We switch to Sa Kyung who is standing by a wall of paper decorations. She is dressed up in a cute jean jacket, white skirt combo. She takes a glance and it’s a quarter to seven. I realize that we *didn’t* miss their big date! She looks excited and I guess Pan Suk looked nervous before. She can’t help but smile as she messes with her hair.
Pan Suk looks at his watch and it’s 7. He’s waiting, waiting. More water. Guest come in and leave. The water bottle gets less full. At 7:28, he checks his phone. No message. Where could she be and then he realizes that she’s gone some place else. He mutters, “Chin cha! Darn it!” and runs out of the restaurant.
Sa Kyung isn’t smiling anymore. After she looks at her watch, she leaves where she was waiting. Pan Suk calls and she doesn’t take the call. She also turns the phone off.
Pan Suk is running up lots and lots of steps. He stops to catch his breath and then runs up some more. And luckily she’s on the same steps. They see each other and he smiles. She doesn’t. He starts toward her and she’s just going to walk by him but he grabs her arm and stops her. He tries to get her to listen but she tells him that she was foolish for thinking people could change. People don't change. Then she sarcastically tells him that at least he tried. It's better than not showing up at all. She tells him game over and wrenches her arm free. Arg!
As Sa Kyung turns to go, Pan Suk gasps/sputters, “It's not here, Sa Kyung.” Wherever she’s been – because I have no idea where this is, but feel like I should know –isn't the place they first met. She stops and laughs scoffingly as he says that. She doesn’t turn around. He can’t believe that she really doesn't remember. He tells her that a week before their first date there, they met by coincidence at the udon restaurant he was just at. He was with Dong Shik sunbae and when she came in with a friend Dong Shik sunbae introduced them. As Pan Suk says that he fell in love with her at first sight – aw! – Sa Kyung realizes that she was really wrong.
Pan Suk makes her turn around and then – because he’s awesome – he apologizes for making her wait. He promises to try harder and to ask if he don't know. He promises to call if he’s going to be late and even though he won't be perfect... he’ll improve little by little. She still hasn’t said anything. He asks her if she’s hungry and proposes they go down to the pork cutlet restaurant and eat. He’s still trying to head off and temper her wrath, although I don’t think she’s mad anymore. Sa Kyung doesn’t want to. She wants to go to the udon restaurant. Hee. Yay! She’s not mad. They start to go but Pan Suk’s legs give out and he falls to the ground with a clump. He tries to pretend that it’s nothing but he can’t get up and Sa Kyung starts to laugh. Then Pan Suk does, relieved more than anything. He struggles to his feet and then gingerly walks down to stand next to her. She’s still smiling. He gently puts his hand in the small of her back. She doesn’t object. They smile at each other and leave for the restaurant. Slowly, of course, because Pan Suk can only move in a hobble.
Soo Sun’s sitting with her hands wrapped around her knees, talking about going to the ocean when she was little and picking oysters. She looks to her left and then creeps over to a sleeping Dae Goo. She checks to make sure he’s asleep, pulls up his covers to tuck him in and then creeps off to bed. Wow, she is super cool. He can be a real butthead to her but she still is kind to him. The next morning, Dae Goo wakes up and stretches. He sits up and peers over in Soo Sun’s direction. She’s still asleep. He creeps over to look at her and squats at the door. Her phone rings, waking her, and Dae Goo dives away from the door, and then starts stretching like he was doing calisthenics or something like that. It’s Eung Do, letting them know that they got the accomplice, who squealed like a pig about Noh Jin Suk doing the stabbing. They’re supposed to stay there until Tae Il and Gook arrive in the evening. He nods.
Dae Goo’s phone rings. It’s the cloned phone. He listens in as Pan Suk tells Boots that he’s sorry he didn't keep his promise to meet the day before. He proposes lunch today. Boots tells him that he’ll seem him there at noon. Dang! This conversation, especially how he apologized with ‘bianada’ which is really familiar rather than something like ‘meianhamida’ or ‘jaesonghamida’ makes it totally sound like they know each other well and are on good terms. But something in me thinks that the familiarity in the apology was meant sarcastically. Hearing this, Dae Goo’s mind races. He needs to get back to Seoul now. He quickly tells Soo Sun that he’s taking the car to go to Seoul and runs off.
On the road, Dae Goo is driving like a madman. Reaching the ferry, he drives past Thug. He stops. Sophie’s Choice…. Dae Goo chooses the right thing. Dae Goo doesn’t take the ferry but takes off after the criminal. He drives up next to Thug’s car and orders him to pull over. Thug, of course, doesn’t comply and tries to drive away. Dae Goo mutters that Thug is dead; after all, he gave up a lot to catch the guy. Dae Goo is finally able to get in front of Thug’s car and force him to stop. Thug tries to run but Dae Goo tackles him. A fight ensues. Thug pulls a blurry thing (which we all know is a knife). But Dae Goo eventually is able to get Thug in a sleeper hold. As he handcuffs Thug, he reads him his rights. Then Dae Goo flops to the ground and pants. But he starts to smile. That same smile we saw the night before. What does that mean?
Dae Goo’s looking out over the water. He mutters to himself that he must be crazy. Soo Sun pulls out a first aid kit. Thug is now handcuffed in the backseat of the car. She tells Dae Goo to sit so she can tend to his wounds. He’s not paying attention so she makes him sit. She’s so excited about how they caught the suspect. Dae Goo asks her how it’s ‘we’ and Soo Sun replies that partners are one. She asks him why he didn’t go to Seoul. He tells her not to ask, since it’s making him crazy as it is. She suddenly decides that his rendezvous has to do with reuniting with his first love after ten years. He looks over at her – and I’m wondering if he’s thinking, ‘I already have. I’m sitting right next to her.’ She declares that he’s adorable and starts pinching his cheeks, which Dae Goo hates. And who *does* like that. He pries his cheeks free and pats them.
Soo Sun mutters that they should sterilize Dae Goo’s scratches first, but they only have ointment. Stoic Dae Goo is back as he declares that he doesn’t want it. She ignores him and starts to apply the ointment, blowing on his scrap when he complains that it hurts. He looks over at her, noticing her lips and her eyes, and doesn’t move. She’s oblivious to how she’s affecting him. He glances over at her almost sheepishly – like he really doesn’t know what’s happening, all that ushy-gushiness that’s happening on his inside. She put a bandage on his cheek and pats his hardily on the bag. He tries to shake off her hand, telling that it’s enough and calling her bread crumbs. Bread crumbs? As in those crumbs that cling to your clothes when you eat that you have to really swat at to get them to get off your clothes. He mutters about how she dares to take credit, but she just smiles and pokes his cheek. More than once. She says it’s to keep the bandage on and he complains that it hurts.
Pan Suk arrives at the station. Eung Do meets him and asks if he heard about how Soo Sun and Dae Goo caught Thug. Pan Suk nods, like he hates that it was Dae Goo that did it. He asks Eung Do if he was able to find out about Dae Goo but Eung Do hasn’t had time yet. He mentions how the kids told him that Dae Goo’s mother died when he was in eighth grade. This gets Pan Suk’s attention. Pan Suk wonders if Dae Goo’s strange behavior in the audio recording room almost seemed like a family member had been a victim of a revenge crime. Hmmm…. Eung Do also had that thought. Pan Suk mentions the case Dae Goo referred to: the Masan school nurse murder case where the mother was murdered but the son went missing. His body was never found. Eung Do remembers. Pan Suk mentions that the boy – Ji Yong – was in eighth grade when it happened. Eung Do asks if Pan Suk is saying that Kim Ji Yong is Eun Dae Goo. Pan Suk doesn’t answer but instead says that he’s going to the House of Happiness orphanage. He also tells Eung Do to praise the kids when they get back and treat them to a meal. So I guess Dae Goo isn’t going to be transferred after all. As Eung Do watches Pan Suk go he mutters that the trauma from the Masan murder case is still too much, but he understands.
Dae Goo and Soo Sun arrive with Thug. They’re greeted by cheers and applause. Gook is jumping up and down, he’s so excited. As Soo Sun greets Eung Do, Gook asks for a fist bump from Dae Goo and Dae Goo actually gives him one. Eung Do’s a proud papa again, beaming from ear to ear. Soo Sun asks about Pan Suk but Eung Do says that he’s out. Dae Goo’s face says that he’s wondering if it’s that meeting with Thug.
Later, Dae Goo calls S. He says that he lost Pan Suk again. Pan Suk agreed to meet Boots, but he couldn’t leave the island. He tells S that he’s worried he won't have another chance. And we see S’s eye as she says that he’ll have another chance. He waited patiently for eleven years. The camera pans down and – holy crap! S is the Chief! What? She thinks Pan Suk’s dirty? How is this possible? Is that why she recruited him? To bring him down? Then why was she so sympathetic and comforting when he was remembering the Masan case? How does this make sense? The creepy plot-thickens music is playing and now I’m wondering if this is going to be like in ‘Who Are You?’ where the beloved mentor turned out to be completely crooked! How does that even make sense? There’s been nothing to even hint at that before now! Holy crap!!!
I took a few moments to process this bit of news. I’m ready to continue now. I still don’t have any answers to my questions, but I really hope that she’s not dirty because I really like her. Plus the Gangnam PD can’t handle *another* corruption scandal.
So, Dae Goo is on the phone with Chief, aka S, and she tells him not to lose hope. There will be a brighter day. He can endure as long as he has hope. Dramatic music as she hangs up the phone and the camera pans back to show her huge office. What does this mean? What does her pensive face mean? Has she been playing Dae Goo this whole time? Arg! I can’t stand this!
Pan Suk has arrived at the orphanage. He finds the director and introduces himself. They go back to her office and she says that Dae Goo arrived in 2003. She pulls out her record book. Finding his file, she says that Dae Goo’s parents died in a bus accident in Cheunan. Pan Suk’s surprised. Didn't Dae Goo receive a new identity there? Director admits that some kids might do that, but Dae Goo is not one of them. Pan Suk asks for a childhood picture of Dae Goo. The director looks through her photo album and finds one. It’s *not* Dae Goo but some other boy. Of course, it isn’t labeled or anything. Pan Suk sighs, disappointed.
As Pan Suk leaves the orphanage, Director calls Dae Goo and tells him that Pan Suk was there. She tells him not to worry. She says that she showed Pan Suk a picture and he left looking disappointed. She also mentions that the guy that was there before, the teacher who escorted him said there was a burn scar under the man's ear. Dae Goo thanks her for her help.
Pan Suk reaches his car and wonders if he was over-reacting.
Next morning. Breakfast. Tae Il tells Gook that he’ll make omelets. Gook’s got a weird look on his face. Without looking at Tae Il, he tells Tae Il that he’s good. Tae Il’s surprised, since Gook likes them, but Gook slurps down the rest of his cereal with one glup, mutters that he’s done, and heads back into the bedroom. What the heck is going on? What did Tae Il tell him, since we know it wasn’t that he’s gay, what with his crush on Sa Kyung and all. Tae Il makes one for himself and Dae Goo, although Dae Goo asks for no mushrooms and lots of ham and cheese, which causes Tae Il to chuckle about Dae Goo’s childish palate.
Station. Soo Sun rolls her chair to bump into Dae Goo’s, so that he back is to his side. She leans over the chair and starts to ask him a question, but he shoves her back to her desk with his foot. This elicits a groan from Soo Sun. Not looking up from his computer, he orders her to speak from there. I laugh. She rolls her eyes and rolls back his direction. Still looking at his computer, he holds out his ruler, stopping her continued approach. He tells her to maintain a safe distance. She rolls her eyes again and rolls back to her desk, mutter about how cheesy he is. A very slight smile starts on Dae Goo’s face. He glances in Soo Sun’s direction – probably to watch her reaction – but he notices Pan Suk looking in his direction. No more smile. Pan Suk looks back at his computer monitor. Dae Goo keeps looking and Pan Suk sneaks a look in his direction again.
Pan Suk and Eung Do are out at a meat restaurant. Eung Do shows Pan Suk a wrap sheet and wonders if maybe that Dae Goo is the criminal’s (Eun Ji Ri) son. Eung Do declares that it totally fits, but Pan Suk tells him to eat. Eung Do sighs and tells Pan Suk that he’s obsessed with Dae Goo. Is it Ji Yong that he’s obsessed with? Pan Suk sighs and says that he would feel better if Ji Yong's body was found. Then he would know whether Ji Yong was dead or alive. And if Pan Suk was crooked, why wouldn’t he *know* what happened to Ji Yong? Why wouldn’t he still be wondering if the boy was dead? Eung Do says that he understands. And now, with the reveal of Chief as S, I’m feeling paranoid. I had a momentary thought that maybe Eung Do’s not such a faithful partner after all… But that goes against everything we’ve seen so far out of him.
Pan Suk tells Eung Do that he’s going to reopen the Masan school nurse murder case. That should get Dae Goo’s attention. Why would the cop partially responsible for Oma’s murder want to reopen the case? That makes no logistical sense whatsoever. Pan Suk declares that the only clue left is Park Seung Oh, who threatened the suspect, so he’s going to start looking for Park Seung Oh again. Eung Do nods and agrees to help out when he can. Eung Do tries to push his corny theory again and Pan Suk retorts that Dae Goo and Criminal look nothing alike besides their dark pupils. Eung Do’s phone chimes. It’s a text from Captain Toad – that’s how it’s listed in Eung Do’s phone, hee – ordering them to gather. I wonder what Toad wants, since they caught their suspect. Whatever it is, it's Urgent! since he used more than one exclamation point!
All the detectives congregate in the main room of the precinct. Toad is impatiently pacing while they gather. Sa Kyung enters and Tae Il smiles when he sees her. I said he liked her. He stops smiling when he sees the slight non-verbal communication/hello between Pan Suk and Sa Kyung. She asks her first what’s going on. I wish I knew what this guy's name is. Someone messed with Toad’s car again. Toad announces that it has to be an inside job. It's always *his* car. It can only mean that someone has ill feelings toward him. Toad declares that this is the lowest form of revenge in the world. He was going to let it go, but now it's his windshield. It’s the same as throwing a rock at his face! Not that I blame any of them, because Toad is a jerk. Toad screams that the culprit has until the end of the day to confess or he’ll review the CCTV footage and charge the perpetrator with a crime!
Toad leaves and the detectives mutter amongst themselves that the perpetrator should confess and save them all a headache. I kind of suspect that it's not a policeman at all, but someone else that Toad was rude to. Maybe it was Chief. Heh. Pan Suk gets a phone call. There's been a death at the Geunmo Apartments in unit 106, so the gang heads out. The dead guy is lying face up, eyes open, his head cracked open on the floor of the bathroom. He’s holding a phone. Dae Goo announces that the victim is Song Ki Deuk, 72 years old. He has two sons aged 38 and 34. He was currently living with his youngest son. It was the eldest son who called in the death when he dropped by and discovered the body. The youngest son was there at the time. Pan Suk clarifies that the victim was living with his youngest son. And it’s like their latest fight never happened. Pan Suk takes a closer look at the body. At one point he mentions that there’s a maggot inside the dead man’s nostrils. Soo Sun and Gook have my reaction: a grimace at that statement. Pan Suk concludes that he died at least 24 hours ago. And Pan Suk is a pro at forensics because he's the Lengendary Seo Pan Suk.
Their examination of the scene is interrupted by a scuffle between the two sons in the other room. One of which is a great character actor: Baek Seung Hyun. Weird haircut, though. The younger son is trying to strangle to older one. Tae Il and Soo Sun peel the man off. ESon accuses YSon of killing the Father. YSon says that ESon did it for the money. ESon retorts basically the same thing back, since YSon was a leech off of Father anyway. Eung Do starts to scold them for their shameful behavior which finally gets them to stop.
Everyone reconvenes at the station with Soo Sun and Dae Goo interviewing ESon. ESon explains that YSon is obsessed with gaming, so much that he’s lost touch with reality. Shot of YSon striking out at Father because Father tried to feel him and interrupted his game. ESon thinks that YSon did it, thinking he killed someone in one of his games.
Tae Il and Gook get to interview YSon, who is ranting about how Hyung killed Father. YSon likes to get worked up but Gook is good about calming him down. YSon says that the only reason Hyung came to see Father was insurance. Hyung brought Father a new phone. ESon is an insurance salesman, but Father wasn’t buying this time. And YSon found ESon squatting over the body.
Pan Suk leading the briefing for the team. He states that death was from trauma to the head and judging by the soap fragment on his foot and the fact that there were no signs Father’s body was moved, it’s most likely that his death was an accident. Tae Il enters and reports that there were no fractures found on the body. At least his skull should be cracked. Eung Do wonders if one of the sons really *did* do it and when Soo Sun is confused, Eung Do explains that when someone slips and falls, instinctively you throw out an arm to brace yourself, which typically causes a fracture (like to the arm) because of the weight. CSI moment with bone cracking noise. But... if someone is suddenly pushed, there are typically no arm fractures. Another CSI moment. Pan Suk tells everyone not to jump to conclusions until they all find out the exact cause and time of death. Pan Suk then delegates out investigative responsibilities.
Gook and Tae Il are at the apartment and Gook is still acting weird. Soo Sun is interviewing neighbors, who thought that Father lived alone. Dae Goo reviews the log from YSon’s computer and finds the guy didn’t leave his computer for 36 hours. ESon arrived at the apartment about 9 but didn’t call until 2pm. Soo Sun states that ESon took a nap on the sofa as soon as he came in and found Father after he woke up to use the bathroom. She hopes the autopsy results show that it was an accident.
Soo Sun is doing extra work late at night (2:30 am). She tests whether a person does actually try to brace themselves when they fall backward by doing an experiment in the station’s showers. In the morning, she brings her results to Pan Suk. As she shows him the footage, he tries really hard to stifle his amusement. She explains that Eung Do was right. When you fall, you unconsciously throw out an arm unless you're pushed suddenly, to instinctively protect your head. She asks whether this should be considered a murder then.
Tae Il, Gook and Eung Do return to the station and one of the female officers approach Tae Il with a gift of chocolates. Gook rolls his eyes in annoyance. Eung Do laughs because he can relate. Then he tries to tell Gook that his evidence report is too subjective. He passes Gook Tae Il’s report to learn from and Gook sighs again. What the heck is wrong with him? Gook tells Eung Do not to compare them, since Tae Il is on a different level. Eung Do can't even imagine how different. Gook leaves for the evidence storage room and Eung Do asks Tae Il if they had a fight? Tae Il says they haven’t. What the heck did you tell him? It’s not that you’re gay. That would have an entirely different weirdness if Gook wasn’t okay with it. In the evidence storage room, Gook’s mother calls him and he’s snippy with his mother, yelling at her for not feeding him enough so that he’s short. Tae Il comes in and asks why Gook’s being this way, because of Tae Il’s secret? Gook snaps that he hasn’t told anyone! And leaves, to Tae Il's frustration.
Meeting between Pan Suk and Boots. Pan Suk isn’t smiling. He says it’s been a long time and asks if Boots is back for good. Boots says that he is and he’s here to collect on a debt. Pan Suk asks what Boots wants. Boots responds that Pan Suk is impatient and then asks if Pan Suk found the kid from eleven years ago. No reaction out of Pan Suk but a cocky smile from Boots, kind of like a snake about to strike.
Dae Goo’s working at his desk. The phone jingles. Text from Soo Sun. She asks if he knows whether it’s raining. He asks if he should know. She replies that she’s just saying... and we see her huddled in her tent, wrapped in a blanket. He tells her that if she doesn’t have a point, she should stop bugging him because he’s busy. She calls him an inhumane jerk. He throws down his phone. And then he wonders if she texted him because it’s raining. Did she need something? Soo Sun mutters to herself how she got stuck with someone like that for a partner. Then she tells Dae Goo (not using the phone) that her tent is going to burst.
Soo Sun starts to wonder if she should go to a jjimjilbang for the night when someone calls her name. It’s Pan Suk. Aw, he’s really started to get attached to his kids… Soo Sun is shocked. He asks her what she’s doing out there in the rain. He asks why she’s not in night duty room but she says that it’s full. He tells her to come on.
Dae Goo appears with an umbrella (and one for her). He calls out to ‘Bread Crumbs’ and tells her to come out. But she’s already gone. He goes down and almost asks at the Women's Night Duty Room but then his pride gets the better of him, so he goes home annoyed that he went out in the rain for her. He goes back to his work and notices that Pan Suk ahs taken Soo Sun to his apartment. Dae Goo is not happy.
At the apartment, Pan Suk tells Soo Sun that she’s sleeping there tonight. He’s going elsewhere. Aw, he’s giving her his apartment to sleep at, so that there’s not even a question of hanky-panky, he’s leaving. Such a gentlemen and good boss. He points out where the bedding is and tells her to pull the door shut when she leaves. He's about to leave when her stomach gurgles, so then it’s ramen time. It’s amusing to watch Pan Suk try to maintain his distance when Soo Sun has no concept of personal space. She makes the ramen for them while Pan Suk sits on the couch and waits. And I just have to wonder what Dae Goo’s thinking right now. When the ramen is done, they dig in.
The doorbell rings. Pan Suk answers and it’s Sa Kyung. She’s brought some food, since it was raining. Pan Suk is completely awkward as he says, “I have a visitor.” And I am cracking up. He calls Soo Sun over and Sa Kyung is a bit surprised. Her face also says that she’s a little hurt to find another woman in his apartment. Pan Suk mutters that Soo Sun was living in a dorm when she was defrauded…. She is living in a tent on the station roof…. It was raining, so I was going to leave, but. she wanted to eat ramen.
Dae Goo is back in his apartment, upset. He chugs some water. The phone rings. Whoever called him says that the person he was searching for has been found. The detective that he hired, then? Dae Goo leaves his apartment and rushes over to where Park Seung Oh is. Pan Suk arrives at the location: a funeral home. Is the guy dead? And why is Pan Suk on his way there? Detective says that Creepy Guy was found dead a week ago after being homeless for a long time. Is this why Boots came back, to take care of unfinished business? Detective tells Dae Goo that it’s been a week since C.G.’s death. The cause was a fall. They’re still investigating whether it was an accident or someone pushed him. Dae Goo makes the identification that it is C.G., but also notes that he doesn’t have any scars behind his ears. So, not the attacker from back then and Dae Goo’s lost his only lead. We already knew that C.G. wasn't Boots, but Dae Goo didn't.
Pan Suk arrives to see Dae Goo leave the Morgue, stunned and discouraged. He’s shocked to see Dae Goo there. As Pan Suk stares at Dae Goo, Dae Goo stops and they stare at each other, with Dae Goo’s face reading ‘busted.’ Pan Suk steps forward and says, “You were alive. Kim Ji Yong.” And the episode ends.
Thoughts
Arg! They had to stop it there. Now I have to wait until the next episode to see if this means that Pan Suk has finally realized that Dae Goo is Ji Yong. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a fake out, but it does mean that we’re awfully close to the secret being revealed.
- Creepy Guy (Park Seung Oh) is dead. Did he die because Boots bumped him off? I suspect that this is the case, where Boots is cleaning up loose ends, ends that include Dae Goo. I think that this is the debt that he’s there to collect on. I can see a killer viewing being burned by acid as a debt that needed to be repaid. But who is Boots working for? Who was the man that Oma was going to testify against? And did that guy order C.G.’s death?
- Love that Sa Kyung and Pan Suk are on their way to reconciling. I hope by the end of the show they’re back together. I love that Pan Suk’s mistake was actually her being wrong, but his response was to apologize anyway. He really wants his wife back. Why else would someone grovel like that? And I wonder how Tae Il’s going to play into this mix? Did Sa Kyung have a fling with him? Is that how he knows her? Pan Suk’s not going to like that… Especially since he fell in love with his wife at first sight and is still in love with her.
- Development on the romance front: Dae Goo’s growing in his feelings for Soo Sun, while she’s oblivious.
- Soo Sun’s voice/stories allow Dae Goo to fall asleep without the TV on. That says something, that he takes comfort in her.
- He was gazing at her while she was sleeping, practically with a look of longing.
- The cute little scene where she bandaged his cheek, where he is really aware of her lips. Hee. I also love that his new nickname for her is not insulting. He’s no longer calling her Birdbrain but is now calling her Breadcrumbs. That’s so much better, kind of like Space Rock from ‘Protect the Boss.’
- Then later, the small smile after pushing her back to her desk. I love that he’s loving tormenting her.
- Going to fetch his par-te-nuh when it was raining and the jealous look on his face when he discovered that she was with Pan Suk
- Development in Dae Goo’s relationship with Pan Suk. Because Pan Suk is wondering what Dae Goo’s deal is, and suspects that he might be Ji Yong, he’s actually letting Dae Goo’s outbursts go, because he can understand where they’re coming from. They’re coming from a victim, not an insubordinate colleague. Even after their big altercation, because Dae Goo caught Thug, it’s like it never happen. Dae Goo didn’t even have to apologize.
- Speaking of that, I love that Dae Goo is discovering that he loves his job. Also, that finding his own revenge doesn’t take precedence over bringing justice to someone else. Which means that when all the mess with Pan Suk is out of the way, they can have a really great mentor-mentee, father-son relationship. Because they are totally alike in so many ways. And I can see them still butting heads in the future, but not so violently once all of Dae Goo’s anger is gone, but them immediately putting it aside when they crack whatever case they’re working on and working together perfectly in synch.
- And speaking of Pan Suk, what about his meeting with Boots? I really don’t know what to think of it. I still believe that Pan Suk isn’t dirty. I think that Boots is an ‘archenemy’ and this meeting was Pan Suk scoping him out. But still, how can Boots just wander around a police department undetected? It’s interesting that Boots put the bug in Pan Suk’s ear about Ji Yong, asking if he ever found the boy, like he’s just waiting for Dae Goo’s secret to get out. Or maybe it’s his sick way of telling Pan Suk that he’s going to get to Dae Goo first, since Pan Suk doesn’t even know if Ji Yong/Dae Goo is alive. And what does the ending of the episode mean? Is the secret finally out? Are we finally going to get some reconciliation?
- And when is Gook going to stop being weird around Tae Il? What is his deal, anyway? It’s not that Tae Il told him that he’s gay – because Tae Il’s not – but what other secret could it be? Tae Il was really satisfied when he revealed it and Gook is now really hyper-sensitive about how Tae Il’s better than he is. So much so that he’s snapping at his mother now. Hmmm…
- How could I forget to mention that S is the Chief?! WHAT?!! I’m replaying all of Dae Goo’s conversations with S and it just… Maybe it’s because I’m an optimist but I really don’t think Chief’s dirty and using Dae Goo for nefarious reasons. With that in mind, and thinking about their conversations, I’m wondering if Chief lured Pan Suk to her precinct to try and expose him as being dirty, since she rooted out the corruption in her own district. That would explain her acting sympathetic towards him as a fake out. But how does Dae Goo figure in? Why wouldn’t she tell Dae Goo about how sad Pan Suk acts whenever he thinks about Oma’s case? Does she think it’s just an act? And what was with her reaction to Congressman Moon Bae? Is Moon Bae the guy behind Oma’s murder? Why wouldn’t Pan Suk still have a beef with him, then? Why would she not like a guy that I think is totally crooked? So many questions. But Chief is S! I would never have thought that. Ever. My mind is still reeling. And hoping that Chief isn't going to turn out like Moon Shik in 'Who Are You?' - that was really disappointing. But part of me doesn't think that it will happen, because the writers seem more sophisticated than that.
