She Was Pretty Episode 12 Recap

Episode begins with Hye Jin frantic at the airport. Her Oma’s VO says that Ha Ri’s Mom said she came because she wanted to take Ha Ri with her. So Hye Jin knows that there’s another thing that Ha Ri didn’t tell her about. Then the hotel worker who said that Manager Min turned in her resignation and left. Hye Jin is really freaking. Ha Ri must've really left. Min Ha Ri. How can you just leave like this? If you leave like this, if you leave this way, what is she supposed to do, Ha Ri? Hye Jin weeps.

Later, Hye Jin sitting, despondent, on a bench in the airport, looking at the list from Ha Ri’s bed. Ha Ri walks by and notices her. She says Hye Jin’s name but Hye Jin doesn’t answer. She asks what Hye Jin is doing there. Hye Jin finally realizes that she’s there and immediately hugs Ha Ri. Ha Ri asks how Hye Jin knew she was going to the airport. Hye Jin starts to yell at her for leaving like this without saying anything! Where is Ha Ri going without her? Don't go, Ha Ri! Hye Jin starts to loudly cry again.

Ha Ri looks around, uncomfortable at the spectacle that Hye Jin is making. Ha Ri asks Hye Jin what she’s talking about. Where is she (Ha Ri)going? Hye Jin asks about Ha Ri going to Japan with her mom. Ha Ri says that she just came to see her mother off at the airport. Crying sniffles from Hye Jin – the kind that you make when you’ve cried really hard and are having a hard time catching your breath.

Ha Ri, a little annoyed, give Hye Jin a ‘ya!’ After doing something that terrible to Hye Jin, where would she go? She gently smoothes the hair away from Hye Jin’s face and asks if she came all the way to the airport because Hye Jin thought she was leaving without saying anything. Hye Jin nods. After clarifying that Ha Ri *really* isn’t going, Hye Jin starts to cry again, this time in relief. Ha Ri hugs Hye Jin and, starting to cry herself, asks where she’s going to go without Hye Jin? How can she go? For the rest of Hye Jin’s life, Ha Ri’s going to stick to her like a piece of gum. She's going to apologize for a very long time. Aw. I’m glad that Hye Jin’s faith in her friend was deserved. They hug some more.

Back at their apartment, Hye Jin asks Ha Ri what happened with her mom? Did they make up? Ha Ri says that they did. They spent a few days together and talked a lot. Ha Ri said that she could never understand how Mom could leave her behind, but now, she feels like she can understand Mom a little bit. So does that mean that Ha Ri knew that her mother was alive? It didn’t seem like it, not from what she or Hye Jin’s Oma said. Not as Mom’s daughter, but as a woman. Hye Jin is relieved.

Then Hye Jin asks why Ha Ri resigned and got rid of her handphone. And what did Ha Ri do with all her clothes and shoes? Ha Ri says that she did something so absurd – the stuff with Sung Joon – because she was too immature.

We see Ha Ri cut up her credit card as she says that she was working a job her dad got for her and she bought everything she wanted with Dad's card.

We see Ha Ri sell all her clothes as she says that she kept complaining while getting everything handed to her and she kept going out with a bunch of guys whether she cared for them or not.

She writes her Letter of Resignation.

Ha Ri says that while doing that... she got greedy... over something she should have never been greedy about. When she saw Hye Jin, she felt like she was going to cry. What she should say and how she should say it, she didn’t have the courage, so she ran away. Like a child. Ha Ri’s eyes are starting to water. She says that she couldn't say the one thing she should say… She takes Hye Jin’s hand and solemnly says that she’s sorry. She’s very sorry. She sighs and asks how she could have done something like this to Hye Jin. She’s so sorry. Hye Jin nods and gives Ha Ri a small smile as she accepts Ha Ri’s apology. They smile at each other.

Sung Joon is at work. He’s fallen asleep on his couch and wakes with a start. He’s sweating and panting. Boss’s VO says that they did narrow the gap, but the magazine’s still second. They only care about the results! It's all worthless if Most Korea is not on the top of the rank! Why are they so fixated on being #1. This guy is really beginning to annoy me. Boss reminds Sung Joon not to forget. If he doesn't make it this last time, Most Korea will be gone forever and it all depends on him! Sung Joon sighs heavily.

Hye Jin asks Ha Ri what she’s going to do. They’re drinking beer now. Ha Ri says that she’s thinking about giving herself sometime. How is she planning on paying her bills, since she quit her job and cut up her father’s credit card? Or are they going to live off of Hye Jin’s salary now? What can she do on her own? Hye Jin smiles and says that it seems like the hotel wants her back. Ha Ri declares that she’ll never go back there! From now on, she’s going to do everything on her own. Everything! Hye Jin laughs.

Hye Jin gets a text. It’s Sung Joon. He’s near her house and wants to see if she can come out for a minute. Ha Ri announces that she’s going to take a shower. Hye Jin abruptly says that she’s going to the convenience store for a second. Why is she covering up that she’s meeting Sung Joon? Ha Ri asks if Hye Jin wants her to come. Hye Jin quickly answers, “No.” Ha Ri doesn’t think anything of it and goes to take her shower.

Hye Jin meets Sung Joon out at a park. She asks why he’s there so late. Did he just leave work? He tells her to wait. Just ten seconds. She stands there and he’s just standing there. She asks him what he’s doing. But he just stands there and counts down. After reaching one, Sung Joon smiles and announces that he’s going. Hye Jin is confused. He says that he just came to see her. He thought it would help him get energized. Dork. He chuckles.

Hye Jin asks if he’s okay. He looks really tired. Does he have to be in first place by pushing himself this much? Sung Joon’s face momentarily shows the weight and then he hides it again, saying that it’s not something which only concerns him. Hye Jin asks what he means. He says that when he was given this mission, it was not only about The Most folding or not, but he was also given the responsibility for all the team members. Even if The Most disappeared, there will be some people who'll be fine, but there will also certainly be people who will be affected, people who are still lacking experience and ability. It's not just about success and failure, but about responsibility too, so he just can't do it half-heartedly. He smiles widely, like it’s not weighing on him.

Hye Jin says that doing it by himself is too difficult. Sung Joon answers that if it looks that difficult, maybe Hye Jin should hug him. A hug will help a lot. He chuckles. Hye Jin looks down, uncomfortable. Sung Joon sighs and says that he’s saying nonsense again after telling her that he wouldn’t pressure her. He bids her good night and to sleep well.

Sung Joon returns home. Shin Hyuk emerges from the bathroom behind him, wearing only a towel. That and a big grin on his face. Why is he in Sung Joon’s apartment, wearing only a towel? He doesn’t say anything. He is such a dork! Whose body does not fit the scruff on his face! Sung Joon turns around as he goes to sits on his couch and the shock of Shin Hyuk sitting there makes him fall onto the floor. Shin Hyuk giggles and asks if Sung Joon’s home.

Sung Joon sputters, asking why Shin Hyuk is in his apartment again. Shin Hyuk says that he took a shower. And you couldn’t do that at your place? His body was feeling a little stiff. That water pressure is great, too! Sung Joon stares at him in shock. Someone calls that they have delivery! Sung Joon calls out that he never ordered anything. Shin Hyuk says that it was him. He was hungry. He didn't get to eat dinner.

As Shin Hyuk goes to get the food, his towel drops. Sung Joon’s eyes bulge as Shin Hyuk slowly turns around. Sung Joon makes a choking sound and quickly covers his eyes. Shin Hyuk asks if he’s all right. He must be really surprised. Eyes still covered, Sung Joon kicks at him. I’m chuckling, but I’m also wondering why Sung Joon is such a prude. Don’t they have bath houses in Korea, where everyone is naked? Shin Hyuk says that he’s sorry. Sung Joon shakes his head and Shin Hyuk laughs to himself because he was able to torment Sung Joon again. He grabs the towel.

Later – now dressed – Sung Joon plops a pile of papers on to the coffee table and says that he thought about this and that and the ideas they developed at the planning meeting. After he stayed locked up at home for two days determined to think up ideas, they were just crazily flowing from his head. Sung Joon says that this is why he resists being resolute most of the time. Is he perhaps... goofy grin again – a genius? He sticks some food in his mouth and licks his fingers, never taking his eyes off of Sung Joon – just to annoy him, of course. Sung Joon rolls his eyes and passes Shin Hyuk some napkins. They are in a box. Interesting idea. As Shin Hyuk takes a few, he gives Sung Joon a glance, smiling to himself.

Sung Joon asks if this means that Sung Joon will be returning. Shin Hyuk says – looking disinterested – that since their Deputy Chief Editor has so desperately hung on to him, he’s decided to just stay. Punctuated again with a smile. Sung Joon looks over his ideas and stops on one. This item has not been fully developed yet, and this one is already being done. New Look has been pouring three months of active research into this topic. Shin Hyuk’s surprised.

Sung Joon tells Shin Hyuk that the article on café culture should not just focus on the phenomenon in Korea, but also be comparing it to European café cultures in the past for a more interesting piece. Shin Hyuk is frowning. Sung Joon thinks of Woody Allen's movie, ‘Midnight in Paris,’ and says that it will be of some use as a reference. Shin Hyuk says that he knew that much, too – but his face says that he totally wasn’t. He makes a small grimace.

Another page and Sung Joon says that it should be assigned to Editor Kim Poong Ho. Contrary to his looks, Poong Ho’s quite meticulous and will do research and analyze comparisons quite well. Next page, Sung Joon says that Editor Cha Joo Young’s article in the 8th issue, published last year, will be useful. Wow, he’s done his homework on the magazine. Amazed, Shin Hyuk asks if Sung Joon’s a Knee-Drop Guru? How can he know everything?

Knee Drop Guru was a segment on the ‘Golden Fishery’ talk show broadcast on MBC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Fishery
The Knee-Drop Guru supposedly listens to the guests’ problems and solves them. His name indicates that he knows everything before the clients kneel down in front of him. However, he actually attacks the guests with tough questions and leads the guests to talk about many unknown things about themselves. After all, The Knee-Drop Guru is a talk show, even though it doesn't seem like one.

Instead of answering that, Sung Joon asks why Shin Hyuk had the sudden change of heart. Shin Hyuk said that he wasn’t somebody that could be held onto. Shin Hyuk agrees and wonders why it changed. Then she says that it just became fun again. After hearing that the magazine may become discontinued, he gained a strange sense of motivation. Jumping into a game without knowing the chances of winning... he does happen to be quite fond of that kind of thing. Since he is, as Sung Joon knows, a crazy idiot. Instead of giving up before even trying, he plans on properly going through with it until the end. Might as well, since chances are 50/50. Sung Joon nods. He looks a little emotional, like he can’t believe that Shin Hyuk’s going to help him.

Shin Hyuk slaps his knees as he stands, announcing that he’s going. He tells Sung Joon not to come to him if Sung Joon dreams about him. That is a weird saying. He pokes Sung Joon for emphasis. Sung Joon rolls his eyes and tells Shin Hyuk what useless concerns Shin Hyuk has. Shin Hyuk nods and leaves. But before he does, he notices Sung Joon’s smiling onion. He gives it a broad smile and leaves.

Driving, Shin Hyuk talks to someone on the phone (in English). He apologizes that he can't make it for this time. No no, it's just, funny things are happening. Nothing special. He smiles and says that he missed Caller, too. So let him call back soon, alright? He hangs up. Who is this person? It’s not a girl, since he’s in love with Hye Jin. But who could it be? His Mom? A sibling? A cousin?

Next day, Hye Jin is frantically getting ready for work, since she’s late! Ha Ri brings her jacket and gives Hye Jin a final inspection before Hye Jin leaves. Hye Jin starts to leave but comes back and asks if she said that she loves Ha Ri. Ha Ri smiles. Hye Jin makes a heart with her arms and tells Ha Ri that she loves her. Then she leaves.

Hye Jin rides the bus to work.

♫ Thump, thump, thump, my heart tells me gently. Listen tome. La-la-la ♫

Shin Hyuk pulls up along side the bus on his bike and notices her, but she doesn’t notice him. He smiles to himself.

♫ It's like beautiful music. It's even prettier.♫

Hye Jin is waiting at an intersection. Shin Hyuk walks up next to her and doesn’t say anything.

♫ One, two, three, four, too many things I love about you. As much as heaven and earth. ♫

Hye Jin is listening to music, so she doesn’t notice him at all, even when he directly looks at her. He smiles to himself.

♫ I will tell you now. ♫

He decides to announce himself. He pushes in her knee with his, so she almost falls over, calling her, “Jackson!”

♫ I'm going to keep you forever. ♫

She glares at him, even though he’s grinning goofily at her, until she realizes that it’s him. He offers her a lick of his sucker. She screams and jumps up and down, asking if he’s returned. He says, “Probably?” as the light changes and they head across the street. Hye Jin happily says that she thought Shin Hyuk had left for good. It's such a relief. Acting nonchalant, Shin Hyuk asks what's with such an overly passionate welcome. She's making his heart flutter again. She was so happy to see him that her thought he was Badookie (a Korean dog). He starts singing and dancing that it’s Wagging its tail excitedly to see her and going woof woof woof! He points and tells her that they should go, Coco(another dog name). I so want one! Where’s my Shin Hyuk? She smiles widely that her friend is back and follows.

As they walk, she says why he didn't come to work all this time. Pulling the sucker out of his mouth, he asks why she thinks he didn’t come? Does she really not know the reason? As she struggles to ask if it was because of her, he flutters his nostrils at her. Then he starts to laugh loudly. Really? Is she really thinking that he hasn't been coming to work because of Jackson? Because he got rejected after confessing? Ah, yeah. That’s exactly why. Hye Jin laughs loudly – that laugh she makes when she’s going along with someone making fun of her – and says that she must have princess syndrome. Who is she to think that he wouldn't come to work because of her... hahaha!

Shin Hyuk stops laughing and seriously says that it's true. He didn’t come because of her. She’s surprised. He says that after she kicked him to the curb like that, he pounds his chest to emphasize it and says that there was a huge hole made right there, and nothing really seemed fun. Hye Jin starts to say something but Shin Hyuk says that he’s fine now. He pulls the sucker out again and, arms wide, practically shouts that it became fun again! Then he just walks away.

Hye Jin wonders what he meant by that. She hurries after him and asks why things became fun again? He answers, “Who knows...” Then he asks her if she knows the saying “It ain't over 'til it's over.”? She recognizes the quote from Yogi Berra.

Yogi Berra said this about the 1973 National League pennant race. His team was far out of first place, but they eventually rallied to win the division title. For more information, check out How people started saying 'It ain't over till it's over' from the BBC, 'It ain't over till it's over' and other lessons from Chairman Yogi Berra from the LA Times, or this set of Other Yogi Berra-isms by Retrogalaxy.com.

He tells her that she’s a smarty. She asks why he’s asking about that saying all of a sudden? He says that it’s just because... It suddenly popped into his head. And why do I get the feeling that he’s not talking about the magazine. I was thinking that he was talking about the magazine, but now…"It ain't over 'til it's over"... Quite a great saying, doesn’t she think? He climbs onto the elevator.

Shin Hyuk enters and channels Ra Ra as he says “Buongiorno!” Everyone is shocked and thrilled to see him. They start beating on him. He tells them that these welcome-back punches are a bit too aggressive. They hit him even more (and harder). Hye Jin gives a few good pounds, too. Shin Hyuk looks over at Sung Joon and gives him a smile and a salute. Sung Joon gives him a nod back. In his office, Sung Joon shakes his head and says that it looks like it will become noisy again. Then he smiles.

Sung Joon exits his office and asks how the main interview for the 20th anniversary issue is going. Joo Young says that they are in the middle of contacting Leonard Kim but... Then the group talks about how Leonard Kim was a fashionista who became a director and won an award from the Venice Film Festival, so he’s highly sought-after these days. But, he's famous for not giving interviews. Will he be willing to do one with them? Joo Young tells Sung Joon that it seems too risky. They should go with Kim Shin Hye. Kim Shin Hye is an artist from Seoul. For more information, check out Paintings by Kim Shin Hye or
Akive's compilation of her CV and artwork.

Indignant, Shin Hyuk asks why they shouldn't be pursuing Leonard Kim until the end? It's not like the possibility is 0%. Sung Joon declares that since Leonard Kim is famous for not doing interviews, if they set one up– Shin Hyuk finishes his sentence: They will become a talking point. Sung Joon gives Shin Hyuk a glance/glare and says that as the first of the Asian magazines to do so– Shin Hyuk finishes his sentence again that achieving first place nationally will be a given. Sung Joon points out that New Look was able to setup one with the ‘Trilogy of Lust’ movie team– Shin Hyuk finishes, asking why they can’t set one up with Director Leonard Kim. He looks over at Sung Joon and gives him a broad smile. Sung Joon nods in his direction. This gets people whispering about the bromance.

Shin Hyuk declares that that’s right! For what it's worth, they should go for it! It's the 20th anniversary edition next anyway. They should just get 1st place while they're at it. Joo Young tells him that he’s so motivated, which is quite unlike him. Ah Reum asks if something happened to him while he took a break? Shin Hyuk smiles but doesn’t answer.

Sung Joon starts to organize everything, but his nose begins to bleed. Shin Hyuk runs away. And you would think that he was about to die the way that everyone starts fussing. Poong Ho and Joon Woo fight over which way Sung Joon should lean to stop it, pulling him backward and forward. Finally, Sung Joon yells that it’s fine! Joo Young asks if Sung Joon’s going to be able to attend a business meeting on Jeju Island tomorrow. Because he had a nose bleed? Sung Joon seems tired. Sung Joon says that he’s fine. He'll take care of it.

Hye Jin is working at her desk, stealing looks in at Sung Joon. She worries about him being pale and not getting any sleep. She’s so distracted that she doesn’t realize that she’s started typing gibberish. Poong Ho points it out and pretends to be ET.

Later, Hye Jin presents Sung Joon with the minutes. She mentions the nosebleed. He says that he’s fine. She says that he doesn't really look fine. He says that he is. Snore. He asks if he should pick up his desk to convince her. She stops him and he smiles. He tells her that it’s nice that she’s worrying about him. Hye Jin gives him a bow and leaves. Sung Joon takes a sip of his coffee and realizes that it’s burdock tea from Hye Jin (which is supposed to be good for nosebleeds).

Seol is working. She gets a text from Joon Woo asking to go back to that Jjampong (spicy noodle)place after work. She replies that she doesn't feel good today. Joon Woo runs over, concerned. Why? Where is she sick? Is she okay?! She mumbles that her head hurts. He worries that she has a cold! Or body ache? The chills? He reaches over and grabs her head, feeling her forehead. Seol tells herself not to get excited! You can't get excited! She mumbles that it's not that bad and runs away after Sunbae Ah Ra Eum.

Joo Young calls Hye Jin over and says that they’ll have to postpone the meeting about Hye Jin’s fairy tale article until tomorrow. Shin Hyuk raises his hand and ‘votes’ for Editor Kim Shin Hyuk. He has a tendency to have a good knack for ideas and verbiage, so he'll take a look for her. Joo Young gives him a fist bump of thanks. Hye Jin tries to stick with Joo Young, but she’s stuck. Shin Hyuk asks if Jackson’s, by any chance, become a bit uncomfortable with him? Like a country bumpkin? His face is cracking me up again. She protests, exaggeratedly, that that's not it! She… has a reason to be a little apologetic too.

He tells her that they should let the coin decide. If it’s heads, he’ll take a look at her article, and if it's tails, he won't. Okay? She says no but he flips anyway. He triumphantly declares that it’s the general! She yells loudly asking how that’s heads? That's tails! He said that the general is tails before! His face completely innocent, he says that Jackson was right. The general is heads. He checked with the Mint. She asks if he really checked with the Mint? She looks a little pleased. He slides over and puts his arm around her, saying that they will have a meeting in ten minutes and gives her a wink.

In the conference room, Shin Hyuk asks if Jackson really wrote the article. He says that the basic direction and subject is great, but if you can't grab the reader with the first line, there's no use for the article. He shows her two magazine articles. The subject is the same, but which one does she notice more? He points out one and she agrees. He asks why it’s so: Because he wrote it. He smiles and she smiles back. He starts giving her lots of tips, including keeping a scrapbook of good subject ideas and sentences.

At the end of it, Hye Jin sighs and says that Shin Hyuk is really good at his job. He looks like a different person. He sighs and asks if she finally came to a realization about him. Well, by seeing how tirelessly he works, did she feel something new and such? She has no idea what he’s getting at. And I am shaking my head. He says that the way he sees it, she’s fallen for a hard-working man. He’s sure that she found his professionalism very sexy. Did she feel slightly excited? She starts to protest and he says that he hasn't shown her what kind of person and what kind of a man he is yet. He told her. It ain't over 'til it's over. And he gives her a proud little smile.

Hye Jin tries to let him down easy, saying that she likes him very, very much— He interrupts her, asking, “Really?!” like he’s shocked. She likes him. Very, very, at that. As Hye Jin starts to react (and contradict him) he says that okay, he accepts. She likes him. Very, very. With an impish grin, he waves his finger in a circle in front of her face and says that she does. He stands up and takes a few steps, but not far enough that he can’t wave his finger in face again and say that she did. Then he walks away. Hye Jin mutters that what he’s said isn't it.

Seol is walking down the hall. Joon Woo hurries up, a plastic bag in his hand. He pulls out an electronic thermometer and sticks it in her ear. She has a slight temperature. He wasn't sure which kind to get, so he bought all different kinds: for headaches, for body aches, for runny nose, and if she gets a fever, take this one. Aw, that is too sweet. She needs to hang onto this one! Joo Young walks by and tells Joon Woo to come with her. Before he hurries off to comply, he puts the bag in Seol’s hands and tells her not to take the medicine on an empty stomach, so make sure she eats something first, okay? She definitely needs to keep this one. Someone who dotes on you when you’re sick. Definite keeper. Seol watches him walk away and whines, asking why he’s so nice and lovable. Why isn’t he the president's son? You’re not going to be poor if you end up with him…

Hye Jin enters the office after getting Onionnie some water. The group (minus Joo Young, Joon Woo, and Shin Hyuk) are loudly doing the ladder game. Hye Jin notices that Sung Joon is asleep at his desk. The group gets louder. Hye Jin hurries over and fiercely grabs the paper. Everyone stops and looks at her. Poong Ho asks if she’s looking for a fight. She covers by saying that she was thinking about treating everyone. She holds up her credit card and says – with her fake going-along-with-it voice and laugh – that she felt like treating everyone today, that's why. She tells them that she already ate and hurries them out of the office. Then she checks Sung Joon and sees that he’s still asleep.

Hye Jin sits at her desk. Ra Ra enters – channeling Donna Summer in the 70’s –loudly singing in Italian. Hye Jin hurries over and silences Ra Ra by putting afinger to Ra Ra’s lips. Ra Ra asks what she’s doing and Hye Jin realizes what she’s doing. Immediately she lets go and fixes Ra Ra’s lipstick. Ra Ra thanks ‘her lint’ and walks away, no longer singing. And Ra Ra doesn’t even really think anything of the strangeness. Heh. But Sung Joon is still asleep.

Hye Jin walks and gently puts a throw over the sleeping Sung Joon. Shin Hyuk walks into the office and sees it. He’s definitely not over it. He sadly sighs and drops his head for a moment.

Later, Shin Hyuk finds her in the hall and proposed they go do something that's the most fun in the whole world. She asks, interested. He leans in close to her face and says that it’s something else. He eagerly says, which his charming smile, that they should go, go! She tries to get out of it by saying that she has to give what she’s holding to Sunbae Poong Ho. He grabs her and starts to walk off with her, telling her that it doesn't matter if she gives it to him thirty minutes later. It's nice, in this heartless world, to take a breather and a little tea-time. And tea-time in Korean is ‘tea-time.’

They head to a café – and the server is the one who always brings Sung Joon his coffee, so it’s the same café. Shin Hyuk orders an iced Americano. Hye Jin orders an Americano, too. Server asks if the girlfriend want it iced, too. Heh. Hye Jin starts to protest and Shin Hyuk matter-of-factly says that she’s not his girlfriend. Then he puts his arm around her and adds, “Yet.” And I laugh. Then he lets go and asks for the cake, too. Hye Jin says, “But...”He looks over at her and gives her his ‘I’m teasing’ smile so she stops.

They sit – and the café is called Hollys Coffee – with Hye Jin sipping her Americano and Shin Hyuk tapping the arms of his chair and nodding his head, like he’s passing the time. She decides to try to tackle it again and says that she *really* likes him, but– He cuts her off, like he’s shocked, and says that she’s confessing again. Not just like, but very, very! Then he smiles. She sighs loudly with a pained look on her face. She says that she’s not really sure how to tell him this, but… but it's that— She looks up and Shin Hyuk has stuck 2 straws in his mouth like he’s a walrus. He asks if this is why Hye Jin like him. Then he acts like a walrus and Hye Jin starts to laugh.

He pulls the straws out of his mouth and exhales, smiling. The way she smiles at him because she’s so happy to see him. Hye Jin immediately stops smiling and clears her throat. She says that it's not that, but what she’s saying is— He holds up his hand to stop her. He’s making another goofy face and asks if it’s why she likes him. She can’t help but laugh again. And it’s not why I like you, Shin Hyuk. Yes, you’re funny, but you’re more than just that.

Hye Jin protests – with Shin Hyuk giving her his serious face – that she doesn’t think that being this ambiguous is right— Again he interrupts and asks if Jackson doesn’t like him. She responds, “No!” Why wouldn’t she like him? He answers that that's it then. There's enough probability. He told her. It ain't over till it's over. I hope so. He leans forward with that finger again – like he’s trying to hypnotize her – and says that in the end, she’ll come to him. Hye Jin watches it go round and round and Shin Hyuk raises one eyebrow. He snaps his fingers and, with a big smile on his face, says that he’ll be going. Hye Jin calls after him, but he ignores her. She sighs sadly and asks why he makes her feel so sorry.

Hye Jin comes home from work and Ha Ri has gotten some pizza. Hye Rin is there, too. Hye Jin is wary why Hye Rin is there. Hye Rin says that she thought Unni Ha Ri might have a lot of time left over, so she thought she could talk to her about this and that. Ha Ri gives her an affectionate smile. Hye Jin’s phone rings. Hye Rin asks if it isn't Oppa Sung Joon. Hye Jin immediately looks at Ha Ri to see her reaction. Ha Ri tries to act like it’s totally fine. Hye Jin snaps at Hye Rin that it’s not! She tells Joo Young that she emailed what Joo Young’s calling about. At least she wasn’t lying there.

Hye Jin lightly says that she’ll go get changed quickly and come eat. Ha Ri is eating less enthusiastically now. Hye Rin leans into Unni Ha Ri and tells her that Hye Jin has someone who's chasing after her. Does Ha Ri know what the funny part is? Hye Jin’s playing hard to get! That's just comical! From her room, Hye Jin cringes. Ha Ri’s not doing much better. Hye Rin continues that classmates or not, the way she sees it, something's wrong with that Oppa's eyes, or he has really bad taste in women. It's one or the other.

Hye Jin hurries out and shoves a piece of pizza in Hye Rin’s mouth, telling her to eat a lot. That's how she’ll grow tall! Hye Rin pulls the pizza out of her mouth and says that Oppa even came to their house recently. Hye Jin grabs Hye Rin’s cheeks and declares that she’s so pretty! How can she be this pretty! Ha Ri isn’t fooled. Hye Rin glares at Hye Jin and tell her to let go before she gets mad.

Later, Hye Jin is in bed. Ha Ri enters and tells her to come. Hye Jin goes to Ha Ri’s room, where Ha Ri presents her with a box. Hye Jin opens it and it’s a pair of shiny, pretty shoes. Hye Jin asks why these shoes all of a sudden. Ha Ri says that she told Hye Jin that she would buy Hye Jin a pair of shoes. Ha Ri’s trying to act normal so that Hye Jin doesn’t feel bad about things with Sung Joon. Ha Ri leans in and affectionately asks if Hye Jin likes them. Hye Jin does, but she doesn’t think they really suit her. Ha Ri’s face falls slightly.

Hye Jin hands back the box, telling Ha Ri to go exchange them for her size and wear them. She’ll just buy some comfortable ones. Ha Ri sighs, frowning – but not because she’s hurt, more because she’s annoyed at Hye Jin being stubborn. Has Hye Jin heard of the saying that "if you wear good shoes, they'll take you to good places"? Ha Ri holds out the shoe box and tells Hye Jin to wear these shoes, and get to a good place. Her voice gets a little firmer – like it’s an order – and she tells Hye Jin not to think about other things, and not to worry about anything. Go wherever she wants to go. Somewhere she wants to go.

Ha Ri says that it's going to be uncomfortable at first. She’ll have to pay a lot of attention when she walks. But, they will become comfortable soon. They will for sure be comfortable enough that she won’t notice them. Shoes as a subtext again for that relationship with Sung Joon. Ha Ri sure likes shoes. Hye Jin says that she’s fine just staying like this.

Again, correcting her stubborn friend, Ha Ri calls her a stuffy person. Ha Ri spells it out: She’s saying that Hye Jin doesn’t have to think about her. She’s telling Hye Jin to go to Ji Sung Joon! If Hye Jin keeps doing this, she would be too sorry for Hye Jin that she couldn’t stay around Hye Jin. Hye Jin says that she is okay with just being friends with Sung Joon. Ha Ri says that Ji Sung Joon is a person whose heart keeps going to Hye Jin even when she tried so hard to hold onto him. He’s waiting for Hye Jin. Every second, every minute that passes is hard for him. Hye Jin starts to look like she feels bad.

Ha Ri steps forward and puts her hands on Hye Jin’s shoulders and says that she is really okay. Sure, she did lie about being okay before. But, right now, she’s really... she’s really okay. So, Hye Jin, go. Don’t worry about anything else.

Sung Joon is at work, working of course. He’s tired.

♫ Beside me, you, not some other person,♫

He looks at his watch: it’s a little after 11.

♫ are always looking. ♫

He makes his way over to Hye Jin’s dark house.

♫ The way you talk and look are not unfamiliar. ♫

He gazes up at the windows with longing.

♫ You are the person I've been waiting for ♫

He pulls out his phone and has second thoughts.

♫ Perhaps I, because I don't know love, ♫
♫ I am afraid I can't even say anything ♫

Inside, Hye Jin is staring at the shoes.

♫ You were always with me, but I am afraid you still don’t know♫

She thinks of how Sung Joon said that he won't push her. Just don't run away. She’s the woman that he likes right now.

♫ It seems I don't know. It seems I don't know anyone except you. ♫

Sung Joon is still outside her house, waiting to see if she’ll come out.

♫ It seems I don't know anything else except to love you ♫
♫ Your voice calling me (My voice calling you). Your eyes looking at me (My eyes looking at you) ♫
♫ It seems you love me too ♫

He finally leaves, right before Hye Jin opens her window.

♫ It seems you don't know anyone except me. ♫

As Sung Joon walks past the grocery store, he notices Princess the dog. He says her name. She tries to go over and greet him, but her chain is too short. He sits out of reach. He tells Princess that waiting... is harder than he thought. He returns home to his empty house. You just need to have Shin Hyuk move in with you. Bromance! He opens his refrigerator and it’s completely empty. He mutters that it’s like that. He slumps down into a chair in the kitchen and looks over at his smiling onion. He stays there for a long time.

Hye Jin is now wearing the shoes. As she walks to work, she passes Princess and notices Sung Joon’s scarf around her neck. She realizes that Sung Joon came by. She tells Princess that Unni isn't going to run away anymore. She hurries off with the scarf. She’s decidedly in a better mood as she waits at the bus stop. Ha Ri arrives to give her a ride to work. Ha Ri says that it’s the last time. She’s taking Hye Jin to work for the last time, because she’s selling the car.

As Hye Jin exits the car, she wishes Ha Ri good luck in selling the car. She shouldn’t have too much of a problem. It’s a 2015 Ford Fusion.Ha Ri calls after her that those shoes look great on her! She gives her thumbs up as she says that Our Hye Jin is so pretty! The best! Hye Jin does the heart ‘I love you’ sign with her arms. As she hurries away, Ha Ri calls out a ‘Fighting!’

As Ha Ri drives, she sticks her hand out the window to feel the air rush across her finger. She’s pensive and a little sad. She pulls her hand back in and sighs, putting on a happy face and telling herself that she feels so relieved!

Hye Jin enters work and greets everyone. No one notices the shoes. She hurries to her desk and looks for Sung Joon. He’s not in his office. Joo Young tells them that she and Sung Joon had a meeting with the art team that morning and he just left to go to another meeting. Hye Jin grabs the scarf and rushes out, trying to catch him.

Hye Jin spots him in the hall but doesn’t catch him before he makes it to the elevator. He doesn’t see her. And she doesn’t yell at him to get his attention either. I would. She decides that she can just tell him later.

Joon Woo arrives with coffee for everyone. He mentions that he ran into Photographer Kang at the coffee shop. Kang said he was in a meeting with the Deputy Chief Editor. Ah Reum complains that hers didn’t get any syrup. Hye Jin immediately jumps up, grabs the coffee and runs out. I sigh. Sometimes, when she’s like this, it’s annoying.

Reaching Hollys Coffee, she starts hunting around for Sung Joon. Photographer Kang spots her and asks if she’s Hye Jin. She greets him and tries to casually ask about Sung Joon… He’s just left. Didn't she see him? She hurries out. She spots Sung Joon’s car as he drives away. She frowns and, sadly looking at the scarf, says that she can see him at the office later. Not that she couldn’t call him or anything. Tell him she needs to talk to him.

As Hye Jin returns to The Most office, Joo Young is on the phone with Sung Joon. He’s on his way to Jeju and will be returning on the four o’clock flight. Hye Jin listens over Joo Young’s shoulder and startles her. Hye Jin returns to her desk and sighs. She looks up the weather in Jeju, hoping that it doesn’t rain while he’s driving. Did he eat?

Later, Hye Jin is in the conference room. Shin Hyuk enters, saying that they should have a meeting. Hye Jin is leaning over a table with her coat over her shoulders like a blanket. She’s taking a nap. He sits next to her with a smile and then leans in to look at her with longing as leans his cheek into his hand. He softly tells Jackson to look at him, too. He smiles softly.

Later, Poong Ho asks Hye Jin for a file, so she goes into Sung Joon’s office to find it. She finds a sketch he’d made of her, eating seaweed at the beach. She laughs at the memory. There’s another of the farming outfit and her trying to put on the bandage on her finger. She smiles again. A sketch of her kissing her badge, falling asleep at her desk, untying Princess. She is touched and starts to cry. And I miss her hair.

Hye Jin sits sadly at her desk, wanting to see Sung Joon. Poong Ho asks if she wants to go to the movie preview party with them. She looks down at her shoes. She makes a decision, runs in and grabs the sketchbook and hurries out. Joo Young asks where she’s running off to? She stops long enough to say “Somewhere nice.”

♫ Even though my eyes are closed I feel your presence. ♫

At the airport, she sketches something in Sung Joon’s sketchbook. I knew she was going to go to the airport the minute she overheard that he’s coming back at 4.

♫ My heart's overflowing with the words 'I miss you'.♫
♫ but I can't say anything.♫

She misses Sung Joon walk by. He doesn’t see her because he’s on the phone with Joo Young.

♫ Your heart was walking far behind mine. ♫

Hye Jin waits for Sung Joon to arrive, but he’s walking out of the airport.

♫ You still don't know, you don't know ♫
♫ my love that's with you always ♫

She turns around, revealing what she drew: her and Sung Joon holding hands and waving. The page says “
Welcome Ji Sung Joon.” That’s sweet. And her hair is curly. Does this mean she’s going to go back to her regular hair?

♫ If you think of me once in a while, if you long for me once in a while ♫

She decides to tie his scarf around her neck for added emphasis.

♫ If you laugh at me once in a while, it's okay. ♫

As Sung Joon starts to leave the airport, he almost passes out. He catches himself – they’re at Gimpo International Airport – and shakes his head. Then he passes out. Hye Jin waits anxiously for Sung Joon. She checks the time and no Sung Joon. She waits and waits. No Sung Joon. She decides to call him. No answer. She doesn’t leave a message.

Returning to The Most, Joo Young is on the phone. She’s talking with Poong Ho about Sung Joon. She says that it's a relief. Since he was working so hard, it would be more strange if he didn't collapse. Poong Ho is at the hospital with Sung Joon. Hye Jin asks if someone collapsed. She almost starts to cry as Joo Young tells her about it. Joo Young says that there's no way he could withstand all that. It's not like he's made of steel.

Hye Jin hurries to get to Sung Joon. She’s so concerned that she doesn’t even notice or hear Shin Hyuk in the hallway. He decides to follow her. She tries frantically to get a taxi, but they don’t stop. He arrives with his car and tells her to get in. She says that she can't. She's going to Sung Joon right now. He looks away for a moment – because it stings – and says that he knows. Get in. Aw, poor Shin Hyuk. She shakes her head ‘no.’ He sighs and gets out of the car. He makes her get in the car – as the triumphant music from ‘She’s Just Not That into You’ plays –and drives her to the hospital.

At the hospital he tries to cheerfully tell her to go inside. She says his name, sorry. He tells her that it’s okay. She’s going crazy worrying for him right now. She sighs and says that she shouldn't do this to him. No, you shouldn’t! He’s such a good person. He tries to keep that smile on his face. He was so kind to her, and being with him was nice and fun. He calls her his kind-hearted Jackson. He nods and says, “Okay, then.” One last time, they should flip a coin. If it's heads, he will leave without looking back, and if it's tails, he will hold onto her for the last time, so she can’t leave. He’s going to make me cry.

He flips it and catches it in his hand. They look at each other.

♫ My awkward confession which was too late. ♫

He doesn’t want to look. And he is making me cry.

♫ Because loving you more is better than always being far from you. ♫

He doesn’t look but puts his hands in his pocket. He tells Jackson to go. It’s heads. He’s got his fake smile on, but it’s really hard for him. Hye Jin’s eyes are watering – I can barely see to type–as she says, “Editor.” He thanks her for hesitating. The tears are welling in his eyes now. Really making me cry. He tells her to hurry up and go, or there's a chance he might change his mind! The smile is cracking now.

♫ But, at least just once ♫

She still hesitates. And I want to punch her. Stop torturing the man! Leave so he can stop putting on a brave face!

♫ You're the only one for me ♫

She sighs and goes. Finally.

♫ I'm disheartened. Like always, so that you can come to me someday, ♫

He watches her hurry inside.

♫ I'll be where you used to look, ♫

He looks down at the coin and it’s tails. Of course, it is. This song is killing me, too.

♫ just like this. ♫

He exhales heavily and tries not to cry.

Inside, Hye Jin hurries to Sung Joon’s VIP room. He’s asleep. With his sucrose drip, of course. She slowly approaches. She reaches out and caresses his hair. Without opening his eyes, he pulls her onto the bed, so she’s about an inch from his face. He opens his eyes. He says that it’s Kim Hye Jin. Like he’s surprised. He asks why she came. His voice sounds weak. Did she come because she was worried? She says she didn’t. She came to hug him.

♫ Perhaps I, because I don't know love ♫

Sung Joon just lies there – like he’s afraid to move. She leans in and hugs him.

♫ I am afraid I can't even say anything ♫

They hug each other and Sung Joon silently cries.

♫ I was always with you, I was always looking at you, ♫
♫ but I guess you still don't know. ♫

She pulls away and they look at each other.

♫ If you come a little closer, will you understand me? ♫

He softly caresses her face.

♫ Shall I wait a little longer? ♫
♫ The love which I started secretly for you by myself ♫

He leans in and they kiss.

♫ Shall we do it together now? ♫

And I gag a little. Yes, it’s a very sweet moment, but I wanted Shin Hyuk to get the girl. Episode ends.

♫ Maybe because I didn't know anyone else except you ♫
♫ I am unable to love another ♫
♫ My feelings are often strange. I am always waiting. ♫
♫ I'm afraid you still don't know how I feel ♫
♫ The words which cannot exist without you (The word is love) ♫
♫ The words I want to say when I look only at you ♫

Thoughts

Well, Hye Jin finally went to Sung Joon. I feel a little sick to my stomach. I was hoping that the writers weren’t going to take it there, that they’d break trope and have her end up with Shin Hyuk, but they didn’t. It would be nice if, just once, the heroine didn’t fall in love with the guy who acted like an absolute jerk and treated her horribly, but instead would choose the guy who was good to her, sensitive, and there for her, and supportive all along. Just once. And Shin Hyuk is such a deserving guy!!! And it was TAILS.

Not that Sung Joon – when he’s being nice – isn’t a kind and great person. It’s just that he was *such* a jerk to her *so often.* Like, way beyond what’s appropriate. No one should get treated that way. Yes, Sung Joon is much nicer since he stopped being torn, and people at work now care about him and don’t think he’s Crazy Joon. But he’s really uptight most of the time. He’s less so when his umbrella is around, but he still gets uptight often. I’m just really disappointed for Shin Hyuk. They shouldn’t have made him so awesome.

And part of me thinks that Sung Joon *shouldn’t* end up with Hye Jin just because so much of him was ‘missing’ when she was gone. It’s like he’s too dependent on her to be whole and that’s really not healthy. I honestly think that he could have a healthy relationship with Ha Ri, if it ever evolved into that. He’d have to forgive her first, but unlike some people, I actually think that he could be vulnerable with Ha Ri and they could have a good relationship where she tells him not to take himself or life so seriously.

I loved Ha Ri in this episode. I’ve always loved her, even when she was making some stupid decisions, but I love her even more, because she really *loves* Hye Jin and is a friend deserving of the faith that Hye Jin had in her. Giving her the shoes and telling her to go for it. That’s classy and just what Hye Jin needed. Ha Ri didn’t have to do that, but she wanted to make up for what she did, be that friend that they are to each other. I also love that she’s really going to be her own woman and got rid of everything that Dad had given her so she can be, including the car. That will give her spending money for a while. Her cars worth about $20,000 if she sells it at a dealership.

As I said before, I love Shin Hyuk. I love that he didn’t let the stuff with Jackson and any envy of Sung Joon keep him from helping out The Most. They both know that Jackson’s going to pick Sung Joon and he didn’t use that as a reason to be a jerk and sink Sung Joon. I loved how he ‘bounced back’ in an attempt to win her, again, saying “it ain’t over ‘til it’s over.” I really hope that’s true. Especially since the coin was TAILS. Poor guy.

And he’s just too darn cute when he’s goofy! That’s one thing that hurt me a little, too, that he kept asking her if silly Shin Hyuk is why she liked him. It makes me think of when he was down and that director didn’t want to do an interview with him because he wasn’t fun anymore. Like that’s all that Shin Hyuk has to offer anyone. He has so much more – and not just because he’s the Chairman’s son, either. He’s smart, observant, kind, self-denying, perceptive, confident, not afraid to speak up… Okay, I’ll stop listing his great qualities. I cannot recall a k-drama where I’ve wanted the 2ndlead to get the girl more. I felt really bad for the 2nd lead in ‘You’re Beautiful’ but he never had the courage to say that he liked the girl. And in ‘Shining Inheritance,’ again, the 2nd lead did all this stuff for the heroine, but never declared himself. (These are the 2 dramas where I have actually felt bad for the 2nd lead. I felt bad for Jihoo in ‘BOF’ but in ‘BOF’ and ‘Shining Inheritance’ I didn’t so much that the hero for the girl. Definitely was ticked about the lead getting the girl in ‘You’re Beautiful.’) Shin Hyuk, on the other hand, *did* declare himself as soon as he realized he liked her and pursued her, while still being a great friend to her and acting in her best interest. How is this fair, k-drama gods?
