Duk Bong has stopped by the house. Inside, Na Ri asks where Nan Gil is. Wan Shik replies that Nan Gil wasn’t there when he arrived. She asks if Nan Gil knows that Wan Shik is there. Smoothly, Wan Shik asks if he really needs to give notice when he’s visiting a friend? He tells her not to be Nan Gil. She immediately replies that she’s there because it’s her house. Wan Shik’s phone starts ringing. It’s Nan Gil. He doesn’t take the call, which stresses Nan Gil out even more.
Wan Shik repeats that it’s dangerous for her to be near Go Nan Gil. He tells her to get herself together, settle her debts and leave peacefully. Na Ri’s phone rings. She immediately answers it and tells Nan Gil that it’s her. Trying to sound reassuring, Nan Gil says that he’s almost there. He asks that Na Ri give the phone to Wan Shik and get out. She agrees and holds the phone out to Wan Shik.
Outside, Duk Bong is trying to reach Na Ri but gets the busy message. He finally notices Wan Shik’s car.
Wan Shik hasn’t gotten on the phone. Nan Gil screams into his for Wan Shik to answer it. Take the call! Take the call!!! Wan Shik sneers: Why would I take this call? Wan Shik asks Na Ri why she would show up and make him a strange person? Calmly, with menace, he tells Na Ri to hang up the phone. She doesn’t so he screams at her to hang up the phone. In the taxi, Nan Gil flinches. And Na Ri looks scared, but she’s going to be brave anyway. Na Ri starts to leave. Wan Shik grabs her arm. Na Ri pulls her arm free, glares at him and leaves the restaurant. Wan Shik doesn’t chase her.
Last we left Yeo Joo, she was getting arrested. She’s sitting in the police station along with the rest of the blubbers. Her ‘partner’ has a tissue stuffed up his nose. She’s the only one not calling for Mommy. Her partner waggles his finger and tells her that she’s not going to get away with this. He’s got her pegged. He makes a call… to Duk Bong. His name in Duk Bong’s phone is ‘Match Maker.’
Duk Bong clears his throat and puts on an indifferent face as he answers. MM demands to know Duk Bong’s relationship with Yeo Joo. He starts to answer but stops and says that he just knows her… why? MM protests that he’s bloody. Duk Bong replies that MM is a crazy bastard. MM says that they were cursing at... um, gossiping about... No. They were worried about Duk Bong and Do Yeo Joo flipped over the table and broke the bottles. They’re in a bit of a mess right now. Yeo Joo is still pissed at what Duk Bong’s ‘friends’ were doing. Aw, she got arrested defending Duk Bong.
MM tells Lawyer Kwon Duk Bong that they are going to put Do Yeo Joo in jail. Duk Bong responds that if Yeo Joo goes to jail they (the ‘friends’) will be finished. Not as Duk Bong’s friends but done as it destitute. He tells MM to spread the word – clearly – if they don't want to lose all their money, don't touch Do Yeo Joo. MM declares that there is something going on. He calls Duk Bong a trash bastard and hangs up on Duk Bong. Duk Bong looks at his phone and wonders how the trash bastards are calling him trash.
Na Ri slowly leaves the restaurant, as if in a daze. Duk Bong sees her and gets her attention. When she walks over to him, he asks why she’s coming out of the restaurant at this hour? Families aren't supposed to be that close. She should forget that door from now on. She doesn’t say anything.
Nan Gil arrives. Significant silent look between Nan Gil and Na Ri. But no talking. He looks down, sorry, sighs and heads into the restaurant. Duk Bong wants to know what Na Ri was doing alone in the restaurant without the boss. She tells him that it’s getting late, so please go. She’s going to head into her house, but Duk Bong wants to know what’s going on. She just came out of the restaurant. And why is this vehicle there? She met with them without Go Nan Gil? What's going on? Na Ri snaps at him, asking what it is that he wants her to do?
Nan Gil enters the restaurant. Wan Shik is sitting, waiting for him. Mostly in the dark. He smiles smugly at Nan Gil and tells him to think of Joon and Han Yi. Nan Gil responds by kicking him out of the chair. Fight ensues and is quickly over, with Wan Shik on the ground and Nan Gil standing over him. He picks up Wan Shik’s phone, squats in front of Wan Shik and puts it in Wan Shik’s hand. Call them. Tell them to let his guys go.
Wan Shik drops the phone, defiantly. Doesn’t Nan Gil think that he would have prepared himself when he decided to come alone? Nan Gil smiles at how sad he is: You can't do anything without Director ordering him to? Wan Shik sighs and says that Nan Gil told him that he doesn’t live like he used to when he’s here and yet he’s throwing around his fist first. Defiantly, he tells Nan Gil that this is who he is, no matter how superior he acts. Get yourself together, Nan Gil. Nan Gil is just studying his face. Wan Shik asks if Nan Gil isn’t grateful that he still hasn’t told Na Ri that Nan Gil killed her father. Supposedly. This doesn’t get a reaction from Nan Gil.
Wan Shik’s boys are sitting on the side of the road, with their blinkers on. Why do they have their blinkers on? Joon looks stoic and ready to fight. Han Yi looks more freaked out.
Wan Shik is now sitting in a chair at one of the tables. This is why I think they really deep-down look at each other like brothers. They had their fight, just like the old days – with Nan Gil being much better as usual – and now they’re going to talk. Nan Gil has sat down on the table so that he’s facing Wan Shik. He asks Wan Shik what he’s planning on doing with the Boys. Wan Shik replies that this is why Nan Gil should just give up. If he doesn't, the people around him will get hurt. Nan Gil pulls out his phone and calls Director.
Director Bae! Getting Wan Shik to kidnap his boys, what is Director doing? Wan Shik cringes – and I don’t think that it’s for his own sake, but for Nan Gil’s, because he thinks Nan Gil is being foolhardy. Calmly, Director asks who Nan Gil thinks will be next. Nan Gil responds by says that he has Wan Shik with him. What should he do? What he knows –is it okay if Wan Shik knows it too? Hmm… this is new. What doesn’t Wan Shik know? Wan Shik looks up, surprised. Director indignantly asks if Nan Gil is threatening his own father? It must be something really good, for Director to be concerned.
Nan Gil replies by asking for Director to please return the boys. Director answers with: If I were to do that, why would I have taken them in the first place? Nan Gil replies that he's not sending Wan Shik back to Director either, then. As a regular citizen and a dumpling restaurant owner, he’ll report it to the police. The director of Dada Finance wouldn't go to the police over this, he thinks. That is a point. Director sighs and winces slightly. He tells Nan Gil to send Wan Shik back.
Nan Gil hangs up the phone and tells Wan Shik that Director has said to send Wan Shik back. Wan Shik exhales. Nan Gil leans in closer and says that even if Wan Shik is scared of him from now on, deal with him directly. And he should make his own choice. Don't get dragged around anymore. Wan Shik tries to look defiant, but can’t – because he knows he’s in a spot. He looks down.
Bruiser tells his caller that he understands. He tells Joon to get out. Joon is surprised. They dump Joon and Han Yi at the side of the road and leave. Joon is immediately concerned for Han Yi, patting him down to make sure he’s okay. Han Yi acts like this *wasn’t* a big deal. Aw, he was being all brave for himself, but worried about his dongsaeng.
Na Ri sadly starts to head inside the restaurant, but pauses.
Wan Shik leaves the restaurant. He gets in his car and drives away. Duk Bong has been sitting in his car. Annoyed, he heads in to confront Nan Gil. Nan Gil is on the phone, checking to make sure Joon and Han Yi are okay. Duk Bong demands that, if Nan Gil can't stop that guy from coming in and out of there, then cleanly take care of things once and for all! Don't let him keep meeting with Na Ri. Na Ri has returned to the restaurant and is eavesdropping. She hasn’t made her presence known and she’s listening to their conversation – hence, eavesdropping.
Duk Bong declares that Nan Gil said that this is Na Ri's land. So just hurry up and give it up. That's what's best for her! Nan Gil is just waiting for Duk Bong to finish. Duk Bong angrily asks if Nan Gil thought that it was easy for him to be Nan Gil’s lawyer. At least, for him, she’s the only one he looks at. Na Ri starts to go but Nan Gil’s answer stops her: Do you know how much I envy you for that? He also wants to only look at Hong Na Ri. But... This is the only thing he can do for her.
Nan Gil says that he wants to give the land to Hong Na Ri, because it's Omeoni’s land. Na Ri’s face is sad (and touched). Duk Bong exhales because he knows he can’t be indignantly mad anymore. He looks away from glaring at Nan Gil. Nan Gil says that he doesn't know he’s telling Duk Bong this. They can call it gratitude for Duk Bong becoming his lawyer for the lawsuit. Duk Bong laughs bitterly. Nan Gil’s even thankful.
♬ I am having one of those times ♬
Na Ri swallows, a lump in her throat, and leaves.
♬ Because I miss you, ♬
Nan Gil heads into the house, hands in his pockets. Na Ri is sitting at the counter.
♬ I feel like I'll go crazy ♬
He asks if she’s okay.
♬ And I want to run to you right away ♬
She answers that she is. He apologizes and says that it won't happen ever again.
♬ I can't forget ♬
She sighs and stands up. She asks what he’s going to do if it does? She starts to make some tea.
♬ I can't forget your warmth ♬
♬ Because it's you ♬
Nan Gil sighs and goes to stand next to her. He says that he’ll do it and tells her to sit down.
♬ Because it's you, I can't forget ♬
♬ That scent that was so warm ♬
They sit across from each other, at the counter, staring at their tea. He starts to say something about Duk Bong being his lawyer. She cuts him off, repeating what he said in the restaurant: Is something to be thankful for? He looks at her and asks if Duk Bong get really angry because of him? Still looking at her tea, she notes that it seems like he suddenly likes Duk Bong a lot. He should be neighborhood friends with Duk Bong, like she is.
She starts to pick up her tea, but ends up spilling some on herself. She winces because it’s hot. Nan Gil immediately hurries over to inspect her finger, worried.
♬ Then wherever it is, even to the ends of the earth, I'll surely go ♬
It hurts Na Ri because she knows how much he cares but feels like they can’t be together. He notes that it's already turned red.
♬ This is our foolish love ♬
He wants to go treat it, but she stops him. If someone saw, they'd think a five-year-old got hurt. At this rate, he'd even call 119. Taking her finger back, she says that she’s okay. She tells him to go and get some rest. He obeys. She continues to think about what he just told Duk Bong. She tells him to stop there a second. Not looking at him, she says that she’s going to live well from now on, so he shouldn’t worry about her. She looks at him and tells him not to feel sorry toward her either. He asks what she’s trying to say. She shakes her head and tells him that it’s nothing. She tells him to leave.
Morning. Police station. Duk Bong stops out front and gets out of his car. He does *not* park in a parking place. And yet he will not get a ticket or get towed, even though he’s illegally parked outside the police station. Once inside, he looks around until he finds Yeo Joo. He gives her a glare that also asks if she’s okay. She momentarily looks excited that he’s there but then bites her lip, because he looks mad, and looks away. He announces that he’s her attorney and asks the detective about what’s going on. Detective says that Yeo Joo has been charged with damage of property.
Hearing that, Yeo Joo indignantly stands and protests that everyone broke it together! Why is she the only one being detained and told to pay compensation? Duk Bong has been looking at the complaint. He calmly – with his lawyer thinking hat on – agrees and asks why Yeo Joo is the only one having to pay compensation. Yeo Joo nods. Detective says that several people said that they were attacked by her but that they had no intentions of reporting her. So they’re letting it go with monetary compensation for the property damage. Duk Bong looks over at Yeo Joo and she won’t look at him.
They leave the Police Station. Or rather he leaves first and she comes after him. Yeo Joo demands to know why he signed the complaint. She can't pay a single cent of it. He knows her family's circumstances, doesn’t he? He doesn’t answer – was that a little bit of awkwardness I detect? – but asks why she did it. She answers that his friends become inhumane after they drink a few glasses of alcohol. He sighs, annoyed. They probably talked about people, didn't they? She answers that this is what she’s saying. She got offended.
She sighs and declares that it’s all his fault. He wants to know what is. It hurt her feelings when he called her easy yesterday. It happened because she drank while she was in a bad mood. He answers that she was probably more hurt that he said that Na Ri was having a hard time, rather than because he said she’s easy. Right? She looks at him – and her face says that she’s hurt that he’d actually think that was the real reason.
Duk Bong asks if jealousy isn’t a really pathetic emotion? She doesn’t worry about other people, yet she’s competing all by herself. She can’t believe that he’s saying that she’s competing with Sunbae Na Ri? Why would she? He smiles and asks why she’s asking him when she should be asking herself. Annoyed, Yeo Joo climbs into his car. He mutters that everyone just gets in his car. He climbs in and looks at her, puzzled by her.
Yeo Joo says that they should go to the department store. Duk Bong answers that his car isn't a taxi. She replies that her clothes got ripped again because of his friends. And she lost her purse. He looks away – like boys do when they’re protesting but they know that they’re going to do it anyway. She tells him that he should change his style too. He confidently replies – and sounds like he’s talking to a child – that he has his own style. She smiles and says that she’s saying he should change into the style that Sunbae Na Ri likes. Sweetly, she holds out her hand and tells him to just hand over his card. She’ll change it for him. He looks at her hand – like he’s considering it.
Mandoo house. Na Ri has made breakfast. Nan Gil isn’t there. He’s breaking their agreement of being on time to breakfast. She heads over to the restaurant, but the back door is locked. She goes around front and the sign reads that they’re doing to-go orders inside today. Na Ri heads inside. The restaurant is of course, very busy. Yong Kyu isn’t there, but Nan Gil and the Boys are. Na Ri asks Han Yi and he suggests she help serve. She hurries to help and Nan Gil doesn’t look very pleased. He just doesn’t look too happy this morning to begin with.
Nan Gil comes out, thanks her for the help, but tells her to go. She asks if Yong Kyu quit. Nan Gil replies that he probably didn’t. But he doesn’t know and hasn’t heard from Yong Kyu. She asks why the back door is locked and why he didn’t come eat breakfast. She grumbles at him not keeping his word. He replies that he reconsidered. She was right, being so wise. She snaps at him, asking why he’s always forcing her to be wise? He tells her to just leave before he starts forcing her even worse. Heh.
Na Ri says that she decided to meet with Kwon Duk Bong after the store closed for the day. He answers that there's no need for her to tell him every single thing. Meet up with Duk Bong. She orders him to go, too. When he protests, she answers that he’s her family. He loves the land so much, Go Nan Gil. So they should solve the issue of it together.
They both start bussing the table again. He takes the stuff out of her hands.
At the department store, Duk Bong is letting Yeo Joo pick him new clothes. Considering what she’s wearing, I wouldn’t listen to her. He’s in a baggy sweater, ripped jeans, and boots. He does not like it. Heh.
Yeo Joo bursts out laughing. She declares that that's totally Go Nan Gil's style. Frowning, Duk Bong declares that he can't ever go around wearing something like this. She wonders if they should change his hairstyle too? He sighs, annoyed and goes in to change his clothes. He totally looks short dressed like that. Yeo Joo laughs some more. Then she stops and asks what she’s doing right now. In the dressing room, Duk Bong shakes his head. He’s a total Hong Dumplings Boss knockoff. What is he doing right now?
Outside of Hong Dumplings, Yong Kyu peers over the fence. Indignant, he can’t believe Boss didn’t call me even once. Should he demand compensation for emotional and physical damage? Duk Shim walks up and asks him what he’s doing, which startles him so much he falls off the rock he was standing on. She laughs at him. He gets up and declares that it's the aftereffects of something he went through yesterday. She rolls her eyes and tells him to stop playing hooky and hurry and come in. He sighs, kicking himself, and follows.
When Duk Shim sees Na Ri working, she demands to know if Na Ri is stealing her spot. Na Ri answers that she’s leaving. She greets Yong Kyu with a “You're here?” He grumbles at being so easily replaced. Na Ri leaves and Duk Shim follows her. Joon comes out with some food and asks if he’s there now. Han Yi also sees him and asks if he’s there. Yong Kyu barely nods. He looks over at Boss and Nan Gil head motions for him to go get changed. Yong Kyu can only obey.
Outside, Duk Shim holds out a thumb drive to Na Ri. It’s her apology letter. Na Ri says that she can seriously feel the generation gap. Proudly, Duk Shim goes back inside. At home, she looks at the file on Duk Shim’s computer. It’s pictures of Nan Gil by the lake, with a caption: I want to become the lake and be on the receiving end of that gaze just once. Do I have to be born again? Na Ri chuckles. And I think she gave Na Ri the wrong file. Or did she?
Nan Gil rides by harabeoji and greets him – back when he was wearing the plaid shirt and straw hat. More pictures from Duk Shim. Where did he get that bag? I think it suits him so well.Well, that was interesting.
Nan Gil riding his bike wearing his sweats and brown coat. He always goes slowly, then suddenly goes at full speed. It's an explosion of coolness!
Nan Gil wearing his checked coat by the greenhouse. They should make this my house. They should make him mine.
Nan Gil – in a different, long checked coat – staring up at Na Ri’s window. Honey is dripping from his eyes. Is there someone in the upstairs room?
For the reasons above, I locked Hong Na Ri in the storage room and caused the bicycle accident. I apologize.
Duk Shim gets a text from Na Ri, telling/ordering her to come to the playground. Duk Shim rolls her eyes, annoyed, but complies. They sit on the swings. Na Ri says that that wasn’t an apology. Duk Shim replies that it was a totally sincere apology letter. Na Ri sees right through her ruse. Duk Shim’s telling her to show it to Nan Gil, isn’t she? Duk Shim would like that.
Na Ri asks if Nan Gil is a good person. She would have gotten a feeling while she was taking pictures of him, wouldn't she? She’s asking if Go Nan Gil is a good person. Duk Shim says that Nan Gil is like the wind that blows sand. He's like the wind in May. Not too cold, not too hot. Na Ri smiles at that analogy. Duk Shim smiles to herself.
Na Ri asks why Duk Shim is living there instead of with her parents? Duk Shim stops smiling and stands up, nervous. Na Ri says that her Unni is talking to her. She tells Duk Shim not to move and then asks if something happened to her in Seoul. Duk Shim stomps over and kicks the frame of the swings and stomps off. Na Ri sighs.
Duk Shim is now working. Na Ri texts Nan Gil to come to the living room. Of course, he immediately goes. Duk Shim thinks that Na Ri’s going to show her apology and giddily squeezes the box she’s holding. Yong Kyu glares at her and gives her a hiss.
Duk Bong is sitting, disgustedly looking at the clothes he just bought. Chairman enters, carrying a golf club. He’s agitated, and when he reaches Duk Bong, he threatens Duk Bong with it. He acted as a lawyer for someone? He’s protecting the land that they’re going to take away from them? Looking away, Duk Bong asks how Chairman knew. Chairman – who I never realized is so short compared to Duk Bong – asks what's important about that. He calls Duk Bong a pathetic bastard!
Duk Bong tells Chairman to just let that land be a park. How much of a loss is Chairman facing that he’s acting like this? Chairman concealed that the orphanage was built on a site where explosives were buried, and children died because of it. Does Chairman really want to reveal that just for a little bit of money? He sighs and tells Chairman to listen to him this time. Please.
Chairman shakes his hand at Duk Bong. The statute of limitations has already passed, and it's been a long time since Duk Bong’s harabeoji passed away. There’s a sound of someone entering in the background. Chairman declares that he doesn't know anything. Who knows about it? Does Duk Bong have proof? Forcefully, Soon Rye declares that she knows about it. I thought that was her entering. Chairman turns around, surprised. Soon Rye confidently approaches him. She says that she’s the sole survivor of that fire at the orphanage. Chairman looks at Duk Bong and Duk Bong processes this news.
Na Ri is, indeed, showing Nan Gil Duk Shim’s ‘apology. I can’t believe it. Nan Gil asks if it’s okay for him to look at it. Na Ri replies that Duk Shim wanted her to show it to him, because it’s a confession. He protests that she’s just a student. Na Ri replies that Duk Shim is giving him a shy confession through pictures she secretly took of him, just like a student. Nan Gil sighs and looks as Na Ri leaves. Nan Gil notices something in one of the pictures – a picture we haven’t seen of Nan Gil with a woman looking at him. The woman who told him Na Ri’s father was dead.
Nan Gil pulls out the thumb drive and asks if he can take it when Na Ri returns with their tea. Does he want to store it like he stored the notes from Princess "Your Dumplings Are the Best"? Nan Gil protests that an elementary student gave that to him. He kept it because it was cute. It also made him think of himself when he was younger. He’s actually a little mad. He asks what she knows and says that he’s going to the restaurant.
Na Ri says that she thought a lot after she saw the pictures. She’s been with Nan Gil for a year. They’ve got pictures together, too. Nan Gil doesn’t look at her. And he looks like he’s pouting. Heh. She says that he looks like his mind is somewhere else. She’s going to say something important from this point on. He looks at her and says that he’s listening. She says that she reflected a lot as she was reading this letter of apology.
Even during the time when she didn't know him, he was living the same as he is now. "Let’s take care of this place." She realized that it wasn't easy for him to say that. Nan Gil smiles slightly and says it’s because Na Ri’s wise. She asks if *that’s* his new catchphrase. He replies that he should go. Na Ri declares that she’ll be wise for him. Now that she thinks about it, there are a lot of things that she doesn't know about Nan Gil, so she’s going to figure them out. She tells him to give her just an hour each day. They should try to figure out how he’s lived up until now and why he got his sickness. They’re family for the rest of their lives. They should get to know each other a little better. Nan Gil agrees.
Nan Gil starts to says that staying in the house is going to be stifling when Na Ri announces that she’s not just staying in the house. She’s thinking of dating Kwon Duk Bong that her stepfather passed down to him. Scolding, he tells her that she really goes back and forth between talking formally and informally. That's why her words get all twisted up. Heh. Na Ri smiles and shrugs. Oh well. That's what family is like. Nan Gil starts to leave, muttering that he didn't even support Duk Bong that much. He’s just telling her that she should go and ride a bike or something, since it's so stifling to be trapped inside the house all day.
In his office, Nan Gil is looking at that picture again. He decides on something and leaves.
Soon Rye is sitting with Chairman and Duk Bong in Duk Bong’s office. Chairman is glaring at Soon Rye and Soon Rye is not looking at him. Her face is stern. Duk Bong apologizes for telling her to investigate without knowing anything. Soon Rye replies, sadly, that she also didn't know. They both look sad for her. Chairman does not look sad. He declares that if she’s been working there for over 20 years, then they’re all family.
Soon Rye looks at him. He’s ‘serious.’ She asks – hurt – why they’re family. Chairman declares that this is something that both Duk Bong and he had no idea about. Whatever, dude. You are so lying. What is Soon Rye wanting them to do after all this time? Soon Rye calls him out: Chairman knew about it. Just leave that land alone.
Chairman stands and jabs Duk Bong in the chest, telling him to give Soon Rye some money. He leaves. Duk Bong sighs, burdened by his horrible father. He looks at Soon Rye and obviously hurting for her, he apologizes. Soon Rye stands and declares that she quits. Duk Bong asks her not to. It’s what Chairman wants. He tells her to stay and make Chairman suffer.
Na Ri is doing an internet search using Aver on panic disorder. It's actually Naver without the N. If you're not familiar with Naver, it's is the Korean search engine that accounts for over 70% of the search market in Korea. Na Ri gets a phone call from Weasel.
Duk Bong is pensively looking at his model of his construction project. He sadly sighs. He calls Na Ri and asks when she’s coming over. She forget that she agreed to come see him. She is, however, wearing a coat and has left the house. She says that she’ll come over with Nan Gil after the restaurant closes for the day. Duk Bong wants her to come over sooner, since he has something to tell her. Probably that he’s not going to be fighting for the land anymore.
Na Ri says that she’s going to see Weasel. He said he came with his lawyer. Duk Bong tells her to wait for him so that she has her lawyer there, too. Smart advice. She should have called Duk Bong about it already. Weasel has already shown that he is easily manipulated and not out for your best interest, Na Ri.
When he picks her up, he scolds her for waiting outside. She says that it’s not winter for her yet, so she’s not cold. I hear you, sister! Duk Bong smiles. She asks why he’s laughing and he comments that he wasn’t in a good mood but she makes him laugh. It's really fascinating. She asks why he was in a bad mood, but he ignores the question.
Nan Gil has headed back over to the Seamstress’s business. It is “closed due to personal reasons.” He writes a note:
This is Go Nan Gil, the person who runs Hong Dumplings. You came looking for Hong Dumplings before, right? I will be waiting for you to contact me.He sticks it in the door and leaves.
Bruiser enters Wan Shik’s office. Wan Shik is deep in thought. Bruiser uncomfortably says that Director told him to go through Wan Shik’s accounts. He references the kidnapping of the Boys and says that he thinks Nan Gil caused this. Wan Shik thinks back to what Nan Gil said to him:
You can't do anything if you don't have orders from Representative Bae? You should make your own choices for once, too. Stop being dragged around.Wan Shik mutters, asking who they think he is. He pulls out his phone and calls Lawyer. He tells Lawyer to give the phone to Weasel. What is he up to? Wan Shik directs Weasel to tell Na Ri everything about Abeoji. Weasel is surprised. Wan Shik declares that he’s not taking it easy on Go Nan Gil anymore. Even though Nan Gil had nothing to do with it.
Na Ri and Duk Bong arrive at the meeting. Weasel is surprised to see Duk Bong. Na Ri asks what’s going on and Lawyer declares that Weasel wants to lodge an appeal. Na Ri is, of course, surprised. I am not. He is a Weasel. Weasel hustles Na Ri away to talk to her alone. They sit and Na Ri declares that she’s going to do that trial anymore. She’ll solve it.
Weasel doesn’t waste time: Weasel declares that Go Nan Gil is the one who made her Abeoji turn out that way! Go Nan Gil killed Abeoji! This shakes Na Ri some. She thinks of what Nan Gil said: There's something that he’s hiding from her. He thinks he’ll lie to her some time in the future. So she can't be with him. In the flashback, his coat matches the one she’s wearing right now. Couples coats! Weasel declares that Na Ri can't be with that guy. File an appeal and end it.
Na Ri asks if Nan Gil killed someone, and everyone knows about it, then why is he here? Weasel protests that it's not just someone, it's Abeoji! She says that that’s why she’s asking. How is the person that killed Abeoji here? She’s shaken but she hasn’t lost her common sense. Good girl! Weasel protests that Dada Finance took care of it. He adds that Nan Gil also knows that he killed Abeoji.
Na Ri wants to know why Weasel is telling her now. Why didn't he tell here this when he came by last time? Weasel protests that Nan Gil was glaring a hole through him. How could he say it? Na Ri stands and orders Weasel to get up. Weasel is surprised. They’ll go together. Weasel asks where and Na Ri declares that she’ll have to meet with the people that covered for Go Nan Gil. The people who killed Abeoji and the ones who took care of it for him are accomplices. She needs to hear what happened. Weasel, of course, looked freaked, because she’s not supposed to do that.
Na Ri walks over to Duk Bong and says that she’s got something she needs to confirm with Weasel, so she’ll leave separately. She leaves with Weasel and Lawyer. Duk Bong decides to follow them. Good boy! And they are driving about 20 mph.
At Hong Dumplings, the Boys and Nan Gil are working. Yong Kyu asks where they’re going to be watching the show that they filmed. It’s airing today. Nan Gil asks how long Yong Kyu is going to beat around the bush when they talk. Nothing like that will ever happen again. Yong Kyu turns around to look at Nan Gil and says that they should all get together in the house and watch it, then. Nan Gil declares that they can’t. Yong Kyu replies that Boss has no say in this. He can ask the person who has the actual power. Na Ri.
Nan Gil ignores him. He asks Duk Shim if she wants to help him. Duk Shim eagerly scurries after him. They start setting up the outside dumpling stand. Yong Kyu sneaks around outside to eavesdrop. Nan Gil asks if she knows that he’s seen her apology letter. She does. He compliments her picture-taking ability but tells her to stop taking pictures of him in secret. Duk Shim whimpers. He says that she’s got a good heart. When you like someone, so you can do anything. But don't do it without the other person knowing. That just hurts you.
Duk Shim protests that she’s been doing it for over a year. He replies that he has a person like that for the rest of his life. Duk Shim asks if it makes sense for it to be for the rest of his life? Like she’s arguing for him not to like Na Ri. He says that it’s like that for him. Matter of factly because he knows that it’s like that for him and he’s accepted it. Since childhood, Duk Shim, so he’s not going to stop. Nan Gil adds that he’s saying this because he thinks of her as an adult now. She’s going to stop, right? She sadly nods and leaves. Yong Kyu scurries inside before she sees him eavesdropping.
Wan Shik walks down the hall with determination.
Na Ri is in with Director. She’s looking at that picture of Director with a frowning Nan Gil. He says that he took that picture when Nan Gil was in his third year of middle school. He knows Nan Gil down to the bones. And he sounds like he cares so much for Nan Gil. Psychopath. Wan Shik enters and Director tells Wan Shik to sit. Director says that Wan Shik was a witness on the day that Go Nan Gil killed Hong Sung Kyu. Wan Shik looks down, away from Na Ri’s eyes. That should give her a clue.
Duk Bong has arrived at Dada Finance. Bruiser 1 & 2 come out and ask what he wants. He answers that his client is there right now.
Na Ri asks why, if Nan Gil killed someone, why wasn't he punished? Director says that they wrapped it up as a suicide due to debt. The woman that lived with him agreed to it, as well. And there have been plenty of times where that guy Go Nan Gil pushed someone to their death. Wow, he is so slimy! That is totally not true. Director says that this is why he gave up on Nan Gil being his son and dissolved the adoption. Um, it was the other way around. But he’s milking this, because he thinks they haven’t talked, to try to manipulate her. I really hope she’s not falling for it.
Wan Shik adds that they thought that he was pitiable, so they kept it a secret. Director tells Na Ri that her life is becoming a shambles right now. Who's protecting whom? That man (Nan Gil) is still trying to own that land without a penny to his name. Na Ri steels herself and tells Director to let Weasel go. Director replies that he’ll let Weasel go when he’s finished taking care of things. Weasel wants to be here, rather than beside that guy, Go Nan Gil.
Door knock. Bruiser enters with Duk Bong. He says they should confirm some things since he’s here. He tells Director to show him the documents that prove the financial connection between Shin Jung Nam and Hong Sung Kyu. Director chuckles and says that he really doesn’t know anything about that. Duk Bong should ask his lawyer. Duk Bong stands and tells Na Ri to get up. There's no need for Na Ri to come meet these people anymore from now on. He knows a load of crap when he hears one. The Chairman is a master at it.
It’s dark when Duk Bong and Na Ri arrive at Hong Dumplings. Nan Gil and Yong Kyu are leaving as they arrive. In the car, Duk Bong comments on Na Ri being quiet the entire ride. Isn’t she being too distrustful of him? She thanks him for earlier. She’s always saying words of thanks to him. She gets out of the car. Duk Bong sighs and leaves – a little quickly.
Yong Kyu scurries over to Na Ri, calls her Daughter, and asks if she knows what today is. It's the day the dumpling restaurant goes on TV! He’s giddy. She doesn’t react. He says that Boss said that they can't, but he would like to request to use the living room! Please allow them to watch it! He gives her a deep bow. She tells Yong Kyu to go ahead. She gives Nan Gil a look and goes inside.
It’s a watch party: the Boys and Duk Shim. Even though it looks like Duk Shim and the Boys are playing an interactive game on their phones. Yong Kyu is still giddy. He’s brought snacks and declares that the history of their dumpling restaurant will be divided into before the show and after the show! For TV program, "Let's Eat Three Delicious Meals"! Fighting! Fighting! Fighting! He definitely says the ‘f’ in fighting! Is he originally from the States? The gang completely ignores him, absorbed in the game. He glares at them and drinks his drink.
Na Ri gets out the wicker box which contains mementos, including pictures of her and Abeoji. Lots of smiling pictures. She remembers Nan Gil telling Weasel that Weasel said he saw Abeoji last spring… Nan Gil telling her that he’d confirm it.
Doorbell. Yong Kyu answers the door and it’s Yeo Joo. Does she not have anything else to do than to take the ride out into the country to bug them? She happily greets them. Joon is surprised and Han Yi has a big grin on his face. Duk Shim mutters sarcastically that it’s awesome. Yong Kyu mutters that things are going to get noisy. Yeo Joo asks what’s going on, since the restaurant closed early. Han Yi tells her about the TV show and calls her Noona, which makes Joon choke on his drink.
Duk Shim asks why Yeo Joo is there, again. Yeo Joo says that she came to Duk Shim. She went shopping with Duk Bong and got Duk Shim a gift. Duk Shim asks – indignant aka defensive – if Yeo Joo actually thought she’d accept a gift from her. Yeo Joo smiles and says that she’s fine if Duk Shim doesn't accept it. She just hopes that Duk Shim will acknowledge her feelings in thinking about Duk Shim. Duk Shim mutters a ‘heol’ and scratches like she has hives at the thought of Yeo Joo’s feelings.
Yeo Joo heads up to say hello to Na Ri. When she brightly enters Na Ri’s room, Na Ri looks sad and declares that she wants to be alone. Brightly, Yeo Joo declares that they should talk later and she’ll be down watching Hong Dumplings on TV. She leaves and Na Ri sighs sadly.
A knock at the door. Na Ri yells that she said, she wants to be alone! Nan Gil enters. He asks if she’s not going to watch the show. She says she’s not. Her expression, etc, makes him ask what’s wrong. She told him not to worry about her, but he ends up worrying. She looks at him, considers and tells him that they should talk about it later. He replies that Hong Na Ri saying "they should talk later" is the scariest thing ever. She doesn’t respond.
Nan Gil sighs and says that she really is in a bad mood. So when is she going to do that? She asks what he means. She replies that she asked for an hour a day because she wants to get to know him. She looks at him again, sighs and agrees. She has something to say to him anyway. They should do it now. He replies that it's even scarier that she’s suddenly acting like this. She tells him to go to the restaurant. She’ll go there. Nan Gil leaves and Na Ri sighs sadlt.
Wan Shik and Lawyer are waiting in Director’s office. He enters so they stand. Director slaps Wan Shik so hard that he grunts. How did Wan Shik order what to do without permission?!! Eyes down, Wan Shik says he did it because he was frustrated with Director being dragged around by Go Nan Gil. Director clarifies: Wan Shik’s saying he did it out of consideration for him? What is he trying to do by messing with a guy that he can't even win against? Does Wan Shik think he can beat Go Nan Gil?
Wan Shik looks up at Director and says that Director liked Go Nan Gil more than him from the start, didn't he? Director’s face reacts with annoyance. Wan Shik asks if that’s why Director’s just taking Go Nan Gil at his word and going through his (Wan Shik’s) accounts? Director says that there were so many punks snooping around, he did it at random. Wan Shik kicks himself. Director asks if there’s something on Wan Shik’s conscience. Wan Shik looks guilty but doesn’t say anything.
Director pulls down his suit to straighten it and heads to his seat. Wan Shik and Lawyer sit. He gives the nod to Wan Shik. The documents. Wan Shik is shocked. Director tells him to stamp it. From today onward, Wan Shik is the CEO of Dada Finance. If Wan Shik gets through a hard time for a year and comes out of jail, then Dada will be his. Making Wan Shik the fall guy this time. Wan Shik should at least do this for his father. Wan Shik looks at the papers.
Wan Shik enters his office, where Bruiser is waiting. He sags onto his desk. Bruiser says that the thing that Director was hiding is a ledger of money laundering. Wan Shik asks where it is and Bruiser gets it from his jacket pocket. Bruiser asks if it will be okay. Wan Shik replies that if Director already started suspecting him, who would feel stable? He tells Bruiser to go; he’ll take care of it. He makes a phone call. He tells the person that he sent the address. This is as far as he goes. It’s Nan Gil.
TV show. Duk Shim drools over up close shots of Nan Gil. Yeo Joo dreamily declares that Nan Gil’s cool. He looks good on screen, too. She can see why Sunbae Na Ri likes him. Duk Shim glares at her. Gugudan appears and Yong Kyu giggles giddily.
Nan Gil and Na Ri sit across from each other. Nan Gil breaks the silence, saying that he feels nervous for some reason when she looks at him like that. Should they talk about her first today? She’s alone too. It's true that Abeoji died. Nan Gil stops looking at her. She says that she went to Dada Finance with Kwon Duk Bong today. Nan Gil sighs and asks why she did that. They lie every time they open their mouths!
She answers that he’s right. She went there and heard another lie. They said that he killed Abeoji. They said that Nan Gil personally confirmed it and already knew all about it. Nan Gil barely moves. She tells him to say something. He doesn’t. She says that she doesn't believe everything that they say. But, she can't tell what he’s feeling as he’s hidden that. Why did he say they should look for Abeoji? Why did Nan Gil believe that Abeoji would be alive?
Nan Gil answers that it’s because he went looking for Abeoji at the hospital that day. They said that they didn't have an emergency patient by that name. He wanted to believe that Abeoji was alive. Na Ri wants to know what day he’s referring to as ‘that day.’ Nan Gil doesn’t answer.
Gyeonggi-do Nursing Home. Seamstress is there. She smiles and goes and meets someone. A guy who is singing. It’s Abeoji. They’re happy to see each other. Of course he’s alive!
Nan Gil says that Abeoji died five years ago. That's when his illness started. That day, he put his life on the line, fighting with a competitor’s boys. Wow, so Abeoji was in the loan sharking business. Wow. He saw a man run up to the rooftop, and they were the only ones up there for a little while. He saw Man’s frightened gaze. That man was driven to that point because of him. That man didn't have anywhere to go and fell. He couldn't catch Man either. In one instant... he saw blood flowing out of Man. Both of them are tearing up.
Nan Gil says that he made Man die. Hong Na Ri’s Abeoji. Tears start flowing down her cheeks. Sadly, he says that he remembers it so vividly. He tried to make up the excuse that he didn't kill Man myself. But... he can't forgive himself for being there. Na Ri swallows heavily and stands. Nan Gil won’t look at her. She walks away. Nan Gil tries not to cry.
The Boys enter and Yong Kyu is giddy over the show and how they’re trending now. Nan Gil doesn’t respond. Wordlessly, and not looking at them, he gets up and leaves. Joon and Han Yi knows that it means something big, but Yong Kyu thinks that Nan Gil’s going to knead the dough. He gets the Boys to leave.
In his room, Nan Gil leans against his door and cries.
Abeoji has a make-shift bedroom at the nursing home. They’re watching the Let’s Eat show on the restaurant. Abeoji is interested at the part where they’re talking about looking for him. Seamy (Seamstress takes so long to type) sighs and says that she did well finding out Hong Na Ri's phone number. Abeoji asks what Seamy is doing right now! They decided to live in this house. Cajoling, Seamy says that Na Ri says she can't believe her.
Yeo Joo wants to walk Duk Shim home. Duk Shim protests by Yeo Joo says that it’s not right for young girls to walk around alone at night. Duk Shim gives her a ‘Heol’ and says that she knows Yeo Joo’s doing it so she can see Duk Bong. Yeo Joo snaps that it’s because she has something to pay back to him. Na Ri walks right by them like they aren’t there. Yeo Joo notices that Na Ri is crying and hurries to find out what’s going on. Duk Shim follows – even though Yeo Joo told her to stay put. Na Ri doesn’t come to the door and it’s locked.
Nan Gil calls Joon. He found the ledger. It's not in a computer. If they’re going to end Dada Finance, they have to have that. Joon is driving with the Boys. He motions at Han Yi to quiet Yong Kyu down. Joon asks if Nan Gil is planning on going to look for it right now? On his own? Nan Gil tells Joon to go through all of Dada Finance's files and send them to him. Don't leave a single one out this time. He’s going to end Dada Finance on his own. He started it, so he should finish it. I guess he feels like he has nothing to lose anymore (and nothing to live for since his last secret is out and Na Ri must hate him).
Na Ri is sitting her bed. She thinks of Abeoji pushing her on the swings and them laughing. She gets a phone call: Seamy. Does she really want to find Abeoji? Seamy doesn’t answer when Na Ri asks who she is and says that she will send an address. Na Ri must come alone! Abeoji is scared of people. Direct confirmation that Abeoji is ALIVE and Nan Gil DIDN’T kill him and Dada Finance has told an even bigger whopper by convincing Nan Gil that he did. When Na Ri asks if Abeoji is alive, Seamy tells her to come and check for herself.
Abeoji sings to himself as he works as an orderly.
Na Ri heads into the restaurant, calling for Nan Gil, but he’s not there. Good woman to hurry to tell him rather than waiting. She tries calling but he doesn’t answer the phone.
Nan Gil has head, wearing his black suit, to the lounge. He’s there looking for something.
Na Ri is in a taxi, heading to the nursing home.
Nan Gil thinks about how Na Ri told him that she loves him. He thinks that he never imagined even once, that he’d hear Hong Na Ri tell him she loves him. He tells her thank you. He goes through a door where Bruiser and company are. They immediately attack. Nan Gil is calm and ready.
Na Ri and Abeoji meet. She sees him first and makes sure it’s him by looking at her picture of him.
Nan Gil brawling – and holding his own against them all. He think that he never imagined even once that he’d make Hong Na Ri cry. One of the guys smashes a bottle on Nan Gil’s head. He struggles to stay on his feet and thinks: “I'm sorry.” Episode ends.
Thoughts
This is bad – I really hope Nan Gil doesn’t get badly hurt. Somehow, though, I don’t think they’ll beat him, because this is what he’s had to deal with all his life before going home to Oma. But it’s definitely his last hurrah/apology to protect Na Ri, since he believes it’s totally over now. Little does he know that Abeoji is alive… And I think that Joon might just come and save him…And sucky Abeoji. What a selfish turkey! I wonder if Wan Shik knows that Abeoji is alive? Because I think no one except Seamy *does* know. As complicated as his relationship is with Nan Gil, I can’t see him perpetuating the lie if he knew, considering how much it hurts him to think he killed someone. I wonder if Wan Shik is going to be Director’s fall guy, just like Nan Gil did a few years ago. ‘It’s the least you can do for your father.’ Even though your father has no compunction over slapping you so hard that you grunt.
Director is a complete slime ball – for so many things including that and because he made it sound like Nan Gil did that kind of thing all the time. Which is obviously a lie since the incident caused Nan Gil’s panic disorder. If it was something that didn’t affect Nan Gil in the slightest, he wouldn’t react that way.
I love that even though Na Ri was hurt/upset, she still kept her logic. This is why I love her totally. She’s loyal and doesn’t let her fear sway her from the truth and logic. And I hate Weasel! Man, he and Abeoji just need to get what’s coming to them and leave Na Ri (and Nan Gil) out of it.
Did Wan Shik set him up? Because I don’t think so. It, again, doesn’t jive with their relationship and Nan Gil was ready for the Bruisers when he walked through that door. He was also dressed in his gangster suit.
Will Na Ri be able to persuade her loser Abeoji to make himself known to fix all this? And will Soon Rye keep her job at Robot Museum. And how much of a jerk is Chairman, since he obviously knows what his dad did and doesn’t care? And what happened to Duk Shim in Seoul that she won’t tell anyone about?
I’m starting to like Yeo Joo more because she’s not playing her games. I mean, she’s mischievous but she’s not being manipulative, so I actually am warming up to her. I still don’t feel sorry for her for her life circumstances – you have rotten parents. That is not rare. I think that she likes Duk Bong in spite of herself and isn’t actually trying to get him because she’s convinced herself that it’s pointless to try. He’s immune to her charms and her games, plus he knows how lousy she can be and how poor she really is. I do think he’s going to start liking her, for her, and not because she looks like his ex-first-love. What did that girl do, anyway? And how funny was Duk Bong’s shopping trip. Nan Gil’s style is definitely not for him.
