Suspicious Housekeeper Episode 5 Recap

Episode starts with Doo Gyul getting the note that Bok Nyeo is a murderer. He, of course, freaks out and when he looks back at the house, Bok Nyeo is right there, staring at him. She says that she’ll take care of the mail but Doo Gyul says that the letter is for him. So Bok Nyeo leaves, but not before she hits him in the rump with the gate. She, of course, asks if he’s okay, but those little things aren’t the accidents she makes them out to be. He scurries inside.

Han Gyul’s making moon-eyes as her ‘boyfriend’ plays his guitar. What a poser. Hopefully, nice guy, will keep her from giving up her flower to a guy who’s not worth it. (Had to channel Monica Chandler there for a moment.) She gets a phone call but ignores it, so it’s followed immediately with a text. It’s Doo Gyul, freaking. Han Gyul tries to get out of it, but Doo Gyul finally declares that Bok Nyeo is a murderer!

At home, Doo Gyul’s completely certain that the note affirms his suspicions. Han Gyul asks where he found it and goes as far as to ask if Doo Gyul made the note himself. He swears on their mother that he’s telling the truth. Se Gyul comes downstairs, still bearing the marks of when he got beaten up, and says that it’s his bully who did it, in retaliation for what happened when he asked Bok Nyeo to kill him. Doo Gyul sputters that Se Gyul should have told him about the bully, but Se Gyul’s says that they were busy.

Next door, the nosy neighbor is wondering about the guy that was hanging around the Eun House. Her husband asks what trick she’s going to use to get Bok Nyeo fired, since she’s done it before with other people’s housekeepers. Because they were pretty.

Doo Gyul’s thinking about the note and recent events – Hye Gyul’s near drowning, the ‘kidnapping,’ the bully situation. He decides to do something about it and takes his bike to the police station. He doesn’t get very far because he doesn’t have anything more than her name.

The doofus dad, Sang Chul, is watching his ex-mistress enter her apartment with her new boss. Because she is a scheming shrew who only used him to advance her career. Even though she’d never admit that, not even to herself. He’s understandably upset. Starting to walk home, he looks down at the rings he’d purchased for them. He remembers her waiting for him in the rain. Without an umbrella. And her protecting their work with her coat and shivering in the rain. He walked her home (where she punched in her door code) and she remembered to wish him happy birthday. She invited him in for some seaweed soup. And in the present, it’s raining and *he* doesn’t have an umbrella.

Inside Song Hwa’s apartment, she tells her new manager, Choi, that he can go, since the show is over now. He says that the least she can do is give him a cup of tea. As they drink the tea, he asks what she liked about Sang Chul. She replies that he was her first love. Seriously? Choi laughs, too, but Song Hwa says that she got the impression that she was *his* first love. And so you screwed him over. How classy you are. She looks 'sad' but I don't believe her for a minute.

The next morning, Sang Chul is sick in bed, after that long period in the rain. His alarm goes off (7:00 am). He looks over at the box with the rings. Unemployed and he's still getting up early.

Eun Household. It’s dark. Bok Nyeo silently enters. Doo Gyul watches her as she pours gasoline everywhere. Then she spots him but keeps on pouring. Standing in front of his mother’s picture, she flicks on the lighter. While standing in the puddle of gasoline. He runs up and demands to know if she’s trying to kill them. She answers yes and drops the lighter.

Of course, it’s a nightmare and when Doo Gyul wakes, Bok Nyeo is at his beside, there to tell him that he’s on the verge of being late, which will get him points.

In the kitchen, Bok Nyeo is chopping carrots. She really like to use carrots in her recipes. She's always chopping them. Doo Gyul looks at her warily and gets a drink out of the refrigerator. He goes to drink straight from the carton of milk. The chopping stops. She comes up behind him. When he starts to tell her not to stand behind him when she holds out his glass of milk. He starts to drink and she tells him to take off his pants. Because of a loose button, of course.

Breakfast. Doo Gyul tells Se Gyul he has to find out if the note was from the bully. Hye Gyul wants to be a part of it, too, but they act like it's nothing. Bok Nyeo comes to the table and Hye Gyul tells her to show them what she did yesterday. It’s finger puppets and Bok Nyeo can talk without moving her lips! She repeats the conversation that Doo Gyul and Se Gyul just had, word for word. Hye Gyul declares that Bok Nyeo can hear things from far away.

The door bell. Hye Gyul hopes it’s Appa. But it’s not; it’s nosy neighbor. She’s disappointed and runs off, leaving Mrs. Nosy to welcome herself in the house. Bok Nyeo asks why she’s there (with all the kids behind her). Mrs. Nosy says it’s because of a petition. Sure, it is. She wants to see their dad. They stutter and Bok Nyeo declares that Sang Chul ran away from the house. When Mrs. Nosy wants more information, Bok Nyeo relays events: the kids asks if he loves them and when he couldn’t answer, the kids kicked him out. Mrs. Nosy can’t believe that they’re there without adult supervision. When Han Gyul says that Bok Nyeo is an adult, Mrs. Nosy starts to sputter and protest. Even though Bok Nyeo doesn’t react, I can tell she doesn’t like what Mrs. Nosy said. Mrs. Nosy bemoans that she lives next to them and leaves.

The kids worry about what type of rumors Mrs. Nosy is going to spread. Han Gyul tells them they need to leave for school. Before he goes, Doo Gyul yells at Bok Nyeo about telling the truth to Mrs. Nosy. Especially because Mr. Nosy is a news anchor. He tells Bok Nyeo to go kill her. Bok Nyeo immediately agrees. Which means that she’s not serious in her agreement. Doo Gyul grabs her to stop her from leaving, saying he wasn’t serious, but he grabs her chest so then he’s really embarrassed. But he tells her she’s strange, like a robot, and she shouldn’t just follow orders when she’s asked to do something wrong. She walks away without excusing herself/giving a reason.

Next door, Mrs. Nosy is meeting with the neighbor gossips, who are talking about the Eun household. And, of course, she’s concerned because she’s such a good person. She tells them to tell her if they hear anything about the housekeeper.

Bok Nyeo and Hye Gyul arrive at the butcher’s shop. Hye Gyul orders and when she says Bok Nyeo’s name, the butcher notes it, since he likes her. He hands over the meat and Bok Nyeo places the money on the counter. But Butcher stops them, because he has something for Bok Nyeo. She immediately refuses, but he shows her what’s in the bag. Aw, he’s bought her some mace, since she lives alone. A beautiful woman needs to watch out. She might end up with a stalker. Which she already has, but I have a feeling she could dispatch very easily. He tells her that he can’t sleep at night because he’s worried about her.

Mrs. Butcher hears him say this and is understandably jealous. She tries to take the mace away from Hye Gyul. Hye Gyul protests that it’s Bok Nyeo’s. There’s a struggle and Hye Gyul falls to the ground in the process. No apology from Mrs. Butcher. Mrs. Butcher starts to yell at Butcher. First meat, now makeup!!! Mrs. Butcher decides to use it for herself and as Butcher tries to stop her, she sprays it all over her clothes and then her face. At least her eyes were closed. Mrs. Butcher runs screaming from the shop.

Han Gyul is talking with her player boyfriend, telling him about the note. She’s worried but he says she can call her dad. When she doesn’t want to, he puts a hand on her shoulder and tells her that he can call her. Woo Jae comes up and shoves Soo Hyuk’s hand off her shoulder. Because he knows Soo Hyuk is a player. Woo Jae mutters “Whenever you can…” Heh. Woo Jae presents Han Gyul with a can of mace, that he just happened to come across while running errands for his dad. He gives it to her to fend off anyone that might be hitting on her. And we know who he’s talking about.

Woo Jae goes and Soo Hyuk decides to follow him. He grabs Woo Jae’s arm to get his attention and asks if Woo Jae likes her. When Woo Jae says he might, Soo Hyuk tells him to ask her out like a man, otherwise stop interfering with his (Soo Hyuk’s) mission. Which everyone part of the conversation knows is him trying to sleep with her. Besides, she’s 99% in love with him. Woo Jae responds that he’s relieved because he thought it was 100%. He slaps Soo Hyuk on the arm and walks off, with Soo Hyuk muttering to himself behind him. I really like this kid. Although it’s a bit unnerving how much he looks *related* to them, especially Han Gyul.

Doo Gyul’s on the phone with Se Gyul. Se Gyul’s skipped his after school tutoring to come home because he was worried, too. Hye Gyul and Bok Nyeo are playing patty-cake. Se Gyul thinks it’s not the bully, because the guy doesn’t even know where they live. But Se Gyul thinks everything’s fine. But Doo Gyul isn’t worried about that, but what she’s *going* to do. Doo Gyul hops on his bike and heads to the employment agency.

Inside Director Hong laughs loudly at the idea of Bok Nyeo as a murderer. Didn’t he say last time that she was a kidnapper? He protests that this time it’s for real. Director Hong sighs and says that Doo Gyul must really like (as in a crush) Bok Nyeo. Even though Doo Gyul protests, she keeps being sympathetic. He demands Bok Nyeo’s phone number. Director Hong won’t give it. And Director Hong doesn’t have her address, because she uses the agency’s address for id. He wants her ID number, but Director Hong refuses. She says that she gets her commission because she protects Bok Nyeo identity. He gets frustrated but Director Hong declares that Bok Nyeo is very special to her. Doo Gyul doesn’t believe her, because of the address thing, but Director Hong thinks that it’s God’s will that Bok Nyeo happened to work at their house. Director Hong assures him that if anything happens, she’ll take full responsibility, which seems to placate him.

Bok Nyeo is making cookies with Hye Gyul. Doo Gyul arrives at home. All the other kids are there. Hye Gyul tells him he’s late. He doesn’t say anything but goes up to his room. Se Gyul and Han Gyul follow him. Doo Gyul wants them to make a plan, since she’s still their housekeeper. The cookies turn out well.

Se Gyul’s been thinking. If she was a real murderer, the note writer would have told the police. Se Gyul thinks it’s someone with a grudge against Bok Nyeo that is trying to hurt her. Han Gyul thinks that makes sense. Bok Nyeo and Hye Gyul enter with the cookies. Bok Nyeo looks at each of them before she leaves. Doo Gyul nixes asking her directly and tells Han Gyul go talk to their dad. She doesn’t want to but Se Gyul thinks she should too. Han Gyul declares that she won’t and she’ll never live with dad. She sadly looks at a picture of the kids with their mom. Doo Gyul says that they’ll listen when a murder or arson happens.

At the employment agency, Director Hong is telling someone that even if they visit, it will be in vain. But the caller won’t be dissuaded. Director Hong says the voice sounds familiar, but then dismisses it, because it’s not possible to be *that* person. Then she fixes her hair and checks her makeup.

Grandpa thinks about Bok Nyeo fooling around with Sang Chul and decides to figure out what she wants from the family. I guess he was the caller, because the next we see, he’s talking to Director Hong about Bok Nyeo. He has theories as to why they’re fooling around: (1) Bok Nyeo fell in love “with that mug” since she started working there; (2) she’s blackmailing Sang Chul; (2) it’s a sham because they were already in a relationship and this is just so she can get to know the kids. Director Hong says he has quite an imagination, but he’s decided that she’s a gold digger out for Sang Chul’s money. Not that he likes Sang Chul or anything.

Director Hong sighs that “he” hasn’t changed. Grandpa doesn’t remember her. She says that housekeepers have rights, too, and even if this old man suddenly appears, she won’t give him her information. She also calls him a geezer, which he takes offense at, because he’s not old! He stomps out. Director Hong gets up and goes to her desk. She pulls out a box holding a pin which she tenderly holds. I think it’s a gift from Grandpa, because she mutters that he came to see her because of Bok Nyeo.

Sang Chul is walking home when Han Gyul calls him. She’s coming to the hotel to see him. He’s happy to hear from her. And he’s in room 609. He’ll let the front desk people know she’s coming. But after he gets off the phone, he remembers the rings are sitting out for Han Gyul to see, if she goes in his room. He freaks and quickly runs home. Although, he could just call the front desk and have them hold her there until he arrives.

As Sang Chul tries to get the elevator to close, Bok Nyeo sticks her arm through, making the doors open up again. She needs a signature on a release form. He looks at her like she’s mad. They take the elevator upstairs, but when he gets to his door, they’ve already let Han Gyul in the room. He rushes in to see Han Gyul looking at the rings. He starts to pathetically try to make up an excuse but she talks instead, saying he’s happy to be rid of them so he can be with Song Hwa. She asks if he’s planning on sending then an invitation. He protests that it’s not that and she asks what it is, then. She throws the box to the floor and the rings bounce out.

Bok Nyeo steps forward and asks for his signature on that form. Han Gyul starts to leave, but Sang Chul stops her and asks why she’s there. Didn’t something happen? She wrests free and tells him to take care of his woman. When she stomps out, he runs after her. Which is a good sign, because before I think he would have just let her go. Bok Nyeo picks up the mess (the rings).

In the lobby, Sang Chul signs the form. He asks how the kids are doing. Bok Nyeo reports (in her rapid-fire manner) that Han Gyul comes home late every night. Doo Gyul asked her to kill Mrs. Nosy because she found out he left the house. But then he said he was kidding. Se Gyul gave up going to the international middle school and Hye Gyul… Sang Chul stops her from finishing because of Se Gyul. He sighs and says it’s because he didn’t go to the teacher conference. Bok Nyeo tells him that Se Gyul made the choice regardless of that.

Bok Nyeo hands Sang Chul the ring box. He admits that he was going to propose, but it’s useless now. And he’s hurt Han Gyul’s feelings again. He wants Han Gyul to know it’s over, but reconsiders having Bok Nyeo tell her because she’ll think it’s a lie. She asks if he wants her to report that it’s over but Han Gyul will think I’m lying. He tells her just not to say anything. Bok Nyeo leaves and he looks at the rings.

Doo Gyul is trying to find information on Bok Nyeo on the internet. He ends up on a porn site which Bok Nyeo catches him looking at. He pathetically tries to get off the page while she stares at him. He ends up dropping his laptop on the floor. He asks her if she saw what he was looking at. She did. He protests that it was an accident. She says nothing, just gives him his laundry and picks up his computer before she leaves the room, shutting the door behind her. And I laugh at the door shutting. So he can have some privacy and Se Gyul won't accidentally walk in on him. Even when she’s deadpan, she’s still really expressive.

Han Gyul is walking, thinking about her jerky father.

Hye Gyul and Bok Nyeo are doing string figures. I loved doing those when I was a kid. I totally forgot practically everything, but I loved that things. Se Gyul enters and asks Hye Gyul if she plays with the laptop. I guess it was his and now it’s broken. Se Gyul asks Bok Nyeo if she knows who broke it. Bok Nyeo looks at him and Doo Gyul comes running in, acting like string figures are his favorite thing in the world! Se Gyul repeats his question. Bok Nyeo looks at Doo Gyul, who tries to distract Se Gyul. Bok Nyeo answers that she does know. She proceeds to report that Doo Gyul was watching porn and broke the screen when he tried to hide it. I laugh a belly laugh. Se Gyul and Doo Gyul sigh, for different reasons. Hye Gyul complains that Doo Gyul ruined her game.

Han Gyul yells at Doo Gyul for being a rotten older brother. He drags her out of the room to try and explain. She doesn’t want to hear it and tells him he’s the most dangerous person in the house. Se Gyul says his excuse is terrible. She says he’s worse than their father and then yells at him for making her go talk to their dad. She starts to say something about the rings but doesn’t. She and Se Gyul stomp off.

Doo Gyul goes back to yell at Bok Nyeo. He declares that she’s laughing at him. She’s mopping and he grabs her mop. He orders her to smile. Nothing happens. He says she does everything she’s ordered to. Is she ignoring the order because it came from him?! She replies that she cannot obey that order and if he insists, she will quit. He blusters that her threat doesn’t scare him, throws the mop on the ground and stomps off. Bok Nyeo goes back to her mopping.

Doo Gyul’s at school practicing shooting hoops. He can’t concentrate because of the stuff with Bok Nyeo. He keeps missing baskets. A bunch of his teammates laugh. He thinks they’re laughing at him and so he orders all the freshmen (practically the whole team) to do 100 pushups. The guys not doing pushups asks him what his problem is, since he’s not the captain. They tell him he’s going overboard because he’s pissed about his dad running away from home, which makes Doo Gyul even madder because the kid *heard* about what’s been going on. Doo Gyul grabs the gossipy kid’s shirt and demands to know who told him. Mrs. Nosy. When the gossip calls his family broken, Doo Gyul punches him and they start fighting. It's stopped by the coach who then kicks Doo Gyul off the team for fighting.

Doo Gyul’s at the arcade, shooting zombies. He dies and starts beating on the machine. The gossip arrives and asks him if he’s taking his anger out on the machine now. Doo Gyul starts punching him again and ends up at the police station. He's called Bok Nyeo, who is there. And I think he’s talking with the cop he tried to report her to earlier. The cop complains that he was supposed to call one of his parents. He replies that he doesn’t have any and the cop can throw him in jail, for all he cares. But Sang Chul shows up. The cop tells him that he couldn’t release Doo Gyul until a guardian appeared and that the gossip’s family isn’t pressing charges, so please discipline Doo Gyul so it doesn’t happen again. Sang Chul quickly agrees and thanks the cop, but Doo Gyul says that telling his father than is useless, because he’s not his father. Sang Chul uncomfortably apologizes for his son.

As they leave the police station, Sang Chul apologizes for being a bad father and causing these things to happen. Doo Gyul snaps that it’s not because of that and then throws his uniform away. Sang Chul wants to know why he did that, since he loves playing basketball. Doo Gyul says that the only reason he loved it is because it’s the only thing he was good at. As Sang Chul sputters to find a way to comfort his son, Doo Gyul stomps away. But Sang Chul follows him.

Doo Gyul goes into a convenience store and asks for some cigarettes. Sang Chul asks him what he thinks he’s doing. Doo Gyul is flippant and Sang Chul is speechless at what to say. He looks over at Bok Nyeo. She rattles off that smoking with stunt his growth and kill brain cells and he’ll just be a pathetic human who pretends to be an adult when he isn’t one. I laugh. Pathetic human. Heh. Doo Gyul declares he doesn’t care since he isn’t smart anyway. He stomps out. Sang Chul chases after him.

At Home. Doo Gyul stomps in and throws down his bag before walking into the kitchen. Han Gyul asks what happened and Bok Nyeo declares that the police told Sang Chul to discipline him. Han Gyul sighs and starts to yell at Doo Gyul. He tells her to shut up and that it isn’t his fault. He grabs one of his dad’s beer. Han Gyul tells him to stop acting like this and they start struggling over the can, spilling beer everywhere. The can ends up on the floor. Se Gyul looks like he’s about to cry as he tells his brother to stop being immature. Doo Gyul is angry and asks them if they know how he feels?!! He stomps off.

That night, as Bok Nyeo walks home, the guy that was looking for her is waiting for her. He starts to follow her from a distance, but as a truck goes by, she disappears. Who is this guy? What’s the deal with why he’s following her? He hasn’t really been wearing the evil-guy sneer.

Doo Gyul skips class and goes home to play video games. He snaps at Bok Nyeo and she asks if she can do anything for him. Which is unusual because she doesn't normally do that. He tells her to play the video game with him. She keeps beating him rather quickly. Finally, he throws the controller down and demands they play a different game. It’s basketball. She constantly takes the ball away and every shot she shoots, she lands, including a jump shot. Aided by wires, of course.

After basketball, Doo Gyul is glaring at her while she peels carrots. He stomps over and asks if it’s fun to beat him. She says that it’s not. He says that he’s not that smart, so he can’t explain properly, but he knows that she’s dangerous. She’s creepy because she doesn’t smile and is good at everything. He asks who she is. She stops peeling the carrot and declares she’ll start cooking dinner, unless he has an order for her. He says there is something! Can she do that, too? She asks what that is, but he won’t say. He calls her a coward for pretending to not know what he means and starts to walk away when she asks what she should start with. I’m not quite sure what the *that* is. I hope it’s not what a man and woman do when they’re in the house alone, like Doo Gyul and Bok Nyeo are alone right now.

Doo Gyul obviously never thought she’s obey the order to do *that* so he blusters that he won’t feel small because she’s acting like that. He dares her to do something. She puts down her carrot and peeler and starts walking toward him. He steps backward. She takes off her apron and then starts to unbutton her blouse. He yells that she’s crazy and rips out of the room, knocking pictures over in the process. And he almost runs over Han Gyul before he runs from the house.

Sitting on a jungle gym, he thinks about what just happened. Then he starts to walk home and realizes he’s hungry. He sees a happy family eating and feels sad.

Mrs. Nosy is looking out the window, watching for the suspicious man. Not looking up from his newspaper, Mr. Nosy calls the guy a stalker and says that he must be handsome. During this entire conversation, he never looks up from the newspaper. She says that she’s just curious why he would leave a letter in the mailbox. Mr. Nosy asks if he should ask when he runs into him. She looks into the telescope and suspicious guy is back. Husband tells her to hurry and go tell him that she wants a letter. Mrs. Nosy reports that he’s putting another letter in the mailbox. He tells her to read it. She replies that it would be impolite, but he remarks that propriety always loses out to curiosity for her. She hurries out to get the letter.

Doo Gyul arrives to see Mrs. Nosy getting the letter and catches her with another murderer note. He naturally thinks it was her who sent the first note and yells at her for making him worry. Even as she says it wasn’t her and it’s a misunderstanding, that she doesn’t know what it says. He says that she’s trying to get rid of their housekeeper! She denies that and starts to tell him about the man watching their house but he starts to yell about her watching them! She yells that it wasn’t him and runs back inside the house. The mysterious man sees the whole thing and smiles.

Doo Gyul angrily rips up the letter. Bok Nyeo steps outside, leaving for the night. Like what she always says to excuse herself with Sang Chul, she tells him that if there’s nothing further, she’ll be going. He stops her and apologizes. He mentions the weird letters and says it was Mrs. Nosy. Glaring at her house, he orders Bok Nyeo to destroy that house. Bok Nyeo asks if that’s an order. He hesitates, but decides that it is. She looks at her watch and says that she will obey his order. Which I love, because she's working past her clockout time.

Bok Nyeo takes off her hat. She pulls her hair back into a ponytail. She asks Doo Gyul what he would like for her to do. She should bulldoze it. But she doesn’t have a bulldozer. Blow it up. No dynamite. Where should she find it? As he stumbles, thinking he asks how he can destroy the house to make himself feel better. She just looks at him. He asks what her expression means. Even though it hasn’t changed. Does she think he’s going overboard? No response. He tells her that a robot like her wouldn’t know how he feels. There’s an ever so slight twitch and crinkle to her eyebrows, but he doesn’t see it. She says that she does know. Then she picks up her things and walks over to Mrs. Nosy’s house. She pulls out spray paint and starts writing on the wall. She writes, “I want to protect my family.” They look at it and then at each other. Mrs. Nosy appears and sees the graffiti. As she starts screeching, Bok Nyeo puts an exclamation point on the end of the sentence. Doo Gyul can’t help but smile a little.

Mrs. Nosy has called the police. Sang Chul arrives. The kids, Bok Nyeo, Mrs. Nosy and the cop from earlier are in the living room. The cop chastises Sang Chul for not disciplining his son. When he asks what’s going on (why Bok Nyeo spray painted when the son said to), Sang Chul says that Bok Nyeo does everything she’s asked to do. Mrs. Nosy doesn’t want to hear it. She tells the cop to arrest Doo Gyul and declares that everyone in their family is not normal. The father ran away. The daughter stays out late. The son is disrespectful! She can’t sleep because of it. Doo Gyul says that it was because of her threatening letter. She replies that it wasn’t her. Mrs. Nosy demands the evidence of the threat (when she knows he ripped it up). She repeats her demand that Doo Gyul be arrested.

Mrs. Nosy tells Sang Chul he should be ashamed and that the mother would feel so sad if she saw this, which ticks Doo Gyul off. He yells at her for disrespecting his mother. She talks about propriety, but she sent them threatening letters. She says she’s trying to uphold the law! Bok Nyeo ‘glares’ at her. The cop asks Mrs. Nosy to calm down and to give them some slack. She still demands they arrest him.

As the cop starts to walk out with Doo Gyul. Sang Chul blocks their path, which surprises Doo Gyul. He starts to apologize to Mrs. Nosy and tells her to take her anger out on him, not Doo Gyul. He’s begging. He says that Doo Gyul is not a bad kid, but because his parents weren’t around, he acted as the eldest son to protect his family. It’s just because he’s a teenager and more than anyone, he’s a warmhearted child. When his wife was sick, he would sit through the night and change the wet towels on her forehead. Sang Chul promises to fix the wall, if she’ll just forgive things. She won’t unless Sang Chul gets on his knees to apologize.

As soon as the words are out of Mrs. Nosy’s mouth, Sang Chul gets on his knees to beg. None of the kids can believe it. Bok Nyeo exits the room and comes back with the broom. She walks over to Mrs. Nosy and gestures with the broom and Mrs. Nosy shrinks backward. And the episode ends.

Thoughts

So Sang Chul is finally starting to act like a father. I’ve never doubted that he loves his kids; he’s just always felt like such a loser dad that he’s run away from the responsibility. And this episode we see him take some responsibility.

This episode focuses mainly on Doo Gyul and his growing pains. I wonder if dad’s going to get him reinstated on the team eventually. I can see that happening. Doo Gyul seems to really have an inferiority complex going, because he’s always saying things to put himself down but projecting them onto other people. I can see Bok Nyeo being able to help him overcome that and be a hyung that his brother can respect.

Bok Nyeo’s emotions are starting to peak through, however so slightly, as she becomes more attached to these kids. It’s very obvious that she’s listening to everyone, even if she acts robotic, because of the responses she gives. And she’s meeting their needs depending on who they are. Se Gyul needed to think for himself; Doo Gyul needed to be able to vent. It was a nice beat that she was able to vocalize what Doo Gyul was unable to for himself: that he wanted to protect his family. Twice in the episode, Doo Gyul got to see that he’s not the ignored one out of his siblings, first with Bok Nyeo and second with his father. I think he always felt the least important, partially because he’s not the oldest, his younger brother is super smart and his youngest sister is the baby of the family. So, to be acknowledged like that was good.

I wonder who this guy is that is looking for Bok Nyeo. I don’t think it’s an ex, because he’s too impassive about things, but why is he intentionally trying to ruin her life. Maybe the husband’s brother? Because he wouldn’t try to ruin her life if he was just some guy hired to find her. My theory about her past is that she had a child who died and that she blames herself. One, because she always orders just 2 meals at the playground. Two, her survivor’s guilt. She doesn’t feel like she has the right to happiness because of her guilt over her son’s death, probably at the hands of his abusive father, someone she stayed with despite the abuse. I say father because why else would she completely drop out of her life and be hidden?

I don’t think it’s going to take too much longer before Sang Chul makes up with his children. Han Gyul’s going to be the last hold out, but I suspect that she’ll forgive him pretty soon.

I really don’t like Song Hwa and I hate that they’re trying to make her seem at all sympathetic by portraying her as feeling badly about things. Regardless of her feeling badly afterwards, she still does the selfish thing. I don’t doubt that she’s the one that kissed him first, starting the whole thing. (Not that I’m not blaming Sang Chul about the affair, but the woman won’t feel any guilt for being the impetus for the mother’s suicide.) Why does Wang Ji Hye keep playing these evil roles? Because I really liked her in ‘Protect the Boss.’ None of the other characters I’ve seen her play have been likeable. Why is that?

I honestly think that Sang Chul’s going to eventually realize that he *did* love his wife, but fear of her father made him run away from that, too. And who is the Grandfather to Director Hong? It seems like they’re an old fling. Maybe first love? Since we all know k-dramas love to fixate on first loves. If it is that, I can see Bok Nyeo being the impetus to healing Grandpa’s heart, too.

We’ve only seen 5 of the 20 episodes. What will happen next? And will Bok Nyeo end up a real girl with emotions and possibly love? I will stop watching if they rehabilitate Song Hwa, because she’s done several things that I consider inexcusable: drive the mother to suicide and then not admit it, claim she was sexually harassed so that dad loses his job but she keeps hers. Tweaking with his emotions, even after she knew he felt more than she did. She’s just vile.
