting and Abeoji is almost glaring at him. Long pause. Abeoji calls Nan Gil ‘Ran Gil.’ Na Ri corrects Abeoji. Abeoji tells Nan Gil that his neck hurts. Sit down. Heh. Nan Gil bows and wordlessly sits. Abeoji asks what in the world did he eat that he got so tall. They didn’t used to have such a difference in height. Nan Gil fidgets. Na Ri announces that Nan Gil came to bring Abeoji home. Abeoji laughs at that idea. No way, man.
Abeoji says that if he goes home, he’ll get bitten to death by Director. Nan Gil says that Dada Finance will be taken care of soon. Abeoji asks what Nan Gil is talking about. He’s talking about Director (Bae Byung Woo). What is Nan Gil talking about? Nan Gil says that Director is the CEO of Dada. Not anymore. Wan Shik is. Abeoji is a little shocked that Director is the CEO of a financial group. He starts to yell at Nan Gil: what does he mean that that crappy conman bastard is the head of a financial group. What the heck?! He realizes he’s shouting and stops.
Abeoji says that he’s never leaving the nursing home. They should just be satisfied with living their lives, seeing each other every once and a while. But have you asked about the ‘loan’ that Dada says that Abeoji took out? Nan Gil and Na Ri look at each other. Abeoji notices and leans in. He asks Nan Gil what the relationship is between him and Na Ri. Nan Gil looks at Na Ri and looks down, sighing.
Yeo Joo has met with Duk Shim at a coffee house. She’s still coughing. She says that she’s looking at coming all this way to see Duk Shim while she’s sick as her paying back money. Duk Shim only sadly sighs. Yeo Joo announces that Duk Shim’s Oppa said that she should come home. Duk Shim basically doesn’t respond. Through gritted teeth, Yeo Joo says that Oppa said he doesn’t really know how Duk Shim feels since he’s a man. Duk Shim sadly sighs.
Yeo Joo’s done being patient. Ya! Is she ignoring her Unni’s words? She came all the way out there. She stops because Duk Shim doesn’t even react to that. Yeo Joo sighs and asks what Duk Shim’s problem is. She’ll become like Yeo Joo if she stays like that. This gets Duk Shim’s attention.
Yeo Joo says that Duk Shim will have no friends, covet things that are someone else’s, always have an empty heart, and be bored no matter what she does. You won’t even believe it when someone tells you that they like you. You’ll know that you’re pretty but wonder how long it will last. And Yeo Joo is getting more and more depressed as she talks. As Duk Shim does that, in the end… she’ll end up in a situation where she doesn’t even know herself. Duk Shim passes her some napkins because Yeo Joo has started to cry. Duk Shim asks if Yeo Joo came there to comfort her or to be comforted. Yeo Joo just dabs her eyes.
Duk Bong arrives. He asks what’s going on with the atmosphere. Duk Shim gets up and starts to leave but Duk Bong grabs her arm to stop her. She practically yells that she’s going to her part-time job. She can just come home after she’s done. She gives him a glare and leaves. Duk Bong looks puzzled by his sister’s weird behavior and sits. Yeo Joo chuckles at Duk Shim – with a look of affection. Hmm…
Duk Bong waves off Duk Shim and asks what’s up with Yeo Joo. She replies that she acted out a scenarios where she also had a dongsaeng that left home. Sure that that’s what she was doing. Yeo Joo proudly says that Duk Shim said that she’s going home. Duk Bong sighs. He says her name – and I almost thought he was going to tell her that he liked her, but instead – he says that he really wants to hold onto Na Ri. What should he do? Yeo Joo stops smiling. Because she’s really starting to like both of them.
He tells her to pretend that she didn’t just hear that. He’s not in a good place right now. She notes that it seems like he’s finally started to become competitive in this boring love triangle war. She smiles like she’s not bothered and tells him to take her home. She did what he asked and made Duk Shim go back home.
Nan Gil and Na Ri are driving home from their visit. She’s looking out the window again. He tries to read her expression. He reaches over and takes her hand for a moment. When she reacts with surprise, he takes his hand back. He says that they should go see Abeoji often. She looks at him and smiles a small smile.
Na Ri asks where they’re going. He says that she must be tired. They should go home. No response. He says that she’s tired, right? She snaps at him that he’s making her tired, asking if she’s tired. He makes a face and says, like he just thought of it, that they should get some popcorn and watch a movie. They should drink some coffee while eating cake. They should go to a street food stall– she interrupts, finishing his sentence, saying they should have a glass of Soju. Nan Gil goes back to listing off all the dates he’s wanted to take her on: They should eat unlimited refills on the fishcake soup.
Na Ri asks what is going on with him. He says, his grin really wide, that he’s doing things that normal men and women do. She gives him one of his ‘huh-huh’s and says that they’re not in the type of relationship to do things like that! He replies that it may sound like he’s showing it off, but he did– She finishes his sentence again: –Everything she asked. He replies that she seems to know it well.
She asks if he has a secret ledger. He’s surprised by that question. How did she know? But she’s not talking about the ledger he’s thinking of. She says that she’s recording a ledger of all the requests of hers that he’s fulfilled, why? Nan Gil clams up.
Duk Bong is working. Worker enters to announce Chairman’s arrival. Chairman tells Worker no to make a fuss and to stay out. Duk Bong is *not* happy to see Chairman. In fact, he’s pretty ticked off, which is pretty obvious from the force by which he walks over and sits down by Chairman. Chairman gives him a face. Duk Bong tells Chairman to just spit it out. Chairman declares that some problems may arise.
Duk Bong starts to protest that Chairman needs to give him details. Chairman yells that there are no details to tell! He stops when Duk Bong yells ‘Abeoji’ at him. Chairman says that he’s spending his own money. Duk Bong nods and say that he’s embezzling. Chairman says that recently Dada Finance asked him to loan them some money. Duk Bong scoffs. Collecting interest and money laundering… Chairman answers that he used it because he needed it for business. Duk Bong says that bribery… it’s possible to get a life sentence.
Chairman asks if a father should come all the way there to listen to such nonsense after hearing his son chew him out over the phone?! Duk Bong bites his tongue. Jaw clench. He sighs. He heard that Dada Finance is under a search and seizure warrant. And they’ve gotten proof. Did it get passed on? Chairman says that according to Director, there are no such stolen ledgers. Duk Bong protests that Chairman knows that there are! He pulls out the copies that Nan Gil gave him. Take a look!
Duk Bong tells Chairman that this isn’t recent. His connection with Dada Finance has been going on for a long time! Chairman looks at the copy of the ledgers. Duk Bong asks if Chairman knows how much *his* pride is hurt right now? He feels like he’s going to go insane right now! Chairman wants to know who gave Duk Bong the copy of the ledger. I throw my hands in the air in frustration. Chairman doesn’t even care that Duk Bong is hurt by this. Duk Bong looks at Chairman, horrified. Chairman yells that he has to know who it is, to be able to take care of him. Duk Bong looks like he wants to cry. He asks Chairman to please do as he says this time.
Na Ri and Nan Gil are walking together. They stop by a pretty outdoor Christmas tree. Couples are taking pictures together. They both want to take that picture, but neither one says anything. They stop and eat at a pojangmacha. Interesting CNN article on them.
Nan Gil says that this is all there is to do, that late at night. Na Ri says that it’s weird, not drinking at a pojangmacha. Nan Gil asks if work is going well. She asks what work he means. He mentions how she’s stuck in her room, wrestling with her laptop. She says that she’s just fooling around. Na Ri sighs and puts down her chopsticks. She says that she can’t pretend not to know anymore. She announces that when she was younger, she knew that Abeoji was planning to leave. He was with her a lot and smiles at her a lot. He bought her many presents. She liked it, but she felt uneasy. She realized after Abeoji left. She knew he was going to leave.
Na Ri sighs and asks if Nan Gil is going to leave her. Because he’s being nice and doing things with her. I shake my head. It’s because he can finally act like he likes her without feeling guilty about it. He looks at her and then, looking back at his food, he asks why he should. She asks what he’s been doing all day. He’s acting energetic and bright. He answers that he’s not pretending. He's always been bright and energetic. Internally, where no one could see it. She whines and asks why he’s acting like that.
Nan Gil sighs and says, to be honest, there is something that he’s been wary of telling her about. Na Ri looks worried as she asks what it is. He says that they met her real father. He wants to be a normal man in front of her now. Like she said, he wants to date, fall in love, get married and have kids. And I’m saying a big ‘aw!’ He says that they should date as a regular man and woman who can do everything. Everything?
♫ You are my man ♫
He smiles at her and waits for her answer.
♫ You are my soul ♫
Na Ri doesn’t say anything.
♫ With you ♫
♫ With me ♫
They head over to the Christmas tree and take selfies together.
♫ With you ♫
♫ With me ♫
♬ You’re my everything ♬
♬ I’m your everything ♬
♬ It’s our everything ♬
♬ My love ♬
They walk and he looks down at her hand but doesn’t take it.
♬ You are my everything. ♬
Nan Gil thinks: Hong Na Ri, you’re not answering.
Black van drives up and bruisers get out. They’ve found Wan Shik’s car. They break in to search it. He’s left his handphone. No memory chip in the blackbox. Lawyer goes in to where Director is eating. They said that they found Wan Shik. Er, Wan Shik’s *car.* Why would he leave it out in the open someplace near where he was hiding? He’s not that stupid. His handphone was in the car.
Director asks about Bruiser. Can Lawyer still not get a hold of him? Director tells Lawyer to go through all of Bruiser’s family and everything in his house! Director asks about the Prosecutor’s Office. Lawyer says that it’s serious. The computer might have been hacked. Director yells, asking if it can be cleaned up!!! Lawyer says that because there are documents from long ago, it’ll be difficult to do with just Wan Shik alone. He says that hiding for now would be best. Director slams his fist on the table. He says Nan Gil’s name like it’s a curse.
Na Ri is doctoring the cut on Nan Gil’s hand. She thanks him for going and seeing Abeoji, even though he’s not fully healed. He looks at her – and his face looks a little sulky. She asks to see the picture he took earlier. He obliges. She goes backward and sees the picture of when she was searching his office and trying to hack his computer. Hehe. She asks who that ugly person is. He says that she’s pretty. He looks at it all the time when he misses her. She demands that he erase them. He snatches his handphone back.
They fight over the phone and Nan Gil grabs her into a backhug. He says that they should start as a normal man and a normal woman who can do everything. Again, I wonder what he means by ‘everything.’ She smiles and agrees. She gave an answer. Smiley face. He apologizes for taking so long to get to that point.
They walk outside, holding hands. Nan Gil stops at the bottom step and tells her that it’s cold so she should go on in. What about the good night kiss? You’re dating now. Na Ri smiles and says that she will after she watches him go in. He replies that he’s going to watch her go in from there, though. She smiles and says that they should just stand there like that. He grins and says that she’s so childish. You know you love it. She smiles and says that the world of childishness has come back. Goofy smiling.
A car arrives. It’s Director. Rut-roh. Na Ri looks worried. Episode ends.
Thoughts
At least it didn’t end with her getting kidnapped or something. Things were feeling so happy, I was just waiting for something like that to happen. This is one episode where Na Ri let her fear override her logic. Nan Gil is acting happy and is being affectionate – like she wanted – and she worries that he’s planning on leaving, instead of wearing her logic hat and realizing that he’s trying to be a normal dating couple. He goes to meet her Abeoji, for Pete’s sake! Really dressed nicely to make a good impression. I wonder how he did answer Abeoji’s question, though. And what was with Abeoji’s reaction to hearing that Director is the Director? Conman?
I really hope that they didn’t actually find Wan Shik. I’m nervous for the boy.
And what does Director want? Most likely there to threaten Nan Gil. But at least Nan Gil’s panic disorder should be mostly fixed, since Abeoji isn’t dead. I hope Nan Gil doesn’t spill that bean with Director. I don’t think he will, since he’s good at keeping his mouth shut, but you never know.
And what a scumbag Chairman is. Poor Duk Bong, who feels responsible for cleaning up Chairman’s mess, because Chairman is his father. Like Director, Chairman is a professional liar, who will say whatever to get what he wants. Duk Bong’s look of horror when Chairman asked who gave him the copy of the ledger, because Chairman was going to bump that person off.
Positive developments on his dating front, though, although Duk Bong is oblivious to it. Yeo Joo really seems to be the right girl for him, after all, now that she’s becoming all introspective and everything. Plus, she likes his sister almost as much as he does.
Worried about what Director has planned for Nan Gil, since he’s been ordered to get rid of Nan Gil, the old-fashioned way. I think it will be harder than they think, since Nan Gil really took a beating and still was able to walk away.
I really wonder why Joon and Han Yi are so invested in getting rid of Dada. I wish they would give us a little back story for our Boys. And Yong Kyu needs to start romancing Duk Shim!
According to Stanford Medical, It's indeed the ONLY reason women in this country live 10 years more and weigh on average 19 kilos less than us.
