Suspicious Housekeeper Episode 8 Recap

I wasn’t expecting to recap episodes 6, 7 and 8, one right after each other, but this story has sucked me in and I want to know what’s going to happen next. I actually have started to care about almost all involved and I’m really wanting to know what happens between Bok Nyeo and the man who’s been stalking her.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_001  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_002  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_003

The episode starts with Grandpa screaming at Sang Chul and trying to strike him. Hye Gyul cries for Bok Nyeo to stop him, so she does. Sang Chul touches her shoulder and she judo flips him to the floor. That had to hurt whoever got flipped.

Now Bok Nyeo’s walking along the street and the guy’s leering at her. It’s almost leisurely how he follows her. I wonder if he's been doing this a while, with how he’s acting, walking. The construction site. Bok Nyeo grabs him and shoves him through a brick wall so that he’s hanging. He tells her that she might kill another person like this. He asks her to let him up so they can talk. She considers for a moment and then pulls him up. She does not look frightened at all.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_005  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_004

Bok Nyeo asks him why he’s following her and his response is, she didn’t possibly forget, that she’s a murderer who killed her own family. She just looks at him. He asks her why she’s working for the Euns. Is she having fun, enjoying their misery, or is she there to steal something? He steps closer and tells her that until she stinks like a corpse, he’s going to watch her. She shouldn’t dream useless things and she should leave that family. There is no reaction from her the entire time, no response.

Bok Nyeo leaves the construction site and her impassive mask is slipping. I just want her to get to where she can smile. Memory of the mother-in-law telling her she killed them! She should smile until her face rips (because she’s happy over what she’s done)! Then the woman asks her why she isn’t and tells her never to smile again. Ever! Until she dies! This woman is horrid as Bok Nyeo weeps. And you can tell from how her face hardens that this is when Bok Nyeo decided never to smile again.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_006  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_007  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_009

Hospital. The kids are there. Sang Chul has a concussion. Doo Gyul can’t believe she did that and Se Gyul reminds him she told them several time not to stand behind her. He’s indignant that she still shouldn’t have done this! Han Gyul wonders if she did it on purpose, to stop Grandpa from killing Appa. The kids are relieved that she did it now. As Sang Chul starts to wake up, Han Gyul says she was happy that he had come home. Sang Chul pretends he’s asleep to hear their conversation. But then Han Gyul realized that he was only there because of Grandpa. The kids leave to go talk to the doctor and Sang Chul thinks.

The next day, all the kids are watching Bok Nyeo clean. They’ve noticed that something is wrong. Han Gyul asks her to tell them if she’s worried, or if something bad happens. Bok Nyeo coldly responds that unless it’s about work, the children should not talk to her at all. Which freaks everyone out.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_010  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_011  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_012

Song Hwa’s apartment. She’s sitting in a fetal position, cradling her knees. Flashback to her at a coffee shop with Manager Choi. Why did he say he loved her? Because it was easy. I guess what Sang Chul said was right, stupid woman. Saying I love you is like a promissory note: it’s hard to issue when it’s for real, but when someone’s plans on reneging (going bankrupt), nothing’s easier to issue. She tries to threaten him with telling someone that I assume is his wife – because she’s got no problem sleeping with married men – but he tells her that her credibility is zero since she falsely accused Sang Chul of sexual harassment and everyone knows it. Even if she says that she’s pregnant with his child – And I was right about her being pregnant. I half expected that it would be Manager Choi’s. At least she’s not tied to them forever with Sang Chul’s baby. Even if she says she’s pregnant, no one’s going to believe her. He chuckles and tells her that her sad face hurts his heart. Really? Then he suggests that she just takes his advice and resigns. Because that would work out best for her, having no job, no income, no way to support herself. No wait, that would work out best for you.

Did she honestly think that he would step up and support her and the baby? Really? What kind of fantasy world are you living in? You don’t want Sang Chul’s kids and yet… This woman. So selfish. I don’t feel bad for her at all.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_013  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_014

Sang Chul’s sitting in his hotel room, thinking about what the kids said while they thought he was asleep. He feels bad that the kids are feeling bad again. The phone rings. It’s Song Hwa. He almost doesn’t answer. She doesn’t say anything at first. Then she asks him to help her.

Grandpa is at the hospital. He’s gotten his arm bandaged and is muttering as he thinks about how Bok Nyeo stopped his assault of Sang Chul. Director Hong arrives and sits beside him. She says that Bok Nyeo is like a mother to the kids now, so he should stop holding onto useless things and leave them alone. For his grandchildren. He wants to know why she’s protecting Bok Nyeo, is she her daughter? Director Hong laughs that really loud laugh and tells him he guessed wrong again. He should age gracefully, like her, but instead his insides are all twisted. That’s why he poor, sick, and broke.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_017  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_018

Grandpa snaps that Director Hong’s still acting weird. He wants to know who she is. She replies “Jung Mi Sook.” He thinks it’s a weird name. She clarifies her name and asks him if he’s got dementia. He realizes that she’s the housekeeper who used to work at his uncle’s house and tells her that she’s scared of her. Isn’t she ashamed? He fell out with his uncle over it and decided, the day he left his hometown, that he would think of her as dead, a ghost. He stomps off and Director Hong mutters that her fate is twisted.

Back at Happy Company, Director Hong holds the broach and wonders if he’ll believe her if she shows him this? Then she shakes her head, because there’s no point. It’s not like they’d end up together or anything.

Playground. Hye Gyul’s sadly sitting on the swings. Bok Nyeo appears and announces that she’s there to get her. Hye Gyul sadly looks at the card she’s holding. It announces that she’s going to be in a performance and he needs to come; it’s an order. She sadly looks up at Bok Nyeo, who isn’t quite as impassive.

Doo Gyul’s looking at the invite. Hye Gyul’s playing Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. And I’m a little impressed that it’s something they are aware of in Korea. I wouldn’t think that it would have been something that would still be thought of world wide. America, yes, since it stayed in the public’s consciousness, but not necessarily Korea. Doo Gyul isn’t impressed but it’s clear by what he says that he has no clue about the story at all. Hye Gyul mentions that she’s worried and Bok Nyeo stops her peeling. She’s listening in spite of herself.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_019  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_020

Doo Gyul tells Hye Gyul to tell him and he’ll take care of it. Hye Gyul has a question for Bok Nyeo, but Bok Nyeo said she’d quite if they asked her any useless questions. Hye Gyul needs a dress. Bok Nyeo reacts to Hye Gyul in the background, feeling bad. Se Gyul tells Hye Gyul how to ask. Hye Gyul goes over and tells Bok Nyeo that she’s the lead in the play and she needs a dress. Can Bok Nyeo make her a dress (is she able)? Bok Nyeo replies she is. Hye Gyul is excited but then stops herself and requests Bok Nyeo make the dress. Hye Gyul returns to the table, happy, but then gets sad again as she looks at the rock box. She’s thinking about her dad.

Song Hwa has come to Sang Chul’s hotel room. He’s concerned. She declares that she’s stupider than she thought, thinking he’d marry her. She should have listened to him; Manager Choi is marrying the Executive Director’s daughter. She says he called her an obstacle and told her to quit. Sang Chul’s offended at her being called an obstacle. She replies that she thinks he quoted Sun Young’s suicide note on purpose. But he also proposed that she do the same thing she did with Sang Chul, be his mistress. Sang Chul’s pissed and starts to go take Manager Choi to task, but Song Hwa stops him. He apologizes, saying it’s all his fault. She asks him if he’ll take responsibility for this? Since she just has him now. He sputters and then she says she was just kidding. And no one believes her. She says she’ll go. When he wants to know what she’s going to do, she declares she’ll just get married, to anyone. Way to manipulate.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_023  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_024

When Song Hwa opens the door, Bok Nyeo is standing outside. Bok Nyeo just looks at her and I can hear what she’s thinking. What are *you* doing here, you woman? Sang Chul asks Bok Nyeo why she’s there and she replies she has a message for him from his kids. Yes, bring him back to reality and to remember the kids that he loves and is responsible for. Bok Nyeo reports that last time, they said he could come home only– she looks pointedly at Song Hwa as she says– if you end it with that woman. They wanted her to give him something and say it’s his last chance. They want him to come to the talent show and prove how much he loves them.

Song Hwa leaves, rightfully uncomfortable, but Bok Nyeo blocks Sang Chul from following her by asking what he wants her to tell the kids. Sang Chul asks her again to not say anything about what she’s just seen, but he says he’ll go to the presentation, but he doesn’t know how to show that he loves them. He asks her how you prove love. She replies that it’s for him to decide. She leaves and he looks at the invitation.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_025  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_026  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_027

Outside, Song Hwa is waiting for Bok Nyeo. As Bok Nyeo walks by she snarks, “I thought Director Eun’s wife passed away. If someone saw, they might think you're the reincarnation of his wife. Not only catching me, but are you doing everything a wife would do, now? After visiting the company, you use the kids, as pawns, to get him to come home to humiliation.” She’s pissed because she feels like she’s lost to someone he’s not even married to. Bok Nyeo looks at her and she mutters defensive things, including that Bok Nyeo’s like her, going after motherless houses. It seems like she’s planning something, has a hidden agenda. Song Hwa says that she’s leaving, so Bok Nyeo should do her best to look after them. Like you ever were. Even now she’s so focused on herself. Man. Bok Nyeo replies that she will try to do well and leaves. Song Hwa clearly doesn’t like her.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_028  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_029  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_030

Grandpa is at home. He’s doing laundry. Auntie arrives and tells him that they should hire a housekeeper too. He doesn’t want to hire one. She says that he has a big grudge against them for some reason. He refuses to hire one. Auntie’s more and more certain that there’s *some* reason Dad’s not hiring one, a reason he’s not saying. And we all know it’s something that happened with Director Hong involving a broach. Auntie changes the subject and asks if Grandpa wants to go to Hye Gyul’s performance. He wasn’t planning on it. But he'll be a better dad for them that Sang Chul.

The kids watch Bok Nyeo sew and Han Gyul asks what Sang Chul said. She replies that he said that he will come to the talent how and will prove how much he loves them, so they shouldn’t worry. They don’t like her answer and Han Gyul asks if he’s still seeing that woman. Instead of answering Bok Nyeo announces that the dress is done. It’s a really pretty white dress with a blue skirt. It doesn’t look at all like Dorothy’s gingham outfit, but why kibble? Hye Gyul loves her new dress. Bok Nyeo almost smiles. The older kids wonder about her avoiding their question and if something fishy is going on between her and their dad (like feelings).

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_034  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_032  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_033

Hye Gyul makes her siblings play parts similar to their own problems. And I smile a little at the writers. Han Gyul is the tin man (who needs a heart), Doo Gyul is the scarecrow (because he’s less smart) and Se Gyul is the cowardly lion (because he needs courage). Se Gyul asks who’s going to be the Wicked Witch and they make Bok Nyeo do it. Dressed in her costume, she announces that they’re there to punish the Wicked Witch. Bok Nyeo responds that she’ll make them into delicious cookies and eat them all up. The kids ask Bok Nyeo to do the lines again, but this time with some emotion. Bok Nyeo agrees but does the exact same thing as last time.

Sang Chul is reading a book on techniques on raising children with love. He sighs because there’s so much to learn. He gets a text, where Song Hwa reports she’s turning in her resignation. She was told to resign.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_035  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_036  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_037

At the cafeteria, her friends are being sympathetic. Because they don’t know who she really is. Manager Choi, Madame Han and Dong Shik come and sit near them. What a jerk he is. You just dumped the woman and you're deliberately sitting down at the next table. One of the friends asks about the engagement and Madame Han brags that not only will it be an engagement but a promotion to Director. The other friend says she thought Manager Choi was going out with Song Hwa but Madame Han says he heard it was different person. Way to imply she’s cheap. She gets up and leaves. Dong Shik, because he’s an idiot, asks why everything’s such a mess. But then he covers with saying he’s talking about the food.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_039  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_040  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_042

Manager Choi suggests they give Song Hwa a farewell party. Wanker! Sang Chul arrives and asks to talk to Manager Choi. They go off to talk in a stairwell – because it’s so private there – and Song Hwa has seen what they’re doing. Sang Chul tells Choi he warned him about playing with Song Hwa. Choi replies, calling Sang Chul “sunbae,” and telling him that he’s in no position to care about any of it. Dong Shik and Madame Han are watching their discussion. Sang Chul mutters about what a cowardly bastard Choi is and tries to punch him. Choi easily moves aside and Dong Shik comes forward to hold Sang Chul back. There are other workers watching now and among them, Song Hwa.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_044  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_045  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_046

Choi asks Sang Chul if he wants to resign too and says that this is so unlike him, getting into a fist fight. That’s because he’s starting to become a fighter and not wishy-washy. He talks about how he did everything to keep Song Hwa around after the bosses wanted to fire her. If he’s that upset about everything, Sang Chul can have her back. Sang Chul shrugs free, and they get into it, with Sang Chul calling Choi a bastard all the while. Eventually Dong Shik is able to peel Sang Chul off and Sang Chul shouts at Choi, asking him how it’s so easy for him. He (Sang Chul) doesn’t think he’ll know how to love or how to prove it, maybe for the rest of his life. Choi laughs as Sang Chul shouts at him that just saying the words isn’t enough. And Choi can say it so flippantly? Dong Shik finally is able to pull Sang Chul away, and Song Hwa looks down. I can’t tell if it’s because she feels bad for throwing away Sang Chul’s love or if it’s indigestion. Never know with someone like her.

At home, they’re at the end of the play rehearsal. Doo Gyul is saying the wrong lines. Auntie lets herself in and declares she’ll join and play the part of the evil stepmother. Se Gyul tells her there is no evil stepmother, so Auntie asks Bok Nyeo what role she’s playing. Bok Nyeo doesn’t answer or even acknowledge Auntie. And I think something’s going on with her, that she’s fighting something emotional and is lost in her own thoughts. Ah, Han Gyul says that she’s the Wicked Witch and has already died. So no thoughts, just waiting. But I still think there's thoughts.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_047  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_048  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_050

Hye Gyul shows Auntie the her pretty new dress and then Auntie pulls out the snacks she brought. And, of course, spills stuff all over Hye Gyul’s dress. Auntie tries to wipe it off, but makes the mess worse and Doo Gyul tells her it would be better if she just stayed still. Han Gyul asks if Bok Nyeo can clean the dress and of course she can, which she does while the kids eat the food. Hye Gyul asks Han Gyul if Appa is coming tomorrow. Han Gyul isn’t sure and so everyone looks sadly at the rock box.

The phone rings and it’s Sang Chul. He’s cleaning out his desk because he’s been forced to resign. He asks to see Bok Nyeo but not to tell the kids that it’s him. The kids ask if it’s Sang Chul and Bok Nyeo replies that because she was asked to keep it a secret from them, she cannot say anything.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_053  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_054  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_055

The spot by the river where Mom died. Sang Chul reports that he got fired for getting in a fist fight, something so not like him. Bok Nyeo’s non-reaction looks concerned. He says that now he has to pull himself back together so he can prove himself to the kids and get the Dad rock back in the box. And then he realizes that there’s a hole in his pocket and the Dad rock isn’t there. Bok Nyeo gets a flashlight and he frantically searches for it, eventually falling onto the ground. Then he moans about how he’s lost everything. The rock was his last chance to get home. He can’t tell them he lost the stone, because they’d think he did it on purpose and doesn’t love them. Bok Nyeo actually looks like she’s happy that he’s finally coming to his senses.

Sang Chul jumps up and asks Bok Nyeo to turn back time. She replies that she can’t do that. Can she get him unfired? That is also difficult. So Sang Chul asks her to postpone the play. She asks if it’s an order and he replies that he will find a way to fix it, at least finding the Dad rock. Bok Nyeo agrees to carry out the order and leaves.

Song Hwa is at home, thinking about what a complete jerk Manager Choi is, how he compared saying I love you to a promissory note and then how Sang Chul screamed about not knowing what love is or how to prove it. She looks down and she’s holding the Dad rock, which he lost during the fight. What should she do?

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_056  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_058  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_059

Woo Jae’s outside Soo Hyuk’s apartment building, trying to convince him to make sure that Han Gyul doesn’t leave the band. Soo Hyuk says that they should just figure it out themselves. So Woo Jae takes that as a yes, he’s fine if she stays, and leaves. Soo Hyuk sighs with frustration when he’s stopped by his father randomly showing up. He’s there to try to get some money. His mom is insisting that she’s broke, but he got himself in a bit of a jam. What a scuzzball. Dad says that if he can’t pay, the thugs might come visit Soo Hyuk. Soo Hyuk replies that it wouldn’t be the first time and he doesn’t care.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_061  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_062

Dad wonders how much money he could get from selling Soo Hyuk’s guitar and amplifier, which gets the boy’s attention. Soo Hyuk’s shocked since Dad had never done anything for him. Dad laughs because he doesn’t feel a bit guilty and tells the boy that if he doesn’t want to sell his stuff, he should sell himself instead. And I want to punch this man. He did not just suggest Soo Hyuk go prostitute himself. In America, that’s normally with guys, too. Super slimey. And around the corner, Woo Jae has heard EVERYTHING. And he’s just as shocked, freaked and appalled as I am.

Woo Jae and some of their mutual friends are out by the river, where Woo Jae is grilling up some meat. He’s told them about Soo Hyuk’s encounter with his dad. Han Gyul arrives and one of the other guys announces that Woo Jae brought a guitar case’s worth of meat. I guess this is their band. Han Gyul thinks Soo Hyuk’s not there because of her but Woo Jae tells her he had a problem at home. But it’s nothing serious.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_063  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_064  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_065

Woo Jae starts singing a cheesy meat cooking song, which makes everyone laugh. And it makes me love him even more! He signals to the other guys and they pull out their instruments. He plays piano on his tablet and they sing about how “you are a person who was born to be loved. “ Woo Jae’s looking at Han Gyul the whole time and she smiles back at him. Aw, did she figure it out?

Hye Gyul’s play. Han Gyul and Se Gyul are recording the performance with their phones. Hye Gyul looks super cute. And I don’t see Sang Chul. And I thought Bok Nyeo was supposed to stop the performance. Why’s she slacking? The Cowardly Lion is played by Uh Jin, so Mrs. Nosy is proudly videoing his whole performance. Mr. Nosy isn’t there. The kids are very aware that Sang Chul isn’t there.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_071  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_072  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_073

Suddenly Bok Nyeo bursts into the room. Loudly. She goes up and completely trashes the stage. Hye Gyul asks her to stop and Bok Nyeo pauses to look at her for a moment and then destroys the castle cutout. All the mothers rush out with their children. And it’s a nightmare. Wow, what a fake out! I usually can tell, but that was crazy realistic.

Sang Chul wakes up from the nightmare and calls Bok Nyeo but gets no answer. That’s because she’s just called in a threat to the school. He tries again and says that he changed his mind, causing the request a ridiculous favor. She tells him that it’s already too late. Sang Chul jumps to his feet and asks Bok Nyeo if she already did something, which she says yes to. He asks where she is and she replies that she can’t say and then hangs up. We see that she’s outside the school.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_075  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_076  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_077

Sang Chul arrives at the school and finds police and the moms complaining. The teacher is profusely apologetic, but the police are investigating. Sang Chul asks what happened and when he hears about the threat, he asks if she asked about postponing the play. Mrs. Nosy puts two and two together and asks him if the threat came from him housekeeper. He replies that he’s so sorry. Mrs. Nosy declares that he’s such a sorry man.

Back at the butcher shop, Mrs. Shin is shocked that Bok Nyeo would do such a thing, but Mr. Shin doesn’t want to believe it. Wifey gets angry and goes to hit him with some meat, but he stops her and tells her not to do it, calling her Miss Mi Ja. She can’t believe he called her Miss Mi Ja. He tells her that she’s misunderstanding and the reason he keeps looking at Bok Nyeo is because of her. Wifey starts to hit him as she sarcastically declares that it’s all her fault.

At the police station, Sang Chul tells Bok Nyeo that, after knowing what’s going on with their family, the principal’s going to let it all slide, but she can’t do it again. He asks about the play and she says that it’s canceled. He replies that it’s shameless, but he really wanted to see Hye Gyul’s performance.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_079  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_080

At home, the kids are asking Bok Nyeo about the play. They’re surprised that their father asked her to do it. She replies that Sang Chul got fired from work and lost the Dad rock. He wanted to prove that he loved them, since he couldn’t give back the rock. He’ll find a way somehow… Han Gyul realizes that Bok Nyeo just said their father was fired. After Bok Nyeo explains what fired means to Hye Gyul, the kids ask her to find their dad.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_082  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_083  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_084

Sang Chul’s sitting sadly by the river, looking at where his wife died. He's looking at the invite from Hye Gyul. Bok Nyeo tells him that the kids are looking for him. He replies that he should have been the one to die. He stands up and starts walking toward the river. Bok Nyeo just watches him walk into the river, but she’s blinking back her tears.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_085  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_086  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_087

And then the kids show up and start yelling at their dad to stop. The oldest three run down to the water and start to walk in, to stop their dad, and Hye Gyul reaches up, to get Bok Nyeo’s hand. Bok Nyeo holds it for her, to comfort her. And I get really misty-eyed, since I’m taking a great meaning into what Bok Nyeo’s just done. This moment gets me every time I watch it, because of how helpless and vulnerable Hy Gyul is and how Bok Nyeo was there to comfort her.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_090  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_093  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_095

Sang Chul sees them and orders them to stay back. Han Gyul begs him not to do it. He yells back that he’s just a father who wounds them. It would be better if he was gone. Han Gyul yells back that it’s cowardly to leave them like this. This gets a reaction, since that’s how Sang Chul has been for most of his fatherhood of them.

Han Gyul asks Sang Chul for a favor, would he watch Hye Gyul be Dorothy just once? Which is exactly what Sang Chul wanted before he got super depressed and decided to kill himself. Se Gyul yells that Mrs. Nosy got Hye Gyul kicked out of the play. Han Gyul adds that Hye Gyul practiced a ton because he was going to see it and that their family’s presentation isn’t over. This gets through to Sang Chul.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_100  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_101

Back at home, everyone is playing their part, in costume, even Bok Nyeo. The Wicked Witch demands Dorothy’s shoes but Dorothy refuses. The Witch declares that she will steam Dorothy and eat her all up. And then Bok Nyeo laughs, without moving really anything. I laugh really hard and rewatch her do it. Scarecrow says they came all that way. The Witch starts to put a spell on the Scarecrow but Dorothy stops her. Outside, the stalker is taking pictures from up a tree.

Dorothy is leaving, but her friends want her to say. Tin man says that he wouldn’t have gotten a warm heart, without her. Bok Nyeo looks at Han Gyul as she says this, and it’s like the family is talking to Bok Nyeo rather than Dorothy. Scarecrow says he wouldn’t have a brain and the Lion says he would have stayed a coward. Dorothy clicks her heals and declares that her family is waiting for her to come home.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_104  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_106  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_108

Sang Chul is really affected, and starts to cry. He says there’s another person who should see the performance. Everyone looks at Sun Young’s picture. Sang Chul says that he’s sorry that their mother is dead because of him. He’s sorry for not being able to say “I love you.” Han Gyul tells him that other fathers would have said I cheated but I love only you. Why did he run away. He says that he was going to run away again because he thought he couldn’t come back, just like the Dad rock he lost. Han Gyul tells him that it doesn’t matter if the Dad rock is lost, just so long as the *real* dad stays with them. Sang Chul thanks them for says what they said. And Bok Nyeo blinks as she watches it all.

The kids are now taking pictures with a camera, making funny faces. Sang Chul watches them happily as Bok Nyeo stares ahead at nothing. They invite their Appa to join them. Han Gyul then invites Bok Nyeo to join them. When she declines, the kids tell her that she’s part of their family now. Bok Nyeo replies that she’s sorry, but she’s not their family. I’m wondering if she knows that the guy is watching, which is what she’s staring at.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_114  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_117  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_118

Han Gyul gets an idea and has them pose in the other direction, so that Bok Nyeo’s in the picture in spite of herself. At the last minute, Auntie steps into the frame, blocking Bok Nyeo. And I groan at Auntie for ruining this moment! And then I wonder if that’s not foreshadowing for something happening to Auntie because they mistake her for Bok Nyeo. Auntie takes Bok Nyeo's place. Everyone turns around and glares at her even though she waves cheerfully.

Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_120  Suspicious-Hskpr_E08_121

Sang Chul and Bok Nyeo are outside. Bok Nyeo’s not wearing her coat, so I guess Sang Chul’s decided to leave again. He wants to come home, but he’s afraid he’ll disappoint them again if he comes back too quickly. He asks Bok Nyeo to please say something, because she seems to say wise things to the kids sometimes. She doesn’t want to speak out of turn, but he doesn’t care. She tells him to stay close to his children. He said that he needs to learn but is a bit handicapped in that area. For a student to study, he has to sit in his chair and for a father to learn how to love his children, he needs to stay close to them. She goes back inside and it looks like Sang Chul likes her advice and the fact that she spoke her mind.

The TV Station. Mr. Nosy runs down the hall to find Mrs. Nosy in with his girlfriend. Mrs. Nosy is saying things like she’s found them out, but she’s there to report something: “The secret seduction of a mysterious housekeeper.” Mistress is glad that she’s still in the dark and compliments Mrs. Nosy on her ability to come up with a good title. Mrs. Nosy thinks so too and this is a great expose, since she doesn’t look like a housekeeper and does things like arson, assault, graffiti and bomb threats. Mr. Nosy comes in and tells his wife that he already told her that it’s a lame duck story. He’s there so they can get back to work. As they walk out, they quietly laugh together at Mrs. Nosy. Jerk.

Song Hwa’s at a restaurant with Dong Shik. He’s saying that an affair is scarier than the Black Death and he would never cheat on his wife if he got married. I guess he still likes her, since he clearly said that so she’d know she’s never get cheated on if she decided to marry him. Plenty of other fishes, dude. Plus she’s pregnant with another guy’s baby. I bet she hasn’t said anything about that, yet. Dong Shik mention Sang Chul and she asks what he’s going to do now. Dong Shik says that he’ll either start his own company or make a living drawing up blueprints. He stands to be able to make a lot of money. He holds a lot of patents, so he’s not going to starve. Dong Shik even muses that this might be his perfect opportunity to make his dreams come true.

Stalker dude is talking to someone, who’s watching video. He reports that she looked happy. He says she looked like she was part of the family. Because she refused to take a picture with them. That’s what all families do. Stalker asks the person, if they’re just going to leave her alone. They show several shots of mystery person’s hand holding the phone and it looks like a woman’s hands.

Bok Nyeo enters the living room, where all the kids are just chilling together, because this is what siblings do. Well, maybe they’re studying, which would account for them doing it all together in the same place. Bok Nyeo is carrying a suitcase and when asks she reports that Sang Chul has decided to come home, so she is going to help him pack. The kids are excited, but there’s still the question of whether he’s ended it with that woman. Han Gyul tells their Omma that Appa is coming home.

The Hotel. Sang Chul gets a text where Song Hwa says she has something to give back to him. He sighs and drops his phone on the bed. Song Hwa walks down the hallway, dressed in high heels and a black leather coat. I was afraid that’s all she was wearing, but they I saw part of her dress. I hate this woman! She needs to just get lost. She has the Dad rock, but she puts it in her purse. Sang Chul opens his door and is surprised to find her there. I guess he didn’t answer her text. She just lets herself in.

Song Hwa sees that he’s packing and Sang Chul asks what she has to give back to him. She says that it was an excuse, because she wanted to see him. I throw up as she tells him that she wants him back. Bok Nyeo apparently is in the bathroom, packing up his stuff and can hear the whole thing. She starts to speed up the clean up so he can get out of there before he relents. Song Hwa says that she realized how much he cared when he put his life on the line for her. She hopes it’s not too late. Bok Nyeo stops her packing and there is definite pissed squinting going on.

Song Hwa declares that she’ll take responsibility for him now. Notice she doesn’t mention anything ABOUT YOUR KIDS. It’s a package deal, babe. This moves Sang Chul but Bok Nyeo decides to come out of the bathroom. She asks Sang Chul if he’s finished… There’s a long pause before she adds ‘packing.’ Song Hwa huffs in astonishment and Sang Chul looks guilty.

Thoughts

First, I hate this woman, Song Hwa! You dump him and now that he’s about to move on, you come and tell him that you want him back. Don’t mention the four kids but you’ll take him. Are you going to be a coward your whole life, Sang Chul? Are you going to sneak around in the shadows your whole life? She wouldn’t be saying any of this if she hadn’t have gotten knocked up and lost her job. I don’t believe for a minute that she actually really loves anyone but herself. She needs to just be kicked to the curb.

I don’t think that Bok Nyeo has any real feelings yet for Sang Chul, but she definitely loves those kids. And the stalker means that trouble is a-comin.’ If it’s the mother-in-law, all I can say is what a vengeful, spiteful witch. It’s probably been at least 10 years that Bok Nyeo has been punishing herself, for something that she really isn’t responsible for, and at the slightest hint of her maybe getting some happiness, the evil mother-in-law (MIL) decides to rip it away? And how does stalker justify himself. There's no justification for torturing a woman for the rest of her life because of an accident.

I've thought about why Bok Nyeo didn't try to stop Sang Chul from killing himself. I don't think it's because she thought the kids would get there in time. I don't think she expected the kids to come. I think it's because she can relate to the despair that he was going through and that was where she ended up. Almost as if she can't blame him for something that is so obviously hurtful to all involved, because she's had that kind of despair.

Sang Chul finally apologized to his kids, but not before he tried to kill himself. Hopefully, he will stick with his plan to move home and not be swayed by Song Hwa’s plea. But there’s still another 12 episodes, so I have a feeling that he’s going to not move home yet. Honestly, when I think about it, I don’t know why Song Hwa doesn’t propose the same arrangement that she proposed to Sun Young: you take the kids and get lost and I’ll take the man.

A little more development of Grandpa, and Auntie just annoys me. I totally think that she’s going to get hurt because they’ll have mistaken Auntie for Bok Nyeo. And what happened between Grandpa and Director Hong? So that he hates housekeepers now?

The play was cute and well chosen by the writers to have added symbolism for the show. Bok Nyeo was hysterical as the wicked witch. I can’t wait to see Bok Nyeo as a normal mom. I think she would be great at it.

I’m glad I understand a little more about Korean culture and the pressures you can face from society. It gives some of their struggles more weight and severity, to know just how much the little things can impact everything. More than they would in American society. Their society also seems to have a lot less mobility across classes, even though right now we’re dealing with more your average middle-class family. Shameful behavior can have an impact not just personally but professionally. Which is crazy. But explains why bad behavior is *so* serious. Bad rumors are so much more insidious and potent. Which makes Soo Hyuk spreading that rumor all the more obnoxious.

We got a little more development in the lives of Woo Jae and Soo Hyuk. What a scumball of a dad Soo Hyuk has. I feel bad for the kid. I wonder if Soo Hyuk knows Woo Jae heard the whole thing. I can’t decide if he did or not, based on the excuse he gave out at the beach. And I can’t believe that Dad suggested the boy prostitute himself to earn some money. What is with these horrible parents? And what exactly did Woo Jae’s father mean about why he looks at Bok Nyeo? Maybe Bok Nyeo reminds him of his wife, back when they were courting? I want Woo Jae to end up with the girl, but I’m suspecting that he’s going to end up with second lead syndrome.

What will Sang Chul choose? I guess we’ll have to tune in next week to find out.
